Description
Jack Flinter, the "Flick", is a small-time drug dealer grafting through Dublin's club-cultured sin bins, getting to know the flip side of the Celtic animal first hand. He knows all the moves and all the shakes. But he's bored. Getting restless, he loses his girlfriend and his friends are just a precession of hurried faces punctuating his time. Something must give. And it does. When an old girlfriend shows up from Spain with a fresh drug addiction and a dangerous gang of criminals, the "Flick" gets drawn into a world of high-crime and becomes bait for the Dublin police interested in the capture of the new arrivals.

A great-looking, well-acted Western in the old-school tradition, Seraphim Falls is definitely worth a look for fans of the genre. There's nothing really new here (which explains why it played only briefly in theaters), and more than a few critics noted its obvious similarities to Clint Eastwood's classic The Outlaw Josey Wales. Still, you have to admire director and cowriter David Von Ancken (a 10-year TV veteran making his feature debut) for delivering an engrossing post-Civil War revenge story (cowritten with Abby Everett Jacques) that isn't hobbled by its overly familiar plotting. Blessed by the exquisite cinematography of John Toll (whose credits include The Thin Red Line, Almost Famous and The Last Samurai) and bolstered by a lush but unobtrusive score by Harry Gregson-Williams, this prestigious production begins very well indeed, with a wintry manhunt in the Ruby Mountains of Nevada, circa 1868. Former Union captain Gideon (Pierce Brosnan) is being tracked by a seemingly brutal pursuer named Carver (Liam Neeson) whose four-man posse (including veteran character actors Ed Lauter and Michael Wincott) is soon reduced to two.
As the manhunt continues, Brosnan and Neeson make the most of minimal dialogue, and flashbacks give us hints about the tragic event that set this plot in motion. It's a simple, elemental tale of justice in the wilderness, with occasional quirks like a snake-oil vendor (Anjelica Huston) who appears literally out of nowhere, and a top-hatted Indian (Wes Studi) who gives the film a slight, mystical air of mystery. And while a more daring director might have opted for a more powerful visual style, there's something to be said for Von Ancken's straightforward approach, perfectly matched by Toll's breathtaking landscapes, shot on location in Oregon and New Mexico and ranging from raging rivers to sun-baked desert flats. None of this makes Seraphim Falls a particularly exceptional movie, but with a fine cast that also includes such familiar faces as Angie Harmon, Tom Noonan, Xander Berkeley, and Kevin J. O'Connor, there's ample reward in a film that doesn't pretend to be anything more than a respectable entry in its genre. --Jeff Shannon
Product Description
Liam Neeson (Batman Begins, Star Wars: Episode 1 "The Phantom Menace" ) and Pierce Brosnan (Bond movies, The Thomas Crown Affair) star in this epic chase and primal battle set in the breathtaking landscape of the West. The civil war has ended but Colonel Morsman Carver (Neeson) is on one final mission: to kill Gideon (Brosnan) no matter what it takes. Launched by a gunshot and propelled by rage, the relentless pursuit takes them both far from the comforts and codes of civilization, into the bloodiest recesses of their own souls. Also starring Academy Award® winner Anjelica Huston and Angie Harmon. It's been five years since the end of the American Civil War. Somewhere deep within the snowy mountains of the American West a lone figure - Gideon (Brosnan) sits in front of a fire, lost in thought. Abruptly, he is pulled out of his reverie by the echo of a Henry rifle and a bullet puffing into the snow inches from his head. Instantly Gideon calculates his one chance of survival. To leave everything he owns and run for the cover. And so begins the thrilling account of Colonel Morsman Carver's (Neeson) terrible revenge - to hunt down and kill Gideon, no matter what it takes. There will be many men dead before these two meet face to face, and only then will Carver fully comprehend the full cost of his undertaking. Launched by a gunshot and propelled by rage, the relentless pursuit will take them both far from the comforts and codes of civilization and into the unforgiving wilderness.

