Amazon.com
The most viscerally frightening and disturbing homicidal maniac picture since The Silence of the Lambs, Seven is based on an idea that's both gruesome and ingenious. A serial killer forces each of his victims to die by acting out one of the seven deadly sins. The murder scene is then artfully arranged into a grotesque tableau, a graphic illustration of each mortal vice. From the jittery opening credits to the horrifying (and seemingly inescapable) concluding twist, director David Fancher immerses us in a murky urban twilight where everything seems to be rotting, rusting, or molding; the air is cold and heavy with dread. Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt are the detectives who skillfully track down the killer--all the while unaware that he has been closing in on them, as well. Gwyneth Paltrow and Kevin Spacey are also featured, but it is director Fancher and the ominous, overwhelmingly oppressive atmosphere of doom that he creates that are the real stars of the film. It's a terrific date movie--for vampires. --Jim Emerson

Get out your hankies for the moving final season of The West Wing. It's not just because it's the last season, and the last time we know we'll hear that thrilling theme music. It's not just because it's the end of the line for the administration of President Josiah "Jed" Bartlet (Martin Sheen), an inspiring, beloved fictional leader of the free world in a time of great cynicism about real-life politicians. It's also because of the sudden, untimely death of costar John Spencer, who played chief of staff Leo McGarry, who, like his character, was a recovering alcoholic and died of a heart attack in December 2005. Spencer's death was worked into the season's story line, and it's both exhilarating to see some of Spencer's finest work in the early episodes here, and heartbreaking to see the impact of his death on the cast. At one point, Martin Sheen delivers a moving on-air tribute: "Johnny, it seems we hardly knew you." Other highlights of the season include the fleshing out of presidential candidates Alan Alda and Jimmy Smits, both respectable, admirable and worthy opponents. And in abundance are the things viewers had come to love about the show: the witty dialogue and spot-on delivery, especially by actors Bradley Whitford, Richard Schiff, and the crack Allison Janney and the long tracking and circular shots of characters in their element (subsequently found on creator Aaron Sorkin's follow-up series, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip). If the story lines aren't as topnotch as some in earlier years, it hardly matters, as this is the season that wraps up the entire story arc. The gimmicks, like the live debate between Smits and Alda's characters, don't hold a candle to the true soul-searching and idealism found in every single episode. The set includes all 22 episodes, a glossy guide to each episode, and "Live from the Director's Chair," a mini-doc about filming the live debate episode. Hail to the chief! --A.T. Hurley
Description
The seventh season of the West Wing chronicles the transition between the administration of President Josiah 'Jed' Bartlet and the race for the new presidency between Congressman Mathew Vincente Santos of Houston, Texas and Senator Arnold Vinick of California. The season includes the live episode of "The Debate" and ends with a new administration in the West Wing.
Customer Reviews:
A fitting finale to a brilliant series!.......2007-07-05
As the title says - this season nicely rounds out such a brilliant series.
With local (Australian) TV treating this series with disdain for many years - production of this series on DVD kept the hardcore fans going.
(A great little doco on the production of the live-to-air debate episode!)
a wounderfull ending to a great series.......2007-07-03
the last season of West Wing (season 7) is a wounderfull journey through the lives of the charictors we have grown to love. the producers knew this season was the end of the show and did a superb job of closing all the story lines. some shows just have a final episode but the writers were able to close all the storys over the last few episodes. this gave me a real feeling for the charictors and wanting them to goto great jobs after 8+ years in the white house. after i saw the 7 season i watched season one and WOW the charictors realy evolved and grew through out the run of the show. one of the things i relised is the charictors realy aged in 7 years it was neat to see the beginning after the end of the show.
thank you for reading this i think you will enjoy season 7 of the West Wing.
Not Since CBS' "Playhouse 90". . . ........2007-06-10
. . . .has there been such excellence in writing, acting and directing. Perhaps the best remembered of the "Playhouse 90" series was "Twelve Angry Men" starring Henry Fonda.
In the case of "The West Wing - The Complete Seventh Season," we are treated to some of the best writing, acting and story lines in the entire series. Don't short change yourself. Buy the "TWW Seventh Season" and recall some of the best episodic writing to ever be seen in this series.
Wonderful Finale, With Even More Challenging Political Scenarios.......2007-05-25
I've gotta say that Season 2 is still my favorite, and O'Donnell is still building up to Sorkin's level and consistency, but Season 7 fits beautifully into the total West Wing set of the best television ever, alongside masterpiece BBC. Production, above par; story lines, more challenging; dialogue, how we all miss Sorkin's wit and style and grace, and the Sam character. Regarding the episode involving the Alda-Smits presidiential debate, O'Donnell's script is outstanding in all respects and simply can't be forgotten.
The Way to End It.......2007-05-14
I have seen many season finales for shows that I loved. Without a doubt the last season of West Wing ranks on the top of that list. The show ends with class and style and leaves you hoping for a spin off from the next term. If you enjoyed the first three seasons of West Wing you will enjoy the last. Of course they still have that one pesky habit of dropping major story lines without addressing them but if you are a fan you are used to this.

