It's hard to believe Ridley Scott's handsome epic won't become the cinematic touchstone of the Crusades for years to come. Kingdom of Heaven is greater than the sum of its parts, delivering a vital, mostly engrossing tale following Balian (Orlando Bloom), a lonely French blacksmith who discovers he's a noble heir and takes his father's (Liam Neeson) place in the center of the universe circa 1184: Jerusalem. Here, grand battles and backdoor politics are key as Scott and first-time screenwriter William Monahan fashion an excellent storyline to tackle the centuries-long conflict. Two forward-thinking kings, Baldwin (Edward Norton in an uncredited yet substantial role) and Saladin (Ghassan Massoud), hold an uneasy truce between Christians (who hold the city) and Muslims while factions champ at the bit for blood. There are good and evildoers on both sides, with the Knights Templar taking the brunt of the blame; Balian plans to find his soul while protecting Baldwin and the people. The look of the film, as nearly everything is from Scott, is impressive: his CGI-infused battle scenes rival the LOTR series and, with cinematographer John Mathieson, create postcard beauty with snowy French forests and the vast desert (filmed in Morocco and Spain). An excellent supporting cast, including Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, and David Thewlis, also help make the head and heart of the film work. Many critics pointed out that Bloom doesn't have the gravitas of Russell Crowe in the lead (then again, who does?), but it's the underdeveloped character and not the actor that hurts the film and impacts its power. Balian isn't given much more to do than be sullen and give an occasional big speech, alongside his perplexing abilities for warfare tactics and his wandering moral compass (whose sole purpose seems to be to put a love scene in the movie). Note: all the major characters except Neeson's are based on fact, but many are heavily fictionalized. --Doug Thomas
On the DVD
The Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut is truly a DVD set of biblical proportions. If you are familiar with Ridley Scott's excellent, albeit massive, extended DVD sets for Gladiator and Black Hawk Down, you have a pretty good idea of what you are in for with this set. The biggest difference--unlike the Gladiator Director's Cut, which had some nice new scenes that really didn't add much to the film--is that this cut of Kingdom of Heaven is a drastic improvement over the theatrical release. This extensive 194-minute version brings the film back to Scott's original vision, maintaining an impressive balance of history, plot, and believable period reenactments and battle scenes. The best way to describe the improvements on the extended version is the film is now able to breathe a bit more, it's less choppy, and it has stronger character development. In addition to the extended scenes (which now span two discs in a clunky Road Show presentation), there is an exhaustive three-hour, six-part documentary detailing every aspect of filmmaking from the development of the "idea" through post-production and release. Also included are three feature-length commentary tracks, the best being the first with Ridley Scott, writer William Monahan, and actor Orlando Bloom. Included on the original release but missing from this set are the A&E/History Channel documentaries, the theatrical cut of the film, and "The Pilgrim's Guide," the fantastic text commentary which pointed out the historical anecdotes as the film played. Fans of the film and completists will probably want to hold onto both versions. However, those picking up Kingdom of Heaven for the first time need only to look to this definitive version. --Rob Bracco
Description
Among the best directors of our time, Ridley Scott (Gladiator), contributes generously to this extraordinary Collector?s Edition of Kingdom of Heaven. Featuring his Director?s Cut of the film and hours of fascinating extras including a six-part tour from conception to completion of filmmaking this definitive set makes what Variety called a "genuinely spectacular" film even more so!
An epic marvel that's as beautifully acted as it is visually awesome, Kingdom of Heaven stars Orlando Bloom as Balian, a Jerusalem blacksmith who has lost his family and his faith. But when his father (Liam Neeson) shows him his destiny, Balian vows to defend his country, and in the process, falls in love, becomes a formidable leader, and steps forever into history
Customer Reviews:
Great way to waste your money !!!.......2007-06-28
This is one of the worst films ever made, maybe even worse than "Waterworld," if that's possible. The scenery is excellent, the costumes are great; but it all goes downhill from there. The story is this convoluted ridiculous farce about a blacksmith who suddenly becomes a knight and then falls in love with the Queen of Jerusalem...um...I think. Actually the story is so poorly told it's not clear who is who...but more importantly, I don't care because the story and the acting is so superficial I ended up hoping everybody would end up dying in a mass apocalyptic attack on the walls of Jerusalem. The script read as if it was written by a 7th grader who read a couple Skakespeare plays, looked at a couple "Medieval History" websites one night, and wrote a script, full of the most predicable trite cliche's ever written. The director has NO understanding of the crusades, and what they were about. He has the main character saying some trendy politcally correct jargon like "Jerusalem does not belong to one religion, but to all." There is not a single crusader who would have said that! And then at the end he vows not to surrender to the invading army, and then goes out and surrenders, and then everyone hails him as a hero because he surrenders. This movie is indicative of the whole mindset of the country where giving up fighting for something noble is better than fighting for what you believe in. Total trendy liberal ideology disguised as a historical epic. Don't waste your time or money on this silly over rated farce.
