I don't remember the whole story, she is sent to live with her grandmother and her her dog, killed them both. Fell in love with a teacher, killed a friend with the same tattoo. I saw this on TV.

Everyone keeps going on about how wonderful Rose McGowan is in this film. I thought maybe I would have a chance with the shower scene but no luck. Is there an unrated version of this film? Anyway the one to look at in this film is Sherrie Rose. She is stunning. Come on, why are you watching this movie? The bedroom scenes were great and well worth having to put up with a disappointing McGowan, as pretty as she may be.

This is a cool film. It's a dark story, not really horror, but it has the feel of a horror flick. Rose just plays this role really well. It's teen angst gone too far with a demented twist. And the film's main character gives it to the type of poeple most of us all dispise= hypocritical religous freaks, dumb blonds and jocks (But I hated the part when the main character kills her religous freak grandmother's dog). It's a film that is great to watch, with decent dialogue and acting. And the best thing about it? It stars ROSE MCGOWAN. 'nuff said!

This movie could best be described as being in the middle of a really bad movie and a really good movie. I think the difference is all in the film quality and lack of character development. There are no hollywood recipes for success here which makes it all the better.

Satoshi Kon's eerie fantasy grows darker and more disquieting as it progresses. All Tokyo is fixated on the seemingly random violence of Lil' Slugger. In episode 9, a group of gossipy housewives trades increasingly outrageous stories: Lil' Slugger brained a pitcher during a major league baseball game; he attacked a man on a desert island; he appeared in a pregnant woman's ultrasound. After swapping lies, one of the women is ecstatic to discover her husband has been beaten by the mysterious adolescent. Episode 8 reveals Kon's black sense of humor: An old man, a younger man, and an adolescent girl ineptly try to fulfill an online suicide pact. When they see Lil' Slugger at an inn, they eagerly pursue him. Kon loops back to the main narrative when violence strikes the studio that's animating Maromi, the cute little dog created by Tsukiko, the first victim. (Rated 16 and older: violence, tobacco and alcohol use) --Charles Solomon

Description

The continuing attacks leave a bloody mark upon society that reflects each social circle's inherent desires. Suicidal people see the Lil' Slugger as a savior to deliver them from life; bored housewives see him as the hot topic in the gossip circles. Unfortunately, to the distressed staff struggling to finish the animated TV show, Maromi the Dog, Lil' Slugger is the menace who has been striking them down, one at a time...

5 out of 5 stars Do you belive in evil?.......2006-07-24

A dark and twisted tale of greed and, yes, paranoia. This serise is better than any of an avalanch of flims I could name. If you're buying all these together I sugest you get the box-set. I would also sugest you look at background details. metaphor is not uncoman. The finaly of this story is by no means standard issue, if you look beyond the chaos.

3 out of 5 stars Geting Closer to the end.......2006-01-27

Paranoia agent is a series with an original concept and very different from anything you'll see out right now. My problem with it is that it seems people are holding back in not saying that there is case after case with people who have brutal encounters with Lil Slugger but when do you start to get closer to finding out why he is doing it and who he is. Maybe I missed an episode but from what I remember the detectives who are trying to figure this case out get close but never close this case and this is in almost every episode. It's a great series but they're not putting in the right elements to complete the series. You are given a little bit of a lead on Slugger but not enough.

5 out of 5 stars Opening Credits Do It All.......2005-08-23

`Paranoia Agent' defies most of conventional anime. No giant robots, big guns, or girls with blue hair. It takes place in present day Tokyo and revolves around the lives of everyday workers. It is also unique for being an anthology.

`Paranoia Agent' is not based around the conflict of heroes and villains. It depends mostly on style. The opening credits are arguably the most memorable in anime history. We see our many characters standing in the midst of a disaster, flood, fire, earthquake, nuclear bombing. However they are all laughing uncontrollably in an insane manner, as to make us think that these characters may have come to except the horror of their lives.

The plot: Unlike most anime series `Paranoia Agent' is an anthology, each episode seems to exist on its own, in that we are introduced to new characters whose stories begin and end with that episode, an anthology. The stories are all related in the sense that each of our characters lives in modern day Tokyo and is having trouble in life, generally work related. They all end up being attacked by boy in roller blades, Little Slugger.

