In his most effective thriller since Enemy of the State, Tony Scott makes time travel seem plausible. It helps that his New Orleans hero, ATF agent Doug Carlin (Denzel Washington in his third go-round with the director), spends more time in the present than the past. In order to catch a terrorist, FBI Agent Pryzwarra (Val Kilmer) invites Carlin to join forces. They have the technology to see the past. He has the expertise to interpret the data. Unfortunately, the bomb has already gone off and hundreds of ferry passengers have died. Then there's the body of a beautiful woman, Claire Kuchever (Paula Patton, Idlewild), that turns up in the vicinity of the blast. Evidence indicates she was killed beforehand. Since the FBI enables him to observe Claire prior to her murder, Carlin gets to know what she was like and finds himself falling in love. He becomes convinced that the only way to solve the case--and prove her innocence--is to travel to the past. But as Pryzwarra's colleague, Denny (Adam Goldberg), argues, "You cannot go back in time. It's physically impossible." Or so he says. Déjà Vu is constructed around a clever script and executed by a top-notch cast, notably Washington, Patton, and an eerie Jim Caviezel (miles away from Passion of the Christ). In shedding the excesses of recent years--the sadism of Man on Fire and weirdness of Tarantino favorite Domino--Scott re-affirms his rep as one of the action movie's finest practitioners. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Talk about Deja Vu.......2007-07-06
I feel like this movie has been made before, hence the name. Can you say unoriginal??
It's stuff like this that makes me not want to take the wife and rugrats to the cinema anymore?
I Need Her To Matter To You" ~ We Can't Change The Past, Or Can We?.......2007-07-05
`Déjà vu' released in '05 stars some of my favorite male stars active today; Denzel Washington, Val Kilmer and James Caviezel. Add to the rooster the talented Adam Goldberg and the devastatingly attractive Paula Patton and you've got all the necessary ingredients necessary to provide a truly great viewing experience. However even with a cast of that caliber the film doesn't quite deliver all the potential it could have.
Time travel movies are always popular but could be a little tricky at times. I think the script handles the scientific explanation of time travel and warping space surprising well but some sequences are a little to unrealistic at times and you can only ask an audience to suspend reality for only so long. I also found the ending to make no sense whatsoever so that definitely is a minus. On the positive side, the romantic angle works wonderfully and Denzel Washington's love interest Paula Patton is drop dead gorgeous. `Déjà vu' combines the futuristic vision of `Minority Report' (`02) with the romantic longing of the '44 classic `Laura'. Not too bad a combination don't you think?
Repeatability Factor: Well worth at least one viewing but that's about it unless you're watching just to see Paula again.
A movie worth watching!.......2007-06-29
Deja Vu brings to the screen the story of an ATF agent as he tries to find those responsible for detonating a bomb aboard a riverboat in New Orleans killing hundreds of people. The investigation will lead to some unexpected discoveries including one that would blow most peoples' minds in a heartbeat...
There are slight hints of the X-Files, and strong elements of Timecop (Jean Claude Van Damme), Frequency (Dennis Quaid, James Caviezel), and The Lake House (Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock).
Denzel Washington, Paula Patton, and the rest of the cast, have truly outdone themselves with their performances, which are outstanding to say the least! All the actors, without exceptions, give it their 100% and it really shows (the chemistry is AMAZING)! Very well written and very well presented, the movie is without a doubt guaranteed to provide more than just a few thrills, not to mention a few tears.
The setting, the plot, the dialogues, and the music are all wonderful!
In conclusion, Deja Vu is a movie definitely worth watching and one to seriously consider adding to your movie collection as it is one of those films that gets you and keeps you thinking long after it's over. 4.5 Stars
Captivating Movie From Star To Finish!.......2007-06-29
Wasn't quite sure what to expect when I rented this movie.... It was a lot better than I anticipated as I thought it would be some cheesy suspense movie, but it wasn't.
It was a combination action/suspense, science-fiction, time travel, and a bit of romance thrown in at the end kind of movie. The acting was superb as well as the storyline.... With the created/fabricated technology and time travel used in movie, I wasn't sure how it all was going to fit together! But everything worked itself into a neat tightly fit package by the end of the movie.
A pretty interesting take on reaching back into the past to investigate the present.......2007-06-20
Denzel Washington always makes me want to believe in any movie he is in. Here he plays ATF agent Doug Carlin who is brought in to investigate a ferry bombing that killed more than 500 people. Some odd details start bothering him including the body of Caire Kuchever (played very well by the beautiful Paula Patton). At first she looks like another victim of the blast on the ferry, but Agent Carlin notices some things that don't match up.
Agent Pryzwarra (a nicely done turn by Val Kilmer) brings Carlin into a special investigative unit that has a special tool to view a stream from the past. I can't get into details of this team or much more of the movie because unraveling it is part of the fun of the film. You know from the title of the film that it has something to do with reliving the past, but how this film does it is pretty fresh. There is one very cool car chase that includes trying to drive in the present to keep in view the villain in a car from the past and is something I hadn't seen before.
Yes, there are things in the plot that require artificial limits on things and require the cast to say and not say or do or not do things that would make things much more mundane and realistic, but still, as a romantic thriller, it is a pretty good entertainment. And they do pull things together more neatly than one might expect from the early scenes.
So, enjoy the film. It is a pretty good way to have some fun.