Kingdom of Deeez.......2007-06-27
The amount of development that went into this movie was amazing. I thought this movie was good in theaters...until I saw the directors cut which should have been in theaters...As a whole the movie made more sense in the directors cut...it made a good movie even better...longer but better... If you are into these types of films this is a must have...

Outstanding!!!.......2007-06-27
Absolutely amazing! The Director's cut is like an entirely new movie!! It doesn't matter what faith you claim, this movie does not choose sides. Truly one for the shelves.
And then some.......2007-06-27
When I saw this movie for the first time un cut it was fantastic. The HD version is far more than I had anticipated. The story is much more complex and makes much more sense. It seems the original release was a dumb-down version of the real story. Picture quality is amazingly clear with lush colors. Even if you have this movie on DVD it is worth getting for Blu ray. You dont know what you are missing
Well worth it........2007-06-27
The addional footage makes this a whole new movie. It explains the ties to Balian and the village better. The queen and her son. Much, much better!

If you are into these types of films this is a must have...
Check it Fooo!

Awesome DVD.......2006-07-17
This is a great DVD which covers the entire Holy Land. I'm really happy that I purchased this DVD, It's simply the best.
Experience the Holy Land at your home !!!.......2004-10-06
If you ever wanted to experience the Holy Land of Israel - the land of Jesus Christ and the prophets, sitting at your home, you couldn't have asked for a better DVD. I have seen many DVDs on the Holy Land, but this one really ranks as the best. Capturing the essence of the Holy Land, this spectacular DVD makes the sights and sounds of the Holy Land come alive. Exciting and informative, it carries you on a journey back in time and retraces from the beginning to Jesus and up until today, many of the important places and events in the Bible. There are locations of Old Testament like Beer Sheba, Hebron, Egypt, Jericho, Mt. Carmel, Jaffa, Ashkelon - to name a few. The tombs of Patriarchs and Matriarchs of Old Testament are also shown in the DVD. A major portion of the DVD has been devoted to the places of New Testament. The documentary exhibits many churches erected throughout the Holy Land marking special events described in the New Testament which attract millions of pilgrims all over the world. One can stand in faith to witness the star of Bethlehem (the traditional place where Jesus is said to have been born) in the holy cave beneath the Church of Nativity in Bethlehem. One can stand in awe and set his eyes on the streets of Via Dolorosa, the path Jesus followed carrying His cross and the Calvary where Jesus was crucified. One can stand up and praise the Lord while looking upon at the empty tomb of Jesus. There are many important places shown (like Lazarus's tomb, Garden of Gethsemane, Mount of Olives, the room of Lord Supper etc.) connected with the life of Jesus that I think every Christian must be a witness to. The documentary not only ends after Jesus but also goes further on to describe the important events happened in the history of Holy Land right up to the freedom of the state of Israel in 1948. At this time, I am reminded of the famous reply Philip gave to Nathanael in John 1:46 when the latter asked him whether any good thing could come out of Nazareth. Philip simply replied "Come and see". Well friends, this DVD is definitely worth seeing. Buy this title and share it with everybody. I certainly hope that this DVD will prove to be as much a blessing to you as it has been to me!!!
PS - To experience the Holy Land of Israel with all its majestic landscape in a hardcover, I strongly recommend the beautiful book "Images of the Holy Land" by the Israeli photographer Hanan Isachar (ISBN: 9652800856). Further, if you are genuinely interested to know about amazing discoveries on Noah's Ark, Real Mount Sinai, Red Sea Crossing Site, Sodom & Gomorrah and Ark of the Covenant, I strongly recommend that you go to the website of Wyatt Musuem which has all these discoveries covered on DVDs (just search it on any search engine like yahoo or google. Unable to mention it due to restrictions).
