Another reviewer on this page asked who has seen this show and not loved it. Well, I, for one. Look, it wasn't a bad show -- at least in the early seasons. But it got pretty bad near the end. The Helen Hunt character was whiny ("What if we're not good parents? I really want to be a good parent...whine, whine"). The series ending "flash-forward", showing the couple divorced, probably disappointed a lot of viewers; but I thought it was perfect. There's no way Paul could have stayed married to her.

5 out of 5 stars Mad About These Releases!.......2007-01-15

I am SOOOOO glad that they are releasing this series on DVD. These characters and their stories made me laugh, cry, think and heal. Pretty good for a sitcom! It was one of the smarter sitcoms to show up on the tube. The set isn't great for extras, etc., but it is just nice to have the episodes there when you need a little Mad About You! Now that Season Three is being released in a few weeks, I hope they will keep rolling them out . . . Please???

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Solely bought it for the dog........2007-02-15

Okay so it's not a large blockbuster, but I solely bought this movie for the dog. Our friends raise Tibetan Mastiffs (in case you were wondering what breed of dog the REAL Max was), and so we had to get this movie.

I found myself cheering for the dog 90% of the movie.

5 out of 5 stars Not for cat lovers.......2007-01-16

I liked this movie, it was great. I also like Lance Henriksen.

3 out of 5 stars MAAAAAXXXXXXXXX!!!!!!!!!.......2006-08-25

This movie, despite the absurd plot, really is quite enjoyable.
Basically, a dog is victimized by mad scientists to become some kind of "perfect" war machine by manipulating and extracting DNA from other animals. The result is Max: an oversized dog with an attitude that soon becomes free to roam and finds himself in the warm hands of an extreme dog lover. When I watched this movie several times I figured out in one scene why there is such a strong bond between the woman and Max. Obviously, she is into bestiality and you will see the implied act while she caresses her newfound pet on the kitchen floor. This subsequently leads to a strong jealousy between Max and the woman's human lover. She also begins to push her man away as soon as he turns on her canine lover. With this in mind the movie becomes even more comical. To add to the comic touch, is the over the top acting of the raspy-voiced Lance Henricksen whom makes this movie more watchable. This man will stop at nothing to regain control of his escaped killing machine even if it
means losing much sleep -- for no one is aware of how dangerous his mutt truly is.

Highlights: Max chasing a mailman, eating a neighborhood cat, blending into his surroundings like a chameleon and him taking apart an abusive scrapyard owner.

If you're indecisive about which genre you are in the mood for, throw in this flick, it has a little bit of everything.

3 out of 5 stars Dog Day Afternoon.......2005-07-07

A reporter stuck doing filler stories wants to break into real news. She gets a tip about animal abuse from an insider at a local corporation. She sneaks in and finds outrageous animal testing going on. One animal is a large dog that she decides to take with her. The viewer knows that this is no ordinary dog but the reporter does not see it.

Max, the dog, is actually a genetic blend of several animals thus giving it abilities beyond that of normal dogs. Max is also very intelligent. Max seems to take a real liking to the reporter and follows her direction while also following his darker purposes. The corporation's head, a scientist, is trying to get Max back as he believes Max will degenerate into a fearsome killing machine.

Whether Max is good, bad, or just very good at survival should be left for the viewer to discover. Ally Sheedy as the reporter and Lance Henricksen as the corporate head both give good performances. the plot develops very nicely and never seems to bog down in the middle the way so many do. A good horror/monster/nature-goes-wild flick.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible.......2004-10-17

This movie was a complete letdown. They tried to cross Cujo with The Terminator. Interesting concept, but the script completely lacks any real oomph. Awful film. Lance Henriksen deserved better.

Now here's a switcheroo: In a movie about a mild-mannered police photographer who is befriended by a swaggering gangster, Bill Murray plays the gangster and Robert De Niro plays the photographer. Directed by John McNaughton from a script by Richard Price, this comedy-drama has its moments but never quite lifts off. De Niro plays a shy type nicknamed Mad Dog who accidentally saves Murray's life. In gratitude, Murray "gives" him a girl, Glory (Uma Thurman), who is supposed to satisfy his needs and make him feel good. Instead, the photographer falls in love with her. When the gangster wants her back, the photographer says no, triggering an unlikely showdown. Murray is scarily funny as a mobster who wants to be a standup comic, but De Niro plays this nonentity as, well, a nonentity. Thurman is luminous; who wouldn't want to fight over her? --Marshall Fine

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Yukk!.......2006-10-15

I could not believe that a talent of the caliber of Robert De Niro could make a bad movie, but he's proved it can be done with this one. This thing is so bad it even makes Bill Murray look good, and that takes something on the order of a miracle.

