The Stephen King Collection, a box set of four films, Graveyard Shift, The Dead Zone, Silver Bullet, and Pet Sematary, is great in that it provides viewers with a full range of King movies, from the truly eerie to the terrible. The set's two finest movies, The Dead Zone, directed by David Cronenberg and starring Christopher Walken, and Pet Sematary--arguably King's finest story adapted to film--both come as Special Collector's Editions, with excellent bonus material, including lengthy interviews with both Stephen King and the directors. Pet Sematary, shot in King's home territory, Maine, tells the story of city slickers Rachel and Louis Creed (Denise Crosby, Dale Midkiff), who move to the country to raise their daughter, Ellen, in peace. They learn that they've relocated onto a trucking thoroughfare, and Ellen consequently loses her pet cat. The plot quickly riffs out into mystical, traumatic territory. Louis's neighbor Jud Crandall takes Louis to ancient Indian burial grounds, where the dead are reanimated. The Creeds's zombie cat sparks this Frankenstein-ian adventure, pitting urban settings against rural, and the horrific against the pastoral. Pet Sematary looks more and more like Hitchcock, thanks to director Mary Lambert's careful attention to detail. The low point in the set is Graveyard Shift, a washed-up story about a cotton factory that's not only infested by carnivorous rats, but also hosts a dragon/pterodactyl. As night-shift employees get continuously munched, Bachman Mills' owner Mr. Warwick is forced to clean up squalid conditions, for which he hires a basement clean-up crew. Crew members are slaughtered as they try to combat their discovered behemoth, and grizzly scenes showing rats, humans, and the beast's head being chewed up in the cotton gin reduce Graveyard Shift to schlock gore. One is reminded of the intricacies involved in adapting books to film. As King has managed to be an integral part of his film projects, there are still successes and failures. All the movies in this set, though, still bear King's trademark, a love for "supernatural deadfall." --Trinie Dalton

Customer Reviews:
Good Collection of King Movies.......2007-03-19
Certainly, my opinion is subjective because I like this sort of fare, silly and all. "Graveyard Shift" is indeed the weakest one, made entertaining by the bad acting of all involved. "Pet Sematary" is also badly acted, though Fred Gwynne is on hand to save much of it. It's one of King's more mean-spirited plots, and if there was humor involved (as the extras purport), I missed most of it. "Silver Bullet" is an odd film, a rather sweet coming-of-age film with a twist. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. (Even Corey Haim was almost tolerable.) And, of course, the special edition of "The Dead Zone" stands way above the rest. Fine acting and direction help secure its place among the best King films. Save it for last...OK, some are silly and mindless, but I like most horror films for that very reason. This collection has the added benefit of a couple of winners. The widescreen transfer is excellent. The price is good. I recommend it...all 4 are true to King, inasmuch as they all take place in Maine.
Two five star movies, one four star movie, and one stinker........2006-10-10
I give five stars for The Dead Zone and Silver Bullet. I give four stars to Pet Semetary. Zero stars go to Graveyard Shift. All in all, it is a good set that is worth the price for three of the films. Just buy it for The Dead Zone, Silver Bullet, and Pet Semetary.

Even a man who is pure in heart,
And says his prayers by night,
May become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms
And the autumn moon is bright.
