Description

Coyotes is a wonderful movie that weaves the dynamics of relationships, cultures, families and expectations into a story both simple and complex. The main characters portray the basic human yearning to belong as they stumble over obstacles toward the surprising resolution to their dilemmas. The setting is beautifully captured by the stunning cinematography and the acting is sweetly subtle, supported by concise dialog and understated expressions. This is a great movie to have on hand for home viewing with guests and those who delight in undiscovered movie gems.

A Rare Film - Tender and Moving.......2005-05-18

This is a very special film. It touches the heart without being maudlin or sappy. Produced in a simple, straight-forward style, "Coyotes" is nonetheless extremely effective. There is no need for bells and whistles; character depth effectively conveys the heartfelt and sometimes bittersweet love between a father and daughter. As the story shows, there is a time when we all have to accept our parents (or other loved ones) for what they are and let go of our childhood ideals of how they should be. The fact that this not only doesn't erode the affection between the two comes through clear as a bell. Indeed, sometimes, if we're lucky, the love only grows deeper.

Viva Mexico.......2005-05-12

I thoroughly enjoyed this sensitive and thoughtful road movie. The father- daughter relationship works well thanks to an impressive performance by young Kirsten Carmody. From a Hispanic viewer's perspective, I found the portrayal of Mexico as a place of welcoming refuge and familial bonds a refreshing departure from it's common depiction of corruption and poverty. Beautifully shot.

Nice Little Movie.......2005-05-12

This is not the kind of movie I usually watch because it has no major stars or big action, but my daughter bought it, and our whole family loved it. Good story, subtle acting, interesting views of southwest.

Timely and Touching.......2005-05-12

The complexities of a father/teen-aged daughter's relationship are believably explored via the backdrop of the timely and arguable topic of illegal immigration. Sympathetic and realistic characters are portrayed through thoroughly convincing acting. A story definitely worth seeing...and sharing. Coyotes defines a new genre of storytelling in the mode of a modern,classic short story (ala Raymond Carver type characters) on film.

Two Coyotes - what a ride!!!
I absolutely recommend this film to anyone who wants to escape there safe world and see what really goes on in the twisted underworld of drugs. A true gangster flick that is not sensationalized through Hollywoods magic eye. It is very true to life, which gets a little scary at times. Jose Bencomo Reyes, did not leave anything out, he hits you with a bat and shows you what happens when you mix love, hate, greed, betrayal, power, fear, jelousy and money in the mix with drugs and relationships in streets of LA. There are no heros in this one, but the performances will blow you away.
Nico Guilak is brilliant and gives an outstanding performance as Carlos. He is able to capture sympathetic moments that will make you actually care about this ruthless, dangerous killer.
Jorge Cordova is also wonderful as Raffaiel, a man coming into power and wanting more to the point of no return.
This film was very cool. The relationships were the key elements in the backdrop of the mexican underworld. You should check it out. I have a feeling this one will become a cult classic.
