Description
Jack London is a rugged young aspiring writer determined to lift himself out of poverty by any means necessary. Dissatisfied with working conditions at a canning company, London enlists in a string of adventurous jobs, from oyster pirating to seal-hunting on the Bering Sea and searching for Yukon gold. Mercilessly bullied for his bookishness, and surviving intolerable living conditions, London's spirit, strength and determination allow him to triumph over man and nature, while every night he writes about the poverty and brutality he witnesses. After a successful publishing deal with The Call of the Wild makes him famous, London falls in love with the beautiful Charmain Kittredge, but his insatiable drive for adventure forces him to choose between marriage and kids and an opportunity to travel the world as a war reporter. A compelling biography and moving tribute to the great American author Jack London who finds his literary voice through the struggles of everyman.

Created and produced by TV legend Jack Webb, Emergency! delivered a double dose of medical drama and real-life action into its stories, which made it a major favorite among viewers during its '72-77 network run. The season 1 set compiles the first 11 episodes of the program, in which paramedics Gage (Randolph Mantooth) and DeSoto (Kevin Tighe) tackle crises both big and small, from plane accidents ("Crash," "Dealer's Wild") and baby deliveries ("Brushfire") to the rescue of a horse in a ditch ("Publicity Hound"). Ably assisting the men in the field are the emergency room hospital staff, led by Dr. Joe Early (Bobby Troup, the composer of "Route 66"), Dr. Kelly Brackett (Robert Fuller of Laramie), and Nurse Dixie McCall (singer Julie London); Deirdre Hall of Days of Our Lives fame also appeared (in this season only) as Nurse Sally Lewis. An energetic and entertaining series, the success of Emergency not only spawned a host of promotional tie-ins (and a Saturday morning cartoon), but also helped spark attention for and interest in paramedic work during its network run, which is a considerable legacy for any television program.
Though no extras are included in the season 1 double-disc set, the 1972 two-part pilot, "The Wedsworth-Townsend Affair," is included; directed by Jack Webb, the pilot also features guest appearances by Martin Milner and Kent McCord in their roles from another of his then-current series, Adam-12. --Paul Gaita

5 Alarm Rescue From Ho Hum TV Today.......2007-07-05
EMERGENCY was unlike any hospital etc. shows before. You were given before, during and after of patients hospital care. You were treated to the suspense of the rescues and transports to the hospital. You were given background to Station House 51 and its crews as well as the doctor's and nurses at Rampart General Hospital. In this first season you'll see the rookies beginning their careers as firemen, and you get to see the trials of starting the paramedic program in L.A. County. You also get to see how Gage and DeSoto and others meet those trials and challenges to cement the paramedic program in place for the county. The actors in this show were a mix of veterans and new-comers to us, and their talents blended for great entertainment. Don't pass up on this season or the following seasons on DVD.
A must have if you watch this TV Show as an kid........2007-06-15
I sure did enjoyed watching Emergency- Season One.
It has been a very long time since I have seen Emergency.
I had watched this TV show as a kid growing up.
Brings back good memories of great TV.......2007-05-19
As a kid, I used to watch Emergency and loved it. This show is a great time capsule to remember how things were in the 70's. Brings back good memories of my childhood and great wholesome TV that the entire family could watch.
Did not recall.......2007-04-10
When viewing Season I, I did not recall the movie which started the television show. The movie helped explain the relationship between Dr. Early and Dixie McCall. It was fun to see everyone looking so young and how medicine has changed over the years.
Quality Television.......2007-04-08
It was nice to discover that these are out on DVD! As a child, I would spend Saturday night at the Firehouse with Dad and the other volunteers to watch the latest episode of Roy and Johnny. The only thing that made it more exciting for me was a real call being dispatched in the middle of the show!

They step onto the stage of London's Royal Albert Hall: Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, and Eric Clapton. The capacity crowd, which includes Sean Penn and Jude Law, stands to greet them. Thirty-seven years after their farewell concert, the famously fiery Cream did the unthinkable--they reunited. This double-disc collection (and accompanying CD set) captures highlights from the historic four-day engagement, beginning with a buoyant "I'm So Glad" and ending with a triumphant "Sunshine of Your Love." It would be churlish to suggest that Cream appears exactly as they did in the 1960s (Bruce looks a little frail), but the legendary power trio still has the goods. Bruce is still the essence of soul (a particularly rich vocal on "Politician"), while Baker is as irrepressible as ever (a rare vocal on "Pressed Rat and Warthog," percussive tour-de-force "Toad"). Then there's Clapton, who remains as much a master of the guitar as of understatement. "Thanks for waiting all these years," he quips after a slow-burning "Outside Woman Blues," then adds, "We're going to do every song we know." The track listing is, indeed, generous, despite the absence of such Cream classics as "I Feel Free," "Strange Brew," and "Tales of Brave Ulysses." All told, there are 22 songs plus three alternate takes--and not a bad one in the bunch. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
Description
In May of 2005 Cream returned to London's Royal Albert Hall-to the same stage where they had completed what was thought to be their final performance in 1968. It was one of the most eagerly anticipated, hard-to-get tickets in rock history. With the exception of a brief reunion set at their 1993 induction into the Rock and roll Hall of Fame, Cream had not played together in nearly four decades. This DVD documents Cream's momentous London shows. Performances from each of the four nights are featured and much more. Also included are alternate performances and interviews with Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce, and Eric Clapton. Cream formed in 1966 and disbanded in 1968. The band were a prolific and thrilling live act and toured incessantly in their short but remarkable history.Track Listings: I'm So Glad, Spoonful, Outside Woman Blues, Pressed Rat & Warthog, Sleepy Time Time, N.S.U., Badge, Politician, Sweet Wine, Rollin' & Tumblin', Stormy Monday, Deserted Cities of the Heart, Born Under a Bad Sign, We're Going Wrong, Crossroads, Sitting on Top of the World, White Room, Toad, Sunshine of Your Love, Spoonful (Alternate Takes), Sleepy Time Time (Alternate Takes), Badge (Alternate Takes), Sweet Wine (Alternate Takes), Rollin' & Tumblin', We're Going Wrong, White Room, Sunshine of Your Love
Customer Reviews:
Rock Stars are like pro athletes, they should retire by 45.......2007-06-25
I've read some of the delusional, worshipping comments of other's reviews here, and I just think they are all looking at Cream through Rose-tinted glasses. This put-back together band sounds slow, tentative, tired. Jack Bruce looks like they pulled him out of a nursing home to do this. Individually, they can still play, but their cohesion is slow- they are devoid of energy. Just go look at the other DVD, the one from the same place at the end of the 60s, and see the forcefull energy that band fired out there at the end of a comet-like three year run. The before-and-after contrast of 46 years is startling.
