Customer Reviews:
so glad i got this!.......2007-06-25
As a runner, i was looking for some other activity to do to "cross-train" and decided to try this based on the many reviews.. i'm so glad i did. I am not at all flexible and this dvd makes it easy for someone with no flexibility to follow along and do the moves.. you definitely feel it in your muscles! I also like how it is seperated by 2 parts, so you can do either one if you are pressed for time. I also own Dance the Chakras and Fat Free Yoga which are good but i think i like this one the best!
I was skeptical.......2007-06-22
I'd tried other yoga DVDs, but never got the "rush" or "glow" that everyone talked about. I never understood what was so great about Yoga. Then I bought Ana and Ravi's Beginners & Beyond. I must say that I was blown away. As a fitness novice, I was easily able to do the first set. I could feel it in my abs the next day, though. I'm slowly building strength and doing more and more of the second set. I always feel rejuvenated after doing this DVD. It is well worth the money. In fact, I just ordered my second of Ana and Ravi's. I can't wait until their 2 news ones come out next month.

You must try this!.......2007-06-19
I used to avoid working out but Ana & Ravi make it so much fun it is positively addictive!! I started with their Fat Free Yoga and Dance the Chakras and right away got four more. Not only does this type of yoga give me tremendous energy but it makes me feel connected to my core much like pilates but with more movment and flow so that I really have discovered the "joy of moving!" My husband who had been away when I first began this practice, came home and did a double take - he said - wow you are positively glowing, what have you been doing!? He couldn't say enough about how youthful, relaxed, and glowy I looked. He also asked if I had lost weight. He was so happy for me. So I introduced him to Ana & Ravi's DVD's and now he is doing them as well.
As other reviewers said the first set of this DVD is wonderful for gently warming up the spine and energizing.
The second set is hatha type poses you may have seen before but Kundalini style which means they move.
It is really the most fun I have ever had working out which makes discipline easy. The great soundtrack is another plus.
Be warned - you will want to collect them all and there are about 15!
Very unique!.......2007-06-16
I just tried this DVD for the first time, and I really liked it! I've never tried Kundalini yoga before, and it feels much more natural than "conventional" yoga (sun salutations, etc). I've done many DVDs where the instructor is so obsessed with form, lining yourself up exactly, etc, that they become not fun because you're so focused on those little details. But this one does NOT do that. Ravi gives you a brief description of what to do, but he doesn't nitpick and keep reminding you to keep your limbs, etc at precise angles.
I did the 1st half, and the whole thing took place while sitting on the floor, and required little movement. Each exercise was interspersed with a meditation, yet I got very warm and my muscles were BURNING!
What I usually don't like about exercise DVDs is a flashy presentation, cheesy music, and condescending presenters. This DVD has none of these things! The narrator and music are relaxing, the set is very minimal (just a small carpet on the floor).
Essential Yoga.......2007-06-13
If you are starting a yoga pracitce you absolutely can't find better instruction anywhere than with Ana Brett & Ravi Singh. I recently purchased many DVD's to begin my own yoga practice after many years of other types of exercise. Ravi & Ana's DVD's are the ones that got me hooked.
Beginners & Beyond is a tape that I feel I will do for the rest of my life. The Rise & Spine series gently rocks and twists the spine. It stimulates the navel and is a tonic for posture and peace of mind.
The 5 Tbetan set is somewhat more intermediate but a beginner can easlily do the exercises - you just do less until you build strength. It is a brilliantly put together DVD. The instructions are very clear with plenty of modifications given for each exercise. This music is great and I really appreciate how they get right into the workout without a lot of talking. This is an absolue 'must buy,' for your yoga and exercise DVD library.

