3 out of 5 stars Pagan Virtues?.......2006-09-30

Although this movie does intentionally go about the task of teaching moral values to children, it might do this in a manner that is too "Pagan" for members of the Christian-right. And that is the one thing that I find appealing about this movie. It was refreshing to see moral values taught within the context of pre-Christian northern European mythology (featuring Gary Burgoff, Radar O'Reilly from "Mash," as a quasi-leprecaun). Of course, those behind the movie intended to sell moral virtues and not Pagan religion, but that's not really all that important from my point of view.

"Behind the Waterfall" was produced by a company called Feature Films For Families and is comparable to other movies from the same genre such as "Horse Crazy," "Friendship's Field," and "When Zarchary Beaver Came To Town." Like these other movies it features a sappy, sentimental, supposedly inspirational, yet unforgiveably mediocre song towards the end that is supposed to somehow sum up the message of the movie or otherwise enhance the climax of the plot in some way. These movies tend to adhere to certain rather irritating formulas, but when done right, they do have some redemption in terms of entertainment value. In fact, "Behind the Waterfall" is an example of such a movie that was done pretty close to right (as is "Horse Crazy"). It does not commit some of the unpardonable errors of "Friendship's Field" or "When Zachary Beaver Came To Town" and for this reason is worthy of three out of five stars!

4 out of 5 stars Go ahead, believe.......2005-09-04

This is a wonderful film for everyone. Great lessons on human nature and believing in yourself. My 8 yr. old has watched it over and over again. We love it.

5 out of 5 stars Find your inner leprechaun and dance in the fairy circle!!!.......2005-01-15

A refreshing way to teach basic appreciation for the abundance in our world that we take for granted. Shown in a perspective that does not focus on any one religion, we are reminded that it is our own thoughts that create our experience of life. Take time to listen to the wind, and your inner silence that guides you. Very lighthearted and whimsical, this movie holds your attention, and delights your inner child. This has become my favorite all time movie to promote love and understanding while having fun in the process.

This is one movie you wont mind your child watching over and over. And it won't hurt for you to kick back, forget your own problems and watch it too.

Some people need to see it to believe it, but here you learn that once you believe, then you can see. Find your inner leprechaun and dance in the fairy circle!!!

5 out of 5 stars A MUST SEE FAMILY MOVIE..........2004-11-11

THIS MOVIE TELLS TWO STORIES AND INTERWEAVES THEM MASTERFULLY ! ONE STORY IS ABOUT THE FAITH AND OPTIMISM OF CHILDREN AND THE ADULTS WHO TRY TO ENCOURAGE OR DISCOURAGE THESE CHILDREN. THE PERFORMANCES ARE MESMERIZING, ESPECIALLY GARY BURGOFF'S PERFORMANCE. THE SCENERY AND THE SOUNDTRACK ARE BREATHTAKING. I DO WISH I COULD FIND THE SOUNDTRACK FOR SALE.

MY CHILDREN AND THEIR FRIENDS HAVE WATCHED THIS MOVIE OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN A CHILD DISSATISFIED OR AN ADULT WHO WAS NOT ENTERTAINED.

DON'T MISS THIS MOVIE !

4 out of 5 stars Behind the Waterfall.......2003-08-30

This is a great family video. It is a story about a boy who has lost his father, and a sister and aunt who need to find happiness---all of them find the joy and happiness in learning to listen for the promptings of God. Great family video to teach that God is a part of our lives and that there is hope even when life gets tuff. Staring Gary Burghoff.