Just as the castaways were left to languish on Gilligan's Island, so, too, did cancellation deprive fans of seeing Col. Hogan (Bob Crane) and company finally liberated from Stalag 13. But at least this controversial series (again; it's a P.O.W., and not a concentration, camp!) went out literally with a bang, another successful act of sabotage of Nazi operations. The sixth season brought a new face to the barracks, Kenneth Washington as Sgt. Baker, replacing (without explanation) Ivan Dixon's "Kinch." Happily, some of the series' most entertaining recurring characters put in final appearances. Bernard Fox, as the hapless Col. Crittendon, enjoys his finest hour in the two-parter "Lady Chitterly's Lover," in which he must impersonate a look-alike British traitor, and Kathleen Freeman, as the dread Gertrude Berkhalter, upsets Hogan's plans to sneak a downed U.S. general out of camp in "Kommandant Gertrude." John Banner, as Sgt. Schultz, has one of his best episodes in "Kommandant Schultz," in which power goes to the cuddly buffoon's head when he is put in command of Stalag 13.
But mostly this season is business as usual, with Hogan and his men--Newkirk (Richard Dawson), LeBeau (Robert Clary) and Carter (Larry Hovis)--smuggling, hijacking, stealing, and otherwise disrupting the German war effort under the nose of clueless Col. Klink (Werner Klemperer, an Emmy nominee for this season). One standout episode is "Eight O'Clock and All Is Well," with guest star Monte Markham as a new prisoner with impeccable credentials whom Hogan discovers is actually a Gestapo spy. And in the episode "Look at the Pretty Snowflakes," Crane gets to demonstrate his virtuoso drumming as he attempts to cause an avalanche. Between the "krauts, lice, stinking food and bloody awful weather," life in Stalag 13 was no picnic. But, as Hogan tries to convince LeBeau not to return to France in the episode "Cuisine a la Stalag 13," let us not forget "all the fun... all the laughs." That is Hogan's Heroes' final legacy. --Donald Liebenson
Product Description
The inmates of a German World War II Prisoners of War camp conduct espionage and sabotage campaign right under the noses of their warders. While the enemy is often gullible, easily fooled or downright incompetent - the real strength of Hogan's men are the elaborate ruses and sometimes dangerous lengths they will go to complete their mission.

