British horror/comedy Shaun of the Dead is a scream in all senses of the word. Brain-hungry zombies shamble through the streets of London, but all unambitious electronics salesman Shaun (Simon Pegg) cares about is his girlfriend Liz (Kate Ashfield), who just dumped him. With the help of his slacker roommate Ed (Nick Frost), Shaun fights his way across town to rescue Liz, but the petty concerns of life keep getting in the way: When they're trying to use vinyl records to decapitate a pair of zombies, Shaun and Ed bicker about which bands deserve preservation--New Order they keep, but Sade becomes a lethal frisbee. Many zombie movies are comedies by accident, but Shaun of the Dead is deliberately and brilliantly funny, while still delivering a few delicious jolts of fear. Also featuring the stealthy comic presence of Bill Nighy (Love Actually) and some familar faces from The Office. --Bret Fetzer

5 out of 5 stars Even better the 3rd time........2007-06-29

I liked the movie a lot when I rented it. After seeing "Hot Fuzz" by the same team, I knew I had to see the movie again. It's just as good as I remember it and I caught new things watching it again. I invited a few friends over to watch it and they liked it too.

4 out of 5 stars English Humor And Zombies! What a Combination!.......2007-06-28

I was never a huge fan of Zombie flicks. George Romero's Night Of The Living Dead scared me so bad when I was eight years old that I didn't sleep for the next decade. So when it comes to the lurching, head-snacking undead, I tend to steer the other way. Well, too many of my friends have commented on Shaun Of The Dead, so I had to take a look for myself. I'm a big fan of dry British humor and Shaun Of The Dead is packed with that as well as flesh-scarfing zombies. The entire scene where Shaun goes to the liquor store to by his morning drink and completely ignores all the signs (the bloody handprints on the glass of the cooler door, the dead bodies sprawled in the yards and streets) that the zombies have come to roost. Hysterical! Along with his slacker cohort Ed, Shaun decides to go over to his mum's house and rescue her, while taking care of his zombie-bitten step-father with a cricket bat. The laughs, entertwined with the gore, make for one trippy movie. Filled with absurd situations, Shaun Of The Dead will have you rolling while you flinch. Great!

Dig it!

3 out of 5 stars A Somewhat Dissenting Opinion.......2007-06-05

Yes. Rent it or buy it. It's not a bad movie, rather entertaining in fact. You know the plot - standard (by now) end of the world flesh eating zombie flick with a double dollop of dry British humor and sufficient gore. Good script. However, I had a few problems with this movie. First off, it's amusing rather than roll on the floor hilarious as others have stated. Secondly, it is extremely derivative of Romero's films - so much so, that I found it both distracting and a little annoying. Simply, Romero did all the heavy lifting laying the groundwork in his initial trilogy, and this film apes rather than adds like 28 Days Later. This one borders on plagiarism. Goes to the well too often with the overly used "loved one is bitten by zombie and now we have to kill it..." cliche. And, while the production values are surprisingly good, the direction is at a banal TV movie level. You've heard this from critics before - "doesn't know what kind of movie it wants to be..." Imagine if Monty Python and the Holy Grail flip-flopped between a silly spoof of the legend of King Arthur and a serious treatment of the mythology like John Boorman's Excalibur. Or, if "Crusher" lops off Curly's head with an ax as The Three Stooges are being chased around haunted mansion, and Moe pauses for a few minutes to tearily weep and grieve the loss of his brother before Crusher sneaks up behind Larry, Moe tells Larry to quit breathing on him, Larry gives his pateneted, "Nyaaaaahh" and they resume woop, woop, wooping in circles around the halls again, stepping over Curly's "corp-us" ; ) to escape Crusher as he weilds his ax.

Entertaining, worth a watch, but to call this derivative work a "homage" is being too kind, it's not as funny as its hype, and it simply flip-flops between horror and comedy to often, too severely, and too jarringly. The direction is also mundane. This one was saved mainly due to its energetic cast and a good script. Still, these criticisms aside, I couldn't say I wasn't entertained.

5 out of 5 stars Shaun of the Dead.......2007-05-30

Consistantly funny, yet amazingly believable, take on a zombie invasion. Characters well drawn and full of subtle details that make rewatching fun.

5 out of 5 stars Shaun of the Dead.......2007-05-28

I originally saw this movie because the previews looked undeniably hilarious. I waited of course until the movie was available to rent because I was cautious regarding the type of humor that might be in the film. I was pleasantly surprised to find the movie wildly entertaining with very little gratuitous humor. This British movies' premise is a spoof of the many American zombie movies (and the single British one), where the main character Sean finds himself battling zombies with presumably his best friend and roommate in order to save his as of recently ex-girlfriend. The mild manner of lead character Sean is ultimately what balances the hilarity of the movie, creating a sense of seriousness on the part of the characters, one which is ultimately the catalyst of humor. It is classic British humor and very enjoyable indeed.

4 out of 5 stars If you have bad knees, beware!!.......2007-06-30

This is a good exercise program and can definitely be used to lose weight and firm up, but if you have bad knees you absolutely do NOT want this video. It is full of deep lunges, squats and jumping jacks. After doing the first program one time, I injured my left knee and was on the couch for a week. Good vibe in the video, though - it's nice seeing the participants struggling as hard as you are to do the exercises. And Bob has a great, fun personality. Just watch out for those knees!!

