Filmed on location in Utah, One Little Indian is a leisurely paced Western adventure for children and families. This sets it apart from many of those that preceded it in the '70s--and appear to have served as influences--like Little Big Man (1970) and Jeremiah Johnson (1972). There is less violence and, as in many Disney productions, animal sidekicks are a big part of the action; in this case, an ornery camel named Rosie and her calf, Thirsty. James Garner plays Keyes, a deserter from the U.S. Cavalry, who "borrows" the camels while making his escape. Shortly afterwards, he meets Mark (Clay O'Brien), a white boy raised by Indians upon the death of his parents. He too slipped away from the cavalry after they rounded up his adopted family for relocation. He joins Keyes for a trip to Mexico. Along the way, they encounter widow Doris McIver (Vera Miles) and daughter Martha (Jodie Foster). All the while, the cavalry is hot on their trail. Bernard McEveety directed episodes of a number of TV Westerns from the '50s through the '70s. These included Gunsmoke, which featured appearances by Miles (a favorite of John Ford) and Foster. He would later direct Garner in his best-known series, The Rockford Files, the following year. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

GREATEST HITS-VOLUMEN 1993-2003 THE ARCHIVE DVD SERIES (BJORK)

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The music videos are great.......2007-03-25

These music videos are very artistic and intrinsic. The CD is much better when you have seen the videos. I really like the emotion of the songs that you can understand after watching the movies.

5 out of 5 stars Perfecto!.......2007-03-20

This is an excellent introduction to Bjork's World. Every song stands on it's own, but also flows so logically to the next. I plan on buying this for several friends!

5 out of 5 stars Perfect.......2006-12-03

Bjork is truly a genius musically and also visually. She's amazingly fulfilling as an artist. She's a brave and courageous woman (when you see the videos, if you haven't already, you'll know why)who has a very unique vision and is totally uninhibited about presenting it. You have all her videos before Medulla (her latest album) in brilliant sound and image quality. Of course we would love audio commemnts and a documentary about her videos and how she brought them to life, but as an artist who rarely speaks in her live performances she totally communicates to us through her very personnal and astonishing musical and visual universe. You don't need words, just to immerse yourself in abandonement in her work. And that'll be more rewarding than you'll ever know.

4 out of 5 stars Stellar videos get a rather lackluster presentation.......2006-05-22

I can't think of another musical artist that has really explored the potential that video artistry can provide. Other artists may have an even greater output (Madonna, Michael Jackson), but most of their videos don't really lend themselves to viewing multiple times (not to mention their music isn't as interesting either). Even artists that are more interesting musically (i.e. New Order, Depeche Mode) only occassionally put out a really good video. This is about the only video compilation that I'd watch from beginning to end without interruption. Mind you, not everyone will like every video. There's a wide range of styles, from an artificial (Jacque Demy influenced) musical dance number to a cartoon to CGI enhanced sci-fi. I won't go into the details of the individual videos, since many already have. I will, however, comment about my big gripe about this dvd: the quality of the presentation. The sound is actually very good, with stereo for all tracks or the option for 5.1 on those tracks that had originally been mastered in that format (Vespertine era). The big problem for me is that the dvd is mastered for full screen TVs. When you select the "Play all" option, it looks like a VHS tape. Image quality is nowhere where it should be. To add to that more than half of the videos are actually widescreen, so you have the black bars on the screen of your screen & bars (sometimes actually a darkish gray color) across the top, cutting down the resolution significantly (about 1/2 of my screen is wasted by the letterboxing). Because of this, I suspect the DVD was mastered from a VHS tape, though the quality is much better than many such tape transfers, so I can't be sure. The other disappointment is that the menus/extras presentation is rather poor, much more could have been done with this, hence I deducted a star from what should have been a 5 star release.

ROYAL OPERA HOUSE-THE LIVE DVD SERIES (BJORK)

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The Mad-Pixie Musical Genius of Bjork!.......2006-01-24

This concert gets better -- impossibly better, more beautiful and interesting -- with repeated watchings, and it takes repeated watchings to capture both the gestalt and the little details that make this such a phenomenal and interesting performance.