By the time Seinfeld reached season 7, it was already firmly established as one of the top shows on TV. But Jerry Seinfeld and series co-creator Larry David still had plenty of stops to pull out to keep the show at the top of its form. This is the season where George--yes, George (Jason Alexander)--gets engaged. Elaine (Julia Louis Dreyfuss) judges her dates to see who is "sponge-worthy." Jerry deals with low-flow showerheads, buys Chinese gum, and tries to date Debra Messing. And Kramer (Michael Richards) solidifies his own essential Kramer-ness by putting a hot tub in his living room, going around town in Joseph's Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, buying jeans so tight he can't take them off, and taking advice on court strategy from his caddy. If there is a unifying theme in this season, it would be growing up (or rather, futile attempts to grow up), as Jerry whines to George right off the bat, "What are we doing? What kinds of lives are these? We're like children, we're not men." As a result, marriage emerges as a theme, and George proposes to Susan (Heidi Swedburg) in episode 1. And because George is, well, George, things inevitably go downhill from there. But it's not all navel-gazing. After all, this is the season that gave us "The Soup Nazi," and years later, "no soup for you" is a still a pop-culture touchstone.
Other classics include "The Calzone" where Jerry points out that Elaine's boyfriend never asked her out; "The Bottle Deposit," featuring Kramer teaming with Jerry's nemesis, Newman (Wayne Knight), to make millions out of a bottle deposit scheme; and "The Cadillac," where Jerry's gift of a Cadillac to his parents inevitably leads to trouble, to name just a few. In due course through the season, all attempts to grow up inevitably, and hilariously, fail. That seems to be the world of Seinfeldian existentialism. Seven seasons in, who wants to see these characters actually change, anyway when it's so much more fun to watch them flail in their own skins? Along with the episodes, commentary, and "Notes about Nothing," as on the other seasons, there's a nice profile of Julia Louis Dreyfuss and her character Elaine, who was so key to the show's success, and "Larry David's Farewell," a special feature reviewing David's contributions to the show. --Daniel Vancini

CLASSIC TELEVISION RIGHT UP THERE WITH THE HONEYMOONERS.......2007-06-04
Some may think this show is better than the Honeymooners, but lets talk about that in 50 years. To be mentioned in the same breath as that show is an extreme compliment! This is another great season and a must have DVD set!
By todays sitcom standards it should get 10 stars.......2007-06-01
It is so much better than anything on tv right now. Since Arrested Development left, there are few sitcoms that are worth watching right now and none of them 1/10th as funny as even the worst Seinfeld episode. I cannot say enough of the absolute brilliance this show conveyed each episode. I got done watching The Gum episode and I never laughed so hard as when Jerry had to wear those THICK eyeglasses and wander around blind, all to fool Lloyd Braun. There are so many classic moments in this season and Im glad I finally bought this set. The extras are incredible, too, from the commentaries to the bloopers and the rest. It is without question the best comedy series ever and a must for anyone who loves to laugh.
No Soup For You!.......2007-05-29
There isn't much to say about this season or this show that hasn't been said already. I like the arc of this season better than season six: the concept of George's engagement hovers omnipresent in the background during the entire season, and I think it works exceptionally well as a comic medium (I am especially enamored with Susan's ultimate departure from the cast.)
Aside from the engagement arc, there are other works of comedy genius here that rival the best of the other seasons. "The Soup Nazi" has to be my personal favorite of the season, but "The Shower Head" provides the cast with wonderful opportunities for physical comedy (albeit through the unlikely medium of their hair), while "The Rye" and "The Cadillac" worked sublimely in combination. I found Michael Richard's character (and the Kramer-driven plotpoints) to become a bit more monotonous this season, but that may be due to the contrast with the exceptional characterizations from the other three principals.
Of course there are plenty of extras (I especially like the "Notes About Nothing" feature) all of which are worth watching. As always, this is a fabulous show, and should be in the library of any comedy lover.
Buy it for the same reason you bought the other 6 seasons.......2007-05-19
Everything that made you want the first 6 seasons on DVD is found on this volume, and it does not dissappoint. Every season has is classic episodes and seven is no exception.
Seinfeld-Season 7.......2007-05-07
My son is collecting Seinfeld and asks for these on his birthdays and
Christmas holidays so I give them to him. He is a young adult. I too
find the program funny and enjoy the extra features on the DVD.

Customer Reviews:
The Greatest Show Never Given a Chance Comes to DVD!.......2007-07-04
After literally wearing out 3 sets of VHS tapes I was able to get a set off Showtime Extreme (along with tags for other shows, etc.) which was an acceptable way to watch "the boys". However, I am SO EXCITED to have a "forever" copy (at least until I test the theory that you can't wear out a DVD) of Magnificent Seven! I rated it a 4 only because I'd have loved to have some of the "extra features" that many sets have. Otherwise, it's perfect! If given a chance by the network, this series could have done for Weaterns what CSI seems to have done for police shows. The cast is the perfect blend of characters and play off one another wonderfully. I had never thought of Michael Biehn (the reason I first tuned in) as any of his other characters, but since this series, he'll forever be Chris Larabee to me! And, other than Vincent of Beauty and the Beast, I've never enjoyed watching Ron Perlman this much. It was the first time I'd seen the others but I quickly became fans, and watch Without a Trace simply because Eric Close is in it! Bottom line, if you like westerns, you'll love this series!
Magnificent 7 - TV series, season 2.......2007-06-27
While the lack of any extras is lamentable, it's unsurprising for the DVD's of such a short-lived series. That said, this will certainly satisfy anyone who enjoyed watching the series on TV and wishes to view it again. The packaging is pleasant to look at and each case has brief summaries of the episodes and the original air date. The picture and sound quality of the recordings is excellent.
As for the series itself, The Magnificent Seven is just good plain fun, with a cast of experienced actors who play well together and scripts that sparkle with excitement, drama, and humor.
Magnificent Cowboys.......2007-06-22
I received the second series last week and watched the episodes one after another. Although it had been a few years since I had seen the show aired on tv it still is a great show and I enjoyed watching this again.
The actors are great especially my favorite Micheal Biehn I just love him he is soooooo sexy and only gets better with age. The actor who played Ezra is good too I havent seen him in anything else though.
I hope that they have another series up their sleeve for this show as it would be nice to see some new episodes released but I am not sure there are any.
I would recommend this to anyone who likes Micheal Biehn and anything to do with cowboy shows.
FINALLY!.......2007-06-14
Entertaining for all western fans, eagerly awaited by all fans of the TV series. Still miss the show.
The Magnificent Seven - The Complete Second Season.......2007-06-13
Season two of this series is a good as season one but has the advantage that it takes links from season one and follows them through so we have Chris finally finding out who killed his family and Vin [...] the trail of the man who framed him for murder. Along with this we still get the interaction of the seven very different personalities and the situations they get into protecting the town.
A very entertaining series.