Classic Western .......2007-07-04
Solid classic western from begining to end. Especially the surreal ending and the anti-war mesage.
Both men are at the top of their acting games. This is the best western I have watched in ten years.
Echoes of Josey Wales...but different.......2007-06-29
This is an interesting and watchable movie, well acted and photographed.
It has a basic story line that strongly borrows from "The Outlaw Josey Wales", but the screenplay contains enough variations on the hunter vs. hunted theme to mark it as a different film from Eastwood's.
My only real complaint about it is that it begins strongly , in a realistic fashion, continues in this manner through most of its length, but then begins to unwind into something mystical and surreal as the end approaches. Basically, it starts to get weird. It's like the director decided to take a side trip through the Twilight Zone to reach his end credits.
It could be argued that the desert conclusion puts the two adversaries (Brosnan and Neeson) in a situation where the intense heat and lack of water makes them hallucinate and see and hear things wrongly: perceptions askew. Maybe. But the fact remains that from Wes Studi's appearance onward this movie starts going a bit wonky. And is the Angelica Huston character actually there at all? Is "she" real? Or is "she" the Devil? You almost feel the production is taking on a Rod Serling morality play form...wrapped in metaphor...there at the end.
"Seraphim Falls" left this reviewer largely unsatisfied with its ending. but mostly pleased with the 85% of it preceeding that.
Give it a shot. Its an entertaining enough effort.
An Utter Mess.......2007-06-28
It is amazing to me that this movie has managed to recieve an average rating above 1 star (deserves a zero). It's a complete mess from beginning to end. Gideon (Brosnan) and Carver (Neeson) are both unlikeable characters, and the actors play their roles with phony Western overstatement. Brosnan is so unbelievable as his character, it is laughable.
The plot is a grinding, plodding, so-what sort of scenario in which Gideon and Carver are supposed to encounter some intersting folks along their journey and end up in a climactic face-off with each other (yawn). The only things they come across are foolish actors struggling through poorly written parts, including Anjelica Huston who shows up out of nowhere in the desert in a nonsensical cameo.
To compare this movie favorably to "The Outlaw Josey Wales" is a crime. Where "..Josey.." has charm, suspense, pathos, and a boat load of great characters, "Seraphim.." has nothing to offer - NOTHING.
A Fugitive-like western.......2007-06-28
I liked this western as it was action packed and suspenseful from the git go. I got a bit of a chuckle that the two post-Civil War characters in this wild, wild American west film were Irish-born Liam Neeson and Pierce Brosnan . I'd never seen the dapper Pierce look grizzly and bedraggled before and definitely enjoyed him in his efficient, survivalist character. I was aware of the lack of Liam's Irish brogue as if it took much of his attention to speak like a western cowboy. It had beautiful cinematography but the ending was just okay.
Very intersting........2007-06-28
It is not what you would expect from a western/revenges story. Very poetic and more than a little abstract in an existential way. The directing/photography is beautiful.

JoBeth Williams plays an unfulfilled housewife who wins a trip to Paris after entering a short-story contest. Once there, she is hit by a car and wakes up believing she is the ingenious and brave heroine from her story. A series of misadventures leads her on a merry chase with fellow bumbler Tom Conti. The casting is a little dubious, but the ever adorable Conti gives this charm. It may rip off Romancing the Stone--without emulating that flick's witty dialogue or sexuality--but this appealing fluff remains a pleasant, if slight, diversion. --Rochelle O'Gorman
Description