Cream's Triumphant Return.......2007-04-01
Crream's triumphant return is brilliantly filmed during their week in Albert Hall. The sound quality and photography is first rate, and the images are well-timed and skillfully directed.
The band itself is in top form and shows its musical age and experience brilliantly. Eric Clapton's guitar playing is as good as you will see or hear anywhere. Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker still are an exciting and stimulating rhythm section, and, in fact, Bruce does his famous duelling with Clapton on some of the numbers here. We see it especially in Sunshine of Your Love. Bruce and Clapton, despite their ages, still manage to sing their numbers with the same kind of verve as they did almost 40 years prior.
Of special interest here is the lack of gimmickry. There are no wah-wah pedals, for example, and no real distortion feedback effects. Stilll, the DVD has much to keep up the interest of the Cream fan who watches it.
No DVD of a live performance is perfect, and there are few but notable letdowns here. For instance, they include the witty but musically weak "Pressed Rat and Warthog" from the Wheels of Fire collection. The version of "Toad" here is rather long, and I'm not a fan of drawn-out drum solos, although Baker is amazingly energetic in this one.
Still, for any Cream fans out there, this is a fine DVD to have. You probably won't watch this just once!
THE TRIUMPHANT RETURN OF THE CREAM IN 2005........2007-03-06
As I stated on the last DVD review of "CREAM FAREWELL CONCERT," I will be doing a follow-up and add to my friend Metamorpho's excellent reviews of all of CREAM'S legendary albums. I already wrote the review on the legendary historic DVD concert "CREAM FAREWELL CONCERT" from 26 November 1968. I will now write a review on the recent 2-3-5-6, May 2005 historic reunion concert of CREAM live at The Royal Albert Hall in London, England. With these two reviews and Metamorpho's excellent CREAM reviews, this will finally complete the CREAM series on a good positive note and not the way CREAM tragically ended in November 1968. Again, this one's for you Metamorpho and for the MIGHTY CREAM.
I will be writing a review on the now legendary historic return DVD concert performance entitled "CREAM, ROYAL ALBERT HALL, LONDON, MAY 2-3-5-6, 2005" by one of Rock's greatest legendary bands and the greatest three-man band ever assembled. I give you one of England's pride and joy's, the one and only, THE MIGHTY C-R-E-A-M. This legendary historic DVD concert performance was originally released in 2005 on Compact Disc and DVD on the Reprise Records label in association with Rhino Records Entertainment which is a Time Warner Music Company. As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary historic DVD concert performance or the artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the best informative and most accurate review possible. And now, without further delay, it is now time for me to take you back in time to the accounts and events that would lead to the "CREAM REUNION CONCERT" from 2005.
CREAM will forever be remembered as being Rock's first true supergroup and for being the greatest three-man band in Rock n' Roll history. CREAM would forever change the sound of how the blending and mixture of Blues and Rock n' Roll would flow through the speakers and amplifiers. When CREAM performed their final farewell concert at The Royal Albert Hall in London on 26 November 1968, Rock n' Roll would suffer a major loss and be dealt with a devastating blow. Thirty-seven long years would go by with no reunions or performances due to the inactivity of CREAM. How about this, actually from 1968 to 1993, twenty-five long years would go by with no reunions or performances due to the inactivity of CREAM until their induction into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame in January 1993. CREAM would perform live on stage for the first time in twenty-five years. CREAM performed like they never broke up or left Rock n' Roll. In my opinion, this single 1993 performance would set the stage for the DVD concert I'm about to review for you now, twelve years later in the making. May I also add that I never thought in my wildest dreams, that I would ever be doing a review on the recent historic reunion concert by THE MIGHTY CREAM. From disbelief, I even had to see the concert on DVD for myself to make sure that it was CREAM. And sure enough, IT WAS. Seeing the concert, It was great seeing all three together on stage again. Eric looked great and Ginger looked very vibrantly healthy. Jack on the other hand, did not look very healthy at all. Please forgive me for saying this and I do not mean to offend anyone especially Jack, Ginger and Eric. I do not know if CREAM did this reunion for the money or not. In my opinion, I do not think money played a part in this reunion at all. I think that ONLY LOVE could have brought these three giants back together again. Which leads me to Jack. I think that Jack is terribly ill and sick. I think that it was Jack's dying wish and request to perform with the MIGHTY CREAM for one last time. When you see Jack performing on stage, he seems so terribly weak. He even has a stool on stage to sit on while still performing since he can barely stand up. I really truly hope that I'm wrong but if it is true, I praise Eric and Ginger for putting aside their differences especially between Jack and Ginger and perform as CREAM and bring back the magic one more time. It would also seem to me that with this historic reunion that an old Rock n' Roll warrior like Jack Bruce may have finally found some inner peace within himself and made peace with the other two members and a great legendary band called CREAM. The funny thing about this reunion concert is that CREAM would mark their triumphant return and perform at the very same place where they ended some thirty-seven years ago. In my opinion, this legendary historic concert is another true testament of the brilliance, greatness and genius of three extremely talented masterminds and a fine fitting tribute to a great legendary band that adds more fuel into the legend and legacy of the greatest three-man band that ever lived that was truly ahead of their time. And yes, THIS CONCERT DOES TRULY KICK A*S. A LATE NOTE: I would deeply like to thank my fellow reader and reviewer ...'s or "Saucerhead" for the new info on Jack Bruce. He is quoted as saying: "Jack Bruce was diagnosed with Liver Cancer in 2003 and in fact, had a liver transplant in that same year with near fatal post-operation rejection complications. This would definitely account for his unhealthy appearance in the 2005 CREAM reunion. According to WIKIPEDIA ORG, so far and hopefully, he has since recovered." I wish Jack Bruce well and pray and hope that he has made a full recovery.
