4 out of 5 stars queen.......2007-05-14

great concert and sound, but after seeing the band live it's hard to compare a dvd. worth the purchase, great song mix.

5 out of 5 stars The best!.......2007-04-11

A great live concert by an a amazing band. Everyone should own this dvd, and every frontman should study the excellence of freddie mercury. The best frontman in history!

5 out of 5 stars I wanted to eat it all ... in one bite.......2007-04-11

Wow-- DVD at home--with Bose sound sure beats the 8 tracks and wedge speakers in my 69 Mustang. Beats the turntable and nickles taped to the needle and giant home made speakers (thank you Radio Shack). Always liked Queen-- this is my first Queen DVD and it is great. Nice variety. Freddie whips up the crowd.... goose bumps. Program the DVD to play REPEAT. I like this better than vinyl-- Night at the Opera.
Another One Bites the Dust-- good for pregame in the locker room.

5 out of 5 stars Si existiese una máquina del tiempo, yo no iria a woodstock, yo iria a Queen Live at Wembley!!!.......2007-04-06

5 out of 5 stars God save the Queen!!.......2007-03-31

Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Taylor and Deacon!!

No more words are necessary...this DVD is amazing!

The Wall (Live in Berlin) seemed uninspired and gimmicky in 1990 but looks and sounds terrifically compelling on DVD, thanks to its vivid image quality and greatly improved audio mixes. The freshly mineswept Potsdamer platz--a once-thriving plaza destroyed by Allied bombing in 1943--proved the perfect place to mark the opening of the Berlin Wall with an all-star production of Pink Floyd's magnum opus: a Wall for a wall. An unlikely assemblage of musicians augments Roger Waters's impressive house band (led by guitarist Rick DiFonzo and organ wizard Nick Glennie-Smith), with everyone from the Scorpions to Joni Mitchell to the Military Orchestra of the Soviet Army getting in on the rock-opera action. Cyndi Lauper, Bryan Adams, James Galway, Thomas Dolby, and Albert Finney all turn in tasty cameos, while Sinead O'Connor looks unaccountably aloof in "Mother." The documentary is thorough and juicy, and producer Tony Hollingsworth offers an above-par essay in the booklet. --Michael Mikesell

5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2007-06-27

I saw part of this late one night while half asleep and searched for more than a year to find it. Highly reccomend to anyone who is a Floyd fan. Or a fan of Rock Opera's.

5 out of 5 stars Great Cover to a great album.......2007-06-08

This is a great DVD.
It becomes greater once you read the album notes.
One can only imagine the feeling that those who attemped the concert felt considering it was done after the Berlin Wall was torn down.

4 out of 5 stars Much better than I expected.......2007-06-07

I love Pink Floyd/Roger Waters stuff (In The Flesh Live is my favorite concert DVD) but I'd avoided this for years because, frankly, I didn't want to see The Wall done by a bunch of people not even remotely connected to Roger Waters' music (Scorpions, Jerry Hall, Cyndi Lauper, etc). Finally I gave in and what a surprise! Not only is the stage show an unbelievable spectacle to behold but the music and performers are great. Van Morrison, Scorpions, Cyndi Lauper, Ute Lemper, Bryan Adams, Paul Carrack, Sinead O'Connor, etc., all do really good jobs with the songs they are given. The only two performances that I didn't care for were Joni Mitchell (Goodbye Blue Sky) and Jerry Hall (Are All These Your Guitars?). Joni Mitchell's voice is very good but she embellishes a little too much for my taste and Jerry Hall's speaking part was a bit too over the top. Other than that, my only disappointment is that this is in (it's original) fullscreen version. An anamorphic 16x9 presentation (it is cropped however from the fullscreen) does exist on The Wall: Live In Berlin (Special Edition) but this disc is either a) a non-Region 1 disc or b) no longer unavailable. The 5.1 sound was very good but lacked a bit in the low end. Overall, the concert is spectacular, the performers are really good, the audio is great, and the video is average. The documentary is worth watching, too. I was completely overwhelmed with how good this concert really was and only regret not having gotten the disc sooner.

5 out of 5 stars Just as I remember it........2007-05-24

Just as I remember it. The concert was great but the special features were unbelievable. Worth way more than I paid for it.

