The writing-directing team of Charles Shyer and Nancy Meyers (Father of the Bride) made this sweet satire about a high-powered yuppie executive (Diane Keaton) who unexpectedly becomes a mom and finds she can't successfully integrate the role into her busy life. Typical of the Shyer-Meyers films prior to Myers taking the director's reins on the wonderful Parent Trap, Baby Boom is a little wooden and more sentimental than genuine. But there are entertaining moments, for sure, and Keaton is a delight. --Tom Keogh

5 out of 5 stars Baby Boom - a joy!.......2007-07-03

A career woman learns the joys and pitfalls of career/motherhood. One has to go, and she moves to a rural area into a money pit. Frustrations, house problems, lonliness, joy in her child, and a lack of purposefulness send her into the world of entrepreneurship, and she finds that there is much more to life than corporate America. Of course, a handsome vetrinarian doesn't hurt, either.

It will make you laugh, cry, and identify with many of her problems, whether you have children or you are simply a career woman with decisions to make.

4 out of 5 stars Just fun!.......2007-05-09

This is a perfect showcase for Diane Keaton and far superior to her more recent attempts. It certainly speaks for mothers in the workplace, especially single moms.

5 out of 5 stars Baby Boom.......2007-05-07

A good, heart-warming story about a woman who becomes an unexpected mother. Fun to watch and easy to follow along. A great movie.

4 out of 5 stars clean.......2007-05-04

This is a movie that the whole family can watch and these days thats rare.good movie.

5 out of 5 stars taught me a lesson.......2007-02-16

This movie is pretty much the reason I refuse to have a career that requires 90 hour work weeks. So good. Truly Diane Keaton at her finest. One of the best movies of the 1980s.

Catchy music and skillful animation lend a new richness to award-winning picture books like Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and Trashy Town in this Scholastic compilation. In "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom," jazzy melodies composed and performed by Crystal Taliefero complement Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault's innovative look at the alphabet while Lois Ehlert's busy letters absolutely scurry up and crash down from the coconut tree. The addition of the jazzy refrain "dump it in, smash it down, drive around" underscores the importance of the trash man's job in "Trashy Town" and Rosie's oblivious walk around the farm in "Rosie's Walk" is appropriately accompanied by a catchy country tune and twang-infused narration. Animation, voice talent, and the occasional melodic riff reinforce the themes of growth and change in "The Caterpillar and the Polliwog." (Ages 2 to 7) --Tami Horiuchi

5 out of 5 stars Great Learning DVD.......2007-06-28

My 3yr old absolutely loves this DVD. He now knows the words to the songs and sings along. He is learning to recognize letters with the help of this cute and catchy production.

5 out of 5 stars A longtime favorite for my little one!.......2007-04-12

This is one of the first DVDs we let our son watch (after only Baby Einsteins). We bought it because he loves the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom book. This disk did not disappoint, and all the stories were a big hit. Chicka Chicka is done as a musical video, with an added verse not in the book that is a great addition. The baby letters race up a coconut tree which eventually can't hold all of them (hence the 'boom boom'). The grown-up letters rush to the rescue and the little ones go home for the night, but mischievious little 'a' sneaks back out for a very cute ending.

Rosie's Walk is my personal favorite. An unflappable chicken takes a walk, unaware of the unlucky fox who tries to sneak up on her. Great music and quite funny.

The Caterpillar and the Pollywog is a great story, and the pollywog/frog is irristable in his enthusiasm.

The Foolish Frog is a classic. Pete Seeger is a master storyteller, and the story is a lot of fun and hilarious.

Joey Runs Away is very funny and sweet. Great narration!

Changes was one we didn't take to right away, but after giving it a chance it is endearing and fun in it's own right.

I would recommend this DVD highly to anyone with children 18 months to 4 or 5 years old. My 2 year old still asks for it on a regular basis (and we've watched it many many many many times!). It's one you as an adult will enjoy as well, and not get too sick of as time goes on.

