Featuring three enjoyably "awful" movies from 1958-59, Cult Camp Classics, Vol. 1: Sci-Fi Thrillers turns nuclear radiation into cause for celebration, especially if you enjoy movies with extra cheese. With the Cold War in full swing and society's worries blamed on the threat of nuclear annihilation, sci-fi buffs (like future filmmakers Steven Spielberg, Joe Dante, and John Landis) could see a new monster movie almost every week. Many of them came from Allied Artists, the low-budget B-movie production company (formerly Monogram) that rose from the ghetto of "poverty row" distribution to produce countless exploitation thrillers between 1946 and 1979. The '50s saw the rise of nuclear monster thrillers, and Allied popularized the trend with its own menagerie of giant, irradiated creatures. The key to Allied's success was its crowd-pleasing combination of exploitable ingredients, and what better way to combine sci-fi, sex, and horror than to unleash a towering babe with an attitude problem? That's exactly what Allied did with Attack of the 50-Foot Woman, a now-classic campfest in which a spurned wife (Allison Hayes) is irradiated by a glowing alien space-ball, grows to a height of (you guessed it), and exacts revenge upon her cheating husband (William Hudson). A year before she bared her shapely backside as Playboy's Playmate of the Month for July 1959, Yvette Vickers costars as Hudson's scheming mistress, giving the film an extra boost of sex appeal. With bargain-priced effects including a giant floppy-fingered hand, hilarious process shots, and cheesy models destroyed by the world's biggest bitch (for whom it is still possible to feel some sympathetic compassion), the movie's not as good as its celebrated poster (which now adorns movie-geek T-shirts around the world), but it's still a lot of fun.
The Giant Behemoth was director Eugene Lourie's obvious attempt to capitalize on his 1953 hit The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, starring a gigantic paleosaurus rising from the Atlantic with a bad case of atomic radiation. London is the monster's eventual stomping ground, but the lumbering lizard is camera-shy for nearly an hour; you can imagine Beaver Cleaver and his pals groaning through seemingly endless scenes of talky exposition, anxiously awaiting the climactic stop-motion creature effects supervised by the legendary Willis (King Kong) O'Brien. Scoring much higher on the camp-o-meter, and far more entertaining, is the cult classic Queen of Outer Space, which borrows props and costumes from Forbidden Planet, Flight to Mars and World Without End for its outrageously kitschy plot about manly astronauts who crash-land on Venus and discover an underground society of mini-skirted space-babes. Unfortunately the disfigured Venusian queen (Laurie Mitchell) is a man-hater supreme, so the spectacularly costumed Zsa Zsa Gabor (as a Venusian scientist, no less) leads a revolution against her. With a screenplay by Twilight Zone veteran Charles Beaumont and a story credited (almost incredibly) to legendary playwright/screenwriter Ben Hecht (who surely never suspected his idea would eventually yield this movie), Queen of Outer Space is exactly what you'd expect it to be: So bad it's good, and more than worthy of inclusion in this irresistibly priced triple-feature set. --Jeff Shannon
On the DVDs
Three feature-length commentaries accompany the sci-fi thrillers in Cult Camp Classics, Vol. 1. Two of the commentaries are hosted by Tom Weaver, a noted authority on sci-fi and horror films whose historical acumen is more casual than academic: While sharing the commentary on Queen of Outer Space with the film's titular star Laurie Mitchell (who became a mainstay at fan conventions at Weaver's invitation), Weaver fails to explain how the production came to use props and costumes from the classic Forbidden Planet, and that's a glaring oversight. He compensates as an amiable interviewer with the equally good-natured Mitchell, and it's a treat to hear them enthusiastically reading unfilmed scenes from the film's original screenplay. For the commentary on Attack of the 50-Foot Woman, Weaver is joined by the film's comely costar Yvette Vickers (another regular at sci-fi conventions), and their combined anecdotes provide an adequate oral history of this camp-classic production. Star Wars veterans and special-effects masters Dennis Muren and Phil Tippett provide the loose-and-lazy commentary on The Giant Behemoth, which consists mostly of Muren making sarcastic jokes about the film's glacial pacing. It's hardly the authoritative commentary that some fans might've hoped for, but Muren and Tippett are well-versed in special-effects history (Muren even owns the original stop-motion Behemoth creature model), and they share an infectious enthusiasm for the films that inspired them to excel in their profession. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
Extremely Fun Boxset.......2007-06-30
If you like 50's sci-fi, this set is a must have. Nice widescreen, anamorphic prints of all 3 films--50 Foot Woman and Giant Behemoth are b& w, Queen of Outer Space is in glorious Cinemascope color!
