This is such a lovely documentary it should have received much more attention. It was somehow, incorrectly, reviewed as a backlash to Michael Moore's movie because it came out at a similar time. This is not a political movie and it has nothing to do with the events of 9-11. In fact, all of the movie was shot before 9-11 occurred. It was not released earlier because of the extensive editing and because a distributor had not yet picked it up. I would recommend this delightful look at passions and businesses of everyday people across America.

America's Heart and Soul is a wonderful documentary of true Americana. It renews our love of country and the people who inhabit it. It lifts our spirits and gives us to realize that no matter the bad times we go through, there are more than enough good times and places and people to constantly restore our souls. We are taken from sea to shining sea to meet the people who reach for the stars and push the envelopes. From the Vermont farmer and his son to the soul singer/musicians in New Orleans and the oil fire fighters in Texas, we get a wonderful glimpse of the folks who prove day after day that America is still the land of the free and the home of the brave and that those who have dreams can see them come true, no matter the odds. It speaks to the heart and gives us pause. It entices us to rekindle our own dreams and realize what is really important in this life. And most of all, it makes us realize that America is still the greatest land of all. I recommend it for children and adults alike. A wonderful gift to bestow on friends and family. I happened to meet Dan Klennert in Elbe Washington, who is featured on this book and video. I was inspired and awed by his works. Disney has done an unbelievable job of finding unique, interesting and inspirational people throughout the United States. This book and video will just make you feel good.

The absolute best documentary about the vast differences in America from the language of New Orleans to the language of the mountain people in NC, and the wild, wild, west. This footage ofers places unseen by many including those who done extensive traveling. After seeing the beauty, color, and richness of the people within the greatess nation on God's green earth, the film leaves you with laughs, tears, and joy. You feel proud to be an american: part of such a great group of people. Another good thing about this film is for those who enjoy traveling, this will stir you up, make you excited, and ease your worries about staying inside the U.S. to travel because after you see the wonderful colors of mountains, streams, the praire, cowboys ridin the fences like they did a 100 years ago, the big cities and everything in between you'll be amazed that you are not making some travel plans to go see some of these places for yourself.

This is the kind of feel-good documentary that will leave you teary-eyed and longing for more human connection. The exquisite cinematography, and lilting, moving soundtrack, capture the essence of America and its people, be it those living in "Small Town USA," the "burbs," or on some rich, cultural urban island. The common thread is humanity, a shared sense of identity, history, goal-oriented struggle, family, and an unwavering optimism and hope for the future. Buy a copy for everyone you love or, better yet, gather all around the TV and watch it together. It was just what my husband and I needed one night to renew our faith in all that is uniquely American - our blended culture, our loyalty to God, country and family, our ties to our land and heritage, our rugged individualism, and our never-say-die dogged determination. This could bring flag waving and the Pledge of Allegiance back into style...

Incredibly awful remake of great classic.......2004-01-08

Blood and Sand was made twice before, in 1922 with Rudolph Valentino and 1941 with Tyrone Power. The first version was good but not excellent, but Tyrone's version was, mostly due to the lavish Technicolor and the excellent supporting cast. But this 1989 remake is absolutely ridiculous; it shouldn't have been made to begin with. None of the stars can save the plot, which is marred a thin, convoluted plot. So if you want to see this bullfighting story, do NOT get this version. Instead get the 1941 version with Tyrone Power, Linda Darnell and Rita Hayworth. You will not be disappointed. Trust me.

TOTAL WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!!!.......2003-03-25

I bought this film in anticipation of seeing the beautiful Sharon Stone in some really hot scenes....on this count it was a letdown, you don't see much of the gorgeous Ms Stone, certainly nothing like in Basic Instinct/Sliver/The Specialist.I was also expecting a brilliant storyline like the 1941 version with Tyrone Power,the alluring Rita Hayworth and Linda Darnell...again another terrible disappointment. Really dull plot, totally disjointed and bordering on the incoherent.Finally..the quality of the picture was poor with blurred colour and almost hazy images. Undoubtedly this DVD is the worst I've ever purchased....if it wasn't for the stunning Ms Stone and her sex appeal it probably should NOT have been inflicted on the movie market at all!!!

Disappointing DVD.......2002-01-03

Face it, This was a widescreen movie. On the DVD however, it has been encoded using 1.33:1, the tasteless TV format with only 2 sound channels. I did not read the technical details before i bought it. I think you should read the details. It is like watching a movie with good VHS resolution. nothing more! What have North Americans done to deserve censored DVD versions of European movies. They pay the same price and it is not for public use. Any DVD without 5.1 channel or DTS sound and without anamorphic widescreen dimensions i.e 2.25:1 should be avoided. The stunning beauty of young Sharon Stone makes up for these technical goofs.

This is truely a wonderful family movie. Walter Brennan plays the part of a father raising four children, but has his own ideas about how to run a farm. Natalie Wood is one of his daughters and joins the 4H club.

Amazingly beautiful movie.......2007-03-20

Although you'll be hard pressed to find this film in the States, it's well worth your effort. This is a beautiful, well-acted period drama with the creme de la creme of Quebecois actors. The French title gives more of an idea of the story, "A Man and his Sin" which, I think, gives the viewer a better sense of the direction and tone of the film as more than a mere love story- it's also a psychological drama. Despite the fact that it's decently scripted and well-acted, the storyline itself is a bit mundane - better than a lot of Hollywood twaddle, of course, but the appeal of the film is its execution, not its plotline.

First off, all of the actors give stellar performances. If you only know Roy Dupuis from his powerfully restrained portrayal of Michael in the series La Femme Nikita, you will be surprised and delighted to watch him emote with abandon in this film. He proves that, beneath his ethereally handsome face, he has acting chops which put him among today's best actors. Pierre Lebeau, whose character of Seraphine, could easily turn to a caricature, is believably and humanly evil. And, of course, the youthfully beautiful Karine Vanasse is compellingly heartbreaking as the object of these two savagely determined men's affections. Also featured is the lovely and talented Celine Bonnier who carries off of her supporting role with her usual elan.

Everything, from the outstanding score to the amazing cinematography, is perfectly balanced, and never overwrought. A wonderful feast for the eyes, ears, and heart.

Very highly recommended.

Hauntingly poignant!.......2005-10-03

What a wonderfully sad and amazing movie!

I saw it on CBC television, and it was so moving! Tragic story, yes, but so amazingly filmed and performed! My heart went out to Donalda. I won't spoil the movie for you, but watch it. The English subtitles are a must if you don't speak French (which I don't), but they aren't distracting, and you retain the emotions and timbre of the original actors' efforts.

This movie is absolutely horrible. It did not make me laugh, it did not make me care at all for the main character, and it did not entertain me. The only reasons to even watch this movie are that "End of the Line" by the Traveling Wilburys is played over the opening and closing credits, and George Harrison and David Byrne make cameos.

excellent cinematography and acting.......2003-12-05

This movie was really underated when it was released...the concept, direction (David Leland) and cinematography are all excellent. Jeff Daniels does a great job as the main character, and Allan Havey is hysterical as his best buddy. Look for a cameo appearance by David Byrne, of Talking Heads. Definitely worth checking out.