I am still a big De Niro film, but I am giving this one a pass over.

De Niro Yes, Mad Dog No.

5 out of 5 stars no title.......2006-02-15

Written by the same guy who wrote "Sea of Love", with Al Pacino, this somewhat remeinded me of that movie, even before I knew the connection. Stranger, but good. Bill Murray is a marvel; you can't take your eyes off him, and that is saying something in a movie that also has Robert DeNiro, who plays a real mouse. Murray is indeed the "Expediter of his dreams".

5 out of 5 stars Unique, funny and refreshingly low-key........2005-11-03

The opening scene of director John McNaughton's 1993 low-key-comedy Mad Dog and Glory is quite deceiving. We witness some kind of a drug deal happening in a car, followed by one of the guys getting a bullet in the head spraying his brains all over the passenger side window.

I immediately double-checked the DVD box to make sure this was listed as a comedy. But I stuck with the movie and that opening scene really doesn't have much to do with the overall plot and instead serves as an introduction to the main character, a police photographer named Wayne "Mad Dog" Dobie (played in brilliantly understated fashion by Robert DeNiro).

The movie is quite funny at times, and is very low key and relaxed in its pacing. The film doesn't boast what I would call a ton of laugh-out loud moments, but it has a gentle and relaxed sense of humor that is natural and quite refreshing in this day and age of in-your-face gross out comedies.

The film involves Wayne (or Mad Dog as he's called by his friends/co-workers), who is a police photographer who really would like to be a true artist someday instead of a policeman. While in a seedy convenience store one night, he ends up saving mob boss Frank Milo's (Bill Murray) life when a thug holds up the store and almost shoots Frank.

Frank says that he will show his appreciation for what Mad Dog did for him, and ends up inviting him to Frank's club that he runs as sort of a cover for his mob organization. While in the club, Mad Dog meets the beautiful waitress Glory (a radiant Uma Thurman), who accidentally spills scalding hot coffee on Mad Dog's hand. Disgusted by her clumsiness, Frank scolds her in front of Mad Dog and says that he'll make it up to him in the near future. His way of doing that is by sending Glory to stay with Mad Dog for a week as sort of a present (since Mad Dog is a pretty lonely guy). Glory is a naive woman who has ended up being in some sort of debt to Frank, as he sort of "owns" her. She immediately makes it known to Mad Dog that she's not a prostitute, but instead wants to just be good company for him. Mad Dog ends up falling madly in love with her, as she does with him, and when the week is up he refuses to let Glory go back to Frank. Things get interesting when Frank comes looking to get her back in a most laid back and hilarious fashion. (Bill Murray is brilliant.)

What I found most interesting about this movie is that it's a unique mixture of styles. While there are some elements of a love story, the romantic aspect isn't played up nearly as much as it could have been. The movie also has some surprising outbursts of violence that strike a perfect balance between being intense and extremely funny. One interesting thing, is that other than Frank's club, we don't see him in action that much, but instead we hear about stuff that he's doing and/or done in the past. The story about why Glory is in debt to him is actually quite chilling. The movie has a quirky feel to it that was refreshing and genuinely entertaining. I was constantly not sure about what was going to happen next. There is one fairly strong sex scene between Uma and DeNiro, but it fits in with the story and actually has a point in the overall proceedings.

I particularly liked the scenes in which Mad Dog is trying to keep secret from his co-workers the fact that he's accidentally befriended a mob boss and was given Glory as a "present" from Frank.

The whole cast does superb work. Robert DeNiro and Bill Murray play their characters in hilarious understated fashion. Uma Thurman manages to come across as naive, sexy and extremely sweet and really gives the character of Glory a lot of depth and substance. People who seem to always unjustly write Uma off as not being able to act would do well to check out her nuanced performance in this film. One of the funniest characters in the movie though is David Caruso (ex. NYPD Blue) as Mad Dog's best friend and overzealous co-worker. His fist fight with one of Frank's goons in Mad Dog's apartment near the end of the movie is one of the comic highlights of the film.