The best thing about this prenatal yoga program is that there is a model for each trimester. Instructor Shiva Rea demonstrates each of the stretches and exercises for the first trimester, and two pregnant women show modifications for the second and third trimesters (they're even dressed in different colors for easy reference). This removes the self-doubt home-exercisers often have about the safety of certain moves--especially in that cumbersome final stage of pregnancy. Using gentle voice-over instruction, Rea and her assistants take viewers through a half hour of meditational stretches using blocks and chairs for support. She follows that up with 16 minutes of floor work: lunge pose, bridge pose, child's pose, plank pose--all with the necessary adjustments. She winds things up with a four-minute guided relaxation on her back--the traditional position--with the second-trimester woman on her side and the third on her side with one leg up on a chair. By including the different adaptations, Rea has made a program with the flexibility to carry an expectant mom through her entire pregnancy--and beyond, if she wishes. --Kimberly Heinrichs

Yoga.......2007-07-02
I purchased this dvd in preperation. I have taken up yoga for stress relief and overall health. We are trying to have a baby and I was looking for something that I could do while I was pregant without harming the baby. The dvd is very easy to follow and I am looking forward to putting it into practice in the coming months.
zzzzzzzzz.......2007-06-13
totally boring workout. Doesn't do anything for me and I find it way too slow.
Gentle workout.......2007-06-07
With the modifications, this yoga session wasn't too strenuous, and I like being able to skip through the exercises I didn't feel like doing on a particular day. Having to move a chair in for exercises and then out of the way to do the next exercise is annoying, though.
For beginners, I would recommend watching the poses before trying them, maybe even a few times. The DVD assumes you'll be able to do the poses without a lot of instruction, which I appreciate once I've mastered a pose, but which might be confusing for a first-timer.
excellent yoga practice for mommies-to-be.......2007-06-01
This dvd was easy to follow, provided a great yoga practice, and will be great for mommies at any level. Having three instructors to watch depending on which trimester you're in is very helpful.
Love it!.......2007-05-29
I consider myself pretty fit, and I love this during pregnancy. Kept me flexible and helped me to relax before bed. My 5 year old did it with me.

A.M. Yoga for Beginners
"The morning is a precious time," says the narrator of A.M. Yoga for Beginners. "Just as the sun rises and falls, so do our natural rhythms. The morning is perfect time to open our bodies and center our minds." This 20-minute yoga practice with supple instructor Rodney Yee is the perfect way to start your day by energizing your body and calming your mind. Filmed on the beach at Maui at sunrise, the video starts with a 4-minute Conscious Relaxation focusing on breathing, then glides into a 14-minute series of yoga poses that are simultaneously relaxing and energizing. It ends with a 2-minute seated Guided Meditation to center your body and mind. Yee's instruction is detailed and gentle. The video is beautifully filmed: you watch the waves roll in as Yee demonstrates yoga poses on a sandy beach. The yoga practice awakens and stretches your muscles gently, leaving you balanced and focused. "Yoga is the foundation of my day," says Yee. "A few minutes in the morning will help give meaning to your day." --Joan Price
P.M. Yoga for Beginners
"The evening is the perfect time to calmly transition between being active and being quiet," says Patricia Walden, instructor of P.M. Yoga for Beginners. "One of the greatest gifts yoga has to offer is deep relaxation." This 20-minute program is designed to balance, calm, and revitalize you at the end of the day. It starts with centering poses: gentle stretches bringing awareness and quiet to your senses. Next are standing poses to release tension, increase circulation, expand the lungs, and help you breathe more deeply. Next, forward bends cool the body and bring quiet to the nervous system. The final restorative poses are so relaxing that you may fall asleep. Walden tells you not only how to do the poses, but what you should feel, and how to quiet your body and your mind. Instruction is soothing and explicit. Although this video is aimed at beginners, seldom are modifications given for the less flexible novice, so if any pose causes discomfort or seems impossible, don't push beyond your personal comfort level. The video was filmed on the windswept sands of Death Valley. --Joan Price
Customer Reviews:
Yoga.......2007-07-02
I recently purchased this dvd because I had to replace my VHS copies of these programs. I started yoga when I had knee surgery to help gain mobility back in my leg and realized rather quickly the other benefits of practicing yoga. This is a great program for those who are just starting out. The AM is easy to follow and the poses are not very hard to do. The PM was a little harder for me but you will be amazed at how quickly your flexability increases as you go.