Now it is time for their music to speak for itself and do all of the talking. CREAM would take the stage before a thunderous ovation. On DISC ONE, the concert begins with the same legendary Rocker that the band ended with in November 1968, "I'm So Glad," the slow blistering shorter version Blues classic "Spoonful," the breathtaking Blues Rocker "Outside Woman Blues," the first time ever performed live and sung by Ginger, "Pressed Rat And Warthog," the slow beautiful soothing Blues classic "Sleepy Time Time," the energetic Blues Rocker "N.S.U.," the late great George Harrison composition Blues Rocker "Badge," the slow haunting killer Blues classic "Politician," the slow turned fast paced Rocker "Sweet Wine," the train sounding harmonica filled speedy drums number "Rollin' And Tumblin'," the flooring slow Blues classic "Stormy Monday," the amazing and incredible Blues Rocker "Deserted Cities Of The Heart," the mindblowing slow Blues classic "Born Under A Bad Sign" and the sizzling Blues Rocker "We're Going Wrong." The alternate takes of the blistering Blues Rockers "Sleepy Time Time" and "We're Going Wrong" are excellent and could have replaced the chosen versions easily. END OF DISC ONE.
DISC TWO begins with the new blistering Robert Johnson Blues classic Rocker "Crossroads," the forever CREAM trademark Rocker "White Room," the return of Ginger Baker, the incredible "Toad" and concludes the concert with the forever CREAM trademark breakthrough heavy metal Rocker "Sunshine Of Your Love." The alternate take of "Sunshine Of Your Love" sounds about as good as the chosen version if not better. This disc also includes interviews with all three CREAM members and they talk about the events that led to the breakup in 1968 and the events that let up to their reunion concert in 2005. END OF DISC TWO. May I add that Eric Clapton played guitar with such raw energy and power that I have not heard from him in years. This concert is the best that I have ever seen Eric Clapton ever play. Eric Clapton must have found the fountain of youth because he KICKED A*S. Clapton was playing guitar incredibly well and was on fire. Ginger Baker played his drums like he also found the fountain of youth because he kicked a*s. Despite looking terribly ill and sitting on his stool for much of the time during the concert, Jack Bruce really dug deep down within his heart and delivered a blistering performance. Jack's bass playing and patterns were the breakthrough for all bass players and he proves it and shows why in this concert.
Overall, this is one hell of a concert worth seeking and checking out especially for the new beginners and curious ones that are new to the sound and music of the MIGHTY CREAM.
I would like to highly recommend purchasing this legendary historic DVD concert to own as a valuable and important part of his or her own personal DVD music concert collection. This legendary historic DVD concert has already proven to stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER. THIS CONCERT IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY IN THE MAKING, THIS IS ONE CONCERT THAT YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE WITHOUT.
In closing, CREAM has done the impossible. CREAM defied all the odds and came out of no where to bless us with their magic and presence in order to play and perform their own special blend of music one more time. With the extreme success of CREAM'S reunion concert at The Royal Albert Hall in London, England on 2-3-5-6 May 2005, concert promoters would get together and book CREAM here in the United States at New York's Madison Square Garden. Tickets would sell out immediately upon sale availability. I guess this shows that CREAM still lives and is still extremely popular to this very day. What now holds in store for CREAM? Only the future knows whats in store for CREAM and all of us and it will unfold before us all when it is appropriate. One thing that is certain is that CREAM'S contributions and accomplishments in Rock n' Roll and Blues are well secured and will never be forgotten. So here's to you Eric, Jack and Ginger. Keep Persevering. Keep The Faith. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY," need I say more? Thanks for reading my review and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. LONG LIVE THE CREAM. Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever In Rock, John L.

The frantic pacing of Big Trouble is surely intentional, but the movie leaves you wanting more of... something. Not more characters--it's got plenty of those--but more room for them to breathe in a top-heavy plot that recalls Get Shorty (also directed by Barry Sonnenfeld) without reaching those heights of ingenuity. Based on the bestseller by syndicated Miami Herald columnist Dave Barry, this Miami-based mayhem bears the distinct imprint of Barry's humor, in which absurdities pile up like rush-hour traffic, involving a former journalist (Tim Allen) connected by circumstance to a wealthy schemer (Stanley Tucci), his bored wife (Rene Russo), Russian mobsters, mismatched cops (Janeane Garofalo, Patrick Warburton), power-crazed FBI agents (Heavy D, Omar Epps), a Frito-loving drifter (Jason Lee), cretinous criminals (Tom Sizemore, Johnny Knoxville), and a gigantic toad that shoots hallucinogenic saliva. Culminating in an airport bomb smuggling (prompting the film's delayed release after the tragedy of September 11, 2001), Big Trouble needs the brilliant cohesion of Dr. Strangelove; what it gets is Sonnenfeld's knack for sustained chaos, and a few decent belly laughs. --Jeff Shannon
Description
The laughs come fast and furious as Tim Allen (JOE SOMEBODY, GALAXY QUEST) and Rene Russo (SHOWTIME, THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR) star in a film from Barry Sonnenfeld, director of GET SHORTY and MEN IN BLACK. Based on humorist Dave Barry's best-selling first novel, BIG TROUBLE follows the comedic chaos created when a mysterious suitcase that threatens the security of Miami changes the lives of a divorced dad, an unhappy housewife, 2 hit men, a pair of street thugs, 2 love-struck teens, 2 FBI men, and a psychedelic toad. There is something for everyone no matter who is looking for BIG TROUBLE -- and in the end, all-star comedy conquers all.

Not as good as the book, but still very funny.......2007-03-19
This is a funny movie! If you haven't read the book, see the movie, then read the book. But do both!
funny, funny.......2007-02-12
This movie has it all. Dave Barry, Tim Allen, Florida, crooks, bozos, cops, bozos, goats, a bomb and Martha Stewart (NOT like you would expect - trust me).
Silly + Idiotic = Classic Dave Berry Video.......2007-01-16
The book "Big Trouble" was Dave Barry's first novel and was his first effort into 'full length' literature. Of course, Dave Barry had already been writing for several years before he penned "Big Trouble" but most of his works up to that time had been ten-minute stories for the Miami Herald. Even his many books were little more than compilations of his weekly newspaper pieces. But "Big Trouble" was different. It had a story to tell. It was a funny story (how could Dave Barry do anything else?) and I enjoyed it tremendously!
But now, "Big Trouble" has been made into a movie and like all other movies-from-books, I expected "Big Trouble", the movie, to have very little in common with "Big Trouble", the book. But I was pleasently surprised because the movie followed the book very closely! Everything that I thought was funny in the book was repeated, mostly word-for-word, in the movie. The producer and director aparrently didn't feel that they could improve on Dave Barry's writing style and the video audience is so much the better for it. (Now if we could only convince other movie producers to follow the original books more faithfully...)
