Reliving the early sixties!.......2007-05-12
I identify with this movie because I grew up at the same time and my two priorities were girls and cars or vice versa (come to think about it, that's still my two priorities!) I have owned a VHS version of Americian Graffitti for many years but I wanted a DVD version hoping that it will last many more years.
The original movie is hard to sequel so More American Graffitti didn't do a lot for me.
Great deal........2007-05-05
I would award 5 stars for the American Graffiti movie alone. It is well-presented here, and also includes some special features, including an informative "Making of.." documentary that features interviews with alot of the cast as well as those behind the camera. The movie is a classic, and is required viewing for any lover of fine movies.
But that's not all. The package also included the sequel to American Graffiti.. "More American Graffiti". This movie is not nearly the timeless classic as the original, but it is a great view for anyone who liked the first movie. Save for a few uninteresting plotlines involving the counter-culture in the 60's, the movie holds its own rather well. Milner's last race before his emminent death (this is not a spoiler, trust me) and Toad's tour in Vietnam are particularly worth viewing.
If you're willing to sacrifice not having the "Collector's Edition" of American Graffiti in exchange for having the sequel as well, then this is a great buy.
Beware of the extra charges on customs from usa ???.......2007-03-23
Every thing was great apart from I got a letter from the post office that i had to pay an extra £11.15 to get this item even thou i paid for all the post at time of ordering ... Which amazon didn't tell me .. ( i was not happy )
american graffiti/more american graffiti (drive-in double feature).......2007-03-12
both sides of this dvd skip so badly it is unwatchable.
unfortunatly i lost my receipt before viewing this piece of crap.
i would advise other customers to think twice before purchasing the franchise collection version of these two movies.

It was a great deal, and the seller got it to me really quick.

AWESOME GUY!.......2007-06-23
WOW! I happened to have my t.v. on the Sundance Channel ~ not paying too much attention to what was on ~ and I heard this AMAZING song playing! I checked the guide to see what this was... i had NO IDEA who Jeff Tweedy was! but, I couldn't tear myself away from the t.v.. This guy has it all. He's so talented, his songs are beautifully performed, & he has a great sense of humor! As soon as it was over, I went to amazon.com & ordered it!! The DVD description says you can download all the songs, which is what I wanted to do in the first place. I can't wait to get it!
A Must Have for Wilco Fans.......2007-06-12
I believe this DVD is a must have for serious Wilco or Jeff Tweedy fans. The song selection is great and Tweedy manages a funny demeanor throughout, despite multiple references to his previous stint at rehab. Great versions of "The Thanks I Get" and "Heavy Metal Drummer" justify the price on their own.
happy.......2007-05-14
I was at the Seattle show featured in the DVD and it was a great experience. Tweedy managed to communicate on a very intimate level with the "abyss"... I'm sure everyone took what they needed/wanted away; I left feeling just really happy and it carried me through the dreary Seattle month of February (Thanks, Jeff). The DVD doesn't have the immediacy or warmth of the show (I'd never expect it to), but in a way it's more intimate - I even find myself getting a little squirmy watching Tweedy sing during close-up shots. The important thing is it makes me smile the same way the show did and is well worth it just for that. The downloads were a very happy surprise.
a great rock document.......2007-05-13
In this film Jeff Tweedy is brought to us simply as Who he is : A humble great singer who has this one sincere intention: Bringing joy to a bunch of people through beautiful songs. Nothing less and nothing more.
This film takes us throughout the pacific northeast, documenting acoustic live performances of tweedy (partly accompanied by glenn kotche and nels cline), as well as personal thoughts and revelations he sometimes wanted to share.
the film captures a lot of interesting interactions between jeff and his audience and that, in addition to the great songs, make this dvd so compelling.
The Belleville boy at its best!!!.......2007-04-12
Either you like Wilco or just love Tweedy's awesome lyrics, you're gonna fall for this one. Jeff not only chit-chats with the fans from the Pacific Northwest, but he also plays one of the best live sets I've ever seen on DVD. I had the chance to catch Wilco last Fall at the Will Rogers Auditorium in Fort Worth, TX. Since then, I consider myself a big big big fan of this band, but after seeing this DVD, I'm certainly looking forward to catch Jeff in his solo tour. Simply great!!!