5 out of 5 stars I love this DVD! Best excerise tape ever!.......2007-06-27

I used to go to the gym all the time before having my first baby. I went on the treadmills and eliptical, but I really loved the strength training classes. Since having my baby, I have no time for the gym. I have a few excerise tapes (Cardio Yogo, Pilates, Abs of Steel, etc.) but I've never really enjoyed them much. I read that this DVD lets you customize your workout and has short (20-25 minute) workouts for strength training, low-intensity, high-intensity, bootcamp and then warm-up and cool-down/stretch. I liked the idea of picking from this menu and working out for 20-25 minutes or longer, depending on how much time I had.

Well --- I love every one of these work-outs. Especially bootcamp. It is difficult but short. They are interval based, so you'll do push-ups or squats or punching for a minute, and then switch. That way, you get to work a different muscle/area when you reach your limit. I have beeen recommending this to everyone. Plus, I love Trainer Bob (he is so funny) and his rapport with the "biggest loser" team. I like that they are real looking people sweating and complaining (a little) instead of barbies in leotards with plastic smiles.

5 out of 5 stars Worked for me.......2007-06-19

I have tried them all, and I really like this DVD. I recognize the people in it and the sessions are short and not intimidating. The exercises are for bigger folks not skinny, perfect hardbodies. It feels more like a realistic workout & plan, and I have been able to stick with it and even look forward to it. Trainer Bob is motivating and it's funny.

4 out of 5 stars Good Workout........2007-06-04

This DVD workout is good. I only gave it 4 starts because I have only dont one workout so far.

I started with the begginer workout. It was a good workout. I was sweating like never before. I cant wait to get to the other workouts.

I like the fact that I could follow along right off the bat. The moves have modified versions incase you need them.

Bob is a nice trainer. He is very encouraging. He is always reminding you to do what you can and to hold in your abs.

I would reccomend this dvd to anyone who wants to start at a good easy pace and work up.

I like the fact that the cast couldnt keep up...I didnt feel like I was alone.

5 out of 5 stars Biggest Loser DVD.......2007-06-01

Love it....gives a great workout with plenty of variety and adjustability to the workout program. Enjoy the show and the opportunity to workout with the cast.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars a good follow-up to volume 1.......2007-06-23

I have had this DVD for a couple of months now, and it has become one of my more frequently used workout videos. As with the first Biggest Loser workout, I really like the fact that you can mix and match workouts to suit you. The DVD contains 9 segments. After reading previous reviews, I tried all of them, not just those gender-specific to me. The Women's workouts tend to focus more on the hips, thighs and butt, while the Men's workouts work the arms and chest more. I tend to like Bob's training style over Kim's - she can be a little too 'aerobics instructor' for me. Still, I have to hand it to the girl, she does most of the exercises with you, and she's still able to talk and be perky doing it!

This volume also uses more equipment - several segments use the stability ball, and a medicine ball in addition to the hand weights used in the first volume. And while I enjoyed doing the arm and ab workout on the stability ball in the boot camp segment, I thought that the boot camp in Volume 1 still provided a better workout.

I also didn't particularly enjoy the Functional Flexibility segment, which focuses more on range of motion and slower movements. Not much in the way of cardio or weights as I have become accustomed to with BL workouts.

Also, as some other reviewers mentioned, a lot of product promotion went on. And there was less of the contestant's success stories, which I personally found to be motivating.

I still prefer the first volume over this one, but, in the end, it does provide a good workout. Like the previous volume, it is guaranteed to make you sweat, and work all those areas you want to target. Definitely, a lot of bang for your buck.

5 out of 5 stars A great workout for almost anyone!.......2007-06-12

I purchased the Vol 1 DVD and loved it and then I saw this and had to have it too. It was worth the money for sure! The short ten-fifteen minute workouts make it simple to mix and match. If I am having an off day or if I am feeling ready to take on the world, I can easily find the perfect combination of workouts to make me feel good. Plus, I appreciate that the people are real and that you can see them mess up too from time to time. If you are a woman, make sure to try out the Men's Sculpt segment because it is a quick 10 mins of weights that isn't very difficult.

3 out of 5 stars disappointed.......2007-06-04

I bought this because the reviews were good but after one time I'm disappointed with it. I'm not one to decide so soon. I enjoyed the warm up and the flexibility routine but the cardio and the sculpt sections were pretty bad. I needed a good cardio exercise video and that's why I was left disappointed. They were short routines which could be convenient but practically the whole time was squating and jumping and squating. I can't imagine that this routine is good for a beginner or that it is a safe workout --especially if your legs are not already in tip top shape. I work out pretty regularly and it was hard on my knees to jump and squat. I'd rather jog since that would be easier on the knees and a much better calorie burner. I will probably only do the warm up and flex section.
I would be willing to give Vol 1 a try which seems to have much better reviews.

5 out of 5 stars Love This!.......2007-04-09

I'm a huge fan of this show and watch it all the time! I was so excited to know that we could order this DVD and workout like they do! It's a very instructional DVD and you can customize it any way you would like to. It even has a workout type for women & men! It's a great addition to my other workouts!! Plus I love seeing the people from the show doing the workouts!

