Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars What a great season.......2007-06-18

Season 3 of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES is leaps and bounds better then the second season.

The storylines this season are great.. Why did Orson hit Mike? Did Orson kill his ex wife? Will Gabby get married to a politician? Carlos and Edie?!

This season will keep you hooked, and won't let you down. The ladies, and gentlemen, all perform greatly. Felicity Huffman is arguably the best this season.

It is worth it to buy this set just for the episode, "BANG," which is one of the best episodes DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES ever had, and is probably one of the best episodes on TV. It is shocking, and Laurie Metcalf does a wonderful job in it.

This is one of the best shows on TV, so pick it up, and enjoy!

1 out of 5 stars What About STD's?.......2007-06-14

These old bats behave like streetwalkers, except they're not smart enough to charge for it. This toxic show gives our aging mothers and grannies the wrong idea. Do you want your grandma to get an STD? If they're going to have these badly aging old bats behaving like "Girls Gone Wild", they need to put some realism into the series. Perhaps, one could be infected with HIV.

3 out of 5 stars An improvement over Season 2, but still lacking.......2007-06-07

Desperate Housewives- Starring Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, Eva Longoria, Nicollette Sheridan and Kyle Maclachlan.

When Season Two finished critics had groaned, fans were disappointed, and over 2 million viewers tuned out for good. Was season two really that abyssal that it deserved every bit of criticism it received? Not exactly, but it was needed to open creator Marc Cherry's eyes and get him more involved in his creation, because clearly who ever stepped in wasn't sure what they were doing. So Cherry buckled down and cut his summer break short and got together with his team of amateur writers (except a select few) and tried to develop a more exciting, engaging, and explosive season other than the lackluster one we were stuck with last year. There were a few improvements made. When the season premiere played on my television set in September, I agreed with Cherry, he had gotten back on track. The characters were back to their old selves, Susan *had* a storyline, the mystery was mysterious, and the housewives actually got to have some scenes together. But there was the bad news, the dialog wasn't near as sharp, some storylines were completely unoriginal, and they stole the whole lunch scene from Sex and the City. I began to wonder if Desperate Housewives was another Six Feet Under, great for a season, lacks for a few more, and then becomes so dreary with infinite plot lines that didn't work from day one that you don't even want to know how it finishes because you don't care. There are of course a few things that made this season memorable, and some not so much.

The Good:

I liked Bree's arc until the season finale. It was a little unrealistic that she was on a honeymoon for 3 months, but it was a decent cover up for Marcia's maternal leave mid season. I enjoyed Susan's arc for the first episode, then it became boring, same with Lynette. Gabrielle had some great scenes with Xiao Mei, and I still have no idea why they got rid of her, she had great potential. There were a few very good episodes. For the most part, the storylines ended well. The Orson/Alma mystery had its moments of brilliance. I also liked the shows darker suburban tones, and two mysteries that didn't involve a murder. Art was another character they gave the ax to prematurely. It was nice to see more Edie, although I didn't much care for her transition into the needy romantic post Bree's departure. I was thankful they didn't drag the Susan/Mike relationship on any longer; I rooted for them for season one, but by mid season two I was almost yelling "just marry her already!". I enjoyed watching Lynette deal with Rick. Carlos and Gabrielle's divorce also had its moments of brilliance. One of the best scenes between them was when he threw her out of his car on the way home. I still think she needs her comeuppance which I expect Victor will deliver in Season Four. The hostage situation, and the Bigsby's, Bree finding a good husband, and an evil mother in law. I also thank the writers for adding the many household tricks in Bree's dialog. I would have never have learned that sour cream makes a moist pound cake, or that salt is used to get rid of red wine stains.

The bad:

Jokes? What jokes? Either I missed them because they weren't funny, or there was a serious lack of them. Most of the new characters; they all lacked personality. Austin, Alma, Ian, Nora, hell, everyone except for Rick, Art, Rebecca, Carolyn and Gloria completely bored me. The outcome of Gabrielle's baby story was lame, and stolen from Nip/Tuck I might add. I didn't think it was smart to steal plot lines from Sex and the City, which is still the superior show. There wasn't much screen time for Bree, which again I understand because of Marcia's pregnancy, but it's still a fault. The many inconsistencies; where did Justin and Bongo disappear to? What happened to Orson hating Mike? I admit, I too missed Andrew when he was a psychopath. There were also many mediocre episodes this season. Nothing exciting, nothing boring, just plain. Gabrielle's general storyline after Carlos and her broke up. Didn't care for Rex's narration, couldn't they have brought him in a flashback or something? I also found it very weird how everyone in the neighborhood magically became friends with one another. Since when did Tom talk to Carlos about their wives? And the whole teenage love triangle thing was extremely corny. This is Desperate Housewives, not The O.C.

The Ugly:

The return of... Zack? I like his character, but why did they have to do hitch him with Gabrielle. After he killed his grandfather to gain his fortune, they could have done anything, and they chose that? I hated the way a lot of scenes were written. Cherry's new writers were mostly from old sitcoms and it showed. Most of the time I was just waiting to hear a laugh track. I don't even want to mention what Alma did to Orson. Who thought of that? Gabrielle lost her baby... again. The only thing that's different is that no one cares. I hated the way they handled Bree's wedding.

Most of these varied from an episode to episode basis. There were a handful of great episodes such as:

Episode 6: Sweetheart, I Have to Confess

This was the best episode of the season. Very well written, actually funny, and mysterious. A

Episode 7: Bang

Though it wasn't as good as I thought it would be, mainly because of Gabrielle and Carlos (the feud got old last episode), one of the best episodes of the series. A-

Episode 10: The Miracle Song

They finally made a holiday episode. It was very well written, and there were lots of twists and turns. A

Episode 15: The Little Things You Do Together

Lynette and Tom finally open up their restaurant, and it didn't come off cheesy either. The mystery wraps up, but wasn't as for filling as Season One or Two. A-

Then there were the ones that weren't so good:

Episode 2: It Takes Two

All four housewives had horrible storylines. And where was Edie? C-

Episode 13: Come Play With Me

Zack and Alma single handedly ruined this whole episode. Worst episode of the season. D

Episode 16: My Husband, the Pig

Out of character, cheesy, boring. Didn't like anything from this episode either. C

Episode 17: Dress Big

This episode was just incredibly boring. Lynette's over-reacting to Tom was too melodramatic. C+

Episode 23: Getting Married Today

The only reason why this episode is on the 'worst' list is because it was the season finale, and nothing exciting happened. Plus the cliffhanger was lame. C+

Overall this was just another ok season. I really do think this is following in the footsteps of Six Feet Under. There are a few promising storylines for Season Four, but I doubt they will go anywhere they haven't before. Plus, there was no new mystery introduced except for the fate of Edie, which is pretty obvious. I won't spoil it, but if you're interested in learning the truth, listen to Marcia's interview on Letterman.

I will add more to this review when I have a chance to look through the DVD.