This moving 1995 adaptation of Alan Paton's celebrated novel stars James Earl Jones as a beloved, rural minister in South Africa who makes his first trip to Johannesburg in search of his son. The latter's destiny has been linked with that of a doomed, young white man, whose racist father (Richard Harris) is approached by Jones's character in the spirit of mutual understanding. Directed by Darrell James Roodt (Sarafina!), the film is most powerful in those scenes featuring Harris and Jones together, though early sequences grounded in the hard life and times of Jones's community are colorful and dramatic. It's impossible not to be touched by the cautious but real connection made between the principal characters and by the moral authenticity of the actors. --Tom Keogh
Description
Powerful and uplifting, CRY, THE BELOVED COUNTRY was widely hailed as one of the best films of the year! In a land torn by hatred and injustice, James Earl Jones (CLEAR & PRESENT DANGER) and Richard Harris (GLADIATOR, THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO) are two fathers -- one a man of peace, the other a man of power and privelege -- whose lives seem destined for a violent collision. But instead, in the wake of a tragic killing, these extraordinary men form an unlikely union ... and together find the kind of understanding that could heal a nation! Based on the acclaimed novel, this electrifying motion picture will both entertain and inspire you!
Customer Reviews:
Visual Aid for Discussing book.......2006-11-10
The film follows the book extremely well. Minor changes do not affect the author's purpose. Emotional performances by recognizable actors such as Jones and Harris are appealing to current audiences. The film makes thoughtful discussion easier than simply reading and discussing Paton's novel.
James Earl Jones Shines in Noble Performance.......2006-02-09
Darrell Roodt chose carefully when it was time to direct the first film of South Africa after the abolition of Apartheid. Alan Paton's novel was first filmed in 1951, and "Cry the Beloved Country" is a tale that seems as much a part of the South African collective zeitgeist as Twain or Hemingway or Steinbeck is part of America's.
This film version is centered around perhaps James Earl Jones' most powerful screen performance. He stars as the Reverend Stephen Kumalo, a clergyman from a small town in South Africa. He is a strong man of faith and leads a congregation in matters both religious and practical. His son ran away to Johannesburg to work in the mines, and his sister went away also to join her husband. His brother, John, is also in the city, an outspoken black activist who has abandoned the ways of religion because religion is not creating justice for blacks. The film opens with Reverend Kumalo receiving word that things are not all well in Johannesburg.
Richard Harris has the role of James Jarvis, a wealthy white landowner from the same small town. His son has also gone to Johannesburg, where he works as an activist trying to improve the repressed condition of the South African Blacks who are only starting to come under the evil thumb of Apartheid.
The whites and blacks are so separate that although they are two of the most prominent figures in a small town, Mr. Jarvis and the Reverend Kumalo have not even met as the movie opens. Tragedy strikes, more than once, and without spoiling the plot I'll just reveal that it involves the two sons of these two characters.
Roodt goes out of his way to display the noble suffering of Reverend Kumalo. He never speaks a discouraging word, even when confronting terrible injustice. The story hinges on Kumalo's innate goodness, and Mr. Jones brings this to life in a way that carries the story along.
It is worth mentioning a single scene - the one in which Kumalo and Jarvis first meet. The previously mentioned tragedy has already occurred and both men are in a kind of mourning. Kumalo knows Jarvis while Jarvis vaguely recognizes Kumalo. The Reverend confides in the powerful white man that "My greatest sorrow is also your greatest sorrow". The performances by these two great actors in this powerful scene would be reason alone to watch this film, but I would still recommend the movie with that centerpiece scene removed.
It is clichéd to say that the world would be a better place if we were collectively more understanding and tolerant of those who were different from us, but "Cry the Beloved Country" brings this sentiment forward in a way that is realistic and powerful.