Spanish Subtitles.......2007-07-03
Does any body know why they didn't include spanish subtitles?? Where can I get the Complete Seventh Season with spanish subtitles???
Complete the Rest.......2007-06-25
The tapes were superb. Now, WHEN will we be offered Seasons 8 thur spring of 2007?? I am waiting for the "passing" of Mark Green. The sensitivity, truth, and carefulness with which so many issues were addressed needs to be available for people who may be at that time of their lives. And it is certainly not readily available from educational resources. And I missed the wedding of Abby and Luca. Commericals you know.
So please hurry and get the remainder of the years ready for sale. Not having to suffer the mindlessness of commericals and timing your time out of the room is very tricky. One can easily miss the best part as I think networks try to trick you to watch commericals.
Just the right amount of drama for your money!.......2007-06-17
This show just keeps getting better and better as the seasons are released. It starts getting into more detail about the personal lives of the doctors and nurses. This season is the season that starts the development of Dr. Greene's brain tumor. I can't wait until season 8 is released. This is real drama!
Good season.......2007-05-26
There is no doubt why ER has been on so long. Not my favorite season on dvd but good nonetheless.
GREAT!.......2007-05-19
This was a great season I can't wait for season 8. I already watched this whole season since it came out. wow it was good...

Amazon.com essential video
One of the brightest nuggets from Disney's golden age, this 1937 film is almost dizzying in its meticulous construction of an enchanted world, with scores of major and minor characters (including fauna and fowl), each with a distinct identity. When you watch Snow White's intricate, graceful movements of fingers, arms, and head all in one shot, it is not the technical brilliance of Disney's artists that leaps out at you, but the very spirit of her engaging, girl-woman character. When the wicked queen's poisoned apple turns from killer green to rose red, the effect of knowing something so beautiful can be so terrible is absolutely elemental, so pure it forces one to surrender to the horror of it. Based on the Grimm fairy tale, Snow White is probably the best family film ever to deal, in mythic terms, with the psychological foundation for growing up. It's a crowning achievement and should not be missed. --Tom Keogh

One star is actually very generous! I waited over 3 weeks after placing my order to contact the seller. His response to my inquiry of the shipping information was "Please allow 2 weeks for delivery". He didn't even take notice of the attachment containing the original invoice that showed we were already past that delivery date. I sent another email pointing this out, and again, I asked for the information of when and how the item was shipped. We are 9 days past that email, and I haven't heard a word. BUYERS BEWARE
Also, this was supposed to be a birthday gift for my 4 year old...maybe it will make it by Christmas!!!!
"With A Smile And A Song" ~ The Birth Of An American Dynasty .......2007-04-07
To truly appreciate this film one should remember that `Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' was released in '37 making it's production an incredible achievement in animation considering the overall state of the art at the time. This film was the spring board for the many Disney classics to follow in the years ahead making it a classic by that standard alone.
However having that said, after all these years the film can still stand on its own merits. The animation is enjoyable, the soundtrack is enchanting, at times haunting and the seven dwarfs are beloved by millions around the world. It may not be technically the best of Disney's animated films but it was the benchmark of all that was to follow and still has a loyal fan base after all these years. A true classic.
THIS IS HOW ALL THE PLATINUM EDITIONS SHOULD BE DONE!.......2007-03-07
I was amazed how fantasic this film looked in the 2 disc Platinum Edition DVD! It is hard to believe this gem is 70 years old! The restoration is nothing short of incredible and there are tons of worthwhile extras too! I'm glad to see nothing was censored in this film! This is the way to treat all the Disney animated classics, completely restored and unedited with lots of extras. Come on Disney! Haven't we given you enough of our money!? Please stop editing these historical pieces and give them the treatment they deserve. If you must edit them, then release them both ways. One for the poor kiddie's parents who can't deal with some "PC" stereotypes and one for the purist who want to keep things they way they were meant to be seen!
snow white the movie that started it all!.......2007-02-09
I just recieved my copy of this dvd set and it was worth every penny and arrived quickly. It was beautifully remastered. It looks and sounds much better than my vhs copy. I now have a complete collection of the disney princess collection on dvd and I'm soooo happy about it! Thanks amazon for having available all these out of print titles. I loooooove this website!
Wonderful.......2007-01-19
This is an absolute wonderful classic. Our daughter watched this 3 times the first night we got this. I had not seen this since I was a young kid...what wonderful memories.
This is a must have!!!

PILOT: Seven men unite to save a Seminole Indian village from The Ghosts of the Confederacy, a group of renegade soldiers threatening complete annihilation. The Seven courageously defend the village from the pillaging soldiers in this electrifying series premiere. ONE DAY OUT WEST: J.D. (Andrew Kavovit) volunteers to serve as a sheriff when a Federal Judge comes to clean up the town, and Judge Travis enlists the Seven to protect it. WORKING GIRLS: The town takes in a group of 'working girls' escaping from their vengeful master. SAFECRACKER: An ex-safecracker traveling through town is forced to return to her nefarious ways by an adamant ex-partner. WITNESS: Mary's (Laurie Holden) young son visits, only to be haunted by his memories of a rogue townsperson. Erza's (Anthony Starke) con-artist mother comes into town. NEMESIS: Chris pursues the man he believes is responsible for the murder of his wife and sons. The rest of the seven try their best to keep Chris from doing something he might regret. A reporter follows the men around to get a story. THE COLLECTOR: The Seven get involved when a "collector," Guy Royal, attempts to buy a string of homes: the future home of the railroad. Royal's hired gun has a bone to pick with Chris over an incident many years back. Josiah (Ron Perlman) is excited with his former love, saloon singer Emma comes to town. MANHUNT: Vin takes the lead in a manhunt to catch an escaped prisoner who took a local woman hostage. The girl's father, the local preacher, seeks vengeance. INMATE 78: Chris is arrested and thrown into a gulag-type prison camp while intervening in the arrest of an innocent man. He's subsequently informed that the sheriff identifies drifters who look like they have money, and arrests them on trumped-up charges until their families pay the bail. Vin, Ezra and the boys search for Chris when he doesn't return.