5 out of 5 stars chicka chicka boom boom and lots more learning fun.......2007-04-04

I have had to buy 2 more cd s of it because my nephew 1 1/2 yrs loved the
Trashy Town song and story and my other grandchildren wanted their own copy
in California.

4 out of 5 stars Very Catchy!.......2007-03-23

This DVD is great. My kids both love the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom story and song. The only problem is that I wish it had a repeat feature like some other DVDs (Baby Einstein, etc.) since each segment is only a few minutes long, and they really just want the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom segment mostly. But it's a great alternative to some of the other kids' videos out there.

5 out of 5 stars Favorite books come to life.......2007-02-26

I'm a special ed teacher for K-1 and my students love these videos. They add a visual depth to these classic stories. Don't forget to view the extras and you can also have the words displayed as well. I find them invaluable for illuminating literature. Most stories are no more than 7-10 minutes long and so are great for getting students involved quickly. Well worth the price. Students ask for them over and over again. Get the books too and students begin to engage with the books and get excited keeping up with the video.

The Chicka Chicka 1-2-3 collection celebrates counting, explores American currency, and aids young children in the conceptualization of very large numbers. Bill Martin Jr. and Lois Ehlert again team up with singer Crystal Taliefero and Scholastic Video to create an animated story book with a catchy score. The numbers 1 through 10 climb an apple tree, followed by the tens from 10 to 100, but 0 feels left out and searches desperately for his place in the tree. In How Much is a Million?, David M. Schwartz and Steven Kellogg help kids visualize just how much a million, billion and trillion are with the aid of Marvelosissimo the Mathematical Magician and examples like the estimated height of one million kids standing one upon the other and the probable number of days it would take to count to a billion by ones. If You Made a Million takes a look at American currency, detailing how much each coin and bill is worth and exploring concepts like working to earn money, the relative costs of various items, earning interest from the bank, writing checks, and borrowing money from the bank. Finally, the bonus Millions of Cats is a 1928 black and white production featuring still drawings from the comical Wanda Gág book that chronicles an old couple's difficulty in choosing one perfect cat from a hillside thick with one million pretty cats. Clark Gable was "The King" of Hollywood in his heyday, and why not? He carried himself in his movies as though entitled by royal birthright, erect and cocky, not especially curious about the rest of the world because he already owned it. Sure, Gable's characters frequently had to be humbled, but that's not what you remember about him; what you remember is the utter self-confidence, the brash American energy, and--sure--the jug ears. Clark Gable: The Signature Collection is not just a topnotch collection of the King in his court, it's also a look at just how good the Hollywood studio system (in this case, MGM) was in its glory years.

Except for late entry Mogambo from 1953, these titles are from Gable's peak run--1933 to 1940. First up chronologically is Dancing Lady, which pairs Gable with Joan Crawford; he's a gruff Broadway director, she's a plucky young dancer who moves up from burlesque to the legit theater thanks to wealthy suitor Franchot Tone. It's not a great movie, but the formula is pleasing, and there's a young fellow named Fred Astaire (his film debut) in a couple of scenes. Some surreal comedy is provided by Ted Healy and His Stooges (whose names happen to be Moe, Larry and Curly).

Tay Garnett's China Seas, from 1935, was a reunion with Jean Harlow, with whom Gable had struck gold in Red Dust. The script by James Kevin McGuinness and the gifted Jules Furthman might have a preposterous plot--cribbed from Red Dust--but the dialogue is deliciously vulgar and the actors perfectly cast. Gable is the captain of a boat on the Hong Kong-Singapore run, carrying secret gold and fending off pirates and a typhoon. His real problem, however is that the classy woman (Rosalind Russell) he has long pined for has come aboard at the exact moment his bawdy mistress (Harlow) has also tagged along. Clarence Brown's Wife vs. Secretary (1936) brings Harlow back, this time as the executive assistant to Gable's wealthy tycoon. Their relationship is strictly professional, although wife Myrna Loy eventually has suspicions. Gable and Loy are cute together, and the film is a reminder of how playful he could be outside the manly-man world of many of his films.

