Description
As the mid-July sun sets on one of the summer's hottest days, little groups of people gather to discuss the newest neighborhood scandal. Standing in front of a rusty brownstone in Manhattan's West Sixties, they gossip about all the tenants of the building, but especially Mrs. Marrant, who has been seeing the local milkman behind her husband's back. When Mr. Marrant takes a trip out of town, the two lovers have a tragic meeting when her husband doubles back, catching them together. The confrontation will change everyone's lives forever, especially the Marrant's beautiful young daughter Rose (Sylvia Sidney, in one of her first starring roles), who is left to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives. Presented by Samuel Goldwyn and based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama by Elmer Rice, who also wrote the screenplay, director King Vidor (Duel In the Sun, Our Daily Bread) has fashioned a raw, harrowing and powerful film with striking camera work by Academy Award-winning cinematographer George Barnes (Rebecca) and musical direction by nine-time Oscar winner Alfred Newman (Camelot, The King and I).

Description

Platinum-Selling Beef earned critical and popular success by exploring the history and evolution of verbal warfare in Hip Hop. From Busy Bee and Kool Moe Dee to 50 Cent and Ja Rule, artists got more and more personal, and their attacks became less and less about the music. From the Wax to the Streets, Beef brought those underground and sometimes violent beefs to your living room. Beef II continues that tradition of thoughtful, unbiased and entertaining Hip Hop journalism by bringing the new beefs in the game as artists call out the real gangstas in hip hop. From labels and lawyers to managers and media. Beef II captures the battles that often rage behind the scenes in the music business. The increasing popularity, profitability and commercialization of rap music has irrevocably changed the tradition of battling within Hip Hop culture. The true Hip Hop battle is no longer a fight to prove one's skills, but a fight to survive in this Billion Dollar Hip Hop Industry. Beef II features interviews with 50 Cent, D12, Redman, Method Man, Canibus, Royce Da 5'9", KRS-One, Nelly, Ice Cube, Mack 10, Cypress Hill, DMX, K-Solo, Sticky Fingaz, Fredro Starr, Parrish Smith, Kool Moe Dee, Angie Martinez, DJ KaySlay, Big Daddy Kane, Davey D, Cold Crush BroTHERs, Marley Marl, Roxanne Shante, Kangol Kid, Kevin Powell, Afeni Shakur and exclusive archival footage of Eminem, LL Cool J, Westside Connection, cypress hill and others. Beef II is a must-own for any true fan or follower of Hip Hop!

5 out of 5 stars Hott.......2006-06-17

Hot Beef flick. Only thing is they gotta show "Daz VS Kurupt" and "Kurupt VS DMX" and all those other beefs that never got really exposed. Overall, pretty good movie.

4 out of 5 stars Good job, crazy days.......2006-03-09

Is it just me or is KRS One like that spoiled kid in the toy store? "I want attention." That dude will stop at nothing to get it. Now I understand why Nelly said "It's too obvious" that he was trying to get the spotlight. I used to think KRS was cool, but once I heard him ask his fans to boo Nelly and boycott Nelly's album, I lost a lot of respect for that due. Boycotts and disrespecting folks at their concerts should be reserved for those who deserve it--at least let them be doing something negative. That beef was like two third graders and one of 'em was saying "I don't like him, so you can't either!" Speaking of that, must Mack 10 always be a groupie. I GAINED respect for Dub-C for staying out of the beef with Cypress Hill. )Note: I'm sorry, but Cube's version was better than Cypress Hill's version. But regardless of that, Cube was DEAD WRONG and I hope he apologized.) As for the clowns vs. Eminem, that dude made himself look absolutely stupid with those shirts talking about "... look good in these." That dude sounded like he was on some heavy drugs the whole time he was being interviewed and I don't understand why Eminem even asked them to be at that party. I thought Eminem was right to respond the way he did--he put some nobody's on a cover to try to promote THEIR career and now they're mad 'cause they were stupid enough to turn 'em down. GET OUTTA HERE! *rolling my eyes* I enjoyed the "Roxanne" beef...I had no clue who she was until I watched that movie, but I'm so NOT MAD AT HER for going all the way to a PhD. Gone girl!

3 out of 5 stars It's ok.......2005-12-02

This isn't as good as the first one but you still get some pretty good battles. The best one in my opinion is cypress hill vs. westside connection. Man that beef was vicious. Most of this dvd is about how bussines can turn former friends into bitter rivalries. You also see the roxanne battle, ice cube vs priority records, nelly vs. krs one and others. Well if you can find it at a video store and rent it first or find someone who has it and see it first before you buy it.

