The story of Jesse and Frank James, the real-life robbers whose exploits earned them a Robin Hood reputation, has been portrayed in dozens of films that are more faithful to myth than to history. Only in the revisionist 1970s did the romantic shadings come off in a few genre-busting examples (notably The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid and The Long Riders). Oddly enough this 1994 feature takes more than a few factual liberties to restore the romantic portrait of the bank-robbing brothers. Four years after the Civil War, in a South crawling with carpetbaggers and occupied by Union troops, the hotheaded Jesse (Rob Lowe) and his clearheaded older brother Frank (Bill Paxton) take to the trail in a campaign of bank jobs, train robberies, and stage holdups while evading the dogged efforts of Allan Pinkerton (William Atherton) and his detective agency. Writer-director Robert Boris presents the boys as heroes of the defeated South, gentleman robbers avenging the pillage of their people by the railroad and bank concerns pouring in from the North and pursued by a maniacally driven Pinkerton on a personal quest for revenge. In the wake of Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven this film comes off as old fashioned and a little naive, but the measured pace and the casting of country singer Randy Travis (who plays Cole Younger and narrates with a voice like molasses) gives the film, in moments, the intimacy of a ballad. --Sean Axmaker

The two-disc edition of Sin City easily makes the earlier single-disc theatrical-cut release obsolete by including the regular theatrical cut on the first disc, recutting the movie into four extended segments on the second disc (separated by story line), then piling on an impressive load of bonus features. But there's a catch. Billed as "Recut, Extended, Unrated," with "over 20 minutes" of new footage, the new set's four separate stories are extended by only about 6.5 total minutes of movie action (see details below in "What's New"); the rest of the added running time is the splashy new title shots (named by the title of the story or book) and the four minutes of credits that run at the end of each segment. Each addition makes the movie even closer to the comic books, and these extended segments are generally preferable to the theatrical equivalents (unfortunately, there's no Play All option), but don't expect the same impact as Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings extended editions. And although this version is unrated, the only risqué addition is a bit of violence from Miho that's no worse than the rest of the crazy violence in the film.
How Are the Bonus Features?
Robert Rodriguez has always loved DVDs, so the bonus features are extensive. On the first disc, there is somehow room for the theatrical cut of the film with its DTS track (the extended versions have only Dolby 5.1), two commentary tracks, an alternate audio track with a live audience in Austin, Texas, an interactive map of characters and locations, and 47 minutes of featurettes covering Frank Miller, Quentin Tarantino, cars, costumes, props, and special effects. The first commentary is Rodriguez and Miller discussing the concepts and the cast. The second commentary is mostly by Rodriguez, but Tarantino drops in briefly for the scene he directed (with Clive Owen and Benicio Del Toro in the car), as does an enthusiastic Bruce Willis for his segment.
The Tarantino scene gets a lot of attention on the second disc as well, in a 14-minute take in which he can be heard coaching the actors. Also on the disc are Rodriguez's usual "flic school" (among the topics is how scenes were created by merging footage of actors who never actually met), footage of Bruce Willis's band performing in Austin at the time of the shooting, and another Rodriguez cooking school (this time it's breakfast tacos). But the most interesting feature is the "green screen version" of the film: the entire film as it was shot in front of the green screen, sped up to play in only 12 minutes. You can see the actors (in color!) interacting only with the props and each other. Last, there's a DVD-sized complete comic book of The Hard Goodbye.
What's New in the Extended Version?
"The Customer Is Always Right" (the opening sequence with Josh Hartnett and Marley Shelton) has no new footage, but now goes straight into the one-minute epilogue with Hartnett and Alexis Bledel that closed the theatrical cut. "The Hard Goodbye" (with Mickey Rourke as "Marv" ) has two new sequences totaling about two minutes: Marv encounters his mother and finds his gun, and talks to Weevil in the club. In "The Big Fat Kill" (with Clive Owen and Benicio Del Toro), some short dialogue is restored, along with another wicked slice by Miho (Devon Aoki)--about a minute total. "That Yellow Bastard" (with Bruce Willis and Jessica Alba) has about 3.5 new minutes: there are more visitors to Hartigan's hospital bed, including his wife and a nurse; Carla Gugino's Lucille character comes to assist Hartigan when he wants to get out of jail (probably the best addition); and Mr. Shlubb and Mr. Klump have some more lines. --David Horiuchi

Customer Reviews:
Excellent movie.......2007-07-01
This is one of my all time favorite movies. There is a short list of DVDs that I own which infinitely keep my attention, and Sin City is one of those I can watch three or four times in a row and not get bored. I am only giving this DVD set 4 stars however, only because there is no option to watch all the uncut parts together in full length. I kind of understand why the DVD was put together like this but it would have been nice to see the whole thing cut together so we can watch it beginning to end with all the added scenes integrated. Obviously it's good to have the full disc with the original cut, and this is the one I generally watch but it was great to see the uncut scenes as well. The added graphic novel to the box set was a nice touch as well. 5 stars for the film, but 4 for this edition. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Soooo Freakin Good.......2007-06-19
So, you watch movies to be entertained and that's what you get with this movie. You never want to stop watching AND then you want to watch it again. There is a lot of gore but, it's kind of abstracted by the comic book setting but overall it's a pretty rough movie. Still, it was good enough we are planning to watch it again.
A nice DVD package........2007-05-30
This is a nice package for a film such as this. My only wish, is that it would contain more interviews with Frank Miller and how he brought Sin City to life as a comic book. But other than that, there's a nice selection of interesting features on how they made this fantastic film. Plus, this DVD contains a complete copy of The Hard Goodbye, which is one of the original graphic novels. It's fun DVD to have. I hope you like it!
Frank Miller Fan.......2007-05-26
This is an amazing two-disc release. Director Robert Rodriguez brilliantly brings to life Frank Miller's graphic novels, and does not hold back with the development of these gritty characters. Mickey Rourke alone deserves 5 stars for his portrayal of Marv. This set is worth having strictly on the merits of the development of that character. For anyone who has a love for the making of films and the time consuming processes involved in the "behind the scenes", the bonus disc will satisfy your appreciation for the multifaceted areas of story telling. Let's hope that when Frank Miller's "300" is released to DVD, that the extras will be just as enjoyable.