5 out of 5 stars What a great DVD!.......2007-03-10

I have quite a collection of workout videos and DVD's, but am always happy to add some more good ones! I really enjoy this DVD...the workouts are great, and very motivating! Also, it shows the week-by-week weight loss struggles and achievements of a couple of the actual show's participants. I highly suggest getting this one...even if you are beginner, you can workout without weights, and make the moves smaller...then kick it up when you get to that level!

Good luck with your fitness goals...do something good for yourself!

5 out of 5 stars The dawn of Shaun!.......2007-05-27

Zombies are one of those horror staples that have gotten putrid, after one too many idiotic blood'n'gore-fests with a revolting script. Like poor Dracula, they run out of things to do.

But zombie films are revitalized by the wickedly funny "Shaun of the Dead," a tale of music, love, pubs, and the slobbering undead. In the vein of Peter Jackson's "Dead Alive," it's full of twisted humour, funny dialogue and plenty of gore.

Shaun (Simon Pegg) and Ed (Nick Frost) are the poster boys for adolescentus slackeritis, living in a London flat with their peeved roommate Pete, who has actually grown up and gotten a real job. Ed plays video games all day, and Shaun's immaturity has just gotten him dumped by his long-suffering girlfriend Liz (Kate Ashfield).

Wrapped up in his love life woes, Shaun fails to notice a little news item: Human beings all over London are transforming into zombies. At first, Shaun obliviously drowns his sorrows, and has a nasty encounter when he goes to pick up a soda. Now he must mend his relationship with Liz and defend himself and his family from the hordes of ravenous zombies... by barricading them in a pub.

"Shaun" makes the whole genre seem fresh just because it doesn't take itself seriously. The heroes don't even have guns (since the UK public don't get them), and so our heroes fend off the zombies with vinyl records, shovels and cricket bats. That gives an idea of how serious this movie is.

"Shaun of the Dead" isn't so much a zombie movie as a love story with zombies -- a very funny one, with lots of gore. We're treated to slackers in love, Shaun drifting obliviously around London withoutn noticing the undead, and some very entertaining dialogue ("Just look at the face: it's vacant, with a hint of sadness. Like a drunk who's lost a bet...")

Later on, he's forced to shake off his obliviousness in order to save his loved ones, with a bat as his only weapon. And maybe some commandos in a tank. It's gory, and the ending gets a bit cliched and overserious, but the ride up until then is wonderfully scripted and full of hilarious crude comic moments. Not sex-organ/bathroom humor, but definitely not highbrow.

Everybody knows guys like Shaun and Ed. Pegg perfectly plays a slacker with a heart of gold, who would like to be more than he is, but doesn't have the slightest clue how to go about it. Frost is a good annoying sidekick for Shaun, and Ashfield does a good job as the long-suffering girlfriend.

As a bonus, music geeks will laugh themselves silly over such important decisions as: which albums should our reluctant heroes throw at the zombies? "Stone Roses?" "No." "...Second Coming?" "I liked it." "Dire Straits?" "Chuck it!" Good choice, Shaun m'boy.

While it's a hilarious movie, it's not a spoof -- rather it's a zombie movie with wit, love and comedy. By not taking itself too seriously, "Shaun of the Dead" ends up revitalizing a genre that seemed like it was... well, almost dead.

This quietly daffy comedy should have been an indie hit, but ended up ignored by audiences. Too bad; it's a wonderfully sustained caper movie about friends whose career choice is all wrong. Low-key Anthony (Luke Wilson) and high-strung Dignan (Owen C. Wilson--the two actors are brothers) are brought into a life of crime by Dignan's ambition to be a small-time thief. After a few amusingly laid-back trial burglaries, they (and a third buddy) find themselves over their heads when they hook up with an experienced crime boss (James Caan). Because this movie is so relentlessly deadpan, you really have to be dialed in to its brand of humor--but once there, Bottle Rocket shoots off plenty of sparks. Above all, Owen Wilson's portrayal of Dignan is a terrifically original comic creation; Dignan is so sincerely focused on his goals that he can't see how completely absurd his ideas are. Owen Wilson, who went on to supply similarly knuckle-headed performances in Armageddon and Permanent Midnight, wrote the screenplay with director Wes Anderson. --Robert Horton

5 out of 5 stars Great Indie film!.......2007-04-15

This film is probably starting to make its way to mainstream with the commercial success of the Wilson brothers, Luke and Owen.
This film is perhaps one of the best independent films I have ever seen. Owen Wilson and Wes Anderson (who co-wrote with Owen W. and directed the film) paired on several films of less-than-popular stature. All of them are quirky at worst and extremely entertaining at best. As a note, I would recommend all of them as spectacular, with slight hesitation on "The Royal Tannenbaums".
This film in particular was a showcase of how good writing can make up for subpar acting. The actors in this movie were not great, but the story, the words, they were fantastic. Basically, a guy gets bored with life and wants some adventure and he drags his buddies along as he attempts to become a criminal. Things don't go as planned, but the results are very funny.
I am not a huge fan of big hollywood type films, so I have lost interest in most of the films of the Wilson brothers, but this one shows brilliance when they were unknown.
A very intelligent, funny film. It is not a slapstick comedy, so don't rent it if you are expecting "Tommy Boy" or "Happy Gilmore". If you like quirky comedies, comedies that make you think, in the vein of "Waiting for Guffman", "Drop Dead Gorgeous", "A Mighty Wind" or "Rushmore", then this is a perfect fit for you; buy it. If you want a 3 Stooges type comedy, you can look elsewhere; this one is more low key.

