With its zoom shots of ample cleavage and jiggling bottoms, this sophisticated sex farce is Naughty with a capital N. Walter Matthau stars as a desperate husband with a roving eye who is "ready to take the plunge." Robert Morse costars as his philandering best friend who becomes his "coach." Morse's "pointers" are acted out by a stellar cast of comic actors. Scoring highest are Carl Reiner as a vainglorious movie star arranging a cross-global tryst; Joey Bishop as a husband who steadfastly denies, denies, denies even after he is caught in the act by his wife, and Terry Thomas as a man driven to an early grave after his paramour (Jayne Mansfield) loses her bra in his home. The film's bevy of beauties includes ravishing Inger Stevens as Matthau's unsuspecting wife and Sue Ann Langdon as the neighborhood tease. One of the more side-splitting comedies of the 1960s, dated and politically incorrect in the extreme, which only makes it funnier today. Director Kelly (yes-he was also a dancer) deserves kudos for taking the most delicate of subject matter and toeing the line of good taste like an expert tightrope walker. Both Matthau and Morse are a riot together, but some of those cameos take the cake: in particular, look for the Reiner, Ball and Carney sequences.Catchy title tune sung by The Turtles.

A Black comedy satire that delivers.......2007-02-05

Director Gene Kelly (yes, the actor/dancer) directs this satire about a cheating men.

Robert Morse, Hot offthe success of the film version of "How to Suceed in Business Without Really Trying" makes this film a hit by playing a Finch-liker character. Walter Matthau plays again the type he would later play to the hilt, the novice. Morse takes Matthau under his wing to how to have an affair with mini skits with famous cameos

This black comedy was strong for the 1960's but by todays standards it was be tame and cute

It still holds up 40 years later and still have an air of truth to it

Too Many Laughs.......2007-01-04

I first saw this movie on TV in the mid 60's. My wife and I laughed and snickered through the whole thing. Then I saw it again, a few years later, while in VietNam. That was a real hoot with a bunch of guys watching and reacting. Some 35 or more years later, I remembered it and just had to have a copy for myself. The entire movie, about how to cheat on your wife and not get caught, is chock full of cameos by readily recognizable stars acting out little scenarios as Robert Morse explains how to go about things to Walter Matthau. It's a light no-brainer, full of amusing surprises, for aspiring cheats who will have no clue what happens at the very end!

In the early 60s, Hollywood produced a series of sex comedies, including the Doris Day/Rock Hudson films, but this film, along with How to Murder Your Wife, is the penultimate expression of that aesthetic (The Odd Couple sort of closes the genre). Gene Kelly deserves more credit as a director for this brilliant film, which is closer to Restoration Comedy than Hollywood. Brilliantly acted, full of genuinely funny comic routines (in the age of the unfunny SNL skit, people may have forgotten that comedy is supposed to be funny, not painful). I can't recommend this film enough. A genuine gem of a comedy.

Often (misleadingly) compared to Sex and the City, The Mind of the Married Man is more like a buttoned-down Curb Your Enthusiasm or saltier Everybody Loves Raymond. Created by Mike Binder (The Upside of Anger), the HBO comedy revolves around Chicago reporter Micky (Binder), wife Donna (Sonya Walger, C.S.I.: NY), and fellow ink-stained wretches Jake (Jake Weber, Medium) and Doug (Taylor Nichols, Metropolitan). Unlike the glamorous Carrie Bradshaw, Micky's just a regular guy with a pretty decent life, but he often feels as if something's missing.

Things get off to a shaky start in the pilot when Donna finds pornography on his computer. Then he hires the impossibly leggy Missy (Ivana Milicevic, Love Actually), because he finds her attractive. He fires her for the same reason--she had become distracting--then has to rehire her, because she hadn't done anything wrong. (M. Emmet Walsh plays his droll boss, Randall.) Mickey is nothing like the adulterous Jake, but as the theme song puts it, "The neighbor's grass may seem much greener than the grass right here at home." So then Jake introduces him to sensual massage ("The God of Marriage"), which starts out innocently enough--although he neglects to tell Donna about his new "hobby." By the end of the season, Missy will have moved on, but the situation with the masseuse (Michelle Krusiec, Saving Face) will have crossed a line, leaving Micky's marriage more precarious than ever.

Aside from Binder, directors include Danny Leiner (Dude, Where's My Car?), Nancy Savoca (Household Saints), Bob Saget (The Aristocrats), and Bruce Paltrow (St. Elsewhere). Recurring characters include Larry Miller (Mad About You) as host of the TV show on which Micky regularly appears and Kathryn Morris (Cold Case) as a fellow guest. Too good to have been cancelled........2006-12-26

I thought it was a good show. Witty writing, good acting. Worse shows have been allowed to go on for many seasons--this one only got two. Hope the second season comes out soon.

For those who complain about the adult content--When a DVD is rated "Not Rated" or "Unrated" or is produced by HBO it usually is not something to watch with the kids.