5 out of 5 stars "Classic".......2007-05-11

This title is a must have for any pink floyd fan. Worth every penny. This concert is a must see since it was the rarest of all pink floyd concerts."At least in my book".

While Pink Floyd's widely popular Pulse ranked as one of the bestselling DVDs of 2006, Rush: Replay x 3 is a similarly praiseworthy treasure-trove that's geared more for long-time Rush fans with a working knowledge of the band's evolution. New fans and late-blooming converts are just as likely to enjoy this three-concert package (compiled from previously available VHS releases from the 1980s), but it's the die-hard devotees of Canada's premiere prog-rock power trio who'll get the most from this epic-scale, remastered DVD package. Particularly welcome here are the miniature reproductions of the official programs from each of the tours featured here: "Exit Stage Left" (1981), "Grace Under Pressure" (1984) and "A Show of Hands" (1987-88). With tour-diary notes by the band's illustrious percussionist and co-founder Neil Peart, and often humorous personnel profiles and equipment list by Peart, guitarist Alex Lifeson, and bassist/synth player and vocalist Geddy Lee, these handy booklets offer both tour-related nostalgia and successive glimpses into the band's creative process. Lavishly illustrated, they're also fascinating as visual records of the band's on-stage look, album designs, and related materials.

As presented here (as opposed to earlier releases on VHS and laserdisc), the concerts are intended to complement the same live recordings (with some variations in playlists) that were previously released on CD, and the "Grace Under Pressure" CD, included here as a special-bonus fourth disc, is an all-new release exclusive to this package. If you own them all (and what self-respecting Rush fan wouldn't?), you'll have a near-complete collection of these pivotal performances. Both "Exit" (recorded at The Forum in Montreal, Quebec) and "Grace" (Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto) have been re-edited to an even hour apiece, while "A Show of Hands" (National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, England) clocks in at 90 minutes. While they lack the visual splendor of Pulse, each concert offers an equal serving of highlights, notably "The Trees" and "Xanadu" (on "Exit"), "The Spirit of Radio" and the muscular medley of "YYZ/The Temples of Syrinx/Tom Sawyer/Vital Signs" (on "Grace"); and the stunning Alex Lifeson showcase "La Villa Strangiato" (on "A Show of Gands"). The latter also includes an obligatory and always-impressive Neil Peart drum solo (on "The Rhythm Method"), and while the original video source results in occasionally murkey image quality (as also happened with "Grace Under Pressure" director David Mallet on Pulse), there's no doubt that the 5.1-channel Dolby Digital remastering (supervised by Lifeson and Mike Fraser) represents a substantial improvement in overall sound, especially for those with DTS decoders. For those who think a little Rush goes a long way, Replay x 3 will probably qualify as overkill, but true fans will be ecstatic despite the absence of certain previously available material or any backstage features that would allow a more intimate glimpse of prog-rock's most enduring practitioners. What's not here is regrettable; what is here is fantastic. --Jeff Shannon

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars great.......2007-06-29

This was a gift but the individual I sent it to loved it. Of course they are a big Rush fan

4 out of 5 stars Successive blasts from the past..........2007-06-27

The three live recordings of Rush contained in this boxed set are all very good examples of the band at different moments in their development. They are also examples of the style of their times in terms of editing and pace.

The first is just plain good, with lingering camera work and reasonable sound. The enthusiasm of the band shines through and the shots of the audience are just hysterical: "Did we actually dress like that?"

The second shows the pervasive nature on the then rising MTV in its Miami Vice clothing styles and relentlessly quick intercutting during each song. Sound is good but you wish the camera could linger to see what each of the musicians is actually doing. Again, "Did we actually dress this way?"

It is a deep seated peeve of mine that directors insist on this frenetic style of intercutting. Rush is composed of three of the finer musicians out there and getting an extended look at picking techniques, fingerings and the like would be wonderful. But, alas, it is not to be...

The third is just plain fun.

I recommend this to all fans of Rush, and to casual fans who may have an interest in looking at one of the finest prog-rock ensembles to ever come rolling along.

Now, if Geddy would just put down the Fender and pick up his Rickenbacker once again...

1 out of 5 stars Great Momento - but not much more than that.......2007-05-15

It was great to relive all of these concerts I originally saw on Betamax (yes, Betamax). The energy and performance of these shows are still contageous and enjoyable to watch and it is good to have these "markers" of their career.

