The 1980s may be remembered for a lot of things--Reagan, Tiananmen Square, the genius of Miami Vice--but music probably won't be foremost among them. Still, the decade did have its guilty pleasures, some of which can be found right here on this 14-song, 58-minute DVD. ABC ("The Look of Love"), Asia ("Heat of the Moment"), Swing Out Sister ("Breakout"), Night Ranger ("Sister Christian"), Berlin ("No More Words"): let's face it, no hall of fame will be shining up a plaque for them (or anyone else featured here, except perhaps Squeeze, whose soulful "Tempted" stands out amid all the fluffy synth-pop) anytime soon. So the songs are generally about as memorable as your last potato chip, and the videos are pretty lame by the technical standards of the 21st century. That doesn't mean you can't enjoy Tears for Fears to your heart's delight--just keep it to yourself. --Sam Graham

5 out of 5 stars What memories!.......2007-01-04

My kids love to see the songs I grew up with. Back when videos ruled!

1 out of 5 stars There are much better 80's collections out there........2006-12-01

I was VERY dissappointed with this DVD. I and everyone else in their 40's were the first MTV viewers and I've found many out there who would love to relive those days and this DVD with it's tiny selection of videos is a serious letdown. If you REALLY want a great collection of those videos go to [...].com. I know it's weird name for a place to get music videos but they have two 80's collections and I bought both. For $[...] I got 12 discs with Hundreds of our videos and I smile every time I play them. There are pleny of songs I've not even heard since I was 18. Peter Gabriel, Thomson Twins, Depeche Mode and on and on. New Wave, rock, pop. Don't waste your money on the [...] selections! These things only have a handful of songs on them. Email me if you want to know where to get a great collection!

4 out of 5 stars Fair compilation; good value for your money.......2006-08-27

This music video compilation is a must have for any 80's music fan. The main problem with most such video compilations out there these days is that they are too scanty. The average music video DVD contains like 5-7 songs at the most. Wouldn't you rather spend a few dollars more and get a disc which contains more good hits in one place? And this collection does exactly that. It puts (videos of) 14 of the 80's best hits in one place. Agreed, there is still a lot more space on a DVD to get three times as many videos, but this collection stands out compared to the other collections out there today. The other good thing is that there were a lot of one-hit-wonder bands back then that you cannot really find videos of now e.g. Dan Hartman or Berlin. You can easily get a DVD of Tears For Fears videos but not these other bands. Even if you could many people wouldn't buy them because they only had a few good songs to their credit. So it is great to get your hands on a DVD where you can find all these good numbers in one place. In a nutshell: there's room for improvement, but that shouldn't blind you to what it's worth and pass it over.

4 out of 5 stars Ehhh picture quality not the greatest.......2006-08-20

The picture quality is not very good. It's like watching the videos on an old VHS tape taped off of television. I've never seen a DVD in my DVD player look so not digital. The selection is okay, the DVD opens playing a small clip of the Tears for Fears song "Head Over Heels" even though that video isn't on the set--but fear not, two Tears for Fears videos are here. I bought this because I love the Level 42 video for "Something About You," and I figured this was my one shot to get it on DVD. Buy this if you just must have it, the price is a bit much for such a short little collection, this should really be in the $12.99 or less range.

4 out of 5 stars Pure 80's the DVD.......2006-03-11

It was pretty good. I would like to see more of these since VH1 and MTV have started programming nothing but crappy videos in the morning for a short time and really crappy reality TV all day long.

4 out of 5 stars a live performance!.......2007-06-14

Being that there is so little Squeeze video out there, this is a must for fans. The live performance suffers a bit from so-so lighting and camera angles, but the sound is good. The keyboardist is not Jools Holland in the live performance, but he can be seen in many of the videos. Until somebody finds a better video of live Squeeze in a vault somewhere, get this! I purchased the DVD from Amazon through Caiman, it came in 2 days in excellent shape.

    Description

Those vicious Vegetables of Doom bounce back for another go at world domination in this Third installment of the comedy classic "Killer Tomato" series. Tomato mastermind Mortimer Gangreen (The Addams Family's John Astin has concocted a wacky scheme to plunder the planet. Disguised as Jeronahew, the ultimate talk show superstar, he plans to replace "couch potatoes" with "rad tomatoes" --creating a humungous Tomatocracy! (Whatever that is).

