Hands down my favorite Comstock title (and all of his titles are first rate).......2007-04-19

Tony Comstock is the creator and master of a new genre of films: explicit couples' sexuality documentaries. Comstock states that "intent to arouse" is often cited as the dividing line between art and porn. Of all the emotions a director might hope to induce in an audience, arousal remains the last taboo, and Tony Comstock takes it head-on.

I bought all of Comstock's collection at the urgings of the editorial team over at the Feddy & Eddy website. Comstock is a genius, and Damon and Hunter is my hands-down favorite of all his titles. For reference, his other titles include Marie and Jack (Comstock's first film, with married pornographic actors), Xana and Dax (an experienced NY blonde and her younger Brazilian lover), Matt & Khym (a 30-something married couple), and Ashley & Kisha (a lesbian couple). Damon and Hunter is the story of two gay male lovers, and I encourage viewers of any sexual orientation to pick this one up. I'm a heterosexual female and I can assure you that both my partner and I enjoyed this one.

Damon and Hunter found one another as roommates in New York City, and started a sexual relationship before their romantic one. One is a Canadian from a family in which they gays outnumber the straights, and the other was raised as a tried-and-true Southern Christian. In the first half of the film, they discuss their love life, attraction, relationship history, and personal turn-ons in frank terms. Who actually doesn't enjoy anal action during stimulation? Was one worried about handling the size of the other? What are their rules for outside guests in the bedroom? The second half of the movie is movie is pure intimate action.

The DVD comes complete with a bonus track showing alternate camera angles, including an optional audio commentary from Tony and Peggy Comstock. The camera angles would be of interest to cinematography students, but for the casual fan, I recommend sticking with the terrific editing job Comstock did for the main film. The audio commentary contains insights about how Comstock finds his subjects (I guess you can find someone to do anything on Craigslist) and his movie-making strategy. Buy this film to enjoy again and again, both as a documentary piece and as erotic cinema, and look to the audio commentary and previews of other titles when you want to go deeper.

the characters differences of opinion are expressed in non-sequitor emotional outbursts rather than thought-out points. sex is only talked about as an abstract concept so they're not really saying anything about it. oh yeah and i almost forgot the reason i rented it in the first place, i thought it would be funny, and it really isn't. "backdoor. frontdoor. sidedoor." is the only bit that made me laugh.

an excellent farce.......2007-02-09

In the midst of my promise to watch as many Oscar-nomiated films before the Academy Awards on February 25, 2007, I watched this little gem. What is it about high school movies that makes them so compelling? This movie is a very entertaining farce on the abstince-only sex education. Peer pressured to sign a pledge card to remain virginal until marriage, one girl finds a voice to question the scare tactics and the validity of abstinence-only sex education. Anyone with an IQ greater than 10 can see that in a realistic society, abstinence-only education is doomed to fail. This is totally not what I expected from a movie from MTV.

I think Tony Danza is a SUPERB, VERY TALENTED FINE actor who hasn't gotten the credit he deserves for his talents. He has made several movies in addition to starring in tv sitcoms, in my opinion he is a total natural as an actor, this is a wonderful rare quality in actors today & this movie is just another fine example of his extraordinary talent. I personally enjoyed the movie not just because I'm a Tony Danza fan but I thought it was very well acted & am anxious to read the book tie-in!

CHRONICLE OF A SELF-PROCLAIMED PRISONER RIGHTS SPOKESMAN........2004-10-05

A book by Steve Bello is the basis for this product that relates of the incarceration in New York State prisons of Jerome "Jerry" Rosenberg, convicted for the homicide of two New York City policeman during a holdup, but who denies guilt as he was committing another robbery at the time, and of his refusal to be silenced that resulted in his being released from death row thanks to his discovery of a litigatory loophole. Rosenberg, a self-obsessed career criminal, refers to himself as "America's Greatest Jailhouse Lawyer", and although this will strike many as a somewhat dubious distinction, prisons are heavily populated with individuals poring over publications of the law, while Rosenberg actually does manage to catalogue specific abuses and instances of corruption within New York's justice and prison systems. Also released as TRUTH OR DIE, this Canadian-made film stars Tony Danza as the self-educated Rosenberg, and he tries hard to create a part, but he is worsted by general weakness in production values that bring forth a shallowly episodic structure marked by attempts to cover too many events and relationships while minimizing Rosenberg's legal strategies that save him from the electric chair, as well as his effort to arbitrate the 1971 Attica rebellion. There are good turns from Jon De Vries as a prison warden and Dan Lauria as a corrections department supervisor, Gene Reynolds directs capably and is lent solid support from the camerawork of Miklos Lente, the editing of Christopher Nelson and polished sound mixing is supplied by Douglas Ganton; therefore, accountability for the piece's overweening triteness must be attributed to a script that simply endeavours to cram too much into a documentary flavoured time component hampered by obvious budgetary limitations.
