Rappers Pras and Ja Rule star as Diamond and Gage, drug-dealing buddies on the mean streets of New York, in this energetic but hopelessly muddled hip-hop crime thriller. You've seen it all before: the childhood street pals hit the crisis point when Diamond wants to go straight and hot-headed Gage aspires to become the baddest gangsta on the block. Ja Rule plays the loose cannon bad boy Gage with pent-up anger and a bullying sneer, a firecracker next to burnt-out match Pras, whose commitment-shy suffering artist has a sleepy, withdrawn blandness until he's out on the streets. "I can't guarantee I'll be there for you," Diamond lamely sputters to his pregnant girlfriend before heading back out for a night of music and gunplay, coming to life with two-fisted ferocity as he coolly empties clip after clip into rival gangs. Director-screenwriter Robert Adetuyi never worries about reconciling the two sides of Diamond, and the contradictory clichés about loyalty and responsibility are delivered without a trace of irony. The John Woo-inspired action scenes are the highlights of the film, flashy, high-energy explosions of excitement that reveal Diamond as a cool-headed, criminally sharp gangster at heart. He just doesn't know it, and the film is too embarrassed to admit it. This glib, sense-numbing action fantasy coasts on the energy of the action and the music while having it both ways: violence without personal consequences and decisions without repercussions. --Sean Axmaker

Turn it up.......2004-04-20
All in all a respectable movie. Obviously no urban movies are gunna be winning awards but if given the proper amount of showing to audiences this movie could rate up there with the best urban movies. Ja rule's acting is amazing for a freshman appearence and pras hits the sympathetic actor alrite. I give it about 7.5/10 on my scale and would highly suggest watching it to any fan of hip hop. The soundtrack to go with it/songs preformed within the movie by ja rule and pras are also very good.

It was pure [baloney], but I kinda liked it..........2002-04-08
The plot was tired, but the acting was ok especially Ja Rule who seemed a natural to his role. Not a bad first outing Ja.
Pras co-produced and I think he should stick to doing that. His character just seemed too disinterested, or perhaps it was just Pras.
Props to Robert Adetuyi for writing and directing - Jolly good show mah men, but did the editing kill the flow?
Keep up the work guys, hey everyone's a critic...
Good God! What is this ...? Needs a zero star!.......2002-03-25
I gave it a chance and not suprisingly I was thoroughly sickened. This is one of the latest in a crop of Hip Hop crime dramas featuring the same horrible rappers that fuel the ... soundtracks in the acting roles. This movie left a foul taste in my mouth and quite a headache. This is further proof that Rap is ruining all forms of entertainment. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this incorrigible trash. Word Yo!

Good crime/mafia film.......2007-06-22
I enjoyed this movie and the casting is great. It is about the conflicts between the mafia and American Italian policeman that were born and raised in the same neighborhoods. The leading female role played by Mia Sara is the wife to "Joey" the police officer in the film. I think there are 1-2 actors from the HBO Sopranos in this film too. This film was made before the Sopranos became a big hit. I recommend this film.
as always A.......2006-02-06
Considering Andrea is Lou's daughter she is giving a biased opinion. Considering who appeared in the movie, it was still lousy.
Not just another gangland film.......2005-02-15
This is not just another gangland film. Writer Lou Eppolito's experience with both law enforcement and the mafia provides this film with realistic, true to life dialogue often missed by others of the same genre. The acting and editing, while tense at time, still allow for surprises and climactic build up as the reality of the players comes to conclusion....
A necessary pick for anyone collecting mob flicks.
BOOM BOOM.......2004-07-09
Former boxer Ray Mancini not only stars in this "Sopranos" like drama, but he also produced it, making sure I guess he got the starring role. At any rate, TURN OF FAITH solidifies the sad state our society has evolved to, in that we want to glamorize and sanitize gangsters.
Mancini plays Joey, one of three friends who grew up together; one of his friends is a priest and the other is a hitman for the local mafia. The plot revolves around the doings of Philly, overplayed but convincingly so, by the durable Charles Durning. He controls the union, and with an upcoming election, wants to make sure he continues to do so. The new union wannabe (played by Tom Atkins "Fog" "Halloween III") is ahead in the polls so it looks like Durning and his thugs have work to do. This includes taking on Joey's friend Bobby (played by a chunky Costas Mandylor) to do his dirty work. Mia Sara as Joey's wife and Alan Gelfant as priest Frankie, round out the cast.
All the usual cliches play themselves out; when Bobby kills Atkins and his henchman, the law is out for Bobby.
Here's where the SOPRANOS influence hits hard: Bobby has coldbloodedly killed two men, and yet, the audience is supposed to sympathize with him and write this off? The inevitable happens and Durning faces his three foes in a somewhat incredible climax.
So, why three stars? It's gripping, if derivative; and the acting is way above the level of its script. But, face it folks, bad guys are bad guys, and Hollywood needs to stop elevating them to sainthood.
A Real Sleeper.......2004-02-06
Don't miss this one. If you like a good thriller and drama that leaves you satisfied this is the one. Well cast with Ray Mancini in the lead and Charles Durning in a terrific character role that's right up his alley. It was good to see Tom Atkins again whom I remembered from "The Fog". And of course there's Tony Sirico. If ever there was an actor born to be the heavy and tough guy it's Tony. Watch Mia Sara as Joey's wife; a surprise you won't expect. The plotline and dialogue are excellent. You won't have to think why this happrned or why this was said. It flows very smoothly. All in all, I recommend this film with pleasure. Don't miss it.