The blockbuster San Francisco, also 1936, gives a pretty good blueprint of what audiences craved at the time. Gable is the rakish owner of a wild Barbary Coast club, Jeannette MacDonald the opera-ready songbird who performs for him, Spencer Tracy the no-nonsense priest and childhood friend who would love to reform Gable. Director W.S. Van Dyke keeps it all cracking along (well, except when MacDonald sings and Cultcha comes in) and the special effects for the San Francisco earthquake are really rather awesome. Boom Town (1940) was another box-office smash, with Gable and Tracy as Texas oil wildcatters who team up, split, team up, split, etc. Claudette Colbert is the woman loved by both, although the male bonding is the most engaging thing about this entertaining spectacle.

Mogambo is an official remake of Red Dust, with Gable returning, this time as an African safari leader. Even with gray hair, his masculinity is enough to entice good-time girl Ava Gardner and ladylike Grace Kelly. John Ford directed, which means the location exteriors and studio interiors alike are alive with Ford's expressive compositional eye. Included on the San Francisco disc is a TNT documentary profile of Gable. But these titles give a pretty good profile all by themselves. --Robert Horton

    4 out of 5 stars Gable's other work..........2006-08-20

All good films, some new to DVD ("San Francisco", "Wife Vs. Secretary", etc.), from Warner's MGM library. They all feature the usual great film transfers we've all come to expect from Warner Bros. However, "Wife Vs. Secretary" was transferred from a very poor print which was unfortunate because I found the film has an unusually good performance from Jean Harlow and has a great little story. The release of "San Francisco" is timely because of the 100th anniversary of the 1906 earthquake and fire. This has always been a favorite of mine. This collection is a good cross section of Gable's work and definitely deserves a first or second look!

5 out of 5 stars My favorite Golden Age actor gets the DVD set he deserves.......2006-07-28

Clark Gable is my favorite actor of all time, so the DVD boxed set, CLARK GABLE: THE SIGNATURE COLLECTION, from Warner Home Video is destined to be an often-played favorite. Gable made his first movie in 1931 and his last in 1961; this boxed set goes from 1933-1953. Included are six movie treasures: DANCING LADY (1933), CHINA SEAS (1935), WIFE VS. SECRETARY and SAN FRANCISCO (both 1936), BOOM TOWN (1940), and MOGAMBO (1953).

DANCING LADY is a Joan Crawford vehicle, with a young Clark Gable and Franchot Tone as the men she chooses between. We are in the Depression era Manhattan show business world, with Gable as a play director and Tone a millionaire playboy financing the show. Fred Astaire makes his film debut as himself, and Nelson Eddy and The Three Stooges have cameo roles. Bonuses are two Three Stooges shorts and a theatrical trailer.

CHINA SEAS is a "guilty pleasure" for director Tay Garnett. Gable plays a ship captain who does not know that his Hong Kong-to-Singapore voyage includes a gold shipment and Chinese coolies. The dream supporting cast includes Jean Harlow and Wallace Beery (re-united from DINNER AT EIGHT), a young Rosalind Russell, C. Aubrey Smith, and Lewis Stone. Bonuses are a color travelogue, a musical short, and a theatrical trailer.

Clarence Brown's WIFE VS. SECRETARY has Clark Gable married to Myrna Loy and boss to Jean Harlow. In a lovely movie, each woman respects the other. This is at least the fourth movie that Gable and Harlow made together; they were very popular. A young James Stewart plays Harlow's boyfriend and fifty years later still fondly remembered a passionate kiss they shared. Big bonuses here are a musical short, a theatrical trailer, and an Oscar-winning "Crime Does Not Pay" short.

An all-time favorite of mine, SAN FRANCISCO has been remastered to make its incomparable 1906 earthquake climax really something. But even without the bravura climax, we still have Barbary Coast joint owner Gable competing with wealthy uptown Jack Holt for Jeanette MacDonald as a singer. As a generic priest, Spencer Tracy got the Oscar nomination that should have gone to Gable's memorable Blackie Norton. The finale gives me goosebumps; curiously, one of the bonuses is an even more effective alternate ending. Other bonuses on this masterpiece are two Techicolor travelogues of the 1939 Treasure Island World's Fair, and a 45 minute TNT documentary on Gable's career and life. The first night you do this boxed set, start with this documentary as an overview.