May they live forever in re-runs.......2007-07-05
The show has been over for years; however they still live on in the hearts and minds of the fans. And their image remains on DVD for future generations. For me I first watched these episodes as a re-run when my Dad watched them on TV. We even had a dog names after the famous Sgt. Schultz.
The Hogan's Heroes episodes look better then ever in these DVD's. After years in re-runs I was amazed at the color and quality of these episodes. Too bad the series was canceled to make more money as a re-run, back in it's day they would not produce shows and show them in re-runs. They could only show re-runs of canceled shows and Hogan's Heroes would fetch more money as a re-run, so the series ended or so my Hogan's Heroes : Behind the Scenes at Stalag 13!guide states.
I now have the complete set of Every HH episodes ever made thanks to this "Hogan's Heroes - The Sixth & Final Season". Every season is full of laughs as the gang outwits the Germans. Any fan of the series will enjoy this DVD and it will complete your collection.
enjoyed watching.......2007-07-03
I really enjoyed watching the shows. I wish that they had some better extras like other scenes and outtakes, otherwise great show!
Great Gift.......2007-06-28
I'm not a huge fan of this series but my parents and sister are. They purchase the entire series and watch it over and over again. I think the actors are very funny, but the humor doesn't 'click' with me. Still, I like Schultz and some of his lines, and I'm so pleased they found something they enjoy so much. 5 stars.
Great Classic Commedy Series.......2007-06-20
This is one of my favorite Classic Commedy series from the 1960s/early 70s.
Probably seasons 2,3, and 4 were the best. They were hitting their stride in Season 2 and starting to wear a little thin towards the end of season 4. Season six is still fun to watch. If you just want a taste of the series, buy some of the earlier boxes first.
Well worth the purchase -- an outstanding final season.......2007-06-17
The Sixth & final season of HH gets some bad reviews -- many have said that the series really ran one or two seasons too long. Somewhat to the contrary, this season has some of the series' finest moments. While the absence of Ivan Dixon (Kinchloe) is certainly noticable, highlights include the 2-part "Lady Chitterly's Lover," "Operation Tiger" with a stellar performance by the great Frank Marth, "Easy Come, Easy Go," which sees Col. Klink take a trip to London, and "Look at the Pretty Snowflakes" with its memorable jam session. Standing head and shoulders above the rest, however, is "The Meister Spy," which is nothing short of absolute dramatic and comedic brilliance jammed into 25 fast-paced, intense minutes. That episode alone is worth the purchase of the series.
There are, of course, other fine moments, too numerous to mention. Far from being, as some would say, a desperate attempt by the producers to keep the series interesting, the sixth season includes some rather innovative plotlines and unusual twists, unique to this season alone. The only thing missing -- other than Kinchloe -- is the absence of a true "Series Finale," an omission for which true Hoganologists will never forgive. But, as Hogan says to close out the series, "Frankly, General, I thought it was a lousy neighborhood anyway."

Thanks (but no thanks) to Full Metal Jacket, the name of "Gomer Pyle" is associated with a demented, suicidal screw-up. That's not the Gomer (Jim Nabors) we know and love! Sure, our Gomer may be, in the mentoring words of his bellowing Sgt. Carter (Frank Sutton), a "lunkhead," "yo-yo," "knucklehead," and "meatball," who invariably "pulls some beauts." But his heart is always in the right place, as in the episode "PFC Gomer Pyle," in which the newly promoted Private First Class unwittingly cancels Carter's Hawaiian furlough thinking it is a request for a permanent transfer. Our Gomer is unfailingly honest. In "Gomer and the Phone Company," he is arrested for trying to put back ill-gotten money he received from a malfunctioning pay phone. And, our Gomer is forthright, as in "Gomer and the Beast," in which he stands up to a feared, abusive sergeant (guest star Michael Conrad) who takes his waitress girlfriend for granted.
Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C., a spinoff of The Andy Griffith Show, was one of the "surprise, surprise, surprise" hits of its day. In this second season (its first in color), it ranked second to Bonanza in the Nielsen ratings. That Nabors and Sutton were never even nominated for Emmys is a TV Land injustice. Nabors, especially, finds new music in what could have been a one-note bumpkin character (he even demonstrates his unexpected baritone singing voice in "Arrivederci, Gomer"). Providing expert support are Ted Bessell (That Girl) and Ronnie Schell (who demonstrates his standup comedy chops in "Duke Slater, Nightclub Comic") as Gomer's Marine buddies. Look sharp for two future M*A*S*H stars, Jamie Farr in "Gomer Pyle, P.O.W." and, in a couple of episodes, William Christopher. Making welcome visits from Mayberry are George Lindsay in the mistaken-identity episode, "A Visit from Cousin Goober," and Ron Howard in "Opie Joins the Marines," in which Carter bonds with the runaway Opie and, movingly, hints at a less than nurturing relationship with his own father. "The world has changed a lot since I was a kid," he remarks when Andy (Andy Griffith) arrives to retrieve his son, and puts a reassuring arm around the boy's shoulder. Television has changed, too, in the more than 40 years since these still funny episodes were first broadcast. Prime time could use another Gomer, with his boundless optimism, unwavering character and try, try again attitude. --Donald Liebenson