Anyway, my wife and I (both big Dave Barry fans) watched the movie on a quiet evening during the Christmas holidays and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We didn't expect the movie to be a statement on any current politics (the Iraq War, The Bush Administration, Britney Spears nekkid internet pictures, etc) nor did we expect the movie to solve any of mankind's problems (world hungar, disease, Britney Spears, etc.) What we got was what we expected - silly, corny humor and a good reason to sit on the couch and wolf down a bucket of popcorn. If it's something important and meaningful that you crave, forget this video. Watch a Britney Spears video instead.
More like Big Fun!.......2007-01-12
This is a great movie! Everybody and their mother is in it and it is just full of funny stuff! Even if you don't like Tim Allen, you will like this movie!
Big Trouble - funniest movie in years!.......2007-01-04
Big Trouble based on the novel by Dave Barry that i read first and probably the book is a little , just a little bit funnier. The actors are amazing (Dennis Farina and the seat belt, gators fan!), all duets are so funny that everybody will find their favorites!

The Bradys just keep on movin', keep on groovin', keep on doin' it right. By season four the Brady Bunch crew had got the magical formula down and was churning out one groovy television classic after another. Not only is season four the best of the later seasons, including the memorable performance by the Brady band "The Silver Platters," but the episodes included in this run almost read as a "Brady best-of" list. If there is a hall of fame for three part television episodes, this season's opener would easily be among the top five. The "Bradys Abroad" formula seemed to be so successful after season four's two-part opening trip to the Grand Canyon, the gang was able to pack it up and head to Hawaii. The Hawaii trip has it all; a family trip to the USS Arizona, Greg's Surf contest, a family Luau, the mysterious tiki idol, and guest appearances by b-horror staple Vincent Price and Hawaiian idol Don Ho. After the tropical vacation it's back to school. In order to fit in, Marcia the freshman signs up for every after-school activity on campus including the elitist "Boosters." Greg's love life gets complex when he discovers his girlfriend and sister are both in competition for the coveted head cheerleading spot, and he is the judge! Love strikes Marcia too, who falls in love with her dreamy dentist, only to be crushed by Jan's news that he is married with children. Never one to rest on the rebound, Marcia lands a date with Doug the campus hero only to have her heart ripped out once again when the boys break her nose with an errant flying football. Then there's Peter who has to play Benedict Arnold in the school play and is suddenly on the receiving end of his peers' snide remarks calling him a traitor. And in the classic season finale Greg and Marcia battle it out to see who gets to move out of the kids' bedroom and into their own space in the attic. Corny, yet cool, dated, yet timeless, vanilla as is comes, but still mesmerizing, The Brady Bunch - The Complete Fourth Season is the season that most people will identify as quintessential Brady. --Rob Bracco
Customer Reviews:
I would give it 6 stars.......2007-05-20
I bought this after repeated requests and nagging by my six year old daughter. She had caught a Brady Bunch marathon on TV about a year ago, and has wanted the video ever since. She loves it, and insisted I give it 6 stars. I watched the original episodes as a kid, and never missed a week! My only regret is that I should have purchased the entire set of all seasons, as now we watch "reruns"! I plan to buy the movie, which I have seen , and which is hillarious.
Awesome .......2007-04-10
I love this set of dvds it was one of my favorite shows and to be able to own the episodes is nice .
Great back then and great now!.......2006-11-05
I loved Brady Bunch as a kid, and now my kids love it! Season 4 is great, our whole family loved it (especially our 7 year old twins). It was fun to watch a show I used to watch when I was young, and now share it with my kids! I highly recommend all the Brady bunch seasons!
Good Clean Family Fun!.......2006-03-28
I grew up watching the Brady Bunch and have spent years watching reruns. I never grow tired of the majority of them and I am now almost 45 years old. My kids like the Hawaii episodes and especially Greg Gets Grounded and The Subject is Noses. The stories are simple, but entertaining--sometimes even laugh out loud funny. It's nice to see kids who are respectful to their parents and not into any major trouble. People say this isn't real life, but I grew up in the 70's and life was pretty simple-- even in my less than perfect family.
The best thing? Your kids can watch because the content is clean!
Another good season despite the Brady kids growing older.......2006-03-06
The fourth season was another good season, though they had a difficult time in the writing. Happens when shows approach their fourth year. Sometimes, it's difficult to write something about the kids getting older, because it's hard to see what it's like in real life. Greg moved into his own room in the attic, having his own independence. And the sibling rivalries of the girls calmed down a bit. Greg's brothers had freedom in their room. And Mike and Carol had their situations too--I still remember one show that included them that was so funny! Somehow the age of the show was beginning to show, as I watched the reruns of the 1972 and 1973 shows in 1980 or so.

Because of Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch, writer-producer Sherwood Schwartz will forever be a TV hall-of-famer. They were his only real hits, but they were both grand slams in their prime times and have remained syndicated favorites ever since. Following closely on the Gilligan's Island season 2 release, The Brady Bunch is ready for home theaters with a nicely designed, 4-disc set of 25 first-season episodes. The pilot episode, "The Honeymoon" sets up the story we all know from the theme song (lyrics by Schwartz) by giving us the marriage of Mike and Carol and the coming together of the six kids. Schwartz provides commentary for just this first show, but he fondly recalls his intention of sweet, subdued, and often corny gags the pre-fab family encountered as a precise format each week. Two other episodes include commentary by Barry Williams (Greg), Christopher Knight (Peter), and Susan Olson (Cindy), and their reminiscences are equally affectionate about time on the show and everyone's surprise at its enormous success. Every Brady episode is a classic in some sense, and this first of five seasons (those kids did grow up fast) includes some real charmers when the six Brady kids still seemed impossibly young. It's hard to say the show was ever hip, even though it became slightly more attuned to a pop sensibility as the Bradys moved into the '70s. But man, is this 1969 everyfamily ever square. Even so, it's hard to resist the way each one gets their own screen time with shows devoted to simple childhood joys and traumas--Jan's missing locket, Cindy's missing baby doll, Greg's crush on his math teacher, Peter's swelled head when he gets his picture in the paper, etc.