Worthwhile effort........2004-05-21
I am happy with my purchase of this DVD. It tells the entire bible story, (from old testament, thru the time of Jesus, up to today), with moving picture depiction of the places biblical events occured and what is there now (many times a church). There were a couple things I thought werent perfect: at times the visual image was a bit digitally choppy and not fully clear; and, sometimes the narration was simply scriptural and I wasnt sure what we were seeing on the screen. But, overall, I believe it is an excellent effort, and a worthwhile purchase. After viewing it, I felt I had experienced a thorough tour of the Holy Land and it's history, with emphasis on Jesus.

Empires - Holy Warriors: Richard the Lionheart & Saladin.......2007-05-13
A sobering documentary in light of the current state of world politics.
Well crafted with small amounts of bias.......2006-11-04
I appreciated the style of the movie and thought it engaging, entertaining, and visually excellent. However, I disagree with the other reviewers that claim the movie is biased in favor of Richard the Lionheart. The cover of the dvd case states that Richard earned the name Lionheart "as much for his murderous brutality as for his chivalry." Saladin is contrasted from the outset for his "mercy towards the crusaders in contrast to the demonized caricature of popular modern-day Western myth." It seems that the intention of the DVD was to show Richard as more cruel than chivalrous and Saladin as more compassionate than cruel. The intent is therefore obvious and is carried throughout the movie that casts most blame for the crusades/bloodshed on westerners and the intolerance of Christianity. Richard, and westerners in general, compared far less favorably to the enlightened, more tolerant Muslims and Saladin. It was the Christian crusaders that intolerantly slaughtered the inhabitants of Jerusalem in the first crusade. It was Richard that slaughtered 6000 prisoners of war at Acre (as if over a delay in the negotiations for the true cross). Saladin is pictured as much more honourable and thoughtful. It was Saladin that showed the "moral superiority" of his religion by not slaughtering the inhabitants of Jerusalem. This was a not so veiled jab at the West's current political situation. It is quite possibe that Saladin only fairs less favorably to his own idealized reputation as a reluctant peaceful warrior. Both men sought power politically and both men coveted Jerusalem for religious and political reasons. It is quite obvious that the film did not set out to portray Richard as a brave chilvalrous man only wishing to please God. I think the DVD comes under fire more for its attempt at showing both men as political, religious products of their time than the men that we wish them to be--morally superior extentions of our own traditions.
i enjoyed this.......2006-07-12
i really loved this documentary, i don't pretend to be a scholar in either islamic or christian propaganda, but just really enjoyed the theatrical presentation of two men that history has lumped together forever. i think a lot of the other "reviewers" missed the point. this isn't about the crusades or religion, its about two men tied together by history and popular myth, for good or bad Richard the lionheart and saladin are like cats and dogs, peanutbutter and jelly, and yes, pickles and motor oil!!! well, maybe not pickles and motor oil.
An Engaging, Well-Done Account of the Shown-Down Between Saladin & Richard I.......2006-05-09
I found this documentary very compelling and well done. I particularly liked the actors who they cast in the roles of Saladin and Richard I (the Lionhearted). They looked perfect for their parts. The visuals were beautiful, there were some unnerving make-up (or dummy) special effects, and the narrator was easy to understand.
I disagree with those who thought that the documentary was biased in favor of Richard I. Most of the historical commentators in the documentary were Arabic and greatly favored Saladin's position, and even one of the English commentators said that Saladin was far more noble than Richard; that they came from "different worlds," that Islam is about tolerance, and that Christianity was very intolerant at that period in history, and that Saladin was too noble to comprehend Richard's brand of dirty fighting. They also glossed over the massacre of the survivors of the Battle of Hattin, but gave a fair amount of time to the massacre of the 3000 Muslims of Acre.
From what I have heard of Saladin and Richard, Saladin probably really was more humanistic than Richard, and the Crusades were not the highest point in Christian tolerance (not that it was the high point in Muslim tolerance either), and I think that this documentary makes it very clear which religious group attacked the other first, and who was nobler of the two great military leaders. Neither the Christians nor their leader look very good in this documentary.
In light of a certain amount of anti-Muslim sentiment in the West following 9/11 and the attacks in Europe, and the ensuing war, it is understandable that the makers of the documentary would look back on the Crusades and find fault in Western behavior. I just find it strange that so many commentators actually thought it biased in favor of Richard I.
The Crusades were a very morally troubling period for both sides to the conflict. There were noble leaders who arose in the midst of it, but no one national, ethnic, or religious group was free of blame for the bloody path that it took. This documentary, like many others produced by Westerners, turns the bulk of the criticism inwardly, and examines the role played by Europe in perpetuating the conflict.