Sutton Impact.......2007-07-02
Frank Sutton does it again...he upstages Jim Nabors at almost every turn! His hilarious facial expressions are reminiscent of Jackie Gleason's wide-eyed portrayal of "The Honeymooners"' Ralph Kramden. I watched the Oscar-winning 1955 film "Marty" recently, where Frank Sutton played one of Ernest Borgnine's buddies...Sutton looks exactly like he would on "Gomer Pyle USMC" - he didn't seem to age at all in the ten years between "Marty" and "Gomer" - watch 'em and see for yourself! He's great!
This second season of ol' Gome was the first to be in color - and, unlike the first color episodes of "The Andy Griffith Show," these Gomer shows are still as fresh and funny as the first season. And there are guest stars a-plenty: Jamie Farr, William Christopher, Ronny Howard, Andy Griffith, George "Goober" Lindsey, Ted Knight, Susan Oliver, Joyce Jameson, Jerome Cowan, Gigi Perreau, Michael Conrad, Tige Andrews, Brendon Boone, Dabbs Greer, Jackie Joseph and Jack "Jimmy Olsen" Larsen.
Also, many regular actors who guested on "The Andy Griffith Show" make appearances, like Parley Baer, Enid Markey, Maudie Prickett and Maggie "Charlene Darling" Petersen.
Roy Stuart makes his first appearance as Corporal Boyle, Allan Melvin debuts as Sergeant Hacker and, best of all, Barbara Stuart finally portrays Vince Carter's girlfriend, Bunny Wilson (wait'll you see her in those tight slacks! Hubba Hubba!).
The reason I gave this set four stars is ONLY because it doesn't have ANY special features as the first set did....NONE....but the stories, acting, color, crispness and direction are definitely five star-worthy. You'll have fun!
Changes not bad so far..........2007-06-28
I was angered to read the small print on the box that advises that some music has been changed and episodes may be edited. Yikes. I suspected that the music changes would occur in restaurants, etc. when they have dance music going in the background. So far I am right. I hate they changed it, but the music isn't too bad. On the other hand, haven't seen any edits yet. Hope there aren't any. Why would a company go to all the trouble to remaster edited versions (and the episodes look fantastic by the way). Would have given 5 stars but because the b.g. live action music was changed, had to knock off a star. I'll post again if I spot any missing footage.

This clever, funny big-screen adaptation of Lauren Weisberger's best-seller takes some of the snarky bite out of the chick lit book, but smoothes out the characters' boxy edges to make a more satisfying movie. There's no doubt The Devil Wears Prada belongs to Meryl Streep, who turns in an Oscar-worthy (seriously!) strut as the monster editor-in-chief of Runway,
an elite fashion magazine full of size-0, impossibly well-dressed plebes. This makes new second-assistant Andrea (Anne Hathaway), who's smart but an unacceptable size 6, stick out like a sore thumb. Streep has a ball sending her new slave on any whimsical errand, whether it's finding the seventh (unpublished) Harry Potter book or knowing what type she means when she wants "skirts." Though Andrea thumbs her nose at the shallow world of fashion (she's only doing the job to open doors to a position at The New Yorker someday), she finds herself dually disgusted yet seduced by the perks of the fast life. The film sends a basic message: Make work your priority, and you'll be rich and powerful... and lonely. Any other actress would have turned Miranda into a scenery-chewing Cruella, but Streep's underplayed, brilliant comic timing make her a fascinating, unapologetic character. Adding frills to the movie's fun are Stanley Tucci as Streep's second-in-command, Emily Blunt (My Summer of Love) as the overworked first assistant, Simon Baker as a sexy writer, and breathtaking couture designs any reader of Vogue would salivate over. -- Ellen A. Kim