Magnificent 2nd time around.......2007-03-15
The dvd was just as good as I remembered the tv show to be. The show is both funny and serious with some of the best characters in it played by highly underrated actors. Even if you don't like 'westerns' have no fear this is not a western. It is a fun show for all ages.
The Magnificent Seven.......2007-03-15
This was one of the greatest show on tv. It's a shame it didn't have a longer running time. I was so glad to see that Amazon carried it! It had such great talented actors.

This was one of the best shows on television, if you like westerns. Great cast, good stories; the total package. Probably one of the best shows CBS ever cancelled. The highest possible recommendation--enjoyed it very much and already ordered Season #2.

One of the hallmark seasons of The Simpsons, season 7 features some of the strongest episodes produced during the show's run. Considering that this is The Simpsons we're talking about here, that's saying a lot, but this collection deserves the accolades.
Broadcast in 1995, season seven features several signature episodes, including Part II of "Who Shot Mr. Burns," "Bart Sells His Soul," and "Two Bad Neighbors" where former President George Herbert Walker Bush moves into the neighborhood (an episode gamely playing on the former President's open dislike for the show). One of The Simpsons's most definitive episodes, "Treehouse of Horror VI" famously broke the third wall by using the then-groundbreaking CGI technology to render Homer first in a 3-D world, then in real life, (despite the evolution in his form, he naturally ends up in an erotic cake shop). As the producers openly note on the commentary, it was a big deal at the time, and super expensive, which is why they could only do a few minutes of footage in CGI (some fans will particularly enjoy the revealing commentary on this one, as the producers explain the many visual puns and math jokes appearing in the background of the 3-D world). It's a great example of how The Simpsons continued to play with its visual style and take creative risks years into its run. In fact, one of the best episodes on this collection, "The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular" proves just how far the look and style of the show really came during that time. Hosted by actor Troy McClure (voiced by the late comic great Phil Hartman), it presents never-before-seen outtakes and original footage from the show's debut days on The Tracey Ullman Show, while taking a few self-referential digs at show creators Matt Groening, James Brooks, and Sam Simon. Other gems include "Homerpalooza" where Homer thanks guests The Smashing Pumpkins for their gloomy music because it has made his kids "stop wishing for a future I can't possibly provide," and "Bart the Fink" where Bart inadvertently gets Krusty the Klown busted for tax "avoision."
Along with the 25 episodes there are extensive commentaries, featurettes, and deleted scenes all of which add immense value to the set and will give die-hard fans another excuse to spend more hours in front of the TV. It's another benchmark collection from a show that, up to this point, doesn't seem to know its own limits. --Dan Vancini

Customer Reviews:
One of the greatest seasons of Simpsons.......2007-05-26
Hilarious, and absolutely entertaining. This season of Simpsons is great, but there's only one disappointment. After the first disc, only a few of the episodes are that funny. They're still good, but after I saw just the first disc, I was a little disappointed that none of the rest were quite as good.
Seventh season of spectacular silliness from the Simpsons of Springfield!.......2007-05-24
My collection of Simpsons DVD's is complete...that is until this August of 2007 and also later this year when seasons 10 and 11 are heading our way! Anyway the seventh season had some fun moments including Bart Sells His Soul,Homerpalooza and the ever popular Treehouse of Horror with Homer in 3D animation. These were my top three from the season. Now I am waiting for the rest of the Simpson seasons to add to my collection which will continue to grow for the next few years! Enjoy!
Good.......2007-05-07
This season has some terrific episodes, along with a few disappointments. The previous season is definitely more consistent. A couple of highlights include Radioactive Man and Much Apu About Nothing. A fun season, though not the best one.
perhaps the best season ever!.......2007-03-26
The Oakley/Weinstein years were the silver age of the simpsons, and when it best hit its comedic stride. four of my top 20 episodes are here!
Dedicated To: Lester & Eliza, For Making All This Possible........2007-01-19
By far this is the best season of "The Simpsons" on DVD. This season is full of some of the most funny and fast paced episodes yet. There are alot of things in this season that make it one of the best, like the answer to who shot Mr. Burns, Bart trys out for Fallout boy, but Milhouse gets the part instead. The kids get taken away from Homer & Marge, after they take a break from being parents. Bart sells his soul to Milhouse, only to want it back after not laughing at funny things anymore. Lisa becomes a Vegetarian after she visits a baby Lamb at the local Zoo. Homer & Bart become 3-D cartoons in "Treehouse Of Horror VI (6)". Homer gets fat so he can get disability, he also meets his mother after 27 years after leaving him and her husband Grandpa Simpson, for reasons that involve Mr. Burns. Sideshow Bob threatens Springfield with a nuclear bomb after escaping from the police on a Army base. Bart steals a video game called "Blood Storm", Krusty get indicted and then fakes his death to get out of it. Homer becomes Mr. Burns assistant for a while, until Mr. Smithers comes back from his vacation. Lester and Eliza are introduced by saving the cartoon "Itchy & Scratchy". Selma gets married again, but this time not to Sideshow Bob, but to actor Troy McClure. Bart, Milhouse, Martin & Nelson go on a trip without their parents knowing. Apu becomes a American citizen legally and Lisa makes friends at the beach while on a summer vacation.