Another "guilty pleasure", BOOM TOWN has a cast to die for--Clark Gable and Spencer Tracy again, this time as oil wildcatters, and Claudette Colbert and Hedy Lamarr as their women. The supporting cast of this Jack Conway-directed gem includes Frank Morgan, Lionel Atwill, and Chill Wills. Bonuses are a color cartoon, a B&W documentary short, and a theatrical trailer.

John Lee Mahin was one of Clark Gable's favorite screenwriters. Mahin wrote BOOM TOWN, eight years earlier wrote RED DUST (1932), and in 1953 did MOGAMBO, the Technicolor remake of RED DUST. I like RED DUST more because of Jean Harlow, but Gable is wonderfully cast as a big game hunter in Africa in John Ford's MOGAMBO. Filmed on location with gorgeous color, this is a love triangle between Broadway showgirl Ava Gardner (in the Harlow role) and married Grace Kelly (in the Mary Astor role). Romance and adventure blend superbly in a superbly cast movie. The distinguished cinematographers are Robert Surtees and David Lean's Freddie Young. The sole bonus here is a theatrical trailer.

I know, where are GONE WITH THE WIND and MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY? GWTW is literally its own boxed set now, and I added BOUNTY from old videocassette. It is the greatest sea adventure of all time, impeccable cast, and superbly edited by Margaret Booth; I recommend it highly. As for IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT one year earlier, wrong studio. I don't believe Warner Home Video has access to Columbia releases. But picky, picky! You get six wonderful Clark Gable movie gems with a lot of bonuses, and you still watch more. Then go rent or buy BOUNTY and NIGHT! And THE MISFITS (1961), for that matter. And also buy the new 4-disk GWTW. Warners' CLARK GABLE: THE SIGNATURE COLLECTION is impeccable and gets my highest DVD boxed set rating.

4 out of 5 stars great star, great collection, .......2006-07-25

Six Gable classics, five of which available for the first time on dvd. Quality is excellent and packaging too : a perfect showcase for Hollywood's king of stars, here paired with some of his favorite leading ladies, Myrna Loy (Wife vs Secretary) Jean Harlow (Wife and China Seas), Joan Crawford (Dancing Lady) and Claudette Colbert (Boom Town).
What is missing from this collection are some of Gable's best films made while he worked for MGM, like Victor Fleming's masterpieces "Test Pilot" and "Red Dust". On the other side it would have been interesting to see some of Gable's work which has never been published at all: "After Office Hours" "Men in White" "Parnell" and early Constance Bennett starrer, the wonderful "The Easiest Way"...Maybe with the Constance Bennett and Myrna Loy collections?

4 out of 5 stars Clark Gable The Signature Collection.......2006-07-13

I enjoyed all of these old films except the Dancing Lady. What a bomb, Joan Crawford was "dull". I really enjoyed Boomtown.
I just can't stand Jean Harlow's voice but I realise the so called "type of girl of the day" had to appear brassy. I enjoyed Gable in all of the movies.

4 out of 5 stars The King finally gets his own .......2006-05-17

For fans of 'The King of Hollywood' this set will no doubt seem way overdue. The titles chosen for this collection vary in appropriateness for inclusion, the comedy 'Wife Vs. Secretary' is only a so-so film that is made worthwhile only by the quality of the cast ie Gable, Myrna Loy and Jean Harlow. Also with the long-lost Harlow, Gable stars in the sillier than silly 'China Seas' in which he plays a ship's captain.
Mogambo is a universally appreciated 1953 remake of an earlier Gable film (this time with Ava Gardner and Grace Kelly) in which he reprises his original role. A vast improvement of the original.
Dancing Lady is an underrated 1933 comedy classic with Joan Crawford in a change of pace comedic turn that she pulls off marvellously. When Gable slaps her butt after granting her a favour and she wistfully thanks him; priceless!
All in all this a set of classics that should please Gable's fans and those who just enjoy great vintage entertainment alike.