My Favorite!.......2007-06-05
I began Yoga with this DVD and absolutely love it! I am now working my way into the intermediate level, but still use this DVD everyday and just push myself harder each time I work out. The best thing about this DVD is the timeframe of each workout. The morning workout is 15 minutes, and the PM is 20 minutes. I have other DVDs that I enjoy doing Yoga to, but because they run 60-90 minutes I find it hard to work them into my busy schedule. I always have and make time to at least do this DVD. I just purchased the Weight Conditioning AM/PM, not because I need to lose weight but because I would like to mix it up a bit with some new short routines. I highly recommend this for any beginners just getting into Yoga or other people like me who need something worthwhile but not time consuming.
Light workouts.......2007-05-14
These are pretty light workouts, about 20 minutes each, so if you are looking to build up a sweat you better check out Rodney Yee's Power Yoga DVD's. However, these are excellent exercises for starting up in the morning or winding down at the end of the day when you don't feel like doing a total workout. I particularly like the PM workout, which offers more stretches and relieves more knots from the course of the day.
A.M. and P.M. Yoga for Beginners .......2007-05-10
A great DVD for the beginner through advanced students. This DVD provides an ultimate start and end to each day. 15 minutes of stretching that improves your total quality and performance in yoga. I combine the A.M. workout with other Yoga DVDs as the warm-up to better enhance my Yoga workout.
PM Better.......2007-05-08
I read many of the reviews here before purchasing it so I expected the
Am section to be good and the PM very unusable as everyone said. I was
surprised then to find the PM so much better then the reviews said. The
Am section left me feeling sleepy like I want to go back to bed. The PM
is energizing. The poses are held longer so you actually feel something
- though I wish for still longer! I suggest switching the Am & PM
section. I think this may work better.
One pet peeve: wish they did not move so fast between exercises. This
is my second Rodney Yee DVD and the other one left me frustrated as well
in this respect. I find myself always playing catch up and the twisting
to look at the screen upsets my alignment and equilibrium and does not
relax me.
I do like how they explain how to use props and you get to do just that!

Power yoga "demands your attention," says instructor Rodney Yee. He leads a challenging, constantly progressing series of poses, one flowing into the next, integrating breath, movement, tension, and relaxation. The poses include Sun Salutation, standing poses, forward bends, back bends, twists, and arm balances. The first poses are fairly easy, and with each repetition of the series, Yee adds on more difficult movements, extending the series without pausing. You're encouraged to do as much of the series that fits your level, up to the entire 65-minute workout if you're an experienced yoga practitioner. Although you can begin at any level, some familiarity with yoga is recommended. The Hawaiian setting is gorgeous and inspiring. This is an excellent yoga workout that you can grow with, adding on more as you get stronger. --Joan Price
Customer Reviews:
The Best of The Best.......2007-06-20
I purchased this DVD three years ago and, although I own many yoga DVDs, "Power Yoga: Total Body Workout" and "Total Energy Yoga," another Yee DVD, are the ones to which I keep returning. "Power Yoga" is, as advertised, an excellent, total body workout -- albeit not one for beginners -- with just the right amount of instruction and no irritating "pep talks" or celebrity prattling: in other words, real yoga.
Most positions are held for 30 seconds, although a few are held for shorter periods of time and one --upward bow -- is repeated three times in a row. Sufficient time is permitted for transfer from one position to the next, even if, in the beginning, a practitioner cannot maintain the "flow" and needs to walk from one position to another. In my view, Yee is, along with Shiva Rea, the best yoga instructor making DVDs, and "Power Yoga" is his best DVD, overall.
One additional note: Recently, I have been employing this yoga practice and Yee's "Total Energy Yoga" along with physical therapy to treat a "frozen shoulder". My physical therapist is impressed by the progress that I have made using these yoga DVDs. While I would never suggest that anyone -- especially someone with an injury -- try an exercise DVD without first consulting his or her doctor, I have to say that yoga and, specifically, Rodney Yee, has worked for me.
excellent workout.......2007-06-13
This is a great yoga workout. It's quite strenuous, and I'd recommend it for advanced beginners or intermediate yoga practitioners. The set is beautiful and the cues are perfect. If you just started yoga, I wouldn't recommend starting with this dvd, but if you are already fairly fit and familiar with yoga, this is a great choice.