If you haven't heard this piece of horror-movie doggerel before, you'll never forget it after seeing The Wolf Man for two reasons: it's a spooky piece of rhyme and nearly everybody in the picture recites it at one time or another. Set in a fog-bound studio-built Wales, The Wolf Man tells the doom-laden tale of Lawrence Talbot (Lon Chaney Jr.), who returns to the estate of his wealthy father (Claude Rains). (Yes, Chaney's American, but the movie explains this, awkwardly.) Bitten by a werewolf, Talbot suffers the classic fate of the victims of lycanthropy: at the full moon, he turns into a werewolf, a transformation ingeniously devised by makeup maestro Jack Pierce. Pierce was the man who turned Boris Karloff into the Frankenstein monster, and his werewolf makeup became equally famous, with its canine snout and bushy hairdo--and, of course, seriously sharp dental work. The Wolf Man was a smash hit, giving Universal Pictures a new monster for their already crowded stable, and Chaney found himself following in the footsteps (or paw prints) of his father, who had essayed a monster or two in the silent era. This is a classy horror outing, with strong atmosphere and a thoughtful script by Curt Siodmak--well, except for the stiff romantic bits between Chaney and Evelyn Ankers. It's also got Bela Lugosi (briefly) and Maria Ouspenskaya, the prunelike Russian actress who foretells doom like nobody's business. --Robert Horton
Customer Reviews:
A Classic Horror Film.......2007-04-20
Made during the horror movie heyday of the late 1930s and early 1940s, this classic suspenseful thriller introduced audiences to one of the most well-known movie monsters; Lon Chaney Jr.'s "Wolf Man".
Chaney plays Larry Talbot, who is returning to his home in Wales after spending eighteen years in the United States. Larry's brother was recently killed in a hunting accident. Claude Rains stars as Larry's father, Sir John Talbot. Upon returning home, Larry helps his father install a new lens in his telescope. While peering through the lens, Larry discovers a beautiful girl in the window across the street. Her name is Gwen Conliffe (Evelyn Ankers). Larry goes over and introduces himself, and the two agree to go for a walk together that evening.
Gwen invites her friend Jenny Williams to come along. The three decide to go to have their fortunes told by a group of gypsies who have set up camp in town. Jenny goes first. Gypsy Bela (Bela Lugosi) reads Jenny's fortune. He is immediately disturbed when he sees the shape of a pentagram appear in Jenny's palm. He immediately tells Jenny to leave. Meanwhile, Gwen and Larry have walked off on their own. Minutes later, they hear a blood-curdling scream. Larry runs to investigate and finds a large wolf attacking Jenny. Larry manages to kill the wolf with his silver-handled cane, but he is bitten in the process.
Gypsy Maleva (Maria Ouspenskaya) tells Larry about the legend of the werewolf, and if a person is bitten by a werewolf and survives, they too will become a werewolf. Maleva gives Larry a charm to wear around his neck to protect himself, but he gives the charm to Gwen. On the night of the full moon, Maleva's predictions come true, as Larry Talbot is transformed into a werewolf. Will the charm protect Gwen, or will she suffer the same fate as her friend Jenny?
This movie has remained a classic for over sixty years, and it takes the viewer back to a time before the blood-and-guts horror films were popular, and movie producers relied on psychological terror to scare audiences. There is no blood in this movie, but the viewer is still scared by the unique movie sets, the fog rolling through the trees, and the haunting musical score. Lon Chaney Jr. made his role as the wolf man famous, and he's the only actor to have ever played the wolf man. Although the character was originally designed for Boris Karloff, Chaney made this his signature role. He will always be remembered as the wolf man. The other actors, especially Maria Ouspenskaya and Claude Rains, give good performances as well.
I give this movie my highest recommendation. This film takes me back to when I was a young child, and I used to stay up late on weekends watching the scary movies on television. Remember, "Even a man who is pure in heart and says his prayers by night, may become a wolf when the wolf bane blooms, and the autumn moon is bright".
an OK disappointment.......2007-01-19
for a so-called "classic horror movie" from 1939-41 era this one is definitely the least horrorific.
"Wolf, Gysy, Woman, Murder. What Is This?!".......2006-11-14
"Even a man who is pure of heart and says his prayers by night, may become a wolf when the wolf bane blooms and the autumn moon is bright."
Universal was famous for their horror films and "The Wolf Man" is one of their most entertaining. Foggy sets, a great cast and an atmospheric score from musical director Charles Previn offer late night fun for classic film fans.
Lon Chaney, son of one of the great actors of the silent film era, stars as Larry Talbot. He has come home after the tragic death of his older brother. Talbot Castle, where his father ( Claude Rains) still lives is surrounded by legends of men who turn into wolves at the full moon.
