Vin Diesel is no James Bond, and he doesn't want to be. That's why XXX announced Diesel as the adrenalin-junkie Bond of the PlayStation generation, copying the Bond formula so shamelessly that this action-packed silliness would be a Bond movie if it starred Pierce Brosnan. Reuniting Diesel with his Fast and the Furious director Rob Cohen, XXX has an attitude (if not a brain) all its own, plucking Diesel's Xander Cage from his celebrity as an extreme sports renegade, recruited by a National Security Agency big shot (Samuel L. Jackson) to foil a nasty Czech villain (Marton Csokas) who's eager to depopulate Prague with remote-controlled biological weaponry. Toss in a sulky, sultry Russian agent (Asia Argento) and you've got extreme Bond-age for anyone who thinks tuxedos are passé. With a handful of eye-popping action sequences, XXX launched a movie franchise with a cool guy, another cool muscle car, and plenty of box-office sizzle. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
Decent movie, if you are into James Bond movies on hyperdrive...........2007-05-06
Like the title of my review suggests, this is your classic spy/action/thriller movie that is geared toward the young non-thinking audience.
Having said that, it is still a good movie overall. Now lett's dissect the movie and see how well it does on the essential components of a good spy/action flick.
1. ACTION SCENES: Very good, sometimes bordering into the surreal, like the one in the mountaines where XXX is snowboarding just 30 feet in front of an avalanche, and nothing happens to him but all the bad guys die because they are on slower snow mobiles.
2. CHICK: Yelena (the Russian FSB Agent that is undercover on the Anarchy99 mafia group) is very convencing as a russian agent, a little thin for my taste but quite decent in her "russian accent".
3. THE BAD GUYS: Credible group of ex-Russian Special Forces turned rogue after the Chechen War. The only part that did not fit is at the end, where the leader (who looks like a grunge russian singer from the 90s) turns psycho with his plan to destroy the world's major cities with the "Silent Night" poison gas.
4. THE GUY: XXX does a all right job as the adrenaline junkie that "does not fear death". I find him a little bit too "cliche" for my taste, but I did laugh sometimes with his one liners, like the one when Yelena confesses that she has been undercover with Anarchy99 for 2 years, and he retorts, "what were you waiting for......for them to die of old age".
5. THE BOSS: Standard Samuel Jackson acting of his government agent-supervisor character.
Go ahead, watch it... , decent but not great.
Finally - a movie that doesn't skip past violent or sex scenes..........2007-04-02
I am so sick of movies that skip all the cool stuff! This movie has tons of violence, but not much blood, and LOTS of sex. There's a scene called "Tucking Xander into bed" When he comes in, there's candles everywhere and a drop dead hot prostitute is pole dancing on the bedpost of his canopy bed. Due to a combination of unfortunate and infuriating circumstances, I haven't been able to view past the part when he's walking toward her, taking off his clothes, and she's shaking her butt at him - I can guess what happens. In the next scene, Yorgi's in his room, and there're three naked prostitutes on his bed. They don't cover ANYTHING.
If you like movies that don't hide what goes on behind closed doors and veils, this version of XXX is for you. [I think it would be rated X - it's smart they didn't}
Exciting and well written action flick.......2006-11-19
I saw XXX: State of the Union before watching this, so I wasn't surprised by Xander's death. What did surprise me was how lame "The Death of Xander" sequence was. It made no sense. The way they worked around not having Vin Diesel play the role in the short was creative though.
This really could have been a modern James Bond movie. The opening sequences were exciting and Xander's character traits and growth were developed well. Although incredible, the action sequences in XXX are more credible than some in State of the Union. Sorry they killed XXX off. It would have been interesting to bring him back for a cameo in XXX-3.
I'm not sure how the Uncensored Unrated Director's Cut differed from the theatrical release, but I'd definitely recommend it to all action and secret agent movie fans.
Finally...An exciting action flick.......2006-11-17
The James Bond of the new milliniem, Xander Cage is adrenalin seeking junkie who often finds himself on the wrong side of the law. Persuaded by the US government to participate in a top secret underground mission in exchange for his freedom, Xander is off to Prague to try and foil an attempt by a rogue Russian terrorist to save the world. Sounds simple...it is! Sounds like its been done a hundred times before...it has!
But all the entertainment is in the action and stunts. While they are all unbelievable, Rob Cohen directs a highly addictive action movie that leaves everything else for dead. While Vin Diesel may not light up the screen (females will tend to disagree), most of his scenes are done by a stunt double, his performance as Xander does enough to warm the audience to him. Martin Szorkas plays a very good 'bad guy'. The ending was a bit of an anti-climax but still satisfying.
Please! It's Entertainment Not Reality!.......2006-08-14
There's only one reason to see this movie. Entertainment. It's just that simple. If you're looking for profound, this whole movie genre isn't it. If your looking for fast paced action, witty dialogue, an edgy sound track that compliments the plot... a wild, unique approach to stunts, and a totally unconventional, irreverent "secret agent"... then this movie is for you.
Vin Diesel makes a very entertaining, believable Xander Cage, but give him a break...this isn't a Shakespeare movie! It's a spy movie and does follow the genre rules, but not enough to make it like any other. Don't take it too seriously and enjoy the ride!