In a brief bonus featurette we get more innocuously entertaining interview comments from Schwartz, Williams, Olson, Knight, and Mike Lookinland (Bobby). It's interesting that all the subjects make note of how seriously the classically trained (now-deceased) Robert Reed took his role as patriarch, Mike Brady. His reputation as being "difficult" followed the long run of the show, but if Schwartz's first choice had gotten the role it could have been a lot worse. (Schwartz is delighted to reveal the famous name and career path that followed, so the mystery shouldn't be spoiled here.) As it was during its TV run, The Brady Bunch on DVD is clearly meant for a specific generation--yours. --Ted Fry

The Brady Bunch Lives Forever.......2007-05-12
I've just ordered the First Season of The Brady Bunch..for my granddaughter. She watched the two-parter Hawaii vacation episode with me a few weeks ago and was hooked (she's [...]). She made me promise to get her more episodes to watch, so I guess it's true, it IS a nice little show that will never die. I have to admit, I'll be watching the episodes with her.
How It All Began For Television's Much Loved "Blended", Family.......2007-03-11
Wow what to say about the Brady's! I literally grew up with this family every afternoon after school and now all these years later they still hold a wonderfully warm place in my heart which I hope never dies. Premiering in September 1969 this series was the brain child of Sherwood Schwartz who of course also created the classic "Gilligan's Island" another of my all time favourites. The series for the time was really quite unique in the respect that it began with two families being run by widowed parents coming together to form one family, the Brady's. Second marriages until then were extremely rare on televison and that gave the series, especially in its early days many great opportunities to show the troubles, adjustments, and joys of two different families coming together as one. Even though I love all five seasons of the show my favourite without a doubt is this first season where the children obviously because of their age were at their cutest, and episodes did make an attempt to show the adjustments the two families went through when they joined together. Season One for me is also special because it had more of a 1960's look to it still before it took off on its super groovy course once it moved into the 1970's.
One of the really strong points of "The Brady Bunch", was the excellent group of performers in the cast who were all first rate in my belief. Robert Reed and Florence Henderson as Mike and Carol Brady made really likeable and warm parents and had a terrific chemistry together that made them seem like a husband and wife coping with six children. Henderson in particular has a number of very touching moments in various Season One episodes as she takes on the mothering of the three Brady boys who had lost their own mother. And who could forget the totally wonderful Anne B. Davis? This veteran television comedy performer has always been my favourite Brady, (well her surname on the show was Nelson but to me she was always a member of the family) and as the wisecracking, ever bubbly housekeeper Alice she was always a total joy in each episode and she often got the funniest lines. I also have great affection for all six actors playing the Brady children on the show and it was great how as the series progressed and the children grew older each slowly developed their own distinct personality much the same as real life children naturally do. Long crucified by the critics "The Brady Bunch", has proven all the skeptics wrong by never leaving the airwaves or viewers affections and it is now hopefully charming new generations of viewers via the season by season release of the show onto DVD.
"The Brady Bunch - The Complete First Season", DVD contains all twenty four first season episodes plus the original pilot "The Honeymoon". What a joy these nostalgic TV time capsules are for weary 21st Century television viewers like myself! Accused of being corny, and unrealistic, I feel that is an unfair dismissal of this show which I've always believed presented positive role models where family members were cared for and always encouraged to talk about their problems. I have many favourite episodes among this season but some of the standouts for me are;
"The Honeymoon" (Pilot), where we see Mike and Carol's wedding and some unexpected mayhem involving a run away fluffy and Tiger and a doomed wedding cake that has an unfortunate close encounter with Mike !
"Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore", where Alice, after encouraging the boys to start taking their troubles to their new mother, begins to feel unneeded and decides to leave only to be stopped from leaving by all the Bradys who together devise a plan to show her how much she is really valued.
"Every Boy Does It Once", where Bobby has a nightmare that Carol will turn out to be a bad Stepmother like in the movie "Cinderella", and decides to run away from home only to be stopped by Carol who shows her real love for her new son by telling him that the only "steps", in the Brady house are those on the stairs.
"A Camping We Will Go", where we see the first of the famous Brady holidays. Later memorable holidays would take the Bradys to the Grand Canyon and Hawaii in later seasons. This filmed on location episode puts the boys against the girls when they dont want any "females", along on their annual "male only", fishing trip.
"The Voice of Christmas", (my favourite) where Carol loses her voice in the lead up to the family's first Christmas together when she will be singing at Church on Christmas morning and its finally up to Cindy's strong belief in the true meaning of Christmas to save the day.
"The Brady Bunch", can certainly be viewed as the last gasp of television innocence from a simpler time however its likeable characters, familiar and yes perhaps sentimental view of life (nothing wrong with that!) still appeals to audiences 33 years after the show left the airwaves in prime time. As Florence Henderson once said in a interview discussing the eternal life of the Brady's, "Nothing seems to be able to keep this little show down". So true! And now we can enjoy the adventures of television's first truly blended family in these beautifully presented DVD box sets. What more could Brady buffs like myself ask for! Enjoy!
Kids love it!.......2006-11-13
While I purchased this for my husband, our kids absolutely love it. My husband and I both grew up watching the show and love reliving the episodes. We plan to eventually buy the entire series -- a great gift for hard-to-shop for people.
Here's the story of a lovely DVD set.......2006-09-19
There are very few television shows that have any staying power like the Brady Bunch. A television show that centered on the complicated lives of two parents getting married bringing with them each three kids from previous marriages. The hilarity ensues as the Brady household is quickly filled with six kids, a housekeeper, and a dog. The series avoided the common mistake of using current references and issues and stuck to the ageless problems encountered by growing kids. This formula gave the Brady Bunch a timeless quality that holds up today and makes for very wholesome family entertainment. The Brady Bunch may have only aired for five seasons, but it became the subject of countless spin-offs, parodies and look-a-likes. Many adults have fond memories of growing up with the Brady Bunch, and it is referenced continually in pop culture, giving it a special place in television history.
Paramount Television Collection continues their catalog releases with the popular Brady Bunch, but this time they have included a welcome change with the addition of a couple of extras. A featurette, as well as three episodes containing commentaries, are bonus features found on this set. All 25 first season episodes are included in this set and clock in at about 10 hours and 52 minutes according to the box. A common inclusion to all the Paramount Television releases recently, are multiple promos for various other sets. The promos are for Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Mork & Mindy and MacGyver. Each promo has a chapter index at the beginning to facilitate jumping to the main menu. The main menu itself is a static screen with a very colorful style common to the late '60s. The selection icon tends to get lost in the background on the main menu until you begin to navigate.