Cry The Beloved Country.......2005-07-27
Very excellent movie, James Earl Jones did a wonderful
job. I read the book and the movie stayed true to it.
A simple film about two fathers that leaves you amazed........2005-06-29
Talk about a relief from our sardonic, nihilistic world. I felt like I popped in a handful of Poignant Pills after I saw this film.
I could use words like captivating, rapturous or brilliant to describe the screenplay, the acting, the mood of this film; but I'm not going to. To do so would be wrong, for this film does something that most films can not - it speaks for itself.
In it, we have two fathers. One, a minister (Earl Jones) during apartheid in South Africa. Another (Harris) is a rich man who never understood his son. When the pastor's son fearfully and regretfully kills the rich man's son, we witness the human condition at its frailest core. The pastor's shame all but consumes him while the rich man is more pained by the fact that he never was able to know his son who so painstakingly worked to restore racial harmony long before it was popular. Instead of adding to the pastor's guilt, grief and pain at what his son has done, he restores him by graciously forgiving the man and his child. It is as if each man knows his place and is unwilling to move above it. Jones' character cannot forgive himself for what his son has done and Harris' character cannot forgive himself for refusing to reach a bit further into his boy's life. They find healing in one another, and this adds to the tone of the film.
This film is altogether amazing, both story-wise and visually. Both men tread upon great pains in this film, pains that cut them to the heart, but both persevere.
One of the top twenty-five films I've ever watched and one of the most under appreciated movies of all time.
5 out of 5.
A Moving, Powerful Film.......2004-12-26
(my favorite film in my short lifetime among many good ones)
Cry, The Beloved Country is a triumph of redemption and hope in the face of terrible tragedy. How two men (wonderfully portrayed by screen legends James Earl Jones and Richard Harris) transcend their roles in life and move beyond the faultlines of race and vengeance is a story no one should miss. The country is beautiful, the characters are compelling and the story an invaluable contribution to anyone's understanding of South Africa's troubled past.

Great comedy!.......2007-04-18
Hispanic-American Rudy (Cheech Marin) is just having a fine day until an immigration raid as he's wrongfully prosecuted as an illegal immigrant. He doesn't know a word of spanish and forgot to bring his wallet and ID, he's forced to be deported to Mexico as he must find a way to get back to the U.S. even if he has to work for a club owner (Daniel Stern) for money.
Entertaining, underrated and hilarious cult comedy written and directed by Cheech Marin in based on his comedy parody album of the same name. Co-starring Paul Rodriguez, this lighthearted comedy has good laughs and an original storyline from Marin fresh off his Cheech and Chong stuff, this is one of the best and funniest comedy movies i've ever seen for i highly recommend it.
The DVD here has good picture and sound with both fullscreen and widescreen versions and one extra which is the theatrical trailer.
Great Movie.......2007-03-29
I personally love this movie, first time i saw it, a long time ago, i didnt like it because I was a Kid,,, then i saw it a few years later and love it,,, now i went to amazon and looked for it,,, its now on my collections... Its not a huge Classic movie, but it makes you have a good tome.
Born in East L.A........2007-01-06
I have been waiting for some time to buy this movie because it was one of my all-time favorites when I first saw it on television. Waiting to see if it would appear at a discount price (about $5-$7)I decided to go ahead and purchase it. I was disappointed to find out that this version had the shorten-version that did not show the marriage on the float at the end of the movie. Only then did I learn this movie had two different endings. Regardless, since it was one of my favorites, I decided to keep it anyway.
Good, politically incorrect ethnic humor!.......2006-11-11
What made this film funny is that Cheech Marin's character Rudy Ramos tried to behave as the straight guy while acting out just about every bad Mexican joke that's ever been told. In this respect, it's one gaffe right after another.
BTW I also got a big kick out of Paul Rodriguez as the cousin, Javier, who acted like the picture of Jesus with the phone behind it was talking to him... at one point, he obediently brings "Jesus" a can of beer, LOL!