When Elvis-like rock & roll star Conrad Birdie is drafted into the military, the teen nation is united by a contest in which the winner bestows a farewell kiss upon their idol while on the Ed Sullivan Show. Ann-Margret (in her film debut) is the lucky little lady from Sweet Apple, Ohio, who wins the contest, much to the chagrin of her steady beau (Bobby Rydell) and miserable parents (Paul Lynde and Mary LaRoche). Dick Van Dyke and Janet Leigh are an older couple kept from marrying by his meddlesome mother, played to the hilt by Maureen Stapleton. Lightweight but fun, this features an exuberant soundtrack with such memorable ditties as "Put on a Happy Face" and "Kids" and the title track. This is a much better choice than the lackluster, 1995 made-for-TV version. --Rochelle O'Gorman
Customer Reviews:
Hello Again, Birdie.......2007-05-08
More than 40 years after first viewing in theatres, this is still a delightful escape with a trip down memory lane. Music and lyrics are classics. Ann-Margret and Janet Leigh display dancing and singing talent that is often forgotten, with excellent support work from Dick Van Dyke, Paul Lynde, Bobby Rydell and Maureen Stapleton. The times certainly changed after this period of adolescence, but Bye Bye Birdie took us back to an age of naivety where nothing bad was ever going to happen to us. Good social comment of the time.
Great family movie.......2007-01-11
My 11 year old son is trying out for a part in a local production of "Bye Bye Birdie" so I purchased this DVD so we could both get an idea of what the movie/play is all about and get a flavor for the musical productions. Even though this movie was made in the 1960's, it was very entertaining for both of us. The movie is good clean family entertainment and is well worth purchasing to have as a part of our family movie library.
BYE BYE BIRDIE.......2006-11-10
EVEN IN THE BEGINNING ANN MARGARET WAS WONDERFUL.. BOBBY WAS JUST SO GREAT LOOKING (STILL IS. THIS MOVIE WAS REALLY FUNNY AND WILL BE AROUND FOR A LONG TIME TO COME!!
Just a good old fashioned goofy musical.......2006-09-01
I watched this recently and realized I had forgotten about a lot of it. I still really think Ann Margret was dazzling. and absolutely perfect for the role of Kim. I didn't care much for Janet Leigh in this one, it must have been the black hair -- and I don't think when I saw this as a teen that I even realized she was supposed to be LATINO. O-kay . . . .
I think the biggest surprise in this film was Bobby Rydell, the early 60s teen idol (who could actually sing) -- he was amazing as Hugo. Wow! He just flowed thru that thing like he'd been doing it all his life .. . but then, I don't remember him ever doing it again . ..? I know he still tours, with Frankie Avalon and Fabian I think, and he looks really DIFFERENT -- I mean, he looks an awful lot like George W. Bush nowadays. Weird. Anyhow, I thought he was perfect for his part as well, as for the rest, some of it got to be a bit much -- esp. Paul Lynde and his whiny sarcasm (how much of that can you take?) and that Ed Sullivan skit was just silly. But, I love the Kim/Hugo/Birdie dance in the soda shoppe, that makes the film, I think. Watch it with your teenagers, if you can corral them for a while.
I love Ann Margret.I love One last kiss &One boy........2006-08-07
I am japanese and can understand English a little. But I can enjoyed this movie very much.

This HBO documentary is based on a highly original idea: tell the story of baseball from the Great Depression era through the late 1950s using footage from home-movie cameras shot by fans and players. The result is a marvelous look at baseball in America as seen from the ground--the culture of stadiums, the ritual of afternoon games, the spiritually sustaining rivalries. Among the truly unexpected sights is color footage of the 1938 World Series, not only from inside the stadium walls but from the street as traffic cops, crowds, and vehicles amassed. It also covers World War II's impact on the game, and, of course, the heroes, often caught in relaxed, unselfconscious moments.
Arguably more defined and even more lyrical than its predecessor, When It Was a Game 2 moves from a general celebration of baseball culture in America to a specific focus on various facets of the game's history, including the special relationship between game announcers and fans and the farm-team system during the 1930s, '40s, and '50s. Brooklyn's assimilation of the Dodgers into their community identity is covered quite winningly as is the heartbreak of the team's desertion to California. Last, the film takes us on a tour of some of the game's legends and presents a touching tribute to the extraordinary Babe Ruth. --Tom Keogh
When It Was a Game 3 focuses on the 1960s, a time of change for all of America. Through sharp, incredibly clear color footage of players and fans, the film shows how Major League Baseball slowly but surely evolved from pure sport to moneymaking entertainment. Covering the mighty Yankees, the western expansion of both leagues, the increasing inclusion of black players, and the rise of free agency and increased salaries, the film shows the growth of baseball from adolescence to adulthood. --Rob Lightner