5 out of 5 stars Desperate Housewives Season 3 DVD The Dirty Laundry Edition is coming September 4th, 2007.......2007-05-29

Desperate Housewives is one of the best TV shows (along with Lost and Greys Anatomy) to come out in a long time. In a world where silly reality TV seems to have taken over, it is refreshing to see a quality show out there like Desperate Housewives. Desperate Housewives is one of the few shows that hooks you in, gets you addicted, and takes you on this emotional journey with the characters. It can be a bit far fetched at times, but it is meant to entertain and thats exactly what it does. With a great balance of comedy and suspense this show just makes you want to see whats going to happen next. I give Disney a lot of credit for putting so much in to there DVD sets. According to the press release from Buena Vista Desperate Housewives The Complete Third Season will be a six-disc set which includes all 23 episodes and will come be presented in widescreen format and 5.1 Surround Sound along with the bonus features below.

BONUS Features

*Behind-the-scenes look at the season finale

*Spanish audio track

*Eva Longoria shares stories from some of her favorite bloopers

*Marc Cherry's favorite scenes

*Several unaired story lines

*Deleted scenes and outtakes.

5 out of 5 stars Desperate Housewives - Season Three.......2007-05-24

After a good though not great second season, "Desperate Housewives" got back to full form for its third season. Even though season three wasn't as good as the first season, it was definitely better than the second season. Teri Hatcher (Susan), Felicity Huffman (Lynette), Marcia Cross (Bree), Eva Longoria (Gaby), and Nicollette Sheridan (Edie) all return for more hijinks on Wisteria Lane (located in the fictional town of Fairview), which saw plenty of the usual ingredients (romance, sex, murder, secrets, etc.) mixed in with its share of sharp comedy, serious drama, and intriguing mysteries that have been frequently featured in its first two seasons. Other series' regulars who came back for season three include James Denton (Mike), Ricardo Chivara (Carlos), Doug Savant (Tom), Andrea Bowen (Julie), and narrator Brenda Strong (Mary Alice).

After the disappointing storyline involving the Applewhites of season two, creator Marc Cherry and his staff of writers came up with a storyline for season three that was far more intriguing. This starts with a new character for the third season: Orson Hodge (well played by Kyle MacLachlan). As most fans of this show know, Orson was first introduced late in season two, and played a major role in the last episode of the second season, which led to a bigger role in season three. As we began to sense in the season two finale, Orson was someone with a troubled past. This led to him hitting Mike with his car (Mike was suspicious of Orson), and then in the final scene starts having a relationship with Bree (who met Orson at the psychiatric hospital that she checked herself into after thinking she was about to have a nervous breakdown after dumping her son Andrew (Shawn Pyfrom) along the side of a road in the middle of nowhere and daughter Danielle (Joy Lauren) running away from home). In the first episode of season three (which begins 6 months after the end of season two), we start to know some of Orson's past, and it's not pretty. But his relationship with Bree brings some joy into his life, and they marry in the second episode. But the journey into marriage turns incredibly bumpy when Bree starts to sense some of the things that have haunted Orson's past, and some of those elements come back, most notably in the form of his crazy mother, the return of a previous wife (who everyone thought was missing and presumed dead), and the mystery involving a dead woman who Orson had an affair with. All these situations are put to good use and in the end the payoff delivers. Though the end of this storyline comes sooner than anticipated, thanks in part to Marcia Cross' real-life pregnancy. Shortly after production began on the third season, Cross announced that she was pregnant, which kind of put a little bump in the road for what Cherry was planning for the season. He didn't want to make Bree pregnant, so he and his crew devised ways so that we don't notice Cross' pregnancy in the episodes by having constant close-up shots of her face or putting items in front of her in many scenes. If there was a scene where Bree had to perform a minor stunt, a body double was used (such as a moment where Bree walks up a ladder). And when Cross was ordered to stay on bed rest for the remainder of her pregnancy (with twins), she invited the crew to come to her home to shoot some scenes. As a result the storyline ended two-thirds of the way into the season, which allowed Cross to go on maternity leave from the show. But no need to fear, Bree makes a triumphant return in the final episode. Thank goodness, because of all these desperate housewives she has become my personal favorite. "Desperate Housewives" slightly lagged a bit without her perfectionist attitude.

Besides MacLachlan, there were other interesting new characters that get introduced. Dougray Scott was superb as Ian, an Englishman who strikes up a relationship with Susan; Josh Henderson is excellent as Edie's bad boy hunky nephew Austin, who starts a sweet romance with Susan's daughter Julie; Valerie Mahaffey is terrific as Orson's previous wife Alma, who appears in the first episode, then disappears for a while before reappearing at the mid-point of the season (much to Bree's shock); John Lafferty is very good as Gaby's new beau (and Fairview mayoral candidate) Victor Lang; Kiersten Warren is obnoxiously hilarious as Nora, (first introduced in the season two finale) an incredibly annoying woman who Tom had a one night stand with years ago and got pregnant with his child before he married Lynette, and tried to wreck havoc on the Scavo household by trying to get Tom back; Rachel Fox is cute as a button as Nora's daughter Kayla, who also happens to be Tom's daughter; Laurie Metcalf (from TV's "Roseanne") is memorably menacing as Carolyn, a friend of Alma's who suspects Orson murdered her; and the great Dixie Carter (from TV's "Designing Women") is a hoot as Orson's evil mother Gloria.

While new characters popped up in season three, there were some old characters from the previous two seasons that turned up as well. Mark Moses and Cody Kasch returned for a couple of episodes as Paul Young and his troubled son Zack (who actually was Mike's son); Jesse Metcalfe shows up in an early episode as Gaby's former gardener (and lover) John; Richard Burgi turns up briefly as Susan's ex-husband Karl; and Steven Culp returns to narrate an episode as Bree's late husband Rex (Mary Alice got the day off on that episode).

While there have been so many memorable characters on "Desperate Housewives", there is a reoccurring character who's so funny on the show that it would be a shame if I did not mention her. And that character is the old cranky Wisteria Lane neighbor Mrs. McClusky, played to the hilt by Kathryn Joosten. First introduced back in season one, Mrs. McClusky was at complete odds with just about everyone, especially Lynette. But since then she has started to show a softer side that is wonderfully touching. She's now good friends with Lynette, and helps out the Scavo family by babysitting their kids while Lynette and Tom are at work. The character even had a minor storyline late in season three that involved her late husband. This character has become one of the best things on "Desperate Housewives", and Joosten is perfect in the role. She's already won an Emmy for the role (as Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for season one). This character doesn't appear in every episode of the show, but for the episodes that she does turn up in (whether its one scene or five scenes) brings a smile to my face, which is usually followed by laughter. This character provides some of the biggest laughs on the show.

During its first three seasons, there have been many great episodes of "Desperate Housewives". But the very best episode of the show so far (in my opinion) comes in season three. Episode 7, titled "Bang", is the bone-chilling, on-the-edge-of-your-seat episode about that supermarket hostage crisis that affects the residents of Wisteria Lane. This episode has all the elements: some big laughs, high drama, and suspenseful thrills. Plus, Laurie Metcalf gives a great performance in this episode as Carolyn, the crazed woman who literally snaps after hearing some very disturbing news and proceeds to go off the deep end by taking some residents of Wisteria Lane hostage at the supermarket. This episode is an absolute must-see.