If only the real situation were not so depressing. I went to Tijuana in December '88 with a buddy who's an American citizen (he's of Mexican descent, but looks Egyptian... so the border guards never gave him any trouble), and came back across at the end of the day wondering why any sane person would want to live there. As bad as Tijuana is, however, I've heard it's nowhere near as bad as Calcutta ( =Tijuana if it was hit by a bomb).
Funny as Hell'o.......2006-08-24
Too funny. Send a copy the mexican border, both sides should see this movie!

Customer Reviews:
One of the better sequels.......2007-06-11
Sequels are often lame imitations of the original, but City Slickers 2 keeps the atmosphere and much of the chemistry of City Slickers 1. The acting is excellent, especially Jack Palance (as usual). The "Indiana Jones" mine ride is a bit corny, but after all, the storyline is a fantasy anyway! If you enjoyed the first one, you will like City Slickers 2. The video and sound quality on this sequel is somewhat superior to the first one.
Awesome movie!!!.......2006-09-17
I actually saw this movie before I saw the first one. I loved it so much though! It is really a funny movie and the cast is phenominal! I was a little disapointed that Bruno Kirby wasn't in this one but the character Glen soon replaced that. Its a really awesome movie and should be watched again and again and again...
Great movie!.......2006-05-29
I have seen this movie on HBO and it is cool!Rated PG-13 for a comic sex scene and off-color humor.
Clueless-But Funny Characters.......2006-04-29
I don't have a problem with sequels because many times I find them more appealing than the original. This is another example, although not a wide margin. The first was good; this is a little better.
Despite being almost two hours which is long for a comedy, this moves very fast. That's the selling point of the movie: it's entertaining. Not only do you get a comedy with a lot of laughs, you get brilliant Western scenery enhanced by the widescreen DVD.
The negatives, at least for me, was the all-too-secular outlook on life and an obsession with sex espoused by lead actor Billy Crystal and his clueless buddies Daniel Stern and Jon Lovitz and the unnecessary profanity by Jack Palance.
All the characters, however, are definitely fun to watch and there is a good message in the end about sacrificing for friends and relatives. The story also features a very neat twist at the end. This is a film you can laugh at with multiple viewings.
"What do you think of that, Spanky?".......2006-03-16
Here comes . . . something different.
In the first city slickers, you are introduced to mitch who is a buisness man trying to do something different with his life and joins a cattle drive with his friends. Along the way he learns about life and morals from his cattle drive buddy Curly. Unfortuneatly, he died during the cattle drive and had to be buried by his friends.
Fast foward a year later.
After realizing that he's now forty, he decides to have no surprises on his birthday but gets one very big one instead: A map in Curly's hat that was given to him.
A treasure map from the 1900's to be exact.
And what's more surprising is the fact that Curly, although he was buried for a year, might still be alive.
This is a great sequel. A different pace, mood, setting, theme, everything. That's what you gotta do with a sequel; try something different.
I loved watching mitch and his buddies figure out the clues while battling claim jumpers and avoiding dangerous territory.
There's gold in them there hills . . . and Curly's buddies are just the ones to find it.
Enjoy!

Some of the most endearing stories the world has ever known are contained here in Walt Disney's TIMELESS TALES VOLUME TWO. You'll fall in love with the title characters in the two Academy Award(R)-winning shorts "Ugly Duckling" and "The Country Cousin" (Best Short Subject, Cartoons, 1939 and 1936) and revel in the hilarious antics of Mr. Toad in "The Wind In The Willows." With dazzling animation, unforgettable music, and time-honored themes about facing responsibilities and liking yourself for who you are, this collection of four stories is a must-have for every child's video collection.
Customer Reviews:
Totally Enjoyable!.......2007-04-14
The older Disney cartoons are still the best. Many have not been seen in years and are now available. I relish every moment watching this DVD. Ferdinand The Bull has always been a favorite. Now I have it forever.
Disney's Timeless Tales, Vol. 2.......2007-02-15
Reminded me of old times. Great DVD to have for the children.