Salah al-din versus the lion heart!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-05-06
Salah Al-din in a few words is a physician, a chemist, a theologian, and a noble warrior. The only truth that the documentary movie mentioned about Salah Al-din was that he did not slaughter the Christians of Jerusalem after liberating it from the crusaders and; by contrast, Richard (the lion heart) killed 3000 Muslim captures on the Acre gate. The movie tried to show Salah al-din as a blood loving warrior who uses God to justify for his blood loving. This is really contradicting the truth that Salah al-din did not initiate the war on European Christians (CRUSADERS), but he found himself obligated to fight them since they occupied part of his land. The movie used a false evidence to support the previously mentioned wrong claim_that is Salah Al-din fought already some Muslim neighbors to expand his empire!!!! Salah Al-din was already the legal ruler of the Muslims and; subsequenlty, it was so normal to fight the rebellers who tried to divide his kingdom. You can look at the situation as if the mayor of Illinois, for example, tried to separate the state from US. The normal action of the president will be fighting that hypothetical mayor and retrieving the state with the lowest possible fatalities; this is exactly what Salah al-din did. The story of the relic cross that Salah al-din kept as part of his property after demolishing the first crusaders' campaign is really a fairy tale!!! Even if that relic cross carried the blood of Jesus(Peace be upon him), does this reason justify for killing 3000 captures because Salah al-din delayed(according to the movie) exchanging a piece of wood, the relic cross, by the capturers!!!
The movie is really full of historical mistakes and used so poor scholars to show Salah al-din as a weak/coward/blood loving/bad example/image of bin laden or Sadam Hussein/can do anything(moral/immoral) to reach his goals,....etc in relative to an ideally holy warrior supported by god (ie Richard, the lion heart). The last point is no muslim considers Salah al-din as the most famous person after prophet Mohamed (PBU) as the movie calims; Salah al-din was a good muslim did his best to be a fair muslim in all aspects of his life. One of the advantages of the crusaders compaigns on the holy land was the mixing of eastern and western cultures(this point did not have been mentioned in the movie). Thus, after the crusaders retuned back to their homelands, they transferred a lot of eastern culture and traditions to Europe...Above all, the message of Islam and how islam coined the ethics of the noble warrior Salah Al-Din have been delivered to Europe. The movie could be much better if the producer(s) asked reputable Arabic scholars to comment on the events...

Description
From Ridley Scott, the visionary director of Black Hawk Down and Gladiator, comes this spectacular epic of courage, honor and adventure. Orlando Bloom stars as Balian, a young Frenchman in Medieval Jerusalem during the Crusades, who, having lost everything, finds redemption in a heroic fight against overwhelming forces to save his people and fulfill his destiny as a knight.
Customer Reviews:
Disappointing! Not what I expected. Average........2007-05-08
I guess I just expected too much before I watched this film. I am a student of medieval history, the crusades, and the Templars and I expected an intelligent film (which Ridley Scott usually produces). What I saw was an anti-war "epic" wanna-be.
The acting was OK. The battle scenes decent. The editing and camera work well done. The problem was the story. Historically, the film was surprisingly accurate, but the characters were not believable in this time period; specifically Orlando Bloom's character.
It was like a 20th (or now 21st) century man thrown in to a world of political, religious and social disorder. The time of the crusades was one of fanaticism based on beliefs that the only way to heaven was by being absolved of sin; the catholic church in their greed to rule the world, set out in a bloody conquest to destroy the Jews and Muslims in the Holy Land and the only way that they could get commoners to participate was to promise that heaven awaited them on the other side.
This was the dark ages (called that because it was before the age of enlightenment), a time when most people couldn't read, and even if they could, didn't have anything to read because everything was in latin, including the bible. People had to believe what the pope told them. If they didn't believe the pope, they had to do what their feudal lords told them to do (because the lords would have them arrested, killed, homeless, wifeless or childless if they didn't).
Essentially, this film tries to prove that men had free will in the dark/middle ages and history proves that this is not possible. Just as we cannot understand what it was like to live during the revolutionary war, the civil war, the hundred years war, or any other war from a previous time period, we cannot understand the massive, sweeping lack of power possessed by the individual during the time of the crusades. Only monarchs and clergy had power at this time and only they had the potential for understanding the political, religious climate of the day.
Even educated people of the time were stupid in the world of international relations because everything back then was based on personal greed, personal gain of the church and the monarchs.
Now, so far as those of you who claim that the movie is christian bashing, let me say this. DO SOME RESEARCH!!! The dark ages was a horrible time for the church, the catholic church especially. The church was controlled by evil men with agendas that did not include glorifying God. Heresy and Simony were rampant in and out of the church.