Description
Based on the explosive true story of a scientist with one dream: to build the world's most powerful weapon - and he doesn't care who the customer is. But when the Iraqis make the buy, a top secret elite team swings into action. ' 'Compelling - full of real-life mystery.' ' (L.A. Times)
Customer Reviews:
Amateurish.......2006-11-15
This film is proof that an excellent cast cannot rise above inferior scriptwriting, directing and editing. Most scenes of this movie struggle against a script that sacrifices character development to the conveying of information. Mercifully, this is most blatant in the first 10 minutes of the movie in which choppy editing jerks the audience from scene to scene in a series of pogo jumps that instruct us on the childhood aspirations and early professional career of the protagonist, Gerald Bull. The ticker tape of facts continues through what must be the most leaden performance of Kevin Spacey's filmography, as he intones yet more information needed to convince the viewer that this is surely a very exciting film. Add to this the director's dispiriting decisions to have Arab characters speak to each other in English, and to have pivotal moments preceded far in advance by crescendos from the orchestra, and we can only be thankful that the flim provides, at the very least, a useful history lesson.

watch this movie closely..It will show you all you need to know of the world of international espionage and those who play the great old game...This Movie truly expains how enemies are not really all that bad and how ones friend can be the monster lurking in the shadows..In my opinion the movies highlights the closing heyday of the Reagan-Bush international crusades and how the foot soldiers in the Intelligence field work ferverishly to fufill their masters agenda....And how a goverment can use, abuse, discredit and discard you if you refuse to play the game their way..This movie had a great cast, and was a real diamond in the rough. It has 2 parts. It highlights the genius of Gerald Bull,, and shows the darkside of a political agenda..
Here's to the engineers.......2005-08-23
As an engineer's son, I have never seen a better portrayal of an engineer's enthusiasm for new problems and new challenges. In one unforgettable scene, Frank Langella brought to the screen for the first time in my opinion what can only be called, "the-joy-of-development."
Too often films that deal with invention focus on that moment when the problem comes together and is solved. What they fail to recognize is the first step, when the men and women are looking at the challenge ahead, has even more emotional potential.
Thankfully the writers and actors in this film did not forget this human truth.
The cast is excellent. The script is uneven, but the only reason this is obvious is because instead of staying mildly good throughout, like most made for cable films, this movie is mildly good with occasional scenes of brilliance; such as almost any moment what Langella or Spacey grace the screen.
If you are an engineer or just have one as a friend or member of the family, see this film. It's a wonder.
A wonderful film.......2004-02-09
This wonderful film tells the story of Dr. Gerald Bull, a genius engineer who modeled his `superguns' after the German Hengersutzer from WWI. His theory was that large guns could deliver payloads into space at more economical levels then rockets. Unfortunately his contracts were cancelled with the Canadian government and he became a freelance defense artillery expert, helping the S. Africans and Israelis and finally being hired by the Iraqi's in the 1980s to build a giant gun capable of hitting Tel Aviv or Tehran from Baghdad. This wonderful film portrays Saddam Hussiens regime in its heyday, when it was not a pariah and the Americans supported it. Wonderful acting by Alan Arkin, who plays an intelligence officer assigned to tracking Bulls movements in the West compliments the film. Simply a gem, a diamond in the rough, you will not be dismayed by this great subtle historical film.

Time capsule.......2007-02-12
This movie deals with a time period long past, and it is hard to take it seriously. The main character is played by Linda Hamilton, an actress who epitomizes the 1980ies and who I just happen to like. She plays an innocent Russian girl who is recruted into a kind of an academy and turned into a "bait" for Americans targeted for blackmail schemes by the Soviets. Nobody cared about authenticity as far as the Russian settings are concerned, but the moral conflicts the heroine runs into are handled with tact.
The Coolest Cold War Movie of the 80s.......2006-05-27
For you Cold War movies buffs out there, this one is a jem. I saw that as a kid on TV, and since then remembered one of the scences : "What's Americans religion ?" "Protestantism ?" "No, sex". Linda Hamilton, Geena Davis and Sally Kellerman are just great. Here, You have all that so cheesy "80s ambiance" that's SOOO cool. The reason I Put 4 stars instead of 5 is the picture quality, which is terrible and the absence of any bonuses, or subtitles (I'm not native from the US). Besides that, you just have to watch this with friends and have a great laugh.