Unrestored RE-release of shorts from the TIN releases........2005-08-18
***** Five Stars for the cartoons themselves! I give the low *** three start rating because WE ALREADY HAVE THEM ON DVD!
This collection is a cheaply put-together, un restored, re-release of cartoons from the DISNEY TREASURES TINS! THESE ARE NOT FROM THE SAME MASTERS! So why buy something you already have?
1) THE UGLY DUCKLING (1939) also on the "Disney Treasures: Silly Symphonies" DVD release.
2) COUNTRY COUSIN (1936) also on the "Disney Treasures: Silly Symphonies" DVD release.
3) FERDINAND THE BULL (1938) also on the "Disney Treasures: Rarities" DVD release.
4) WIND IN THE WILLOWS (1949) segement from the feature Icabod & Mr. Toad. Amazon sells the entire feature for just $15.99
With the Disney Treasures DVD releases on limited availability, I guess Disney hopes those who missed out will buy these 4-cartoon discs. The low price is misleading, when you break it down to individual cartoon cost this release is EXPENSIVE!
And no extras!
Cartoons on Disney's Timeless Tales, Volume Two.......2005-07-31
This DVD includes The Country Cousin (1936), Ferdinand the Bull (1938), The Ugly Duckling (1939) and The Wind in The Willows (1949). The Wind in The Willows was the first of the two animated sequences that are formed together to make The Adventures Of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949).

Norah Jones's growth as a performing artist since she burst on the scene in 2002 is apparent on Norah Jones and the Handsome Band: Live in 2004, her second concert DVD (following Live in New Orleans, released in '03). The gifted singer-pianist-songwriter is still something of a reluctant headliner; personable if not exactly effusive (and seemingly bemused by the adulation), she's self-effacing and winningly unpretentious onstage. That goes for the music as well, as Jones and her empathetic band (now including guitarist Robbie McIntosh, formerly of the Pretenders and Paul McCartney's band) put on a tasteful, understated show at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. Songs from her second CD, Feels Like Home, are favored, along with a version of the Grammy-winning "Don't Know Why" that's received with near-reverence by the audience. Jones's choice of cover material, including tunes by John Prine ("That's the Way the World Goes 'Round"), Tom Waits ("The Long Way Home"), and Gram Parsons ("She," which is among the several bonus tracks; other extras include two videos and three "mini-documentaries"), is also admirable, but it's when her various guests show up that the show approaches genuine transcendence. Among them are Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, who harmonize beautifully with Jones on Townes Van Zandt's "Loretta," and the indefatigable Dolly Parton, whose duet with Jones on bassist Lee Alexander's bluegrass-flavored "Creepin' In" is the undisputed highlight of the show. Radiant, ebullient, and in great voice, Parton is a star, and Norah defers to her accordingly. The only problem comes when Jones and company have to pick up where Parton left off, and in truth, it takes them a while to recover. --Sam Graham

Jazeps.......2007-05-11
this is the vorst video (from the two 2003 year dvd and 2004 year dvd) - because there are not the best hits, "come away with me" and others, and the video is teken withot taste (bad video operator and editor work), it is not great pleasure to watch, not like dvd from 2003 year. the band plays very good, but their behavior did not fascinate me, it seems to bee too artifical. the bad thing is that both video are in very poor quality, video compresion makes it impossible to get good sight when loked on big tv, or projected on the wall. so, i am a big fan of the old dvd, and highly recomend it - ("live in new orleanes 2003"). i just bought both because they were cheap:)
sory for my weak english:)
Great!.......2007-03-11
Great DVD! I am hoping the wife and I will get to see her live some time soon. Until then, I will be watching this DVD.
Not everyone is Cher. Let us give thanks........2006-05-30
Norah is just Norah on this dvd and that is way better than 99.9% of the singers doing concerts and/or dvd's at the moment. There is not a single lightning flash or even a smoke grenade. It is just Norah and a terrific group of musicians doing what they do so well.
I found no problems with the sound (referred to by others) on my 6.1 system. First-rate purchase imho.