Triple Play! But Not Quite An Unassisted One .......2007-07-04
An engrossing three pack of DVDs that shows color film of stars from the Thirties thru the Sixties - there were a few too many "odes to baseball" for me and not enuff ID of the players in the first two DVDs, which made the last disc the most enjoyable for me because more players were identified (and I guess I recognized them better, too) - it would've been even better if HBO had taken the time to identify the other players in the film - sure, we all know Babe and Mickey and Ted, etc. when we see them but it would've been great to see identification of "lesser" players (by "lesser" I mean players we dont recognize right off). But still, plaudits to HBO for doing this series when they did - much better than anything that Burns series did for baseball, which had far too many "odes to New York" for my tastes.
When It Was a Game - Triple Play Collection.......2007-05-13
One of the best baseball documentaries every put together. If you love the game you will not want to leave this out of your dvd lineup.
Best Baseball DVD...Ever.......2007-04-18
You'll be amazed at some of the footage here..a nearly ivy-less Wrigley, a ad-filled monster at Fenway, infielders tossing their gloves onto the outfield grass after the 3rd out, and on and on and on. Legends you've only read about or seen still photographs of in living color, many in the prime of their careers. Some of the commentary is a little syruppy, but that's baseball...a must for any fan, regardless of age.
A MUST HAVE IN THE COLLECTION FOR ALL BASEBALL ENTHUSIASTS.......2007-03-20
This compilation of home movies from bygone eras with interwoven poetry by the acting stars of today is classic. It's a must have, feel good set for any real baseball fan. For anyone who grew up in the 50's and the 60's it will touch your baseball soul.
"When It Was a Game" retrospective.......2007-03-19
I have owned the VHS version of WIWaG II for years and rewatched it a few weeks ago. After seeing it, I decided to order the full DVD set. As a boy growing up in the fifties and sixties, baseball was everything for myself and my friends from end of snow to start of snow; it was literally what we lived for. So, this set, especially the volumes II and III, is heaven on earth. The memories it brings back are crystal clear- baseball cards, sitting at Fenway watching Williams, Piersal and Malzone, and Saturday afternoon games on TV with Dizzy Dean and Buddy Blatner.
However, in that "idyllic" youth, there were obviously some things that I missed as well. All three of the DVDs, but especially #III, provide some outstanding social commentary about the people and the times, The players were essentially serfs for the owners and the racial injustices and inequities were horrific. In many ways, I'm not sure that things today are much better, but they certainly are different.
This set is a wonderful remembrance of a time that, for many of us, was almost mythical in its enjoyment. In addition it provides a healthy dose of reality for those of us who, even today, might remain somewhat jaded by the past. I heartily recommend it to baseball fans of all generations!

Even when his trademark twist-ending formula wears worrisomely thin as it does in The Village, M. Night Shyamalan is a true showman who knows how to serve up a spookfest. He's derailed this time by a howler of a "surprise" lifted almost directly from "A Hundred Yards Over the Rim," an episode of The Twilight Zone starring Cliff Robertson that originally aired in 1961. Even if you're unfamiliar with that Rod Serling scenario, you'll have a good chance of guessing the surprise, which ranks well below The Sixth Sense and Signs on Shyamalan's shock-o-meter. That leaves you to appreciate Shyamalan's proven strengths, including a sharp eye for fear-laden compositions, a general sense of unease, delicate handling of fine actors (alas, most of them wasted here, save for Bryce Dallas Howard in a promising debut), and the cautious concealment of his ruse, which in this case involves a 19th-century village that maintains an anxious truce with dreadful creatures that live in the forbidden woods nearby. Will any of this take anyone by genuine surprise? That seems unlikely, since Emperor Shyamalan has clearly lost his clothes in The Village, but it's nice to have him around to scare us, even if he doesn't always succeed. --Jeff Shannon