There may be a pair of impressive ladies in the cast, but don't be fooled--Boom Town is a cool love-hate buddy movie from the get-go. Clark Gable and Spencer Tracy are oil wildcatters who meet during a Texas strike, take an instant dislike to each other, go into business together, tussle over a woman, break up, reunite, etc., etc. The film spans years, and various parts of the continent, as each man gets rich and goes bust with regularity. Claudette Colbert, re-teaming with It Happened One Night co-star Gable, is the woman who comes between them, and Hedy Lamarr presents a more exotic temptation later on. Another star here is the dialogue by veteran screenwriter John Lee Mahin, which--despite the wild, credulity-bending twists in the story--is chockfull of salty, slangy talk. The early scenes in the Texas town are crammed with believable oil jargon and great period touches (such as an entrepreneur who charges money to walk on planks across a muddy street). Director Jack Conway (Saratoga) gets the roughneck appeal of the material, and a sequence involving an oil fire is a knockout. Gable and Tracy, who had worked together so memorably in San Francisco, are a terrific match: Gable is all straight-ahead gusto, declaiming every line, as Tracy underplays to crafty effect. Nice supporting parts for Frank Morgan and Chill Wills span the entire movie, which ends, curiously, in a courtroom and a speech about capitalism. --Robert Horton

    Description

Oil! The ebony lifeblood of American industry...and of mighty fortunes made and lost. In search of one of those black-gold fortunes, two bare-knuckle wildcatters dream, scheme, team up and square off in the make-or-break frenzy of a Texas Boom Town. In this pyrotechnics-filled film classic, the only things bigger than the adventure are the four stars: screen giants Clark Gable and Spencer Tracy as the oilmen and Claudette Colbert and Hedy Lamarr as the women in their tumultuous lives. As the foursome struggle through the personal upheaval of love and loyalties, wealth comes a gusher ? and a rig bursts into a screen-filling inferno that could turn dreams to dust. No wonder Boom Town boomed at the box office, too, as the biggest moneymaker of 1940.

Boom Town is a darn good movie about those maverick 'wild/catters' turned loose upon the tundra of those windswept plains of Oklahoma...you can read from other reviewers just how good this MGM vehicle generated...perfect casting makes this film what it is: Clark Gable-Spencer Tracy-Claudette Colbert-Frank Morgan and Chill Wills...ohh, ohh, best eye candy of all....luscious Hedy Lamarr...WoW...is she a head/turner or what!!...every scene she was in, she had my rapt attention...she was a headliner from her European roots filming in the Czech/Republic before those Nazis marched into Prague in 1939, thank goodness she emigrated and MGM put her under contract, no one and I mean no other female actress, can come close to this exciting actress who had.."IT"...oops, watch this wonderful movie [DVD] and see for yourself....Hedy-Hedy-Hedy.... :-)...SSGT CHRIS SARNO-USMC FMF

5 out of 5 stars Update for the Boom Town DVD by Rags to Riches Reviewer.......2006-07-07

The new DVD sharpens the film up considerably. The Theatrical Trailer is included along with a cartoon and Hollywood short that don't have much of anything to do with this great film. As before, I mentioned that I had hoped that all the film would be put back together and although this is a little better there is still some cutting, including the Oklahoma Indian Land Deal Peace Pipe smoking scene which is still missing here. This film was the biggest money maker in 1940. It won an academy award for special effects and deserved it. Why can't we have the whole production on film? Anyway, I still recommend the film for entertainment value. They don't make films for pure fun anymore but this was one of them.

3 out of 5 stars All Star Cast Does Not Equal Greatness.......2005-10-13

Boom Town is the story of two oil men who begin as friends but ruin their relationship over a girl. It is a 2 hour film that should have been done in less time. It tends to drag on and throw in unnecessary plot twists.

Clark Gable is a smart, tricky oil man who strikes it rich by stealing equipment. He plays his character just as he does most of his characters with a strength and arrogant confidence. He is certainly appealing, but he offers nothing new to the part.