Snorah Live..again...the girl needs to stay in the studio.......2006-04-04
Ms. Jones continues to lack any spark onstage. Can't her management persuade somebody like Lyle Lovett to teach her how to connect with her audience and be a performer, because Ms. Jones clearly hasn't a clue about stage presence. I've seen her live and this DVD captures the impersonal, mechanical blandness of her concerts - only her concerts are even less engaging...at least the DVD production folks added whatever production spices they could.
The Sun Can Touch The Moon!.......2005-09-07
Is it necessary to address Jones's talent? It's been lauded by kings, queens, servants, sailors, landlubbers, and plebian music lovers everywhere. And on this DVD it blossoms with each track performed, whether she and her handsome band are in front of an audience or on stage in an empty auditorium. You presume much should you believe she is aware of her singular charm, her extraordinary sensous appeal, or her exotic beauty, all of which are mixed perfectly with the last remnants of her lost adolescence. You may not be aware of the smile on your face, or the fact that your foot is tapping to the music, or that you're feeling happier than you were a few minutes ago, but you'll know that you are witnessing someone and something very special. Listen to Nora Jones and her handsome band and you'll begin to believe that the sun can touch the moon!

Live in Reno is a solid overview of an admirable career, even if this Gordon Lightfoot is not what he once was. The singer-songwriter, 61 when the 90-minute show was recorded in April 2000, looks gaunt, and his distinctive voice is on the frail side. Still, he has accumulated a remarkable catalog of material over the course of some four decades, and nearly all of the biggies are among the 22 songs performed here by Lightfoot and his four-piece band, from the early classics popularized by other artists ("For Lovin' Me," "Early Morning Rain") to his own best-known hits ("If You Could Read My Mind," "Sundown," "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald"). There are no theatrics or flashy production values, just a group of middle-aged men playing their music--and playing it well. So even if it's not especially exciting, fans will be satisfied. --Sam Graham
Description
Rarely do singers have the kind of voice that can touch your soul--Gordon Lightfoot is one of the rare ones. His tender vocals on "If You Could Read My Mind" and his lonely cowboy rendition of "Sundown" can melt your heart. He is also one of popular music's most timeless songwriters, building an amazing career spanning rock, folk and country. Continuing to write songs and tour around the world, this five-time Grammy nominee sings many of his hits in this very special concert from Reno, Nevada. Songs: Don Quixote, I'll Prove My Love, The House You Live In, Sundown, Carefree Highway, Restless, Blackberry Wine, Medley: For Lovin' Me/Did She Mention My Name, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, Waiting for You, Fading Away, Rainy Day People, Shadows, If You Could Read My Mind, A Painter Passing Through, Make Way for the Lady, Early Morning Rain, Baby Step Back, Song for a Winter's Night, Canadian Railroad Trilogy, Old Dan's Records, Cold on the Shoulder.
Customer Reviews:
Great songs / Bad video.......2007-01-24
I have some serious complaints about this DVD, and they definitely aren't related to the songs. Gordon Lightfoot has so many great music releases that I'd recommend getting his complete catalog on CD before moving on to try this DVD. Many of my objections to the video are based on the crowd and the venue. There's sort of a tourist-like, supper-club, over-the-hill vibe to the Reno crowd, as if a bunch of vacationing gamblers were trying their best to follow along, but they just couldn't keep the beat if their lives had depended on it. It's obvious that Gordon Lightfoot doesn't look great here, but the blame for that goes back to the venue, and the producers and the overall decision to use this particular site as the show for the DVD. The whole place is lit so brightly that nobody looks good. The setting seems way too commercialized for Gordon's taste. I've seen Lightfoot look much more at home in more intimate concert surroundings. I was so shocked by the glaring appearance of this DVD that I turned off the TV and turned up the music, and on that level I still enjoyed the performance, but that approach makes the video essentially pointless. Even with all of my criticism, I still think that this has some value, and it has to do for now, but considering how many great shows he's done in so many better settings, I don't understand why this show was chosen for the DVD release. In my opinion Gordon Lightfoot is one of the best songwriters of the era, who will be appreciated for as long as people are listening to music, so there should be some great visual document of his concerts. I hope that someone rescues something from the vaults, and I hope that someone still gets a better video from his current shows.