Another A++++.......2007-06-11
Easy to follow, wonderful techniques, and spectular aiding in body tension. I also enjoy the muscle building the video provides. I has been only a few weeks and I already see and feel the differance. Thank You Rodney!! ;)
Awesome DVD, great challenges.......2007-06-07
This DVD is great. It pushes you and yet allows you to make modifications were necessary. It is an hour long and really makes you sweat if you push yourself deep into the poses. Clear visuals and great instruction. I love this DVD and if I end up skipping my gym workout this is the first DVD I grab at home. WONDERFUL!
~andrea
Intense!.......2007-06-05
This is an intense, long workout that is "do-able", but be prepared! I am a beginner but practice everyday with Rodney Yee's AM/PM Yoga for Beginners (love that DVD!) and other DVDs and am working my way up to intermediate level. I try to do the more intense and time consuming Yoga a few times a week, when I can fit it into my schedule. Because this one is the longest of my videos, I don't get to do it too much since there never seems to be enough time in the day. I also like to hold the stretches a little more than is allowed in this video. I affectionately refer to this DVD as the "boot camp/drill sergeant" workout because its a constant stream of instructions and movement. This is a good video for someone who is looking for more of an actual workout and not so much of the relaxation and long hold periods of stretches. Is one of the only workouts that makes me sweat!

These are exercises anyone can do, but you will really feel the burn. Segment 3: No Impact Aerobics really gets your circulation moving. Excellent Fun Cardio Wake Up for the AM!!!.......2007-07-03
I love to do cardio in the morning because I find it is the best way for me to start my day. As much as I love yoga, there are few that I feel energize me enough to do first thing in the morning - Ana & Ravi's Fat Free Yoga (and their Dance the Chakras) are two that I have found that do get me revved up and going in the morning and satisy my morning cardio requirements completely.
What better way to wake up in the morning!
I did this DVD this morning and feel wonderful!!!!! What a great way to start a Monday!!! As usual, no matter how grumpy or stiff I am when I begin these sessions I end up feeling energized, alive and blissfully happy!
5 Stars for sure.....do I hear 6?.......2007-06-26
I have been meaning to explore yoga more closely for awhile, but never came across a teacher who inspired me to run the full gamut after the first or second time.
Since coming across Ana and Ravi's DVD, this sentiment belongs in the past. Despite the fact that today was my first day of exercising with the entire program, I'm hooked. Here are the goodies:
1. Ana's serene presence.
2. Ana's well built strength.
3. Ravi's soothing and encouraging tone.
4. The music was well chosen for these exercises. Stimulating without
being overpowering. I enjoy the beat...sets a wonderful tone.
5. The Mind/Body/Spirit connection is a winning combination --
I love the trio emphasis of getting the body well tuned, resetting
the mind to a state of calm, and most of all, nurturing the spirit
within. It all comes together beautifully.
6. Oh, did I mention variety yet? There's no way you're getting bored
during the routine.
I rarely post reviews on Amazon compared to the amount of reading I do.
I've NEVER posted one for an exercise DVD.....
I'll be back to update after a few weeks to let y'all know my progress.
Tough but enjoyable.......2007-06-25
It's a tough workout, especially when you first begin. But it helps you sweat and you feel like you've done a lot after. Not bad.
Great Workout -Balanced & Effective.......2007-06-21
I love this workout. Love the music. Love the fun factor! Love Anas smile. Love the poses. Love Kundalini Yogas stretching and tightening effect on my body and love love love all the breath and movement.
The dvd starts right off - no commercials like most yoga DVD's seem to hit you with these days(my pet peeve). There are four different sections (approx. 19 min each), and the DVD finishes off with two excellent meditations. The workout sections are titled: Start your Engines, Fight Fire with Fire, No Impact Aerobics, and Your Life Is In Your Own Glands (my fave are the 2nd and 3rd) but, really, they are all excellent.
There are pauses betwen some of the more strenuous exercises where you can catch your breath, other than that you generally keep moving. Some of the poses seem simple at first, but they are challenging! It's been a long time since a yoga DVD made my arms and legs feel like rubber!
The great thing about this DVD is that you can stop at the end of any segment and skip to closing meditation. And each sequence is a workout in itself. What you do is up to you. I also really appreciate the pace and sequence of the Ana/Ravi workouts I have been doing. It helps me to feel the effects happening while I am working out and helps me to relax and release my tension.