However, other than some nice packaging, menus and the GUP soundtrack, there is nothing new and most disappointingly, no improvement on quality, except for the audio. Could they not have dug up the original masters for a digital transfer that would have imporved the picture quality, especially on ESL?

Well, the improved audio mix almost makes up for it. I was content to put it on my laptop and just listen to a very clean mix through my earphones. I hope to hear the 5.1 mix sometime soon.

For a really great quality video and audio Rush show, see "R30" - that is magnificent DVD concert mixing.

5 out of 5 stars Time Capsule.......2007-04-26

Canadian rockers Rush have been making the best progressive rock for over 30 years now. Neil, Alex, and Geddy have a unique chemistry together when they play that it would likely be impossible for the band to sound as great as they do if any one of the three were missing from the show. The Rush Replay set includes three DVD's and each one is a concert during their many tours throughout the 1980's-all spectacular shows that give fans an eyeful of the chemistry Rush create onstage. One of my first exposures to Rush in live format was with Exit Stage Left from 1981 when they were gaining in popularity in the U.S. thanks to Moving Pictures. Exit Stage Left is included on here and remains as fantastic as I remember from the first time as the band explodes with a hit list from Moving Pictures in between some classics from the earlier days like "Xanadu" and "The Trees." Next is a 1984 show from the Grace Under Pressure tour which shows the constant evolution of the band in their style, sound, and popularity. The set list with this show isn't what I expected because they perform a lot of the songs that never crossed over to radio and even leave out some of their best known songs like "Limelight", "Tom Sawyer," and "Subdivisions," but they still put on such an awesome show that the choice of songs becomes secondary. The third DVD, and probably my favorite now, is A Show of Hands from 1988. With this tour, Rush were kind of reliving the past decade where they found their greatest commercial success starting with 1980's Permanent Waves through 1987's Hold Your Fire. This show includes some of the best tracks from every release during their glory days as well as older classics from the 70's and, as with every show and every year that goes by, Rush become more defined as musicians while they play an incredible set with songs that feel like you're on an emotional and spiritual journey. Rush have such a wide catalog now that they can do a different set list with each show and still leave their audience stunned and satisfied. This DVD/CD release is a great way to start your experience with Rush. Another factor to note is how the band's look changed with the times. You can tell it's 1981 and then 1984 and so on, but what counts most is how their sound always felt deeper to the listener as the band evolved. Listen to how they jam and rework their classic "Closer to the Heart," one of the very few songs included on all three DVD's and sounding more aged, classic, and polished every time they play.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best Queen Concerts.......2007-03-23

Queen is outstanding at this concert. Freddie is in peak form as well, gyrating and singing to rock it. Queen was one of the hardest working bands; you can definitely see it here. All songs were performed expertly and Freddie's vocals can't be beat. The whole band had the greatest energy and Freddie is quite beautiful dancing around as usual.

The Bonus DVD was surprisingly one of the best I've seen as far as bonus material. There's an interview with Brian and Roger together during this concert tour. And a great interview with just Freddie in Munich during the same tour. Freddie appears to be more relaxed than usual and is quite handsome (can't help it, he was a beauty).
Also included as bonus material, a few songs performed live at other concert locations during the tour. Queen's concert just goes on and on and on.
Queen fans will love this concert. This is a keeper.............

4 out of 5 stars Great Pop-Country Music.......2007-02-16

I've been a fan of Shania Twain since her first album. I was never a big country music fan, but Shania's music crosses the boundaries of pop, rock and country. I'm a professional musician (drummer for Electric Prunes, Linda Ronstadt, etc.)and I thoroughly enjoyed this video presentation of one of her best live concerts.

* Shaina on the Guitar
# Shania singing with a small Orchestra
% Shania playing the drums

The thing I really liked was when Shania asked these 3 little girls to come out and sing the opening of I'm gonna Getcha Good. Those little girls sounded like little angels. Also I enjoyed the part when Shnia was shaking evreyones hand and one girl in the audience was singing part of "She's not just a pretty face" into the Microphone. That girl is so lucky.

The saddest thing is that they don't have the videos and Interviews of Shania's visit to Chicago when she was not onstage. When they shown this concert on NBC and CMT, the best part was Shania getting to play for the Chicago Cubs baseball team for a day and going into the announcer's booth being the guest conductor and leading the crowd in Take me out to the ballgame. I loved that part. That was acually the highlight of Shania's visit to Chicago. It's sad they don't have it on this DVD. Still enjoy the video!