Romantic Getaway.......2007-07-03
I saw this movie in the 80's when it first came out. At that time, Romance Novels were very popular and this movie fed right into that trend. I'd never seen JoBeth Williams in a comedy before, and I thought she was wonderful! And I'd never seen Tom Conti in anything...but he was fantastic! Very funny, great timing and some of the best double takes and confusion I've ever seen! The supporting cast was good-and funny. I loved the story line: a bored housewife who loves romance novels wins a contest, leaves her family and goes to Paris (because her dumpy, boring husband refuses to go with her), and after being hit by a car, wakes up thinking she's the herione of a romance novel. It's a great way to get into all kinds of funny situations! In the end, she falls in love with her "partner in crime", brings down a drug dealer and stumbles into a rewarding new career as a writer. You can see it all coming, so there aren't many surprises there, but it's still alot of fun. Watching it now, it seems dated, but I still laugh and love it!
One of my all time fave's!.......2007-06-11
I saw this movie at the movie theater when it first came out and I loved it! It's one of the cutest movies I've ever seen. JoBeth Williams and Tom Conti are so perfect together ! There's not much that I can say that won't sound hokey, but it's a classic!
American Dreamer.......2007-06-11
Every woman's daydream come true. Jobeth Williams gets a coma and awakes thinking she is the perfect spy. In this ideal world she goes to Paris and gets thousands of dollars worth of name brand clothing with only the signing of her name (WOW). She fights the bad guys and wins the love of a rich romance writer.
AMERICAN DREAMER.......2007-03-30
IT'S A GREAT OLD TIME MOVIE FOR PURE ENJOYMENT WITH NO BAD LANGUAGE BUT FUN, LAUGHTER AND A HITCHCOCK ENDING. WHENEVER I FEEL ALITTLE DEPRESSED I JUST GET THIS MOVIE OUT AND START WATCHING IT AND START LAUGHING AND FEEL BETTER.
American Dreamer DVD.......2007-03-30
I was very pleased to find this old movie in DVD form and it arrived quickly and efficiently to my daughter. She was very happy.

Wolfgang picks up men at the local cottage, Reinhold swings both ways, and Manfred just masturbates. Low on cash, they decide to `visit' two bourgeois gay men (into workmen, toe-sucking and cottaging). Then it turns nasty . . .