It seems like hog-wash to Larry, who sets his eye on pretty Evelyn Ankers (Gwen). Small romantic touches such as his spotting her through his telescope and immediately becoming smitten lighten the mood and make the events which follow an even deeper tragedy.
It isn't long before Gwen's gal pal is struck down in the woods by something no longer a man and no longer human. When Larry rushes to save her and is bitten in the process his fate is sealed.
Maria Ouspenskaya stands out as the knowing gypsy who forsees Larry's future and tries to help. Once he realizes the legends are true and no one is safe, he turns over the charm given him to Gwen for protection and puts the final touch on his sad destiny.
Curt Siodmak's original screenplay has just the right mix of romance and horror to make this one of the most famous and entertaining of Universal's horror films. Evelyn Ankers, who starred in many of Universal's horror and mystery films, looks lovely in Vera Ralston's gowns and makes the perfect heroine to Chaney's tortured character. This is as much fun as you can have on a rainy night with a big bowl of popcorn. Don't miss it!
The Definitive Werewolf Classic!.......2006-08-05
I can't praise this movie highly enough, it is not only the best of the universal monsters series and one of the greatest werewolf films ever made certainly the definitive treatment, but also one of my all time favourite movies. Lon Chaney turns in an outstanding credible performance worthy of his father the legendary man of a thousand faces, actually the entire cast is outstanding, Claude Rains, Maria Ouspenskaya and Bela Lugosi.
The script by Curt Siodmak is marvellous, borrowing from genuine werewolf folklore and adding its own. The plot device of having the werewolf see the pentagram on the palm of it's next victim is truly ingenious and I don't know why it was never utilised in any of the sequels or any other werewolf films for that matter.
The score by Frank Skinner and Han J Salter is so haunting, and has a nice rich romantic sound to it, especially the cues used in the gypsy camp, if only The Wolf Man weren't a b movie it probably would have won an Oscar.
Lastly it must be said that Jack Pierce's make up and John P Faulton's werewolf transformations really go along way in making this film, who could ever forget the image of the wolf man walking through the fog shrouded forest in search of fresh victims.
The Mother of All Werewolf Movies!.......2006-03-15
Okay, so Universal Studios' 1941 classic, "The Wolf Man," wasn't the first werewolf film ever made. It is still, by far, the most widely known and loved. I mean, what werewolf is more iconic than the one Lon Chaney Jr. made famous?
The story begins with a look at an encyclopedia definition of "Lycanthropy" (werewolfism), making reference to the English village and Talbot Castle that are the settings of the film. We then meet young Larry Talbot, played by Lon Chaney Jr., being driven by a chauffer to his family home, Talbot Castle. Larry has returned, after living in America for many years, to take over the family estate after his older brother was killed in a hunting accident. We learn all this when Larry arrives and is greeted by his father, Sir John Talbot, played by the wonderful Claude Rains. Sir John is an amiable fellow, but still a bit stiff and stuck on propriety. Larry is a laid-back, American-style, "average Joe" type. It's clear that he left Talbot Castle due to the friction caused by being the younger son, second in-line for everything, but he is happy to be back and among family and friends.