I also have their Beginners & Beyond, Ultimate Stretch Workout, Yoga Bliss Hips and Dance the Chakras. Every single program is excellent. I will get their new ones as well.
Relaxed paced cardio style yoga (kundalini).......2007-06-14
Everyone wrote great reviews. I will only add I love the music... it's not dance music, but relaxed, but great beat so it's never too light. During parts you're doing the cardio, it has a great beat almost like Engima, but immediately changes to light, serene, slow during the meditations/rests.
I love you can always here Ana's breath to know when to breathe when you get distracted & forget. I love how Ravi talks, but never constant, but with great affirmations & telling you how each exercise helps your glands, organs, muscles, posture, mood, emotions, etc. to keep you going.
Though it's relaxed paced, he encourages you to go at your own pace, some of these exercises will increase your heart rate & good workout even if you just followed the movements & no breathe like an aerobics gym workout.
Because of the relaxed pace & breaks, this is good for anyone especially beginners who can get discouraged easily.
Some of the moves would be 1 legged locust, very low boat, bow, all whie breathe of fire (panting like puppy). Another is squatting & then to standing fwd bend & back down back/forth... Tehre are several that are sitting relaxed & moving arms up/down or moving neck side to side, or moving the torso side to side. These all really stretch out your various joints & since you should only go as fast or fast as you are able, not over push yourself, you'll be fine. There are also some ab building exercises as well.
The first hour & 8 min is the workout with about 10 second - 2 min breaks in between each exercise. The last 17 min is meditation to relax to. The chapter choices are great and during the workout, Ravi lets you know you can either continue or go to the menu & choose a meditation to end the workout.
After doing only 40 min of the exercises & no meditation, my skin was already more clear, less blotchy & my eyes looked clearer. My mood was also much more calm/relaxed. It took until the next day at a friend's house to notice I was breathing was significantly slower & deeper which is what was helping me to remain calm even though I was in a happy excited mood, because I tend to breathe kinda jerky & fast along with my jumpy mood normally. This lasted a couple days.

Yoga instructor Barbara Benagh has practiced and taught yoga for nearly 35 years. She discovered yoga while living in England and began teaching there. She moved to Boston and opened The Yoga Studio on Beacon Hill in 1980.
In addition to her local classes Barbara teaches yoga seminars throughout the US and internationally. She is a regular contributor of articles to Yoga Journal magazine. She has several audio CDs of live classes available as well as DVDs, the latest being Yoga for Beginners released by Body + Soul magazine, and Yoga for Stress Relief that includes a discussion on meditation from the Dalai Lama.
Barbara was kind enough to answer some questions from Amazon.com about this unique line of yoga DVDs.
How are these DVDs different from other yoga DVDs?
I was drawn to working with Bodywisdommedia because they produce DVDs they are interactive. Rather than a "one size fits all" single routine that is typical of most products, these DVDs offer choice, allowing the user to customize and change their yoga practice to suit their needs. No two persons are the same so the ability to change your practice - easing shoulder tension one day and an invigorating morning wake up the next - come as close as possible to allowing you to address your individual needs at home. Not only do people have different physical needs, but they have different time constraints as well. If you have only 20 minutes, there is a practice for you but there are longer practices as well (some as long as 90 minutes) that address the total body/mind connection. The sheer number of yoga sequences offered on each of these DVDs is a first. They are incredibly comprehensive.
How were you able to get the Dalai Lama involved?
This project dovetailed perfectly with the Dalai Lama's message that modern stress is one of the greatest obstacles to our mental happiness and physical wellbeing. Because we are long-time sincere practitioners, having a 30-minute lecture of the Dalai Lama teaching how to meditate on the Yoga for Stress Relief DVD was a perfect fit. Bodywisdommedia also has a broader relationship with the Office of Tibet and are releasing historic lectures with "A Path to Happiness" being the first one.
How will potential buyers of these DVDs know which one is right for them?
The titles are very indicative of what appears on the DVD and therefore a good guide. I really enjoyed making Yoga for Stress Relief because it is incredibly relevant. We strove to make the sequences accessible to as many people as possible, whether they are a beginner or long time practitioner. Yoga for Beginners is a great, non-threatening place to get started and includes lots of sound technique developed over my 30 years as a yoga teacher. Power Yoga for Every Body is a bit more challenging taking you from the beginning level and gradually progressing to much more demanding routines.

