With a November 2001 Las Vegas performance that became an HBO special, Britney Spears headlines a visual spectacle that surpasses even Vegas's stage shows. From the opening "Oops! I Did It Again" to the closing "I'm a Slave 4 U," Spears and her dance troupe athletically romp through a live, life-size, 90-minute music video. There's no musical emphasis (usually the original recordings play while Spears nominally pays attention to what she's supposed to be singing), but that's not the point.
Soft-spoken offstage, Spears becomes someone else entirely in front of an audience: numerous costume changes, a plethora of filmed footage, awesome acrobatics, and a gigantic stage set create the ultimate triumph of visuals over music. During the encore, "Baby One More Time," rain drenches Spears, giving a born entertainer one final opportunity to leave her fans awestruck. The concert was broadcast live to four military bases, and Spears acknowledges the soldiers' service in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks. --Kevin Filipski
Customer Reviews:
Very Good Concert!.......2007-06-18
This DVD is actually pretty good. It has the links to either watch the full show or to watch each performance separately.
Britney Spears gives a really good show in this HBO live from Las Vegas presentation. Her songs are very catchy and the cameras are very good on following her and catching good close ups to Britney and her dancers.
This DVD has a really cool beginning, as well as a fun little band video. Britney and her team really ran the extra mile with this concert as it's really entertaining. It has really good choreographed dances, as well as special effects, and lots of costume changes. Also you get to see at least one Elvis there in the mix.
While the show starts with fire explosions and very high teck looking. It ends really cool with rain and a very nice sensual "baby one more time" that I kind of like better than the original one.
It's a fun concert, didn't find any mistakes on this one, defiantly one of Britney's greatest concerts or her time.
OMG, could she be hotter?????? sexier??????.......2007-06-01
Unlike today (May 2007), Britney's public image was riding high at this point and her tight clothes, amazing body and sexy dance moves are completely erotic. She is so unbelievably seductive and sensuous!! Her confidence and energy are infectious.
I just have one question: What in HELL is Jon Voight doing here??????? Jon Voight was famous 10 years before Britney was born, for crying out loud. He's an anachronism here.
But seriously! Not to mention, his little segment was hokey and silly, embarrassing and painful to watch, and it was a distraction from the substance of the rest of the show. Maybe Britney (or her management) was trying too hard to show her wholesome side. No one came to this concert (and no male bought it) to watch Jon Voight read a story to a little girl.
I'm surprised there was no audible booing at that point. I have owned the videotape for some time, but I think the DVD would be even better!
I also strongly recommend her Greatest Hits DVD for sexy alternative versions of some of her videos.
The Princess of pop goes Rock.......2007-05-10
"Britney Spears: Live from Las Vegas" provides footage from Britney's first-ever US tour. Focusing on material from her third album, "Britney", such as "I'm A Slave 4 U," "Boys" and "Anticipating", there are also throwbacks to her first two albums, such as the classic hits "Oops!..I Did It Again," "(You Drive Me) Crazy" and the amazing finale "...Baby One More Time." The tour is much more rockier than her earlier style, but it's a very welcome move as she funks her way through 90minutes of energetic performance. Yes she's miming and yes there are a few bizarre moments such as the story-time segment, but she more than makes up for it with her troupe of dancers, slick moves and stunning costumes. With a high budget for the best visual effects she performs under a waterfall, plays with fire, dances in mid-air and even challenges herself to a dance-off.
For the guys there's some pole and dirty dancing, for the girls she provides the best incentive to never again eat choccie biccies. I love Britney and I loved every minute, especially as on the DVD you get as a bonus the videos for "I'm A Slave 4 U", "Overprotected", "I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman", plus the trailer for her movie "Crossroads". Turn the bass up, turn the volume up, and get ready to move.