The stories are very entertaining in a dark comedy way, from a sleazy reporter who owes money to the mob, a school girl by day and prostitute by night, an anime production team that's behind schedule, friends that keep failing in their many attempts to commit suicide. Little Slugger attacks them all.

As the show progresses, so does Little Slugger. It becomes quite obvious that he is super natural. It also becomes quite obvious that `Paranoia Agent' has absolutely no intention of wrapping things up or ever explaining the truth about Little Slugger or any of the bizarre events. And it doesn't.

I couldn't see this series going on any longer and it's nice they ended it after 13 episodes allowing us to remember it fondly.

`Paranoia Agent' works mostly because of its style. The animation and directing are great. It also works because of its very entertaining stories, as short as they might be.

5 out of 5 stars A disc of filler. But by God, it's brilliant!.......2005-03-11

The three episodes presented on this disc have very little to do with the characters we saw in volumes 1 and 2, but manage to be every bit as interesting, compelling, and sardonic as the first two volumes. This disc (but the second episode especially) shows how other people feel about Shonen Bat and how he's suddenly become a media phenomenon. Some people are trying to catch him, some want to be killed by him, and some just want to see him and have a good story to tell. The first episode is about three people (an old man, a middle-aged man, and a young girl) who meet in a chat room and enter a suicide pact. They attempt suicide in various ways but seem to be thwarted each time, but then decide to search for Shonen Bat to `save' them. This creepy and darkly humorous episode seems almost like a Takashi Miike film shot specifically to fit my taste. It never gets too over-the-top but manages to have some "Wow, you could never get away with this in America" moments. The second episode analyzes Shonen Bat as an urban legend/pop culture icon. Five women (including the young wife of a scriptwriter desperate to fit into the group) exchange increasingly improbable stories and rumors about Shonen Bat. To focus on characters we've never even seen for a one-shot episode in the middle of a series is one hell of a risk, but Satoshi Kon takes it and makes it a great episode for fans of urban legends and lore. The ending slaps you upside the head, but somehow doesn't feel forced. The third episode is about the animation process of your standard anime. A "Maromi" (that weird little plush dog) cartoon is being made for television by a small animation studio with an impatient staff. The staff is being picked off one by one by Shonen Bat, and the surviving animation team tries to meet the deadline at whatever cost. Maromi guides us as to who the staff members are and what their importance is, which gets us calm before everything goes very, very wrong. The animators must have loved doing this one, but must have been constantly looking over their shoulders. Imagine "The Player" as directed by David Lynch in an anime studio. Each episode is it's own story, which works shockingly well for this kind of show. My only fear now is that the final episodes won't be able to wrap everything up in time!

The suspense classic by Umberto Lenzi is finally here. A young man traveling the Virginia Beach coastline picks up hitchhiking women in his camper. He forces them to take on the role of his dead mother, and if they cannot, he tortures and rapes them

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Oedipus In A Winnebago.......2007-01-08

I don't like Italian horror movies as much as some others, but I had heard that this was a worthwhile effort from director Umberto Lenzi. Although the film did have some suspenseful scenes they were few and far between, and many of the plot "twists" let me thinking "yeah, right" (especially the scene where the evil rich kid with the motorhome takes it to a drive-in movie with his two chained and shackled victims in the back). Interestingly, I was very intrigued with the film being shown at the drive-in and had to wonder what on earth it was. If it was a real movie (which seems likely) and not a contrivance for this film, then the reactions of the crowd are completely inappropriate given the very, very poor quality of the clips seen. I actually found that quandary more interesting than the central plot of the film, which doesn't speak well of Lenzi's handiwork.

The film does have high points, notably Josie Bissett, who turns in a very credible performance (although the conclusion can be seen coming a mile away) and a couple of well crafted plot twists. The problem is that anytime a genuinely scary twist occurs, it has an unbelievable resolution (especially the "road block" scene which made me roll my eyes and groan audibly).