LIVE AND SOUNDING GREAT!!!.......2006-09-30
Having purchased this DVD recently it has become a favorite of mine and is outstanding!!! Like a fine wine that only gets better with time Gordon Lightfoot shines on stage. The audio and picture quality are excellent. Gordon's vocals are in perfect pitch and filled with emotion only he can deliver. Every Gordon lightfoot fan should own this DVD!!!
One of A Kind!.......2006-07-08
This video should be in the collection of any devoted Lightfoot fan because, as far as I know, it is the only video that he has made. All of the songs are classics and the pictures of the band members using their instruments for the special effects we have heard for years on recordings, are fascinating!
I saw him (not in Reno)!.......2005-10-19
I still can't believe it happened. I saw him in on a magical night in September 2002 at Jackson Rancheria (California). It was even better with my mother sitting next to me, who had raised me on his music. We enjoyed seeing and hearing him. We thought we might have seen the last of him, after hearing of his serious illness following the appearance. The guy's a fighter, and we hope he'll stick around for a long time. Thank you so much Gordon!
Always a class act.......2005-10-13
No glitz just authentic, enduring talent. I just finished watching Gordon Lightfoot-Live In Reno and am as thrilled with this man's gift as ever. He has been my favorite for over 40 years. Great band, my favorite songs, his guaitar. I didn't want it to end but now I don't have to. I can watch him anytime I want and I will want to watch all the time. For his fans, this DVD is a must. You will remember why his music touched you so deeply. Thank you Gordon Lightfoot.

Elvis plays a roughneck country boy, seething with hostility but gifted with literary talent. In the occasionally precious Clifford Odets script, this comes across as James Dean by way of a Thomas Wolfe novel--and not a bad shot at respectable acting by Elvis. His monologue about his dead mother, delivered to sympathetic shrink Hope Lange, is one of the most affecting things the King ever did in a movie. The songs are kept to a minimum, and Presley has some good, thrumming energy with the young Tuesday Weld (bad girl) and Millie Perkins (good girl), two uncommonly smart actresses. This is one of many Hollywood melodramas suggesting the angst brewing beneath the prosperity of the Eisenhower-Kennedy era, and it holds up decently, if not spectacularly. For Elvis fans, it's a poignant glimpse at a performer still in the young-buck stage of exciting possibilities. --Robert Horton
Description
Possibly the sexiest of all of The King's movies, this film finds Elvis playing a backwoods delinquent blessed with great literary talents with Millie Perkins as his childhood sweetheart. Co-starring Tuesday Weld.
Customer Reviews:
A singer who can act? Or an actor who can sing? You be the judge!!.......2006-03-21
Although I don't feel that this is one of Elvis' best efforts, there is still something about this movie that draws you to it!
A more serious role, than his usual musical performances, he comes across as still being a little raw, but I still enjoyed it, all the same.
There were fine supporting roles played by Millie Perkins as his girlfriend Betty Lee, Tuesday Weld as his cousin Noreen, and Hope Lange as his psychiatrist.
Tuesday Weld has come a long way since her debut, playing the teenage daughter of Danny Kaye ("Red Nichols") in The Five Pennies, and put in a very good performance.
Millie Perkins also delivered a sound performance. I enjoyed her role as much as I did in the movie The Diary of Anne Frank in which she portrayed "Anne Frank".
Hope Lange is always enjoyable to watch, and that is the case here again in this movie.
Although not ranked as high in my all time favourite Elvis movies, it is still worth the watch, and a good movie to have in your collection.
One of Elvis' Better Movies.......2006-01-02
This is one of the better films that Elvis made after being released from the army in 1960. The quality of the acting and the songs are both very good.
***Check out King Creole(1958) and Jailhouse Rock(1957)***
Wild in the Country.......2005-11-05
I really enjoyed watching this movie. I am a Elvis Presly fan.