4 out of 5 stars "You're calling me a bully? Here's a bully for you!".......2007-04-05

Even though he's only made four movies, Wes Anderson is one of the most talented, interesting, and quirky directors in the business. He's still young, but with only four films under his belt he's already become a synonym for a very distinct type of filmmaking, e.g. "That movie was kind of Wes Andersonish." Having seen the final three films of the Anderson canon (RUSHMORE, THE ROYAL TENEBAUMS, and THE LIFE AQUATIC WITH STEVE ZISSOU), I finally had the opportunity to see Anderson's debut feature, BOTTLE ROCKET. The movie begins rather slowly, but by the end I was laughing my head off and decided BOTTLE ROCKET was my second favorite film next to THE LIFE AQUATIC WITH STEVE ZISSOU.

The movie was released early in 1996 and though not as technically strong as Anderson's later pictures, it illustrates the genius of filmmaking that he is. In addition to being Anderson's major directorial debut, the movie is also known as the film that catapulted the Wilson brothers, Owen and Luke, into superstardom. Luke Wilson portrays Anthony Adams, a young man who is struggling with his identity and purpose in life. After taking time to recuperate at a voluntary mental hospital, Anthony returns home and meets up with his childhood friend, Dignan (Owen Wilson). Anthony is looking forward to settling down and getting on with life while Dignan has bigger plans for both of them. Dignan wants Anthony to enjoy life, too, but through a totally different means than he imagines: a life of pleasure gained from committing crime. At first, Anthony isn't willing to join Dignan's wild scheme, but Dignan is persistent and breaks through Anthony's reluctance and gets him to join him on a crime spree to impress Dignan's former boss, Mr. Henry, a supposed local crime lord. Dignan also gets another friend, Bob Mapplethorpe (Robert Musgrave) to join the scheme. While Dignan goes about planning the caper, Bob tries to fend off his bully brother John, aka "Future Man" (Andrew Wilson--the overlooked Wilson brother) and Anthony falls in love with a Latino motel housekeeper named Inez (Lumi Cavazos).
The film leads up to the caper itself, an event that is both hilarious and heartbreaking.

All of the actors do a great job. I particularly liked Andrew Wilson (whose real childhood nickname was Future Man because he was seen as being so serious and looking to the future) and Kumar Pallana who portrays Kumar, a supposed expert safe-cracker that Dignan adds to his crime team.

Not everyone is going to enjoy watching BOTTLE ROCKET. The movie has a very odd pacing, even for a Wes Anderson film. It's evident that both the director and cast were adjusting to making a major picture. Also, since this is a Wes Anderson picture, not everyone is going to like, enjoy, or even understand the humor. There are no cheap gags or easy jokes. Instead, the comedy can best be described as intellectual-situational. In short, it's kind-of Wes Andersonish. A must-see for fans of Wes Anderson or any of the Wilson brothers as well as anyone who likes quirky dramatic-comedies.

I liked this movie. I wished there was audio commentary. If there is a Criterion Collection available I'd get it. But I have to settle for this one...

Brendan Fraser stars in Bedazzled as Elliot, a dweebish office worker who yearns for Alison (played by Frances O'Connor from Mansfield Park), a coworker who barely knows he exists. When he blithely says he'd give his soul for Alison, the Devil appears (Elizabeth Hurley, Austin Powers) and says she'll give him seven wishes in exchange. Elliot is dubious at first, but agrees out of desperation. Unfortunately, his every wish always leaves the Devil a little wiggle room. When he asks to be rich and powerful, the Devil turns him into a drug lord beset on all sides. When he asks to be a successful, well-endowed writer, the Devil adds a male lover to the mix. The setup and situations are clever, though Bedazzled doesn't delve into any real moral or theological questions and has a little less bite than the original it's based on (from 1968, starring Dudley Moore and Peter Cook). But it does provide some better comic substance than Fraser has had in most of his previous roles (George of the Jungle, Encino Man). Fraser demonstrated in Gods and Monsters that he could hold his own dramatically with the likes of Brit thespian Ian McKellen, and he's consistently been a charming presence in movies enjoyable (The Mummy) and not so enjoyable (Dudley Do Right). Bedazzled may not give him any more movie-making clout, but it does give his fans something to enjoy. O'Connor is entirely pleasant in her largely straight role, and Hurley fills out her part by delectably filling out a number of revealing outfits. An enjoyable bit of froth. --Bret Fetzer

3 out of 5 stars Mediocre at best, --- a disgrace at worst.......2007-06-30

Viewed on its own merits, this movie is a so-so dud. Well-produced & attractive, but the humor is broad, physical, and not especially subtle. Brendan Fraser is OK in his variety of roles, but Elizabeth Hurley is nothing more than eye candy and simply is not capable of making her character anything more than a series of slinky costume changes. Considering that she plays one of the two principal characters, this poses a bit of a problem. However, it doesn't appear to have disturbed a great number of testosterone-addled reviewers who reviews can be easily summed up as "Elizabeth Hurley is so HOT!" OK, then.

So --- without any context, it's just Meh. When compared to the 1967 original, it is abysmal. For those who say, just enjoy it for what it is & stop comparing to Moore & Cook: well sorry, but IT IS A REMAKE, and by its very nature invites comparisons. The comparisons are not good. The trenchant wit & savage social commentary found in the original --- the elements which made the original so brilliant --- are utterly lacking in the newer version. One can't disembowel a classic & not expect people to howl in disgust.