"Desperate Housewives" - The Complete Third Season should be out on DVD before the start of the fourth season, and I encourage anyone who bailed out on the show after season two to go out and get it the moment it becomes available. Until then, you'll have to catch reruns of season three throughout the summer. Or you can view seasons one and two, already out on DVD as well as reruns airing on Lifetime. But one way or another, the third season of "Desperate Housewives" is a winner. And the season ends with another stunning cliffhanger, which will lead into season four.

Movie adaptations of Jane Austen's classic novels were all the rage (relatively speaking) in the mid-1990s. Clueless updated Austen's Emma, which was more conventionally adapted in another version (Emma) starring Gwyneth Paltrow. Emma was produced yet again, this time for British television, as were a celebrated miniseries of Pride and Prejudice and this splendid film of Austen's Persuasion. Persuasion is the story of a love that survives eight years of dormancy and the frustrating obstacles of class prejudice in 19th century England. Anne (Amanda Root) is captivated when she meets the dignified naval officer Capt. Wentworth (Ciarán Hinds), but she is advised to discourage his romantic overtures because he has no fortune. They meet again eight years later, but now Capt. Wentworth has become wealthy while Anne's father is in reduced circumstances in the wake of reckless extravagance. A series of circumstances ensue which prevent Anne and Wentworth from expressing their mutual and inevitable love. The film's success depends entirely on the subtle, superb performances of Root and Hinds. The film builds slowly, occasionally leaving you wondering if anything at all is going to happen. When it does, you realize how carefully crafted a film this is, and the final result is grandly rewarding. --Jeff Shannon

Ripe, Fulfilling Romantic Classic

Anne Elliot and Frederick Wentworth's romance came to a sudden halt in 1806. Anne, the daughter of a conceited and spendthrift baronet, loved Wentworth but was advised by her family's confidant, Lady Russell, that the match was inappropriate, as Wentworth had no connections or money. Now 8 years later, Anne's family is forced from their estate because of her father's mounting financial debts. The family retreats to Bath, where, to the delight of Anne's father, they can maintain their privileged lifestyle on a much smaller budget. The family's home, Kellynch Hall, is to be let by an Admiral and his wife, who, coincidentally, are related to Wentworth. This liaison throws Anne back into the society of Wentworth, now a Captain in the Royal Navy who amassed quite a fortune in privateering. The Captain has now caught the attention of Louisa Musgrove, whose brother married Anne's sister, Mary. Meanwhile Anne, now in her late 20's and showing signs of physical and emotional stress, is surprisingly courted by the heir to Kellynch Hall. The question remains as to whether Anne and the Captain can reconcile to the point of being friends, or perhaps even put aside their past afflictions and possibly rekindle their lost romance.

No one can weave a romantic tale like Jane Austen did in her prime. This movie is a wonderful afternoon retreat. The acting is superb, and the dialogue gives us many wonderful moments to ponder long after the DVD is finished. Fans of period pieces will NOT be disappointed. This one is not to be missed.

5 out of 5 stars One of my top ten most romantic movies ever made!.......2007-06-22

This less-than-2-hour movie aired on PBS with a great intro by host Russell Baker. I still enjoy that VHS tape I made at the time, but its colors are dark and sometimes the dialog is hard to understand. Not having it on dvd is NOT an option for me. Luckily, it had been over a year since I last viewed this one, and it was better than ever, even better than the 1st time I saw it. Sometimes I see Captain Wentworth as mildly retarded, that he cannot see that Anne obviously has feelings for him. Then I remember he was thoroughly snubbed by her family as well as refused by her, so his hesitancy is understandable. In the 8 years that have elapsed since refusing him, Anne has found herself & her own voice, & is finally able to tell her well-meaning but patronizing friend, "That is not a thing that I want!" I am always so proud of her for going after what she does want, finally. The last few minutes of the film are some of the most romantic ever made.

My top ten: Pride & Prejudice (mini series with Colin Firth), 2)Persuasion, 3)Room With a View, 4)Casablanca, 5)Emma (Kate Beckinsale version), 6)My Foolish Heart, 7)The Terminator, 8)Doctor Zhivago ('65 version), 9)Best Years of Our Lives, 10)Will Penny. Ok, those last 5 shift around a bit sometimes, depending on which old movies I come across. Some of the traditionally favorite ones like GWTW, or Love Story -- there's more anguish than romance there, to me. What are your favorites? Always on the lookout for romantic moments on film. Hey, that could be another top ten, of your Top Ten Romantic Moments on film, which could be altogether a different list!

3 out of 5 stars Not Persuaded by the film.......2007-05-30

Glad I read the book before watching the film. There were scenes from the book that could have been included to make the film story line flow better. The actors/actresses were not as believable and didn't seem to fit the descriptions in the book as well. This adaptation of "Persuasion" was not as good as Ang Lee's "Sense and Sensibility" (with Emma Thompson) nor Andrew Davies' "Pride and Prejudice" (with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle).
If you're not keen on owning this DVD, I'd borrow it from the local library, a friend, or NetFlix before spending money to buy it.

4 out of 5 stars Didn't like at first .. but then I did........2007-05-04

I am a big Austin fan and have seen just about all of her movie adaptatons. At first I found this movie slow and pointless but about 1/2 way through I got excited to see how it would end. The ending makes good sense but could have been more detailed. The movie builds up antisipation and then ends ubruptly and leaves you saying what just happened. All and all this movie is worth seeing if you enjoy other Austin movies.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent film!.......2007-04-26

This is one of my favorite movies. I saw it at the theater when it first came out and then I bought the book. The characters seem like real people that a person could meet.

The ladies of Wisteria Lane returned for a second season of high anxiety, testy relationships, and a new mystery. Susan's (Teri Hatcher) angsty on-again off-again with Mike the plumber (James Denton) took an odd twist when her ex-husband (Richard Burgi) moved in with neighborhood seductress Edie (Nicolette Sheridan), then took an even odder one. Bree (Marcia Cross) resumed her widow's relationship with George the pharmacist (Roger Bart), then descended into personal addiction. Annette's (Felicity Huffman) return to the working world turned bizarre when her husband, Tom (Doug Savant), got tired of being a house-husband and returned to the workforce… at Annette's own firm. And Gabrielle (Eva Longoria) had to cope in her own unique way with Carlos (Ricardo Chavira) in prison.

With the first season's mystery surrounding Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong, still around as the narrator) revealed--though repercussions were still flying--the show's intrigue came from a new character, Betty Applewhite (Alfre Woodard), and her son (Mehcad Brooks), who try, unsuccessfully, to fit into Wisteria Lane while harboring their own secret. While Woodard is a great actor, her storyline tended to drag down the action, the brilliant Cross was saddled with two dismal character developments, and the housewives spent far too little time together. There were laughs to be had, however. Huffman's interplay with Savant was a highlight, and Gabrielle's conflict with a perceived rival named Sister Mary Bernard (Melinda Page Hamilton) was the funniest of the season. No longer as fresh as it had been in its debut season, Desperate Housewives ended up taking a back seat to its Sunday-night running mate, Grey's Anatomy, and was shut out of the major Emmy awards, but its late-season resurgence was a positive sign going into the third season. With Lesley Anne Warren as Susan's mother, Sophie; Bob Newhart as Sophie's beau; Andrea Bowen as Susan's steadfast daughter, Julie; Jay Harrington as Susan's doctor; Mark Moses and Cody Kasch as Paul and Zach Young, who continue to be plagued by Felicia Tilman (Harriet Sansom Harris) about what happened with Mary Alice; Shawn Pyfrom as Bree's rebellious son; Carol Burnett as Bree's stepmother; and Kyle MacLachlan as an oddball dentist.