Father and son happily agree to put the past behind them and settle Larry into his birthright together, and we soon find Larry and John in the observatory, where Larry works to install a new piece onto Sir John's telescope. Impressed by Larry's skill with his hands, Sir John leaves him alone to finish up. Big mistake! You can't leave Larry alone with a telescope! Larry is the Wolf-Man, after all! Ha, seriously. First thing Larry does is "accidentally" aim it at a bedroom in the nearby village, one just above Charles Conliffe's antique shop. Through the window, he discovers Conliffe's daughter, Gwen, played by the lovely Evelyn Ankers, putting on earrings as she finishes dressing. Naturally, being the wolf that he is, Larry hotfoots it over to the antique shop, and who could blame him? Gwen IS a hottie. If you think the waifish actresses we have nowadays are hot, get a load of 1940s dames! Anyway, Larry arrives and commences to put the moves on Gwen. He decides he is in the market for an antique walking stick. Gwen pokes fun at Larry, saying the dog-handled cane would suit him best, but he settles on a can with a silver, wolf's head handle instead. The handle also features a wolf inside a pentagram, which sparks Larry's curiosity. Gwen proceeds to give Larry a quick lesson on werewolves, as he has no idea what they are. She informs him that the pentagram is the mark of the werewolf, and that he sees it in the palm of his next victim's hand. At the heart of her brief tutorial is the first recitation of the film's legendary poem, "Even a man who is pure in heart and says his prayers by night, may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms and the autumn moon is bright." Larry gets a kick out of the cane's side-story and decides to purchase it. He also makes a date to take Gwen out later that evening at eight, though she insists she cannot go out with him. As Larry exits and Gwen follows, the two see a gypsy cart traveling down the street. Larry suggests that they make their date a visit to the gypsy camp for a fortune reading, though Gwen continues to insist that she will not be coming along. Later on, Larry relays the day's events to his father, Sir John, who is happy to hear that his son is taking an interest in the townsfolk, and who also seems to know the little poem about werewolves that Gwen recited earlier. Werewolves are very popular around Talbot Castle!
8 o'clock comes around, as it always does, and Larry shows up outside the antique shop for his would-be date. Gwen is there too, waiting for him, though she still insists that she can't go. Sure, that's why she brought a chaperone along. Oh, yes, she brought a friend to make sure there was no funny business. You know how hot girls usually have unattractive best-friends around to ruin everything? Well, Gwen Conliffe has Jenny Williams. The three set off together, laughing about the situation as if they were off to see the wizard. As they walk through the eerie woods, Jenny brings up the old werewolf poem again. Clearly, the girls in this village have a werewolf fetish...hmm... When they find the old gypsy cart, Jenny asks to be the first, and Larry and Gwen are only too happy to allow it. Inside, the mysterious and off-putting Bela (the legendary Bela Lugosi) begins to read Jenny's fortune, but clearly he is having health problems. Jenny is disturbed when she notices the pentagram shaped scar on Bela's forehead. Meanwhile, outside and already a distance away, Gwen enlightens Larry as to why she has been so resistant to him. It seems that she is already engaged to the Talbot Estate's gamekeeper, Frank Andrews. Well, this doesn't stop the two from giving each other goo-goo eyes, but they are interrupted when a panicked Jenny sends out a scream in the night as she is attacked by a wolf while fleeing Bela's gypsy cart. Larry rushes to Jenny's aid but is too late to save her. He does, however, manage to kill the wolf that attacked her by beating it to death with the silver handle of his cane. Unfortunately, not before being bitten by the beast himself!
And that's just the half of it! "Whoever is bitten by a werewolf and lives, becomes a werewolf himself!"
A masterpiece and one of the classic "big three" of Universal horror, "The Wolf Man" is a must see film! Half hero, half villain, Lon Chaney Jr. turns in a performance to make his poppa proud! The makeup effects and attention to detail are phenomenal too. The Wolf Man even walks with his heels off the ground! Sure, he's fully dressed (minus shoes and socks), but he still strikes a more imposing figure than you might think! That face is totally wild! There's great chemistry between Lon and the lovely Evelyn Ankers, and the writing throughout the film is pure poetry. Claude Rains and Maria Ouspenskaya are unforgettable in their supporting roles too! A triumph in mood and style, an achievement of paranoia and fear, a study on dual identity and primitive instincts, a film that has inspired countless werewolf films since and several sequels of its own, "The Wolf Man" is still one of the best werewolf films ever made, and it's 65 years old! Props to Universal Studios and director George Waggner for that enormous achievement! Available on DVD in various forms and on VHS, I recommend the "Wolf Man Legacy Collection" 2-disc DVD set to the real werewolf fanatics out there. It also includes the sequel, "Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man," along with "Werewolf of London," "She-Wolf of London," and a handful of fun bonus features. However, if you just want to see the original Universal Studios/Lon Chaney, Jr. classic, look no further! Pick this edition up today! You'll be glad you did! It's great for repeat midnight viewings!