OK, so you don't care about the accuracy, and you just want a good action movie that takes place in the dark ages. Well then, this movie is for you.
It actually was a good movie with good acting and a good script. The problem that I have is that it just isn't believable with what I know about the time period. Had I not known about the time period, I probably would have rated the film higher.
So, in the end, what you have with this is a film that seems to be trying to make a point; that war is pointless. WELL, WE KNOW THAT. LOOK AT IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN.
What I don't understand is why this movie was made. It is entertaining, but at what cost. It does nothing to explain the period, the mistakes of the past. It is propaganda. I know, I expect too much. I will grant you that. Do what you will with this review, but I was let down by this movie. Too bad, really. It could have been a great movie.

Tragedy in the Holy Land: The Second Uprising focuses on the conflict in the Middle East exclusively from the point of view of the Palestinian people. Using standard documentary techniques, such as news footage, interviews with scholars, and commentary by visitors to the region, the long history of the conflict is chronicled in some detail. However, the film's content is so heavily slanted that it comes off as a strident denunciation of Israel and Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. The anecdotal evidence offered is often dramatic, but without a balanced airing of some very controversial material, a viewer really has no sound basis upon which to decide what is true and what is propaganda. It can be commendable to present material that may not be well publicized, and there's nothing wrong with a documentary advocating a point of view. However, this video raises more questions than it answers. --Robert J. McNamara
Customer Reviews:
Misinformation on all sides........2006-10-23
Robert Strange McNamara (born June 9, 1916) is an American business executive and a former United States Secretary of Defense. McNamara served as Secretary of Defense from 1961 to 1968, during the Vietnam War period. He resigned that position to become President of the World Bank (1968-1981).
Robert J. McNamara is a different man, who reviewed this DVD.
One needs to read several sources with differing points of view and cross check facts. One needs to look for consistency in the native tongues and English. Was Sharon consistent in his Hebrew and English speeches? Was Arafat consistent in English and Arabic??
Decide for yourself who is honest and who deceives. Decide for yourself who is educated to Hate and Kill, and who is has democracy for all and works for life!!
Decide for yourself who manipulates the press and controls reporters more.
Stupid is what Stupid believes.......2005-12-18
On the same par as "The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion". If you are racist, blind and complacent in your thinking, then this is a DVD for your collection. For a one sided attempt to glorify terrorists that blow up Arab and Israeli children, then you should buy this product and send a donation to Islamic Jihad.
FInally anohter side of the story.......2005-10-15
What do CNN, FOX News, AOL, USA Today, New York Times, Wall Disney company and the major media, radio and entertainment companies in the USA have in common?
First they are all under Zionist control, second they rule America.
There is no greater power in the world today than that wielded by the manipulators of public opinion in America. It is the media that elect Presidents and kicks them out of their office. They're the ones to distort the news especially about the Middle East.
Note that I also do have problems besides Zionism with Fascism, Muslim Extremist as all of these parties spread the hatred in the world among people.
The good new is that there are still very few unbiased documentaries that are making it. This is one of them.
You will surely find this documentary rated as one star no wonder who would have rated it that way! Watch it and decide yourself.
horribly biased film .......2005-04-16
This is a horribly biased film with an obvious agenda to make people sympathize with terrorists (not the innocent Palestinians) and condemn innocent Israelis (not the Israeli Army). A far cry from a fair documentary and there are several better titles if you're looking for real education on this issue.
The truth about the Israeli Palestinian conflict revealed.......2005-02-17
Superb documentary evidence and commentary on the conflict. I have read numerous book and documentaries about the conflict. This is cleary one of the best sources of information available. It is not propaganda or biased as many reviewers have stated. I would hate to see someone pass this one up because of angry biased reviews. This is a must for anyone who wants an introduction to what is really going on in the world outside the U.S. Good sound historical evidence is provided as well. Absolutely outstanding!!!!!

Product Description
Set in Israel, The Holy Land grittily portrays Mendy (Oren Rehany), a young rabbinical student who ventures outside the safety of his regimented religious life to experience the secular world. Mendy falls in love with Sasha (Tchelet Semel), a nineteen-year-old Russian prostitute he meets in Tel Aviv, but his love turns obsessive.
As he pursues Sasha, Mendy is befriended by Mike (Saul Stein), a former American war photographer who owns "Mike's Place," a Jerusalem dive bar where Jews and Arabs drink side by side. There Mendy meets Razi (Robert Illooz), an Arab wheeler and dealer and the colorful "Exterminator" (Arie Moskuna), an M-16 wielding American-born hard-line Jewish settler.