Description
Based on the hilarious best-selling novel, this sinfully funny movie starring Academy Award(r) winner Meryl Streep* and Anne Hathaway is "sensationally entertaining in every way" (maxim). As assistant to impossibly demanding New York fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly (Streep), young Andy Sachs (Hathaway) has landed a job that "a million girls would die for." Unfortunately, her heaven-sent appointment as Miranda's personal whipping girl just might be the death of her!
Customer Reviews:
great show.......2007-07-03
Meryl Streep was brilliant in this role as the bitchy, leader of this band of merry fashionistas. The plot was great and I loved the fact that at the end they both acknowledged that they knew who had accomplished something in the fashion world. And that she was accepted by Meryl Streep's character.
Streep makes a GREAT Wicked Witch . . . ........2007-07-01
Overall, this is a pretty good film, with Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, the recent college grad trying to break into journalism who takes the only available job as junior assistant to the high-powered editor of the leading fashion magazine. She's earnest, and cute, and bright -- but Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, queen of fashionistas and priestess of the Dark Side of the Force, is spectacular. As the tagline says, Miranda is "hell on wheels." Sadistic, hyper-demanding, not knowing when to quit, lacking in the most basic humanity, willing to blow another marriage, happy to sacrifice everything and everyone around her, convinced that no one else in the universe is capable of doing her job. And yet "a million girls would kill" for Andy's job. It takes awhile, but Andy eventually (of course) discovers she's becoming too much like Miranda and manages to save herself at the last minute. It's a little too pat, but I enjoy watching the fashion industry being skewered.
Entertaining, Classy, Chic'.......2007-06-28
Although it been quite awhile since I have read this book, I really think that they have done a fantastic job of adapting it to film. It doesn't exactly follow the story line, but then who really cares? Why would you want to watch a film that is EXACTLY like the book? That's boring, anyway.
The Devil Wears Prada movie left me asking for more. I left feeling that I wanted to know more about what Andy Sachs had in store for herself. Nonetheless, she did do quite a bit of growing the year she worked for Meranda Priestly at Runway. Her transformation was stunning.
This movie was great! It showed stylish characters, and fabulous New York and Paris Scenes.
Meryl Streep also did a marvelous job at playing Miranda Priestly. I bet is was difficult to keep a straight face all the time. In fact, a little birdy told me that she didn't even talk to Anne Hathaway off-set so that she would be able to stay in character.
This is an entertaining, classy, chic', coming-of-age movie. You cannot miss it!
Loved this movie.......2007-06-27
Even though the movie misses a lot of the detail in the book (which I highly recommend) the movie is still very good and is good for preteens too.
This is a great movie, but it is not like the book........2007-06-13
I read the book on which this film is based before seeing this film. I loved the book, & I thought that the film would replicate the book. I was wrong. It's a great film, but I was disappointed that the film did not replicate the book. Some of the concepts in the book are the same in the film, but some are not. For example, Andy's (Hathaway's) boyfriend in the film is not the same as he is in the book. I guess they had to make some changes so that the film wasn't so long. My advice is to read the book! I enjoyed the book more than the film.

Lane Myer (John Cusack) is stuck in a personal hell. A compulsive, adolescent Everyman growing up in Suburbia, USA, not only does he fail to make the prestigious high school ski team (again), but his beloved sweetheart, Beth, also leaves him for Roy, the team's popular, arrogant captain. If this isn't bad enough, he's stuck with a mother who frighteningly experiments--rather than cooks--with food, a brother who builds rockets out of models, and a best friend so desperate for drugs that he settles for snorting powdered snow. Faced with these prospects, Lane opts to end it all ... until he comes up with a ridiculous plan to gain acceptance and win Beth back. Director Savage Steve Holland warps this simple, clichéd premise, letting his wacky imagination twist it into a fairly original, slightly dark, and completely hilarious '80s teen comedy. Not as serious a "suicide-attempt" movie as, say, Harold and Maude but just as funny, the film's more a collection of screwball sketches than a narrative. Holland livens the high jinks with surrealistic fantasy touches, including Jell-O that crawls, a hamburger that sings Van Halen, drawings that mock its creator, Japanese race-car drivers who only speak Howard Cosell, and a psychotic paperboy seeking blood over a missing $2. Cusack puts the whole thing on his shoulders and carries the insanity with another one of his touching, obsessively romantic performances, which, along with Say Anything, The Sure Thing, and One Crazy Summer, made him the quintessential (and appealing) personification of lovestruck adolescence and suffering. --Dave McCoy

One for your collection.......2007-06-10
If you are looking for a corky, funny movie this is it. One of my all time favorites.
This flick is genius! TWO DOLLARS!.......2007-05-29
Who else loves this film? Apparently, John Cusack doesn't. Oh well!
The film is about a teenager, Lane Meyer, who is ridiculously obsessed with his girlfriend. After breaking up with her, he tries suicide. Of course, the attempts backfire on him. Meanwhile, she's with a new guy, Roy, captain of the ski team, and he's trying to avoid a paperboy who will try anything to acquire his two dollars, and unbearable events at his house with his off the wall family members. Fortunately, Lane's neighbors have taken in a French exchange student, Monique Junot, who seems to have a crush on Lane. Meanwhile, Lane has to defeat Roy in order to get his girlfriend's respect...
"Better Off Dead..." is DEFINITELY one of the greatest teen comedies ever conceived. It's truly an original, off the wall, hilarious film. Cusack will always be Lane Meyer to me.
Classic 80s.......2007-05-23
I love this movie! I watched several times when I was a kid and loved it. It was a must for my DVD collection. Hilarious, classic one-liners!
rofl.......2007-05-14
This movie is a must for anyone with a sense of humor. Cusak is witty and funny portraying the feelings of the average teen with great skill. The plot, characters, and everything in-between are simply perfect for its time and their value still carries today.

