With confident style and low-budget ingenuity, Jeepers Creepers gets under your skin, provoking spine-tingling horror when college siblings Trish (Gina Philips) and Darry (Justin Long) encounter a flesh-eating demon along a barren rural highway. After a harrowing car chase that sets the movie's nerve-wracking tone, they investigate suspicious activity near an abandoned church, where a corrugated pipe leads to unimaginable horrors. What follows is a cat-and-mouse game against the regenerating demon, which feeds on fear--and selected body parts--according to a psychic (Patricia Belcher) who adds chilling portent to the routine climax in a besieged police station. Writer-director Victor Salva (Powder) emphasizes primal fear over logic, but plot holes are easily forgiven when you're scared out of your socks. A surprise box-office hit in late summer 2001, Jeepers Creepers will please even jaded horror fans with its back-to-basics frights. --Jeff Shannon

A decent horror flick........2007-06-25
If monsters that can fly and enjoy killing people are your idea of scary, you may like Jeepers Creepers. If, however, you need more than this to get your heart pumping, it would be safe to skip this movie.
So what's this movie about? Siblings Derry and Trish are on a roadtrip when something goes terribly wrong. A truck attempts to ram the car off the road and soon after, the two witness a "man" tossing what appears to be bodies down a hole by a church. When the duo examine the hole more closely, their fears are confirmed and even worse, the "man" is not indeed a man but a monster who is chasing them.
What's to like? Up until the siblings discover what is going on in the hole, the movie is pretty good. From there, it's not so good. There are a few scenes during the latter part of the movie that were scary however. Also, whoever did the monster's makeup did a great job as he certainly does look creepy.
And what's not to like? First, the acting could be better. The actress that plays Trish is ok but Derry (played by Justin Long) is almost irritating during the majority of the movie. Second, as I said above, the latter part of the movie just isn't that good. I was disappointed that the movie went downhill after the first half an hour or so. The rest of the movie has the kids attempting to find help and running away. Also, they meet a woman who says that she can see things and explains that whenever they hear the song "Jeepers Creepers", the monster is near. This part of the movie was boring and laughable. Furthermore, the monster loses what was so creepy about him during the first half hour of the movie. I was bored to tears during the last hour or so.
The bottom line is this movie isn't scary enough nor has a good enough storyline to make it entertaining. If you like all things scary, you may want to watch this one anyway but be warned that it's a big waste of time.
Jeepers Creepers A Poor Horror film .......2007-06-03
To be fair this film was good for about the first 20 minutes that was until you see the thing that is chasing its two victims it is some sort of beast/vampire/human type creature thing with big wings that has a drivers licences and enjoys the comfort factor of wearing farmer's boots. You would kind of thought that when this beast with wings was going for its driving test someone at the driving test centre would have been alarmed in thinking this creature with wings might not be so human and seems a little bit odd but no it managed to pass its test and soon takes to the road with its truck to try run some guy & girl of the road and even when the creature itself is then ran over and then also reversed over 9 times it still manages to survive and just fly's of somewhere which makes you wonder why the hell it needed its driving licence in the first place. Surprisingly this film was not at all scary and was rather rank rotten at attempting to be any sort of horror film at all it would of made more sense to be a comedy film.
Fun Stuff.......2007-04-24
This is a fun time at the movies. Great to watch around Halloween.
If you haven't seen this yet and you enjoy horror movies, try it. There is a lot to like here.
I noticed that Amazon reviewers either love it or loathe it. The ones who loathe it say it's the worst horror movie ever made. That might be because subconsciously they're used to the usual pabulum that Hollywood spoon-feeds us, and expect everything to be like House of Wax, Saw, The Hills Have Eyes, and Hostel.
The reviewers who love it praise it to the skies (which makes it hyped unrealistically, and bound to disappointment the viewer).
In other hands Jeepers Creepers could have been a bad film, but the director and the two credible lead actors save it, as does the story and suspense.
It's no slasher flick, so pass if that's you're style. This is a nod to those simple but suspenseful horror films of the 70's (Duel comes to mind but that was so tedious after a while). And this movie includes a big amount of Alfred Hitchcock suspense, with a dash of tongue-in-cheek humor thrown in.