Fortunately for us human types, detective Lance Boyle (Rick Rockwell) and voluptuous Tomatologist Kennedi Johnson (Crystal Carson) have other ideas¿and thus begins a wildly improbable (and totally hilarious) adventure that culminates at the awesome Temple of Food - where Kennedi is about to become a bacon, lettuce and human sandwich!

    Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars The first on was great! Why this?.......2006-03-30

This movie was awful! The first one was funny, action, and this has nothing good! The actors are bad! This totaly stink!!! Don't buy this crap!

4 out of 5 stars Dr. Gang Green strikes again.......2006-02-13

In a world full of bad news, dirty politicians, and the never ending wars on drugs and terror, there are few things that make life worth living, Killer Tomato movies are one of the few rays of sunshine for this dreary planet.

That's right folks. Dr. Gang Green and his trusty sidekick Igor are at it again trying to take over the world with the deadliest of all fruits (because as we all know, tomatoes technically are fags). This movie starts off with a beautiful blond being chased down by a maniac in a hockey mask. Little do they both know they are both about to be killed by tomatoes wielding chainsaws and wearing hockey masks of their own.

Lt. Finletter is back as the greatest of all tomato fighters. Sam Smith the disguise expert even makes a quick appearance (sort of). The tomatologist, Kennedy Johnyson (who is a heck of a tomato herself) is the eye candy for this flick.

The plot is simple enough. Dr. Gang Green is now trying to use the TV media as the means to which take over. He does a funny Geraldo knock off as a TV talkshow host. Along the way the tomato gags are fast, furious, and hilarious.

It's really simple. If you love one Tomato movie, you'll love them all. If you hate one, well go watch something else and don't bother seeing the other three.

3 out of 5 stars Silly Fun ...with a "Millionaire".......2002-08-04

This is the third movie in the Killer Tomato series. It stars John Astin (Addams Family on TV) and Rick Rockwell (Who Wants To Marry A Millionaire).

This time Dr. Gangreen wants to take over the world by taking over the news media. Of course, his Killer Tomatoes fit into the plans too. Lance is the one who tries to stop him - with some help from Kennedi who is a Tomatologist. (Yep. She studies Tomatoes.)

The jokes are very silly. This is one of those movies you'll think is just dumb or great. It appears to have a bigger budget and stronger script than the original. Although the story might be more developed than the original, I'm not sure if I can say it's a better movie. The original's appeal was in it's very obvious low-budget. The original almost looks home-made. Here the presentation is better, but the script doesn't play out as well. This movie is easier to sit through than the second movie - Return of the Killer Tomatoes (which had most of the actors from the first movie plus George Clooney). Killer Tomatoes Strike Back is about equal to the next movie, Killer Tomatoes Eat France, if you decide you want to see more.

    4 out of 5 stars Cooooooooool!.......2000-06-29

This film is just great. It's a bout the evil dr. Ganggren who is trying to brian wash people through his talk show, his evil plan is helped by the evil docters killer tomatoes. It is up to a tomatoeologeist and a cop (a dirty harry spoof) to stop the sinister plan. This is a great film, it has lots of great laughs and is just plane entertaining till the end. The one problem is that if the show situation happened I wouldn't watch the show, cause it seems realy boring. Just don't expect anouther [show] and you'll be fine.

    3 out of 5 stars A stupid sequel..........2000-06-12

Following the infamous Tomatoes Attacks movies, this one is a comedy like Top Secret and Airplane. Well saying, it tries to be, 'cause it's much inferior than that, the jokes are extremely stupid. Even so, it has some good gags, like the English-Tomatoe dictionary...

2 out of 5 stars Post-traumatic stress syndrome, in rural Mexico, by a Vietnam Vet and CIA operative.......2007-03-15

Puerto Vallarta Squeeze, is a dark, conspiracy-laden movie, telling
a story that seems somewhat over-worked (considering the author felt
the need to have one of the protagonists profession be that of a
    famed book writer).

It will also probably be of interest mostly to military veterans,
who can relate to the post-traumatic stress syndrome that
characterizes literally 100's of thousands of former personnel in
the well documented conflicts of Vietnam, and some of former covert
operatives of the CIA, as played by Scott Glenn, in this picture.

Apart from the interesting filmed aspects of small-towns across
Northern Mexico, this picture also emphasizes its rural aspects and
abandoned villages, that obviously, are worlds apart from the major
Mexican cities or even, those of the USA, across the border. The
movie's action isn't entirely isolated, as the tourism hot spots are
also partly filmed, so the audience is able to see that the story
takes place in this day and age.

