A Grown Up Movie.......2007-03-20

I like Don Johnson in almost everything. The movie had alot of "F" words and God**** (which I didn't like). Overall, the movie was heartfelt and at times you wanted to just scream at both Susan and Don as they went through a 'rough patch' in their marriage. The acting was good and it made you think alot about life in general. It made me want to sit my husband down to watch it (maybe one day). I wouldn't let kids watch this because it has foul language, but as an adult I did my best to ignore it. The writer's could of definately left out the foul language or used less intense foul language. If you like Don Johnson, add this to your collection!

A LITTLE JEWEL OF A MOVIE.......2006-09-20

I first saw Sweethearts Dance at its original release in 1988. I went alone, and I was lonely, because my wife and two sons were on a school trip or something. Perhaps because of this, it has stayed in my memory all these eighteen years. Sweethearts Dance was released the year before Field of Dreams, and in some ways it deserves similar status. Field of Dreams is about how easiy life can go awry. Everything is resolved through magic. Sweethearts Dance is about how easily the optimism of youth and the passion of marriage can be diluted by the routines of making a living, raising children, and managing a family. Everything is resolved through the persistence of love. Which one is more true to life? The film contains some memorable scenes, such as the turning point when Susan Sarandon's and Don Johnson's characters admit that all they want is to love each other. As Don, sitting in a tree outside the window of his own bedroom, tells his wife, "How did things get so screwed up? I miss you. I miss our children," my eyes filled with tears. Jeff Daniels, one of the best supporting actors in the business, loves Don and Susan both, and he has his own problems with love. He has found the perfect woman, but he pushes too hard and nearly loses her. The scene in which she calls him from home while he is on vacation to thank him for asking him to marry her also tugs at the heart. Jeff is able to say, "I like you," and it's enough to restore the relationship. The ending of the movie is one of the most delightful ever filmed--you'll laugh and cry at the tenderness and ridiculousness of it. Tender and ridiculous--kind of how love is sometimes. Last week I stumbled on it while looking for something else and bought it. Last night I watched it with my wife. It felt like something important had finally been finished.

Deserving a Widescreen DVD release.......2006-04-28

C'mon, Sony. Give us some remastered widescreen love! SWEET HEARTS DANCE is a marvelous film, with one of the best seques EVER to its closing credits. Excellent performances across the board, fabulous direction from Robert Greenwald balancing such wonderfully diverse talents. Surely there's a good print intact out there somewhere. My collection PINES for a widescreen version of this fine film as much as for a camera with batteries.

True To Life.......2004-07-13

Only recently got to see this movie - was drawn by the cast of stars, and really enjoyed the movie overall. Painted a very true to life portrayal of a couple that everyone envied, who couldn't keep their hands off eachother when they dated in high school and how after time and kids, the spark in their marriage is threatened. Jeff Daniels is always fun, and Susan Sarandon is one of my favorite actresses. This is good movie.

Sometimes A Movie Comes Along That Surprises You!.......2003-05-18

Isn't it funny how sometimes a film can mirror your life. I came across this movie on the Encore channel this weekend and tuned in because of the title. I stayed with it because Don Johnson looked so great, at his peak I would say. I finished it because of the story, touching, telling and true to life.

Very sweet natured family film........1999-01-06

A loosely updated version of the classic Huckleberry Finn. A young boy flees abusive stepfather and goes in search of the adventurous grandfather that he's never met. Along the way he meets "Injun" Joe, a small time con. They team up and head for Vegas, while trying to stay ahead of the gangster who wants to kill Joe.

Simply awful........2003-01-11

It really bothers me when I see respected veteran actors like M. Emmet Walsh and Ben Gazarra in junk like this. Don't they have any pride left? Do they really need a paycheck that badly?

"Jack Of Hearts" is yet another terrible film written and directed by Serge Rodnunsky. A cop with a turbulent past is hired by the Las Vegas police department because of a shortage of good, qualified officers. The reason given for the shortage is that supposedly the population of Las Vegas tripled in only two years. Amazing!

Anyways, him and his partner (who doesn't like him...of course!) are soon on a very boring homicide case. Some guy is killed because of a disagreement about how their casino's books should be handled...or some similar kind of nonsense. It was hard for me to stay focused because most of the acting was bland and the plot was too dull. As is often the rule in this type of film, there are lots of silly conveniences and a couple of outrageous explosions, which had me chuckling.

Good movie decent transfer.......2007-06-21

This is a love story, Civil war story surrounding the Merrimac and the Monitor. It is a good movie, with realistic twists. There is an element of thriller in this movie, as the viewer is involved in the fates of the characters whose lives and families are separated by the start of the war.

The transfer to DVD is fairly good for a "public domain" film, and the packaging is good. This copy is far preferable to the A2ZCDS transfer. Th Alpha video CD has the usual amount of dirt, and noise. By contrast the A2ZCDS CD suffers from signs of severe film deterioration and has obtrusive white bubbles which follow details of the image. A2ZCDS has the temerity to label their version as remastered, which it obviously is not.

It is unfortunate that the DVDs created from older films have not been processed by some of the superb software that removes stray dust and defects from the frames. But hopefully with time, and the reduction in cost of the software, much more watchable transfers from old films will be made.

Good film, terrible processing.......2007-05-23

While the film is very enjoyable, the processing is terrible. It has many white noise bubbles in a large number of scenes. I suspect that they were originally small speckles that automatic software tried to remove and turned into bubbles. They follow the contours of some objects which is strong evidence that this is a major processing mistake. While the film is otherwise sharp and the sound listenable, the bubbles make it painful to watch. I have 2 films processed by this company and both have major processing errors.

Excellent Civil War Film!!!.......2007-04-23

I found this an excellent choice. Remastering is well done. The film is delightful at times. It is a fine example of a historic fims that captures a key point in our nation's history. Filming of the sea fighting between the Monitor and the Merrimac is as exciting as current naval battles. Interchange between President Lincoln and the main characters are especially inciteful, especially as seen from the perspective of the current times in America.

Great movie..crappy packaging and not remastered........2006-11-12

A reasonable but hardly remastered print of the film in tissue paper packaging. That said, this is still a great film about the Monitor and the Merrimac and one is very pleased that it is finally available.

Civil War Drama.......2006-07-28

Heart's in Bondage is all about what happens when two brothers are forced to fight against each other. It's set during the civil war and one of them ends up fighting for the south and the other for the yankees. Of course the day comes when they have to meet in battle and get torn between their love of family and the ideals that they are fighting for. It's very moving and shows that just because a movie is about war doesn't mean it can't also be about feelings. This is a great little family film.

A Metaphor For A Divided America.......2006-05-22

At a time in American history when people are so divided in our country I can't think of a better film to see. The point of this movie, set during the Civil War, is that American's may find themselves on different sides of an issue, but we are all still Americans and live lives of common decency. In this case, two best friends end up on different sides of the same war - literally shoot at each other at one point. Of course, this being a Hollywood film, eventually their friendship and Americanism wins over and they become united again - much like America did after the Civil War. This is an amazingly subtle and well done film that still resonates.
