Description

One of America's best-loved comedians, Tim Conway (The Carol Burnett Show) is featured here in hilarious TV clips from the 1960s. Conway portrays the popular character, Dag Hereford. A self-professed expert on everything, Dag is really nothing more than a simple-minded buffoon. Whether he's a horseracing jockey, wine taster, prison warden or one of the country's leading race car drivers, Conway hams it up with stars of the day in rare, stand-up performances not seen in more than 40 years.

WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT. THERE ARE GREAT TV INTERPLAY SEQUENCES SOMEWHERE AVAILABLE, BUT THESE SCENES ARE WORSE THAN PEDESTRIAN. AND--- VERY FEW IN NUMBER. WHICH I REGARD AS LIFESAVING IF PROLONGED! I WAS SUCKED IN BY A TV AD WHICH DID FALSELY REPRESENT THIS DUD.

1 out of 5 stars Disappointed.......2007-05-17

I've seen Tim Conway for years and think he is the funniest person alive, but the scenes on this DVD were terrible.

2 out of 5 stars Too trite.......2007-05-12

I thought it was more of the funny stuff he did with Carol Burnett, but unfortunately it was not that funny.

I got this for my 2 1/2 yr old son. He loves Mickey Mouse and the story of the 3 little pigs. He watches it all the time! I love seeing him enjoy cartoons that I liked when I was young. A great addition to any old cartoon collection!

5 out of 5 stars Great!.......2005-08-25

I bought this for my 3yr old twins, and from the first showing, I kept hearing giggling and laughing as they watched the cartoons. My girls already are familiar with some fairy tales, so they really loved "The Three Little Pigs" and "The Pied Piper". I highly recommend this DVD and think it is a great buy for parents with young children.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Totally Enjoyable!.......2007-04-14

The older Disney cartoons are still the best. Many have not been seen in years and are now available. I relish every moment watching this DVD. Ferdinand The Bull has always been a favorite. Now I have it forever.

5 out of 5 stars Disney's Timeless Tales, Vol. 2.......2007-02-15

Reminded me of old times. Great DVD to have for the children.

3 out of 5 stars Unrestored RE-release of shorts from the TIN releases........2005-08-18

***** Five Stars for the cartoons themselves! I give the low *** three start rating because WE ALREADY HAVE THEM ON DVD!

This collection is a cheaply put-together, un restored, re-release of cartoons from the DISNEY TREASURES TINS! THESE ARE NOT FROM THE SAME MASTERS! So why buy something you already have?

1) THE UGLY DUCKLING (1939) also on the "Disney Treasures: Silly Symphonies" DVD release.

2) COUNTRY COUSIN (1936) also on the "Disney Treasures: Silly Symphonies" DVD release.

3) FERDINAND THE BULL (1938) also on the "Disney Treasures: Rarities" DVD release.

4) WIND IN THE WILLOWS (1949) segement from the feature Icabod & Mr. Toad. Amazon sells the entire feature for just $15.99

With the Disney Treasures DVD releases on limited availability, I guess Disney hopes those who missed out will buy these 4-cartoon discs. The low price is misleading, when you break it down to individual cartoon cost this release is EXPENSIVE!

And no extras!

5 out of 5 stars Cartoons on Disney's Timeless Tales, Volume Two.......2005-07-31

This DVD includes The Country Cousin (1936), Ferdinand the Bull (1938), The Ugly Duckling (1939) and The Wind in The Willows (1949). The Wind in The Willows was the first of the two animated sequences that are formed together to make The Adventures Of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949).

Amazon.com essential video

Picture this: a television screen filled with an image of a mature woman's hand holding the hand of an adolescent girl. Then those hands--and their owners, Barbra Streisand and 15-year-old look-alike and singing sensation Lauren Frost--ascend a flight of stairs that leads (suggestively, at least) to destiny itself. A third of the way up, Barbra releases her surrogate child-self... and watches as the latter climbs the rest of the way, disappearing into her future of possibilities.

