Produced by Edward Norton and Naomi Watts, The Painted Veil works well as a movie--even better as an actor's showcase. The year is 1925. When her domineering mother pressures her to marry, Kitty (Watts) settles for shy bacteriologist Walter (Norton). Then Walter is transferred from London to Shanghai and the lonely and bored Kitty drifts into an affair with married diplomat Charlie (Liev Schreiber). When Walter finds out, he makes a startling proposition: either Kitty accompanies him to the cholera-infested countryside or he'll divorce her. With no other prospects, she comes along on what looks like a double-suicide mission. Based on the novel by W. Somerset Maugham, The Painted Veil was adapted by Philadelphia's Ron Nyswaner (who knows a little something about infectious diseases). As two previous versions made little impact--despite Garbo's presence in the 1934 melodrama--John Curran's film is sure to stand as definitive. Interestingly, Norton, who studied Chinese history at Yale, chose Watts as his co-star, while Watts chose Curran, for whom she appeared in 2004's underrated We Don't Live Here Anymore. Filmed on location, the handsome production is, in many respects, just as old-fashioned as its source material--sex is merely suggested and Kitty is shocked that their English neighbor (Toby Jones) has a Chinese lover--but the ending packs a feminist twist. Mostly though, The Painted Veil is about the acting, and Watts and Norton, along with Diana Rigg as a disillusioned Mother Superior, have rarely been better. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Description

Based on the classic novel by W. Somerset Maugham, "The Painted Veil" is a love story set in the 1920s that tells the story of a young English couple, Walter, a middle class doctor and Kitty, an upper-class woman, who get married for the wrong reasons and relocate to Shanghai, where she falls in love with someone else. When he uncovers her infidelity, in an act of vengeance, he accepts a job in a remote village in China ravaged by a deadly epidemic, and takes her along. Their journey brings meaning to their relationship and gives them purpose in one of the most remote and beautiful places on earth.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars underrated.......2007-07-03

The Painted Veil is another gem to come out this year that was not widely advertised. I found the cast, the scenery, and the story to be different and entertaining. This is not an extremely fast-paced movie, but it was produced with some serious craftsmanship by the two main actors. They did a great job and Liev Schreiber was a nice added touch.

4 out of 5 stars Subtle film, but good........2007-07-03

A bit underwhelming in terms of script, but the acting is superb. The lighting is also excellent.

5 out of 5 stars Spellbinding.......2007-07-03

I have watched this movie three times in the last 24 hours. Everything about it is beautiful and tragic and haunting. I have always been a fan of Edward Norton's, but beginning with The Illusionist and now with this movie, I see how powerful and deep the emotions he portrays are. Both he and Naomi Watts are so perfect for this story, I literally cannot stop thinking about it.

4 out of 5 stars A moving story of estrangement & reconciliation..........2007-07-01

This is a slow paced but beautiful film about marital betrayal, estrangement, reconciliation, forgiveness and love. The cinematography is spectacular, as most of the movie was shot on location in China. Edward Norton and Naomi Watts do a good job as the couple with the tortured relationship. Its pacing and theme will prompt many to dismiss it as a "Chick Flick," but that label does not do justice to this fine movie.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent!.......2007-07-01

I just wanted to give this movie the 5 stars it deserves. I absolutely loved this movie - everything about it was perfect, even it's slow pace which some complain about. Sometimes a movie has to move slowly in order to evoke a certain sense in the viewer. If you want to be totally transported to a different and interesting time and place, then see this movie.

5 out of 5 stars Hell has frozen over........2007-07-05

It is about damn time this movie is released on DVD. For those of you who havent seen this outstanding film, it is a horror movie for kids that like a lot of 80s movies really pushes the envelope with a pg13 rating. Next to Goonies this is without question the best action/suspense movie ever made for kids. It has humor, scares and a little gore for the adults. Buy it. You will thank me.

5 out of 5 stars FINALLY!!! .......2007-07-04

I can't thank Lionsgate and the cast and crew enough for bringing back my favorite childhood movie. This movie has so much character!! I bought the VHS a few years ago on ebay but was disappointed with the conditon it was in. Now I can't wait to get my hands on the 20th anniversary edition. yippie!!!