On the DVDs
Creator Marc Cherry dominates the DVD features. He has a conversation with his muse, his mother; he comments on 27 minutes of his favorite scenes; and he has optional commentary on both the deleted scenes (15 minutes) and on the two unaired story lines. The longer of the story lines (11 minutes) focuses on Susan and her novel, with some nice interplay with Bob Newhart. In the shorter one (4 minutes), Lynnette tries to sneak in a phone call aboard a plane. The five lead actresses do get a chance to talk about their "juiciest bits" (about two minutes of recapping the season's kisses, etc.), the making of an episode, costumes, and their characters compared to TV's past housewives (with contributions from actresses such as Happy Days' Marion Ross and The Partridge Family's Shirley Jones). --David Horiuchi

5 out of 5 stars Hooked.......2007-06-14

I'm so glad I watched this for the first time on DVD. It is so good, there is no way I could have waited a week between each episode. I also love Grey's and Lost, but I think this one takes the cake.

5 out of 5 stars Great Sequel.......2007-05-14

This second season owes nothing to the first.
All 5 characters are able to sustain our interest and makes us laugh and wish for more throughout the whole season.
I can't wait to buy the third, it's too much for me to wait for the episodes to play on tv...

5 out of 5 stars Juicy Couture on Wisteria Lane.......2007-05-01

When Season 2 of Desperate Housewives came out, I admit I was skeptical. How could such a great show continue into it's path of greatness? It began with a bumpy start, when we have resolved who the body in Zach's toy chest was and the history behind Mary Alice's suicide. Where would it go from there? With the new neighbors and the obvious secret they are hiding in the basement, at the end of the first episode I went from a bit bored to intregued as to the new plot lines.

Susan is continuing her on again off again relationship with Mike, which is the most obvious comic relief of the show. Lynette has returned to work while her husband sits at home with their horrible children. Gabrielle's main struggle is her attempt at having a baby with her husband Carlos while trying to keep her affair with the gardener from his suspicious eyes. All are dodging the neighborhood vamp, Nicolette Sheridan, with jealous eyes. And Bree. Poor, perfect Bree. Struggling with her new alcoholism while holding the whole DYSFUNCTIONAL (and that deserves to be in all capital letters) family together. Her son Andrew is so evil, so self centered that his presence just radiates like a bad smell.

What is a Desperate Housewife to do? Continue their chaotic existence and try to make things work. We see the plots unfold that will continue to the next season - Gabrielle's continued struggle to have a child and this time incorporating their maid (who she catches with Carlos at the season finale), Bree's dumping her son on the side of the road and waiting for his inevitable return, Lynette's frustrations in dealing with her husband and children while balancing a career, and of course, Mike and Susan.

What a tangled web we weave.

Featuring a blowzy, winningly inept size-12 heroine, Bridget Jones's Diary is a fetching adaptation of Helen Fielding's runaway bestseller, grittier than Ally McBeal but sweeter than Sex and the City. The normally sylphlike Renée Zellweger (Nurse Betty, Me, Myself and Irene) wolfed pasta to gain poundage to play "singleton" Bridget, a London-based publicist who divides her free time between binge eating in front of the TV, downing Chardonnay with her friends, and updating the diary in which she records her negligible weight fluctuations and romantic misadventures of the year. Things start off badly at Christmas when her mother tries to set her up with seemingly standoffish lawyer Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), whom Bridget accidentally overhears dissing her. Instead she embarks on a disastrous liaison with her raffish boss, Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant, infinitely more likeable when he's playing a baddie instead of his patented tongue-tied fops). Eventually, Bridget comes to wonder if she's let her pride prejudice her against the surprisingly attractive Mr. Darcy.

If the plot sounds familiar, that's because Fielding's novel was itself a retelling of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, whose romantic male lead is also named Mr. Darcy. An extra ironic poke in the ribs is added by the casting of Firth, who played Austen's haughty hero in the acclaimed BBC adaptation of Austen's novel. First-time director Sharon Maguire directs with confident comic zest, while Zellweger twinkles charmingly, fearlessly baring her cellulite and pulling off a spot-on English accent. Like Four Weddings and a Funeral and Notting Hill (both of which were written by this film's coscreenwriter, Richard Curtis), Bridget Jones's stock-in-trade is a very English self-deprecating sense of humor, a mild suspicion of Americans (especially if they're thin and successful), and a subtly expressed analysis of thirtysomething fears about growing up and becoming a "smug married." The whole is, as Bridget would say, v. good. --Leslie Felperin

Description

Academy Award(R) winner Renée Zellweger (Best Supporting Actress, COLD MOUNTAIN, 2003; CHICAGO) and Hugh Grant (LOVE ACTUALLY, TWO WEEKS NOTICE) star in a delightful comedy about the ups and downs of modern romance. Bridget (Zellweger), a busy career woman, decides to turn over a new page in her life by channeling her thoughts, opinions and insecurities into a journal that becomes a hilarious chronicle of her adventures. Soon she becomes the center of attention between a guy who's too good to be true (Grant) and another who's so wrong for her, he could be just right (Colin Firth -- LOVE ACTUALLY)! Based on the best-selling book, BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY is another acclaimed crowd-pleaser from the hit makers of FOUR WEDDING AND A FUNERAL and NOTTING HILL.

5 out of 5 stars I love this.......2007-06-11

I love this movie! First of all I adore Hugh Grant, and his wit hits a homerun in this movie. But, I am a huger Zellweger and Firth fan as well.
Who does not love the way Bridget seems to always mock, and humiliate herself, yet win people over in an instant. She's a true underdog, but a loveable character looking for love...and bullocks....trouble, and moritifying moments always seem to find her. I can watch this movie any day of the week and laugh. Plus, it has a great soundtrack.

5 out of 5 stars This movie is a classic .......2007-06-08

You don't have to be into chick flicks to appreciate this movie. I personally am not into the serious romance movies. This one made me laugh, tugged at my heart strings, and made me sigh. I believe this is one of Renee Zellweger's best performances. I never had a crush on Colin Firth until I saw this movie. His performance was outstanding along side with Hugh Grant's whose wit had me in stiches. The sequel was also a fabulous movie that I have yet to purchase. I also like the deleted scenes and take outs at the main menu. A DVD you must add to your collection. You will never tire of seeing it.

4 out of 5 stars Laugh out loud funny for the dating disfunctional.......2007-05-07

Briget Jones Diary is a amusing look at the ins and outs of the dating world for the 30 something generation. A romatic comedy which will having you laughing to the point of tears. Bridget (as brought to life by Renée Zellweger) is a 30 something gal living in London and on the hunt for love, but sometimes willing to settle for sex, and forever psychoanalyzing (and second-guessing) herself we follow her as she tries to figure out what it is she really wants.

"It all began on New Year's Day in my 32nd year of being single," she says sardonically in what is to become the running internal monologue that ties the events in the movie to the entries in her journal.
The story largely concerns Bridget suddenly going from miserably manless (in a hilarious early scene she gets drunk alone at home and sings along to Jamie O'Neal's "All By Myself") to having two suitors Mark Darcy (Colin Firth)and Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant)-- a situation she simply doesn't know what to do with.