This comedy is based on Dan Jenkins's novel about two good-old-boy pro football players (Burt Reynolds and Kris Kristofferson). Best friends on the field and off, they're also friendly competitors in the arena of love for the same woman (Jill Clayburgh), who happens to be the daughter of their team's owner. Directed by Michael Ritchie, who was something of a poet of films about competition in the 1970s and early 1980s, this movie has a certain shaggy charm, abetted by Reynolds's knowing way with a one-liner. If Semi-Tough doesn't seem to go much of anywhere, it still has a good time getting there. The best moment is a send-up of an est-like self-actualization program, with the late Bert Convy as a wonderfully smarmy stand-in for Werner Erhard. --Marshall Fine

Don't Miss.......2007-06-20
First off, the movie is different from the Dan Jenkins novel. It is far more textured and layered. The send-up of Est training is hilarious. This is not so much a movie about football as it is a love story with a strong subtext satirizing self-help movements (including Pyramid Power). The dialogue is memorable and Preston's performance would have garnered an academy award if the movie had been perceived as serious and weighty. It IS serious and weighty, but it is done with a light, humorous touch. I have watched this movie at least 20 times and never tire of it. The reason: the performances, of course, but the one-liners are priceless. This is the best introduction to the pantheon of Jenkins characters populating his Ft. Worth-centered novels, with a young Brian Dennehy doing a star turn as T. J. Lambert. If you don't know the novels, you've got a great set of treats ahead of you. In this case the movie is better than the book. Baja Oklahoma was also made into a movie--worth seeing, but not quite as good as the book.
Semi Tough.......2007-02-11
Burt Reynolds in one of his better films. A bit more serious than all his Smokey & the Bandit films. Perhaps an honest portrayal of his difficulty with his relationships. Was worth seeing again after all these years.
Good Book, Bad Movie.......2007-02-06
Do yourself a favor, read the book. It is so much better than this nonsense.
Semi-Good. .......2006-07-25
Semi-Tough is one of the few football movies I never got around to seeing until the other day and I am sorry I waited. It is a humorous, energetic send-up of football, celebrities, and post-sixties New Age mumbo-jumbo. As for what another reviewer said about Jill Clayburgh, I have to agree, she's completely miscast here, but that's my only acting criticism. I think Reynolds is outstanding in this role and really stands out. He is compelling and believable as Billy Clyde Puckett and his presence basically carries the film. What I found most unique and valuable here, however, was the satire involving Friedrich Bismark and BEAT--which was a paper-thin roast of Werner Erhard and EST. It is rather courageous that this movie decided to tangle with those parasites in the way they did, but it remains a rare example of Hollywood using its special position in society to advance the public good. There are other inventive parodies here as well such as the owner's devotion to "moveogenics," and Reynolds having to get "pelted" by a quack doctor. On the whole, Semi-Tough is a good bit of fun and also has something to say to its audience.
Semi Entertaining.......2006-03-18
Burt Reynolds and Kris Kristofferson play professional football players who live together. They have been friends all their lives. They live together, platonically, with Jill Clayburgh, another lifetime friend and daughter of the team's owner. They are all great buddies and hopelessly irresponsible party animals of varying degrees. Things seem to be fine until Kristofferson and Clayburgh decide to get married. At that point, Reynolds realizes that he has had a lifelong crush on her and schemes how to get her without loosing his friends in the process.
He is aided by Kristofferson being the disciple of a New Age guru type who makes million trying to get "IT". The problem most people seem to have with getting it is that "IT" is undefined and doesn't mean anything. Kristofferson wants his fiancé to get "IT" but she doesn't get it. Reynolds pretends he does but really knows it is all a crock. He uses his knowledge of their personalities to maneuver things the way he wants.