5 out of 5 stars AND GREAT MUSIC !!!.......2007-07-03

Yes, this is a great fun picture, but the added extra is the bombastic and emtionally-charged orchestral score composed and conducted by Bruce Broughton (Silverado, Young Sherlock Holmes, etc.). Can't wait to hear it finally on DVD.

5 out of 5 stars Monster Squad Has Nards!.......2007-06-30

When I look back on the decade that I grew up in {The 1980s} afew things come to mind.Bad Hair Styles and Great Movies.
I know most people who think of 80s movies usually think E.T.,Gremlins,Ghost Busters,Back to Future,John Hughes and Nightmare on Elm Street.Myself being one of them...but ontop of all those I think MONSTER SQUAD!!
The MS came out when I was 12 years old {pretty much the same age as the squad themselves} and it instantly became apart of my childhood that I will always cherish. The film just has Movie Magic,it has memorable kids, funny lines, good special effects and all the classic universal monsters, what more could a kid ask for in a fun adventure movie.
Its too bad this movie never got the respect that the goonies got,it does have its core audience though, but I rarely hear anybody say MS is one of there favorite 80s films.
Welp since I never hear it Im here to say it:THE MONSTER SQUAD IS NOT ONLY ONE OF MY FAVORTIE 80S FILMS,ITS ONE OF MY FAVORITE FILMS EVER AND this DvD is a blessing.TMS Kicks alot of Monster Butt!!

5 out of 5 stars Easily one of my favorite movies...finally on DVD! "My name...is Horace!".......2007-06-28

Everybody has favorite movies from their childhood. I grew up in the 80s (was born right in 1980 to be exact), and that decade produced some of the best pop culture phenomenons of all time. The Monster Squad is a rare, often completely overlooked gem from that decade which, to those who have seen it, is just as wonderful as the more "popular" Goonies, Ghostbusters, and Gremlins (to name a few) movies. Simply stated, I adore this film.

The film holds up remarkably well: it's funny because it's well-written, not because it's corny and dated. The kid stars, none of whom are really famous now, were all excellent and deliver their lines with great comic timing. This is not a "so bad it's good" type of movie: this is the real deal; genuinely funny, scary, and complete with excellent makeup effects by Stan Winston. I also love this movie because not everyone's seen it, like some of the aforementioned 80s films, and it's great to be able to recommend a film from this time period that a large cult following considers a classic to friends.

I have a VHS tape of THe Monster Squad (a prized possession), purchased probably in 1988 or 89, and the video is extremely faded from countless multiple viewings. In fact, it may be my single
"most watched" movie, and I can quote it almost line by line.

I don't remember ever seeing any behind the scenes specials on the film, so I'm looking forward to those the most, not to mention a remastered digital version of the greatest "kids vs. monsters" movie of all time!

"It's a spider, with a human head. It eats dogs, and cats...and rabbits..."

So many quotes, so little time. Go out, find your "Stephen King Rules" shirt, make sure there's no Mummy in your closet, guard your twinkie from the Creature, and watch The Monster Squad on July 24th. You will NOT be disappointed.

The spirit of Motown runs through the long-awaited film adaption of the Broadway musical Dreamgirls, which centers around a young female singing trio who burst upon the music scene in the '60s, complete with bouffant hairdos, glitzy gowns, and a soul sound new to the white-bread American music charts. Sound familiar? You aren't the first one to draw comparisons to the meteoric rise of the Supremes, and despite any protests to the contrary, this is most definitely a thinly veiled reinterpretation of that success story. The Dreamettes--statuesque Deena (Beyonce Knowles), daffy Lorell (Anika Noni Rose) and brassy Effie (Jennifer Hudson)--are a girl group making the talent-show rounds when they're discovered by car salesman and aspiring music manager Curtis Taylor Jr. (Jamie Foxx). Sensing greatness (as well as a new marketing opportunity) Curtis signs the Dreamettes as backup singers for R&B star James "Thunder" Early (Eddie Murphy). But when Early's mercurial ways and singing style don't mesh with primarily white audiences, Curtis moves the newly-renamed Dreams to center stage--with Deena as lead singer in place of Effie. And that's not the only arena in which Effie is replaced, as Curtis abandons their love affair for a relationship with star-in-the-making Deena.