Packaging:
The set comes in a box with the 9-panel opening of the show recreated with a lenticular cover on the front. The lenticular cover is a neat touch that works quite well in good light. Inside the box are two slim cases each containing two single sided discs. The episode descriptions and original airdates for both discs are found on the back of each slim case. The artwork is full of screen captures and wonderful moments from the series, and the disc silk screens are very colorful and feature two of each characters' from the show.
Commentary Tracks
Creator/Producer Sherwood Schwartz provides commentary on the first episode entitled "The Wedding." His commentary lacks in any extensive detail with regards to this episode, and he tends to repeat things mentioned in the featurette. Sherwood Schwartz sticks to what he knows and talks about producing a series.
The commentary tracks on episode 8 "a-Camping We Will Go" and episode 21 "The Hero" are provided by Barry Williams (Greg), Christopher Knight (Peter) and Susan Olsen (Cindy). These commentary tracks make up for the first one with the enthusiasm and energy of the three actors. The actors reminisce about everything from the costumes and props, to inside details about certain scenes and neat little tidbits of information about the episodes. These commentaries are well worth listening to for an inside perspective on the creation of the show and its impact on the actors.
The Brady Bunch - Coming Together Under One Roof (17:29)
This is a 17 1/2 minute featurette that gives a broad perspective of the show and its creation. It provides a good intro to the series and is a welcome addition to this set for younger viewers and new viewers to the series. I look forward to seeing whether there was more material shot during the interviews that we will see on the next season sets.
Here's the Story..........2006-09-01
The Brady Bunch was on the air between 1969-1974...that's five years, people...what were we thinkin' to have them gone on for that long? Were we really that stoned in the 70s? C'mon!
Actually, I rather like the Brady Bunch especially season one. As the show progressed it seemed to get hokier and hokier. I guess Robert Reed (Mike Brady) was a real tyrant on the set; always battling with the writers and the directors. For those of you who don't know, Robert Reed was a classically trained actor and so, yeah, of course he's gonna have problems with the scripts and the direction of the show...but hey, Robert...."IT WAS NEVER MEANT TO BE SHAKESPEARE!"
I guess this show is now considered to be a television classic. Who knew? Even when it was on it never reached the top ten. It was always in the low double digits and now it's part of permanent pop culture. It's so stained with the 70s. Bad hair, bad clothes, bad furniture, bad painting schemes...I find myself watchin' it and I think to myself, "Good God...what were we thinking?" And then I see an old picture of myself from right around the same period at ten years old; maroon pants, an orange shirt, long hair jammed to the side sitting on a frickin' green and blue velvet chair...dang. What was I thinking?
It's a good show. It can be pretty funny at times. My favorite all time episode is when the two families had just become one and the "yucky 'ol girls" were going on the annual camping trip with the "Brady men."
I guess in years past, the Brady men just lived off of what they could fish out of the lake. well, not this time, they caught absolutely nuthin'. So knowing that the boys were feeling dejected as well as hungry, Carol whips out a picnic basket full of fried chicken and potato salad. Mike is about to dig in when a horrified Greg screams out, "Dad! Don't! That's sissy food..."
Cracks me up every time...
So, if you're in your 40s and you haven't yet had each episode drilled into your brain at least sixty times since they've been on in syndication, get the collection...or at least Season 1. You'll be thinkin' to yourself, "Holy crap! What was I thinkin'...?"

The Brady Bunch never scored high ratings during its five year run, but this friendly family comedy has remained in reruns ever since, while bigger hits have slipped into oblivion. Pretty much everyone who grew up in the 1970s or '80s knows the show inside and out: A vision of suburban family life so utopian it's as fantastical as Neverland or Santa's workshop--and just like these imaginary realms, it casts a spell over every kid who wished all problems could be resolved with a few wise words, a good-natured shrug, or a winsome smile. The Brady Bunch: The Complete Second Season is indistinguishable from every other season, but the reassuring formula is crucial to the show's appeal. Eldest brother Greg (Barry Williams) may decide he's all grown up and wants a groovy bachelor pad, or eldest sister Marcia (Maureen McCormick) may get all riled up about women's lib and decide to join the Frontier Scouts, or super-maid Alice (Ann B. Davis, whose persona is hilariously similar to Ellen DeGeneres) may fantasize about running off with an old flame, but by the end of the show you know everything will return to a zen-like domestic harmony.
It's all pretty bizarre when you realize that both halves of the family have suffered the death of a parent! The most angst to be found is the relentless identity crisis of middle sister Jan (Eve Plumb), who tries to remove her freckles with lemon juice and buys a curly brunette wig to forge a new self-image. Nowadays Jan would be a prime candidate for bulimia, but in the Brady world such psychodrama is unthinkable. This even emotional keel could have been creepy and antiseptic, but due to the charm of the kids and the smooth yet earthy presence of Robert Reed and Florence Henderson as parents Mike and Carol Brady, The Brady Bunch just seemed nice. You wanted that to be your family. If you watched the show in your childhood, watching The Brady Bunch: The Complete Second Season as an adult will lull you into a sweet, blissful dream. --Bret Fetzer

Complete Season 2 The Brady Bunch.......2007-05-13
I grew up watching the Brady Bunch and now my children, ages 5 and 9, enjoys watching it too. It is a nice, clean, family show to watch, unlike so many other shows on in today's world.
Groovy, Neato and Outtasite !.......2007-02-13
I initially bought season one for my 3 girls for Christmas two years ago. We watched all of the episodes over and over again. I, of course, got to re-live my childhood in the process. They begged me for more Brady Bunch so I bought season two. Now they are walking around talking like the Bradys. They use words like groovy, neato, dumm dumm etc. I just have to laugh. It's much better than them repeating other words they hear on t.v. We live in Europe so we don't get any re-runs of the old 70's sit-coms. I will definitely buy the rest of the Brady Bunch series. It's just good, clean, groovy fun.
The Bradys .......2007-01-10
I bought this for my niece (10) who somehow became a fan (thanks Nick@Nite?)
I watched a few episodes with her and none of the cheesy magic has really faded. Its become a bit of a passing of the torch in our house.
Nice way to live a few memories with kids.