As Mendy becomes more and more involved with them, he begins to question his future and faith. But when Mike and Razi involve Mendy and Sasha in a shady smuggling scheme it proves to be the ultimate turning point in all their lives.

bad on so many levels.......2006-07-07
The acting is bad, the storyline even worse and worst of all it works with stereotypes and prejudices, like Arabs are suicide bombers even if they seem to be nice. I don't think you learn anything about Israel and its culture, except if you count a few shots of Jerusalem. The movie is the equivalent of a dime novel and plain bad with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
A powerful, if uneven, treatment of soul-searching among two very different Israeli youth........2006-06-30
Eitan Gorlin's semi-autobiographical work is worth seeing...if you don't mind some strong nudity. Techelet is mesmerizing, and Oren gives an appropriately spare performance.
The film does show the director's own ambivalence of his leaving Orthodox Jewish life. I think Mendy's choices, especially at the end of the film, show that his heart is still torn, but ready to return.
Pleasing.......2004-11-18
A little slow at some parts. HL is a charming movie on friendship, love and opposites. A really good Israeli movie.
Interesting plot....upsetting, predictable ending...........2004-10-29
I enjoyed this little indie film. I thought it was well acted, and had an interesting plot. The first half of the movie is definitely better than the second half. The ending was predictable and disappointing. But overall, give this movie a try.
Israeli background added interest to a rather silly story.......2004-10-22
This small independent 2001 film is set in Israel in the year 2000 (before things really got bad). It's a sort-of romance about a shy rabbinical student who falls in love with a young Russian prostitute. It's a silly story but the Israeli background adds interest and perspective as the audience gets to see a view of the Holy Land which is, in reality, it's underbelly. There's a strip club in Tel Aviv where the young woman works and is exploited by her employers. There's a bar in Tel Aviv owned by a drunken American ex-patriot where Arabs, Jews and unsavory individuals from around the world congregate. There's a hint of illegal smuggling and a lot of partying including drugs and alcohol. And, generally, the story is lightweight until the conclusion, which made me think that the author had written himself into a corner and didn't know how to get out.
I rather enjoyed the concept and the scenery. Acting was good and the young actress was pretty and some of the explicit scenes were fun to watch. But even though the film was only 98 minutes long, I found myself bored and wishing it would hurry up. Even though there was a hint of intrigue and of politics, it was only for background. And, unfortunately, the romantic relationship never really rang true. And so I can only give "The Holy Land" a very lukewarm recommendation.

yes god..............I hear you........2004-12-16
I do find myself finding Charlton Heston attractive, even in his later days of lively living..... Charlton Heston Presents the Bible has got to be his most memorial memory of the Charlton Heston line..... If there's only 2 in stock then I erge you to INSTANTLY make a coffee and order it! I've sat there many of a time watching this masterpeice with a tear in my left eye.
A Class Act.......2003-04-30
Charlton Heston really does a superb job in this wonderful presentation.
A great actor (and American) with great material!
What more can one ask?
Only the BEST.......2002-11-18
Charlton Heston who has thrilled me in BEN HUR (for which he won his Academny Award), THE TEN COMMANDEMENTS and my favorite EL CID is remarkable in this telling of the Book of Genesis. This combines his brilliant acting with the magnificent scenery of the Holy Land and it gives us beautiful music and works of art from great masters of the past as well.
What more can one want from entertainment: Inspiration, uplifting and enlightenment -- if you want more than that go to the Bible and read the real book of Genesis or the real Passion of Jesus.
Get this one and you will not regret it.
Heston brings the Bible to life.......2002-11-03
Charlton Heston is to be commended for his fabulous job in "Jesus of Nazareth". He brings the story of Jesus' life on earth to life as he shows us the places where Jesus lived and taught, while interweaving the appropriate Biblical narratives. Charlton Heston's dramatic readings give this DVD a truly emotional impact. A+++

I had almost forgotten how good the story of Genesis was. How could something this good slip my mind? Charlton Heston is one of greatest actors of our generation, but unfortunately, I can't think of any of the titles of his movies, at this time.
It has been years since I studied Genesis in school... so many years, that I had actually forgotten about many of key elements of the story. That's why I was so happy when I heard that Charlton Heston's presentation of Genesis would be available on DVD. The DVD provides all of us with a helpful reminder about just how powerful the story of Genesis is.
