This movie is based on a real life event when a plane crashes in a snowy and icy wilderness. Richard Chamberlain gives a fine performance as the Captain of the plane who feels guilty about his involvement in the crash and seeks redemption by doing everything he can to assist the survivors. However this movie really belongs to Catherine Mary Stewart who gives a wonderful and moving performance as a young Doctor who tries very hard to tend to the wounded and keep the spirits of the the suvivors high as they await rescue. This is an engrossing film which is made even more hard hitting by the fact that it is based on truth.

Richard Chamberlain stars as Captain John Couch, the pilot of a Canadian military transport, crashing on October 30, 1991, just a few miles short of its destination. Five of the eighteen crew members perish on impact, and though help is on the way, rough terrain and a blizzard, rendor the freezing survivors unreachable. Captain Couch valiantly risks his life, struggling against the deadly elements, to keep his crew and passengers alive in the arctic wasteland.

This was one of Richard Chamberlain's most powerful performances. ORDEAL IN THE ARCTIC, is a story of human endurance, and heroism. It will keep you emotionally engaged, and in captivated suspense, until its gripping conclusion. Greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for his fellow man.

In the dead of winter, a C-130 military transport flying from Thule, Greenland to Alert, Canada crashes on an ice cap about 2 miles from Alert. Unfortunately, an arctic storm hampers rescue attempts, and a long, cold ordeal sets in. I, personally, thought this was an excellent movie

As a survivor of this event I found that there where a number of errors made and that the story line was the point of view of only a couple of people as far as events at the site where concerned. Production on this film was already under way when I was asked for my input. However it makes for good entertainment and gives a fair accounting of the hardships encountered by the survivors.