Description
As the allies gathered their strength and resources for the invasion of mainland Europe, the V1 and V2 - Hitler's flying bomb and deadly long-range rocket - rained death and havoc on an already-devastated London. But the capital was not so easily intimidated as they failed to alter the course of the war.

Hitler's Secret Weapons.......2006-03-16
Another good account from the War Zone. I felt that there was not anything done about the Jetplane and Tiger Tanks.
A very excellent story of the Long-Range-Rocket that would have been sent to New York or Washington if Hitler had not lost the war.
If Hitler used these weapons againist military targets instead of civilians he might have had a fighting chance to win the war.
Thank God for Hitlers sick ego and his revenge for London that he did not use them properly.
A good account of V-1 and V-2 weapons from eagle media.

convincing presentation.......2006-10-27
Patrick MacNee, the narrator on this DVD, does a fine job in presenting the things covered. If one has seen the TV series 'The Avengers' with MacNee as John Steed and his female partner Diana Rigg (Emma Peel), one wonders if he has been into these secrets all his life.
The DVD starts with identifying the order of the Knights Templar and the Priory of Sion. The order of the Knights Templar became the Church inside the Catholic Church. MacNee however presents facts that The Knights Templar became influenced by evil forces, after they had found highly valuable documents during excavations underneath the Temple Mount (Hence the name Knights Templar). The influences were of Arabic and Turkish secret order assassins. To this day no-one knows what really was found. After King Philippe IV the Fair had taken back possession of the Templar assets in France, they were forced underground. It was this event that made The Order of the Knights Templar the arch enemy of the Catholic Church. To this very day a serious vendetta is going on between the Jesuits and the Templars and related secret societies. The Bavarian Illuminati, founded by Adam Weishaupt is described by MacNee as the secret society ruling all other secret societies, like one ring to rule all other rings. The evil plot by Weishaupt's Illuminati, a New World Order and total control over mankind, is well within reach today. The signs are very very alarming. The rest of the DVD then details how the Illuminati infiltrated the KGB in the former USSR, and how the KGB in turn infiltrated the Vatican. Although "The Davinci Code" adepts might look strange to this explanation, i am convinced that this is exactly what has happened. The 1000 year vendetta between the Vatican Catholic Church and the Templars seems complete, where todays Vatican is totally corrupted from the inside. MacNee presents very convincing evidence illustrating this.
If one realizes that "The protocols of the learned elders of Zion" are in fact a protocol book for the Illuminati, the following quote is rather revealing when one knows about the vendetta between the Jesuits and the Templars:
[...]
PROTOCOL No. 5
MASSES LED BY LIES
"4. Moreover, the art of directing masses and individuals by means of cleverly manipulated theory and verbiage, by regulations of life in common and all sorts of other quirks, in all which the GOYIM understand nothing, belongs likewise to the specialists of our administrative brain. Reared on analysis, observation, on delicacies of fine calculation, in this species of skill we have no rivals, any more than we have either in the drawing up of plans of political actions and solidarity. In this respect the Jesuits alone might have compared with us, but we have contrived to discredit them in the eyes of the unthinking mob as an overt organization, while we ourselves all the while have kept our secret organization in the shade. However, it is probably all the same to the world who is its sovereign lord, whether the head of Catholicism or our despot of the blood of Zion! But to us, the Chosen People, it is very far from being a matter of indifference."
Angels and Demons revealed is a convincing presentation of evidence and its sinister conclusions.
Ummm.. OK.......2005-08-13
Like others have said, this really had nothing to do with the book. It was an in-depth (if not slanted look) into secret societies. I was hoping for a little more history on the historical places that the book described. There is a major slant to this DVD and honestly, if you are looking for a description of the places and organizations in the book, you need to look elsewhere. This book should be called "The Secret Societies"..
New World Order, Old World Evil.......2005-08-09
There's nothing new about the new world order discussed in the movie "Angels and Demons Revealed." I watched the documentary twice on pay-per-view because I know everything in it has merit. I'm sure those who support the beliefs of the Illuminati and the other secret societies want us to think "A & D R" is a big joke -another whacky conspiracy theory with no basis in truth. I don't think so.
I am a journalist and I know there are things that are deliberately kept out of the news, persumably because the public will panic or cannot handle certain truths. Nothing could be further from the truth. The public today is informed and aware. That's why larger numbers of people are starting to see through the whole charade that caused the invasion of Iraq when the terrorists we were supposed to be after were in Afghanstan.
We are not fools and "A & D R" treats us like the intelligent public we are. I guess when the members of Bilderberg group, the Trilateral Commission, and the Council on Foreign Affairs orchestrate the next attack on innocent American people to perpetuate the myth that there are rabid terrorists out there that "hate us for our freedom" more people will start to believe.
Fear is the tool that is used to control us. When we are not afraid, that tool becomes useless. Information like that shared in "A & D R" erases our fears and increases our awareness and our outrage. As a nation we support our troops without question (they are pawns of the power elite just like the rest of us), but more and more of us have stopped supporting the senseless and expensive wars that deplete our economy and needlessly take the lives of far too many of our citizens.
Hopefully, if those at the top decide to put more "terrorists" into action, fewer of us will react in fear and more of us will see the truth and not be fooled thanks to films like "A & D R."
Disappointing Papal Bull.......2005-06-04
I was very disapointed in this "revisionist history"!
Much is extremely "Bias"!
The Producers should remember the United States was founded by a "Freemasons Kabal". And I would contend the we are better off today for them!
The DVD attempts to incorrectly connect NAZI's and "Illuminati" and other "Secret Societies" (i.e. Freemasons and Templers). The only connection is they are exact opposites in their political beliefs. There is a very strong link to the "Thule Society"(Germanic Teutonic wantabees) on the other hand which the DVD Producers completely overlooked.
From there the Producers try to create a Conspiracy involing the Soviet KGB,GRU and western "Illuminati". Need I say more!
Interesting, But..........2005-04-25
"Angels and Demons Revealed" is a bit misleading. This documentary goes into great detail regarding the historical background of several prominent secret societies that have appeared and disappeared throughout history including the Illuminati, Freemasons, The Knights Templar, the Assassins, and the Priory of Sion. These secret brotherhoods have often been credited with, or accused of, working behind the scenes of international affairs to influence the course of human history. The evidence for this, however, is often slim and ellusive.
The biggest problem with this documentary, however, is that it really has nothing at all to do with the book "Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown other than it deals with the history of the Illuminati and the Knights Templar. Both of these groups were very real, but the film puts a hugely biased slant on the story, choosing to portray them as evil underground organizations working to enslave mankind. It makes no mention of the fact that the Illuminati were themselves created in the late 18th century to promote knowledge and reason over church dominated superstition which had hindered these very Enlightenment virtues. And like the Illuminati, the Prior of Sion, if it ever truly existed, was alledged to have worked toward a similar and laudable goal. Hence it is reputed to have attracted the leading and most promising minds of their day: Issac Newton, Leonardo Da Vinci, Francis Bacon, and Benjamin Franklin. Whether or not the Priory ever actually existed is open to debate and the evidence is not encouraging. The film, however, makes great efforts to link these groups together and to paint them as part of a diabolical plan to create the dreaded New World Order. Would such men as Franklin, Hugo, and Debussy really work to create a sinister and opressive world regime? Questionable at best.
This documentary is interesting for its portrayals of the various secret societies that it investigates, but many of its conclusions are seemingly biased and highly questionable. It also, disappointingly, had little to do with the highly enjoyable novel that it purports to "reveal".