Bjork is a maverick. She is defiantly self-defined, listening to no one's idea of who she ought to be or what she ought to sound like, and as a result she's created an entirely new paradigm of what a modern day performer can do and be and become. How she ever ended up on the 2006 slate of Brit Award nominees alongside Kelly Clarkson, Madonna and Mariah Carey is a wonder -- but she leaves those ladies in the dust. They are all cut from roughly the same cloth, but Bjork -- a true artist, not just a performer mimicking tried and true ideas of what will sell records and play well in videos -- is defiantly and out-loud an original.

Her ebullient, expansive, joyful, expressive and extraordinary voice threads through this set of songs like a shooting star, leaving a comet tail of magic in its wake. She is like a child on the stage, moving instinctly in time with the beat of her own music, the ticking of her own particular heart and brain and mind. The music is sometimes so unearthly it may well be built on a tonal scale from another planet -- or from heaven itself -- but drop your expectations of what music "should" sound like and this oceanic performance will effervesce in your head like a sublime, simmering broth of seltzer and starlight.

Fizz, fizz, fizz ... wonderful. What a relief it is from the ordinary!

5 out of 5 stars WOW!.......2005-12-22

I tend to write reviews with a lot more length but there is not much to be said about this DVD of Bjork's live performace in London. It is my favorite music DVD I own and I have watched it again and again with my eyes glued to the TV. All I can say is WOW. If you're a Bjork fan, there is no possible way you can be dissapointed by this DVD. Its is pure sonic musical energy with a feast for the eyes. The set is very long and the extras introduce to you the making of Vespertine and the performers on the tour with interviews. I love this! WOW!

5 out of 5 stars Unbelievable experience..........2005-07-12

This is one of the many DVD's that have been released recently covering the different performances Bjork has had for every one of her albums. Among those this beautiful piece of music can be found. As a part of the `Vespertine' tour Bjork performed at the Royal Opera house. Accompanying Bjork we have Matmos performing the beats, Simon Lee with the orchestra, Zeena Parkins in the harp and `Inuit choir' (a choir specially formed for this tour)

The concert opens with two instrumental pieces, the first one is `Frosti', from the very beginning we get to see that the show we are about to witness will be breathtaking not only musically but visually, the first image of Bjork sitting and playing with the music box is unbelievable and full of beauty. Then we have `Overture' from the film `Dancer in the dark' to open and lead to the first of 17 pieces of the DVD performed by the swan princess.

Following up the idea of `Vespertine' it is not a surprise to see the musicians performing with cards, beats and noises made on the floor among some others. The intimacy of the album can be felt in this live performance.

Many of her classic are here, `All is full of love', `Hidden place', `Unison', `Possibly maybe', `Hyperballad', `Human Behaviour' and `Joga'. All of them performed live with a superb sound quality, most of the songs presented are calm themes such as `Cocoon' and the previously mentioned, it seems as if she had chosen the songs from her previous albums that could fit in the concept of `Vespertine', the results of the selection is one of the best concert she has given ever.

The arrangements made for this concert are awesome and the 5.1 mix does justice to the performance of the artists involved. The musicians, the choir and the artist all together make of this concert an unbelievable experience. The quality of the image is fair enough (it could have been better) and presented on widescreen format. Even though the extras are nothing special, the concert by itself is more than enough reason to have this item among anyone's music collection.

5 out of 5 stars A Gorgeous, Beautiful And Lush Concert.......2005-05-08

As a huge Bjork fan, I am determined to buy as much material by her as I possibly can. I've bought pretty much all her albums, so the next step is to move onto the many DVD's she has released. I bought "Volumen II" around six weeks ago on the same day that I bought "Bjork: Live At The Royal Opera House." This concert DVD focuses on Bjork's 2001 Vespertine Tour, and it is absolutely beautiful. Vespertine is easily my favourite Bjork album, so to have a live concert of it with many other songs is such a special gift. Bjork wanted to tour this tour in opera houses throughout the world instead of arenas, because the music being performed in this tour is very much intimate and gentle, and not really meant for large areas.