I've seen it all before.............2007-01-09
this tour did nothing for me. I won't lie when I say the visuals were appealing to look at, with britney in her cute clothes and stage sets, but she TOTALLY rips off janet jackson with her dancing, style of dress and so forth, so I don't understand why little teenagers like her and won't give ms. jackson the time of day when she's the one who did it better than her. I got a sense of deja vu when I watched bits of this show, I felt that she purposely stole elements from the janet, velvet rope and all for you tours such as the costumes! Janet's All For You Tour, Madonna's Drowned World Tour and even Michael Jackson's 30th Anniversary concert were far more entertaining in 2001, and way more superior than this garbage. This garbage just goes to show that young & pretty stars are given more attention than those who actually have more talent that shines even without all the special effects in the world.
FOR THE BRITNEY FAN IN YOU.......2006-10-18
I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS VIDEO TO ANY ONE THAT CONSIDERS THEMSELEVES TO BE A FAN BECAUSE NO BRITNEY FAN SHOULD BE WITHOUT IT , IN THIS LIVE CONCERT VIDEO BRITNEY GIVES IT HER ALL , YOU'LL SEE BRITNEY PERFORMING LIVE FROM LAS VEGAS SINGING ALL HER HIT SONGS AND DANCING UP A STORM BEFORE THOUSANDS OF ENTHUSIASTIC FANS ,YOU'LL BE TRANSPORTED BACK TO A TIME WHEN BRITNEY WAS AT THE HIGHLIGHT OF HER CAREER AND WHEN MUCH OF THE WORLD WAS STILL IN LOVE WITH HER, IF BRITNEY HOLDS A SPECIAL PLACE IN YOUR HEART THAN THIS IS ONE VIDEO YOU DONT WANNA BE WITHOUT.

Customer Reviews:
"She betrayed me.".......2006-03-16
Cartoonist Drood (Tom Hulce) is drawn into a web of corruption, blackmail and deceit in the neo-noir thriller, "Slam Dance" from director Wayne Wang. Drood is a disconnected character who exists in a peculiar apartment, avoiding deadlines, contact with the outside world, and parental responsibilities. When Drood, who's separated from his wife, Helen (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) is kidnapped and beaten by two strangers, he turns to the police for help. While being questioned by detectives, he discovers that his lover Yolanda Caldwell (Virginia Madsen) has been murdered, and that he's labeled a suspect. Drood, who has a lifetime habit of avoiding responsibility, shrugs off Yolanda's murder--or at least he tries to ....
"Slam Dance" exudes an atmosphere of the bizarre and the weird set against the murder of the mysterious Yolanda. Yolanda's death, and Drood's unexplained kidnapping are freak occurrences in a surreal world. The film establishes this atmosphere by the well-placed use of background devices--such as radio talk shows reporting alien abductions. Drood's stone-deaf, loony landlady adds to the atmosphere with her theories of post offices conspiracies, and Drood, whose character gradually shifts from passivity to action, discovers the hard way that nothing is quite what it seems.
While the film's neo-noir style is nicely established (with shades of David Lynch), the film's plot holes are enough to trip even the most determined. By the film's conclusion, there are far too many questions, and a sense of lingering annoyance at the more preposterous aspects of the plot. Adam Ant has a fairly small part as club owner, Jim, and fans will want to see him in the film. Mary Mastrantonio seems horribly miscast as Drood's wife. All in all, rather disappointing--displacedhuman
A MOVIE THAT STARS TOM HULCE.....REMEMBER HIM?.......2005-09-15
Slam Dance tells the story of a Los Angeles loser named Drood who looks like Amadeus and draws unfunny cartoons for a living. He has an ex-wife with an out-of-control perm who works in a day care with a bunch of kids that look like they take the short bus (one of them hits Drood in the crotch with a rubber chicken). He also has a little daughter named Bean who likes him to take his teeth out and runs in during inappropriate moments like when Drood mistakes a nude prostitute for a secretary (don't ask).
Drood is cool enough at least to have Adam Ant play his best friend. Adam doesn't do a whole hell of a lot in this movie except wear late 80s mod clothes and come out with bad jokes like "How many surrealist painters does it take to screw in a lightbulb? The fish."