3 out of 5 stars "Beef 2" Review.......2005-11-28

The second entry in the "Beef" series follows with more in-depth explorations of classic feuds. This time, the beefs include D-12 vs. Royce Da 5'9, KRS-One vs. Nelly, DMX vs. K-Solo, LL Cool J vs. Canibus, Westside Connection vs. Cypress Hill, and plenty others. This time, it's hosted by Keith David. It's only drawback is the missing Eminem vs. Benzino segment which was removed from the retail version due to complaints filed by The Source magazine. If you enjoyed the first 'Beef", you'll want to see this one too. The interviews with KRS-One are worth it on their own. There's also a great story about Ice Cube going haywire in the Priority Records office.

BOSTON BEATDOWN VOL.2 (VARIOUS ARTISTS)

Amazon.com

Boston Beatdown, Volume 2 is either a shocking testament to the history of Boston's ultra-violent harcore community or raw material for an anthropological study of rock territoriality. Not exactly a documentary--a documentary has a point-of-view--Boston Beatdown is a rough compilation of amateur footage of young males (and some females) beating each other to a pulp, time after time, as hardcore enthusiasts wage war against anyone who isn't them at clubs and private gigs. Somewhere in the relentless bloodletting we hear the churning rage-rock of Blood for Blood, Death Before Dishonor, and Ten Yard Fight, and there are (academically speaking) fascinating interviews with past and present members of Boston's F.S.U. gang, which formed a decade or so ago to cleanse their turf of just about everybody. Among the horrors here is the film's palpable delight at footage of Moby being assaulted by several cretins on a Boston sidewalk. --Tom Keogh

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Not Enough.......2007-01-11

Although very real, it felt incomplete. It only gave a glimpse of the real hardcore culture and was riddled with bull about society. The real hardcore scene is very violent but with reason and logic behind each punch. Hardcore is ultimately about living life the best you can, the purest you can, and fighting for and adoring friends and family. There in lies the fallacy of the film, they show the crew (FSU)but not the motive. They are made out to be, well gang bangers, and in fact FSU may have turned that way that is not where the roots are that is not where it started, what it is, or what it used to be. Friends Stand United, not this jump an old man stuff but fight for beliefs. SIN crew forever (strength in numbers) no fooling around with gangs but having fun and protection those who cant do it themselves or those who are overwhelmed

2 out of 5 stars Forced Coitus loves hardcore..........2006-03-25

As many people realize, Forced Coitus is zealously opposed to the very existence of hardcore. Unfortunately, there is already an abundance of this debauchery out in the world. One can only wait for hardcore to follow the sorry route that nu-metal and metalcore have tread. Sadly, with bands like Hatebreed, Madball, Agnostic Front, and Comeback Kid out in circulation, it may take a little longer for this style of music to dissipate. But ranting against hardcore is difficult, simply because there is so much to rant about. It is hard to know just where to begin. So for my first installment, we decided the best place to start would be with a movie review.

Boston Beatdown Vol. 2 is probably one of the lamest documentaries ever made. Most people would say in its defense that this film is very low budget (which it most certainly is), and that is why it seems so crappy. However, that does not excuse the fact that there are very few interviews, all of which are uninteresting and uninspiring, and the repetitive concert footage is really quite annoying. Most hardcore kids we have met rave about this documentary, using the unoriginal defense that if you don't like the music or the scene, it is because you don't know enough about it or don't understand it properly. They go on to say that this movie will give you a better picture of what hardcore is all about. Even the DVD cover exclaims, "See the world through our eyes." Then again, the cover also has a picture of a hardcore kid with a gun to his head and someone decked out in camouflage and a ski mask. Another quote by someone who sucks at life is, "Most people are afraid of what they don't understand," and basically nobody understands hardcore.

Quite frankly, we don't see what there is to be understood about a group of pussies who use violence as an excuse to get respect without earning it, all the while bitching about how bad life is for them and literally blaming corporations and middle-class Americans for all their troubles. As if being successful without punching someone in the face is a bad thing. Whether you are scared of it, misunderstand it, or are just plain fed up with it, this DVD will not help your view of hardcore in the slightest. But why should it? There is nothing to be understood about monotonous interviews with Neanderthals who have no IQ talking about how much they love violence or by watching the same footage of idiots jumping of ledges, crowd surfing, or, supposedly, attacking Moby for no reason except that he exists (we don't remember Moby being hardcore, or ever doing anything to "disrespect" the hardcore community in any way). These people act like they are the most persecuted group in the world, thereby creating the need for them to rebel against society. Unlike other oppressed individuals in France or Lebanon though, hardcore kids hilariously shy away from causing any commotion as soon as the authorities show up. So, in the end, the hardcore kids either know enough to realize that they haven't a pot to piss in, or they are just cowards who feel that beating up their "inferiors" justifies their lame attempt at class warfare.