You haven't heard Queen's greatest hits until you've experienced them in surround sound on Greatest Video Hits 1. Disc 1 includes 16 of Queen's most popular singles, restored and remixed in 5.1-channel Dolby Digital and DTS, and the results are nothing less than spectacular. Reformatted for widescreen TVs, Queen's early videos are visually basic (typically combining lip-synched band footage with concert performance clips), but they effectively chronicle the group's musical and stylistic evolution, and "Bicycle Race" includes previously unseen footage of an all-nude female bicycle race! (Optional commentary is provided for all videos by guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor, with archival quotes from the late Freddie Mercury and bassist John Deacon.)

Disc 2, while not remixed, features six excellent videos (including the previously unseen "Liar"), and a hidden, alternate-edit video of "Bohemian Rhapsody" originally seen on Britain's Top of the Pops (and accessible by entering "Title 10, Chapter 1" on your DVD remote). "Bohemian Rhapsody" is the obvious highlight of both discs, and its history (both audio and video) is thoroughly explored, including May's fascinating deconstruction of the song's original studio recording tracks. Mandatory viewing for Queen fans, Video Hits 1 will leave you begging for Video Hits 2. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars a stellar compilation of 70's Queen classics.......2006-08-17

This is a very thorough collection of Queen promo videos from the first eight Queen albums. The bonus live footage and previously unseen gallery of photographs are especially worth the price of admission. The 5.1 surround sound mix doesn't hurt either!

4 out of 5 stars Great product, but poor videos.......2005-12-30

As other people have said, the audio quality is really excellent, but the videos themselves are just in so many cases horrible. It makes a big deal about how they've been painstakingly restored, but some of them look worse than those old videos they show in junior high science classes. That doesn't mean that they're not entertaining, though. It is cool to watch the progression of the band from their hair days to the mustache days, but a lot of the videos just look bad or aren't very impressive to begin with. Sometimes lip-synching just doesn't work out the way you plan it! The video for "Spread Your Wings" is really fun to watch, though. It was shot in freezing weather, and you can tell from the faces that Roger and John make that they just want to wrap it up and get inside. On the second disc there are extra videos, along with a featurette about the making of "Bohemian Rhapsody." It's quite fascinating to listen to Brian talk and talk about all the different overdubs they did in the song! All in all, it's definitely worth buying, but make no mistake: if you have GVH 2 already and are expecting the same, don't. The video quality is just so much poorer, but if you can get past that then it's a treasure trove of Queen!

5 out of 5 stars Great Version of the VHS Tape, and Extra Material.......2005-10-12

This Double DVD set is a superb version of the VHS tape I played to death. The Picture IS better, as well as the Audio. The HUGE difference is that the full Music Video plays, and the savage edits done by the "Torpedo Twins" are not used; this makes for a great set of QUEEN music videos... complete in all respects.
Disc two has some live extras that have previously only been available on the VHS tape called RARE LIVE, dating from 1973 onwards.
Add this together with the commentary, and the superbly detailed documentary of the Making of BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY and all things related, and it is a brilliant set. Hopefully many of the other commercially available VHS tapes will be brought to DVD, and this will allow a set of awesome QUEEN concert footage, and with any luck the 1976 HYDE PARK concert should be on DVD, if the BBC will release the tapes.

2 out of 5 stars The early videos dont really help the music.......2005-09-15

Queen's music is much stronger than their early videos. Most were poorly produced, or they used technology that severely dated the material. Most of the videos here have not been cleaned up and, quite frankly, look awful on modern televisions. And, since the videos are not groundbreaking or relevant to their music, they don't really matter much.

With that said, it is still an interesting look into how the band changed over the years, and its a chance to hear some great songs that never get airplay (such as Spread Your Wings). The commentary is good at times, but at others it is simply boring. In addition, it appears Roger and Brian did the commentary, while old interview clips from John are just dropped in... as if he were sitting there commenting too.

Perhaps the most distracting thing about this DVD is the main menu and the painful way you have to scroll through each song before you get to the one you want.