Elvis' best SAFE dramatic role........2002-11-09
When I say "safe", I mean where Elvis does not killed in the end like in "Love Me Tender", and "Flaming Star." This something that's much better and I prefer a whole lot. Elvis has not one but three female costars: Hope Lange, Tuesday Weld, and Millie Perkins. I don't know about you but he gives an equal amount of attention to every one of them except near the end when he focuses more on Hope Lange. I love the songs which are: "Wild In The Country", "I Slipped, I Stumbled, I Fell", "In My Way", and "Husky Dusky Day". My favorite line is when Elvis as Glenn Tyler says "This routine of yours could stagger a billygoat." That's one of his best lines. All Elvis fans should see this once in their lifetime. It's a must!
Wild In The Country.......2002-07-31
Wild In The Country would offer Elvis his last serious role in a film by a significant director (Philip Dunne). Elvis portrays Glenn Tyler, a southern boy from a rural, poverty-stricken background, who has just been released from juvenile hall. Central to the character of Glenn is that the brooding young man is at a crossroads in his life, and he must choose the path most suitable for him. His choices are represented by three women. Noreen (Tuesday Weld) is Glenn's cousin who urges him to stay with his own kind. Noreen offers passion and good times, but such a carefree existence allows little thought for the future. Betty Lee (Millie Perkins), who is Glenn's childhood sweetheart selflessly places Glenn's future above her own needs, urging him to leave town and attend college. She is prepared to lose him that he may have an education and a secure future. Hope Lange costars as Irene Sperry, the court-appointed psychiatrist assigned to Glenn's case, who recognizes in him the raw talent of a budding writer. She also encourages Glenn to attend college but causes scandal when she falls in love with him. Glenn ends up following Betty Lee's advice and asking her to wait for him.
With a strong supporting cast including a young Tuesday Weld who was only 17 years old during the film's production. She was one of the hottest and wildest starlets in Hollywood and already had romances with two of of her costars in the film - Elvis and Veteran Actor John Ireland.
Produced for Twentieth Century Fox by Jerry Wald. Released June 22, 1961. Color.

Customer Reviews:
Great Concert!.......2007-05-15
Great DVD of one of Shania's best concerts ever! Though, not as good as seeing her live and shaking her hand!
Great Pop-Country Music.......2007-02-16
I've been a fan of Shania Twain since her first album. I was never a big country music fan, but Shania's music crosses the boundaries of pop, rock and country. I'm a professional musician (drummer for Electric Prunes, Linda Ronstadt, etc.)and I thoroughly enjoyed this video presentation of one of her best live concerts.
Shania Twain - Up (Live in Chicago).......2007-01-10
One of the best "live" DVD concerts I've seen in some time.
Many out there are just average, but this one was extremely well done.
Very fine effort for Shania after just having done both the Grey Cup and Super Bowl halftime shows!.......2006-12-03
Fine LIVE Chicago Concert for girl from
Ontario, who actually (gasp!0 loved the
CFL and NHL growing up! She could have
REALLY impressed us at MYKwebTV by pul-
ling the hat trick and doing the halftime
of the ArenaBowl as well! Excellent set
of thunpin' Country, Rock and combined-
Pop songs here. Pick Up On It!

# Shania singing with a small Orchestra
% Shania playing the drums
The thing I really liked was when Shania asked these 3 little girls to come out and sing the opening of I'm gonna Getcha Good. Those little girls sounded like little angels. Also I enjoyed the part when Shnia was shaking evreyones hand and one girl in the audience was singing part of "She's not just a pretty face" into the Microphone. That girl is so lucky.
The saddest thing is that they don't have the videos and Interviews of Shania's visit to Chicago when she was not onstage. When they shown this concert on NBC and CMT, the best part was Shania getting to play for the Chicago Cubs baseball team for a day and going into the announcer's booth being the guest conductor and leading the crowd in Take me out to the ballgame. I loved that part. That was acually the highlight of Shania's visit to Chicago. It's sad they don't have it on this DVD. Still enjoy the video!