Besides the Supremes comparison, one can't talk about Dreamgirls now without revisiting its notorious Oscar snub; though it received eight nominations, the most for any film from 2006, it was shut out of the Best Picture and Director races entirely. Was the oversight justified? While Dreamgirls is certainly a handsomely mounted, lovingly executed and often vibrant film adaptation, it inspires more respect than passion, only getting under your skin during the musical numbers, which become more sporadic as the film goes on. Writer-director Bill Condon is definitely focused on recreating the Motown milieu (down to uncanny photographs of Knowles in full Diana Ross mode), he often forgets to flesh out his characters, who even on the Broadway stage were underwritten and relied on powerhouse performances to sell them to audiences. (Stage fans will also note that numerous songs are either truncated or dropped entirely from the film.) Condon has assembled a game cast, as Knowles does a canny riff on the essence of Diana Ross' glamour (as opposed to an all-out impersonation) and Rose makes a peripheral character surprisingly vibrant; only Foxx, who never gets to pour on the charisma, is miscast. Still, there are two things even the most cranky viewers will warm to in Dreamgirls: the performances of veteran Eddie Murphy and newcomer Jennifer Hudson. Murphy is all sly charm and dazzling energy as the devilish Early, who's part James Brown, part Little Richard, and all showman. And Hudson, an American Idol contestant who didn't even make the top three, makes an impressive debut as the larger-than-life Effie, whose voice matches her passions and stubbornness. Though she sometimes may seem too young for the role, Hudson nails the movie's signature song, "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," with a breathtaking power that must be seen and heard to believe. And for those five minutes, if not more, you will be in Dreamgirls' thrall. --Mark Englehart

On the DVD
The two-disc edition of Dreamgirls includes videos, documentaries and other behind-the-scenes features. Diehard fans will love the almost two-hour "Building the Dream" documentary, which goes into loving detail about how the film got to be made. But it's the shorter segments that really capture the viewer's attention. The two auditions included in the set are a contrast in style. Pop singer Beyonce Knowles sells herself in full hair, makeup and costume; that she is a tad pitchy at times is almost beside the point. Tony Award winner Anika Noni Rose's audition is a tour de force; singing strong and with conviction and passion, Rose is fully in character regardless of the fact that she isn't dressed for the role. Oddly enough, the audition tape of Jennifer Hudson, who won an Academy Award for her breakthrough role as Effie, is nowhere to be seen. Sure, we all know what a powerhouse she is today. But it would've been nice to see what the filmmakers saw in her back then, when her competition included her American Idol castmate (and that season's winner) Fantasia Barrino. Hudson's performance of "Effie, Sing My Song"--which was not seen in the theatrical release--is included in this set, as are 12 extended musical numbers. Another nice touch is the inclusion of a dance rehearsal choreographed by Fatima Robinson (who has worked with the Backstreet Boys, Mary J. Blige, and Michael Jackson). Watching the rudimentary piece (with stand-ins subbing for the stars) come together gives the viewer appreciation for the intricate work that goes into each 3-minute musical number in the 130-minute film. Also included are a sequence of enhanced storyboards, a look at how the film's editor went about editing the picture, and a look at how the costumes played a part in the film. --Jae-Ha Kim

Product Description

Director Bill Condon brings Tom Eyen's Tony award-winning Broadway musical to the big screen in a tale of dreams, stardom, and the high cost of success in the cutthroat recording industry. The time is the 1960s, and singers Effie (Jennifer Hudson), Lorrell (Anika Noni Rose), and Deena (Beyoncé Knowles) are about to find out just what it's like to have their wildest dreams come true. Discovered at a local talent show by ambitious manager Curtis Taylor Jr. (Jamie Foxx), the trio known as "the Dreamettes" is soon offered the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of opening for popular singer James "Thunder" Early (Eddie Murphy). Subsequently molded into an unstoppable hit machine by Taylor and propelled into the spotlight as "the Dreams," the girls quickly find their bid for the big time taking priority over personal friendship as Taylor edges out the ultra-talented Effie so that the more beautiful Deena can become the face of the group. Now, as the crossover act continues to dominate the airwaves, the small-town girls with big-city dreams slowly begin to realize that the true cost of fame may be higher than any of them ever anticipated.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely SUPREME!!!!!.......2007-07-05