3 out of 5 stars Queen - Greatest Video Hits 1.......2005-08-18

Back in October 2002, I first bought this dvd. I was in awe when I watched it. To me it was pretty rare. At that time I had been a Queen fan for about a almost 2 years. I thought this was really excellent. But then I went on the internet and there are so much more rare videos. Like the early videos from the actually good albums.
I've only seen a few pictures of the videos, but they are pretty good. What the creators of this dvd should do is make a dvd with all the complete videos. That's a 5 disc collection, that would rock. They should also officaly release the Queen concerts. Instead of all these bootlegs and everything. Well all in all I'll give this 4/5 stars. They have the main videos, but not a lot of the early ones. Long live Queen.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent, In-Depth Look at a Queen Masterpiece (4.5 stars).......2006-11-08

In 1975, Queen were a band on the rise. They just had a hit single with "Killer Queen" off the "Sheer Heart Attack" and were set to release their 4th studio album. "A Night at the Opera" marked Queen's breakthrough, which spawned 2 hit singles, one of them being one of the most popular singles of all time. This song of course was "Bohemian Rhapsody", Freddie Mercury's epic, 6 minute long operatic force. John Deacon also contributed a delightful pop hit with "You're My Best Friend." It wasn't just these two singles that made this album so classic though.

Brian May and Roger Taylor give excellent, detailed descriptions of the work that went into recording and writing many of the songs off the album. "Death on Two Legs" was Freddie's heavy opener, and the DVD takes an excellent excerpt of a Mercury interview where he describes the idea behind the song. Brian May goes through his song structures and writing techniques for "The Prophet's Song", "'39", "Good Company" and "Sweet Lady." Roger Taylor explains the drum-work for "I'm in Love With My Car." However, John Deacon doesn't participate in any interviews, and Roger and Brian discuss how he wishes to live the "quiet life." If you are a Queen fan, this is great footage of the band members detailing the work done on these songs, and along with in-depth analysis and summaries of every song on the album, there are extras. Included is a live version of "Sweet Lady" at Hyde Park, Brian May's performance of "'39" and "Love of My Life", performed by Freddie and Brian.

This a worthwhile DVD if you are a Queen fan who loves this particular album, and are interested in how it was composed so brilliantly. Highly recommended to all fans of Queen.

4 out of 5 stars A Great Companion for any Queen CD Collection.......2006-11-05

I'm a big fan of the 'Classic Albums' DVD series. As a fan, I'd rather see and hear about my favorite musicians' triumphs rather than their personal failures (ala' "Behind the Music"). If you're a fan of the group being profiled, you're going to enjoy the behind-the-scenes look at the making of their best-known album. I'm a Queen fan, and I thoroughly enjoyed this video.

There's a lot of archival footage of Queen's mid-70s stage act (though not of the footage shows the band in the studio actually recording their music). Brand-new interviews with both Brian May and Roger Taylor comprise the bulk of this DVD's running time. Brian and Roger are as soft-spoken and thoughtful as always and I've always appreciated their dry sense of humor. Roy Thomas Baker, the album's producer, also appears sporadically as do a handful of executves who were in power at Elektra Records when Queen were under contract there. (Elektra were Queen's American distributors at one time; I am surprised no one from EMI was interviewed as this was Queen's British label). There are some rock journalists and British DJs. A variety of minor rock celebrities (Nuno Bettencourt, Joe Perry) pop in but provide very little. Freddie Mercury, of course, only appears in grainy vintage TV interviews from the early 1980s. John Deacon apparently is letting his bass work speak for itself as he declined requests to be interviewed for this project.

There are many, many highlights to both Brian's and Roger's interviews. Brian, in particular, gently reminds us that although 'A Night at the Opera' was considered Queen's breakthrough album, it really exists in a continuity of musical styles and techniques going back to Queen's first album. Brian plays us excerpts of 'March of the Black Queen' and 'Procession' to bring the point home. It's always a delight to see Brian play his Red Special guitar (or an Ovation) to make a musical point, and Brian freely credits Freddie Mercury for authoring some of Queen's heaviest riffs. It's also a treat to hear Brian's solo acoustic takes on both '39' and 'Love of my Life.' Roger shares a wonderful story in which Groucho Marx gave his blessing to Queen's appropriation of the Marx Brothers' film title to their album, and its an anecdote that isn't often retold.