The film has a very laid back feel to it. Nothing is rushed and scenes are given as much time as they need to expand. There were a few instances near the beginning where I thought that the film felt just a tiny bit lethargic, but it wasn't nothing that greatly diminished my enjoyment of the movie.

Director John McNaughton brings a light, but gritty touch to the proceedings and manages to make a couple of shifts in tone smooth and not jarring. Compare this movie to some of his other films like underrated Wild Things and the infamous Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer and it's really quite striking how he managed to bring a proper light touch to the script. He really shows how deep his directorial talents can go.

This is one of those little, unheard-of films that entered and exited theaters without hardly a sound back in 1993. It's truly an underrated gem that is worth checking out especially to see the wonderful ensemble acting by the entire cast. If it's a really quick, snappy in-your-face comedy that you're wanting to see, Mad Dog and Glory will disappoint. But if you're wanting to check out a realistic, refreshingly low-key and original comedy that will keep a steady smile on your face throughout (after you get through the violent beginning), than I highly recommend this film.

Mad Dog and Glory is rated R and contains sexual content, nudity, violence and strong language.

2 out of 5 stars Mad Dog and Glory.......2005-10-11

If this movie did not have Robert DeNiro and Bill Murray in it, you probably wouldn't finish watching it. It's hard to understand how someone would have read the script or seen the rough cut and said "people are going to come see this." The plot is standard-issue "man falls in love with hooker with heart of gold and has to save her from the mafia" stuff. DeNiro's character is not really likeable and Murray's is overplayed a little, though still fun to watch. If you don't love either of these two actors, skip it.

2 out of 5 stars Mad Dog and Glory.......2004-10-17

Dont let the catchy title and blockbuster cast of robert deniro, uma thurman, and bill murray fool you, this is a bad movie from 1993. yes despite this talent of stars, the movie is a big let down for fans of deniro's and thurmans. however bill murray gives perhaps one of his comedic/dramatic performances ever. in fact not surprising as far deniro goes though, his performance is bloody awful. some people say an actor acts "effortlessly" when he gives a good performance, however in deniro's case that seems to be opposite as their is hardly any acting all. however, this stems from the fact that most of the characters in mad dog and glory are utterly weak and pathetic, with the exception of murray.

In fact i still found the movie hard to watch despite murray's performance. the plot of the movie is that bumbling cop (deniro) name mad dog doobie stumbles onto a robbery in progress. he sees a man holding up a liquor store with a tall man (murray) as the hostage. murray's character is a riot, telling mad dog to blow away the sucker like dirty harry.

Mad dog doesn't and the assailant escapes, though i believe he is captured later on though that isn't relevant here.
Murray's character as we learn is a top and tough mafia boss named frank milo. milo is quite a character almost larger than life, he demands respect and if you cross him your dead.
milo though loves mad dog as he has just saved his life in this holdup. milo knowing that mad dog is a cop (although not a good one) offers his services as a mafia boss to mad dog.
Dobie refuses using one of the few morals he has, however milo comes up with another proposition, he wants to be dobie's "friend". lol in fact he wont take no for an answer.
dobie accepts for the mean time, not seeing any harm in that.

Milo eventually introduces the lame brain cop to his new girl "Glory" (Uma Thurman) an attractive woman who we learn is Milo's main squeeze, however better put, she is a prostitute, she is one of many objects that Milo owns".
When Dobie sees Glory and Milo offers "Glory's" services (i.e sex). Dobie refuses. It seems this cop actually lives up to his mom of being clean unlike other corrupt cops or is he?

(Some possible spoilers)

Well not exactly, despite Dobie's claim that he is a good cop and he is sworn to upload the law, he breaks his own rules and laws and decides to "borrow" Glory. When he is through with the companionship, he agrees to give her up.
Trouble is he doesn't. When Milo comes looking for Glory an altercation erupts that basically sets up the conflict and what happens in the rest of the movie. Milo wants Glory back at any price. He is willing do anything including messing up Dobie's life to do it.

I actually made that sound more interesting that it really is. "Mad Dog and Glory" is essentially a part black comedy and part dramatic film. Problem is I wasn't really in the areas I should of probably because of the set of repugnant characters on screen no matter how dysfunctional and stupid they are.

A cop who despite his own morals decides to break them when it suits em, doesnt obviously appeal to me or audience. Glorys character despite being the "victim" of sorts doesn't always come out. In a couple of scenarios her reactions dont have the reactions that a victim would have.