There are three people that comes to mind everytime I see this movie, Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard and Diana Ross, known to the world as THE SUPREMES! Everyone is this film is absolutely fabulous. Beyonce, Anika and Jennifer were flawless! Jennifer Hudson deserved every bit of that OSCAR! Beyonce took my breath away and Anika stole my heart. Eddie Murphy was a GENIOUS in this movie! The entire production was incomparable, great music, awesome visuals. Thank YOU! It was about time a good movie was made on times like this. You wont be dissapointed!

1 out of 5 stars Two Hours of Screaming!.......2007-07-05

This movie is terrible. I'm not surprised it made its way so fast to DVD - 2 hours of screaming - I don't call it singing. None of the songs had a melody, does not compare to Diana Ross and the Supremes, if this is what this story was supposed to be about. I turned it off 1 1/4 hour into the DVD - couldn't care less what happened to the characters. It seems people either hated or loved this one - I couldn't stand it. So far the worse movie I watched in 2007.

5 out of 5 stars Best Picture.......2007-07-01

I just watched this movie an hour ago. Obviously the folks who vote for the Oscars were incorrect. Well, consider the fact that Jennifer Hudson was voted out pretty early in American Idol. That was a precedent. I knew how good Hudson was back then. Well, at least Hudson deservedly has an Oscar now but the movie should have won Best Picture simply because it WAS.

As a biracial person, I love how this was a Black movie. The producer/director did not find the need to put in a white character that the wider/whiter audience could relate to. If the movie was released even 10 or 15 years ago that may have occurred.

The movie didn't need a white character because anyone can relate to the various themes that the movie covered: ambition, love, entrepreneurship, exploitation, drug use/abuse, family, hurt, pain, pregancy, welfare/unemployment, fame, racism, fatphobia/sizism and of course, music - from the chitlin' circuit through disco.

And Eddie Murphy. Unbelievable. I haven't been a fan of his for YEARS - since SNL circa early '80s - so I was stunned to see his performance. Wow, what a stroke of genius in casting Murphy in that role!

Jennifer Hudson's "And I Am Telling You" was incredible. It may wind up being a landmark in movie history just as we remember how Jennifer Holliday made the song famous in the Broadway version.

5 out of 5 stars And I am Tellin' You You are Going To LOVE this film!!!!.......2007-06-28

Our last Musical movie was the Phantom of the Opera. That one was spectacular, but this one will absolutely take your breath away. It's wide open sets, and absolutely lush voices will have you dancing in your underwear.
Henry Kreiger's amazing musical about three, well four girls, who have a dream is heartbreaking, and moving. The plot is not very rich on the surface, but like an ice cream cake. THe heart of the story is what really matters most.
Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce Knowles, and Anikki Nonni Rose Are astouding. They lay thier notes out better than anyone in the odern world of Motown. And as Jennifer said "Simon, YOU WERE WRONG." and actually,(and almost eriely) Her (Jennifer's) storie mirror's her character very well. And so does Beyonce's caracter.
Jamie Fox, and Eddie Murphie are both astounding. And the man who plays James Thunder Early's Producer (and later Effie's Helper) is wonderful and fatherly. The Language is abounding, but it is not overbearing, like in Black Hawk Down.
So I give a 857345793453 stars out of 5.
WONDERFUL BUY IT AND THE DELUXE CD AND DRTEAM ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

5 out of 5 stars A must see and own for any Supremes Fan.......2007-06-28

I have watched this movie 6 times, and never get tired or bored with it. The music/score is great, Jennifer Hudson shines, as does Beyonce and Eddie Murphy.
This is one of my favorite films ever.

Now, as the crossover act continues to dominate the airwaves, the small-town girls with big-city dreams slowly begin to realize that the true cost of fame may be higher than any of them ever anticipated.

4 out of 5 stars Ended too soon........2007-06-28

The end of the series left me wanting more and these helped but I still would like to see more - The Center has so much potential to go in different directions that they could easily do a season on Angelo - get more into Broots and his background/history.