Frightening and Amusing.......2007-05-14
"Skin Flick"
Frightening and Amusing
Amos Lassen and Cinema Pride
Bruce LaBruce's "Skin Flick" is a hard movie to caregorize. It mught be raunchy and pornographic on one hand but it has a theme on the other hand. The guys are hot even though they represent guys that most of us would not likely be turned on by. The things they do are disgusting but in some strange way they are quite sexy. The movie is shot like a typical porn movie with the same kind of disco music in the background of what looks like regular porn.
However, the movie is not porn but a satire on it. It also satirizes fantasy and fetish and is not meant to be taken seriously. If you know that in advance then "Skin Flick" can be considered quite a good movie. There is a problem here in that many people do not recognize satire and thereby miss the point and throw the movie away as futile entertainment. Fetish and fantasy are both strange and contradictory. Things that we find repellant in real life can many times become turn-ons in fantasy. Many turn away from violence in reality but look to it in fantasy, for example.
LaBruce, the director of the film, depicts skinheads as hypocrites and this is the way he chose to take them down. Hey are basically straight men whose physical presences, in their minds, represents machismo--a reflection of their own self images. Like many gay men they are very fashion conscious and spend a lot of time working out in order to build muscles. There must be some level of self-denial lying beneath this physica narcissism. LaBruce shows us that homophobia is not about the sex act but about appearing as less manly. There is one skinhead in the film who does not have sex with the others and is always willing to fight anyone. He, however, is not willing to have sex with his fellows and in the convoluted world of the skinhead culture he is looked upon with disdain by his mates. LaBruce throws in a couple of feminine guys to show what really scares the homophobes and they fool everyone by being extremely hard internally.
LaBruce also attacks racism. He does this also tongue in cheek. The porn films that the skinheads watch all have black actors. It appears that the skinheads in this movie are both attracted and repulsed by the same things.
The film is obviously low-budget but I feel it has a lot to say about so many things--especially the nature of prejudice. However, be prepared for some rather graphic sex and a great of male frontal nudity.
hmm.......2006-03-26
I rented this film, thinking it was a bad-ass kind of gang film.
Therefore, I was extremely surprised when all the gay sex started kickin' in.
The sex scenes were awfully realistic and long; I would classify this film as a violent porn film.
For a straight person like me, it was an eye-opener--really intense stuff.
I felt like I took a peep into the world of gay sex.
The film was good, as an experience.
TOO STRANGE AND PRETENTIOUS.......2006-02-04
UNLIKE HUSTLER WHITE, WHICH WAS STRANGE BUT CAMPY
SKIN FLICK IS JUST PLANE WEIRD, POINTLESS, AND TRIES TO PASS OFF AS INTELLECTUAL, REVOLUTIONARY, AND INNOVATIVE....WHICH IS NOT
NO BIG LOSS IF YOU MISS THIS MOVIE.
Actually...it's really not all that bad........2006-01-04
Yes, this movie isn't for everyone. Anyone who knows Bruce LaBruce, knows these are the kind of movies he makes. You don't watch this particular film for its cinematography or stunning dialogue- frankly, you watch it for the porn. And if you have skinhead fetish, this will definitely satisfy it. It IS hardcore and rough, and I really did enjoy it (many times). It sounds like some of the people that reviewed this film were expecting something more "indie" or "low-budget" kind of movie. Well, it is indie and low-budget, but it's a porn movie, NOT a regular movie (though I think it is masked as one from the descriptions).
This is LaBruce's first hardcore porn aside from the other "softer" ones. There is one particular violence scene where the group of skinheads break into a salt-and-pepper couple's home and torture them. That did make my jaw drop thinking "can they really show that?" But then you realize what you're watching and not take it too seriously.
All in all, it was really campy, bad dialogue, bad acting, but fantastic looking men, and steamy scenes, with an actually decent soundtrack behind it. So, if you're into skinhead sex, this is for you.
Still amateurish after all this time..........2005-11-07
This isn't LaBruce's first film by any means, but he certainly hasn't learned anything along the way. A potentially interesting concept is ruined by laugh-aloud acting, purile dialogue, and absolutely no sense of pacing or development. The scenes of brutality are jaw-droppingly amateurish. These punks are supposed to be threatening? Good grief, I can get more rage out of my high school theater students. How this man manages to keep finding backers is the most intriguing thing about the 71-minute "film."

Red Dwarf is a fine cinematic experience about Lucien, a withdrawn man short in stature and longing for affection, who writes letters for parties in divorce cases for his law firm. This is a tragic position for Lucien, since he deems himself plagued in regards to affectionate relationships. One day he meets the acrobatic orphan Isis, who lives in a circus while also befriending Paola Bendoni, an important client for his law firm. Lucien initiates a love affair with Paola, but he is rejected as Paola is only interested in a lustful adventure. This is something new to Lucien and he finds himself lost in the swirl of emotions trailing the rejection. After having regained some self-esteem, he quits his job and pursues his fatherly care for the young acrobat. Red Dwarf is a tragedy that captivates the mind as the sorrow of Lucien is depicted on the silver screen, and it provides several lesson for the viewers to think about. Le Moine has also mixed a number of controversial issues into the film that will keep the viewers feeling a flow to the film and provide an opportunity for self scrutiny of beliefs.
sometimes the edge of sanity is where true greatness lies.......2003-10-28
dont believe what some of the other reviewers are saying this is truly one of the best films to deal with the hardships of being in a world that isnt suited for you. it is one of the bleakest yet poignantly executed studies of a man who is on the "edge" that i have ever seen. contrary to what some viewers are saying there is resolve in the end you just have to find it. at times it will make you laugh with its subtle humor and at others you will feel empathy and sadness. it is a perfect blend of comedy and tragedy with an ending that is very sublime but ends the film on a happy note. in short i would recommend this film to anyone who can deal with a film that isnt loaded with special effects and just relys on its ambience and characters to deliver a unique and enthralling cinematic experience. viva la liberati.