The seventh season of Everybody Loves Raymond serves up a delightful mix of comedy and pathos as the Barones deal with cults, theft, marriage, and death. The season opener (which aired on CBS in 2002) starts where season 6 ended: with Debra (Patricia Heaton) and Marie (Doris Roberts) feuding, and Ray (Ray Romano) and Robert (Brad Garrett) conjuring up a plan to get them to make up. This 5-disc set includes all 25 episodes, including the two-part wedding finale between Robert and Amy (Monica Horan). In typical Marie fashion, she has a shocking and inappropriate comment to make when the priest makes the rhetorical statement, "If anyone can think of any reason why these two should not be joined, speak now or forever hold your peace." There is very little peace when Marie is around. A fantastic cook and a loving mother, Marie is the reason why women worldwide dislike mama's boys. When things go wrong on the home front, Ray isn't above comparing Debra to his mother. Sometimes it's unintentional. But at other times, it's calculated as a means of getting his way. The show's saving grace is the likeability of the characters and the strong writing, which makes up in humor what it lacks in subtlety.
The relationship between woebegone Robert and Amy is a delight, especially because viewers get to meet her parents this season. Fred Willard (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy) and Georgia Engel (The Mary Tyler Moore Show) play Amy's conservative parents who'd rather see their daughter remain single than marry into the Barone family. Chris Elliott also guest stars as Amy's spoiled, unemployed brother who likes to stir things up between the two clans. The show's success always has been less about completely out-there premises than taking a slice of everyday life--helping the kids with their homework, sharing chores, dealing with in laws--and presenting them in a comical manner. In the real world, a lazy husband like Ray wouldn't be nearly as cuddly. And an interfering mother-in-law like Marie would not be tolerated by most wives. But on Everybody Loves Raymond, they're two of the main reasons why viewers consistently tuned in to this hit sitcom. --Jae-Ha Kim

must be seen!.......2007-06-11
The seventh season of "everybody loves Raymond" is really hilarious. I absolutely recommend it for the fans of "everybody loves Raymond". Almost every episode of this season is "super funny"!
Seventh heaven for RAYMOND fans.............2007-06-02
The seventh season was a time of transition for the Barones (Ray Romano, Patricia Heaton, Brad Garrett, Doris Roberts, Peter Boyle, and Sweetin children). Some ups and some downs. Yet, they made it all look easy and very amusing. I don't want to ruin the plots or episodes for you. I will say this, Robert (Brad Garrett) is not destined to be all by his lonesome self for eternity (though, there were times you had to wonder!). This seventh series of episodes was actually, for me, some of the most intelligent comedy of the series I had seen. It took a really honest look at the dark realities of life and the crossroads that we find ourselves in that can ultimately change our destinies. Yes, I am waxing philosophical about RAYMOND, and for good reason. Check it out for yourselves and find out why......
"Oh my God, she finally killed mom"---Robert.......2007-06-02
I enjoy watching all the seasons of Raymond. In Season 7, some of the episodes became a little more serious and the fighting a little more heavy ("Pet the Bunny," "Robert Needs Money," "Marie's Vision"), which is why I'm giving it 4 instead of the usual 5 stars I give for this excellent series. The first episode concludes the storyline began in Season 6 where Debra and Marie stop talking that I think was a little overly petty and silly even for them! There are still, as always, excellent episodes here; my favorites being the ones with Amy's parents. Also Robert and Amy finally get hitched, so it is an important season. What was up with the theme song and segment? Yuck! Too much repetition and stupid scenes! Fortunately, it's not shown on every episode.
Disc 1
"The Cult": This episode concludes the "Mother's Day"/"The Bigger Person"/ "The First Time" issue from Season 6 where Debra and Marie stop talking to each other because Marie got bent out of shape when Debra wouldn't drop everything to let her kids tell knock-knock jokes in front of her friends. Robert can't handle the tension between his mom and sister-in-law, so he joins a group called "The Inner Path." This phase doesn't last long, so they use it to bring together the bickering broads. The whole 4-episode-long storyline was really reaching and the ending lame.
"Counseling": Raymond and Debra have an even more heated argument than usual over cleaning the house and then they find out their friends are seeing a therapist. When they make an appointment, Raymond knows all the right things to say which exasperates Debra. Then Raymond makes a shocking confession.
"Homework": Raymond goes on a crusade against the mountains of homework Ally's getting since Debra is making him help her.
"Pet the Bunny": Another emotionally charged episode. Raymond gets a head start on his father's eulogy and Frank goes mental over a story about him petting a bunny.
"Who Am I?": Raymond isn't having fun hanging around the guys anymore and Debra is hopeful he's finally growing up. Then she thinks he may have grown up too much when he starts going to his father's lodge.
Disc 2
"Robert Needs Money": Robert is down on his luck so Raymond and Debra give him $1,000 and then regret it when he decides to use the money to go to Vegas. Boy do Ray and Deb get mad at him!
"The Sigh": Debra guilt trips Raymond into giving her their bathroom and Ray begins to think he has no place of his own.
"Annoying Kid": A couple Raymond and Debra are friends with have a son who drives Ray crazy with his robot games. The guy who plays Neil the father (Craig Anton) is really hot!
"She's the One": Robert thinks he has found the perfect woman until Raymond finds out something very peculiar about her. This one was weird!
"Marie's Vision": Marie gets glasses and notices flaws in everybody. Then she gets in a fight with Frank and calls what they have a "loveless marriage" which really sets Frank off. I'm not sure what triggered Marie into saying something that would ignite such an emotional outburst, but the story gets very serious very fast.
Disc 3
"The Thought That Counts": Robert gives Raymond the perfect idea for a birthday present for Debra and takes all the credit in typical Raymond fashion. Very strange how well Robert knows Debra yet gives his girlfriend stupid ice show tickets. Hmmmmm.
"Grandpa Steals": Ally sees Frank making a scene in the grocery store after he was caught eating bulk trail mix and is uncomfortable around him.
"Somebody Hates Raymond": Raymond finds out a famous radio personality hates him and it's eating him up as to why. Robert gloats over it until he meets the jerk. I like how Robert sticks up for his brother in this one.
"Just a Formality": Robert wants to marry Amy but the task of asking her father for permission proves more than a formality.
"The Disciplinarian": Debra is angry at Raymond because he always makes her be the bad guy when it comes to setting boundaries for the kids. Raymond is afraid that, no matter what they do, their kids are going to do crazy things like they did. I like the Jethro Tull concert mention (I love that band!). When the family gathers to discuss important issues (i.e. "Talk to Your Daughter" from season 6) is usually when the episode fizzles for me as their conversations are often so silly.
Disc 4
"Meeting the Parents": Amy and Robert are having brunch for Frank and Marie. Surprise! Amy's parents show up. Good one!
"Sweet Charity": Debra gets Raymond to volunteer at the hospital and Ray is angry when Robert takes Traffic Cop Timmy and makes fun of him.
"The Plan": Ray convinces Robert to screw up his wedding invitations so Amy won't ask him to do anymore work. Unfortunately, they get mailed. Another good one!
"Sleepover at Peggy's": Ally is spending the night at Peggy's-the Girl Scout Nazi--and a fanny-touching incident makes him think she has the hots for him.
"Who's Next?": Ray and Deb have a discussion as to who they'd pick for each other if they died. The infamous Harriet Lichmann makes an appearance. It ends up being an argument at the funeral.
Disc 5
"The Shower": Debra drinks too much at Amy's bridal shower and is picked up for DUI when she's found napping in her car. I didn't know you could be arrested if your keys are in the ignition and you're not driving.
"The Baggage": Deb and Ray have an argument over who should unpack a suitcase that's been sitting on the staircase for three weeks.
"The Bachelor Party": Ray throws a bachelor party for Robert that is lame so his family makes him organize a second party that may prove disastrous thanks to Amy's brother.
"Robert's Wedding Parts I & II": Robert's wedding is almost ruined by a little speech courtesy of mother dearest (what a surprise).
Absolutely the best comedy around.......2007-05-26
Season 7 is as great a set of episodes you'll ever get in comedy series. Baggage alone is worth the price of admission.
Fantastic!.......2007-05-12
This show is totally entertaining!! What more can one say?? It's funny! Amazon tends to have the best prices on these DVDs. They are even better if you wait a few months AFTER they've been out for a while.