The Giant Behemoth is another solid 50's stop-motion effect giant monster movie, in the vein of Beast from 20,0000 Fathoms, The Black Scorpion and others. Very enjoyable.
Attack of the 50 Foot Woman is actually not as campily bad as it's usually hyped. The special effects are occasionally lackluster and do add a comedy element, but the acting, dialogue, cinematography and score are all decent. Pretty standard, fun 50's sci-fi.
Queen of Outer Space--now this is the camp classic! From this movie, I learned that the only women who don't welcome overt sexual harassment from leering, agressive men are the ones who are too hideously disfigured to be the object of said advances! Imagine Forbidden Planet, with all the cool special effects and engaging plot themes removed and replaced with lots of scantily-clad alien beauties and 50's era "battle of the sexes" dialogue--on the planet Venus, of course! Botchino! Botchino!
All in all, a very fun set for fans of 50's sci-fi.
Outstanding treatment of 3 sci-fi camp classics.......2007-06-27
This three-pack is an interesting collection of B features that are typical of what was churned out pretty regularly by some of the lesser studios that were capitalizing on the sci-fi films that were popular during the 1950's. These B pictures often came out campy, and these three are a best-of-breed collection that make for great fun. Like Dr. Johnny Fever whose DJ career took a plunge after he said the word "booger" on the air until he eventually landed at low-rent WKRP, you have to wonder how some of the talent involved in these productions wound up in this position. You've got bad directors gone worse, special effects artists going the way of Ed Wood, and girls gone wild - all the makings of some great cheesy fun. What is so great about this pack is that Warner Home Video cleaned up the video and audio on these films quite nicely, and even put commentary tracks on these films. Not even James Cagney merited a commentary track in his Signature Collection! The films and their features are as follows:
Attack of the 50 Foot Woman (1958)
A great case of camp and sci-fi meeting a love triangle. Poor little rich girl Nancy Archer has been drinking heavily since she found out her husband has been cheating on her, and it has recently caused her to do a stretch in an asylum - there was no such thing as substance abuse clinics back then. When Nancy drives off angrily into the desert one night she has an encounter with a very big alien who infects her with his largesse. Now we have a very big girl with one bad attitude on our hands intent on taking the nearby town apart to find her husband. I used to see this one on the UHF channels late at night back in the early 70's when I was babysitting. Great fun.
DVD Special Features:
Commentary by Yvette Vickers and film historian Tom Weaver
Subtitles: English & French (feature film only)
The Giant Behemoth (1958)
Here's another movie where metabolism has been altered, this time by science and radioactive fallout. This was one of the later giant creature movies of the 1950's, and it hasn't been as fondly remembered as its forerunner "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms", but it is still great fun. This time a giant brachiosaurus, greatly enlarged due to improperly dumped radioactive material, emerges from the sea and is intent on destroying London. The poverty row budget shows in this one in spite of the presence of some skilled technicians that had worked on King Kong and The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms. Wires are often clearly visible, as is footage of one car being destroyed by the giant beast being used repeatedly in the movie as though they are different events.
DVD Special Features:
Commentary by veteran special effects creators Dennis Muren and Phil Tippett (The Academy Award winning visual effects and dinosaur supervisors of "Jurassic Park" provide insight into this ground-breaking stop-motion monster.)