The sports scenes are minor and forgettable. The emphasis is on the comedy. Unfortunately, the comedy is forgettable as well. It is also dated and the whole productions screams "70s". It's not a bad show but neither is it worth repeating more than every few decades.

the way some familys are these days.......2007-01-12
This could happen to many family's these days as there are more and more multi parent familys
Really Good!.......2006-09-10
I just finished watching this movie on ABC Family:
It's really good! I didn't even realize that Sam was Ben Savage!
Kinda weird, because i love Boy Meets World!
Definitely watch this movie! It reminds me of Tune In Anytime by Caroline B. Cooney.
A Meaningful Sojourn.......2004-06-10
In this engaging serio-comedy, an intelligent-looking Hillary Wolf plays 13-year-old Laura Chartoff, the frustrated daughter of two self-absorbed much-married parents (Griffin Dunne and Margaret Whitton) who currently resides with her mother, stepfather(David Straithairn), and half-siblings,the military school student, Kurt, child prodigy Sam, and the overindulged beauty queen, Corrine (Trenton Tigen, Ben Savage, and Jenny Lewis) in a Beverly Hills mansion.
The story begins with Laura introducing her family situation via home video and narration of the events depicted in the video, and then deals with Laura's daily home situation, in which she laments the loss of her father's companionship. Currently, her artist father lives with his spacey girlfriend(Adrienne Shelley)who is pregnant with his twins, after being kicked out of the house for his affair by his schoolteacher wife, Barbara (Patrica Kalember) with whom he has a beautiful redhaired three-year-old(Jessica Seeley) who, like Laura, has also learned not to rely on him.
While Laura's mother and stepfather are out one evening, she gets a welcome respite from her lonely situation by the return of her estranged stepbrother Josh (Dan Futterman), with whom she'd had a good relationship. A series of incidents resulting from Josh's return leads to the breakage of Mrs. Powers' good china, and Laura's being blamed for it.
Hurt and sent over the edge, Laura decides to run off with Josh, who finds her in the back of his pick-up truck the next day.
The action then moves to the beautiful Yosemite Valley where Josh works at a camp resort. When the Powers family, who are irritated by Laura's waylaying their trip to Hawaii by her behavior, arrive at the camp to bring her home, Laura feels that Josh has reneged on his promise not to call her stepfather, and runs away again. Summoned by young Sam, David Chartoff and Shelley, arrive as well, as do Barbara and little Jessie. The decision to stay and find Laura is made only because the boy-crazy and shallow Corrine sees a hunk emerging from the lake and is prompted to make a phony speech about not abandoning her in her hour of need.
As the family gradually learn to put aside their differences for the sake of finding Laura, and seek the help of a seen-it-all before Sherriff and his ditzy assistant, Laura encounters a large conventional family, led by Josh Mostel. She spends time with them, but I found her glib attitude towards them to be a realistic one, taken by many children of divorced parents, and was glad to see a movie that dealt with that.
The trip to Yosemite turns out to be more meaningful than any planned trip to Hawaii would have been because the adults learn to resolve their long-held grievances, and decisions about whether or not to end certain relationships are made. As they wait for Laura, who encounters a group of hoodlums and displays her own tough side as a result of that encounter, relationships between the parents and children strenghthen. Along the way the snotty Corrine is humbled as well.
After an incident that finally brings her to tears, Laura returns to Josh's cabin to find something very special and priceless waiting for her, and she is finally given the answers about her family history that she had yearned for.In running away, she has brought her estranged family together, and she learns to value them as much as they do her.
Insist Upon Yourself.......2001-12-31
It's a shame that Hillary Wolf gave up acting for Judo because she is such a spectacular actress, but Hollywood can be rough and I can't help but understand.