However as far as performances go I definitely think Uma Thurman did a much better job and any good critic could see that as her character is much more complex that Deniro's.

A woman whose caught in the middle of the bad situation and whose life depends on what she'll do next is pretty interesting. However the Glory character despite isn't as well developed as that. She gives in too easily to intimidation and greed instead of firmly making a decision one way or other.

Now the Milo character (Bill Murray) is great, in fact this character is hilarious as hell, despite his presence of being a Mafia boss, who can kill anyone at will and get away with it, hes extremely funny and clever. During one point, he fools the donut eating precint where Dobie works into thinking that he is a "baker" and that he is an old friend of Dobie's. LOL During other instances, he sends it goons to do his dirty work against Mad Dog in such a vile pathetic way that it's almost a joke. Murray is great as this character, for his performance the movie is worth watching.

However again, "Mad Dog and Glory:" is still a heavily flawed film, you kinda what your gonna get in the film and Deniro's utterly, weak, spineless and hypocritical character almost leave you feeling dry and bitter by the end of the film. Hell you want this character to die by the end of the film. It's awful, one of a long string of weak characters that Deniro would play in the 1990's up until "Analyze This".

The movie was directed by John McNaugton if you never of him that's because he's not that good. Hes made a dozen or so films however only really two stand out in my mind "Wild Things" (1998) and "Henry Portrait of A Serial Killer" (1986) with Michael Rooker which is by far the scariest and best movie about serial killers in general (forget about that trash called "Monster" with Charlize Theron) this movie is the real thing.

Uma Thurman of course is hot , she's sizzling ever since she and Quentin Tarantino, did "Kill Bill" everyone seems to be hopping on the Uma Thurman bandwagon, yet a couple of years they were writing her of after she a couple of flops like "The Avengers". Hilarious

Description

Richard Dreyfuss heads an all-star cast in this wickedly funny crime comedy that explodes with rapid-fire wit and deadly double-crosses. It's a wonderfully warped glimpse of the criminal underworld, where insanity reigns and the barbs and bullets fly. Dreyfuss is Vic, a mob boss who's crazy. Literally. After his release from a mental hospital, he returns to find that his organization is crumbling and no wonder! With friends like his, who needs enemies? There's Mickey Holiday (Jeff Goldblum), the hired gun whose lightning-fast hands have been all over Vic's girlfriend (Diane Lane); Ben London(Gabriel Byrne), the slow-witted goon who sees himself replacing Vic as the gang's mastermind (evenif no one else can see it); and the luscious Rita (Ellen Barkin), a bombshell who could detonate atany moment. Vic struggles to 'restore the balance, but as he sorts through the myriad of loopy schemes against him, one thing becomes clear: he may be the only one who isn't crazy! With appearancesby Gregory Hines, Burt Reynolds and Kyle MacLachlan, Trigger Happy is a comedy masterwork! (American Urban Radio Networks).

5 out of 5 stars The Stuff Cult Films Are Made Of.......2007-03-06

1996's MADS DOG TIME is quirky fun. This little hoodlum black comedy is the stuff cult films are made of. Unorthodox at best, this film contains a great cast and very interesting characters. The cast truly is fantastic including Richard Dreyfuss, Gabriel Byrne, Jeff Goldblum, Burt Reynolds, Henry Silva, Joey Bishop, Diane Lane, Ellen Barkin, Kyle MacLachlan, Michael J. Pollard, Richard Pryor, Paul Anka, Gregory Hines and the long lost enigmatic Christopher Jones not seen since RYAN'S DAUGHTER. Larry Bishop produced, directed and wrote this wild screenplay. The more you watch it, the more you see. Highly underrated.

A surprisingly great movie w/ countless named stars in support roles.

5 out of 5 stars Sexy.......2006-03-23

This is one of the sexiest movies around. The characters are bigger than life. If you like the old Rat Pack movies with Frank, Dean and the gang then you'll love this. The scene with Billy Idol and Jeff Goldblum is hilarious.

4 out of 5 stars Gangsters make the world go Around........2005-03-13

MDT is a gem. Bizarre and very funny. If you like any of the actors in this film, and you have a taste for the bizarre and dark humor, chances are you'll find a lot to love here. Dreyfuss, Goldblum, MacLachlan, Reynolds, Silva, Byrne are all great. Be the first in your mob to discover this.