If you must, rent the remake, buy the original. You'll forget the remake sooner than you thought possible.

5 out of 5 stars What a Pleasant Surprise.......2007-06-07

The Dudley Moore version, which I saw in the theater years ago, was funny as I vaguely recall (haven't seen it since). When confronted with the possible purchase of this movie, and the two different versions, I ended up choosing this much cheaper one (got it used for $3.34, including shipping) on the chance that it would be at least okay and worth the purchase price. Wow, is this ever a great movie. I loved it. Very few movies get me to laugh out loud, and this one elicited a number of those. The original could not possibly have been better than this, and it's so cheap. It's like stealing. It is one of the gems of my DVD collection.

4 out of 5 stars Just a fun and enjoyable movie!.......2007-06-04

This is by no means a deep, intellectual movie. This is a comedy that is light-hearted and just plain enjoyable to watch. First off, the directing is exactly the kind that Brendan Fraser works best with, it just lets him flow naturally and he just seems to have fun.

As others have mentioned, the chemistry between Hurley and Fraiser is there. This is what makes the movie so funny and compelling to watch. You never know what funny sarcastic thing Fraser will say next, and what Hurley will fire right back with! There are elements of both flat-out humor, and subtle humor; which can mix well with the overall premice of the movie!

Be who you are and be happy with what you are given in life. Everything will work out in the end. A good movie that is well worth owning for a night where you just want to laugh!

4 out of 5 stars Devilishy funny........2007-04-12

Harold Ramis' 2000 adaptation of the dark British comedy classic Bedazzled is a blast to watch. I can't call this a remake because Ramis' casual looking version looks and feels like a different movie than its formal English counterpart. Having seen both this film and the 1967 original, I like the American version a little better.

Elliott is a nerdy guy in a dead-end job desperate to be liked by his co-workers. There's a girl at his office he's had his eye on but she doesn't notice him. Meeting the devil at a local bar, He makes a deal to sell his soul in exchange for seven wishes in the hopes of winning the girl of his dreams. Too bad he doesn't read the fine print on the contract he signs. There's ALWAYS a catch when dealing with the Devil. First he wishes he were rich and powerful- Only he's a Columbian druglord about to be betrayed by his woman and his cartel. Moments before his death He pages 666. He wishes he were sensitive, and when he cries at the sunset she dumps him. He wishes he were a basketball superstar Only to find out his "package" is small! He then wishes he were an intellectual writer with a big package-only to find out he's gay! He wishes he were president of the United States only to find he's Abe Lincoln on the night he's about to he shot by John Wilkes Booth! Six wishes later the Devil is tired of toying with him and insists he makes a final wish. He wishes for the girl of his dreams to be happy and the contract is voided. In the end he doesn't get the girl, but learns a lesson: Be yourself.

What makes Ramis' version a superior film is the solid storytelling and excellent direction. The script in this version is a lot tighter than in the clunky 1967 original and the characters are better developed and have more complex personalities. Because the writing is more concise, it makes the story easier to follow. The Original Bedazzled was a slow, tedious movie that focused so much on minor technicalities it was hard to watch. This version grabs the viewer and keeps them watching until the end.

The acting here is top notch. Brendan Fraser gives one of his best performances as the Nebbish nerdy Elliott. His comic timing and execution throughout the film remind me a lot of the late John Ritter, he really knows how to use his face and eyes to get a laugh. Elizabeth Hurley gives a great performance as the Devil; It's just a delight to watch her onscreen. She has excellent chemistry with Fraser and their comic timing is spot on. Hurley's charm and personality carries the movie through all three acts, even though she's the devil you just like her. Throughout the changes into all those stylish outfits you see her, not the clothes she wears. (J.Lo and Halle take note) That's the mark of a good actress. Frances O'Connor does gives a solid performance as the object of Elliott's desire. She holds her own in all the sketches and has great chemistry with Fraser. Comedy veterans Orlando Jones and Toby Huss add strong comedic support in all the comedy sketches.

Director Harold Ramis creates a tightly focused comedy with excellent production values and great cinematography. I felt like I was right there on those California streets in every frame. The visual effects blend with the live action and all we see are the hilarious jokes.

The Harold Ramis version of Bedazzled is definitely worth the purchase price. Pick this one up along with the 1967 original and The Devil Wears Prada for a deliciously evil movie night.

My two toddler's love this movie. It was so hard to find and Amazon had it. This is a great kid's movie! It is a must have for all families.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Movie for entire family.......2007-01-11

This movie is a classic. We owned it on VHS and the tape finally fell apart, so I ordered it for our family for Christmas. Good for all ages, nice night of entertainment for all of us.

5 out of 5 stars solid acting and excellent story.......2006-10-26

I really liked this film. It's not a groundbreaking movie in any way, though. It's about a bunch of underdog kids who aren't interested in football until a coach comes along and changes their minds. Throughout the movie we see the kids working out and trying hard to prepare for the match against the other more talented (and unlikeable) team. It's pretty much the same thing we've seen in the Mighty Ducks except now it's about football.

It's just a typical family movie that sends the message to children that even if you're small and think you don't have any talent, you actually DO have the talent to play football, hockey, basketball, whatever. One of the characters is a girl who doesn't know if she wants to play football with the boys or be a cheerleader like all the other girls.