Amazon.com essential video
Hailed as the greatest film in the history of Japanese cinema, Seven Samurai is director Akira Kurosawa's undisputed masterpiece. Arguably the greatest of all jidai-gecki (or historical swordplay films), Kurosawa's classic 1954 action drama has never been surpassed in terms of sheer power of emotion, kinetic energy, and dynamic character development. The story is set during the civil unrest of 16th-century Japan, as the cowering residents of a small farming village are seeking protection against seasonal attacks by a band of marauding bandits. Offering mere handfuls of rice as payment, they hire seven unemployed "ronin" (masterless samurai), including a boastful swordsman (Toshiro Mifune) who is actually a peasant farmer's son, desperately seeking glory, acceptance, and revenge against those who destroyed his family. Led by the calmly strategic Kambei (Takashi Shimura, star of Kurosawa's previous classic, Ikiru), the samurai form mutual bonds of honor and respect, but remain distant from the villagers, knowing that their assignment may prove to be fatal.
Kurosawa masterfully composed his shots to emphasize these group dynamics, and Seven Samurai is a textbook study of the director's signature techniques, including extensive use of telephoto lenses to compress action, delineate character relationships, and intensify motion. While the climactic battle against raiding thieves remains one of the most breathtaking sequences ever filmed, Seven Samurai is most triumphant as a peerless example of character development, requiring all of its 2-hour, 37-minute running time to illuminate every essential detail of villagers and samurai alike, including an abundance of humor as Kambei's defense plan unfolds. In terms of its overall impact, Seven Samurai spawned dozens of copycat films (notably the American Western remake The Magnificent Seven) and cannot be adequately summarized by even the most comprehensive synopsis; it must be seen to be fully appreciated, and the Criterion Collection's 2006 DVD reissue is an essential addition to any definitive home-video library. --Jeff Shannon
On the DVDs
According to the accompanying booklet, "the picture has been slightly window-boxed (in correct original 1.33:1 aspect ratio) to ensure that the maximum image is visible on all monitors." The two-disc format was necessary "to maintain optimal image quality throughout the compression process," with dual-layered DVD-9's encoded "at the highest possible bit rate for the quantity of material included." The picture and sound quality are simply amazing compared to Criterion's one-disc release from 1998. The all-new, fully restored high-definition digital transfer takes full advantage of HD's clarity and crispness, resulting in picture detail far surpassing the previous DVD. This also applies to the soundtrack, presented in optional Dolby surround in addition to the remastered original mono track. The new transfer "was mastered in 2k resolution from a duplicate negative created with wetgate processing from the original fine-grain master positive" (the film's original negative is no longer available), and "several different digital hardware and software solutions were utilized for flicker, instability, dirt, scratch, and grain management."
The complete 207-minute film is accompanied by two full-length commentary tracks, including a new track combining the critical insights of film scholars David Desser, Joan Mellen, Stephen Price (author of The Warrior's Camera: The Cinema of Akira Kurosawa), Tony Rayns, and the dean of Japanese film experts, Donald Richie (author of The Films of Akira Kurosawa). Each scholar is given approximately 40 minutes of film-time, and their commentaries represent a unique opportunity to appreciate Seven Samurai from distinct yet complementary critical perspectives. The commentary by Japanese film expert Michael Jeck (from Criterion's original 1988 laserdisc release) remains useful as a thorough analysis of Seven Samurai, primarily in terms of visual composition.
The 50-minute "making of" documentary, from Japan's 2002 Toho Masterworks TV series Akira Kurosawa: It Is Wonderful to Create emphasizes Kurosawa's collaboration with co-screenwriters Shinobu Hashimoto and Hideo Oguni, including production footage, crewmember interviews, and a reverent visit to the rural inn where Seven Samurai was written over a six-week period of intense seclusion. The two-hour "My Life in Cinema" interview with Kurosawa was recorded in 1993, with fellow filmmaker Nagisa Oshima serving as a gentle admirer, colleague, and well-informed historian of Kurosawa's career. "Seven Samurai: Origins and Influences" is a richly informative documentary that places Kurosawa's classic in both historical and cinematic context, examining its place in the jidai-gecki (swordplay) genre, its accurate depiction of samurai codes and traditions, and its stature as the prototype for many films that followed. The lavishly illustrated 58-page booklet includes eight brief essays on various aspects of Seven Samurai, each written by noted film scholars or film directors (including Arthur Penn and Sidney Lumet). Also included is a reminiscence by the great actor Toshiro Mifune, excerpted from a conversation recorded in 1993. Taken as a whole, the remastered three-disc Seven Samurai ranks as one of the finest DVD sets ever released. --Jeff Shannon