5 out of 5 stars THE PRETENDER - WE MISS YOU.......2007-06-27

BEFORE SEEING THE MOVIES, I SUGGEST YOU BUY OR RENT THE COMPLETE 4 SEASONS OF THE PRETENDER FIRST.
THE STORYLINES ARE GREAT AND I LOVED THE SERIES AND LOVED THE MOVIES.
WISH IT WOULD COME BACK!

3 out of 5 stars Awesome they finally came out on DVD, still left without enough answers!!!!!!!!.......2007-06-27

They were pretty good, basically long episodes. They were definetely worth buying and I would strongly recommend them to any Jarod fan. I loved them but was disapointed with the lack of revealed secrets. Hopefully they will bring back either more movies or a second series run would be even better, I wont hold my breath.

4 out of 5 stars Pretender Movies.......2007-06-12

It is great to finally have the whole Pretender series on video, however I still wish they could have finished up series, even with another movie or two.

4 out of 5 stars Sorry to say Goodbye.......2007-06-11

I purchased these because I had already watched the entire CD collection of the series and hoped for some closure. I read reviews that hinted at "don't bother", but I am glad that I listened to my own counsel.

It's true that the conclusion invites more episodes, and that's too bad, but I did learn some of the answers to my questions. And I laughed and cried. So all in all it was worth the money.

Helen Mirren's Elizabeth I could almost be cousin to her Jane Tennison. Like the dedicated detective chief inspector, Queen Bess is not without a heart, but work comes first and any romantic entanglements are doomed to fail. Fortunately, she has her friendships. Directed by Tom Hooper (Prime Suspect 6), this two-part HBO/Channel 4 tele-film begins in 1579. The Virgin Queen has been on the throne for 20 years, but has not married. Her closest relationship is with Robert Dudley, the Earl of Leicester (Jeremy Irons), whom the council will not allow her to wed. Because Robert wishes to produce an heir, he marries another, garnering Elizabeth's disfavor (and nor is he all that thrilled about her dalliance with Henry, the Duke of Anjou). In time, he'll return to her good graces. As she explains, "Friendship outlasts love and is stronger than love." Then, as his health begins to fails, she'll turn to his stepson, the dashing, if duplicitous Robert Devereaux, the Earl of Essex (Hugh Dancy, the Hooper-directed Daniel Deronda). Meanwhile, Mary, Queen of Scots (Barbara Flynn) plots against her Protestant cousin. Even after Mary makes her exit, plenty of other powerful Catholics will stop at nothing to seize the crown. Marked as much by triumph as tragedy, the role of Elizabeth I has been catnip for many illustrious actresses, notably Bette Davis, Glenda Jackson, and Cate Blanchett. Mirren's multi-faceted portrayal of the queen's golden years is a worthy addition to that canon and Irons is a particularly formidable foil. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Description

Helen Mirren and Jeremy Irons star in Elizabeth I, a two-part HBO Films miniseries event that explores the intersection of the private and public life of Elizabeth I (Mirren) in the latter half of her reign, offering a personal look at her allies, her enemies and her suitors as she struggles to survive in a male-dominated world. Part 1 explores Elizabeth's tempestuous relationship with the Earl of Leicester (Irons) as it survives a French suitor, war, treason, and illness. Part 2 follows Elizabeth through her later years, during which she had an equally passionate affair with the young, ambitious Earl of Essex (Hugh Dancy), who had been raised, ironically, by his stepfather Leicester. In the end, Elizabeth I sheds light on one of the most popular members of the monarchy who held absolute power over everything... except her heart.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A great actress.......2007-07-04

Helen Mirren does a wonderful job of acting in this movie (as well as others). Movie was very interesting - focusing on this time in Elizabeth's life.

5 out of 5 stars The best depiction of Elizabeth I yet.......2007-06-21

I've seen nearly every movie or mini series about Elizabeth I, including some of the classic oldies with Flora Robson and Betty Davis. This HBO production was outstanding. Helen Mirren and Jeremy Irons are riveting to watch. Much better than the recent PBS/BBC series and light years ahead of the movie with Cate Blanchard. And this production sticks closer to the historic records. Any deviation was actually believable. The fascinating life of this woman needs little embellishment. History has already done that. This production gives more insight into the woman herself as a woman coping in a male dominated world at its highest levels. Bravo. I've already recommended it to many others.