Rick Moranis once again plays that shy, quiet character he does so well in other films such as Honey I Shrunk the Kids. It's hard to believe he's now a country singer (no, I'm not kidding). Ed O'Neil doesn't quite play the jerk character you'd expect from the Married with Children show. He's not really a nice guy either, though.

I find it interesting that the team names are the Giants (the good guys) vs. the Cowboys (the bad guys) because the Monday Night Football game this week were those two teams facing each other (with the Giants winning).

3 out of 5 stars Predictable - ultimately this is Ed O'Neill's film.......2006-08-06

When Ed O'Neill was cast into the role as Al Bundy in the late 1980s comedy, "Married with Children", it quickly would become a role synonymous with O'Neill himself. At the same time it catapulted O'Neill into a major star. It seemed natural that O'Neill would soon start to do feature films. However, for the most part O'Neill's feature film resume has never lived up to his role as Al Bundy. In 1994, while still on "Married with Children", O'Neill would team up with Rick Moranis to star in a comedy called "Little Giants". While I'd hardly call "Little Giants" a groundbreaking or award-winning movie, it still was a pretty good film. Much of what made this movie very good has to be credited to the talents of O'Neill himself.

For the most part, "Little Giants" follows a familiar style of story. O'Neill plays Kevin O'Shea. Kevin is a local hometown former All-American football hero. Kevin is now retired from Football and owns a successful car dealership in his hometown of Urbania. He lives in an nice house with his wife and two daughters. Also living in Urbania is Kevin's brother Danny O'Shea (played by Rick Moranis). Danny's life hasn't been quite as successful. Danny's wife had abandoned him and his daughter Becky many years ago - living Danny in the role as single parent. Danny runs a service station in Urbania, but doesn't nearly live the lifestyle of Kevin. When Kevin is asked to coach a peewee football team to represent Urbania, he takes the role very competitively as he has taken Football all of his life. When Danny sees Kevin having tryouts for the Football team, he becomes very upset with the way Kevin is handling things. Kevin only picks the best players to play. While Danny's daughter Becky deserves to play, Kevin basically leaves her off the team because he is a girl Not only does Danny feel Becky deserves to play, but he feels that all kids deserve a chance to play on Urbania's peewee football team - no matter how good they are. This leads Danny to form his own football team - with the "castoffs and misfits" who didn't make Kevin's team. Because the peewee football league will only allow one team to represent Urbania, Kevin and Danny have their teams square off on the field to decide who will represent Urbania. The film then focuses on Danny's attempts to build and train a rag-tagged Football team up against his brother's well-oiled machine.

There are a couple of interesting subplots going on in this film. The first one involves Becky - Danny's daughter. We see Becky struggle with walking a fine-line between being a tom-boy and a teenage girl. Since Becky is a main part of Danny's team, this has an integral role in the film. The other involves Danny and Kevin's attempt to recruit a blue chip prospect named "Spike" - a new boy in town, with a "little league father".

The movie also uses the NFL connection in a couple of ways. The first is the team names. Kevin's team adopts the helmets and uniforms of the Dallas Cowboys while Danny's team will adopt the helmets of the New York Giants. Being a New York Giants fan, it made me even root more for the underdog "Little" New York Giants against the hated Dallas Cowboys (On the other hand, Cowboy fans may not feel the same way). The other involves some cameos of some famous NFL stars. These NFL stars happen to be passing through Urbania and lend a hand to Danny as he is training the Little Giants for the big game. These players include Tim Brown, Steve Emtman, Bruce Smith, Emmitt Smith, and of course John Madden - all of whom are playing themselves. As he does in the broadcast booth, Madden will also entertain on the big screen.

In this movie, Rick Moranis is once again cast into the wimpy, unsuccessful character. We see this happen in a movie he does later on with Tom Arnold called "Big Bully". This is a style of character that has almost become synonymous with Moranis himself. While Moranis' character of Danny is the hero - he becomes a difficult character to root for. It's O'Neill's character of Kevin that dominates. This is not because Kevin is "stronger" than Danny - it is because that Ed O'Neill is a superior actor to Rick Moranis. The only interesting thing that happens to the character of Danny O'Shea is how the idea of coaching up against his brother begins to consume him - and impact his relationship with daughter Becky.

The idea of an underdog team going up against the established team is something we've seen time and time again. The other concept of the weaker brother going up against the stronger brother is also something that has been seen many times. While "Little Giants" will entertain audiences throughout the movie, the familiar concepts of underdog and brother against brother are completely predictable. On top of that, the ending will also be completely predictable - including how most of the big game between the Giants and Cowboys go. On a side note, the kids playing the members of the Little Giants team are very fun to watch.

Still despite the predictability, I still found this a pretty decent movie. Even with the movie being very predictable, the nice thing is that the underdog Giants will become a very root-able team against the Cowboys. And of course, Ed O'Neill will shine big time in this movie. This is a good movie for young and old to watch and one that I would recommend.