Bring it back!!!.......2006-12-16

This show was the one of the best on HBO ever. I like Entourage but MOMM is better. My wife loved watching it too. If FOX brought back Family Guy after they canceled it, then HBO should do the right thing and bring Mind of the Married Man back. We only subscribe to HBO when the Sopranos are on. After the final Sopranos each season we cancel, only renewing when the new season starts up again. After the final season we'll never subscribe again, unless they bring Mind of the Married Man back.

What ever you do, don't watch this with your wife or girlfriend. For her it's only another excuse to argue with you. Watch it with your fellow male friends only. Warning: This series is so true that your woman will hate you for it.

Loved it and Miss it.......2006-06-07

I thought this was one of the best shows I'd ever seen, and like other watchers I patiently (or not so patiently) waited for season 3. Alas, it didn't ever come around, which is a real shame because I thought this was a really insightful, mature and funny piece of work. I'm so glad it is at least available for purchase!

The best show around!.......2006-05-19

I saw the show on HBO when it first came out. Even started taping them. I loved it. My wife loved it! This show was and is so much better than Curb Your Enthusiasm. Seriously. The only reason a show like this is NOT on primetime tv, is the use of language and sex. But honestly, given it is on HBO(CABLE) and not on regular tv, the people that are offended should just shut up and relax. That is WHY we have ratings! TV-MA!! Read it and relax. The show is an earlier version of Nip/Tuck, without the FX Network and without real nudity and without the Doctors!
The show should be conitnued. I hope it will be. It was funny, smart, serious and DEAD ON! Men think this way. Women act that way. The only reason it wouldn't make it again, is peope don't want to see, THEIR life on screen!
It is too real! we all know someone or someone(s) like this guy and his friends. Their wives. Their ideas, jobs, kids, and LIVES!
So, watch it. Enjoy it. And to the stuck up out there, Get a life and a FUNNY BONE!
I still laugh at the Wuiji Board and Magic Cupcake joke Mikey says to the Psychologist!

Capably crafted from beginning to end, this melodrama, with alternate titles of TRICK EYES and PORTRAIT OF A JOHN, is an Italian/U.S. co-production made for television, and will please those viewers responsive to interesting cinema. Christopher Jordan (William Shatner), an aeronautical engineer, is becoming restive due to a frustrating home life with an attractive wife, Katie (Michelle Phillips), toward whom he has become sexually indifferent (increasingly problematic since he dwells upon past intimacy), and with three lively and demanding offspring. Although Jordan wishes to keep intact their 12 year marriage, he is artless and inexperienced and begins to savour the possibilities of having assignations with street walking prostitutes. His fantasies become fact, but after some close scrapes, one with venereal disease, another with a police vice sting, Jordan ceases his clandestine copulation, albeit the marital incompatibility continues. While shopping in a lingerie store to find something fetching that could repair the cracked relationship with his spouse, Chris is boldly approached by an ostensibly stringless call girl, Elaine (Cybill Shepherd). Vulnerable Christopher quickly becomes more emotionally attached to Elaine than is wise for his general welfare, and he becomes adrift between a respectable domestic existence and an affair of lust that has a potential of becoming something larger. However, Elaine might not be as agreeable a person as she initially appears to be, and Jordan finds himself spiralling into a distressed state. Eventually, due to his hidden relationship with Elaine, Chris is in danger of losing all else that is important to him, and he is forced to make desperate choices. Perfectly paced by competent director William A. Graham, the film additionally benefits from skillful acting, Shepherd a standout as an apparently conflicted lady of the evening, while Phillips earns the performing laurels here with her nuanced reading as Katie. Attention to detail is remarkable throughout, important in the development of a strong sense of realism in the face of sleazy happenings as a well-scripted story by Dennis Nemec serves as aid to Graham, providing arresting characters for Graham to deploy without serious lapses in credibility and logic. Editor Ronald Fagan seamlessly polishes the work that is set and shot in Vancouver, British Columbia, and scoring from Mark Snow is consistently appropriate. Congratulations are in order for the entire crew, as well, an exceptional impartment coming from costumer Robert Turturice who adroitly marries the very fair Shepherd with suitable apparel as shifts in her personality occur, this but one example of an unusual amount of care that is taken during the patterning of this too-little known film.

This is a great little known romantic comedy starring William Shatner and Cybil Sheperd going through a mid-life crises.It's a must see!!

Excellent British murder mystery.......2002-12-15

I first saw this program about 15 years ago, have seen it several times since, and still regard it as one of my favorite mysteries. I believe this movie was made for British TV and it has the flavor of the PBS "Mystery" series offerings. It features a young Anthony Hopkins playing a upper middle class London barrister who is just approaching middle age, beginning to tire of his career -- and his wife. The wife is equally dissatisfied with her own life. The mystery proceeds from there. Very highly recommended for fans of British mysteries and detective programs (Prime Suspect, Touching Evil, Second Sight, Forgotten, etc.)