5 out of 5 stars God save the Queen.......2007-05-30

This movie is so well done and probaly one of the most historically acurate that I have seen. I watched this after being captivated by Showtime's The Tudors. It was a great caveat to that show. There is not a lot of mention of Mary , Henry VIII's first child but Elizabeth shines. Helen Miren does an outstanding job as queen. I am not sure how accurate the temper tamptrums but after all she was still a woman, a woman that was queen!

5 out of 5 stars Elizabeth I ........2007-05-29

Although I usually don't care too much for history, I really liked Elizabeth I. This movie brought history to life .
The acting was outstanding ! Hellen Mirren was even better in Elizabeth I than in The Queen .
I highly recommend Elizabeth I.

5 out of 5 stars Helen Mirren Offers a Totally Compelling Portrait of Elizabeth I.......2007-05-22

This film is absolutely superb! Helen Mirren's portrayal of the great Renaissance queen is simply mesmerizing. She shows the multifaceted qualities of this fascinating historical figure. She offers a finely-nuanced performance, providing all the subtleties of characterization that make Elizabeth live and breathe in this film. I have seen all of Mirren's magical character work, but her powers here are simply beyond compare. This performance will go down in history as one of the best (if not, THE BEST) of our time. I recommend this wholeheartedly to everyone the world over. Mirren is surely the 21st century's finest actress.

One simple question, people: Do you know where you're goin' to? And furthermore, Do you like the things that life is showin' you? These questions are posed in the unavoidable theme song (a huge Seventies hit) from Mahogany, a splashy, diva-sized vehicle for Diana Ross. Miss Ross was hot off her unexpected and critically approved starring role in Lady Sings the Blues when she embarked on this musical, a rags-to-riches saga of a Chicago girl who dreams of being a fashion designer but becomes a supermodel instead. Original director Tony Richardson was replaced behind the camera by Motown founder and puppetmaster supreme Berry Gordy, who knew something about turning Ross into an idealized vision of femininity (for more on their relationship, check out the fictionalized version in Dreamgirls).

Ross looks a little overwhelmed by the plot machinations, which take her from the orbit of a regular-guy activist (Billy Dee Williams) into the glam world of European fashion--the latter courtesy of a cranky, unstable photographer played by Anthony Perkins. Perkins is sky-high fun in this thing, as though he suspected the movie was in trouble and decided to let the tics and nerviness fly. These days Mahogany is treasured either as a fond childhood memory or as a ripe camp-fest, and that's probably about where it belongs. Still, it looks positively restrained next to the other big diva musical of the same historical moment, Barbra Streisand's 1976 A Star is Born. --Robert Horton

5 out of 5 stars A classic film by Ms. Ross!!!.......2007-06-13

This film just happens to be one of my favorite films of all time. Diana Ross gives another stellar performance. I would have to say that this film should have done well at the box office. Thankfully, I own it on DVD. Billy Dee Williams is so damn sexy. Add this film to your list of favorites!!!!!!!

3 out of 5 stars Good but not Great.......2007-06-10

I thought that Diana's performance in this movie was good, it wasn't great. I would have love to seen the other characters in the movie reaction to her success. How did Diana's(Tracy's) character discover her love of fashion, why did the film not bring her success to America. None the less, the movie was good not great.

5 out of 5 stars DIANA ROSS RADIATES SUPERSTAR GLAMOUR IN A FUN FILM!!.......2007-06-09

This is a super camp movie because of the incredibly implausible script. However, it is also incredibly entertaining with a wonderful musical score. Diana Ross looks gorgeous in unbelievably glamorous costumes, jewels, make-up and furs. And, in spite of the movie's flaws, Diana's acting is really good while poor Anthony Perkins is atrocious. Beautiful scenes of Rome, Italy! This is a must for any Diana Ross fan! Unfortunately, some of the scenes, notably the "Kabuki Fashion Show" have been cut for the DVD while other unnecessary scenes have been left in. It is a tragedy she didn't make may more movies after this one.Mahogany