Wow. Who else but Streisand could still pull off such an audacious moment of sentimental psychodrama, the way that only a true star could? Yet nestled within the autobiographical meringue of the legendary singer's Millennium's-End concert, performed at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas on December 31, 1999, that scene--and many other such self-referential moments reliving the sundry chapters of Streisand's life and career--is quite moving in its laid-bare honesty. A fuller experience than listening to the double CD of the concert, this video record of a magical night (does anyone remember our collective Y2K anxieties that New Year's Eve?) provides the most bang for the buck when it comes to reliving all those special scenes: surprise guest appearances (Barry Gibb, Bryan Adams, Neil Diamond, and Streisand's son, Jason Gould), duets with Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra (via video footage, of course), an appearance by dance master Savion Glover as Brother Time, a humorous bit with Shirley MacLaine, and several collaborations with Frost. If Timeless: Live from the MGM Grand was indeed, as Streisand claimed, the first step of a short farewell tour that ended in early 2000, it was the perfect way to exit the stage forever. --Tom Keogh

i first saw this concert at madison square garden on september 27 th 2000 the first night of one of barbra streisand's farwell concerts in new york. it was great seeing barbra live but i wasn't sitting in the good seats which everyone calls the blood nosed seats. i first saw the las vegas concert on valentines day of 2001 but they cut out the scene when barbra was talking to shirley mclaine but i loved it anyway bacause barbra wasn't the size of an ant this time. then i coupple of years laiter i bought it on dvd and enjoyed it even more. barbra has been my idol since i was 5 years old.

5 out of 5 stars Barbra's timeless concert .......2006-03-11

It is hard to confuse Barbra Streisand's voice with someone else's. Whatever song style she sings - you can always recognize her and this is a sign of a gifted singer. Barbra Streisand is very artistic and natural on the stage, acting as if she is living it. Very good concert.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Barbra.......2004-05-01

Barbra Streisand is my favorite actress/singer. In this "Timeless" DVD, it's as if I've met her personally! In the concert itself, she have shown some of the things that she passed through her life. Starting with the recording studio, a 15-year old Barbra was played by Lauren Frost. She even sang songs from the Broadway, such as Miss Marmelstein, Don't Rain on My Parade, and Second Hand Rose. Also her Academy-award winner song, "Evergreen". In the ActII, she had a video of the highlights in her career..."The Main Event/Fight", "People" and "Send in the Clowns". Watch this concert...and you'll experience the ABSOLUTE BARBRA ever...!

Disney has immortalized some of the world's most famous fairy tales in its animated productions. Between the mid-1930's and the mid-1950's, Disney embraced and mastered a new sound technology that allowed the synchronization of music and animated action and produced a vast array of music-driven productions that included the "Silly Symphony" cartoon shorts. This collection is comprised of six animated tales, both musical and non-musical, produced in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s that range from 7-1/2 minutes to 21-minutes in length and explore themes like cooperation, overconfidence, and greed. The Academy Award nominated 1953 short "Casey at the Bat" is a musical recitation of the tale of a baseball player whose overconfidence proves his downfall. The short "Morris the Midget Moose" (1950) shows how even the smallest of creatures can do great things when they collaborate with others. Oscar-nominated "Ben and Me" (1953) is the longest production at 21-minutes and tells the fanciful tale of a small country mouse who claims to be the inspirational force behind many of Ben Franklin's greatest inventions. The final three programs are Silly Symphony cartoon shorts that exhibit Disney's masterful intertwining of music and action. "The Golden Touch" (1953) spins a tale of the great King Midas felled by greed, "The Wise Little Hen" (1934) espouses the value of cooperation, and "Little Hiawatha" (1937) follows a young hunter whose compassion for animals curtails his hunting successes, but eventually saves his own life. Each of these timeless tales features rich animation, preserves an important piece of American folklore, and represents a historical stage of animation. (Ages 2 to 10) --Tami Horiuchi

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Sense of Fun.......2007-01-18

These short videos are fun. They do not have the "in your face" humor or action characteristic of today's entertainment. They are made for kids and do not have violent, often bullying or hurtful, themes. They can be good starters for adult-kid conversations about feelings, friends, etc. They encourage kids to be kids.

5 out of 5 stars Fun for everyone.......2006-02-22

Disney's short subjects are the best. No CGI here; just pure and simple animation with great story telling. This is one not to miss.

1 out of 5 stars Timeless because they keep getting re-issued on DVD!.......2006-01-06

This story tells of the positive consequences of a good deed. A little Indian boy wants to be a mighty hunter and goes out in the forest to prove it. But he cannot kill a bunny that crosses his path, an act which endears him to the woodland creatures who later rescue him from a grizzly bear.

THE WISE LITTLE HEN (1934 repeat from the Donald Duck Vol #1 DVD Tin)
This historic animated short features the very first appearance of Donald Duck! When a mother hen needs help planting corn and harvesting it, Donald and his friend Peter Pig decide they don't want to work hard. THE GOLDEN TOUCH (1935 repeat from the Silly Symphonies DVD Tin)
Directed by Walt Disney himself, this story tells about the consequences of greed. But Midas finds out that he can longer eat, because when he touches his food, it turns to gold. His lesson learned, Midas gives up his golden touch and all his treasures, in exchange for a hamburger.