Theatrical trailer
Subtitles: English & French (Feature Film Only)
Queen of Outer Space (1958)
This campy outer space movie has a captain and his crew landing on a planet where men are not allowed. However, not all of the residents of the planet are happy about this edict. Thus it comes down to the man-hating queen versus the planet's leading scientist (Zsa Zsa Gabor). To add to the suspense, like Marvin Martian, Queen Yllana wants to blow up the earth. Everyone in this film seems to know they are starring in a campy production and they are just having fun with it. This movie actually borrowed its sets, costumes, and special effects from "Flight To Mars", "Forbidden Planet", and "World Without End", and has a screenplay by the renowned Ben Hecht of all people.

Good to see these films again.......2007-06-26
Prints for these films look fine, and it's good to see such modest movies cleaned up and given the DVD treatment, though some purists will question the minor letterboxing on "50 ft. Woman" and "Behemoth". Yvette Vickers commentary on "50 ft. Woman" is a treat. She remembers the film well and speaks fondly of it and of her time spent making the movie. Be aware though: the advertisements say the trailer for "Woman" is on the DVD, but for some reason it isn't. Strange: probably an oversight. "Behemoth" looks sharp and clear, but Dennis Muren and Phil Tippet's commentary does a great disservice. They clearly don't respect the film at all, and spend much of their time insulting it, even mocking it, before wrapping up with "well, I guess now we know why they never made a sequel to this movie." Wish they'd had some affection for the film, or had at least familiarized themselves with it before offering such caustic feedback. By the ninth or tenth time they say, "Ray Harryhausen would have done this SO MUCH better" the novelty wears thin, and one wonders what Harryhausen himself might have said about the movie. "Queen of Outer Space" has the novelty of color, and the surprising pedigree of a Ben Hecht screen story. Kudos to Warner Bros. for putting these films out, and yes, the "Behemoth" disc has the often cut ferryboat scene, for those who are interested. Too bad about the shoddy "Behemoth" commentary, but fans should enjoy thoroughly these long-awaited B movies.
These are not real movies............2007-06-23
real Movies have great casting and scripts to work with. None of these B-movies have any of that. They are not even scary. They are just so badly made and it;s no wonder that few if any of these actors ever found work again.
What a bargain!.......2007-06-08
If you enjoy 1950s campy B movies, then I don't see you going wrong here with this first set. For details just search each of the movie titles and you see each movie alone runs almost as much as this set and you will see from the reviews they are all kind of legends as far as the genre goes. They actually are some of the best of that period of B movies. I know I like all three of these in this set. I can say I compare the "50 ft Woman" to the "War of the Colossal Beast" and "The Giant Behemoth" to "Beast from 20,000 Fathoms". The last one with Zsa Zsa Gabor on the planet of women is not to be missed if nothing more than to see how far we had plunged into skimpily clad women with bad lines in B class SciFi moviedom. Hmmm does B stand for bad? Well even if it does these movies are entertaining for most fans of science fiction.
The first two movies in the set are black and white movies but they look like they have been gone over and cleaned up. "Queen of Outer Space" is in color and very clear and sharp. I got my set a few days ago so my wife and I watched the first two in the set a couple nights ago and the third last night. All the DVDs are sharp and clear. Each had a commentary available by someone in the movie. "Does anyone know if the costumes, sets, and music for "Queen of Outer Space" was done by people that later worked on "Star Trek"? The mens uniforms and radios definitely looked like they came from the "Forbidden Planet" wardrobe. I'm definitely glad I got this set.

Bad DVD quality.......2007-06-11
I ordered this item simply because I wanted the movie on DVD (I already have it on VHS). This had got to be the absolutely worst quality I have ever seen on a DVD. If you are looking for a copy of Boggy Creek on disc, do NOT order this one. Hunt for an older version (as in the original DVD issue). This particular copy is a waste of money.
Not DVD Quality.......2007-02-26
I purchased this to find out what was in the missing 3 minutes of another version I have (87 vs 90 minutes). While this DVD included the missing footage, the quality was poor for a DVD. It also had a different cover than what was pictured on the web site.
