A Few Good Soilders.......2007-06-29

I love this movie. It's World War III. And it's up to a few good men and women to try and stop this thing. You'll be paying attention every moment. Enjoy.

A classic for any collection ............2007-06-13

I saw this quite impressive movie years ago on television and bought it to add to my movie collection mostly for nostalgia's sake. The main reason I enjoyed it years ago and continue to enjoy it is its casting of Powers Boothe as the quintessential military man doing his darnedest to follow orders.

I like Powers Boothe. I like every movie he appears in. Powers Boothe adds *presence* to movies.

That said, for me this story revolves around Mr. Boothe's pilot character and his battle with an obstinate and very un-military-like female co-pilot. He wishes to follow orders and drop his bombs. She wimps out and argues against it. Somehow beyond my comprehension, the wimpy co-pilot convinces the pilot to disregard direct orders and turn around.

Despite this decision falling into line with the theme of the movie overall, I still find myself wishing the man had stuck to his guns against the childish ravings of the woman in the seat beside him. Tsk, tsk, tsk.

(I'm a woman, btw, for those of you reading this review who wish to attempt a grasp of my logic here!)

An excellent drama and one worth seeing ... even to pass on for the edification of younger generations! :-)

Scary wake up call.......2007-04-10

I remember watching this for the first time by accident while I was channel surfing and was drawn into it. It is a very powerful look at what could have happened during the cold war, and could happen today. A lot of people have said if there is another World War it would be caused by accidental circumstances or rouge elements. I really liked this movie, decent actors, good plot. It was a scary look a potential events.

I bought this as a gift. One of my sons says it's his favorite movie, so I'm giving it to him for Christmas this year.(I do my shopping early)

The unthinkable has happened. They look back thru their bomb scope, and the base is gone........2007-02-07

A B-52 bomber crew is scrambled into action. After the plane takes off there is a nuclear strike on their base. The unthinkable has happened. They look back thru their bomb scope, and the base is gone. One of the crewman can't believe it. He thinks the base is still there. His wife and children are - were - down there. He can't believe it and they can't convince him the base is gone. He refuses to take his position on the plane. He's consumed with grief. Inconsolable he ejects himself out the bomber without a parachute.

Meanwhile the presidents helicopter has crashed and he's been injured. It's only been a limited nuclear war so far and he's determined to stop the war from escalating, the only problem is, he's no longer in control of the military.

The bomber continues on it's way to Russia, minus one crewman. The flight is almost exactly like the flight of the bomber in the movie 'Dr Strangelove' - "It's just one bomber Demitri", "I don't know why it's so hard to find it", "They're trained for that Demitri". Except in this flight, the female pilot convinces the crew to turn around and not drop their bombs on Russia. It turns out their inaction keeps the war from escalating and the president is able to gain control of the military once again.

Teen actor, Chris Olivero, and Hollywood legend, Richard Crenna, deliver outstanding and believable performances in this coming of age movie about a bratty, California kid, Mike Lewis (Olivero), who is shipped off to visit his grandfather, Ben Maxwell (Crenna), in Colorado. While there, the argumentative and often smart-aleck Lewis, stirs up enough trouble for the town and his kindhearted grandfather. After several confrontations, the disrespectful grandson decides he wants to return to his spoiled lifestyle in Los Angeles. His grandfather agrees, but decides the two will travel to California by way of horseback. A disgruntled Lewis, tries his hardest to come up with every excuse to avoid the trek to the Pacific coast, but finds himself on the losing end of the battle. Shortly after their journey begins, they meet up with a group of Ben Maxwell's longtime friends, who together, take Maxwell's grandson on the journey of a lifetime by exposing him to down-to-earth western values and hard-working morals. After many trials along the trail, lessons are learned and Lewis and his grandfather discover something about each other they never expected. The film is laced with thought-provoking topics, incredible chemistry, outstanding performances, and certainly the greater values in life that founded our nation. Just short of Oscar caliber for Crenna, this film is highly recommended for all! A great film with good, clean humor, and patriotic family values!