This movie hit's close to home for those with or without a step family. You can relate to Laura Chartoff (Hillary) on some level in any part of the movie. Whether it's after her step sister Corrine (Jenny Lewis) states that she is "So drab" and she looks in the mirror and says "My body just hangs there like a boy, not even a good-looking boy. I wouldn't go out with a boy that looked like me that's the sad thing." or the way her step father Keith (David Strathairn) blames her for everything that goes wrong. There is also her father (The great actor and director Griffin Dunne) who has been married more times then he can soberly remember, his last wife (Patricia Kalember from "Sisters") left him with his three year old daughter Jessie (Jessica Seely) because he had an affair where the girl(Adrienne Shelley) became pregnant with twins or her mother (Margaret Whitton) who now treats Corrine like her real daughter in effect neglecting her REAL daughter in the process. Laura also has a half brother brainiac Sam (Ben Savage way before "Boy Meets World")
After being blamed for her stepbrothers breaking of her mothers China Laura runs away with her other stepbrother, whom she thinks of as her real brother and who has left the family he despises, Josh (Dan Futterman)to the mountains the day before the rest of the family is scheduled to go to Hawaii. This causes the entire family, stepmothers brothers and all to come together in the mountains to search for the run away who eventually runs away from Josh after he called her mother and stepfather on her.
Laura finds herself on her own forcing the rest of her family to stay together in one small cabin while the police look for the missing girl, which in effect causes the estranged family members to grow closer and learn to love one another again. Being on her own Laura discovers who she is and that she really does need all whacky members of her family.
This movie is good for families and more and I highly recommend it to anyone who thinks their family is dysfunctional; which is practically every family on the planet.
eleven year olds opinion.......2001-04-01
Big girls don't cry is a grate movie that I can relate to.my family is sorta like that. EXCELLENT FAMILY MOVIE.......2002-03-06
With one exception - youngsters should be warned that wolves are wild animals --
This is a great family movie -- A troubled teen, who just lost his father, is exposed to the great outdoors and given a new outlook on life.
His uncle is in charge of the wildlife and helps his nephew to understand wolves [in cattle country] The cattlemen's association is definitely against the wolves being turned loose in their territory.
There are some great shots of snowboarding and the use of dog pulling on skis etc., that is very neat.
Would liked to have found out more about the animals used in the movie -- but the scenary, the characters and the shots were great.
Definitely recommend this as a great movie for all to see.

Death By Puppet..........2006-07-12
ROGUE'S TAVERN is an Old Dark House-type murder mystery set in an inn. Wallace Ford (One Frightened Night) plays a department store detective who just happens to be at the Red Rock Inn w/ his fiancee (Barbara Pepper) when the murders begin. At first, we're led to believe that a mad dog is the culprit, but we soon find out that all of the guests have been summoned to this place in order to be done in! Ford isn't bad as a fairly reserved, level-headed guy, unlike his usual goofball roles. Pepper is pretty good in her sleuthing role as well. RT would make a nice addition to your next "who-done-it?" marathon...
"You frisk the ladies.".......2005-04-02
In the film "Rogue's Tavern" detective Jimmy Kelly (Wallace Ford) and store detective Marjorie Burns (Barbara Pepper) run off to get married and plan to call a Justice of the Peace to perform the ceremony at the Red Rock Tavern. When Jimmy tries to reserve a room, he is told that the inn is fully booked, so he decides to wait there with his fiancee until the Justice of the Peace shows up. A group of people--several men and one woman are staying at the tavern. They've all been summoned to the inn by mysterious requests. Within a short period of time, the first corpse shows up. A savage animal bite appears to be the cause of death. The body count rises, the phone lines are dead, and the visitors discover that they are trapped inside the inn with no way to escape.