There are plot holes, yes... but there's no perfect scary film, really. And there are a couple of those cheap "jump" moments (you know, when there's a loud sting of music as a character pops into view out of nowhere; it's been done to absolute death in so many horror films, it's the biggest dead horse in Hollywood, and I wish directors and writers would stop that once and for all).
And yet I've got to give this movie credit for a few terrific things, including but not limited to: the realistic presentation of the siblings on a road trip in Florida, the discovery of something very creepy, and what the brother finds in the well. These things alone were really done nicely. I wish I had seen this in the movie theater instead of on dvd.
And the thing about the laundry in the car is a big shudder factor. (When they're at the diner.) Creepy.
The cinematography/direction is good; I love it when they show the AUDIENCE something sinister BEFORE the character sees it. Very Alfred Hitchcock, who believed that real suspense for a movie audience is not just seeing a bomb explode in a restaurant, it is showing the audience that there's a bomb which will soon explode.
(I haven't seen the sequel, and will eventually, out of curiosity. But I don't expect it to live up to the fun of this. If it does I'll be pleasantly surprised.)
Scary as hell.......2007-03-06
This movie is scary! I love horror movies and I havent seen horror movies for a while now until I watched this and Jeepers Creepers 2. My boyfriend and I had no lights in our house except the TV of course!! If you havent see this movie give yourself a chance and turn off all the lights and sit back and watch the movie! It will scare you but still it's great movie tho!! 5 stars for this movie and Jeepers Creepers 2
Greatest movie monster in decades.......2007-03-05
This review will be used interchangeably for a few titles. Event horizon, The darkness (Anna Paquin), And Jeepers Creepers. These are all excellent in one way or another, have good production values and acting. Jeepers has the best movie monster creation of the last 20 years. And the darkness has a great story and a solid non happy ending. Event horizon has excellent acting by Sam neill and Laurence fishburn and a truly creepy story. The bottom line is you see reviews for movies like these and Wes Cravens They for example where many people give them 2 star ratings while going on and on about The grudge or the ring 2 or house of wax, Blair witch 2 and Ring around the rosie (one of the worst and most pointless movies Ive ever watched.) This just goes to prove once again that the average person refuses to think and doesnt want a movie that might require any thought to follow. Originality is punished by the masses because clever things make them feel dumb.

Despite the usual symptoms of sequelitis, Jeepers Creepers 2 delivers the goods for those who enjoyed the 2001 original--a group large enough to propel this sequel to a record-setting opening in August 2003. While establishing the flesh-eating "Creeper" as a new horror icon with frantic action and more elaborate special effects, writer-director Victor Salva follows the traditional formula, dispensing with plot almost altogether and focusing entirely on threat, menace, mayhem, and gore. That's likely to disappoint horror fans hoping for a more revealing exploration of the Creeper's origins (room for another sequel, perhaps?), and by trapping nondescript teens in a school bus attacked by the Creeper, Salva severely limits the movie's overall potential. Still, there's something to be said for straightforward shocks, and Jeepers Creepers 2 delivers enough of them to justify its profitable existence. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
The best 2nd movie of Jeepers Creepers.......2007-03-06
This movie is still great!! I have Jeepers Creepers 1 and 2 looking forward to have 3 in the future!!
Acceptable sequel that hasn't learnt from the originals flaws........2007-02-16
I was quite excited to hear that "Jeepers Creepers" was getting the sequel treatment. The Creeper is a great character and deserves to get some more screen time, and while the first one certainly had its flaws, it was entertaining throughout, particularly during the first half. I was even more eager when I found out Victor Salva was directing once again, yet none of the original cast (apart from a cameo from Darry) took part this time round. Now that I've seen "Jeepers Creepers II" a couple of times, I have to say I'm somewhat disappointed. There's no doubt that Victor Salva knows how to shoot some intensely gripping scenes, but he hasn't learnt from any of the mistakes he made the first time round.