Spencer Tracy is likable as the underdog in the friendship. His character is a hard-working man in love with a beautiful girl. When he finds that his girl loves his best friend, he becomes subtlety defeated and pathetic throughout without becoming comical. He is the best part of the film.

Claudette Colbert plays the woman the two men are in love with. She marries Gable's character and they have a son; she is hopelessly in love. However, most of her scenes are generic and simply adequate. She becomes more intriguing when she finds that her husband is cheating on her, but she is not outstanding.

Hedy Lamarr is gorgeous as the other woman whose disguise is working for her lover. Her scenes are brief, but she exudes a sophisticated sex appeal in each of them. Her part truly is not necessary in the film. The fact that Gable's character is having an affair could have simply been alluded to.

    5 out of 5 stars Hawks + Cukor.......2005-03-16

I loved it, but I have to agree with the other reviewer who said that something gets lost when Clark Gable decides to go to New York and moves Claudette Colbert and little Jack with him.

The fun of the first part of the picture is replaced by an agonizing melodrama, which I also like, but it could have been two different pictures. The first movie would tell all about Gable and Tracy's friendship and their rivalry over Colbert--a kind of Howard Hawks male bonding movie. The key scene in this one would be the hotel room in the "boom town" in which Tracy and Gable strip to their underwear and Gable starts calling Tracy "Shorty," a nickname he hates but he loves to have Gable call him. The second film is more of a George Cukor story, for once Hedy Lamarr enters the picture as a Dutch lobbyist, this gives Claudette Colbert a whole lot more to worry about than scrubbing oil stains off Gable's overalls. Watching this picture recently I found myself more involved with Hedy Lamarr's role than I had been previously. She's not "brash" and "American" like the others actors (yes, I know Colbert is French but she has that American buzz thing going on) and she's languorous and moody, speaking of herself modestly as a "high class eavesdropper." But she's far from a bad actress, she's a bit more subtle than the other three (not to mention such certified hams as Chill Wills and Frank Morgan). Lamarr's scenes convince you that she was actually a very smart girl, didn't she invent the submarine or something in real life? You can see her brain turning over every possibility in Gable's long, lanky frame, and the glint in his dark eyes.

5 out of 5 stars Rags to Riches Four Times over and more!.......2003-12-18

Boom Town is entertainment. This movie was made in 1940 and is based on a short story. It begins with a partnership/friendship between Gable & Tracey as Big John McMasters & John Sand. The underlying philosophy in the movie is meant to show that no matter how much money you have you were still happier when things were tough! Each man earns and loses about 2 to 3 fortunes apiece. I have lived long enough to have seen the complete movie before our modern day censors got to it, so I can tell you that you cannot get an uncut edition of this movie and this VHS is NO exception. They removed the Indian peace pipe smoking scene when McMasters(Gable) signs a land deal with Oklahoma indians.(pretending that people never smoked.) This subtle cutting is done to a lot of old films and is really silly. Also the "melting" scenes with the sad horn music when people lose all their money have been cut out also. The only one left in is when Compton United goes broke in the oil war with McMasters. Curiously we DO get to see the US Government prosecution of Oil barons and not necessarily in favorable light. This film also takes a shot at the IRS and complains about taxation! (Where are the censors for this stuff?) Anyway, Frank Morgan is great in this work as Luthur Aldridge and young Chill Wills is excellent as a deadly crack shot deputy who just wants to be a ranch cook. The Oil fire scenes received an Academy award for effects and it was top notch for 1940. Girls invade and cause a lot of trouble between McMasters and Sand and their ability to make money but everything comes clean and happy in the end. Well worth a view but please.... if the DVD ever comes out put ALL the film back together!

This has meaning to me as I was in Marana, AZ during the filming of this movie and got to meet Lou Gosset Jr. who is the finest of actors and a real gentleman. Seeing first hand, the vintage WWII fighter planes in action was awsome, especially the Zero. We had a part in shooting holes in a piece of an airplane fuselage on the set. The movie itself was the best of the Iron Eagle Series in my opinion.