A Classic Movie.......2007-07-05
This is a good classic movie. The battle action scene was all right. I expected more action but was satisfied by few scenes. I wish the movie could be all put on one disk so that I don't have to reload the second half. This is good for my classic library collection.
spectacular and incomparable............2007-06-30
I finally did it. I watched SEVEN SAMURAI, directed by Akira Kurosawa. The first thing that came to my mind after viewing the film was, "Why did I wait so long?" For me, I have no argument with any of the past critics (Pauline Kael, Siskel & Ebert, or the slew of consumers on Amazon). There is a reason that this magnificent film, by Kurosawa, has been given such high praise, dating all the way back to its release in 1954, when it rightfully received the Venice Film Festival Silver Lion, and was later voted One of the Top Ten Best Films of All Time in the 1992 Sight and Sound International Film Directors' Poll. Gene Siskel calls it "One of the greatest films ever made. The film that was transformed into the popular western The Magnificent Seven." [That's another film I have waited far too long to watch!]
SEVEN SAMURAI truly has something for everyone, and in its full 208 minutes of glory, the scenes fly by way too quickly. This remarkable story, based on Japanese history, depicts 16th century Japan, in the wake of a very turbulent chapter in the nation's past. Peasants and farmers are starving at the hand of ruthless bandits, who are raping and pillaging their rice fields (as well as their people). Who can save them, but a group of seven bold men [the title's samurai] leading a group of locals into battle, to take on these evil men. There are moments that are laugh out loud hilarious, followed by great dramatic and action-packed scenes (yes, this is a violent film--but, I am sure, judging from the title, that doesn't surprise you), and even some romance. The dazzling cast includes Kurosawa regular Toshiro Mifune (YOJIMBO), as well as Takashi Shimura (IKIRU).
What makes this film stand out so much (aside from the wonderful acting and engaging story) is the innovation in cinematography that was incredibly progressive for the time that it was made (the 1950s). This includes bold use of slow motion, a rapid moving camera and long-lens photography. When my mom was looking over my shoulder, ever so often, she remarked that she could have sworn that this film was shot in color. I can see why she thought that. The beautiful attention to light and shadow make you feel the color that the actors and crew must have seen, when they made this. I saw shades of gold, blue, and red (what with all the bloodshed) as I was watching this. You just have to watch the film to understand what I'm talking about. I really don't want to ruin the experience for you. I hope to see the DVD transfer of this, because I have heard it is far superior to the VHS version. That's hard to even imagine, for me, because this film sparkles on videotape! Please watch this and don't wait as long as I did to enjoy SEVEN SAMURAI for the exceptional film that it is. [As a note to all people weary of subtitles: You won't even notice them! This film will make you feel like you understand Japanese, almost. Visually, this is a film that has the power to transcend all cultural and language boundaries.]
A must see.......2007-06-27
Personally, I'm not a fan of b&w films, but this one is by far one of my favorites. Though it is long, it's well worth the time spent watching it, in my humble opinion.
The Seven Samurai.......2007-06-26
Widely regarded as one of the greatest films ever made, Kurosawa's brutal, invigorating martial classic concerns the all-important code of honor among feudal Japan's warrior caste. Both Shimura and Kurosawa regular Mifune, playing a loudmouth rube posing as a member of the elite military class, give towering performances among a robust cast. As in John Ford's Westerns, Kurosawa carefully delineates each of his characters before unleashing the lurid battle sequences, the likes of which have yet to be equaled on-screen: the town raid, ferocious clashes on horseback, and barbaric hand-to-hand melees. Few films have even a fraction of the fluid visual power and visceral intensity of "Samurai," truly an essential work of cinema history.
Fantastic..........2007-05-29
I'm hooked on this director right now. I watched The Hidden Fortress first and decided to buy Seven Samurai after being blown away by the directing of the movie.
Seven Samurai is all it is blown up to be. The detail of character development was right on. The story was simple and yet it kept you interested and excited for the full 3+hours that it lasted. The fight scenes weren't as violent as i expected it to be, but the skills were all there. fantastic cast. I'm going to get more of this directors movies now. Red Beard has caught my eye...