5 out of 5 stars Strange Gems.......2004-11-16

I happen to like MAD DOG TIME (or TRIGGER HAPPY as I first knew it) very much indeed, but I like a great many strange and flawed films.

It seems to me that the makers of this film are poking fun at both the harmless gangsters of GUYS AND DOLLS and ROBIN AND THE SEVEN HOODS, and at the High Seriousness of THE GODFATHER and its progeny. I know of only one Gangster film that surpasses it in outright weirdness - ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA - and the only one that is more darkly comic is GOODFELLAS, which most people treat as serious drama.

If you ever scoffed at the good hearted gangsters of the '50's and 60's musicals, or laughed at the pretensiousness of 70's and 80's gangster noir, you may like this film a lot. Or you may hate it. It is a very peculiar vision, and not to all tastes. But don't dismiss it without a look. There will probably never be another film anything like it.

3 out of 5 stars Antique Collectors..........2002-11-29

Greed and revenge are at the heart of director Oz Scott's, Spanish Judges, an offbeat crime drama. Jack (Matthew Lillard) is a criminal type, hired by a wealthy collector to steal the "Spanish Judges" a valuable antique collector's item. Things don't go well for Jack, when the "Judges" are stolen first by another group of criminals, and he unfairly faces the violent wrath of his employer.

Max (Vincent DiOnofrio) is a small time hustler, with big ideas about his place in the world. A recent streak of bad luck, is but a temporary setback on his path to becoming a "successful man". A collector of fine antiques, he returns to his apartment, to find that his girlfriend Jamie (Valeria Golino) has home invader Jack, tied to a chair in the middle of his collection. In a conversation on the roof of the building, Jack claims that he has recovered the mysterious "Judges", and plans to exchange them for a million in cash. In return for watching his back during the swap, Jack promises Max and Jamie, a share of the loot. Short on cash, and in need of a breakout score, the pair agree to take part in the nebulous scheme.

Piece (Mark Boone Junior), a trigger happy, criminal associate of Max, is also cut into the deal to provide added muscle. Piece's companion, a strange childlike waif, who believes she is from another planet, and is known only as "Mars Girl" (Tamara Mello), completes the rag tag group. Jack is obviously not telling the whole truth, and actively attempts to influence the dynamics between, Max and Jamie, playing to each of their weaknesses and insecurities. All is not what it appears, and soon chaos will erupt among the inept band of criminals.

The scheduled exchange takes place, and things take a violent turn. In the aftermath, things quickly start to unravel, and greed takes over. The truth about the "Judges" is revealed, and the mysterious girl from Mars, shows that she may indeed have some strange powers, as both Max and Jack, loose focus at critical moments.

Spanish Judges is a quirky little tale, that at its finish, seems to answer most of the questions we may have. The characters are certainly odd, and not particularly likeable, but do strangely come across as believable. Matthew Lillard gives an interesting performance as a man engaged in constant manipulation. And Vincent DiOnofrio"s (TV's Law and Order Criminal Intent) performance as the whining, self absorbed Max, has an enjoyable "theatrical" quality to it. If you like crime stories with a twist, you may want to check this out. Not great by any means, but not a complete waste either.

Description

Rock Hudson stars in this science fiction story of an experiment gone very wrong. He plays a scientist who decides to create a human from basic genetic material. The result is lovely Barbara Carrera (the sexy villainess of 'Never Say Never Again') in the role of the creature grown from an embryo. Although beautiful, she displays not only her physical charms but aberrant and definitely homicidal behavior. As she becomes more erratic, the enamored doctor is faced with perhaps destroying his own creation. Roddy McDowall and Diane Ladd also star in this unusual tale mixing sex with science. Running time: Approx. 106 minutes Includes the original theatrical trailer! Approx. 2 minutes

Bonus Material: Beautiful women turned into monsters (and vice versa!) has been a popular theme in horror and science fiction movies. Usually the spawn of mad science (other times, ancient curses), these tales give a new twist to the concept of Beauty and the Beast. Here is a selection of original theatrical trailers and film clips from movies on the subject of naturally beautiful women created by unnatural means. Features the transformation sequence of the robot into a woman's guise in METROPOLIS, mad scientists turning panthers and apes into women and back again, FRANKENSTEIN-wrought damsels made from spare parts, and beauties conjured up by computer nerds. Also included are two versions of THE CAT PE0PLE stories, with females turned felines! A fabulous film fest of fantastic femmes fatales! Approx. 25 minutes