I find this movie is a must see whenever im having dating issue. Its almost as if it helps to know that im not the only one who isnt in a perfect relationship package.

5 out of 5 stars One of my favorite romantic comedies.......2007-04-23

I love this movie. I've traveled to England several times and this comedy epitomizes British humor. Bridget is such an easy character to relate to, a real woman with real problems. We need more characters like her out there, women who have weight issues and can't speak in public. I thoroughly enjoyed the fight scene between Mark and Daniel, it was something that you might see real men who are wimps really doing. This movie is fantastic and I highly recommend it to all women.

4 out of 5 stars and they say nobody writes georgian comedies any more!.......2007-04-19

i was pleasantly surprised upon catching up 6 years later with this chick brit flick. renee zellwegger repays england for vivien leigh being cast as scarlett, and she proves utterly charming in this modern take on a jane austen novel (and arguably better than any of the actual austen-based movies of the past decade). colin firth and even the usually smarmy hugh grant are excellent as her beaux: the boorish gentleman and the smooth bounder. great fun, but i hear the sequel is dreadful, so i shall steer clear.

Audiences were captivated by the women of Wisteria Lane in the first season of Desperate Housewives, the breakout hit from ABC that almost single-handedly lifted the network from its ratings doldrums and brought back the classic TV soap, remixed now with satire, comedy, and mystery. An affectionate yet darkly tinged send-up of suburbia that skirted Twin Peaks territory as much as that of Knots Landing, Desperate Housewives opened with a bang--literally--as perfect-seeming housewife Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong) went through her picture-perfect day before putting a handgun to her temple and pulling the trigger. Mary Alice's sudden suicide leaves her four closest friends, all housewives of a sort, with a surfeit of grief, a re-examination of their own lives, and a mystery to solve. It also proves to be a catalyst for a seamy study of what goes on inside the finely appointed homes of Wisteria Lane--the tales of which Mary Alice narrates from beyond the grave with a sardonic tone dipped in both honey and arsenic.

There's Martha Stewart-perfect Bree (Marcia Cross), who rules her household with an iron fist in a tailor-made garden glove and seems to have it all, until she finds out her husband (Steven Culp) is cheating on her--and had a serious fetish habit to boot. Sultry Gaby (Eva Longoria), the youngest of the set, is a bored trophy wife whose predilection for shopping and clothes are the perfect decoy for her affair with the hunky teenage gardener (Jesse Metcalfe). Former career woman Lynette (Felicity Huffman) is the most stereotypical housewife, raising four (or was it five?) kids and frustrated at using her cutthroat business skills for suburban politics. And daffy Susan (Teri Hatcher), the divorcee looking for love, sees her prospects brighten with the arrival of hunky plumber Mike (James Denton), who has some desperate secrets of his own. And did we mention the neighborhood hussy (Nicollette Sheridan), the snotty busybody (Christine Estabrook), and Mary Alice's increasingly agitated son (Cody Kasch)?

It was a fast and wild mix of plot and characters that gave Desperate Housewives the zing that made it a number one hit, as it never got too bogged down in any dilemma before moving on to the next. And though it was neither as hard-hitting nor salacious as it was trumpeted to be, the show nevertheless breathed fresh, funny air into comedy television, for even though it hewed to the hour-long soap format, the content was far more dark comedy than sudsy drama. There were fun bright spots to be had, but the story behind Mary Alice's death--which included drugs, murder, blackmail, secret identities, and vengeance in equal amounts--hovered over all the characters, tingeing the farce with the specter of danger. The show's other source of strength is in its peerless ensemble cast, headed by four perfect leading ladies, all Emmy-worthy. Hatcher received the (deserved) lion's share of praise (and a Golden Globe), but her co-stars--especially the underrated Longoria--matched her scene for scene. And though the mystery of Mary Alice's death was ultimately solved (no Twin Peaks teasing here), it was just the beginning of the troubles on Wisteria Lane, where no life went unexamined for too long. --Mark Englehart

    5 out of 5 stars Desperate Housewives.......2007-05-31

Don't miss out on this superb show. "Desperate Housewives" is a fun, sassy, innovative TV phenomenon that mixtures drama, comedy and mystery to create what is perhaps the best TV show of the last decade. It is already regarded as pioneering a new genre and will probably go down in history as one of the most popular shows of our time. In case you've been living under a rock for the past 3 years: the show revolves around 5 seemingly normal housewives who one day learn that one of their friends took her own life following a mysterious secret that haunted her and that we would only learn of at the end of the season. Every housewife goes through her own turmoil (Hatcher falls for a sexy plumber; Cross struggles marital problems and the discovery that her son is gay; Huffman gives up her business career to be a full-time doting mummy to a bunch of hyperactive children; adulterous Longoria sleeps with her gardener and almost loses her home; and Sheridan as the supporting act is always there to make quip remarks). You'll find yourself laughing quite often, thanks to the witty script and the talent of these 4 veteran TV stars (excluding Longoria). Highly recommanded.

5 out of 5 stars Really THE BEST.......2007-05-06

I absolutely love this show. I watched it like a million times! will never sell my set of DVDs :).

    5 out of 5 stars A cultural phenomenon!.......2007-05-03

When I first heard that a series about housewives was being put together, I couldn't help but laugh. When the show was named "Desperate Housewives," I was in disbelief, to say the least. And when everybody started praising it and calling it the finest show on TV, I thought the entire TV population should take a holiday to a deserted island, where there's no cable. Boy, was I wrong - not only is this show the best and most original project on TV, it was also funny, touching and, above all else, incredibly smart.

"Desperate Housewives" invites the audience to the seemingly glamorous lives of women of suburbia and their families. The squeaky-clean surface of the upper-middle class seems heavenly, but that is only its surface. Through our beautiful, perfectly cast leading ladies, we are about to see what life can bring even to the most privileged ones. Susan Mayer (played by Teri Hatcher) is a single mother desperately trying to find the right man. Lynette Scavo (the brilliant Felicity Huffman) is a mother of four, desperately trying to handle her syper children. Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria) is a spoiled ex-model who is desperately trying to keep her affair with her teenage gardener a secret from her husband. And finally, there is Bree Van De Kamp (played by the superb Marcia Cross), a perfectionist of a housewife, desperately keeping her house and relationship with her loved ones sterile-clean, in order to escape the obvious problems. Add a bunch of oblivious husbands, one attractive plumber (James Denton), one creepy family with a dark secret and at least one lady of loose morals (Edie Britt, played by Nicollette Sheridan), and you've got yourself a hot TV show.

The reason this show works so well is that all elements were obviously thought out carefully and put together without a problem. The actors are all excellent, and they impersonate their roles so well, you never feel they might actually have a life in the real world, as somebody's wives or girlfriends. Although the focus of the show is primarily on Hatcher, she is outshined by Cross and Huffman. Cross brings fantastic, complex performances to bring the complex character of Bree to life, she is the real star of the show. Huffman, on the other hand, approaches her under-written and un-glamorous role with wit and reality, making Lynette a character that is always closest to our hearts because she is the most humane one. Hatcher and Huffman have their moments (the infamous scene where Susan locks herself out of her house in her birthday suit, or the even more popular car-washing by Edie), but they mostly provide comic relief. Finally, Longoria seems to be on the show mostly for her looks (she was appropriately titled the most beautiful woman on television), but it's not until the second half of season one that she gets to show off her talents, as her character gets more dimension.