An isolated, tight-knit community lives in mortal fear of an oppressive evil inhabiting the forbidden forest just beyond their tiny village. So frightening that no one ventures into the woods ... until one villager dares to face the unknown. With unforgettable performances from Joaquin Phoenix, Sigourney Weaver, William Hurt, Adrien Brody, and newcomer Bryce Dallas Howard, this powerful motion picture is one of Hollywood's best psychological thrillers and ranks with the best of Hitchcock!
Customer Reviews:
fun, scary, and thought-provoking.......2007-07-03
I love thriller films, especially when they make a worthwhile point, and this one definitely fits. Not only was it an excellently-made movie with a plot that took many unexpected turns, but it also made me think about the role fear plays in our lives and the use of lies to perpetuate fear and control people. I see that a lot of people didn't really care for this film, but I really liked it.
Those We Often Speak Of.......2007-06-21
Although this film was widely successful, many felt that it did not live up to Mr. Shyamalan's previous efforts. I beilieve that is an incorrect assessment.
The Village is a truly beautiful film which tells one of the finest love stories in many years. The performances by all are top-notch, especially by the two leads, Joaquin Phoenix and Bryce Dallas Howard. The dialogue and usage of symbolism are exceptional, yet only part of the movie's many charms. The first time I tried to watch the movie, I found it slow and uninvolving. I was greatly mistaken. Much time is spent developing the state of the setting and establishing the main characters, rather than immediately jumping headlong into the action. This makes for a much more satisfying picture for those who like to think, as is the case with all of Night's films (save perhaps Lady in the Water, which is questoinable).
Few motion pictures capture the depths of mystery the way The Village does. Some say that they guessed the ending long before it came, but I find that unlikely. The clues are definitely there, as they should be, but everything has been orchestrated so perfectly it is hard to tear yourself away from the story long enough to consider the hidden truth.
Night is a master at revealing the right details at the right times. The pace can really only be thought of as slow if the viewer doesn't care to pay attention to everthing that is going on within this small village. Love is the unsung hero of the village, whose roots run deep within the hearts of nearly every person who lives there. The Village takes us back to a simpler time where morals were the very foundation of a community, where everyone was free to trust everyone else and happiness could be found in even the most mundane things. Churning the butter, sweeping the porch, washing the dishes - these are joyous undertakings in which each member of the town contributes to the good of all.
As for the creatures, termed "Those we do not speak of," they sure do speak of them a lot! Despite the fear the creatures evoke, it also strikes one as just a little humorous that was the term given to the mostly unseen monsters of the woods. Despite this, The Village is very intense indeed. It is mesmorizing to watch as the audience alternates between the goodness of the people and the fear that exists just out of sight.
I cannot say enough goos things about this underrated film. I loved every moment of it. Perhaps the best feature is how it shifts perspectives in mid-stream, but fails to lose any of its credibility. One day when you are feeling particularly low, know that you can count on this wonderful story to move you, to lift you up. The ending is awesome too!
A Good Place to Visit.......2007-06-12
This movie doesn't have quite the scare factor of Shyamalan's "Sixth Sense," nor quite the same level of twist-ending. However it is still an absorbing movie that provides a satisfactory wrap for all the mystifications it dangles along the way. And more than that, it is capable of provoking a lot of serious discussion among any group of friends who see the movie together.
In fact, this would be a good movie to screen for almost any classroom because of the lively, larger debate it invites. It is suitable for almost all individuals old enough to consider such issues, without in any way being a watered down, sanitized "kids' movie."
It is likely to fraction viewers off into the pros and the cons, with all sorts of shadings in between. It is especially relevant when considering communities that set themselves apart, either intentionally, such as the Amish, or through the necessities of historic struggle, such as many Native American communities. How far should things be allowed to go in these instances of isolation? You may well ask yourself that after you have finished watching "The Village."
The Village - more great M-Night.......2007-06-09
I give this movie a thumbs up. Yes it wasn't that scary but I don't think that was M Nights main point to the movie. For me ( spoiler here ) its about a group of people who try to escape society because something criminal and tragic happened to each of them. And though they have set up
a society of there own, tragedy still finds them. The romance and scary
elements are the icing on the cake. I really liked Bryce Dallas Howards
performance.
The story line itself is fatally flawed.......2007-06-04
My problem with this work, which I viewed for the first time last night on television rather than though a DVD, is that what should have been a great movie with many good points in its favour turned out to be a "Bomb". This was no fault of the excellent casts and the artistic cinematography. The projection of an almost Amish like isolated Victorian era village community was very well -handled. As at least one other reviewer has written, the damp leafless November woods and mists lend as eeriness most suitable to the setting of the story. However, the story line itself is fatally flawed. The ending could have been saved had a better extra twist been added than the one we are shown. I do not want to include any spoilers here. In fact part of my problem is that I learnt too much about the movie before I watched it. Inevitably when there are so many dismal film works shown indiscriminately on TV channels one resorts to site such as Amazon or IMdB for some sense of whether a film to be screened on TV is worth watching or taping.
I am very fond of what might be called "twilight zone" genre films despite the fact that so few of this kind are successful. It is probably one of the most challenging film script genres to write. So I would have incorporated and expanded the feeble attempt at an extra twist right at the end of the film of a kind that would have strengthened the predictable and not very impressive main twist with a less predictable ending. This is not a movie that most people might enjoy, even if it were improved by such suitable amendments and additions that might occur at some time in the future, but for a minority it is an extremely well done if not a perfectly finished work of art. Thus I give it three stars.

