A low-key, slightly creepy meditation on infidelity and adjustments to social expectations, Chloe in the Afternoon (1972) marks the culmination of director Eric Rohmer's "Six Moral Tales" series. The film, which traces the trajectory of Frederic, a married businessman, through temptation and an altogether standard midlife crisis, feels remarkably ham-handed, and fails to offer anything more than platitudinous responses to complex problems. Zouzou proves fetching as the title character, a bohemian drifter bent on seducing, and arguably transforming, the comfortably bourgeois protagonist (the dull-looking Bernard Verley); the rest of the cast, given indistinct characters to interpret, rarely provides much excitement. Several scenes--particularly a revelatory encounter between Frederic and Chloe in the basement of a dress shop--do manage to catch fire, but Rohmer dodges the implications of his own creative instincts and undermines his own point by grafting on a pat conclusion that feels cheap and sudden. Lost in the slide toward obviousness is a genuinely intelligent script--one that manages to feel bright without ever resorting to cleverness--and foggy-surreal location shooting in some of the less fashionable areas of Paris. Best suited for repentant philanderers and hardcore Francophiles. --Miles Bethany

I am not exactly sure what genre of movie "Daydream Obsession I" fits into. It is not exactly soft porn but it is not exactly a movie with a plot either. We see a lot of men rubbing themselves in various state of undress. Photographed in slow motion and set to some rally bad music. There are lots of frontal nudity shots as well as rear end close ups but these do not make a movie. The plot is thin and is about a guy in his twenties that does not know who he is sexually. His roommates are straight men and he fantasizes about seeing them naked while he transcribes his feelings on video. And of course the movie and Clayton (the main character) do reach a climax, so to speak.
Basically this is a low budget cheesy look at sexuality. Everyone in the movie is on screen naked but that unfortunately is distracting. They are bodybuilders with underdeveloped sexual organs who seem incapable of sensible dialog. This is not a love story ad it does tend toward eroticism but manages to catch itself before it becomes classified as porn. There is no sex shown but it is interesting to watch the nude body doing normal things. Clayton is the one we want to see naked and do not get the option of doing so. As for the acting--there does not seem to be any. What bothers me is that the possibility of creating a good movie was there but somehow it became lost in deference to showing naked men. I understand that there is also "Daydream Obsession II". I hope that it is better than this mish mash.

Slo-motion video voyeurism.......2007-03-04

.... is what the title of this movie should have been called. Men are shown rubbing themselves in different settings, set to bad music & slow motion photography. Having the camera linger on the genitalia or arse of the subject is not what I would call cinema at its best. The thinly disguised plot, introduces a single man in his mid twenties who questions his sexuality & is still a virgin. He shares a home with several of his straight buddies and documents his diary diatribes on video, all the while fantasising that his roomies are naked. I dont want to give the climax of the movie away (no pun intended) however this movie could have played out like single white female, but even that movie was far more entertaining than this if only for the sheer camp of it. The real crime of this movie, is that the actor who plays the character Clayton, seems to have squandered his talents starring in this low budget soft core porn flick. I realize we all have to make our start somewhere, but acting along side well known gay porn actors isnt the best place to showcase ones acting chops if you want to be taken seriously.

Daydream Obsession.......2006-03-15

This movie is not a love story, but is does have some erotic scenes. No sex, but is cute. The main character daydreams that all the men he sees are naked. I wish I had daydreams as vivid as his. If you are looking for romance forget it. Just a nice piece of fluff. There is little story mostly lots of naked men. If your not into watching nude men doing normal things except they are nude, well, your loss. I give this film four stars, it turns me on.

not worth 1 star.......2004-05-24

I'm a big fan of (...) movies, but this one is simply trash. No storyline, bad acting, you gotta be a masochist to watch this film. It's the worst I've seen in a long time. If you want to suffer through this film, rent it, do not waste your money buying it.

If you're looking for a 90 min. compilation of 5 or 6 HOT guys in "solo action", full-frontal, up close and personal, this is the DVD for you. If you're looking for something with a story line, forget it! There's only the barest (hee, hee, hee) of story lines here. Just a silly thread to tie together the solo strip sequences. WHY can't the people who make these films combine BOTH features, i.e. a plausible story line AND full frontal.

Mostly he is content at least until he realizes that Luke may be cheating. Clayton s obsession and joy with overpowering those home wrecking victims lead him on a delusion filled path of naked men playing Frisbee and eating ice cream. When I was a teenager, there was a Grape Nuts cereal commercial that advertisers rated as the worst ad of the year. Did Grape Nuts cancel the commercials? No! They made even more variants. They must have decided that being the worst was more advantageous than being just one in the crowd. The same thing happens here. This sequel takes a bad first movie and makes it worse. The main character was not endearing from the jump, so the movie makers made him even more annoying this time around. It was understandable when he made bad decisions as a closeted man, but as an insecure boyfriend, he really scratches the chalkboard with his nails. Other people have noted that the men in this flick are not as hot as in the first one. I'd add that this sequel had fewer men, not just less attractive ones. I can only assume that the movie makers and the cast wanted to make something so terrible that one has to work hard to erase it from his memory.