You simply cannot go wrong with buying this six-disk set. The residents of suburbia will keep you amused whether it's because of mistery, deceit, control, love or hate. Don't simply expect entertainment - expect an experience that will stick with you long after you're done with an episode. "Desperate Housewives" are not at all silly - it is a marvelous insight into human nature and the values of modern-day America. If you become a fan, you might want to check out Welcome to Wisteria Lane: On America's Favorite Desperate Housewives (Smart Pop series) for a collection of essays that are academic in style and approach the show in a scholarly manner, offering sociological explanation on why the "Housewives" have become a phenomenon.

5 out of 5 stars Funny show, Well-done!.......2007-04-03

I didn't think I would like this show since it seemed like a show only geared towards a women audience. I was mistaken. After watching a couple of episodes, I was hooked. The writing on the show is pretty funny. The different plots on the show are interesting and quite entertaining. The acting is top-notch and very believable. I think anyone would enjoy this show.

    Peace and Happiness,

    Patrick Leonardi

5 out of 5 stars I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SHOW..........2007-03-12

I think that this show is BRILLIANT. I just wanted to see what all the hype was about and I was hooked!!!

Having a strong interest in women's studies I really do not think that there is a better depiction of The Feminine Mystique or The Second Shift than what is depicted on this show. It does not have fake notions of what womens relationships are like that are often protrayed really sugary. I think that the relationships with all of the housewives is pretty realistic.

Also, I think that its actually done VERY well. I will say that despite being a young feminist I have always been partial to older TV shows like Leave it To Beaver However I often felt like that the depiction of housewives on those older TV shows were more of what wives were expected to be not the way things really were. How REFRESHING to have a TV show like Desperate Houswives were the depiction is realistic and dramatic!!!

Even though I am not a mother myself, I think that Felicity Hoffman protrays motherhood very realistically which is one of the things that keeps me coming back to the show. I think she is fantastic. And who has not felt pressure to be like Brea and intimidated when other women are sucessful that way? And who does not wish to look like Gabby but if you look behind the scenes of her marriage things do not seem that great. I think the show appeals to every woman.

Also as someone who does love older shows, I think its fun to note that Leslie Ann Warren plays Susan's mother and its fun to see how verstaile she really is.

I must say that I feel a certain level of surprise that the show is written by a MAN who is a REPUBLICAN. And its still good and it seems to get everything just right...

I just can not wait for season three to come out on DVD....however I think that fans of the show who have not seen Stepford Wives or A lot like Heaven would fully enjoy those movies if they are not watching reruns of Desperate Houswives....

Dead bodies sprout like weeds wherever Rosemary Boxer (Felicity Kendal, Good Neighbors) and Laura Thyme (Pam Ferris, Children of Men) go--and as professional gardeners/amateur detectives, it's their job to get to the root of things. The combination of murderous skullduggery and idyllic gardens give Rosemary & Thyme its whimsical charm. Over the course of 8 episodes, Laura and Rosemary investigate mysteries involving seeds from South America, a three-legged dog, an abandoned infant, cheesy outdoor theatricals, and moaning and clanking in the attic of a struggling hotel. These are not cunning whodunits; viewers looking for the chance to match wits with the on-screen detectives will be frustrated, as the stories rarely present enough information for the audience to figure out the solutions before they are unveiled. Rosemary & Thyme depends instead on your engagement with our heroines: Two middle-aged ladies who bicker and joke with each other like comfortable old friends. British mysteries have always valued eccentricity over glamour, and Rosemary & Thyme fit nicely into that tradition. Though by this third series the writing has grown a bit more rote, the show also makes an effort to enrich the leading ladies' lives by bringing in backstory elements about their friends and relatives. --Bret Fetzer

    4 out of 5 stars gardener's delight.......2007-03-20

This is the third season of a delightful horticultural mystery series starring Felicity Kendall and Pam Ferris. The two professional gardeners/amateur sleuths embark on some pretty hair-raising adventures as they travel the globe. Not only do they unearth secrets of the human heart they also solve seemingly impossible gardening puzzles. The series takes you to some really beautiful locations, and it's worth watching just for the scenery. We're treated to such places as Kew Gardens and Regent's Park in London, and Andalusia in southern Spain. Kendall and Ferris really are a great pair of character actors. It's hard to believe that the same Pam Ferris played the abusive, butch Miss Trunchbull in "Matilda".

4 out of 5 stars If you enjoyed Murder She Wrote, you'll probably like these........2007-03-18

I enjoy these shows but, they're kind of light-weight as far as the mysteries go. The main characters are well-written but the supporting characters can be kind of superficial. Still, I think you'll enjoy these if you like your British Mysteries on the light side.

Before there was Aaron Sorkin's West Wing, there was Aaron Sorkin's Sports Night, which followed the trials and tribulations of a smart, energetic television staff as they scrambled to put on a nightly cable sports show, not unlike ESPN's SportsCenter. Sports Night was every bit as good as its political successor--and in some ways, even better--even though it didn't have the gravitas of, say, running the country on a daily basis. You don't need to know anything about sports to appreciate the dynamics of the Sports Night news room (which bears more than a passing similarity to His Girl Friday), and the issues the cast grappled with every week ran from the serious to the frothy, always peppered with snappy Sorkin dialogue. And sadly, as befalls most quality television (TV Guide dubbed it "The Best Show You're Not Watching"), Sports Night was canceled after two seasons. But the trajectory of 45 episodes on this DVD set allows you to watch one of the best and most groundbreaking half-hour shows ever put on television.

Those familiar with Sorkin's writing style will revel in the unabashed comedy and interoffice romance on display here, and the way it's set in motion by a powerhouse cast, including Felicity Huffman's Dana (sexy, neurotic show producer), Peter Krause's Casey (goofball anchor guy), Joshua Malina's know-it-all Jeremy (staff nerd and information repository), Sabrina Lloyd's efficient Natalie (Dana's mostly unflappable assistant), and the show's two secret weapons: Robert Guillaume as executive producer Isaac, who was to Sports Night what Martin Sheen was to The West Wing, and the superb Josh Charles, who as co-anchor Dan, a man as complex as he was funny and heartbreaking, was the heart and soul of Sports Night. Damn, they just don't make TV this good anymore! --Mark Englehart

    Description

Taut, exciting, realistic dramedy about the lives of sports journalists. It's a show about a show about sports, that isn't about sports at all.

    5 out of 5 stars Huffman!.......2007-06-30

You know Huffman as the frumpy, rather unatracive member of the Desperate Housewives cast. But with that cast who wouldn't be unattractive?? Well, see her in her first tv series. This is an achievement of writing and acting and not many pwople know it.

5 out of 5 stars An Underappreciated Gem.......2007-06-27

Sports Night deserves to be ranked with "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "Cheers" for having the best ensemble acting in TV sitcom history. The writing however is in a class by itself. Arron Sorkin stands with the likes of Paddy Chayefsky and Rod Serling as one of the very finest writers to ever work in television. Funny. Poignant. Brilliant. I can't get enough.

