In 1992, war is brewing in Bosnia, but the city fathers in the town of Golobuci are going ahead with their plans of building a railroad line they hope will bring more visitors into the city. Luka (Slavko Stimac), who is in charge of the construction project, lives with his wife, Jadranka (Vesna Trivalic), a former musician who is suffering from manic depression, and his son, Milos (Vuk Kostic), a talented soccer player who dreams of turning pro some day. After Jadranka has an especially severe episode, Luka takes her to the hospital, where he meets Sabaha (Natasa Solak), a Moslem nurse who quickly develops a nonprofessional interest in Luka. As the clouds of war appear on the horizon, Milos is drafted into the army and Jadranka runs away, and after Sabaha is left with no place to go, she's sent to Luka's place by his friend Aleksic (Stribor Kusturica), where she quickly takes over as both housekeeper and bedmate to Luka. The peculiar filmography of Kusturica simply does not fit in previous models. His delirious narrative, the divine madness that hovers all his scripts, reminds us to Fellini but with loaded with beating urgency and vertiginous intensity.

An engineer has a nagging wife and a dreamy son. His wife will cheat him with a musician and his son is captured for enemy forces. On the road, he will meet a beauty and mysterious woman, who has been assigned as part of an exchange of prisoners, where precisely she will be exchanged by his own son. This web of encountered feelings will captive and engage you from start to finish.

There is much more to comment around the superb seconday personages but it would be a crime to make reference about them.

Go for this original proposal. A mesmerizing and ambitious movie that surely will move you.

I had enjoyed this movie. It belongs to one of the best movies i have ever seen. Pictures and landscape are beautiful. The story is also unusual. See this film and don t trust people who combine politics point of views and cinematografic arts. The film is not war related but a love story that is fully borderless.

Horror of Bosnian war seen by director never seeing that war, sitting 500 miles away in the Slobo's paid comfy Belgrade chair. What is this picture? Nature miracles? Grasp for come back to his roots or weirdly shallow and questionable approach to the tragedy of former Yugoslavia under that surface clamor? Kusta, you need a cold shower, you left before it started - you just do not have a feel for it any more... There are more important subjects to be researched there... What happen to that "Drina Bridge" (on Ivo Andric) movie project????
Save your money folks: see "Pretty villages - pretty flame" or "No mans land" prior to seeing this picture.