Walt Disney studios had previously adapted Sheila Burnford's classic animal-adventure novel The Incredible Journey in 1963, and the story proves just as durable in this popular 1993 version, in which the heroic trio of animals are given voices provided by Don Ameche, Michael J. Fox, and Sally Field. They don't actually speak (like the clever critters in Babe), but we hear their "voices" as the lost household pets--Shadow the golden retriever, Chance the bulldog, and Sassy the cat--survive a harrowing series of adventures as they struggle to find their way home. Perfect entertainment for kids, this frequently clever movie offers an abundance of wildlife and beautiful location scenery, and the vocal performances by Ameche, Fox, and Field are surprisingly effective. A hit with parents and children alike, the film was followed by a sequel in 1996. --Jeff Shannon
Description
This thrilling and thoroughly captivating theatrical hit from Disney has become an instant favorite with audiences of all ages. You'll lose your heart to Chance, a fun-loving American bulldog pup; Sassy, a hilarious Himalayan cat who lives up to her name; and Shadow, a wise old golden retriever -- all of whom express themselves with very familiar human voices! The adventure begins when the loving owners of these irresistible pets are forced to leave them in the temporary care of a friend who lives hundreds of miles away. But after several days, the worried animals begin to think their family must be in trouble, so they decide to head for home. On their incredible journey across the ruggedly beautiful Sierras, they encounter unexpected surprises from man, beast, and nature alike. It's an unforgettable story of love, courage, and devotion that will delight and inspire generations to come!

Amazon.com essential video
From the sun-dappled heartland, a young man (Robert Redford, in soft lighting) emerges as maybe the best baseball player anybody's ever seen. On his way to the majors, he is cut down by an enigmatic black widow (Barbara Hershey) and vanishes for many years. When he reemerges, a silent mystery, he lands a spot with the New York team and begins tearing up the league--he's still the natural. Fans of the Bernard Malamud novel will be dismayed at the pure mythical hokum of this film, but baseball fanatics have been known to watch and rewatch this one; after all, it's constructed as a kind of shrine to the national pastime. Barry Levinson (Rain Man) directs the movie with an unabashed devotion to the game, although the film could use more of the realities of chewing tobacco and pine tar. Redford is fine, and Kim Basinger and Oscar-nominated Glenn Close are effective as the women in his life. The crowning touch is the soaring, extraordinary music by Randy Newman, the singer-songwriter turned orchestral composer. --Robert Horton
Amazon.com
Director Barry Levinson mentions in his video introduction the 1984 movie was rushed to theaters and this 2007 DVD is more the film he originally intended. This "director's cut" adds about 15 minutes of footage and deletes 5. It tightens the first third of the film, yet any fan of the lyrical prologue set in perfect synchronization with Randy Newman's score will be disappointed. Now the beginning is told in flashback as the elder Hobbs returns home. (It's also confusing to keep track of which Hobbs story you are watching when they are both on a train.) The changes do not improve the story or character; it simply packs in more information before Hobbs enters the Knight's dugout. After that, there are a few new scenes and many extensions, most involving Memo (Kim Basinger) and Red (Richard Farnsworth). None of the additions are exceptional. One could hope there is an Easter egg with the remastered original edition. What is on the second disc are above-average featurettes with interviews from most of the major talent. The best little ditties includes Newman's playful "lyrics" to his theme music and Levinson's divulgence that he is the radio play-by-play man. There's a good discussion on adapting (and changing) the novel, the allegorical myths, and the real-life inspirations including a heart-felt segment on Eddie Waitkus, a baseball player who was shot by an obsessed fan. A 5.1 Dolby soundtrack is now available and compliments an excellent video upgrade. --Doug Thomas