THE TRUTH...THE LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK.......2007-02-23
YES YES I KNOW THE MOVIE WAS CHEAPLY MADE...BUT DONT YOU SEE IT ALL FITS...IT MAKES ONE NICE PACKAGE...ALL IN ALL VERY MUCH WORTH THE TIME AND MONEY TO BE ABLE TO SIT DOWN LATE IN THE EVENING WITH YOUR MIND OPENED WIDE READY TO ABSORB ALL YOU CAN ABOUT THIS VERY REALISTIC CREATURE FEATURE...SO...MY VOTE IS A SOLID THUMBS UP FOR THE LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK...A SIMPLE BUT AT THE SAME TIME A VERY COMPLEX TREAT FOR THE MIND...SO DROP THE DIME ON THIS ONE...YOU WONT BE SORRY...ENJOY...GOD BLESS TEXAS.
THE LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK.......2007-02-14
SLOW DOWN AND WATCH THIS ONE LATE IN THE EVENING.
IT SEEMS SO REAL. A REAL POSSIBILITY. THE VIDEO QUALITY COULD BE BETTER. A LOT OF THE MOVIE DEPENDS ON YOUR OWN EXPERIENCES AND IMAGINATION.
A movie you want to watch over and over.......2007-02-14
I watched the Movie Legend of Boggy Creek years ago when
it first came out and liked it then and I like it now.
The music is catchie and some of the places looked spooky.
I passed through Texarkana years ago and I talked to one
person at a gas station and he said "Awa shocks that story
was just a hoax" but others said differently. You have to
make your own mind up if you think it is a hoax.
The movie is old therefore it is not the best quality but
I will still watcher it from time to time. I know it by heart.

Definitive Hitch...Three From The 30's.......2007-02-10
Three from Hitch's early British works that are filled with great actors and all those special touches that just say Hitch.
From 1936..."The Secret Agent". You'll find Hitch's unique sense of humor well integrated with the suspense and his definitive style, in this terrific film about espionage at the onset of WWI. A reluctant spy is recruited to kill an enemy spy. He is given a false name and a fake wife to keep up appearances. He goes after the target, but does he have the right man? Could there be another who is the real culprit? And what a cast.. John Gielgud stars with Madeline Carroll,Robert Young and Peter Lorre(fabulous as always) as his very strange accomplice.Other notables to look for include Lilli Palmer and Michael Redgrave.
Where's Hitch.....alas, there seems to be no appearance by Sir Alfred here...4 stars
From 1934.."The Man Who Knew Too Much"(He remade this one in 1956). A great thriller about a carefree family on a winter holiday, who unwittingly become involved in an assassination plot. The Lawrences are having a wonderful time, but when their dear friend is shot, he reveals to them a plot to assassinate an important statesman before he dies. The would be killers kidnap the young daughter of the family in order to ensure their silence.Working with the police is out of the question and the Lawrences must take matters into their own hands as they try to rescue their daughter and stop the murder, which is to take place at the glorious Albert Hall.
Hitch keeps the suspense going through out with an edge of your seat climatic scene. Watch for one of his famous trademark staircase scenes in this early film. The film stars Leslie Banks and Edna Best as the Lawrences, and Peter Lorre at his most menacing!
Where's Hitch: Sorry Hitch watchers, again there doesn't seem to be any appearance by the master...5 stars
"The Lady Vanishes"(1938)
Of all Hitch's early British made films(mostly made during the late 1920's and 1930's), "The Lady Vanishes" is by far the most captivating one for me. A train trip is the setting for this mystery. A woman's traveling companion has disappeared. Where could she be? The train is only so big. She tries desperately to find her friend, but is alone in her quest. No one seems to believe that she even had a companion to start with. All seem to have their own mysterious reasons for denying her any help. Finally one man is convinced to help, and together they try to solve this possible crime.
There are lots of tense sequences to keep you in suspense, and your heart pounding. Hitch mixes up the thrills with his marvelous sense of humor and his wonderful trademark style. Wonderful performances by the likes of Dame Mae Whitty, Margaret Lockwood and Michael Redgrave add to the enjoyment of this one.