As said, apart from the psychological aspects that some may
appreciate, (the role being that of a burnt out, aging Vietnam vet,
turned CIA operative), the film also intertwines occasionally some
human aspects as well, such as the poverty of a segment of the
Mexican population, and the peasant beauty of the actress, played
intelligently, and charismatically by Giovanna Zacarias.

Surely, some may question the realism or even, the necessity of once
more bringing in the sterotype of Mexican women as maids, who are
easy to buy favors from, and of Mexican men as police officers, law
enforcement, some of which are "clearly" corrupt.

Harvey Keitel is brought in, to add some spice from time to time, in
the movie, and rescue it from a made-for-TV only stigma, that
otherwise might discourage DVD rental customers, or buyers. Kietel
only mostestly appears in the movie, and isn't given a chance to do
much with his role, or play out anything remotely close to the
powerful impact some of his previous movies allowed him to do.

The audio, music is acceptable, if not a bit repetitive, and the
classic score too identical to what we've heard 100's of times
before. This is mitigated with the flamenco guitar that is also
interspersed in the soundtrack, to emphasize the Mexican-ness of
    this movie.

Overall, not a bad experience, but not something that people will
want to see a second time.

5 out of 5 stars Has not received adequate recognition........2007-01-14

This is a wonderful, not well known (at least to me) flick with a great plot and a lot of humor thrown in.

4 out of 5 stars Good action film with an intelligent script.......2006-11-06

Usually these unknown direct to video flicks don't have much going for them other than formulaic plot and maybe a few stars. Both those elements are apparent in "Puerto Vallarte Squeeze" (cast includes Scott Glenn, Harvey Keitel, Miguel Sandoval, Craig Wasson and Giovanna Zacarías) but this movie has good action, believable acting and an outstanding script that only one time goes off into predictably silly behavior.

The movie itself is a pretty typical action-suspenser. Glenn goes down to Mexico and kills a couple guys for revenge, then makes a deal with Wasson and girlfriend Zacarias to help him escape. The trio are pursued by cops including American Keitel -- who is very poorly directed and whose role is overly mechanical and macho -- and a Mexcican crew led by Sadoval. A chase ensues, along with some other predictable and unpredictable action, before our film comes to a familiar and somewhat foretold conclusion.

I didn't have high hopes for this movie and it exceeded my expectations in everything but the cardboard characterization Keitel got stuck with. Scott Glenn gives a typical low-key performance and is countered by Wasson, who gives a heart of sleeve performance when stressed. The girlfriend seems to moderate the two extremes and is a nice makeweight for their combat.

I'd recommend this movie to anyone that likes any of the actors, action, suspense, or simple film enjoyment. This movie is about as unpretentious as they come and is has a very intelligent script that keeps you involved all the way. I wish Keitel's character had been written better but the movie overcomes that brief problem, aided in large part by sweeping Mexican (probably Californian) vistas in many scenes.

Note: this movie is also known as "Puerto Vallarte".

    4 out of 5 stars Good suspense/action/romance road movie.......2006-10-22

An American writer and his Mexican girlfriend witness an assassination in Puerto Vallarta. Soon they and the assassin are on the run to the US border, pursued by the CIA and Mexican police. I won't say much more about the plot, because the suspense depends on watching it unwind.

Scott Glenn is impressive as the assassin with a mysterious past and uncertain intentions, stony-faced and tough but also charming when needed. Harvey Keitel is more relaxed than usual as the cynical CIA man in charge of recovering Glenn. Four of the the five key roles are very well cast and played, and the fifth could be regarded as appropriately wooden. The characters drew me in and held my attention.

The plot is strong and well thought out, save for a few weak points that aren't too hard to look past. So-so ending could have used a little more work. The suspense and action are handled better than the romance, which is uneven in its portrayal but still compelling enough. There is a significant amount of psychological interaction between the main characters, who develop in a satisfying way. The feel of the film is less slick than typical Hollywood products but still fairly smooth, with a little independent film aura, for better and worse. The action is budget but fine.

Enough interesting things going on in this to make it worth seeing more than once.

