Second Chances was such a good movie that you must watch it a "Second" time.

My daughters (Ages 10, 8, and 4) and I caught this movie on the local Trinity Newtork last night. We were all glued to the set to watch this heartfelt movie. I was pleased with the story line and actors. I was quite taken by the deep sense of compassion and forgiveness that the main little girl character, Sonny, portrayed in the end towards another little girl. As a horse owner, I did catch the fact that the writers used a male horse at times to portray the female horse "Ginger" in the script - however, my daughters did not catch this until I pointed it out to them. As well as they used an Arabian at one point in time to show "Ginger's" fancy movement, when in fact the horse Ginger was "said" to be a Quarter Horse breed. (Again, most people would not pick up on this and neither did my girls) Also, having over 30 years of horse experience including barrel racing, I know that it is highly unlikely that a little girl could jump on a powerful horse the first time and ride fast barrels like was shown in the movie... But this did not at all affect my daughters as they watched since kids of course are natural dreamers to a point of being unrealistic (which is a good thing). I highly recommend this movie if you're interested in wholesome story line. Note: there was a couple of times the word "dang it" was used in the beginning. There is also one scene in the beginning where Ben, the main adult character (cowboy at the ranch) strongly shakes the little girl Sonny, when she has gone into a presumed-dangerous horses pen without permission. It should be noted that this movie shows how Sonny chooses to disobey at least 3 times, and thus, suffers the consequences of doing so. As a parent, I liked how the movie shows kids that there ARE serious consequences to their disobedience. Excellent movie that I will get a copy of.

great family viewing.......2005-09-04

Being a horse rider myself I thoroughly enjoyed the movie it just shows that if you have the determination to do something you really love you will suceed. A great movie for all the family horse lovers or not.

One of the few horse movies to feature barrel racing.......2005-01-05

When 10-year-old Sunny Matthews (Kelsey Mulrooney) is crippled in a car accident that took her father's life, she's bereft. Then she meets Ginger, a horse who's been through his share of troubles. Together, the two form a bond and find a mutual talent for barrel-racing competitions. Although no care whatsoever was taken with the continuity of the horses who portrayed "Ginger" this uplifting kid flick is entertaining enough.

Great Movie - Questionable Casting.......2004-12-16

Heartwrenching tale of a girl and her horse. Two creatures trying to heal...all they need is time and each other. I would recommend this movie for any member of the family, even though the casting is questionable, if not ridiculous! Terry Moore is cast as Dallas Judd, grandmother of Melinda Judd (Madeline Zima) and purportly former love-interest of Ben Taylor (Tom Amandes). Terry Moore was 69 years old when this film was made (and had more cosmetic surgery than Joan Rivers), while Amandes was 42!!! COME ON!!!! No amount of surgery could pull this one off!

A prequel to Divergence Eve (2003), the broadcast series Misaki Chronicles (2004) covers Misaki Kureha's days at the Allied Military Forces Academy. Misaki is a typical fan-service heroine: well-intentioned, not very bright, uncoordinated, and pneumatically constructed. To the inter-dimensional hokum from the earlier series, Misaki Chronicles adds time-travel and supernatural elements. Fan Service with a Deep Plot.......2006-04-13

Misaki Chronicles vol 1. is a fitting follow-on to the Divergence Eve series. Like the first series, the first few episodes start constructing a deep mystery, leaving the viewer to try to guess what's going on.

The first episode seems to be set just before the events of Divergence Eve, but we later find out that the timeline jumps around. The story in fact follows Divergence Eve, but provides prequel episodes of Misaki at the academy. Only we find out later that the events don't exactly follow what was 'supposed' to happen.

The series then begins to jump around in time, featuring several historical events from Japan's history (1594, 1936, etc). Unfortunately, the events do not have as much significance to Western viewers, and an Extras page with historical info and the significance of the event would have probably been a good idea.

The extras aren't quite up to the standards set in Divergence Eve. I particularly liked the tech specs on the inside cover from the original trilogy, but that is sadly lacking. Instead we're treated to an image of the girls in skimpy swimwear.

Of course, the first thing one notices when watching this disc is the girls ... and their attributes. Most of the female characters are well-endowed, and some (such as Misaki) are quite bouncy. The fan service is probably actually a little subdued from the first series, but that's not saying much.

Like the first series, you may start watching this for the fan service, but the engaging story will draw you in. Once the story starts moving, the fan service actually subsides in favor of the deep plot. It isn't often that I watch an entire 5-episode disc from start to finish in one evening. This one (as well as the first series, which I also highly recommend) is one of the few exceptions.

Another Serial from the creators of the Classic HOMEFRONT!.......2004-04-11

I'm sure few people remember SECOND CHANCES, the serial created by Lynn Marie Latham and Bernard Lechowick who also wrote and produced KNOTS LANDING and HOMEFRONT. The serial is set in the sleepy California town of Santa Rita and revolves around the love lives of three women: Diane (Connie Selleca), her sister Kate (Megan Follows), and their friend Melinda (Jennifer Lopez). The first six episodes introduce the characters as well as set up and solve a who-dunnit. The series continued for four more episodes and then was pulled (I seem to remember reading it had something to do with earthquake damage to sets but I could be wrong). The series was retooled and Melinda and her father Sal Lopez were spun off into another serial called HOTEL MALIBU (which is still called SECOND CHANCES here and are the last six episodes on the discs). These last six episodes are as good as I remember them the first time around. Clever writing, witty dialogue, and great casting--especially Romy Walthall who plays Nancy--make this a series that deserved a much longer life. Best off all, most all storylines are resolved so you won't be stuck wondering what happened next. No real extras but it is still a set worth picking up and at a really reasonable price too! Now, would someone PLEASE release HOMEFRONT on dvd?!?!?!?