Morris meets another outcast moose, Balsam, who is huge but has tiny antlers, and the two moose team up. With Morris on Balsam's back, Morris uses his antlers and Balsam uses his height to beat the leader of the herd.

BEN AND ME (1953 repeat from the Disney Rarities DVD Tin)
This is a tale of achieving great things, no matter how you start out. Amos, a poor little church mouse, comes to live with Benjamin Franklin. Through Amos's suggestions, the Franklin stove and bifocals are invented, and the opening words of the Declaration of Independence are provided.

4 out of 5 stars it is a worthy golf dvd.......2005-07-07

My general feeling after watching the content of this dvd was of satisfaction, i got my money's worth for what this dvd left me with.

The journey you take trough the HISTORY OF GOLF is well documented and carefully "chosen" so no big "event" is missing.

The only downpoint of this dvd (and the reason i do not give it the 5 stars) is that there is not a quality MENU to work with, no diferent languages, audio options or subtitles.

This dvd has (as a "plus") a "section" (that is the only other choise you have at the menu) where you get "instruction" as how to swing with what they call : "follow trough" , i think this material could be of some use.

    I recomend this dvd.

      • What began as a bitter dispute over union and States' Rights, ended as a struggle over the meaning of freedom in America. It saw the end of slavery.
      • It inspired men who had never strayed far from their own front doors to become soldiers in great armies, and to fight in epic battles hundreds of miles from home.
      • It was the first modern war and the costliest, yielding at least 600,000 casualties and unprecedented domestic suffering, both spiritually and physically.

      3 out of 5 stars It's OK.......2007-05-12

This DVD is OK but the thing I don't like is the beginning of it cannot be skipped and all it is an advertisement for a old war movie. So, my daughter has to watch that everytime before she gets to the scene selection.

      4 out of 5 stars Timeless Cartoons.......2006-12-21

I bought this DVD for "Fraidy Cat (aka, "The Animals Squeak")" featuring the characters of Porky Pig and "Kansas City Kitty." On another collection (Cartoon Classics, Vol. 2 - I believe), the sound track is off five seconds on the entire DVD - just terrible!! On the "Timeless Cartoons" DVD, the sound track is right on time - Four stars (and the price is right, too!!)

2 out of 5 stars Save Your Money.......2006-02-15

I purchased this DVD as well as the Cartoon Classics as a gift. I was a bit embarrassed by the quality. It looks like it was restored by an amateur. You can see the image of a rectangle around the characters in some of the cartoon clips. I assume this is due to the restoration process. Also, I don't like how Starling Films incorporates their own titles into each cartoon. It doesn't make it very classic. I am now looking to purchase the Looney Tunes Collection DVD. The only thing that I do enjoy about this DVD is the nostalgia effect. It brings back fond memories of Saturday mornings watching cartoons.

5 out of 5 stars Great Family Fun.......2005-12-24

We have three kids: 9, 5 and 3. To my great surprise, the 9 year old enjoys this DVD as much as the 3 year old. One of the few DVDs they sit and watch together. It is great to hear them laugh, and I have as much fun watching them watching the DVD as they do watching the cartoons!

1 out of 5 stars Great Cartoons...But BAD Quality. Starling Films Is WACK!!.......2005-11-16

Well, at first i was really excited to watch these cartoons. When i got home i put the dvd in. The minute i put it...BOOM! I realize this dvd wasn't as good as i thought.

2 Things you people have to know about this cartoons dvd:

      1. For all you Woody Woodpecker fans, this DVD has ONLY ONE(1) Woody Woodpecker cartoon and TEN(10) Popeye Cartoons. My sister loves Woody Woodpecker and she was thrilled to watch this dvd, but now since there's only ONE(1) Woody Woodpecker cartoon she's really DISAPPOINTED. (The title for this dvd should be "Popeye's Cartoons Collection")

      2. The cartoons quality is horrible. Remastered?? Yeah in your dreams. I can't believe the first reviewer stated "Great Quality". C'mon Starling Films, nowadays technology it's advance. I wouldn't had mind paying $2-$5 dollars more for this dvd if the quality was better.

Overall, honestly i don't recommend this dvd. Save your money people. Specially now that the second reviewer stated "All of the 6 Warner cartoons on this disk have been re-titled by the vendor, and sometimes the copyright on the bullseye doesn't belong with the cartoon" Ha, if i knew this before i wouldn't waste my money on this dvd.