On this tour Bjork enlisted the help of many great musicians to play her music. These include the brilliant American harpist Zeena Parkins, British orchestra conductor Simon Lee, the female Inuit Choir from Greenland and the crazy duo Drew Daniel and Martin Schmidt aka Matmos. This collection of musicians take the original framework of Bjork's music from Vespertine and alter it ever so slightly for a concert format. When sung live, things are more open and intricate, like you can hear everything that was meant to be on the original songs. Bjork's voice is incredible throughout this concert, and it works beautifully as a relaxing instrument on its own.

The concert opens with "Frosti," which is a short music box introduction to the concert. The curtains open and Bjork works the music box so gently. She wears a gorgeous white dress and fabulous white boots to match the mood of the music. This is then followed by "Overture" from Selmasongs, which is a beautiful orchestral piece, conducted by Simon Lee. "All Is Full Of Love" is the first song in which Bjork sings in this concert, and it is a great performance. Matmos really maximise their talent and improve the beat on the original video remix. "Aurora" is an amazing song in itself, and to hear it here live is such a beautiful experience. Zeena on the harp is particularly brilliant, and this works very well with Bjork's vocals, which are sharp and cutting on this song. "Undo" is one of the most beautiful performances on this tour, because it opens so gently and subtly. I love this song and the final minute is so beautiful. All the instruments are reduced so Bjork's voice can stand on its own. "Generous Palmstroke" is the beautiful song in which Bjork and Zeena join forces to make their little duet. The harp is most prominent on this song than any other in the tour, and Bjork's vocals are strong as ever.

"An Echo, A Stain" is easily one of my favourite Bjork songs ever. I just love the album version of this song, but the concert version wasn't a favourite of mine. What I like most about this song is how quiet and relaxing it is, and this live version is harder and more defined because of the electronics Matmos use. I have, however, grown to love this version because everything is broken down and picked apart, especially towards the climax of the song. "Hidden Place" is another one of my favourite Bjork songs, and this live version is great. The choir are strong on this song, as are Matmos who shuffle a pack of cards into the microphone, showing their creative talents! "Cocoon" is one of the most intimate songs I've ever heard in my life, and this live version is amazing. Bjork's voice is so beautiful here, especially as she sings, "A train of pearls!" The choir isn't needed on this song because it's just Bjork and nothing else. "Unison" closed the Vespertine album, and it closes the first half of this concert. Matmos use some interesting sounds on this live version which is much different to the original. A great finale to this softer half of the concert.

After a short break, Bjork returns with a costume change into a large red dress looking stunning as usual. "Harm Of Will" opens the second half of the concert, which is another great performance. This is not much different to the album version but this doesn't matter because it's such a perfect song, why would you want to mess with the formula? "It's Not Up To You" is an amazing song because of the choir, and they play a big part in this live version as well. "Pagan Poetry" is a great live performance because Matmos use their electronics to the full. Bjork's vocals are strong as well, working in harmony with the choir and the harp. "Possibly Maybe" is reworked using Matmos and their creative flair. This song is one of the oldest from the tour, and it's nice to see Bjork go back to those mid-Nineties days. This live version is slowed down more than the original to fit in with the Vespertine theme of the tour.

"Isobel" is an epic, beautiful piece that is broken down so that all the individual piece of what make this song so great can be heard. The violins from the orchestra work amazingly well here and the song is drawn out to around seven minutes long. "Hyperballad" is a stunning song and the introduction to it is very beautiful because there's a sense of anticipation created for what is to come. "Human Behaviour" is probably the most upbeat song on this tour and one of the very few where Bjork actually dances! It's nice to add some upbeat material towards the end of the concert, and this being one of Bjork's most popular songs receives a glowing reception from the audience. "Joga" is slowed down to emphasise Bjork's gorgeous voice. The orchestra is very dark and ominous creating a spooky feeling. At the end of the song Bjork introduces her musicians to the audience, and they receive a rapturous response. The concert closes with the amazing "It's In Our Hands," which is an amazing live version that I prefer over the original. The clapping after the first chorus is great, and the loud revving noises that remind me of an aeroplane taking off is very powerful! A great closing to such a stunning concert.