Looking for Hitch:....You must be patient. Check Victoria Station almost at the end of the film...5 stars
Enjoy.....Laurie
I didn't like them .......2005-05-02
I love Alfred Hitchcock movies but I didn't like these three. But that's just me. Other people might really like them. They are very old & slow.
Budget Release Meets/Exceeds Expectations.......2004-05-05
First the usual warnings: caveat emptor, you get what you pay for, etc. etc. etc., yadda yadda yadda, blah blah blah. With that out of the way, let me say that getting these three early Hitchcock films at such a low price is an extremely good deal. Sure they're blurry in parts and there are occasional picture/sound glitches, but nothing really interferes with either the storytelling or the suspense, which is really why you're watching them in the first place.
Let me add that the four-star rating is for the DVD as a whole. None of the films are presented at four-star quality (The Lady Vanishes is maybe three-and-a-half), but the fact that you get three movies instead of one or two bumps the score from average to slightly-above.
The Man Who Knew Too Much is the oldest of the three movies and its print and sound quality are the most deteriorated. Nevertheless, the symphony scene and the final gunfight retain their suspensefulness. The movie holds its own against the 1956 remake; Leslie Banks is no Jimmy Stewart, but at least Edna Best doesn't sing.
Secret Agent features a young John Gielgud, only a year or two out of short pants, I'm sure. Peter Lorre steals the show here, however, as an assassin or curious nationality. Of the three, I felt this was the least Hitchcockian in comparison with his later - and greater - work. It works on a psychological level, like his very-early Blackmail, rather than building the suspense of the other two films on this DVD or terror of Psycho or The Birds. The "self-translating" cypher notes are a nice effect; the spinning bowls and train crash are nice attempts at special effects that fall a little short of the mark.
The Lady Vanishes is the most recent of these films, and sports the best sound and picture. It also has some of the most recognizable Hitchcockian touches. The poisoned brandies framed in the extreme foreground, the hero(ine) whose sanity is in doubt, etc. It's also the most comedic throughout (although Lorre and Robert Young play their roles for laughs in Secret Agent, too).
If you want pristine remastered prints of these films, look elsewhere and expect to pay significantly more than a few dollars per movie. If you can "make do" with versions that look 65-70 years old, and want to experience Hitchcock early in his career, give this DVD a spin. If it turns out not to be to your liking, at least you haven't paid a lot to find that out. Odds are you'll find you get a lot for the price (a brief biography of Hitchcock appears on the disc, trivia factoids appear on the packaging), and won't experience buyer's remorse or feel ripped off by your purchase.

Absolution for Burton!.......2007-05-08
I saw this film 20 or so years ago on VHS. Then as now, this stands as a really good suspence film. The writing and characters are wonderfully wrought through a chilling story of revenge and deciept in the pulpit. One of Richard Burton's most hidden and fine performances in the later of his career, this movie will keep you watching. You can read the plot synopsis yourself, but the film it'self is definately worth the pennies you can purchase it for. Whether a Burton fan or simply a mystery/suspense buff, you can't go wrong here. Sit back and enjoy.
Wow! Intriguing...........2006-05-05
Burton does a great job in this movie, and the film really keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. It is very intense, and there are a lot of surprises. This is categorized as a psychological thriller--in reality it is perhaps a "psychotic" thriller!
There is a slight lack of credibility at the end, but this is definitely worth the watch!
Last Rites..........2006-04-30
Richard Burton is a priest at a catholic school for boys. One day during latin class he tells the boys about the sanctity of confession, and that the priest who hears it is bound to not reveal the confession to anyone. This is true even if the confessor has committed murder. Well, this puts ideas into the heads of some of the lads, who set out to use this information against the priest himself. False confessions are made, as well as a confession of murder! Burton's character is sent into turmoil trying to get to the bottom of things. He's made a fool of and also gets drawn into a dark plot to destroy him. ABSOLUTION has many twists and creepy moments. I was surprised at how good it turned out to be. I was expecting some dumb religious movie! Track this one down...