It works!.......2007-06-30
I was a sceptic about learning and practicing Yoga from a DVD, but not anymore. She has done a really good job in producing this DVD. The words she uses really helps understand the concept and technique.
Very mellow yoga and great for relieving tension........2007-06-22
I love this DVD. It is by far the best overall relaxing yoga sessions you can find. The segments are pieced together and are repeated in different sequences depending on your need. They are very Yin Yoga like / very gentle yoga sessions. Barbara Benagh leads you through the sessions and has a calm, soothing voice. She reminds you to breath, slow and steady. You get a total of 20sessions on the DVD. It is beautifully filmed at Half Moon Bay Resort in Antigua (much better than a boring yoga studio!). My only critic is that I would have liked to have a matrix where I could create my own sequencing from all the individual segments (like Shiva Rea's DVDs). Also, they should have published a booklet describing each session with the DVD, so here's my version ;o) Print this out and keep with your DVD. I highly recommend this DVD, it is well worth the money.

Since everyone wrote great reviews, especially Doctor Beth & YogaKat, I'll just add my 2 cents quick.
If you're looking for a moderate or fast paced yoga workout, you won't find it here. This is for muscle pulls, muscle issues, organ troubles, and stress. Times when you want to be careful, something slow & easy & don't want to move around much.
Some of the routines show each pose for 4-6 min each, the fastest ones hold each for 1-2 min. It's set on a lovely beach. The narrator has a very soothing voice that will help guide any newcomer to yoga, always give modifications, or those who need reminders of of how not to cheat, or which muscles the pose will work on. She speaks throughout each pose & those who have been doing yoga for a while will not gain anything from the narration.
If you are looking for active yoga this is not for you!!!!.......2007-06-14
The instruction on this one is careful and detailed and although you can feel very safe doing this DVD, I think this would be most appropriate for an elderly person. I also think this might have much value as an extreme restorative practice. Personally I expected more of an active yoga workout. The routines are very slow and there is not too much actual movement. I kept pushing the menu buttons to find an exercise that actually moved because that is what really relaxes me. I personally believe the most important thing for staying stress free and relaxed is to stay active. The various sequences involve a lot of breathing on the back. I know breathing is very important for relieving stress so this is probably a good thing. Unfortunately this type of yoga which moves so slowly seems to cause me more stress than it alleviates! This is entirely a personal assessment, but this is the type of yoga I dread. It is very boring to me. The other reviews are quite good though, so I'm sure this is just me. This DVD is filmed in a typically (for yoga) tropical place, and features very typical, very uninteresting (yoga) music. I think the instructor is very thorough and well intentioned so I don't want to seem too hard on this. I guess the bottom line is that it's not for everyone.
what I have been looking for.......2007-06-06
I have been looking for a yoga dvd like this for such a long time and I am so happy I ordered this one! Most dvds end in a short 1 minute relaxation practice, but this one really emphasizes relaxation of body, mind and breath throughout all of the practices.
Each practice is easy to complete (you don't have to be super athletic to do them). They also have a profound impact. I get relaxed just watching the dvd, doing it is even better. Highly recommended for someone looking to connect with their body and take a chance at living a life that moves a little slower.

Comprehensive but user-friendly, reasonably challenging but accessible to a variety of levels, Yoga Shakti is inarguably one of the best yoga products on the market--no small achievement when one considers just how many of them there are. Instructor-creator Shiva Rea, a California-based yogi of considerable international renown, specializes in vinyasa yoga (a vinyasa is essentially a series of flowing, connected poses, incorporating breath and movement and cultivating heat, strength, flexibility, and balance). Four complete practices are presented, ranging in length from 42 to 85 minutes and including Basic Flow (for beginners), two more vigorous Solar Flow sequences, and a Lunar Flow sequence falling somewhere in the middle in terms of degree of difficulty; familiar poses like sun salutations, forward bends, lunges, twists, and inversions are featured, although Rea adds many of her own touches (such as the four "dancing warrior" sections, sun salutation variations designed for intermediate users and focusing on hips, backbends, and so on), and there are also sections devoted to pranayama (breathing exercises) and meditation. It's all good, but the principal innovation of Yoga Shakti is the "yoga matrix," which allows users to customize and program their own workouts, drawing on portions of any or all of the four sequences to create series of various lengths and levels of intricacy (some guidelines are suggested for the less experienced) and thus keep their practices fresh and evolving. One can also do the various workouts with or without the instruction audio track on (the Indian-New Age-flavored music is quite good, and usually unobtrusive), and there's even an entire second disc, containing interviews, additional instruction, travel footage (filming took place primarily in India and the Maldive Islands), and more. All in all, Yoga Shakti is most impressive. --Sam Graham
Customer Reviews:
YOGA LICIOUS!.......2007-06-08
This is the breast! Best yoga DVD ever! You're always able to change it up and and the visuals and instructions are flabulous! Perfect for beginners and intermediate yoga lovers.