Once again, the movie starts off well enough. The opening scene is filmed really well and gives us a very good idea why Jack Taggart (played by the ever dependable Ray Wise) dedicates the rest of his life to bringing down The Creeper. From here we move to a bus carrying a gridiron team as they make their way home from the state championships. And that's where we stay for pretty much the next hour and a bit. The football team is filled with clichés. Tough guys, bimbo cheerleaders, racial tensions etc. etc. The movie becomes as much about the real-life bonding of the team for survival as it is about The Creeper's unstoppable killing resolve.
The best parts of "Jeepers Creepers 2" all involve The Creeper being on screen. He looks fantastically horrific and takes out victims quickly and efficiently. When he's there, things are exciting and unpredictable. But when he's not on screen, things drag out, with the constant bickering between characters and clunky dialogue really testing patience. But my biggest gripes are the same as they were in the first film. While The Creeper doesn't whistle the theme song this time round, the scene where he winks at intended victims and licks his lips just doesn't sit well with me. There's always this underlying sense of humour that I feel this series could do without. And then there's the psychic cheerleader! The psychic woman in Jeepers Creepers pushed the realms of cheap storytelling, but the cheerleader scenario crosses the line. One minute she's a normal, everyday cheerleader and the next she's a psychic that knows everything there is to know about The Creeper, his history and his purpose. Surely the writers could come up with a more realistic device for getting the story across.
Flaws aside, "Jeepers Creepers II" is an ok sequel. It's not as good as the first film but then not many sequels are, particularly in this genre. Some of the set pieces are enjoyable and worthwhile, but I still feel there's a better movie to be made with the story and The Creeper. In the meantime, this is acceptable, if not essential viewing.
This movie is cool..........2007-01-24
If you are a fan of the first Jeepers Creepers then this movie won't disappoint you at all. The special effects have improved as well as the look of Creepers too. The story is pretty cool and once again Jonathan Breck pulls off the part of "Creepers" playing him as a highly intelligent gargoyle that has a sense of humor!
Anyone that doesn't understand these movies or doesn't appreciate them for what they are is over-analyzing them. I give this movie 5 stars - it was totally entertaining!
I hope they don't make a third...for everyone's sake.......2006-10-09
Having watched Jeepers Creepers, and having been at least mildly entertained (if by nothing other than Justin Long's surprisingly good performance - i.e. when he "acted" scared, he really did appear to be genuinely scared), I thought I would catch this as it was on free TV.
I said Jeepers Creepers was a train wreck. If I have to hold on to that metaphor, then this must be the equivalent of the Titanic.
About fifteen minutes into the film, when there were dozens of "teenage" males running around without their shirt on (some for absolutely no apparent reason whatsoever), I came to www.imdbpro.com to see if David De Coteau was involved in this. Given that the production values were fairly decent, I was certain that he wouldn't be. For the uninitiated (count yourself lucky) De Coteau makes horror films that barely scratch the bottom of the "B" category in filmmaking, as every film that I've ever seen of his involves preposterously underdressed young men with equally preposterously builds doing "something" - even if it makes no sense whatsoever.
No, De Coteau wasn't involved with this, and I couldn't find any other ties between his movies and Victor Salva's (I didn't look too hard), but it still struck as being odd given that the majority of horror films that make it to the big screen involve lusty, young large bosomed girls having their shirts come off for no apparent reason.
What puzzled me was that this wasn't present in Jeepers Creepers. Anyway, enough of that.
In Jeepers Creepers there was a standout performance - Justin Long - that gave the movie an ounce of credibility. There was no such performance here, although cult fans of the TV series Popular would be interested to know that chemistry teacher Bobbi Glass was the bus driver.
So, the bus. The bus gets a flat on the highway because "it" (whatever it is - some kind of morphed locus?) pierces the tire with startling accuracy with what resembles Chinese star - except it's made of bones. They find two such things. One has a tooth in the middle, the other a bellybutton. Eek.
The movie is reduced to the kids who want to stay on the bus and the kids who don't. This is where any logic that may have existed falls apart. There's this giant winged creature, capable of ripping open the top of a bus (and car) and snatching people out like we would with a can of sardines. The bus doesn't sound too safe. It isn't. Neither is the open road...but there are people who think being out of the bus is better than being in the bus, and the kids actually have arguments about this that are supposed to be logical.