    5 out of 5 stars I am Chappy.......2004-05-07

Where to begin, when I saw this movie for the first time I just feel in love with Chappy. I have yet to see a movie that even comes close to the quality that this movie embodies. If Chappy were a real person I would marry him and have a life of action and romance in his jet, going really fast all over the world and blowing stuff up. I am not sure if Chappy should be hanging out with little boy though, that could be bad. You know what they say "16 will get you 20". You just have to watch this film, you too will be swept away by the passion that Chappy exudes. If I had a chance to save my daddy from the bad guys I would want Chappy by my side, if not sitting on his lap in the cockpit of his jet.

5 out of 5 stars Two classic "reluctant/unprepaired parent" films from the 80's.......2006-03-20

In MR. MOM Michael Keaton is a man with a wife and three kids-two elementary school-age boys and a baby girl. Their family is like the classic pre-women's lib-era one: he goes to work every day while she has all the child-care and house-cleaning responsibilities. Then Mike is suddenly laid off from his job. He decides to get another one, but his wife decides she wants to see if she can get one herself. As it happens, she gets hired first, and Mike finds the roles reversed: while his wife goes to work, he must stay home and take care of the kids. Probably my favorite scenes are: when he's at a supermarket and he loses track of one of his boys, and finds some other kid hanging on his shopping cart. He finds his own son standing by a woman with a shopping cart. He switches kids, and as he's walking away with his son he hears the woman call out,"I don't have a kid!" Also I like the scene where his baby daughter eats a whole can of chili. (Hope they have enough diapers on hand.)

BABY BOOM was one of two films to come out in 1987 that delt with the theme of a childless adult who suddenly becomes the reluctant parent of a baby girl. (The other was THREE MEN AND A BABY.) Here Diana Keaton plays J.C. Wiatt, a high-powered corprate woman whose life is irreversibaly changed when she suddenly inherits a baby girl, Elizabeth. Very funny and charming.

I bought this DVD without having seen others in this series. In my opinion, the babes are gorgeous, but then again, I'm into these kind of girls. If you like dark skin and nice round rear ends, you'll like the women too.

What I didn't like is that there was no substance to the video. No hostess. No stats like a models age, measurements, height etc. No interviews with any of the models. The whole video is just fine women strip dancing to unknown beats. I got bored pretty quick. There was nothing to keep my interest so, I kept watching the DVD in fast forward. I would suggest buying it only if you can find a used copy somewhere for a cheap price.

5 out of 5 stars Great! But definitely not for beginners. .......2007-03-22

OK, this is definitely NOT for beginners!!! Jared Grimes ABSOLUTELY knows his stuff (Broadway Dance Center). I believe they're going to re-release Henry Le Tang's beginner videos on DVD - be sure to check those out if you're a beginner.

A tap student who's not used to a teacher who scats the rhythms, and who doesn't always name the steps, might wind up feeling completely lost while watching this DVD. I feel if you're more into the hoofer-style stuff, rather than the "cutesy" dance school stuff, this DVD is for you!

The production style is very simple, but that's just fine by me. I feel like I'm watching a semi-private lesson with a nice small class.

I really admire the sound quality of the taps on this DVD. Taps are often not mic'ed correctly, but this DVD features nice clean tapping.

Mr. Grimes explains weight shifts very well, and how the steps fit together.

Overall, a nice solid product - if you are actually at the Int. to Int./Advanced level. This is NYC and Chicago advanced stuff. Major cities have a much higher level of difficulty in their tap classes - keep that in mind when looking for a tap instruction DVD.

P.S.: If you're just beginning tap - go for it! The world needs more tap dancers, at every level. :D xooxoxo

3 out of 5 stars Tap Tap Dee Dah!.......2006-09-25

This is a very challenging DVD. The choreography is not the hard part, the presentation is. Jared shows you the steps a few times but he doesn't really tell you the steps so you have to watch his feet and it is hard to pick up the steps. I will keep working at it but it is not easy to learn it. I would recommend the Shim Sham Shimmy with Leonard Reed or Bonnie Franklin's I Hate to Exercise but Love to Tap DVDs instead of this one.