Customer Reviews:
Director has lost sight.......2007-06-08
I don't understand how someone could allow such a sub-par edit of a great film to leak out, and pretend that it is some superior "cut" of the original. Every director's cut I've ever seen carefully improved the existing film (with the exception of George Lucas' nightmares: SW) Barry Levinson forgot the emotion in his own characters if he actually had anything to do with it. The added scenes were cool, but tainted by such an inferior editing job that robs any emotion the film originally had. Bottom Line: The pace of the film is totally off and with no good reason.
The special features should include the original cut so buyers get a decent film in the package. All things considered, The Natural is my favorite movie ever. And they made it into a sloppy hack-job. Terrible.
Now this is a GREAT Director's cut!!!.......2007-06-06
I've always been a fan of "The Natural" and was highly skeptical about the announced Director's cut when I heard that it was not just adding a few scenes here and there but actually changing the flow of the movie. Well, the changes Levinson made have made the movie better, really enhancing the background story of Roy Hobbs and creating a true air of tragedy to the character that did not exist in the original movie.
A GREAT Director's cut!!!!
The Natural Extended.......2007-05-23
Ever wonder why Roy Hobbs tells Memo, "...you're right Memo, we have met before"? That's right, in the original theatrical release she never asks Roy if they'd ever met before. Now you get to see the scene that sets that dialogue up. The added scenes are wonderful and they're all over this new DVD. A lot of fun and very enjoyable.
One of Redford's best ever!.......2007-05-14
I saw this movie when it first premiered and loved it. My fascination for Robert Redford's unique talent and screen presence hasn't diminished. The movie is definitely one of his very best! Highly recommended!

If you were to purchase only one baseball movie, this is the one. Great cast and cinematography.

Here's another example of TV giving James Woods the chance to stretch out from the intense-psycho roles he seems restricted to in too many of his movies. In My Name Is Bill W. he plays Bill Wilson, the overreaching businessman from the Roaring '20s who went on to found Alcoholics Anonymous. Woods gets plenty of chances to stretch out here in Bill's headlong slide to the bottom, through the terrors of the Wall Street crash (which amplifies a two-fisted drinking problem) and into the loss of everything he holds dear. Yet Woods also is convincing as the man who understands just how insidious his disease is and learns to try to take everything one day at a time. He receives strong support from James Garner as the alcoholic physician who teams with Bill to make AA a viable proposition. --Marshall Fine
Description
Based on the true story of Bill W., James Woods - in an Emmy? award-winning performance - plays the successful stock broker whose life falls apart after the stock crash of the 1920's. Met with my expectations.......2007-07-03
I enjoyed watching the portrayal of Bill W and Dr Bob, two men whose legacy has helped change the lives of millions of alcoholics. Now when I read the big book, I have a visual of what times were like for the founders of AA and how divinely intercepted their message was.
Bill W. Rocks.......2007-05-13
This movie stands the test of time. Teaches us to remain humble and giving.
Hallmark Hall of Fame Strikes Again?.......2007-05-13
I wonder if this film is a *slightly* maudlin, syrupy, and overly-romanticized version of the strictly biographical history that so many millions of us have come to treasure in our twelve-step societies, AA being the first; notwithstanding, this film puts life, sound, flesh and bone, with appropos faces, to figures many only know from the black and white pages of AA literature. One can't be too critical of such larger-than-life portrayals of our founders and friends...
A Movie That Could Save Your Life!.......2007-05-12
This movie is a must see for anyone who is in reovery or anyone thinking about recovery. As a sober alcoholic for over 15 years, I am sure I would not be here if AA wasn't started by one drunk helping another drunk and this movie captures how it really happened. I have read much on the history of AA and "My Name is Bill W." truely honors and closely follows how it all came about. James Woods really captures the despair and hopelessness of the alcoholic who can't stop drinking and the how he found the solution to having a happy and productive life through just putting a plug in the jug and taking the simple 12 steps that he, Dr. Bob, brilliantly played by James Garner and God, played by God, ultimately put on paper in the book "Alcohoics Anonymous" better known as the Big Book and then into action. See this movie and give it to anyone you know who is afflicted with alcoholism. It may save their life!
One Day At A Time.....................2007-05-07
The great thing about this movie is, there is NO ending!! It keeps playing in the life's of recovering Alcoholics around the world!! The fact that both actor's are part of Alcoholic Anonymous, makes it a very moving example of what this AA program can do for the Alcoholic, and their famlies. Truly a movie to see!!!