5 out of 5 stars Puerto Vallarta Squeeze.......2006-06-26

This movie was truly a roller coaster ride! A story of vengence, deceit, betrayal and finally redemption - WOW! The cast really complemented each other - no slackers. The vistas of Mexico gave the storyline a heightened reality. Needless to say that I have recommended this movie to my friends.

2 out of 5 stars A parody of fundraisers funny on a difficult topic.......2007-06-18

THE BIG SQUEEZE (1996) tells a story of a fight between a man and
his wife over a medical disability and health insurance claim paid
out by an insurer to them, in a lump sum.

Although this isn't made clear at all in the outset (the film
suggesting a sinister plot) much of the film, unfortunately or not,
is a parody of fundraisers done by NP0's, such as religious
organizations of all kinds, that are in dire straights in this day
and age from the taxman's cut, the need to meet construction codes
of building in public use, and from atheism in the population.

The target audience is obviously the below 21 bracket, considering
the obsessive, idealistic or utopic outlook on life, that revolves
centrally around what may or may not happen at a specific bar,
specific people, not excluding the essential lovemaking scenes.

There's the Michelle Pfeiffer lookalike, Lara Flynn B0yle (in look,
mannerisms and acting), as well as a Ted Danson clone in the form
of Luca Bercovici or a young Geraldo Rivera cameleon Danny Nucci,
all doing fine jobs on screen, in projecting an aura of innocence,
youth, calmness, a relaxed friendliness throughout the 90 mins.
This allows the movie to bring forth the human, personal aspects
of the characters, that is important in keeping people interested
        and the gags alive.

They organize a fund raiser for chuch repairs required by a revised
municipal building code for earthquakes, and is led by Peter
Dobson, who plays a mix between playboy, grifter and conman,
setting up the mark, Bercovici, in anticipation of cashing in on
the insurance cash that the latter refuses to split evenly with his
        wife, Boyle.

The fact that a pan and scan format was chosen is an omen. This is
not a visual movie (aside from projecting the charisma, good humor
and freshness of the cast), but rather a comedy, such that the
focal point is the dialog, the twists and the reactions of the
characters to each turn in events.

The soundtrack for the most part is adequate, skillfully composed,
although the band playing some covers of 6O's numbers will make
        some cringe.

They plan to score $120k, and to blow town, splitting the amount
among themselves, with little fear, remorse of bilking a church, an
entire community, or so they plan to... it's "time to make lemonade
out of the lemons" by squeezing the marks, says Dobson.

Overall, this picture is not spectacular enough for theatres unless
you are in the target demographic, but the makers should be
congratulated for making a funny and interesting movie, indeed, on
        a taboo topic of fundraisers.

5 out of 5 stars Mmm... Delightful. Like great chocolate!.......1999-10-22

So okay... Not all movies can hit you between the eyes. But you also want to be able to enjoy a different type of movie. One that's mellow, that's subtle, that lies on your tongue and slowly melts... One of those movies is this one. Subtle. Delightful. Funny. Just like great chocolate!

2 out of 5 stars not too bad.......1999-06-13

this is one of htose movies... you can watch it.. but it doens't mean much.. Laura Flynn Boyle plays a barmaid married to a former ball player. While she stays with a hispanic artist named jesse (ironic.. cuz i know soem one liek that too)whom she falls in love with while she left her hubby cuz hes keeping all of their disability money... basically a story of how laura and another con man help get the money that he owes her..

This is a great movie. It's hard to grow up when you live in a neighborhood like this. In my opinion the movie is very realistic in a lot of ways and as a social worker I can say that I've seen a lot of these lives.

5 out of 5 stars Harrowing, yet hopeful.......2000-08-09

This independent film portrays the many fears and challenges associated with today's adolescents. Patton-Spruill vividly recounts how three youth (a/k/a "PG-13 Crew") become involved with gangs, drugs and violence. Considering the age and the harrowing accounts portrayed in the film, one begins to realize the impressionability of youth in general. Consequently, Patton-Spruill enables the viewer to understand the reasons behind the youth's decisions, and how easily they were trapped. However, getting them out alive is even harder, if not impossible. Patton-Spruill incorporates how the community can help these youth and provides hope for the future.

4 out of 5 stars Gritty and Disturbing.......2000-02-28

Squeeze was a great movie about three youths coping with life in Dorcester Mass, a less than nice part of Boston. I found it very realistic, and a scary portrayal of street life. It disturbed me very much. It was very insightful, and a must see for anyone interested in the inner cities.