Good concept, but I'm very disappointed.......2007-06-06
Let me start by apologizing for offending the tastes of Shiva Rea fans. I'm not really sure how this review could be SO unhelpful but keep a-voting, I stand by my opinion. This really is a nice concept, I like that you can choose your own workout or follow a set workout. This DVD also has some gorgeous cinematography. The main problem for me is Shiva, I personally don't enjoy her style of teaching at all. The poses she includes in this workout are not ones that I enjoy or find challenging. Another main gripe I have is that when you build your own workout it has poor "flow", and there is a pause for titling between each set section. The meditation at the end is short, and her words are nonsensical and make me want to laugh out loud. I never reach for this DVD and I can't see myself growing to love it. I realize this is a very popular DVD, which is why I purchased it, and that many of you will find my review unhelpful but it's just my honest opinion. I hope it helps someone! :)
Way Too Fast.......2007-05-30
I used to do a yoga class and I thought this tape would be fun at home. It is way to fast on all the moves. All it is is a woman on a beach doing yoga with NO instruction on what she's doing. I wish I could return it.
Shiva Rea- Yoga Shakti.......2007-05-28
I loved it! Well planned, nice flow, a pleasure to watch and practice with.
Lunar Series good for siactic and putting me to sleep.......2007-05-25
There are four series put together, and multiples you can put together with this new form of programing. The basic is too basic for me, but I love the other choices, particularly the lunar. Don't be in a hurry though, the series are long, and it's up to you to adjust them if you want.

Great Workout Yoga Booty Ballet!.......2007-06-28
This is well worth the money the workouts are fun, great for people who like dancing and yoga and you will feel the burn trust me! I like that they use real people men and women in the routines and not perfect models with perfect bodies.
Wasn't what I expected.......2007-06-27
Typical As Seen On TV quality.
Lots of marketing to sign up for other programs and merchandise.
Some may really enjoy it, it just wasn't for me.
5 high energy, fun workouts.......2007-06-27
I really enjoy this YBB set, containing 5 workouts. If you've had a little dance experience I think it helps to catch on to these workouts, but even if not, practice will help you keep up. I find the workouts very fun, pretty fast-paced. They may be frustrating if you don't give yourself a break... you can learn some fun dance moves to use elsewhere, too! The women on the videos have beautiful bodies worth aspiring to, they are strong and lean. Since this system contains 5 workouts, by buying this product I have had several weeks of workouts that I haven't gotten bored with. I like the integration of cardio-dance, strength ballet and yoga stretching. They all compliment eachother very well. You can break a great sweat on the advanced workout!
Wow what a difference.......2007-06-14
This was a very fun and challenging type of work out. It deffinitly helps with stress. The two girls on there are crazy and make you laugh just sitting there watching it. They have alot of energy and get you in the mood even when you feel at your gloomist. I couldn't have spent my money more wiser.