If you like movies that don't hide what goes on behind closed doors and veils, this version of XXX is for you. [I think it would be rated X - it's smart they didn't}

THE BOZ AND THE BUG.......2004-10-14
During a gathering of world leaders for an environmental summit at a national park in Oregon, a truck loaded with banned "binary" biowarfare agents plunges off a cliff, dumping its lethal cargo into a stream that empties into the Yellowstone River. Brian Bosworth brings his usual brand of humorous machismo to the role of Secret Service Agent to the President, who stumbles upon the spill while casing the place prior to the summit. With the help of a local veterinarian (played with little energy by Leah Pinsent), Bosworth finds some stricken campers, they both catch the virus, and are hospitalized in a fake hosptial set up by Petrodyne chemicals and the government. Somehow they've miraculously escaped the virus, break out and begin a chase scene through the Oregon wilderness.
The usual government cover-ups are present, along with the typical villains and so-called "patriots."
This movie lacks the usual high energy of Boz's other films and he seems a little worn out in this one (maybe it's the virus?). An entertaining, if derivative, film, that would be an entertaining rental, but I wouldn't buy unless you own a Bosworth collection.

Not what I was looking for........2001-12-03
This here is a good documentary but not exactly what I was looking for. Being used to A&E Documentaries, i was not completely satisfied with "Hitler's secret weapons".
Even though the photography is not that good, the movie tells us about the advancement in technology of Germany in the 3rd reich. Its quiet astonishing.
All in all, it's a good effort.