GREAT SEASON! NOT AS GOOD AS THE FIRST!.......2006-07-30
The second season of "The Brady Bunch" saw the end of the "adjustment" squabble episodes and there's plenty of "classic" episodes in this set: "Where There's Smoke"....Greg caught smoking, "Will the Real Jan Brady Please Stand Up" and "The Not So Ugly DUckling"....the first two of Jan's "inferiority complex" episodes, "The Slumber Party Caper" and "Our Son the Man". There are also some real "underdeveloped" though not "stinker" episodes, just mediocre: "Double Parked", "Alice's September Swan Song", "A Day in the Life", ..... and like the Jan episodes above, a recurring theme with each of the Brady kids...."Lights Out" where Cindy has to overcome her fear of the dark because of a magic trick and the episode where Bobby has to overcome his fear of heights. The show is still entertaining and a cut above the rest of today's series. There are some great hilarious moments with Alice who always manages to steal the show with her witty comebacks and quips!
Thoroughly enjoyed by my [...] daughter and myself.......2006-05-16
As the other reviewers stated, there are no extras in this DVD set. It's "just" the Brady Bunch, no more, no less. I think my daughter watch the entire set overnight on her DVD player. I watched most of it one afternoon while my children were out. Instead of the dusting, mopping, and scrubbing I planned to do, I found myself parked in front of the TV. LOL, you can't hear the TV when the vacuum cleaner is running!
Anyway, if you're a Brady Bunch fan, you'll enjoy this. My 3 brothers,2 sisters, and myself were glued to the TV on Friday nights to watch this when we were young.Even though 35 years have passed since the Brady Bunch premiered, I still find myself strangely drawn to the Brady Bunch. As a mom and grandma, I would have no trouble letting the children and grandchildren watch this. I will be buying the other seasons of the Brady Bunch in the future.

Sometimes simplicity can be heartbreaking. So it is with The Clock, a wonderfully simple love story that stands as one of the gems of the MGM golden years. It should be noted right off that this 1945 film is not a musical, despite a talent roster led by the maestro of MGM musicals, producer Arthur Freed. Rather, it's a straight, black and white romance about a soldier (Robert Walker) with a two-day pass in unfamiliar, overwhelming New York City. He meets an office worker (Judy Garland), and in the glow of the city and each other, they fall in love. Underlying the sweetness of the romance is the time limit of the soldier's leave, after which he will be sent overseas; the clock brings an urgency to the action, especially after the lovers lose each other in the crush of a subway. Veteran character actor James Gleason provides lovely support, as does his real-life wife, Lucile. Director Vincente Minnelli brought his designer's eye to the film, turning (by his own avowed intention) New York City itself into the third main character in the drama. It's not difficult to guess the reason for the film's strong emotional tug, or for Judy Garland's radiance; Minnelli had fallen in love with Garland during the making of Meet Me in St. Louis a year earlier, and they would marry after filming The Clock. She was never lovelier than in these two pictures. --Robert Horton
Description
Soldier Joe Allen is on a two-day leave in New York, and there he meets Alice. She agrees to show him the sights and they spend the day together. In this short time they find themselves falling in love with each other, and they decide to get married before Joe has to return to camp.
Customer Reviews:
The Clock.......2007-06-25
Minnelli's sentimental, spirited and touching wartime romance was a small picture by MGM standards, but Garland's star power and the backdrop of bustling Manhattan (actually Hollywood sound stages) give the picture a dynamic, worldly feel. Walker is likable as the earnest hayseed, and doe-eyed Garland is grand as ever without once singing a tune. (Minnelli, of course, married Judy as soon as the film wrapped!) Great support work from James and Lucille Gleason as a milkman and wife round out this sweet film about love on a very tight schedule.
Not as wonderful as I'd hoped........2007-05-30
This movie, only now out on DVD, does not impress me as a classic. It's slow. The writing is adequate. The characters are not that engaging. It's not baaad. It's just nothing to write home about.
A Perfect Classic Film by the great Minnelli.......2007-05-01
I thought I had seen all of Vincente Minnelli's greatest films, well, I was so wrong... 'The Clock' is truly comparable to his great 'Meet Me in St. Louis', 'Gigi', 'The Band Wagon'... He has so many great classics, but I believe this one may be his third best.
As it starts you don't expect anything great: an aerial view of New York, Central Station, lots of people going on their daily routines... it goes increscendo though. And how! This is the romantic story of a young soldier (Robert Walker) in 1945 who has a couple of free days to spend in NYC before returning to serve in the Army (probably to go to England). He's never been in the big city before but he will meet a girl (Judy Garland) who will show him around. Love is in the making meanwhile, but there's only 2 days to spend. What can happen in two days? Well, that's exactly what they both are thinking too, while watching at the "clock" to see how much time is left for them together (more rapport between the characters and the viewers is hardly possible).
I say this film is perfect because it looks so simple, its story, its characters... it must be really difficult to tell when there's not that much plot going on. But the viewer gets so involved with these young couple that he won't have time to blink. I mean, every second of film is purposeful, meaningful, and beautiful. You can't do more with less. That's why Minnelli is one of the greatest American directors, comparable to Ford, Hawks, Vidor... Personally, it took me some minutes to forget Robert Walker's role in 'Strangers on a train', which left an indelible impression on me. He wouldn't be my first choice at all for this role, but he is fine. A must see classic.
The Clock.......2007-04-08
They just don't make movies like this any more. I enjoyed it and the fact that Judy did not sing in the movie reinforces the nature of the love story. In other words you are not put aside listening to music instead of concentrating on the love between two people. If you never saw this movie, you do not know what you are missing.
The Clock - Great Movie.......2007-04-04
This is a great movie for any JudyGarland fan out there. I was happy to add this one to my collection!

Kirk Alyn sets the herioc standard for generations to come, portraying Superman in these multichapter cliffhanger adventures that kept Saturday matinee crowds coming back for more. The 15-chapter Superman (1948) spans our hero's first arrival on Earth to his alter-ego role as reporter Clark Kent through his battle with sinister Spider Lady. Nostalgic Pleasure.......2007-05-13
I am 78 years old, but rememeber well the Saturday Matinee at my local movie theatre. Two feature films, a newsreel, a cartoon and, of course, a Chapter from whatever serial was playing at the time.
Superman - The 1948 & 1950 Theatrical Serial Collection was two of those serials and like most of them, was so bad it was good. Kids today will never know the exciting anticipation of having to wait a whole week before we could know how the hero was going to solve this week's cliffhanger. My only concern with these two serials was that Jimmy Olsen was going to have brain damage from being punched out so many times.
They're So Bad They're Good.......2007-05-12
I've always been interested in the movie serials of the 40's & 50's. They are usually so bad that they are good. They're shot on a low budget, the acting won't win any Oscars, the special effects are laughable!