5 out of 5 stars Ridiculous! Completely Ridiculous!.......2007-04-13

OK, this film bombed at the theaters and I am guessing it was panned by the critics. HOWEVER, it has some of the funniest lines and scenes in movie history. Artie and Norm work beautifully together. MOREOEVR, there is one scene in this movie that makes me literally cry because it is so funny, no change that, because it is so ridiculous.

i love norm macdonald and this is the dumbest movie of all time

4 out of 5 stars dumb humor.......2007-01-25

if your into dumb humor...or watching artie lang trying to act in a PG 13 arena....this is a good buy

4 out of 5 stars Better than I expected, but it still stars Norm Macdonald..........2006-10-19

This movie features an all-star cast of former SNL regulars. The plot is goofy and senseless but interesting and full of clever twists. The jokes are plentiful, though only a few are "laugh out loud" funny. Many of Norm Macdonald's attempts at humor fall flat, and this was the biggest flaw of the film. Norm Macdonald quite simply is not a good actor, at least not in a leading role. To say he doesn't have much charisma is putting it mildly. The wooden SNL alumnus delivers many of his lines like he's reading from a book or in a sarcastic tone that seems to wink at the audience when the role calls for him to play the material straight. I love dry, deadpan humor, but Macdonald doesn't quite pull it off. This movie might have been 5-star hilarious with Leslie Nielson the king of deadpan starring in his prime.

5 out of 5 stars Pure Comedic Genius.......2006-09-25

This movie is obviously meant for the 16 - 30 year old white male demographic, and anyone outside of that group may not care for it (however, I have quite a few hispanic friends who LOVED it, so don't take what I've said to heart).

I can honestly say that this is my favorite comedy of all time. It's best watched after a couple of beers, and there are only a few fleeting moments when the movie is not entirely on fire. Norm MacDonald's comedic genius is fully realized in "Dirty Work," without the corporate filters of Saturday Night Live or "The Norm Show" to mute parts of his act that would otherwise be solid gold.

Not only does Norm deliver a flawless performance, but Chris Farley, Chevy Chase, Artie Lange, Jack Warden and many others (including cameos by Gary Coleman and Adam Sandler) all hold their own and win over each and every scene in which they appear.

If you're in the aforementioned demographic, don't hesitate--do yourself a huge favor and pick up this all-time best comedy.

Saturday Night Live alum and Adam Sandler sidekick Rob Schneider plays the title character of Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, a miserable fish-tank cleaner who stumbles onto a new and different lifestyle when he looks after the fish of a high-priced male prostitute (Oded Fehr from The Mummy). Deuce teams up with a man-pimp (Eddie Griffin), gets harassed by a crazed cop (William Forsythe), and of course falls in love with a cute client (Arija Bareikis). The nonsensical plot is festooned with gags about wet T-shirts, foul-mouthed senior citizens, flatulence, Tourette's syndrome, narcolepsy, and just about everything else you might imagine. More surprising is that, by and large, the movie works. It's a combination of bad taste and goodheartedness, similar to There's Something About Mary, which Deuce Bigalow is clearly emulating. It's not the pat "people should learn to accept themselves for who they are" theme or the formulaic happy ending; it's that the movie understands that sex is not the same thing as happiness or contentment. For all its crassness, Deuce Bigalow actually treats its characters as people, and the result is silly, obnoxious, and enjoyable. --Bret Fetzer

5 out of 5 stars Great.......2007-07-02

My copy was stolen, along with 14 other DVDs, my stereo system, checkbook and a laptop. One insurance company replaced the laptop. The other one didn't give me that for the stereo. I replaced the movie. I liked it. And as a friend perceptively said, the hero is truly a "kind" guy. And none of the fish was hurt.

3 out of 5 stars Deuce Bigalow.......2007-01-27

It has laughs if you like Rob Schneider's sense of humor. He does try to bring out the best of people and that's a plus. If you like off the wall comedy, this is for you.

5 out of 5 stars Tons of laughs.......2006-11-11

Rob Schneider shows off his comedic talents here, deliverying his best movie to date. Any fans of his movies or even Adam Sandlers movies will definitely want to add this to their collection, while anyone else may get a few laughs out of this but find the story a bit flat. I rate this up with Happy Gilmore for laughs and entertainment, it is very funny with a wide range of hillarious characters. Great performance by Schneider himself as well as brilliant performances by Eddie Griffin, William Forsythe and Oded Fehr. Great fun, well worth the money in my opinion.

4 out of 5 stars Not classic, but good.......2006-01-16

I liked this picture. It was along the crude lines of Dumb and Dumber or Kingpin. The film revels in potty humor, quite literally in fact, since a very funny scene involves Deuce and his bathroom attendent father. What makes this work is the original zany concept, and the film has heart. There is a genuine warmth to Deuce, and jokes work than those that don't. Worth picking up, and holds up well in repeated watchings.

5 out of 5 stars This Is A Great Comedy!.......2005-11-05

This movie made me laugh so hard. This one is MUCH better than the second one. If you haven't bought this yet, BUY IT NOW. You won't regret it. This movie is about a gigolo who dates a lot of different women for money and eventually marries one who has one leg. This movie is funny. I recommend it to anyone who likes comedies and Rob Schneider.