OVERALL GRADE: 10/10

Every single song on this DVD is amazing because the level of quality is so high and consistent throughout. You can tell that Bjork spent a long time thinking about this tour, and because of this it is definitely her best tour to date. I would love to see her live at some point in my life, because it would be a dream come true. This DVD also features a great interview section from Bjork herself, Matmos, Zeena, and the choir. It's very interesting to watch these interviews about how the tour came about, and also the making of the album. Bjork is a beautiful creature and her music is stellar to anything I've ever heard. This DVD is essential for all Bjork fans, because you find something new every time you watch it.

5 out of 5 stars Cute and enchanting with unbelievable vocal talent. .......2005-03-10

Sound quality is very well recorded for not being DTS. Bjork has always been a little strange to me but her extreme vocal capabilties keeps me admiring her music. Her music and vocal talent truly shows in this concert DVD.

INSIDE BJORK (BJORK)

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!.......2006-11-04

This is the most (only?) comprehensive video I've seen of Bjork where she actually comments on her music and life. Very interesting! Stories behind all the songs and videos. Her views on just about everything. A MUST HAVE for any Bjork fan! Besides, she's so damn hot! :)

5 out of 5 stars Inside The Mastermind Of Björk.......2005-12-22

Of all the Bjork DVD's I own, I find "Inside Bjork" to be one of the most endearing. I love documentaries that go through all the facts and figures about a particular artists' career, and this one is no exception. My only complaint is that it is a little too short, but I suppose you get what you pay for and it's better than nothing! A lot of the work Bjork puts out is incredibly art-based, leading me to raise the question of whether something is a piece of art from her perspective (and the reaction she is intending to receive from her audience) or whether it is simply just a piece of work. For example, this DVD is quite expensive, and features no bonus material, and is less than an hour in length. Is this a statement? Who knows, but I think it's interesting to ponder over such a question.

The DVD begins with Introduction, which is a few minutes where we overlook Bjork's entire career very briefly through narration. Included are video and concert clips, along with comments from stars such as Elton John, Thom Yorke and Missy Elliott about how amazing she is. This takes us onto the Iceberg Lagoon section which features some beautiful imagery of Iceland where Bjork grew up. Again, this leads onto Reykjavik Childhood, a section which aims to detail Bjork's beautiful childhood, surrounded by the elementary forces of nature in Iceland. The Punk & Surrealism section takes us into her teen years where she became interested in punk music which eventually led to the formation of The Sugarcubes, who would actually go on to become an internationally successful punk band in the Eighties. There is particular focus on the song "Birthday," and just how unique it was, and still is. Song Stories And Sonic Experiments takes us into the era when Bjork had left the band, and was wanting t make it big on her own as a solo artist in the early Nineties.

From then on we are taken through Images, Beats and Nature, three sections that explore Bjork's music as a solo artist, her most famous work still to this day throughout the Nineties, when she became an internationally-famous superstar and sold millions of copies of her first three albums "Debut," "Post" and "Homogenic." These sections are probably the most interesting and enjoyable because it is the era of Bjork's career that we all became interested in to begin with: it is because of the music from these albums that we became such devoted fans, and therefore purchased this DVD! What's also stunning to realise is just how much pure artistic vision went into the creation of these albums, especially when you hear Bjork describing the story of "Isobel" around 20 minutes into the DVD. The information that we are given on Bjork's tours is also very interesting, but all the footage is available on the DVD's that you can buy, which are the full concert shows from her four tours for each of her first four solo studio albums.

Classical Influences is another great section which aims to explore the elements of classical music that have influenced Bjork throughout her career, most evident on the album Homogenic. I find this to be quite irritating, however, because classical music is a genius conception that Bjork incorporated, genius-like, into her music. It's almost impossible to decipher anything about the companion of classical music and the electronic beats in songs like "Joga" and "Bachelorette." The Musicals section explores her work in the 2000 film Dancer In The Dark, whereas the Microbeats section looks at her work on 2001's epic masterpiece "Vespertine," her fourth solo album. It's interesting to see how the music was created for this album with Matmos and Zeena Parkins. Also, the tour that accompanied the album was arguably her best and is explored here well. Arctic Passion is the last section of the DVD and looks at Bjork's position in the industry, along with a superb live performance of "Generous Palmstroke" with Zeena on harp.