"A basket full of kisses for a basket full of hugs." Those are chilling words, at least when uttered by that ice princess, Patty McCormack. As Rhoda Penmark, she is as pretty as a porcelain doll but drips venom with each curtsey and polite response. Little Rhoda's mother is terrified she has passed on her own mother's corruption. Oops, turns out she's right. This passes the test of time, as it still gets under your skin. The character development is tight and the story very involving. Not even Freddy Krueger had the ability to scare like tiny McCormack, looking just like a little adult while she literally beats out the competition for a penmanship award. However, director Mervyn LeRoy's hands were tied over the ending, which was changed from the source material--Maxwell Anderson's hit Broadway play. A supposedly more appropriate, and moral, ending was demanded by the studio. This was remade (badly) in 1985. --Rochelle O'Gorman
Customer Reviews:
! the bad seed - every character deserved an oscar !!!!!.......2007-06-30
i will never forget seeing this movie the bad seed when i was a young teenager. i have seen it over and over again since my teenage years. this movie is top notch. the acting in this movie is superb. every character in this movie deserved an ACADEMY AWARD. the bad seed is a true, real thriller. this movie has everything. nothing is lacking in this movie. where did they find this child actress ? i am astonished every time i watch this movie at her chilling performance. i do not think i ever saw her in another movie. she should have been at the top of every directors list for a role in their movies. i find acting talent to be lacking. especially, in this type of movie genre. i am always shocked when i see the date this movie was made 1956. this movie was way ahead of its time and underappreciated. everyone should watch this movie and understand afterwards what a true classic it truly is.
The Bad Seed.......2007-06-26
LeRoy's divinely campy classic about a psychopathic child with a suspiciously sweet veneer was adapted from Maxwell Anderson's Broadway play, also starring Kelly and McCormack. When Christine discovers a long-buried secret about her own biological family just as another "accidental" death clouds their home once again, the plot takes a chilling twist. McCormack is one of the eeriest evil dolls you'll see, and Eileen Heckart, playing the mother of Rhoda's first victim, delivers an extraordinary, Oscar-nominated performance. Despite a silly tacked-on ending dictated by sponsors of the day, "The Bad Seed" remains a highly distinctive, creepy little thriller about a very badly misbehaved child. Classic dialogue between Rhoda and her dad: "What will you give me for a basket of hugs?" "A basket of kisses!" Yikes!
melodrama to whip up fear of genetic determinism.......2007-06-06
This is a crude plug for genetic determinism of a sociopathic child murderer. While some of the details of the plot are frightening - a child committing savage acts for the most mundane of motives - the one-sided assumption that it is purely because of "bad genes" ruined the experience for me. Sure, I admit my bias for a combination of genetic temperament with environment to explain who we become, so my revulsion is personal. I just think viewers should know about the film's message,
Awful and badly acted; not as good as the book.......2007-04-17
Having read the book by William March many years ago and really liking it, I recently had the chance to see the film version again. It is obviously not as good as the book; in fact it is pretty terrible and laughable.
It's obvious that it's just an opened up stage play; it seems stiff and stilted and stagey; everyone seems to speak loudly as if trying to make their voices reach the upper balconies of a theater. Pretty badly acted all around but the worst is Nancy Kelly. She got an Oscar nomination for this?? All she does is scream or shout her lines in an increasingly hoarse voice and wrings her hands dramatically almost like a character in a Perils of Pauline movie. She is so laughably bad in every scene and her character is just about as stupid. Finally it takes a hammer to the head for her to figure out what's going on.
Patty McCormack and the usually excellent character actor Henry Jones are both pretty one-note in their performances. Enough said. But the saddest is to see the great Eileen Heckart overacting badly as a grieving drunk of a mother. Her histrionics make you want Rhoda to do away with her too. And the neighbor Monica...equally annoying. I kept waiting for Rhoda to shove her down the stairs just to shut up her incessant prattling on about nothing.
This was a huge hit on Broadway and the cast was carried over for the film version; maybe it worked better on stage, I don't know...but it's a pretty awful film; not the classic it's reputed to be. Not a bit of suspense or horror or anything else here to give you chills. Just a chance to watch some good actors like Heckart and Jones stumble around with a silly script and overact like kids in a high school play. It's a lot of fun to watch if your intent is to not take it seriously and to make fun of it. Then you should have a good time.
****SPOILER FOLLOWS****
Best part? The end when Rhoda gets nailed by a bolt of lightning. Too bad the lightning didn't get her mom at some point early on.
Back When Hollywood Knew How To TOTALLY CREEP YOU OUT!.......2007-04-12
Nothing creeps out and frightens and audience on more levels than something horrorable that could honestly happen in real life. The other creepy thing about this movie is the question it asks. Are truly bad people bornas a result of bad genes or made products of maladjustedf enironments growing up, which is the primise of this movie.
Too look at her the young girl child in the bad seed is on her surface sugar and spice and everything nice. But under that sweet gentle refined lady like exterior beats the heart of an uncompromising savage willing to do, say and hurt anyone to get her way. The child in this movie is a champion manipulator who beleives all people are put on this Earth specifically for her use as she see's fit. The child is an absolute sadist. The funny thing is part of you is taken in by her sweet darling image. The most wonderful thing abouut the Bad Seed is its ending, you think she gets off but does she really! Watch the movie. The Bad Seed is in all ways shocking and funny.

SOUNDTRACK PROBLEM BUT GREAT MOVIE.......2007-06-12
I loved this movie. When I first saw 10.5 I knew I'd want to own it, especially without the zillion commercials TV fills it with! Then I found this sequel and without seeing it I ordered it.
I love the movie! Plenty of special effects and there's always something going on. It's a long movie but well worth the time and you won't be bored if you like disaster films. So why did I rate it only 3 stars? After watching this movie my first thought was, what happened to the soundtrack! When I saw the ocean pulling back from the shore I didn't expect it to sound like a wind tunnel test done in a tin can. (this is at the beginning of the movie so I'm not giving anything away) Voices come through fine but the special effects are confusing to the mind. Your eyes see one thing and you hear something completely different.
The original 10.5 was put out by Lions Gate Films. The 10.5 Apocalypse on Amazon says the DVD is put out by Platinum Disc? but my DVD was put out by Echo Bridge Home Entertainment. I contacted them about the soundtrack and received an email today stating that they are aware of the soundtrack problem and IF they ever reissue this movie the problem will be fixed. But the DVDs they put out there are defective.
So I say 5 Stars for the movie, 3 Stars for the awful soundtrack. If the DVD you order is put out by Echo Bridge Home Entertainment, I feel you should know about the defect up front, not after you buy it. I bought it for a great price so I'm willing to live with the defective soundtrack.
10.5 APOCAL YPSE.......2007-06-09
THE GARHPICS ARE EXCELLENT,THE ACTORS,PLAYED IMPORTANT ROLE IN THIS MOVIE. VERY EMOTIONAL .BUT CAN HAPPEN IN REAL LIFE. EVERYBODY STAYED CLAIM AND WORKED TOGETHER. VERY WELL PUT TOGETHER. I GIVE IT TWO THUMBS UP
Lots of action........2007-04-16
Short, sweet, and to the point.
Wall to wall action, even the filler is action...maybe a little too much action. Three and a half stars--I rounded up.
Great movie but negative.......2007-03-11
I saw it on TV and LOVE that movie. I was so thrilled to get DVD to watch it again BUT the negative thing is there is NO CLOSED CAPTIONED or SUBTITLE for Deaf, Hearing Impaire and Hard of Hearing people. Its too sad. It isnt worth it to buy it.
Great Movie.......2007-02-24
I really liked this movie. Any movies that show something wrong with the Earth I watch. It is fascinating. I sometimes wonder about the catastrophes that happen. I have been in eartquakes and hurricanes too. The one thing in the movie I have thought a lot about is, at one time was our land here on earth one big slab of dirt?