Mike Judge, the creator and voice of MTV's insouciant Beavis and Butt-head characters, made his feature film directorial debut with this full-length B&B misadventure, which finds the boys going on a cross-country adventure after their all-important television set is stolen. Fans of the now-defunct TV show will obviously enjoy this film the most, though almost anyone with a passing awareness of the characters will find something to chuckle about. (The funniest recurring gag finds beleaguered B&B neighbor Tom Anderson constantly sabotaged by the guys while on vacation.) Celebrity voices are fun to pick out, particularly that of David Letterman, who rather appropriately plays Butt-head's long-lost father. --Tom Keogh

Description

Our intrepid adolescent heroes wake up to find their beloved television stolen, and embark on an epic journey across America to recover it, and, who knows, maybe even score. On the way they encounter a murderous smuggler of a deadly virus and his treacherous wife, an FBI agent with a predilection for cavity searches, a couple of rather familiar looking ex-Motley Crue roadies, Mr. Van Dreesen singing "Lesbian Seagull", a little old lady and of course Mr. Anderson and his trailer. Can the Great Cornholio save the day? Uh-huh. Huh-huh.

The 2 moronic characters are on a mission to search for their beloved tv which was stolen after they woke up. They travel the country for their mission to score with this drunk dudes wife and get $10 grand to buy a big screen tv with 2 remotes because they say it's gonna rule! And beavis is hoping to do some [...] in los vegas. This is the most funniest movie I wish they came back on tv I also miss beavises best catchy line FIRE! FIRE! FIRE! FIRE! which has beavises insane pyromania feeling in this movie and cornholio. Too bad mike judge had to remove beavises pyromanian line because of those retarded parents pinning it out on this show for the loss of their daughter which they didn't even watch their kids and I say it was their fault not this show or the kids but the parents fault. Any way for real good humor I recommend this movie for you. beavis and [...] head rule and mtv sucks! I give it a 5/5 stars.

If you're looking at Beavis & Butthead Do America.. then you already know who they are... and you need to own this! No If's And's Or But's!

5 out of 5 stars It's quite surprising how much it holds up.......2006-09-19

Before South Park came on the air and offended practically everybody with cripple fights to cooking parents in chili to saying the S word a record 162 times, there was Beavis and Butthead. Found on MTV, the pair were crude and just plain moronic who laughed at even the mention of dirty words bringing out the popular catchphrase "uh-huh, you said ". After the show ended, the pair got their own movie and became a surprise hit so who would've guessed that it's actually still funny?

Beavis and Butthead are sleeping on their trademark couch which allows a pair of robbers to steal their prized TV. Not wanting to just allow it, they go hunting for it and end up meeting Muddy, a biker who will pay them to "do" his wife, which of course he means kill but they didn't get that part. So he flies them to Vegas to meet her only she sends them to Washington with something particularly interesting and quite dangerous. And of course the hilarity and antics ensue.

Now, the humor seems kind of tame. Buzzards having sex with each other or a topless sphinx probably doesn't have that kneeslapper kick to it like it used to. Not that I mind anyway since even if certain jokes don't work, the whole thing has a very loose and laid-back feeling about it where it doesn't even matter if you're not laughing, you're just glad they're up there. Some jokes, such as the preposition one, Beavis' alter-ego Cornholio are always funny, not to mention Robert Stack's ATF character's love for cavity searches.

Does it have some problems? A bit. The reliance on toilet humor can only go so far and you kind of wanted them to do more America rather than the limited ones we have here. We literally skip over certain states that could've got some good mileage. And while visually impressive, the Rob Zombie inspired freak-out in the desert just doesn't fit (and to be honest: anything involving Rob Zombie and filmmaking just doesn't work). But they're only minor concerns and of course this is a MTV movie - a Beavis and Butthead one nonetheless - so all that stuff gets thrown out the window.

The special features are pretty good but you kind of wish there was more. We have a commentary with Mike Judge and Yvette Kaplan with Mike slipping into character a couple times(not often enough but the mention of his dream involving the movie is hilarious). The featurette is slightly disappointing as while we do get some background and discussion, some of it is either redundant and back-patting or mentioned already in the commentary. But seeing some footage of the VA's, including Mike Judge doing Beavis, Butthead and Mr. Anderson are always awesome.

If you were into the show, this is of course a good place to start. If you weren't, give it a try since this is probably the best launch pad to get into the show.

3 out of 5 stars There's lots of 'slots' in Vegas.......2006-08-04

The hit MTV cartoon Beavis & Butthead from creator Mike Judge truly was at its peak when they released this movie 10 years ago. In fact, I remember rushing out to see it in the movie theater. Twice. This is a great movie when you just need to veg out, or if you feel stupid and worthless and are desperate to see someone more stupid and worthless than you feel. If you ever enjoyed watching Beavis & Butthead on MTV and you never saw this movie, then you must live in a cave. Beavis & Butthead wind up traveling all across America as they try to hunt down who stole their most prized possession...their TV. As they wander around town looking for a TV to watch, they happen upon a seedy motel where they meet Muddy, an alcoholic who just happens to be waiting for 2 guys to meet him about "doing" his wife. Muddy is too drunk to notice or care that Beavis & Butthead are a little young for the job, all the while they think "doing" Muddy's wife implies sex not murdering her. Muddy sends them to Vegas to off his wife, but when they get there, she finds out their plan and plays on their naiveity (or should I say stupidity) to get them to head across country on a bus to Washington, DC. But unknown to Beavis & Butthead, she has sewn a unit containing a dangerous virus inside it into Beavis' shorts, and now the whole country is on the lookout for the 2 "most dangerous" criminals in America. It's great fun from beginning to end and certainly something you'll enjoy over and over again, that is, if you were a fan in the first place. Enjoy!