5 out of 5 stars Simply, one of the Best of the Best.......2007-05-25

Sports Night delivers some the best entertainment available on DVD. Crisp and intelligent writing, interesting characters, pertinent-sometimes edgy story lines and perfectly cast acting make this comedic drama an unheralded television classic.

5 out of 5 stars Might be the best comedy series you (n)ever saw ..........2007-05-22

After having read a number of positive reviews for "Sports Night", and having missed it on television in its two-season lifespan (1998-2000), I ordered the disks from Zip.ca (the Canadian Netflix) and gave it a whirl. I found the series positively addictive (and at 23 fast-moving minutes per episode, they were like potato chips ... I couldn't have just one at a time)! I then had to order it from Amazon.com in order to have it in my collection.
The writing is fantastic, the pacing is terrific, and the characters are wonderfully quirky. It's a workplace that you want to join!
The acting, of course, is what you would expect from Felicity Huffman, Peter Krause and Robert Guillaume - just amazing.
You won't be disappointed in this gem of a series ... it'll leave you wanting more. And while I'm glad to have found this set, I was disappointed that there were no extras. (I had to find the Sports Night fan sites on the Web to get more of the story on the series, its making and cancellation.)

5 out of 5 stars Very funny show.......2007-05-14

This is a really funny show. It's a shame it only lasted two seasons. If you like Scrubs or the Office, give Sports Night a try.

If Felicity was always a collective portrait of young adults perpetually at a crossroads, then Felicity: Senior Year Collection (The Complete Fourth Season) concerns that moment when one realizes the long-deferred future of grown-up responsibilities has finally arrived. In other words, Senior Year is about decisiveness and commitment shaking things up among Felicity's tight-knit group of soon-to-graduate college friends and significant others, all of whom recognize now the urgency to make clearheaded choices that will permanently affect careers, family ties, love lives, and self-respect.

Not that any of Felicity's familiar characters are prepared for that kind of Hamlet-like pressure. Bad judgment, impulsiveness, the flotsam of unresolved relationships, envy, and selfishness are still driving forces behind the mercurial actions of art major Felicity Porter (Keri Russell) and her off-and-on boyfriend Ben Covington (Scott Speedman), former beau Noel Crane (Scott Foley), cynical pal Meghan Rotundi (Amanda Foreman), the latter's well-meaning hustler of a partner, Sean Blumberg (Greg Grunberg), and assorted students and confidantes who comprise Felicity's inner circle. But the stakes are much higher this time. Ben's alcoholic father (John Ritter in a sympathetic, touching performance), in true medical trouble, can no longer be angrily dismissed by the younger man as in previous seasons. A careless fling between Felicity and Noel is no mere bump in the road anymore for the former and her true love, Ben. Nor is Ben's imminent fatherhood (he and the young addict his father is sponsoring become pregnant) the kind of inconvenient wrinkle Felicity invariably forgave in the past. Everyone is playing for keeps now, and the absorbing dramas and tensions in each well-written, constantly surprising episode have an air of finality about them. Things get particularly interesting--arguably controversial--in the last two or three scripts, in which an anomalous time-travel gimmick (of all things) gives viewers an opportunity to see alternative finales for the four-year-old series. It's a go-for-broke idea that asks Felicity's loyal audience to take a leap of faith just to see what happens, and the results are indeed unexpected and rewarding. Special features include a particularly good, behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of the last episode. --Tom Keogh

4 out of 5 stars Disappointing special features.......2007-06-27

at $45, I wish they had put more effort into this set.
The best extra is the Elena mystery feature, but the creators' response to the controversial missing footage is still less than satisfactory. Why did they have to cut out the 'save Elena' scenes from the actual final episode? They claim that the final episode was about 20 minutes longer than the usual 43 minutes allocated by the network... no wonder, with all those flashbacks! they could've been more creative, maybe they didn't have to show the full scenes and just have Felicity describe the moments and the emotions attached to those memories to that spell guy. I can only imagine all the good-byes and other interesting moments that were edited out, and that SHOULD HAVE BEEN on this dvd. why aren't they here!? it's not like there's going to be a special edition in the near future, considering that the show was not such a big hit. those who like it already bought this version, and we should have been given all the material that was available. where are all those missing scenes from the extra 20 minutes they say they shot?

5 out of 5 stars Felicity-Senior Year in great condition.......2007-03-09

The condition of the senior year of felicity was in excellent condition. I am very pleased with the condition of the dvd.

5 out of 5 stars heart breaking, funny and oh so real.......2007-02-21

When Felicity first started I was obsessed with it. I found it charming and refreshing; such a simple plot line gave space for so much. I stopped watching at the beginning of season 2 (not because of the haircut thing, actually I thought she looked great with short hair). And not until now had I felt the urge to know what happens to this loveable bunch of people. I've finished watching Season 4 (after a long marathon of seasons 1-2-3) and I have to say that this season is by far the most heartbreaking. I didn't want to watch it because I had read so much about how the vision of the show got destroyed and how characters behaved differently, anyway I decided to give it a chance. I don't regret it at all. Yes, I was mad when Felicity cheated on Ben (why?), I didn't like at all that Ben got a woman pregnant (I agree with the one of the reviewers that this was a big dissapointment and the way Felicity handled it was a little bit dissapointing too, a little bit of anger a lá "Avery situation" would've been nice to see), I didn't like all the on-off situation between B & F, etc.. etc.. but at the same time I understand why it was handled that way. That's how life unfolds, unexpected things happen, people and things change. This is what this season was all about, growing up, making choices, facing "real life". Also the acting in this season was superb, especially from the two Scotts. I think the storyline with Ben's father (the oh so good John Ritter may he R.I.P.) was a great chance for Speedman to show that his character was much more than met the eye. And S. Foley captured perfectly the anguish of someone that's just LOST.

I was a little bit skeptical about the last 5 episodes (the time travel episodes) and how I would feel about them. But I have to be honest, I LOVED them. I think they changed the heartbreaking mood that we were left with in "The Graduate", because they were lighter and with some really funny moments. Also it was great to see that even if we could travel back in time to change something, probably when we get there we can't change anything at all (Felicity realizing she couldn't change the "force" between her and Ben as case in point). This cast (especially Keri & Scott S.) had a magical chemistry, and in the end they made it work no matter what. I really miss this show.

To ball your eyes out watch:
    * The Last Thanksgiving (one scene in particular is heart-rending)
    * Ooops Noel did it again (why Noel why?!!!)
    * The Graduate
    * Back to the Future

To relieve the Ben & Felicity magic
    * A Perfect Match
    * The Power of the Ex
    * Felicity Interrupted
    * The Graduate (the bed scene)

    To laugh a little
    * Spin the bottle

Season 2 of Felicity not only sees the massacre of star Keri Russell's golden locks (at one point, a minor character refers to the new, short-cropped Felicity as "Chia-Head") but endless turmoil--most of it quite addictive to watch--in perhaps seven or eight overlapping romances.