The movie would have been much improved if Lenzi had done two things: reduce running time by about 15 minutes (it is 90 minutes long, and includes a lot of extraneous filler, most of which involve very bad dancing at truck stops) and recast the role of the evildoer with anyone other than Joe Balogh, who is good at the empty-eyed stare of a genuine lunatic, and, unfortunately, nothing else. His performance irritated me more as the film progressed, and for watching such a "taut thriller" I found myself very bored, the worst possible condemnation of a film of this nature.

I decided on two stars overall: Bissett is very pretty and is very good in her role, but that is the only thing to recommend "Hitcher in the Dark."

4 out of 5 stars anyone for a ride.......2005-10-31

This is a campy killer. The dude picks up hitchhikers (babes of course) and teaches them a lesson of their life. It has some excitment and suspense that are very spooky. I personally liked the movie and makes me and my wife a special event every time we go camping. Take a look if you can find it well worth it.Lenzi is a far out and off the wall director that has done some pretty scary stuff.

1 out of 5 stars Yes, it's that bad........2004-01-30

Hitcher in the Dark (Umberto Lenzi, 1989)

Directed by Umberto Lenzi under the name Humphrey Humbert and produced by Joe D'Amato. I mean, come on, doesn't that just scream "Emmanuelle meets Cannibal Ferox" to you?

Keep screaming. It ain't even close.

A rich kid (Joe Balogh, who also worked with Lenzi in Black Demons) has his father's camper and is taking it down the coast. Along the way, he happens to be picking up hitchhikers and killing them. Until, that is, he meets Daniela (Josie Bissett in her screen debut) and becomes obsessed with her. Her boyfriend is following them, the cops are turning up bodies, and Daniela, of course, keeps spurning his advances...

By that synopsis, vague as it is, you may be wondering what all this has to do with the title. Nothing. It would have been like taking Henry V and calling it "Please Don't Eat the Daisies." Second, Joe Balogh may be the world's worst actor. (And even scarier, in the DVD extras, Lenzi says in an interview that Balogh was much more involved in his character here than he was in Black Demons-- THERE'S one to avoid!) His voice barely registers any emotion, and then only when he's angry. Bissett does well enough to have gotten her a career, but is the only highlight in the otherwise uniformly atrocious acting. The movie looks very dated, as well, from the hairstyles to the clothing to the godawfully cheesy music that wanted desperately to be a Goblin soundtrack. By the time you get to the two "bikers," you'll have already figured out this movie doesn't even rate as a cheesefest. Lenzi's carping that the production company changed the ending has nothing to do with the film's being bad. *

3 out of 5 stars Anybody read "The Collector"?.......2003-07-16

This interesting film is rather difficult to review. It tells the story of an RV driving serial killer who picks up unsuspecting women and who also has some serious issues concerning his mother. The acting of the male lead is rather poor and rarely demonstrates why anyone would actually want to enter this guy's RV, let alone be anywhere near him. This is the main problem as only the most unobservant person would think this individual is safe to get a ride from. That said, the film works on a tension level as the viewer truly wants to see the main female character find a way out of the situation. The film borrows rather freely from John Fowles novel "The Collector" with many scenes being lifted almost exactly. The DVD contains an interview with the director, Umberto Lenzi, in which, no mention of this connection is made. In all, "Hitcher in the Dark" is worth seeing if you are a fan of Italian Giallo, the director, or early eighties fashions as they are in full display here. The DVD presentation is acceptable with only very mild color saturation issues at one point. The extras include the director interview and three trailers. One warning; do not watch the director interview before the film as he explains why the ending is so dumb and how it had originally ended, which is much better.

1 out of 5 stars PSYCHOLOGICAL DOODOO.......2005-11-15

I saw Ripper I and don't remember a whole lot about it, so in going into RIPPER 2, I was a little leary about what to expect. If you haven't seen the first Ripper, this one will probably be confusing anyway. A different actress takes over the role of Molly and there's so much plot twisting and lack of cohesion that this movie is merely a dull waste of time. The trend of overabundant lesbian sex is once again used as padding and the murders are staged so haphazardly no terror is induced. The acting by all is really pretty bad. Let's hope we don't have a RIPPER 3, although its ambiguous ending suggests we might be burdened with it. This reviewer will not go for a third run though!