Prejudice and acceptance clash in Halloweentown High when Marnie (Kimberly J. Brown) attempts to prove that humans and the supernatural inhabitants of Halloweentown can peacefully co-exist in the mortal world. Thanks to a slip of the tongue, Marnie's brainstorm to sponsor a high school exchange student program between Halloweentown and her own high school quickly turns into a battle to save the Cromwell family's magical powers and keep the portal between worlds open. An already arduous undertaking becomes even more difficult when the supposedly fictional Knight of the Iron Dagger starts haunting the Halloweentown exchange students right in the mortal world. In the end, it is the common mortals who, by demonstrating tolerance and a commitment to equality, possess the power to save the Cromwells' magic and the entire human world. This third movie in the Halloweentown trilogy focuses primarily on Marnie. Aggie (Debbie Reynolds), Gwen (Judith Hoag) and the other Cromwell family members are secondary characters with less prominent roles than in the previous two productions. Makeup and costuming is top rate in this Disney Channel original movie, the trolls and ogres are not too scary, and bonus games and activities are plentiful. (Ages 5 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

I love this movie .......2007-03-13
Doesn't have to be audited by an adult before letting your child watch. It is a cute movie about a family that has a problem--- the females are witches. This movie is later on in the series and follows a budding witch into high school. Really cute for adults too.
great movie.......2007-02-07
I love this movie, when Return to Halloweentown(4) comes out im getting that :)
Halloweenton High.......2007-01-10
I think it is cute. If you like enchanting places then this movie is for you.
A Halloween Favorite.......2007-01-10
Halloweentown High is as great a movie as the first two Halloweentown movies. There is plenty of suspense for the adults, yet it is entertaining enough for a three year-old. The only reason I rated it a 4 was that I wish "Sophie" were given a bigger part. It is definitely a Halloween staple for our family as well as a few of our friends.
Halloweentown High.......2007-01-09
This movie is a great buy for children because there is nothing that is inappropriate for them to see, yet it provides them with the scariness of Halloween. It is well done with good special effects.

The Dangers Of Time Travel: A Very Good And Underrated Film!.......2006-10-11
When I first bought this DVD, I did so because the price was reasonable and the film sounded interesting. I am glad I did. This is a much better film than many have described. James Belushi does an outstanding role as a bigoted, wife-beating, irritating Texan. And as for Kylie Travis, she portrays a police psychiatrist whose attempts to alter the events of the future are futile. The film starts off with Travis, whose car has broken down on a desolate stretch of road in Texas, and is picked up by James Belushi and his wife. When Belushi [who is bad tempered] kills his wife in a fit of rage, Travis runs for her life in the desolate Texas desert. Moreover, she is in a part of Texas where it is mostly barren, and with nowhere to hide
However, as fate would have it she encounters a research scientist, Frank Whaley, who is conducting experiments in a secret and enclosed facility. The project he is working on is a time travel machine. When Travis accidently enters the chamber where teleportation occurs, she is catapulted back in time. She finds herself back in the car, and knows everything that is about to happen. And this is where the film gets really interesting. Travis makes repeated attempts to alter the future, however, every time she does she makes events worse than before. I will not give spoilers on what she eventually does, but I do recommend the film. It is definetly worth the watch, and the purchase. Belushi portrays his character to the hilt. Wonderful acting, writing and suspense make this a very good film. I highly recommend the film. [Star: 4.5]
Great movie, but the DVD image quality Sucks!!!.......2006-07-19
Great movie, but I'm very disapointed with the DVD image quality. It just simply sucks! Acceptable definition of contours in close plans, but very pixelated in the large/wide plans, to the point that loses detail completely and the image is almost - and just visual noise!!
Retroactice (DVD).......2006-07-14
EXCELLENT..SURPISED MULTIPLE TIMES....SO LIKE LIFE: WHENEVER YOU THINK YOU CAN MAKE IT BETTER WITH A SECOND CHANCE, THE OUTCOME MAY NOT (RATHER WILL NOT!) BE WHAT YOU HAD HOPE...Be careful all you "do gooders"!
Quantum Leap meets Groundhog Day........2004-12-12
The flick stars James Belushi as Frank, a psycotic killer with violent mean streak & temper, Kylie Travis, a semi-big star then from the UK, as Karen, a psychologist from Michigan who becomes hostage negotiator, & Shannon Whirry as Rayanne, Frank's ex who is killed brutally. It also features Frank Whaley as Brian, a young & handsome scientist who just perfected a time machine & Roger Clinton as a truck driver.
Karen has a flat tire, so she pulls over by the side of the road & gets picked up by Frank & Rayanne. Frank immediately stars to spook Karen by getting pissed off over little things. Rayanne tells him to calm down & get over it, but Frank doesn't listen to her. He picks up a gun after some tense dialog, Rayanne says she's gonna be killed by him, he fires it & kills her. Frank pulls over some time later on & Karen escapes to a lab where Brian is at.
Karen introduces herself to Brian & says she needs some help. Brian, after then, reveals his time machine to her. She goes into the machine & sets the time back to a couple of hours ago. Instead of fixing the problem she relives the same scenario as before except of course, things are more out of hand & unpredictable now. Frank on the 2nd time to the lab, pulls over his car & chases her with gun, but doesn't pursue her to the lab. She goes back into the machine again & tries it again. This time, things seem to be all right until she relives the same scenario over again. It takes her 3 or 4 times to get it right, on her final attempt, Frank chases her into the lab, & threatens to kill everybody if she doesn't come back to him. The time when she gets it right, she kills Frank & drives off into the sunset behind the wheel of his car.
It has some decent acting, but nothing too memorable. A lot of the dialog is fairly good, but some is really lame for sci-fi action. The special effects are really good & shine in this flick. The camerawork is good, as is the directing. I din't care for the music too much, it wasn't too bad, but just seemed out of place for the movie.
Grade: 6 out of 10.
Run time: 91 minutes.
Rated R for language & violence.
She's sexy; she time travels; she kicks butt........2004-10-22
This has been a favorite of mine since the second time I saw it. Not that I did not like it the first time; I had seen it on cable but could not remember the name until I came across a used copy about 4 years later. I have since watched it several times and always enjoy it. Kylie Travis plays a police negotiator who had failed in an attempt to negotiate the release of five hostages and instead are killed in an explosion (this preludes the movie in a flashback sequence). After she runs her car off the road because her mind is on the hostage incident, she is picked up by a couple played by Jim Belushi and Shannon Whirry. Jim Belushi is a loudmouth, over copensating, gun toting redneck (and those are his good qualities) transporting stolen computer chips and Shannon Whirry is quite abused by him. What follows is a car-ride that ends in murder and a chance happening across a time-machine in a secret government sponsored lab. This gives way to repeat the car-ride and incidents which follow (this may well be the longest ten minute car-ride in history). There are many small details which may seem insignificant at first but become further plot points as the story repeats itself. Each time the story repeats some action is taken differently in the hopes that it will change the outcome; often, though, making it worse. The characterizations are further developed as the story repeats. Since the story is building and fluctuating each time, it is not repetitve, and each subsequent change to the story increases the pace of the movie that much more. The directing and the story itself are well done. Where someone could have taken a story like this and let it drag by being too repetitive or lose the continuity by trying to advance the story too quickly; they came up with the right mix. 'Retroactive' is far from being shy on action; from car chases to flying lead and about everything in-between. The stand out performance in 'Retroactive' belongs to Shannon Whirry. She is incredible as the abused wife who tries to fight back. There are several in your face shots that all three play well but Shannon just seriously delivers; since this story hinges on saving her character, she gives good reason to make you want her character saved. M. Emmet Walsh is particularly nasty as Belushi's cohort in crime; and seeing Walsh's character bounced off the hood and over the roof of a speeding station wagon gives great satisfaction. Kylie Travis in her tight black pantsuit, white shirt and push-up bra is particularly captivating and exciting everytime she beats up Jim Belushi. 'Retroactice' is an exciting (at times loud), well paced, well scripted action movie with a great sci-fi premise. Ultimately this movie is not so much about time travel as it is about regrets about decisions we have made or not made and the blame we place on ourselves. If given the opportunity to change things we may find that we can actually make it worse and are not to blame for the natural course that events will take with or without us.-Bob