There are a few good cheap thrills, and the ending is more sad than anything else, but aside from that there's nothing to set this apart from any horror movie I've ever seen.
An okay sequel, not as good as 1........2006-06-27
Too bad the JEEpERs CrEEpers series had to end so soon. The storyline was a pretty funny one (in 1 it looked like the Creeper was making out with the severed head). This one had a good twist like the first, and was sort of funny. SCREAM is still my favorite slasher still, but these are also a good pair of slasher films.

Buyer Beware!.......2007-06-20
While the description says the running time is 110 minutes, this is actually the edited version which is 80 minutes at the start of the credits. The picture quality is poor (like a copy of an old VHS) and the sound is not much better. Not bad for 5 bucks, but if you are a true fan of the film, keep your eyes open for a full length copy of Phenomena which is harder to find.
My favorite Argento.......2007-05-17
This is a masterpiece of Italian horror from Dario Argento. Great soundtrack... great on so many levels. Creepers is definitely one of my all time favorite movies.
Lady Of The Flies..........2006-05-02
Yes, CREEPERS is a truncated version of Argento's PHENOMENA. Jennifer Connely is Jennifer Corvino, a young girl at a swiss boarding school w/ the ability to communicate w/ insects telepathically. She also has odd dreams and nightly bouts of somnambulism. Jennifer finds herself in the middle of a murder mystery when a madman begins killing other young girls. With the help of a kindly entomologist (Donald Pleasance), Jennifer sets out to reveal the identity of the killer. I actually like this movie a lot. The idea of "talking" to bugs may sound ridiculous, but it works! Connely is able to pull it off with ease. If you liked SUSPIRIA, then you'll enjoy this one. As in other Argento films, there is a perfect mixture of beauty and savagery. Check it out...
Ya Gotta Love it.......2005-12-27
Dario Argento is great filmmaker. Everyone of his films has a warm, quite feel to them. You know when you are watching a Dario Argento film. This movie is one of my favorites from the great Italian filmmaker. Jennifer Connelly is great and you see why she is one of the best actresses in Hollywood today, let's hope she stays away from Dark Water type pics though. I would HIGHLY recommend this film to any horror fan. I don't own it but it will be the crown jewel of my Dario Argento Collection. When I first saw it, I won't lie, that little boy freaked me out, it really shocked me and that is saying a lot.
Dario A Excellant Effort.......2005-10-07
Dario Aregento know how to terrify. The main cast is very good and one of them is very young Jennifer Connelly. A must see, the direction, sreenplay fit better than O. J. Simpson's glove. Becareful of the running time my DVD said 110 mins. but only ran 82 mins. Poor Jennifer was put to test for Dario did spare here on what see had to do.

Two not bad films.......2007-01-16
The main problem I have with this DVD is the picture quality which is a bit on the soft side. The films themselves are not bad. Embryo features a really good performance by Rock Hudson in a lesser known role. Creepers is a not a top notch Argento movie but it's up above the average mark. Jennifer Connelly does a very good job at conveying fear. Two creepy movies that deserve to be seen by horror fans

Italian horror maestro Dario Argento made his name by turning homicide into modern art with a cinematic flourish, but with Phenomena he takes his stylish mayhem in new directions. The film opens with the dreamy grace of a fairy tale: a young girl wandering the green meadows of Switzerland and discovering a gingerbread house, wherein lives a monster more modern than mythic, a psychopathic maniac who plunges the picture into a lush nightmare. Jennifer (Jennifer Connelly in her first starring role), a gifted young girl at a Swiss school, has a psychic link to the insect world and develops a connection with the killer through midnight sleepwalks. With the help of a lonely, wheelchair-bound entomologist (genre stalwart Donald Pleasence, who inflects his sonorous tenor with a gentle Scottish burr) she turns telekinetic detective, which only draws her closer to the killer's lair. The densely plotted story becomes muddled at times (this is the busiest film in Argento's oeuvre) but the lyrical cinematography and gorgeous nocturnal imagery--dreamy sleepwalks, nightmarish murders, hideous horrors that emerge in the dark of night--take on a poetic elegance not seen in his previous work, providing the tale with a kind of dream logic. This is a slasher film reborn as an exquisitely grim fantasy: Jennifer in Argentoland. --Sean Axmaker
Customer Reviews:
Great release!.......2007-03-03
INFERNO-I liked this just as much if not more then "Susperia".I love Dario's supernatural stuff like this and "Susperia".The story isn't really as hard to follow as everybody says you just have to pay attention(like all his movies). The special effects are awesome and I love the classic Dario Argento lighting thats in EVERY scene and its obviously a cue he took from Mario Bava.Speaking of Mario Bava,he did some of the effects scenes for this movie and they came out great! If you like susperia tou should like this.