This DVD is really essential in any Bjork fan's collection, even though it was shown on British television around four years ago. It might be a bit expensive, as are all Bjork's DVD's (she gotta get her income from somewhere, guys!), but I think it's really worth it. You get almost fifty minutes of interviews, pictures, video and concert clips, and never-before-seen images of Bjork as a child. I don't think it will take much for a true Bjork fan to buy this DVD, but if you're pondering whether or not to buy it, then trust me, this is something you don't want to miss!

5 out of 5 stars Inside and Out Bjork.......2005-10-25

I usually skip all these biographical documentaries and hagiographies, but this one is very interesting. One of the reasons I got it was because it promised to discuss the influence of classical music on Bjork's music, but this DVD delivers a lot more than this.
Bjork is a very intelligent and serious interviewee, though she can be mercilessly funny too, and her comments help put many of her songs, albums and artistic decisions into focus. Yes, she discusses her troubled relationship with Western classical music, and how we need to make sure the children can be exposed to it in a good way, my feelings exactly. Being a classically trained but long drifted soul myself, I really liked hearing about how she found her way out and made peace with Shostakovich. She blows many of acclaimed composers out of the water in any case, but she is aware of her roots. Speaking of roots, if you want to hear her talk about many things Nordic, including mythology, and see some amazing Icelandic landscapes, then there's plenty of that on this DVD as well.
The whole thing was filmed roughly around the time Vespertine was released, and it will also give you a good overview of her career until that point and put certain decisions into perspective, but that's not to suggest that this video is just relentlessly dishing out the facts and (often fascinating) video footage, including rare early days, punky Bjork. It makes sense as a coherent whole and I found it to be very absorbing, also upon repeated viewings.
A whole army of Bjork's friends, supporters, collaborators and co-conspirators show up to offer their words of wisdom; my favourites are Missy Elliot, a funky genius herself, talking about Bjork and Mozart (pronounced Mozz-ahrt) and Elton John, fuming about the crtitical drabbing that fabulous swan dress took.
The final moment of this movie is Bjork, accompanying herself on a little church organ and singing Generous Palmstroke. Great finish to a wonderful trip Inside Bjork.

4 out of 5 stars missy elliot?.......2005-07-14

I normally find it a bit lame and pointless to sit and watch documentaries on contemporary artist/musicians, since they're usually just people saying, "this person's so great because of this or that" or "he/she was so innovative and ahead of their time" ... just generally giving way too much credit to the person they're talking about. But, i decided to give this Bjork documentary a whirl since she truly is a wonderfully talented and unique artist and incase this dvd has any real insight into her working methods, i'd be interested in seeing that (being a musician myself).

Along with alot of information on her musical upbringing and the development of her vocal style, the film really provides alot of first-hand analyzation of her work and her general outlook on music and life. Naturally, Bjork's interview segments are always interesting (some of which are done from a floating raft among the glaciers of her home country).

My only beef with the dvd is the excess of lame interview segments with people that have nothing to do with her. I mean, Missy Elliot? C'mon. Thankfully her comments are kept short and seldom, as they are about as informed as one would expect them to be ("it's like, she took these hip hop beats and... added orchestra stuff on top, so it was like... Mozart at a rap show")
Oh brother...
That said, i should point out that most of the comments made arent just a waste of time and really do say something.

On the whole i say, for sure, pick it up.

3 out of 5 stars Quality equivalent to the price.......2005-02-27

The interviews with Bjork and the beautiful shots of Iceland make this well worth the watch, but I didn't care for the excessive celebrity commentary this is padded with. I don't give a flip about the opinions of Elton John, Tricky, Sean Penn and others. Bjork doesn't need to fill a DVD about herself with shallow pop figures just to lend validity to her appeal.

First, you have to love the "cover art" review. Great summary of the music, dude. I expect this guy has no idea who the Twilight Singers are, much less Greg Dulli or his tradition of performing covers. Likewise, I'm sure this went straight over "Tomer Cooper's" head.