Akira Kurosawa's rousing Seven Samurai was a natural for an American remake--after all, the codes and conventions of ancient Japan and the Wild West (at least the mythical movie West) are not so very far apart. Thus The Magnificent Seven effortlessly turns samurai into cowboys (the same trick worked more than once: Kurosawa's Yojimbo became Sergio Leone's A Fistful of Dollars). The beleaguered denizens of a Mexican village, weary of attacks by banditos, hire seven gunslingers to repel the invaders once and for all. The gunmen are cool and capable, with most of the actors playing them just on the cusp of '60s stardom: Steve McQueen, James Coburn, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn. The man who brings these warriors together is Yul Brynner, the baddest bald man in the West. There's nothing especially stylish about the approach of veteran director John Sturges (The Great Escape), but the storytelling is clear and strong, and the charisma of the young guns fairly flies off the screen. If that isn't enough to awaken the 12-year-old kid inside anyone, the unforgettable Elmer Bernstein music will do it: bum-bum-ba-bum, bum-ba-bum-ba-bum.... Followed by three inferior sequels, Return of the Seven, Guns of the Magnificent Seven, and The Magnificent Seven Ride! --Robert Horton
Description
Spectacular gun battles, epic-sized heroes and an all-star cast that includes Academy AwardÂ(r) winners Yul Brynner* and James Coburn**, together with Steve McQueen, Eli Wallach and Charles Bronson, make The Magnificent Seven a legend among westerns. Spawning three sequels and a successful television series, and featuring Elmer Bernstein's OscarÂ(r)-nominated*** score, thisstunning remake of The Seven Samurai is "a hard-pounding adventure" (Newsweek) and "an enduringly popular" (Leonard Maltin) cinematic classic. Merciless Calvera (Wallach) and his band of ruthless outlaws are terrorizing a poor Mexican village, and even the bravest lawmen can't stop them. Desperate, the locals hire Chris Adams (Brynner) and six other gunfighters to defend them. With time running out before Calvera's next raid, the heroic seven must prepare the villagers for battle and help them find the courage to take back their town or die trying!

Points To Ponder.......2007-04-24
First-rate film, it easily makes my list of the Top 10 westerns. Here are a few points to ponder:
"The Magnificent Seven's" score by Elmer Bernstein received a 1960 Oscar nomination but the award that year went to "Exodus"; which "featured" something called "The Exodus Song" (with lyrics by Pat Boone!!). 45+ years later there is not even a CD release of "Exodus" while the score from "The Magnificent Seven" is one of the most recognized pieces of music ever written. If anyone needs proof of the staggering lameness of academy voting this is the most obvious of countless examples.
The score was further popularized in the late 1960's as the theme for Marlboro cigarettes. An odd bit of irony given that Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, and Jorge Martinez de Hoyos all died of lung cancer; Horst Buchholz and Charles Bronson of pneumonia, and Brad Dexter of emphysema.
In the film, only two (Brynner and McQueen) of the seven leave the village alive (Buchholz survives but stays behind). In real life these two actors were the first to die, preceding the others by about 20 years.
The other four deaths (only Robert Vaughn is still alive) occurred over just a nine-month period (James Coburn in Nov 02, Brad Dexter in Dec 02, Horst Buchholz in March 03, and Charles Bronson in Aug 03).
Then again, what do I know? I'm only a child.
When westerns were westerns.......2007-03-30
It is nice to see the good guys come together to help the ones who need it with being paid for it. No dirty language, sex or any of the really violent themes. Just the good guys doing their job and winning.
No enemies ... alive........2007-03-12
The Special Edition in widescreen Panavision with color by De Luxe is gorgeous from landscapes to big action scenes. The camerawork, whether a tracking shot of the galloping Forty Thieves, or just a set piece looking up the long bordertown street to Boot Hill, is inspired. The score by Elmer Bernstein in Dolby is well, magnificent!
The individual vignettes with Wallach, McQueen, Coburn, and Bronson are little classics. And yet, and yet ...
I first saw TM7 in a theater when it was first released and grew up watching the Marlboro Man on TV so I was looking forward to seeing TM7 again in its orginal glory. But as I watched, I found myself thinking: Had Horst Buchholz really been this annoying? Were the villagers always such wooden actors? Wasn't there more interaction among the Seven? Weren't there more gunfights in the original? In short, it is a very good movie, but it isn't THE Magnificent Seven - the one in my memory for 46 years.
But I'm rating it for what it is, not for how I remembered it, and not because it isn't in Japanese, and it still comes up 4 stars ... plus one more star for the interviews and commentary features on the Spec Ed.
If you wonder why a Russian and a German were cast as leads in an American Western, watch the documentary feature, "Guns For Hire." Or, if you wonder why the Mexican farmers speak perfect English (better than Brynner or Buchholz) and always wear sparkling clean white clothing (while the Americans are always sweaty and dirty), watch the feature. Which one of the Seven actually got married on the set during the village fiesta? Yep, it's in the feature.
Magnificent!!!.......2007-01-30
I haven't seen the original "Seven Samuri", so this is has no conparisons. As a western, this might be one of the best I've seen. Yul Brynner's presence on screen is commanding. I can see why he was later chosen for the sci-fi film, "Westworld". His supporting cast is just as outstanding. It reads like a who's who list (McQueen, Colburn, Bronson) of action films. With a powerful cast, a entertaining villan (Eli Wallach), an intriguing storyline and a beautiful Elmer Bernstein soundtrack (It makes me want to have a Marlboro cigarette, afterwards.), everything comes together. It's an unforgetable western that continues to live its reputation as one of Hollywood's finest films.
Fantastic Entertaining Western! One of the Best ever made!.......2007-01-10
A true Classic! Excellent story, fast paced yet, slow enough for the viewer to learn character development. In my opinion, it has one of the best director's of westerns, John Sturges, with a musical score composed and directed by the best man ever to develop a musical score for a western, Elmer Bernstein. His music lends to the story and captures human emotion in every secene. The acting is superb by a veteran cast of the best actors to be assembled for a film, Yul Bryner, Steve McQueen, James Coburn, Charles Bronson, to name a few.
The interviews are interesting and captivating on the second disk, and give you a good a idea of what it was like to work on this film.
Believe me, you won't regret buying this two disk version. An excellent edition to a film library. A great film that you can enjoy over and over again.