Probably more a womens' film.......2007-01-12
Very few films can hold your attention when it has only 2 chracters for almost the entire film. This film is haunting, worring and sexy all at the same time. The location is fabulous and the acting is superb.
tr'es franc,ais.......2006-03-03
A reclusive woman keeps a man who drifts ashore under the idea that they are on an unknown island. This is potentially deep. It touches upon ideas that woman needs man, or vice versa, heterosexually speaking. It hints that even misanthropes need companionship sometimes. Still, the movie also felt like "Misery" repeated. I hated watching James Spader's character be duped. This movie was long and had few sounds and dialogue. It seemed artsy and noir, in the French kind of way. This is an arthouse film, certainly not meant for the masses. I actually missed out on some of the dialogue because the lead actress' accent was so thick. This DVD really needed captions. This could be a deep meditation on the human condition, but it's still a bit of a yawner.

Memorable film... excellent performances.......2007-03-09
This is a must have! I don't buy a lot of movies, but this is one I had to buy, I remembered watching it randomly 2 years ago and went on a quest to find it on DVD. I'm glad I did. It's funny but deep as well. One of the most interesting stories I've seen. While I would stop short of calling it a Christian movie, it has a great moral message to it. Buy it and you won't be disappointed. Young people like me will relate to the kids while older heads can relate to Martin Landau's character. The DVD includes a really good interview with Landau as well. I wanted it in my collection to entertain my friends with something unexpected.
joyriders.......2007-03-08

Friendship and Redemption.......2006-01-10
A moving drama about depressed and hopeless Gordon Trout (Landau in an outstanding performance) who is about to end it all. Fate intervenes in the form of 3 homeless teenagers who need a ride home from the mall, where Gordon has just purchased a firearm in preparation for his suicide attempt. Without a place to spend the night, the teens hitch a ride with Landau "Fish Man" who is less suspicious than annoyed by the teens. By the time Gordon catches on to the teens' flimsy plan to head south, he's been "kidnapped" and becomes a passenger for the duration of the trip. Jodi, the most insightful and compassionate of the three teens elicits empathy from Gordon and despite his attempts to notify police of his "kidnapping", Gordon is powerless to stop the journey. Along the way, Gordon finds meaning and purpose without any cheesy or touching displays of emotion from any of the aforementioned characters and looks 15 years younger than he did at the beginning of the film. A great movie for young teenagers and parents to watch together.

Customer Reviews:
Slasher movie ? I dont think so.......2006-12-13
"The Final Terror" wasn't a bad movie but it was a bad slasher movie.
Nary a drop of blood ,ok maybe a drop or 2 but WEAK kills .Great cast ,I was in love with Adrian Zmed when I was a teenager, him without a shirt on was enough for me to buy it. .Darrel Hannah, Rachel Ward and Joe Pantoliano were virtual unknowns at the time and lend to the credibility of the cast today.
It reminded me somewhat of the movie "Southern Comfort "because of the boobie traps and atmosphere although Southern Comfort was highly superior , too bad you cant see very much of whats going on in this movie due to the terrible quality and lighting of the disc.
I own it because I have every movie available that is in the slasher genre. This could have been fantastic if there were BLOOD~!! You could SEE IT~!! and it were given more thought.
ESSENTIAL FOR FANS OF 80'S LOW BUDGET HORROR MOVIES.......2006-11-21
As a kid I remember seeing this in about every video store in the horror section alonside other 'classics' like Slaughter High,Scarecrows,The original The Hills have eyes and of course, Don't Go In The Woods. If you are reading this review then you know what I am talking about and the old time video stores with that musty smell and and fun it was on the weekends to get some horror movies. To me, as long as it was set in the woods or had an old house/barn or even a scary field then that is all I needed to know to make my choice.
The Final Terror has all the elements of a good horror movie. I don't even mind if this formula has been done before. It has a group of campers going into a very dark forest with a crazed bus driver. They pass by a mental institution on the way that only gives it more of an edge with your mind wondering of the possiblities of someone maybe getting out of the asylum and into the woods. You have a campfire tale that talks of a crazy person roaming the woods that enforces the idea even more. Of course you have the character that gets a prank pulled on him and he stays in the woods all night howling like a wolf(you have to see this prank...a highlight of the film) that they later look for and that splits up the group for when the inevitable happens.....the leaders are the first to go leaving the others to fend for themselves.