Sincerely
Danielle

It's more of the same from Shiva Rea with Fluid Power - Vinyasa Flow Yoga, and considering the quality of her previous DVD releases, that's a very good thing. With six pre-set practices (three intermediate "long flows" and three "short flows"), ranging from less than 30 minutes to nearly two hours, Fluid Power--described by Rea as a means to explore "the wave movement that is the reality of our fluid, quantum body" in order to "enhance circulation, longevity, and creativity and to satisfy amphibious longings," whatever that means--this is Rea's longest and most detailed presentation to date. Those familiar with her Yoga Shakti and Yoga Trance Dance will recognize certain elements from those programs here; Fluid Power generally combines Shakti's somewhat more traditional approach (e.g., poses that are held for several breaths) with the kind of creative expression fostered by Trance Dance, which favors constant, flowing movements (in the familiar downward facing dog, for instance, Rea encourages steady undulations of the spine, referred to as "circular wave patterns," as opposed to keeping the back long and straight). While there are many asanas that will certainly be recognizable to most anyone who practices hatha yoga (the cobra, bow, upward dog, chaturanga, handstand, and pigeon are just a few of them), Rea also brings her distinctive style to the practice; her "Dancing Warrior 1008," featured in the longest and most challenging pre-set sequence ("Backbend Flow"), uniquely combines backbends, twists, lunges, and more. All of this will take some getting used to. Rea notes that these practices are designed for "experienced beginners and intermediate practitioners," and everyone is advised to view the sequences before attempting them. Meanwhile, the "Yoga Matrix," with which users can customize their practice by combining elements from all six pre-set sequences in any order they choose, is one of the most appealing features of this and all Shiva Rea DVDs. Also as before, the cinematography is gorgeous (filming again took place at New Mexico's White Sands National Park), and the music is evocative but relatively unobtrusive. A second disc includes alignment tips for some poses, information about fluid vinyasa techniques, and comments by various experts about yoga and, yes, even quantum physics. --Sam Graham

CAN'T DECIDE.......2007-06-06
I can't decide whether I like this yoga DVD or hate it. There are some aspects that are desirable, such as the versatility of being able to create new routines with the "matrix" feature. Not for beginners, I like that it has advanced positions and the routines aren't slowed down by "teaching" how to do poses, because that can get tiresome after the first time. Also, the music is soothing as well as her voice. Many times I've tossed a DVD because the voice is annoying (especially after the 50th time).
That said, I find myself rolling my eyes every time she explains things using Sanskrit terms and Asana names (or whatever it's called). I know yoga is based from it, but I don't care to know the language because it all sounds Greek to me and I have NO IDEA what she's saying! Also, I've been giving it my best shot at trying to get into the chanting parts, but all I can think of is how stupid it sounds. Not my style, I guess.
I've been practicing for 5 years now, and have bought many yoga DVD's and I seem to return back to Brian Kest's Power Yoga series because nothing apparently can compare. I thought I would give it another shot and try this one on for size. I wouldn't mind the "flowy" hippy like dance moves (it does loosen up the body nicely), however some of the moves are confusing and her instructions, even the non-Sanskrit ones, are even more confusing to follow. I find myself constantly looking back at the TV to see what pose she's doing and that's where I notice many of the camera angles are unclear to see what's going on. Most of the workout I find myself to be frustrated and annoyed, which is the opposite of what should be happening!
I will still give it a few more tries to see if can warm up to it, but I'm guessing it's back to the tried and true Kest series.
Dance mixed with yoga.......2007-05-20
When I first watched this I was very confused. I wasn't sure what this was or what Shiva Rea was trying to accomplish with her trance dance infused yoga routines that are completely foreign to someone use to practicing the typical poses on most DVDs and in most studio classes. After trying it a couple times it did have an interesting energy to it that comes from the improvisational spirit and the release that the muscles experience from the undulating movements through out the vast array of practices that can be created with this DVD. However I found myself dizzy most of the time, struggling to look at the TV screen to see what exactly she was doing since verbal guidance through the poses is not enough in this case. I think this is a good DVD for someone more interested in dance combined with yoga rather than a yoga practice. I find comfort and inspiration in the familiarity of the poses when I practice and this DVD did not have that familiarity, it is uncharted territory which can be more confusing than relaxing- and relaxation is the goal of my practice.
Connect with your true self.......2007-05-10
This workout is just perfect. The movements are in touch with what we are-water. I love the rolling, circular movements, I feel so in tune with the universe, so free when I do this DVD. It also helps with sore muscles and any other physical or emotional pain I happen to have. The fact that you can tailor your own practice is a great bonus. I highly recommend this DVD and I alternate it with Ana Brett and Ravi's DVD's.