Second, this is a great DVD. Any TS/Dulli singer shouldn't hesitate to buy it. Present are the characteristic Dulli charisma and rockin' good tunes you'd expect, but captured live each song takes on new life. It's just a damned good show put on by damned fine musicians. I love watching these guys work.

The audio quality isn't great but it suffices. It's live. If you've heard live performances before, you know the deal. Not great, but not bad. And two minutes in you'll forget it altogether.

Buy it, you won't regret it.

1 out of 5 stars Is The DVD Cover Familiar To You?.......2006-06-20

This is a pure Rip-Off from the cover of Aerosmith's Live Bootleg album from 1978...Where's the shame? Too bad Twilight are not original enough to come up with their own cover.

In another words, this DVD is pretty suck and the originality here is nowhere to be found...Especially on the cover art that they stole from a much bigger band.

5 out of 5 stars Something Hot!.......2006-03-26

This video is just what the title implies. A live bootlegged performance. There's no deceitful post production trickery happening here. No studio overdubs, or cut and paste song arrangement. This is a fan produced video. You see and hear it just as it happenned. The sound is recorded from the camera mics and the stage is dimly lit. Don't expect gorgeously mixed soundstage like audio and video. And for those very reasons, not in spite of, this is a wonderful acquisition. The band is on top of their game, Dulli is in typical macho overdrive, and the setlist is plump and complete coming in at just under two hours. Not to mention Marcy Mays popping in for a re-set of The Afghan Whigs classic My Curse with former Whigs members for a faux reunion.

Simply a great documentation of a great night of rock n roll.

Fennessy

    Description

Clint Keys (James Garner) is a hunted man. On the run from the Cavalry, where he faces a hangman's noose for mutiny and desertion charges, he makes a frantic attempt to fade into the vast desert countryside. His conspicuous companions? "Rosie," an ill-tempered camel, her offspring, and a 10-year-old runaway boy (Clay O'Brien). Additional complications arise when they encounter a pioneering widow (Vera Miles) and her young daughter (Jodie Foster) who must choose between aiding the unlikely fugitives -- or hampering their desperate flight.

3 out of 5 stars Cute for Kids - But Is It About an Indian??.......2006-12-01

You have to start this with one thing in mind - this is a Disney film. That means you have a very white washed, comedic view of what is happening. In essence this is a "family gathering up" story, involving a guy and his "son", meeting up with a lady and her daughter. Cute romance is sure to follow.

First, the guy and son. James Garner is Keyes, who deserted from the army - but of course it was for a noble cause. He quickly runs into Mark, a kid who at first glance *looks* like an Indian, but of course he isn't. He was a white boy captured by the Cheyenne natives, who is now free again. The two have a mother-daughter pair of camels who are adoringly ornery.

Off they go in the Utah desert, worrying about both Indians and the army. There are typical hijinks and horseplay as they go. They soon run into a gorgeous blonde lady and her equally gorgeous blonde daughter. Keyes falls for the lady. Mark thinks the girl has cooties.

Of course, in true Disney fashion, everything works out lovely for all involved, with a few spots of age-appropriate minor sadness.

This is a super movie for young tykes, with pretty much zero swearing, violence, or other nastiness that has infiltrated modern media. However, from the point of view of this involving "one little indian" - they could have done *Far* better. Why not have had the child actually BE an Indian? Why not show more about native american culture? Really, this is more about "The Brady Bunch in the Old West" - certainly a casual, fun romp - but not involving Indians at all.

4 out of 5 stars Support Your Local Camel Jockey.......2006-05-19

One Little Indian is a late entry from the Golden Age of Walt Disney, but it's an engaging and enjoyable film. James Garner was in a transitional period here, dabbling with TV and high-grade B-movies like Those Daring Dobermans. He's just as charming as ever, which seems out of place since he IS a deserter. However, as the script is a timely one, his only "crime" was disrupting a massacre of a peaceful Indian camp. So perhaps for the only time in history, we have Viet Nam, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, and Jodie Foster coinciding in spacetime.

