THE FINEST TRAINING VIDEO.......2007-05-15

Excellent training product. Well-organized, easy to use, top training material. My seven year-old son and I watch it together and then go out to practice. He's already learned some of the moves and used them to impress the coach of a traveling team. Highly recommended.

Reasonable review of various moves, but some of the demonstrations were much too basic, and did not show the deception needed to make the moves work. If fact, some of the "cut" moves looked very lazy in the demonstration. My youth team was not very impressed. A few more demonstraions by either professional players or in-game shots would have been very helpful in showing how to "sell" the moves. I think this is ok for youth coaches, but not for the players themselves.

I think many of us can relate to feeling trapped by our geography and those around us, and the need to rise above it all. But what really makes this movie shine is the acting, including the tough coach, Bosco (the world's oldest teenager), the down and out brother, even the best friend (who almost made it out of town). Not to mention a happy ending!

This movie really is a great watch. I would have to disagree that Risky Business is the better flick. Risky is very unrealistic and can be drab at times.
Yes, working in a steel mill (its not a factory, people) is not a great place to work, but before the 80's steel mills paid the bills for a lot of Western Pa's workers. What this movie portrays is the fall of the steel mills that can really be appreciated by the people who grew up in Johnstown. Unfortunately, this movie is all to realistic. Yes, the majority of people from this area have no other means to attend college. It is a very poor town and without our steel mills it has become a city in distress. It is nearly impossible for residents to get a part-time minimum wage job that only pays $5.15 an hour. It is downright unachievable to pay college when loans only cover 30% for the first year of college. How is a person to pay for the other 70% without a scholorship? I know a lot of people from this area that are "stuck" in the city and that live in poverty. Some people that do leave the area far too often have to return to their parent's poverty stricken home because of finacial problems.
This movie is very entertaining and a must see. The actors are very likeable and do a great job portraying what Johnstown was really like. Football is by-far more more supported than other sports and extra-curricular activities in Johnstown. The ending is not laughable, but it will put a smile on your face that there is a happy ending to Tom Cruise's character.

Tom's star rises.......2005-12-03

All The Right Moves was the film that discovered Tom Cruise.

Tom plays a high school football superstar looking to get out of his steel mill town via a college scholarship.

Craig T Nelson plays his coach. (This was before he was TV's Coach!) He also thinks a winning team could get him a job at a college.

Lea Thompson hadn't gone Back to the Future yet, but plays Tom's girl.

The movie is light weight but still fun to watch.

A must have for all Tom Cruise fans.

Great Expectations: The key ingredient in this modern-day version of Charles Dickens's classic is director Alfonso Cuarón, who made the glowing, estimable A Little Princess. If you saw that (and you should), understand that Expectations has those ingredients (great sense of time, place, and timing) but adds modern music and sex appeal; the latter personified by the long-legged Gwyneth Paltrow.

Finnegan Bell (Ethan Hawke as an adult, Jeremy James Kissner at age 10) is the new version of Dickens's Pip. He's a child wise beyond his years, befriending an escaped convict (Robert De Niro) in the warm waters of Florida's Gulf Coast. Finn is also the plaything for Estella (Paltrow as an adult, Raquel Beaudene at age 10), the niece of the coast's richest and most eccentric lady, Ms. Dinsmoor (a fun and flamboyant Anne Bancroft). The prudish Estella likes Finn (catch the best first kiss scene in many a moon) but has been brought up to disdain men; she'll break hearts. As the object of Finn's desires, Estella unfortunately is a one-dimensional character, yet what a dimension! Clad in Donna Karan dresses and her long, sun-kissed hair, Paltrow is luminous. She and Hawke make a very sexy couple.

Mitch Glazer's script does better by Finn. He's a blue-collar worker with a gift for drawing (artwork by Francesco Clemente). Following his Uncle Joe's (Chris Cooper) honest ways, Finn grows up as a fisherman, thoughts of Estella and art drifting away in the hard work. When a mysterious benefactor allows him to follow his dream, Finn finds himself in New York, preparing for a once-in-a-lifetime art exhibit--and in the arms of the engaged Estella.

Filled with cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki's golden-drenched light, the film has an irresistible, wildly romantic look. Dinsmoor's place is certainly gothic, Estella and Finn's longing encounters glamorous. Cuarón uses an MTV-friendly soundtrack with a confident touch. Songs by Tori Amos and the band Pulp--along with Patrick Doyle's silky score--create passionate scenes. It all ends far too swiftly with a seemingly tacked-on ending (reflecting the book, as it happens) but the film is splendid storytelling. It's a stylish, sweet valentine. --Doug Thomas