3 out of 5 stars JACK COLVIN...Oscar Moment????.......2005-02-19

The scene with Rock Hudson in which Jack Colvin (playing Dr. Winston)was torn between medical ethics and mere trust in a dear friend is the pivotal moment in this film. The excruciating agony in which Dr. Winston is debating in his subconscious is no doubt evident in this accomplished actors face. Dr. Winston makes no promise at that time but we can tell that an internal battle will be raging within him until his final decision can be made. Later Dr. Winston, in full operating gear, calls Rock to inform him that he's got what Rock's looking for. Fatigue and uncertainty is worn well on the actors face, for the result( as later we learn) could be disastrous.
Jack Colvin, the greatest character actor of the 20th and possibly the 21st century hits another homerun in this "pre-Jack Mcgee" performance. I believe before Rock Hudson passed on he was quoted as saying, "One of the greatest accomplishments of my life was working with the legendary Jack Colvin."

3 out of 5 stars Barbara Carrera, Where Art Thou?.......2004-08-13

EMBRYO is about Dr. Paul Holliston (Rock Hudson), a scientist who has recently lost his wife (also a scientist). Holliston hits a doberman with his car (a 3 ton cadillac) on his way home one stormy night. He rushes the dog home to his lab, where he is unable to save her. However, the doberman is pregnant, so the good doctor keeps the doggy fetus alive, injecting it with an experimental growth hormone. The little canine grows at an amazing rate, reaching adulthood within hours! Holliston names the dog "Number One" and is astonished by it's intelligence (the dog gets it's own food out of the fridge, drops the empty bowl in the sink, opens doors, etc.). Unbeknownst to the doc, Number One also has a mean streak, as is displayed when it kills another dog and hides it's body. Of course, Holliston thinks everything's great, and soon looks for a human fetus to try his serum on. He gets his chance when another doctor helps him acquire a fetus from a doomed prostitute. Back in the lab, Dr. H. performs his latest experiment with similar results. He watches as the fetus grows up at super-speed. Next thing he knows, he's got an adult woman on his hands (Barbara Carrera), with superior intellectual powers matched only by her exotic beauty. Some of the best parts of the movie come when she is busy absorbing knowledge. Named "Victoria", she is introduced at a party as Holliston's new assistant. In one fun scene, Victoria plays an arrogant chess master (Roddy McDowall) to a humiliating finish. Unfortunately, things get serious when Victoria starts getting sick and figures out that she is not long for this world. This causes her to seek out the method by which she can stay alive, at the expense of others. A pretty good mad scientist thriller, EMBRYO has enough creepy / funny moments to keep my interest...

A high-energy and wildly comic reinterpretation of Pinocchio, Teacher's Pet: The Movie follows Spot (voiced by Nathan Lane), a dog who desperately wants to be a boy, much to the chagrin of his owner Leonard (Shaun Fleming), who just wants to play with his dog. Disguised as his human alter ego Scott, Spot heads down to Florida in the hopes of being transformed by a mad scientist (Kelsey Grammer)--but the transformation proves to be more complicated than Spot expects. Teacher's Pet almost looks like it was drawn in crayon--the unusual and dynamic visual style sets it apart from most Disney cartoons, and the witty dialogue and songs--voiced with zip and aplomb--make the movie hugely entertaining for kids and parents. Also featuring the voices of Jerry Stiller, Paul Reubens, Megan Mullaly, David Ogden Stiers, and Wallace Shawn. --Bret Fetzer

Description

Disney creates a whole new breed of comedy with a character unlike any other. Meet Spot, a clever little dog with big dreams of becoming a real boy in Disney's hilarious critical favorite The New York Times calls "marvelously quick-witted and gloriously goofy." When Spot finds out that a crazy scientist can make his wish come true, he takes a cross-country trek with his best friend and master Leonard and their mom. However, Dr. Krank's experiments are a little less than perfect, and it will take Leonard and his pet pals to right this genetic wrong. This offbeat animated adventure has "something for everyone, parents and children alike," raves The Washington Post. Make no bones about it -- your whole family will be begging for more!

3 out of 5 stars Passable Feature Length Film of my FAVORITE cartoon.......2007-04-19

The cast is as brilliant as ever, but there really isn't enough plot to hold this together for a feature length film. It's never as "laugh so hard you think you'll pee yourself" funny as the cartoons were - nor is there as much in it for the adults as there was in the cartoon. The message is simple - "be careful what you wish for" - and I suppose that's fine, it's just that with the acting range of all the voice talents, and the superb quality of the tv series, I was expecting more. This is not at all to say it sucked - it's plenty funny, and I made it through the whole thing, but I haven't memorized it like I have with other recent animation classics like Shrek, and I have no great desire to watch it again.