Several things make this a good movie. An early tip off to the quality is a first-rate Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack. Next, and most important, Clay O'brien is a very appealing child actor. Add Jodie Foster to the young'un cast and you've got a nice set of kids. Not only that, but the supporting cast is loaded with familiar faces if you're a Western fan. The only shortcoming is there are too few scenes with Vera Miles. I wish the interlude between her and Mr. Garner had lasted longer. In breaking with current tradition, Andrew Prine plays a clergyman who is honest, sympathetic, and Godly. Hollywood hasn't heard of anything like that in decades! And as for the camel(s), it is not just a gimmick, but is really relevant to the plotline. I suppose if the camel had belched or farted, the movie would appeal more to kids today, but thank God there was once a time when they considered that too vulgar. In short, this is good vintage James Garner with a lot of extras thrown in.

    5 out of 5 stars What a hoot!.......2005-08-11

    I loved this film.

What an absolutely hilarious movie. There are scenes that are so unforgettable.... like in the first place.... what is James Garner doing on a camel in the old west?!?!?

But it makes sense as the film goes along. And the scenes between James Garner and the little boy Clay O'Brien are often comical. They work great together. You'd never know that the "Indian" boy in this film is the same blonde-haired, blue-eyed youngster in John Wayne's classic film, "Cahill, U.S. Marshall".

I enjoy a good comedy film, and this one is near the top of my list. James Garner is always so believable in whatever role he plays.... and if being a camel-riding, orphan-toting, short-tempered cavalry-escapee is his role, only James Garner can make it seem believable (in the comedy role that it is).

If you wish to view a simple, rural, 1800's-style comedy film that is sure to be enjoyed.... this is one I'd certainly recommend.

3 out of 5 stars Family movie with favorite actors.......2005-02-16

I remember seeing One Little Indian as a kid so I picked it up. There's not much action but a long traveling story. The interesting thing is the list of up and coming stars that were in it.
Jay Silverheels (Tonto), Jim Davis from the tv show Dallas
Robert Pine from CHIPS, James Garner from Rockford Files and of course Jodie Foster.
As many Disney films there's some action and sad events in the story. A white boy (Clay O'Brien)who was captured by the indians as a child. Then taken away from his indian "mother" whom he wants to get back to. This is a fine family movie for the younger set and for those who want to see the actors before they were famous.

    5 out of 5 stars good adventure.......2004-11-02

I loved this movie as a kid! Don't know why a kid wouldn't like it unless he/she was raised watching only horror and violence.

      5 out of 5 stars Voluminous Fun.......2005-10-21

This is one of these DVDs that gets very frequent rotation in my house, and it's not just because of the fabulous song selection. A great antidote to the glossy and flavourless MTV fodder- of course, you will not expect anything less from Bjork, but even though I liked the first Volumen video collection, it was not something I would view very often. This one is different, I found it very absorbing right from the start.
Alarm Call is pure joy, Bjork in jungle settings, posing on a raft in the middle of a river and getting on with that snake. The snappy punchline when she gets back at the little fishies with sharp teeth is just great.
All Is Full Of Love is one of the best videos you will ever see, though I find it very disturbing. The clash of cold, surgical machine world and the powerfullly emotional music and gestures gave me a real pause.
Hidden Place uses a simple trick: there is a colorful and possibly sentient liquid - think the black liquid from X-files- that crawls around Bjork's face; all of this makes for strangely fascinating sight. Goes great with the song, too.
Pagan Poetry is my favourite- the piercings may be too much for some people, and thanks to the flashes of Bjork's nipples it is guaranteed that no network music TV will ever touch this footage, so here's your only chance to see it. Bjork looks bleeping amazing in that topless dress, pearls and all, and being wild and fantastic, but this video also makes the song itself come alive. It was not a very memorable track from Vespertine for me, but that changed after I saw the story in motion, so to say.
Cocoon is interesting, just about that, and the other two videos are "only" very cool, but I love the way Bjork wanders around the forest/grass like a little, tiny, pregnant and somewhat kooky Alice in Wonderland in the Hands video.
It seems Bjork is bent on releasing a DVD every week, and there are a lot of them to choose from; I own several of them, but this one is really precious.