Left Me Wondering.......2002-08-12
...it does provide a fascinating often dark look at insanity on a more "human" scale. However, the entire movie's pace is shifted so frequently with no real resolve or storyline to it or to the scenes in which tension mounts, instead it jumps to another scene far different to the one which we previously saw, interesting yes, but after two viewings it still left me wondering what is this movie "really" about? Its done well, but utterly confusing as to what exactly the director was trying to get across.

according to reddwarf.com they will begin releasing the series in November. Plus the movie is in the works

Description
A pair of blue satin knickers provide the links between Elodie, a chic married woman and the owner of the said garment, and her eclectic assortment of friends and lovers. The knickers take us through Elodie's sexual escapades as she variously loans and loses them during the course of her amorous adventures. An excellent parody of bourgeois virtues. Features a cameo from acclaimed French director Claude Chabrol.

Billy Halop leads the pack with little tough guys........2004-02-20
It began with DEAD END (1937), The boys came from the Broadway play and landed their first starring role togther. After Dead End (1937), First National Pictures picked them up for CRIME SCHOOL (1938) and they made many more films for over 20 years until 1958. In 1938, Billy Halop brought along Huntz Hall, Gabriel Dell and Bernard Punsly in Little Tough Guy (1938). This spun off into another film series with a total of nine films for Universal from 1938-1943. They also made film serials for the new Universal: JUNIOR G-MEN (1940), SEA RAIDERS (1941) and JUNIOR G-MEN of the AIR (1942). In 1940, Leo Gorcey and Bobby Jordan bacame The East Side Kids for Monogram Pictures Corp. for 22 films from 1940-1945. Huntz Hall and Gabriel Dell would later join the new gang. Then in 1946, The East Side Kids bacame The Bowery Boys and made 48 more films from 1946-1958. Now back to Billy Halop and Bernard Punsly. They continued with The Dead End Kids with The Little Tough Guys film series until they both said goodbye in MUG TOWN (1943). Billy Halop continued a film and television career, but getting parts was hard. In between acting jobs, Halop was a chef, electric dryer saleman and in his final years was a male nurse. He played "Bert Munson" in he CBS tv series, "All in the Family" in 1972 and aired through 1977. In 1976, Billy Halop had a heart attack and passed away ending a 50-year career in show biz that started with radio in the 1920's. Bernard Punsly last film ever was MUG TOWN (1943). He became a gynocologist M.D. in Torrence ,California and recently passed away on January 20, 2004 as the last surviving Dead End Kid. Huntz Hall died January 30, 1999. Marjorie Main who was in DEAD END (1937) plays a role as Halop's mother in this film. She went on to do THE EGG AND I (1947) as "Ma Kettle" (which spawned into a new film series "Ma & Pa Kettle"). This film, Little Tough Guy is also David Gorcey's (Leo's younger brother) film debut.

Product Description
The only AUTHORIZED BIOGRAPHY of Mike The Headless Chicken! This is the outlandish (yet true) story of Miracle Mike who, in 1945, cleverly avoided becoming an entree during a misguided axe swing. Instead, this plucky bird survived 18 months -- without his head! Mike The Headless Chicken was featured in Life Magazine, Ripley's Believe It Or Not, and The Guinness Book of World Records. To this day, he continues to inspire, appall and amuse people around the world -- most notably at the annual Mike The Headless Chicken Days in Fruita, Colorado.
Customer Reviews:
Wierdest of the Wierd.......2006-04-14
Hilarious, and true. I wish this would happen today, so I could see it up close. Some of the film quality was grainy, but it was also of film clips that are 60 years old. Funny comic book style.
Most Unbelievable Thing I Have Ever Seen.......2006-01-25
I just watched this film and was inspired to immediately write about it. I would not believe this to be legit if I hadn't watched this film. I figured it was like most carnival side shows in the '40s....phony. But this proves it to be true.
The movie itself is very artsy yet very factual and in many places quite funny. The people from this little town of Fruita take this thing very seriously.
Definitely worth the money.