First there's the issue of season 1's cliffhanger. Did Felicity spend her summer with former high-school crush Ben (Scott Speedman) or her dormitory's resident advisor, Noel (Scott Foley), who harbors strong feelings for her? Episode 1 teases us with the answer while laying the bumpy groundwork for our heroine's sophomore year: Felicity has come back to college in New York City as an R.A. in her old dorm, once again sharing a room--much to her discontent--with acerbic Wiccan-punk Meghan (Amanda Foreman). Ben has a part-time job working in a coffee shop owned by Felicity's confidante Javier (Ian Gomez). Noel is sharing an apartment with another Felicity ally, Elena (Tangi Miller), as well as filmmaker Sean (Greg Grunberg), who previously made a documentary focusing on Ben and Felicity's relationship.

Tangled connections and shifting loyalties make for a long, involving second year in this drama-comedy from Disney and Imagine Entertainment. Characters fall in and out of love, earn and betray trust, leap before they look, and redeem themselves with powerful acts of forgiveness or faith. Felicity creators J.J. Abrams (writer, Forever Young) and Matt Reeves (director, Relativity) set out to capture the unique contradictions of young adulthood in this show--in particular, clinging to a precise college track while trying to make sense of post-adolescent love and responsibility--and for the most part succeed very well. Sometimes too well: The storylines may become a little redundant, the drama a tad flat with such singular interest in the muddled passions of 19-year-olds. But each episode is sharply written, comically incisive, and never less than watchable.

Great special features: Keri Russell's audition, audio commentaries, a never-before-seen pilot, and the Felicity Emmy Parody, i.e., a spoof of the TV show produced for an Emmy Award telecast. --Tom Keogh

    5 out of 5 stars Love Felicity.......2007-02-03

I got the package very fast and was very satisfied. Amazon was a great experience.

    4 out of 5 stars AMAZING .......2007-02-02

I dont care what others may say, i luved the hair cut...Its well known that whenever a girl goes thru something as tramatic as a break up some drastic measures are taken. The hair cut was just that, and plus she looked absolutely cute. But i do have to say that the whole break so early in the season was a bit premature but ended well with Ben realizing that he was ready for someone as intense as Felicity. Almost to the point of losing her. I loved the fact that Felicity was given the chance to possibly have relationships with other guys on the show. Although they seemed a bit doomed from the start. Overall there may have been some chnges to the dynamics of some of the original characters but i think it brought something new to the table. Episodes that i really enjoyed: The Love Bug, mainly due to the fact that it was just hilarious everyone thinking they had mono; Great Expectations, Ben realizes what he gave up; Ben Was Here; Aretha Theory; Final Answer; The Biggest Deal There Is, basically the roles have been reversed and its Ben doing the chasing...And one can't forget the very end when Ben tells Felicity that he loves her. No matter how many times I watch that part I always cry...Creators and writers of Felicity i honestly enjoyed the whole roller coaster ride of season two. Does anyone by chance know who the artist is that sings the song at the end of "Things Change" when Ben sees Felicity with Greg***

    5 out of 5 stars Love It.......2007-01-09

I absolutely love Felicity......it takes me way back and I now own the whole series....wish there could be more :)

3 out of 5 stars Hardly interesting after Season 1.......2006-10-24

I did enjoy Season 1 of this show, but Season 2 is just a mess of a season. Felicity loses her hair, and too many changes to characters we enjoyed makes this season feel like everything is back to square one. Too much chaos all at once, first Felicity drops pre-med, and Noel suddenly loses his 'graphics designer' identity. All we see him do is become a TA (teachers assistant) and its a departure for this character. Going from a Graphics Design (ART) major, Noel is now apparently a TA teaching kids philosophy?? I quite enjoyed his Graphics Design character more and have no clue why the writers pulled a plug on that.
Maghan is still great, she is one of my favorite characters on the show. As for Felicity, after becoming an Art major, why would she want to work in a health center? Why drop pre-med then? Doesn't make sense. She spends a lot of time being 'lost', as she loses her identity and goals in life. Hello, why not go back to pre-med Felicity? Duh!
The whole break-up of her parents is just more unnecessary baggage this season needed. Felicity's mother decides she now wants to break up the family for no solid reason. Could have been more convincing if she had an affair or something.
I quite enjoyed the subway episode, probably my favourite episode on here.

5 out of 5 stars My wife is addicted..........2006-03-01

Alright, I usually can't stand to watch this show, but for J.J. Abrams' sake I gave I gave it a chance... and I still don't like it. Sorry. However, my wife loves it, so for all the ladies I give it 5 stars!

Felicity: Junior Year Collection is an improvement over year 2--perhaps inevitably, as the characters are lurching toward adulthood more rapidly and definitively. For the most part, Felicity (Keri Russell) and the gang still face the same challenges--commitment, academic momentum, conflicts over values, pressure from parents--but the stakes are higher because everyone has outgrown adolescent defenses and revealed more of themselves to lovers and friends. The third season begins with lots of smiles and hopes as Felicity, boyfriend Ben (Scott Speedman), would-be filmmaker Sean (Greg Grunberg), kinky Wiccan Meghan (Amanda Foreman), and the rest return from a summer break to get reacquainted. Felicity, expected to move in with pals Julie (Amy Jo Johnson) and Elena (Tangi Miller), impulsively decides to move into an apartment with Ben instead--without telling Ben. The funky hovel becomes a source of conflict (even more after Ben lets a beautiful neighbor take a bath in his and Felicity's living-room tub) that exacerbates the couple's ambivalence about one another.

But a lot of things do that, including a visit from Felicity's mom (Eve Gordon) that finds the latter lobbying against Ben (who hasn't chosen a career and gets into a couple of fights this season) and for Noel (Scott Foley, whose character seems destined for success and who remains, secretly, in love with Felicity). Meanwhile, Sean and Meghan deal with the former's possible testicular cancer, Elena grapples with her virgin boyfriend's insistence on no pre-marital sex, Julie disappears while depressed over her relationship with her father, and newcomer Molly (Sarah-Jane Potts) tries to break off a relationship with a gun-toting drug addict (Robert Patrick Benedict). Typically, season 3 has frequent, jaw-dropping dramatic highlights, including a shooting that results in a profound experience for nearly everyone, an episode in which Felicity wakes up naked in a fraternity house, and another in which she is the recipient of an awkward pass by Ben's alcoholic father (John Ritter). Life is never dull in this series executive-produced by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, and the subject of growing up, when treated with as much insight as Felicity offers, is always interesting. Among the special features is a great parody of the series from Mad TV. --Tom Keogh

    Description

The education continues during Felicity's junior year. Felicity, played by Golden Globe winner* Keri Russell, returns to the University of New York for a new course in self-discovery. Her big decision to move in with Ben shapes the direction of the school year, but it's just one of the many exhilarating challenges in a spectacular season of passion, heartache and excitement in the city.

5 out of 5 stars Felicity Junior Year.......2005-08-03

After a perceived sophomore slump by the critics (I still think it is good especially towards the end of the season), Season 3 reinvigorated the show by raves from the critics and improved ratings. Season 3 is probably the most ensemble based seasons of the show as more of the supporting characters (Megan, Javier, Sean) become more part of the gang.

Some of the best episodes of the season are:

-The Christening (a great season opener, it was funny and cute and just a nice way to start the season)
-Hello, I must be Going (Julie's goodbye via videotape to the gang was beautiful, a nice farewell epis