PHENOMENA-Probably one of Dario's goriest with a hand being stabbed,a classic Dario shot of a head breaking through glass and a decapitation all in the first ten minutes. The acting is great, the score is amazing, the plot is strange and ranks up there as one of my favorites.
very original.......2006-08-13
This is a very interesting and original horror. A very talented Jennifer Connelly has a very strange gift of communicating with insects and is the outcast of a girl's school where even the teachers are cruel to her and think she is mental. There is a killer on the loose and via telepathic communication with the insects is able to track down the killer, or will she be the next victim?
one of his best.......2006-06-24
when i watch a dario argento film, i am not looking for spielberg-esque actors or scenarios and whatnot, but more of a dreamy, creepy, and artistic atmosphere...not to mention, the fact that dario never shows killers' faces until the very end of his films..this to me, is the very essence of a horror/mystery film.....if i am seeing a killer's face the whole time, then where is mystery and suspense??...and did i mention the good soundtrack? wow, dario sure has his essentials covered!
yes, this movie is messed up, but that is EXACTLY why i like it...and all of dario argento's films.
people will also run their mouths on Argento's films being "boring" as i have heard many times before...if you have the attention span of a chipmunk, you may want to stick with your stupid, hollywood, cliche mission impossible type films..this movie isn't meant for cinema pops..."gasp" you actually have to PAY ATTENTION!!"gasp".....just give this film a chance if you get an oppurtunity to watch it...i mean, i personally would recommend Suspiria and Inferno to Argento newcomers, but this one would suffice too.
shame it is out of print...i mean, im sure you could find a different version much cheaper, but you will be missing out on some fantastic speacial features.....not to mention, they may be edited.
PHENOMENAL FILM.......2006-04-09
"Phenomena" is my personal favourite Argento film. It has practically all the elements that form other movies of Italian maestro: boarding school for girls, mysterious murderer, dreamy atmosphere, beautiful music (although I thought the soundtrack could do easily without Iron Maiden and Motorhead), hidden rooms and passages in the houses, some unexpected and unthinkable plot lines, like Jennifer Connely's character being able to communicate with insects...
It's difficult, maybe even impossible to explain the beauty of Argento's pictures. I think whether you see it or not. It's like whether you love fantasy genre or not. "Phenomena" is extremely picturesque, enchanting and dark if you get into Argento's work. If you don't I guess you wouldn't be reading this. So if you enjoyed his other films like "Opera", "Inferno" or "Suspiria" you'll get a lot of pleasure watching this one.
Now a few words about editions: there are about 15 different releases of different countries, and Anchor Bay one is rather good - it has commentaries and some extra features. But my pick is German 2-disc limited edition by "Dragon entertainment". It has loads of extras and some additional dialog sequences missing in AB release. This edition is rather hard to find nowdays. But if you're a die-hard fan you might have your ways...
PHENOMENA (110 Minute Version).......2006-01-09
Jennifer Connelly stars as a girl who attends a creepy boarding school for girls in Switzerland, where several girls have been slaughtered by a killer. She soon realizes she has the ability to telepathically communicate with insects and uses this power to track down the killer. Laced with unusual touches that make the film seem dream-like, Dario Argento creates yet another spectacular masterpiece. The acting is impressive (although the dubbing inevitably leads to some cheesiness in some scenes), the music score is one of the best horror movie scores ever, and the film is stylish and downright scary. For those interested in the gore, there are some devilishly creative death sequences which are sure to please. Possibly even better than SUSPIRIA.