"Rogue's Tavern" fits the old formula of the classic murder mystery--a remote, spooky location, and summoned guests who are promptly bumped off one-by-one. The film seems to be a direct descendant of Victorian melodrama, with bad over-acting, cheaply constructed sets, maniacal laughter from the villain, dreadful special effects, and one of the most pathetic death scenes I've ever seen. However, there's a nice dynamic between Jimmy and his fiancee, and the murders are impossible to solve until the final denouement. This black and white Alpha DVD of the 1936 film was fairly decent quality--displacedhuman

Thought it would be better............2005-05-01
I have read about this movie in lots of reviews, with people saying how sick and twisted it is. Well, they were WRONG. What this movie is , is a sad attempt to be a sick , twisted psycological thriller. Many of the scenes dont make any sense. He jumps from one topic to another leaving you saying what does this part or the dialogue have anything to do with the movie. The killings are absolutley horrible and totally unrealistic. It also has me wonder how he finds a couple of the people that he killed. The acting was absolutley horrible and not even " B-Movie " acting just way worse. So please dont buy this movie or rent it, if you know some one who has it borrow it and thats it. I know I will never watch it again, it was that bad. Also
Im not one to complain about " b-movies". I have 2 flicks buy Hershell Gordon Lewis " Gore Gore Girls" and " Two Thousand Maniacs", also have 4 movies by Troma Video " Toxic Avenger ", " Tromeo and JUliet", " Blood Sucking Freaks " and the one disc edition with " Garden of the dead, Unspeakable and Buttcrack " all on one DVD . So yes , I am a big fan of 70's and 80's horror and love a good B -flick but this one is being unspeakable is just down right garbage. Maybe with more money better actors and better director this movie could have been good. cause the idea behind it is excellent.
Not the Howard McCain movie (i.e. not with Athena Massey).......2004-11-19
For some reason Amazon has mixed this up with the 1996 film "Unspeakable" aka "Criminal Pursuit" aka "Shadow of a Scream" (latter is the title of the VHS version that Amazon apparently DOES carry). This one's a totally different Troma slasher film.
so sick.......2004-11-05
but so good. I borrowed it from a friend...I don't think I would pay for it, because I don't see myself ever watching it again because it was pretty twisted.
But, yeah, it was good, especially for a Troma release.
pretty lame.......2004-05-10
Chad Ferrin wanted to shock his audience. He did not succeed. He did make a very sleazy picture, but it does not shock. Why not? Because he makes the mistake of trying to dIsguise his shlock-fest as some sort of psychological thriller and he is simply not up to the task. This film takes itself very seriously. However, the script is bad, the acting is worse, and the idea is only partially realized. I have no idea what in the world our anti-hero is thinking. The result is hokey melodrama of the worst sort.
The story is very simple. A man loses his daughter (whom he was molesting) in a car accident that also makes a vegetable of his wife. He is driven insane with loss and guilt and decides to kill people. Some of them deserve it, like the sicko nurse who takes care of his invalid wife, and some do not, like the bright-eyed prostitute who gets her face smashed into a table until there isn't much left of it. The guy playing the lead should never be allowed to act in any venue ever again. He is horrible.
This movie is just about filth and violence - which is fine, as long as it is honest about it. I like dark films. I like low budget films. But this film just don't cut it.
There are effective scenes; mostly the violent ones. But these scenes are only effective in the moment. Contextually, they are simply random acts of violence.
If you really like sleaze, go ahead and purchase it because you won't find it at many video rental stores and it's pretty cheap here. Just understand that you are buying PRETENTIOUS sleaze.
The best part of this flick are the flashbacks of the daughter who is supposed to be around twelve, but looks about thirty-five. Priceless!
Just plain pure crap..........2004-05-02
I am upset, cause I posted a comment on this film LONG AGO and it was NEVER POSTED. Was it perhaps because I wrote a bad review? Was it perhaps that it may have detracted people from purchasing this film? Well, guess what? I'm here to say ONCE AGAIN that UNSPEAKABLE is possibly the worst film EVER MADE. And if it's any consolation, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME. I did, and I want my time and money back! Though, one positive note, the extras are decent, and I must say, the director's short film was decent also. But to hell with it, the rest of it belongs in a toilet that hasn't been flushed in months. PERIOD.