Total Disappointment.......2007-04-11
The FX are brilliant - definately not expected from an adult movie, however the R rating is so mild that the R rated content shown on main line TV channels is more explicit.
This is Ultra soft adult.
Who Wants an Adult Movie with no Adult Content?.......2007-02-22
The R-rated version of an adult film is a terrific waste of time. Most adult films have so little plot to hang the story onto, they barely deserve the description of being "movies". In cutting this film to an R-rating, the producers have gutted the film (nay, movie) into a set of disjointed scenes that jump-cut past what was obviously the most important activity in the movie in the first place: the sex. The effect is jarring, like being Billy Pilgrim (from Kurt Vonnegut's "Slaughterhouse Five"), constantly jumping ahead in time and always "just when things were getting interesting".
If you want to see this movie, get the unrated or adult version. Leave the R-rated on the shelf, for the seventeen year-olds.
No me gusto para nada.......2006-12-23
Es una buena película en cuanto a producción, pero esta versión es malísima, me arrepiento de haberla comprado, gracias
Inane fun for grownups.......2006-10-15
There's exceptional material here: wood, lead, brass, and silicon. I mean, wooden acting, leaden dialog, brazen synthesexual encounters, and siliceous implants for `most all the ladies. The many anachronisms are just goofy, down to the BoDerek braids, lip-glossed troutpout, and "potassium nitrate" for the gunpowder, rather than nitre or saltpeter.
But this isn't a historical drama. It's scarcely even a costume drama, when you think about how often the costumes come off. It's goofy, gaudy, and vulgar. If you want softcore comedy so soft that it's flaccid, you came to the right place.
Abandon all hope of decency, logic, artistic value, and common sense, ye who enter herein. (But then, they're pretty over-rated, aren't they?)

PS: There's a collection of bloopers among the extras on this disk. It says a lot about how over-the-top bad this movie is, when you can barely tell the difference between the bloopers and the real acting (or so they call it).
Perfect for those too shy for pornos.......2006-08-17
I was glad to see they've released an R-Rated version of Pirates. While the real thing is best, if you're too reserved to watch it, than you simply must check it out in its edited form. I mean, think about it. They edited out the hard-core scenes and there is still a 1 hour and 25 minute long movie left. This is not your typical porno. On top of hot girls like Jesse Jane and Carmen Luvana and Janine, you get a wonderfully cheesy plot, some decent costume and set design, absolutely absurd CGI effects, and some hysterical B-rated dialog (delivered impeccably by Evan Stone, who we've affectionately dubbed "The Bruce Campbell of Porn"). All it needs is some gushing fake blood in the swashbuckling scenes and it would be Troma-worthy.

Sooner or later, the Mystery, Inc. gang had to take on Mexico's legendary Bigfoot equivalent, El Chupacabra, and that's precisely what they do in this entertaining, feature-length, Scooby-style investigation into the paranormal. Taking the Mystery Van south of the border, Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby-Doo celebrate Day of the Dead festivities, which become less festive when a towering, glowering Chupacabra monster turns up to terrify both tourists and locals. The young snoops smell a conspiracy, and as they chase down clues their search for the truth leads them into sundry Mexican antiquities--ancient tombs and temples--where danger increases exponentially. There are the usual rituals: Our time-warped heroes run like the wind during encounters with alleged ghouls--particularly best-buds Shaggy and Scooby, when they aren't stuffing themselves with delicious Scooby Snacks. The animation is slicker and smoother--and more pleasing--than some other, recent Scooby-Doo features. --Tom Keogh
Description
New direct-to-video feature length movie. Scooby-Doo and the gang visit a friend in Mexico to celebrate the Day of the Dead (Mexico's version of Halloween). Unfortunately, a monster appears and begins terrorizing the town.