Then you have some great moments of tension including many false scares where the music builds up only to have someone they know tap them on the shoulder or something. Some of the best moments are when two of the guys go into a shack in the woods where they find out their food/raft and equipment has been hidden at and that the bus driver is the one that lives there. They find some very disturbing things in there and take off running back into the woods!!! You also have the very scary bus scene that I won't give away.
Bottom line is even if this did not have future big name stars in it then this would still be what I would call an essential movie to watch for fans of movies like this. If you are a fan of newer movies with big budgets and special effects then this will most likely disappoint you. For others who want a movie that let's their mind wonder what could be next then this is for you!!!
Great movie, but is it digitally remastered?.......2006-05-31
I remember seeing this movie in the late 80's when it was taped off of HBO. I've always been a fan of this film, because I think it has alot to offer, but if your talking in terms of DVD status, it dosen't rate so high. Im glad to see this was put out on DVD for others to check out, but its sad it got such bad treatment. The video quality is probably worse then the VHS version. It looks like to me they took the best copy on tape, and converted it to DVD. Its definitly not "remastered". It would have been nice to see it in its widescreen format with cleaned up audio and sound, but not so with this one. In fact, because this movie didnt exactly burn up the charts, you probably will never see a special edition or any other version then the one currently out because there just isnt enough interest in this film. The DVD also lacks any features, commentary, ect. Also no artwork insert either, but mine did come with $50 in coupons!
0.5 STARS: "Final Joke" is more like it unfortunately........2006-05-30
This movie should not be named "Final Terror", but should be named "Final Joke" instead because it sucks so bad. First of all, I'm not one to criticize DVD transfers, but the picture quality is horrible with this DVD. Second, this movie lacks cohesiveness and dexterity. The scenes do not move well from one scene to the next...the movie has no fluidity and almost zero character development. Also, there is ZERO suspense in this movie and no scares whatsoever...the directing is horrible as well because all of the scenes come off looking generic and wooden. This movie lacks substance and style, and when I saw the killer, I burst out laughing because it was such a joke. Despite some decent actors in this movie like Rachel Ward and Daryl Hannah, the movie fails in almost every respect. The kills are lame when you can see what's going on, the production values are very poor and there is virtually no theatrical structure to this movie...it just does not flow well. I wish I had not bought this trash, but I am on a mission to see every horror movie and I obviously have just about seen them all if I am looking to this kind of trash to find some decency in the obscurity of B-movie horror.
we can only hope this is the "final"one.......2006-04-28
this is one of those bottom of the rock "slasher" movies of the 80's. the story rips off every other slasher movie out and doesn't even do that well. not scary or funny just a waste of time and disc space. save your money.

Description
Addison Terrill (C. THOMAS HOWELL), a former district attorney now in a lucrative private practice, has what seems to be the perfect life. Sharing a successful law firm with his best friend, Sam Moss (BEN BROWDER), Addison's career is on the rise and he has a luxurious home, a beautiful, sexy wife, Becky (SEAN YOUNG), and a bright young son. But life as he knows it is turned upside down when he arrives home from work late one night to find his wife brutally murdered and his son unconscious in critical condition at the hospital. Now, fingered as a suspect by the police, Addison must race to find the real killer and prove his innocence before it's too late. Out of desperation with no where else to turn, Addison must put his trust in the only other person tied to the case, ex-cop Jesus Vargas (GIANCARLO ESPOSITO). Bitter and humiliated by his removal from the police force, Vargas holds Addison personally responsible for ending his career in law enforcement, and his motivation for finding the killer may not be to Addison's advantage. In order to solve the case and find the true killer, both men must put their differences aside and their lives on the line. Their search leads them through the city's underworld and into a wicked web of deceit. As hard truths become revealed and dark secrets begin to unfold, the ring of suspects close in around Addison and he finds himself questioning the very people he trusted.