Personally, I'm waiting for the anthology of the series, that's what I really am looking forward to. I LOVE to watch the monkeys dance!

5 out of 5 stars Great Movie.......2006-01-19

This movie is soooo FUNNY!! I love the music is Awsome!!

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous!!!.......2005-10-27

First of all, let me say that as an adult, I had an absolute BLAST watching this movie! It is one of the funniest, most clever cartoons I have seen in a long time and I absolutely adore Gary Baseman's unique, whimsical animation. The cast, including Nathan Lane and Kelsey Grammar did a wonderful job of bringing their characters to life and song. There's really nothing else I can say except to see this little gem of a movie.
Lastly, I am absolutely ASTOUNDED by the viewers who did not like this movie. I will stop there.

1 out of 5 stars Awful, Horrible, Condescending, non-Family "movie".......2005-08-21

What has happened to Disney? If this is indicative of what has become of the creative minds at Disney studios, then more than a few people should be replaced for allowing this waste of money, time, and brain cells to be foisted onto the public. Virtually every frame drips with pretentious edginess and overarching condescension in pursuit of hipness. Last night my 4 kids (from 4-9) had 2 other friends over to settle down for a fun movie night (they are great critics whose idea of a fantastic movie is "the Incredibles", "the Lion King" or "Ice Age"). They could not stand the movie, and neither could we. (As for the adults who rave this film as "clever"; an average Simpson's epsode is light years more clever than this waste, and that series doesn't pretend to be for children.)

3 out of 5 stars thought this movie was for kids!.......2004-09-02

I was disappointed in this movie. I love Nathan Lane and musicals, so I was prepared to be dazzled. Sadly, it was not to be.

The kids were puzzled (10, 8 and 4 years old),because many of the jokes and vocabulary were geared for adults. We liked the story line, it had tremendous voice talent. (I have no need to describe the plot as many others have already done so.) The real disappointment was the animation, the characters were really ugly, the facial expressions lacking.

The characters were not enjoyable - they were not likeable. The kids were quiet trying to figure it out! I would not spend the money to buy it, it's barely worth renting.

Description

When a soft-spoken detective saves the life of a local gangster, he receives an unusual thank-you present: a week with a beautiful young bartender. They fall in love, however and a murderous showdown looms!

Hilarious

1 out of 5 stars Wrong aspect ratio on Troma DVD transfer.......2006-01-03

The film was originally shot in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio. But this 2005 DVD release from Troma Entertainment presents the film in a 1.66:1 aspect ratio print cropped directly from the "pan and scan" full-screen print that was made for VHS releases. The film has never been seen in its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio since its theatrical release.

3 out of 5 stars A fine movie that deserves a better DVD.......2005-09-08

Mad Dog Morgan is a real rarity, which is a great shame, because Philip Mora's film has much to recommend it and deserves much better than a dodgy cropped transfer on the Troma label. More a chronicle of the exploits of `Mad Dog' Morgan, the bushranger who inspired Ned Kelly, than a conventional narrative, it's a non-judgemental portrait of an inconsistent, unpredictable man - after going to great lengths to deny he'll ever "be made a murderer," he then becomes one almost immediately when he drunkenly sets his gun off, wounding his host, and then hurrying off to kill the man that he himself has just sent after a doctor. It's very much a seventies film (in the best sense), with a sense of the violence of both the landscape and the people trying to eke a living from it, and it constantly surprises with neat little details such as the magistrate who doles out long sentences simply because there are still so many roads to build. Despite being at the height of his drugs-and-booze lost period, Dennis Hopper gives a pretty good performance as the naïve and contradictory folk hero cum psychopath, even managing a fairly convincing Irish accent. There's an impressive supporting cast of familiar Aussie faces, not least Gulpilil as Morgan's beloved partner in crime and Frank Thring at his most superciliously unpleasant as the Superintendant: few actors could seem more natural when he and his social circle start casually divvying up Morgan's body parts in the final scene (the head for an anthropologist, the scrotum for the Superintendant's new tobacco pouch). Although not overly graphic, it's still fairly strong meat.