RENT THIS MOVIE.......2007-04-15
I love scooby so a wise word of advice: RENT THIS MOVIE. You will fall in love with it for a while and then never watch it again. I still love this movie but i can tell that most people would get bored after a little.
A Decent Reunion At Best .......2005-04-19
The best way to begin is to show you where I stand. I think "Zombie Island" and "The Witch's Ghost" were excellent. I didn't much care for "Alien Invasion" or "Cyber Chase." I thought "The Legend of the Vampire" was a surprisingly good return to form. Onto chapter six. I can't really say this is one of Scooby's better movies. It kind of lacks the punch and surprises of "Zombie Island" and "The Witch's Ghost." Instead of the scarey surprises seen in the first two movies, this 6th chapter seems to rely more on silly chases. (But if you like the original episodes, you probably won't mind that so much.) Also, in my opinion, the script is weaker which means the movie seems very long and drawn out. ("Zombie Island" and "Witch's Ghost" don't seem to have many dull moments at all.) And, I won't say too much here, but when the mystery is uncovered and you really didn't get to know the culprit in the first place, a certain edge is missing. (In "Zombie Island" and "Witch's Ghost," we got to know the culprits very well in the 1st half of the movie, and therefore, there was a scarey sense of recognition when the plots were uncovered. The main reason I can give to watch this movie is that it was at least nice to the original line up from the early cartoons (Casey Kasem-Shaggy, Frank Welker-Fred, Heather North-Daphne, and Nicole Jaffee-Velmah) together again. The movie is worth some interest, but it's more of a long episode. If you like Scooby, this movie is watchable. But, don't expect the terror, intensity, and suspense of "Zombie Island," "The Witch's Ghost," or even "Legend of the Vampire."
Seething mad at this film..........2005-01-24
Following a torrent of scooby movies to be released on video and DVD comes "Scooby-Doo an the Monster of Mexico," a film that highlights the legend of El Chupacabre, the Mexican Bigfoot. All the same, the Legend of the Vampire totally insulted the vampire myth, and so I didn't expect this new one to be any different. For that reason, I waited until it was being played on the cartoon network before watching...
Scooby-Doo and the Monster of Mexico
Here's how it ranked...
Sound: 3.5/5
Like Legend of the Vampire, this movie used a lot of the songs from the original series, and a few new ones, but unlike Legend of the Vampire, the original songs in this series were stereotypical to the point of being annoying. Hence the additional half-point down from that film.
Graphics: 3/5
The same grade that I gave the graphics in "Legend of the Vampire" and for the same reasons. This movie uses graphics that were just not as good as they could, or logically should have been, and were barely even better than those seen in the original series.
Story Concept: 3/5
Slightly less cheesy than the concept in Legend of the Vampire, but no less cynical towards the supernatural. Scooby and the gang visit Mexico for no real reason except to be in time for a mexican halloween, where they encounter El Chupacabre, and find out that there's a plot brewing. But as in the last movie, and the series, there were no real monsters. This creature was really just some woman in an animatronic suit. That was annoying, and I'm glad I didn't spend any money on it for that reason alone.
Story Presentation: 3/5
Similar to Legend of the Vampire in presentation, cause and resolution, except that the pleasing scenes of Daphne and Velma hanging out as they did in that movie were dropped in favor of scenes of the entire gang as stereotypical (and somewhat insulting) mexican tourists. Like in Legend of the Vampire, there is no real monster, but to make things even worse, Velma makes some comments near the end about monster stories that really cheezed me off. Her acts of superhuman strength in mid-movie were balanced off by the fact that they spent that whole section of the film getting chased my monstrous stone statues and tourists; a part which had nothing to do with the rest of the movie, and was seemingly added just to extent the length. The words of many of the bit-part characters got on my nerves too. I simply found the movie distasteful. Yes, it's scooby, and like Legend of the Vampire, it's funny scooby material, but it was presented too much like an episode of the series, and not enough like something worth making a movie over.
Acting: 5/5
Perfect grade here, because who plays Velma, Shaggy, Daphne and Freddy like their original voice actors? Like in Legend of the Vampire, the original actors returned, but again, it's a shame they had to pick a film like this to lend their voices to.
All in All: 3.5/5
I enjoyed this movie more than alien invaders, but less than Legend of the Vampire, because honestly, Legend of the Vampire at least had A LITTLE nostalgia to it and didn't go overboard into cheesy behavior and unforgivable puns like this movie does. However, this movie had no thrills at all, and was really just a silly little romp through a country which was, at best, a caricature of a real one. Frankly, I wanted more from Scooby, but it would be a lie to say I had EXPECTED more. This film is most comparable to Legend of the Vampire in general mood, pace and result, but it's sillier and less respectful, so if that's your cup of tea, have a ball. Otherwise, you may join me in a boycott of this movie. Toodles.
Scooby-Doo is a child's video hero........2004-05-03
I, for one, am glad that they keep making Scooby-Doo movies. The old stuff is still fun to watch and the new ones are great for me and my nearly 3 year old son. I have to admit though, El Chupacabra from this movie and the ghosts from The Boo Brothers is scary for my son to watch at nighttime so I don't offer it as a choice at night. In this day and age of foul mouths and violence on TV, I am glad to offer Scooby-Doo as a choice for my son.
Scooby Doo Flies High.......2004-04-25
Kids loved this one. Catchy music, lovely Mexican setting, several character who seem "suspicious" when scary things start happening. The flying statues scene from the ruins kind of confused my kids, but added to the mystery - did the statues really come to life or was it another trick? (the mystery is solved in the end) Scooby Doo and his crew have endured since my childhood and their newer movies are still entertaining for kids today.