4 out of 5 stars A Little Less Than I Expected (but not a bad thing).......2004-04-02

Today, I got Volumen Plus DVD based on the reviews here at Amazon, particularly with regards to the nudity in two of Björk's videos. Although the videos were tastefully and artistically done well (reflecting Björk's talents as a visual artist), as a guy, I have to say that my expectations were not quite met. In Pagan Poetry, she was filmed either too close or too far away for her [mammary glands] to be fully seen; maybe it should have been filmed at multiple angles. As for Cocoon, it seemed as though she was covered with powder, and like Pagan Poetry, you couldn't get a real sense of Björk's physical beauty. But then, if that's the only thing a person looks for in a video, then you would be better off watching a performance by someone like the "talented" Britney Spears. In fact, the videos that I liked the best are It's In Our Hands and Alarm Call, which are both set in a forest/lagoon. I really liked the interplay between Björk and the animals in Alarm Call and the dress that she wore in the video. In my opinion, I think Alarm Call (one of the two up-tempo videos on the disk) did more to promote her beauty than either of the videos where she appeared nude.

By the way, Volumen Plus is just that, a "plus" to Björk's Volumen DVD. Compared to the original, I have to say that this disk was a little mellower and not as diverse as Volumen, but I still would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Björk..

      5 out of 5 stars amazing.......2004-02-27

A wonderful companion to volumen, it is worth the purchase if only for the video to "all is full of love", the most gorgeous music video I have seen to date. "Pagan Poetry" is also a standout with its pearl piercing content and the obsessive delivery of one of Bjork's most touching songs. "Cocoon" gives the erotic song of the same name an almost virginal futuristic geisha treatment and the cocoon spinning nipples are precious and surprising. A must buy for Bjork fanatics.

      4 out of 5 stars Don't Throw Away "Volumen".......2003-07-01

I was all set to sell my Bjork "Volumen" DVD when I saw that Bjork put out an updated version of the video collection. It wasn't until I saw that she was kind enough to put out an addendum to her previous release as well that I decided to hold on to my disc. "Volumen Plus" is a collection of videos made after the release of the intital disc. I was worried that the updated "Volumen" might have extras that wouldn't be on any other release but luckily that wasn't the case so for all of you Bjork fans worried that your copy would be lacking, no need to fear. Stick with "Volumen" but add "Volumen Plus" to your collection as well since you'll have a complete collection of innovative videos (not to mention Bjork nude in two of them). For those with a decent sound system, 5.1 surround for several of those videos is added as well as normal dolby sound. Bjork has some of the most intriguing videos out there and this collection highlights just how progressive and artistic she is when it comes to making pieces that compliment her music for the better. While not as encompassing as "Volumen", "Volumen Plus" still is a worthy disc for those who want to add to their collection or just want to see what how this Icelandic pixie has progressed as an artist since her early nineties "Debut".

4 out of 5 stars Remarkable - Bringing the avant garde to the masses.......2003-07-01

If you already have Volumen (the first part, previously issued) this DVD is the perfect supplement to catch you up on what has happened since. The videos are fresh, somewhat daring and visually stunning. This is not you regular MTV "dime a dozen" video. Bjork, once again, teams up with true visual arts masters and brings us video art worthy of university level discussion in art classes. One of my favorites here is "All is Full of Love", simply one of the best "music videos" made. The effects are amazing, the narrative simple, and probably one of the most sensual scenes of robots on film.

This would have been ideal as a limited edition DVD packaged with the "Becoming X" CD. All the video's are here (Tesko Suicide, 6 Underground, Spin Spin Sugar and Post Modern Sleeze) in all their glorious Kelli (Ali the Tigermouth) Dayton charm. However, there is one strange addition to this DVD compilation. "Low Five"? is that really Sneaker Pimps? it's not anything I've ever heard from the Becoming X release, although the DVD packaging would indicate otherwise. It would appear that the remaining Pimps are not only trying to make a buck off of the dearly departed Kelli Ali, but also trying to promote the "Splinter" CD as well. Basically destroying what would have been appropriate closure to the Kelli Dayton era.