It seems that before the movie started Drood was involved with a mysterious blond played by Virginia Madsen, who made an 80s career out of playing mysterious blonds before she was in "Candyman." She was recently resurrected from the dead for the movie "Sideways" and earned an Oscar nomination for it. I'm glad the Academy is no longer prejudiced against walking corpses. But I digress. Virginia isn't in the movie very much except in flashback sequences and a reoccurring photograph where she's smiling at two men facing her wearing scuba masks looking like they're going to pee on her. But hey, she got on the DVD cover!!! She's been murdered and Drood is the main suspect. I guess because he slept with her. Among his other problems, Drood keeps getting stalked by a skinny guy wearing sunglasses and a red Members Only jacket. The guy beats up Drood a lot and sticks a gun in his face while saying stuff like "she thought you were so smart." Alluding to the concept that he knew the mysterious blond.
Flashbacks seem to be the main way Wang tells the story. And he makes that very clear about 20 minutes into the movie. Problem is, the flashbacks he's showing are things that we, the audience, viewed in the first 20 minutes as well. Why does he feel a need to show us these things again? It actually doesn't help the plot along and it just makes the movie longer. Maybe that's the point. Because actually there really isn't much of a plot to sustain the running time. To fill the gaps Wang uses the aforementioned flashbacks, music montages, and long gaps between dialogue bits. The dialogue is sparse in this film which is effective for two reasons, one because it helps to maintain the strange atmosphere (which the film has plenty of) but also because the dialogue sucks, so the less of it the better. One example:
Drood: Are you going to help me or not?
Adam Ant: No! You're a selfish f%@k! I'm calling the police.
Drood: Let me borrow your car.
Adam Ant: No.
Drood: Give me the keys.
Adam Ant: No.
Drood: I said give me the f%&king keys!!
You get the point. Somehow I don't think Wang was too concerned about the dialogue, he was more concerned about being stylish. And in that he succeeds. The film ultimately makes no sense but Wang uses a lot of deliberate pausing, an effective score, and great photography to wrap around a crappy script. Hey, it worked for me, I own it. It's a great film to have on when you want to go brain-dead or when you're playing the game, "Zombies." Other than that, forget it.
From Amadeus to this?.......2005-03-27
Apparently when this was first released it was largely ignored and it should have stayed that way. While Adam Ant was memorable in this film, the other actors should wipe it from their resumes. Hulce, the star of "Amadeus" was over-the-top, an over-emoting unbelievable character. At times the editing was confusing as the movie darted about. The only good thing I can find to say about this is that it is over. To compare this to Hitchcock is an insult to Hitchcock! Though I may stand alone in my opinion here, you may be the person who would agree with me, so, caveat emptor.
Adam Ant Movie Lover.......2002-05-29
I originally watched this movie only becuase I'm an avid Adam Ant fan. I was totally suprised at what a sleeper hit this was. I'm not sure how a movie with Tom Hulce, hot off his Amadeus film, and Mary Elizabeth Mastratonio could have been missed at the box office. Adam Ant play his typical bad boy part with great zeal. A movie that will keep you watching and wondering. Also, a great part of the Police Detective played admirably by Harry Dean Stanton.
Hitchcock gets the big Wang treatment.......2001-03-15
Indie director Wayne Wang ("Chan Is Missing") was given a shot at a higher budget film and proved to be quite a stylish moviemaker with this largely ignored thriller from the late 80's. Almost universally panned by critics at the time of release (for no readily apparent reasons) this is one movie that deserves a second appraisal; I think it's one of the better of the 80's crop of stylish "neo noirs"--on a par with "Someone To Watch Over Me", "The Bedroom Window" and "Something Wild". Wang uses the classic Hitchcock "wrong man" scenario to push his hapless cartoonist turned murder suspect Tom Hulce through a twisty Kafkaesque nightmare with a Los Angeles backdrop.A fair amount of subtle black humor gives the film a unique flavor, as well as an excellent supporting cast. There's a bit of 80's rock star stunt casting with X's John Doe as a corrupt cop, Adam Ant (surprisingly effective) as Hulce's shady pal, and you'll have to look fast for a dreadlocked Mark Anthony Thompson in a cameo as a bartender. Not for all tastes, but a sleeper worth waking up for.