That being said, I had a good time with the Superman serials. Kirk Alyn is OK as Clark Kent/Superman. The strange part about Clark Kent is that sometimes it appears he loses his powers when he's Clark. He can be beaten and knocked out. Other times he has his powers. Noel Neil is Lois Lane, the reporter who always finds herself in a predicament and must be rescued by Superman. I doubt a real reporter would purposely put him/herself in such situations. Poor Tommy Bond. As Jimmy Olsen, his only purpose is to get beaten up easily several times.
The special effects, well they don't exist! When Superman flies he becomes a cartoon.
But I still got a kick out of it. Two serials are included; "Superman" and battles the Spider Lady, and "Atom Man vs. Superman". Atom Man is the best of the two. This one introduces Luthor. I believe The actor playing Luthor is the same actor who portrayed Batman in the Batman & Robin serials.
Just kick back and laugh. As I said, they're so bad that they're good!
Superman - The 1948 & 1950 Theatrical Serials Collection.......2007-05-06
A fun must have for your collection
Saturday Morning Serial.......2007-04-17
Look Up in the Sky, Its a Bird..Its a Plane...NO, Its SUPERMAN
Before the TV show, Superman was brought to life in the Saturday Morning Serial. Here on 4 DVDS in the 1948 & 1950 serial (Superman & Atom men vs Superman).
The serials were 12-15 15 episodes which ran weekly with a movie. These short mini movies always left a character or Charater in a cliffhanger situation of life or death, which always they escaped in the next episode.
These two serials are a throwback to an easier time. with over the top villians like the Spider-Lady.
I remember was a was a kid at the Melba theater in Bronx, New York. They ran kiddy days, with a Disney or Disney like movie (Zebra in the Kitchen, A Tiger Walks, Circus World), with cartoons and serial episodes. AS I watch these episodes I was seven again and had the same thriill I had then
So if you want to see the originial SUPERMAN, this collection is the one to get

Amazon.com essential video
Rock Hudson and Doris Day had one of the sweetest chemistries in the movies--as demonstrated in several light comedies, including this film's predecessor, 1959's Pillow Talk. The two similar films feature a handsome, duplicitous Hudson duping--then falling for--an earnest Day. In Lover Come Back, the two play Jerry Webster and Carol Templeton, rival advertising agents, vying for the same clients--until Jerry makes up a product, Vip, to get out of a scrape. As Madison Avenue catches Vip fever, Jerry falls deeper into the façade-and into love with Carol, who schemes to steal the nonexistent account away from him. Tony Randall plays Peter Ramsay, Webster's hapless boss. While Day and Hudson are as adorable as ever (and would continue to be in 1964's Send Me No Flowers), a standout is fellow Pillow Talk and Send Me No Flowers costar Randall. He's an effective foil--both comically and physically (as he stands next to the much taller Hudson). Their brands of humor blend charmingly: Hudson's sardonic coyness, Day's innocent sweetness, and Randall's nervous edginess. Look for a pre-Brady Bunch Ann B. Davis as Mille, Carol's loyal assistant, and a pre-Beverly Hillbillies Donna Douglas as Ramsay's secretary. --N.F. Mendoza
Description
Rock Hudson and Doris Day are together again! Jerry Webster (Hudson) and Carol Templeton (Day) are rival Madison Avenue advertising executives who each dislike each other's methods. After he steals a client out from under her cute little nose, revenge prompts her to infiltrate his secret "VIP" campaign in order to persuade the mystery product's scientist to switch to her firm. Trouble is, the product is phony and the "scientist" is Jerry, who uses all his intelligence and charm to steal her heart in this outrageous comedy of mistaken identity, co-starring the ever-delightful Tony Randall.
Customer Reviews:
Lover Come Back.......2007-06-28
Delbert Mann's follow-up to Hudson-Day's first hit "Pillow Talk" is less well-known, but every bit as good. Rock in particular shines in two separate characterizations, and Randall's elevator scene must be seen to be believed. Fast and sharp, with a vibrant early sixties look and feel, "Lover" will keep you coming back. Hooray for Vip!
"He's the last guy I would have figured...".......2007-05-20
Doris Day-Rock Hudson romcom Lover Come Back reworks aspects of Pillow Talk in a plot that sees them as rival advertising execs fighting over the account for a non-existent product in a surprisingly and engagingly smutty satire that goes out of its way to mock the void between the two stars screen images and reality. Rock Hudson seems heroically determined to invite rumors by pretending to be unsure of his sexuality ("Just because you can light a stove doesn't mean you can cook") and even creeping back into his apartment wearing nothing more than a woman's fur coat ("He's the last guy I would have figured..." notes one onlooker) while a somewhat sidelined Doris Day gets married as she's rushed into the delivery room. Along the way Tony Randall practically invents both of the Crane brothers and sets up about three seasons worth of plots for Frasier as his neurotic boss. Great fun.
A lovely Day film.......2007-01-22
At times this movie can be a little racie for people over the age of 70 or people who like movies less rated than G. But for the rest of us it's more tamed then most movies now. It's a good Doris Day film. It's funny, and has a happy ending. The story line is pretty much the same as pillow talk. Mistaken identity, Hudson's character taken advantage of the sistuation, boy meets girl, girl hates boy, girl loves boy, then hates him again, then loves each other in the end. A wonderful game, this is worth the cash.
Treasure From The 60's Vault...........2006-10-20
Is there anything more American then apple pie, baseball or a good Rock Hudson/Doris Day Film? It's always been such a treat to curl up with them and the third essential player, Tony Randall. Rock is always doing something to infuriate Doris. He's her worst nightmare. And what's more, he pretends to be someone else that Doris falls for head over heals until the gig is up. Then she's out for revenge, but love always wins out. Ahhhh such feel good, laugh out loud stuff.
So in this one from 1961 "Lover Come Back", Madison Ave is the setting. Advertising is the game of Carol Templeton and rival Jerry Webster. But Jerry is such a cad and a playboy. He steals big clients right from under her by wining and dining them, throwing raucous parties and getting the girl for them. Carol on the other hand, does things a little different. She's virtuous and business like. When he trumps her cards once too often, she plans to get a little underhanded herself. Trying to win over the scientist that is going to invent a new product for our guy Rock, Doris, who has never met Webster(as is always the case), mistakes him for...you guessed it..the shy, retiring, needy nerdy scientist. Jerry, in true form goes along with it, and tries to woo Carol into his bed. And the fun continues...