For more anti-hardcore, visit www.myspace.com/forcedcoitus

5 out of 5 stars Moby??? Who will they beat up next?.......2006-03-07

I love Boston Beatdown 2, especially the extended footage of that huge gash being sewn up. OMG that was so awesome. The best part though is the footage of them beating up Moby. I hope that Boston Beatdown develops into a series of videos documenting the guys beating up celebrities. How great would that be?? My vote is Justin Timberlake haha

2 out of 5 stars Waste of destrucitve energy.......2005-10-23

This claims to show the vibrancy of the Boston hardcore scene. Actually it teeters between being silly and incongruous (ie Why are 99% of these fights outside posh Lansdowne Street nightclubs? What's with the footage of the 2004 Red Sox riots at UMASS AMHERST?) and downright chilling (shot of a bathroom floor with 4 or 5 pairs of complicit stationary feet and a kid getting his face kicked in). Kudos to the FSU for "cleansing" the Boston scene of Nazis 10 years ago, but it's time to move on.

4 out of 5 stars i loved it.......2004-10-30

boston has one of the greatest hardcore scenes out there, and this dvd has the best bands out of boston its awesome i really liked the live shots of the bands and all the fights. cant wait till the 2nd one comes out!

F.E.D.S. features: The underground breeding, training, fighting and execution dens of the street's and hip-hop's official mascot, the pit bull; The home and hustle spots of one of the only Harlem hustlers to ever get out of the game and live to tell about it. Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A Sneak Peek Into Lives.......2006-07-02

F.E.D.S. gives a peek into interesting lives. I appreciate Pee Wee Kirkland's interview about Harlem streetball and the ups and downs of his life. I found the expanse on LA Bloods and Crips extremely interesting. While watching the DVD one actually feels like they get a sense of what is going on out there in "the streets."

1 out of 5 stars It kinda sucked..........2005-10-09

....I somehow, watched the whole movie all the way through but after viewing it, in its entirety..I was somewhat dissappointed. They the viewer said earlier, I was expected more raw footage but what we got was interviews.

Some of the interviews were interesting, some of the footage was interesting but some just aint gonna cut it in my opinion. I don't know why these people mislead us by saying stuff like "Uncut, Uncensored, Raw..." and knowing it's everything but that.

I give it 1 star because I felt like I was mislead and I would like my money back...

1 out of 5 stars it's aiighht.......2005-09-29

The movies wasn't what I expected. I thought it would be more raw, instead, it was full of talk and interviews. If you are looking for something like that, this is what you are looking for. If you are looking for raw footage, this is not for you.

5 out of 5 stars This DVD is the Truth.......2004-05-31

I've read the magazine a couple of times and really liked it but I'm really feeling this DVD. I like the mission. They seek to show you the truth of the streets (as far as crime is concerned) but it seems more fact based and not really glorifying it. If anything, the DVD shows kids what can really go wrong with the lifestyle that most videos seems to promote. In fact it's really interesting hearing real gangsters scream on these rap cats - they really hate how fake they are. I rented the DVD, but I definitely plan on buying it.

5 out of 5 stars Must see.......2004-05-12

Big fan of the magazine, waited for this DVD to come out for a second and it was just what I hoped it would be. In-depth looks at the world of pitbull fighting, the life and times fo Pee-Wee Kirkland and the history of the Bloods and Crips in L.A., along with a three-part series on the history of F.E.D.S magazine, and how it's revolutionized street reporting. The great thing, none of the people involved with this project try to glamorize street life, they just tell the truth and how drugs and violence has destroyed generations of people in America's inner-cities. The segment on pit-bull fighting will make you cringe, and wonder how people could treat dogs like that. A definite must see.

      Product Description

For over a quarter of a century, the great social phenomenon known as Hip-Hop has influenced more than youth culture; it's changed the way corporate America communicates and sells its products. Here you'll see the rituals and symbols of initiation into a secret passion that controls today's kids, a generation whose origins are in linguistics, criminology and self-invention. This film is about more than music; it's about the lifestyle, its psychology, and why we connect Beats, Sneakers, Jewelry, Girls & Money.

5 out of 5 stars Y'all have now been schooled..........2004-03-09

Completes the now holy trinity of hiphop documentaries (the first 2 being the show, and rhyme and reason). I like how everything is broken down for the viewer, a lot to learn here, for those who aren't aware of the business side of hip-hop, among other things. Since I got it, I've watched three times in 2 days!! Great work bonz malone!

5 out of 5 stars A must have for folks who love Cuba!.......2004-09-04

The Cuban Hiphop Allstars documents the Cuban Hiphop movement in its infancy, 200-2001. Most of the artists featured are on the first Cuban Hiphop compilation, with the same name; Obsesion, Anonimo Consejo, Explosion Suprema, Instincto, 100% Original, Pablo Herrera, Hermanos de Causa... as well as some great new talents, Papo Record, and Cuba's first straight up R&B girl group Sexto Sentido. Alafia uses interviews, cyphers, live footage and little viniettes where the rappers act out little scenes from there music to paint a colorful picture of this extremely vibrant, explosive movement in Havana. The piece has a real cinema verite feel and the music is great. I really enjoyed it. The extra scenes are interesting too, some live footage and more cyphers, including a beautiful scene where the rappers rap with drummers playing rumba and dancing in the street... EPIC CUBA!!!