Customer Reviews:
Suprising End For Me.......2007-05-29
I had No idea who the killer was until the very end. I thought this was an excellent movie.
Was this actually released theatrically?.......2005-11-28
Putting this on DVD seems like a big enough waste of money. You can tell the film is going to be chintzy on the budget when the lead actress's wig looks like a Halloween prop at your local Party City; however, the beautiful house used for the main characters was the real star here. But this film's redeeming quality is how laughably bad it is. You will find yourself rewinding scenes to laugh again as you won't believe how cheesey it looked the first time - like when the hooker gets shot - a classic death scene! The cinematography never rises above a primetime episodic on a low budget giving it a shot on video feel. The dark night scenes were overlit, and the supporting cast were the real jewels here insuring they never work again. The mention of "Dr. Pepper" numerous times was so ridiculous - did the Texas-based Dr Pepper demand to be featured throughout this Texas production or were they offered some free publicity? Either way, Dr Pepper sure tastes good with Turkey.
Entertaining.......2005-05-14
An entertaining 94 minutes of "who done it" intrigue.
Was good to see Sean Young again.
C. Thomas Howell looked a bit ragged.... is his health OK ?
Admittedly we guessed the plot and the killer at around 30 minutes into the movie and at times the plot twists made us think we might be wrong.... but we were right.
Despite figuring it out so early, it was still entertaining
A Killer Within .......2005-04-16
A Killer Within does a good job of coupling some original surprises with a character-driven plot. No easy feat for sure, and trust me, the script could have easily been turned into a lousy Lifetime Channel movie of the week without the right direction and cast.
Becky Terrill, played by Sean Young, leads the caricatured life of a stereotypical Dallas socialite. Her posh North Dallas house is ridiculous, her Mercedes is pristine and her dependency on alcohol is ravenous. The only thing that seems to bother Becky's Prada-clad existence is her 4 year-old son.
Becky's husband, Addison, played by C. Thomas Howell, is a high-powered corporate attorney with some codependency issues and a raging Dr. Pepper jones. Addison comes home from work to find Becky brutally murdered, apparently at the hands of someone targeting Addison. The lead detective fingers Addison as suspect number one and his investigation basically ends there.
But Addison, who has made some dangerous enemies during his climb to the top of the food chain, has a suspect of his own. In order to find the killer and protect his innocence, Addison reaches into his past and enlists the help of Jesus Vargas, a former cop played with enthusiasm by Giancarlo Esposito. Esposito's performance as the renegade ex-cop is the most authentic in the film. The lawman and the lawyer strike an uneasy alliance as they navigate the seedy side of Dallas in search of Becky's killer.
Director Brad Keller does a masterful job of introducing just about everyone as a suspect and the guessing continues to the very end.
A Killer Within.......2005-04-16
A Killer Within is a decent murder mystery. This indie flick isn't the next Million Dollar Baby, but it will keep you entertained for about an hour and half.
The plot is well written and there's a good ensemble cast (C. Thomas Howell, Sean Young and Giancarlo Esposito). The basic premise is that Addison (Howell) is a big-shot lawyer, who comes home one night to find that his wife Becky (Young) has been murdered and his young son is unconscious and badly injured. With the help of his business partner and an ex-cop, Addison goes on a search to find the real killer.
Ben Browder's performance as Addison's business partner is also worth mentioning. Sci-fi buffs will probably recognize Browder from Stargate SG-1 and Farscape.
If you're into murder mysteries, it's definitely worth taking a look at.

The Sexy Barbara Eden!.......2006-03-08
This is probably Barbara Edens best movie. She's not famous for great movies, but this is my favorite, because she looks HOT! If you like her as Jeannie, as I do, you will like her in The Woman Hunter. She still looks like Jeannie in this one, and we get to see her in several sexy outfits, including a bikini, navel and all!! Very Hot! Oh, the movie is OK, too. Kind of a, Who is the Killer, murder mystery type. But the only reason to get the movie is, The Sexy Barbara Eden!! You won't be sorry. She's HOT!!