The fifth season of Hogan's Heroes aired in 1969 with a divisive war tearing the nation apart, and decades later there is still comfort to be taken from Col. Hogan (Bob Crane) and company coming up with daring, ingenious, and outrageous plots to sabotage the German war effort from their base of operations in Stalag 13. Ineffectual commandant Col. Klink (Werner Klemperer, a two-time Emmy-winner, and a nominee for this season) may have Hogan's number as "a scheming troublemaker," but he is as ever clueless about Hogan's elaborate operations. To the outrage of visiting German brass, Hogan still has the run of the camp and still makes with the impudent wisecracks about "the little sign painter" and "Himmler with the laughing face." Getting information to the Underground and blowing up German installations remains job 1, but Hogan and his men--hustler Newkirk (Richard Dawson), LeBeau (Robert Clary), explosives expert Carter (Larry Hovis), and radio operator Kinch (Ivan Dixon)--must also ensure that the bumbling Klink is not transferred ("At Last-Schultz Knows Something," a great episode for co-star John Banner) or executed ("The Kommandant Dies at Dawn"), lest a more savvy or ruthless officer replace him. Hogan's Heroes caught considerable flack from critics for its lighthearted portrayal of life in a P.O.W. camp, but between the punchlines, effective moments of suspense and intrigue remind viewers that Hogan's work is no laughing matter. In "Unfair Exchange," the men kidnap General Burkhalter's sister, Gertrude "the Bride of Frankenstein" Linkmeyer (the great Kathleen Freeman) to exchange her for the Allied Agent who allowed herself to be captured to save Hogan and his men from discovery by the Gestapo. In its penultimate season, Hogan's Heroes is still a great escape, although, as Gertrude tells him, "Colonel Hogan, you've been here too long." --Donald Liebenson
Description
The inmates of a German World War II Prisoners of War camp conduct espionage and sabotage campaign right under the noses of their warders. While the enemy is often gullible, easily fooled or downright incompetent - the real strength of Hogan's men are the elaborate ruses and sometimes dangerous lengths they will go to complete their mission.

Very funny and full of witty sarcastic humor. HH has always been a favorite since I was a kid (therefore, I am probably a bit biased). I'm sure you will love it...Iain
To bad it had to end........2007-05-30
The war was on for 5 years and so was Hogan's Heroes. It was a shame we would never hear Klink utter "HOGAN!" or Shultz say "I see nothing...nothing" I guess the powers that be had decided that it was time. Unfortunatley we never got a chance to see the end of the war for Hogan and the crew. Just to see the look on Klinks face when he would have discovered what went on. But it is gone. Using the immortal words of Major Hochstter "BAHH!"
the entire series.......2007-05-29
We have not watched this particular series yet, but knowing how we enjoyed it on TV, I know we will enjoy it tremendously. This is as good a series as "M.A.S.H." ----- good FAMILY entertainment.
Shultz is coming.......2007-05-13
What can you say about a great tv series from the 60's. Everything when I want it without having to get up early in the morning to watch episodes on HDNET.

The Fox and the Hound marked the last collaboration between Disney's older artists, including three of the "Nine Old Men" (Frank Thomas, Ollie Johnston, and Woolie Reitherman), and the young animators who would make the record-breaking films of the '90s. Based on a book by Daniel P. Mannix, the film tells the story of a bloodhound puppy and a fox kit who begin as friends but are forced to become enemies. Tod and Copper barely establish their friendship before Copper begins his training as hunting dog. Unfortunately, neither character develops much of a personality, which makes it difficult to care about them. The screen comes alive near end of the film, when Tod and Copper have to join forces to fight off an enormous bear. It had been years since Disney produced a sequence with this kind of feral power--and years would pass before they surpassed it. The Fox and the Hound ranks as one of the studio's lesser efforts, but it suggests that better films were soon to follow. (Ages 5 and older) --Charles Solomon

Heartwarming.......2007-06-08
The Fox And The Hound is a charming story about two friends who should be enemys. This is a movie for the whole family to enjoy. Everyone should see it. One of Disney's best.
Remembering What I Never Knew.......2007-04-11
I know I saw The Fox and The Hound back in the day. I even sorta could conjure up the plot outline, if hazy around the edges. Seeing it again made me realize, this is a great family movie. The animation is classic, and the story is without fail. I am so glad we bought it, so we can see it again and again. Thanks to Disney for reaching into the vault to bring us this gem.
Don't Get Me Wrong ..........2007-04-08
I love Disney flicks and so does my four year old; this is why we purchased this, he saw the video in the store and a trailer on another movie and it looked like another great Disney movie for kids and adults alike and it does have a great ending, but to get there you have to sit through countless attempts to kill the fox by the hunter and his dogs. There are numerous scenes where the hunter is shooting his rifle at just about any and everything. I am not against hunting, however, I do not feel this movie is appropriate for young children who do not understand "Why this guy is trying to kill everything Daddy"
not too shabby.......2007-04-01
This is the second copy we've owned, as the first was eaten by our VCR. My kids love this movie....