There are also a series of 'extras' which were apparently cut from the TV Special version of this DVD. For what it's worth, I would have prefered if these sequences were simply re-edited into the continuity of the video. Still, they are great to have and the DVD is stronger for their inclusion.

If you're a Queen fan (especially of the 1970s material), you'll definitely want to own this DVD. While Queen experts may already know most or all of the stories included here, it's a great tribute to one of rock music's most adventurous bands.

5 out of 5 stars A Cool Masterpiece!..........2006-10-02

It was really a pleasure to see this DVD and realise the renewed personalities of drummer Roger Taylor and guitarist Brian May. If you remember after that Freddie passed away (RIP), they were really in a dark, gloomy mood. I don't remember their tranquility and peace of mind in an interview, since all happened, 6 years ago.
This DVD really is illustrative with an extensive analysis of the recording process song by song with Roy Thomas Baker and Brian May (I don't know if it had would been better to add the comments of Roy Thomas Baker about the making of "Bohemian Rhapsody" that appear in "THE MAGIC YEARS" vol. I), special Roger's drum demostration (almost a clinic!... If you aren't a drummer, with these tips you can understand better the Roger Taylor style), with good introspective interviews (and the reason of the John Deacon's disappearing of the musical scene), with people that lived the bankrup of the band in '74, and finally, the making of an extraordinary masterpiece: the A NIGHT AT THE OPERA album. It's interesting see the live footage and performances between one and another interview, and a good example of this is the live track "SWEET LADY" from the DVD LIVE AT THE HYDE PARK, '76... Good Luck!

3 out of 5 stars very weak audio.......2006-09-07

I think their original intention was to give you an insight to the behind the scenes making of the album...what you end up with is a very light overview of what happened. Lacking the presence of Freddie and John Deacon...most of what you're hearing and seeing are assumptions and opinions of half a band. They really aren't sharing any secret studio tricks with you that hadn't been made available at earlier dates.

I agree with the other reviewer who commented....since when are Joe Perry...Nuno Bettencord and Ian Hunter considered Queen experts.....at least Ian was playing the same local London bar circuit back in the pre-fame days as Queen were..and was classified as "glam rock"..so they climbed up from the same streets.

I wasn't very pleased with the audio.....very weak output.

My bottom line opinion is: The remainer of Queen are just cashing in on anything they can use to generate more income. This video is just a trip down memory lane with some of the people involved in the making of a great album. Just as they are doing by touring with Paul Rodgers and billing themselves as Queen and Paul Rodgers....They need to come up with a new name to represent their project...Queen died when Freddie did....and John Deacon pretty much made his mind known when he refused to be a part of any further musical projects. Sometimes you need to let go and move on.

5 out of 5 stars Buy it.......2006-05-13

This is a great DVD. For me, the original album gets only 4 stars. While brilliant, it has a couple of uninteresting tracks (Good Company, Sweet Lady and God Save The Queen). The rest though, Rocks!!!
The Making Of DVD is incredible. So interesting, I love hearing Brian and Roger talk. Watching them play is worth the price of the DVD alone.
I always thought '39 was about the Second World War. Silly me.
For me, I would love to hear the original 9 minute version of Bo Rhap and hoped it would be on here. It isn't which is a shame. Perhaps one day it will surface.
My version has the DVD of Night At The Opera (released on its own a couple of years ago) included, the 5.1 surround sounds amazing.
Hopefully they do A Day At The Races next as that is my favourite Queen and All Time album.

Nothing encourages one to ignore those silly contradictions in Shania Twain's music (is she country? is she pop?) like a collection of her highly playful videos. The Platinum Collection rolls right over boundaries of tradition and genre with its concentration of imaginative, often surprising visuals. "The Woman in Me," for instance, is set among Egypt's pyramids, while "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" finds a stunning Twain fronting a band of mindless hunks in a funny reversal of Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love" video. "You're Still the One," easily one of Twain's most affecting songs, still holds up as a softly erotic short film. Even Twain's more prosaic videos (the go-kart mania of "You Win My Love") bear repeat viewing, but it's her heck-with-it aesthetic that leads to such unexpected sights as Irish step dancing in "Don't Be Stupid (You Know I Love You)." Then, of course, there are those hot pants in "Rock This Country!" Long may Shania wave. --Tom Keogh

Great Collection! This really showcases Shania's different styles of video. A fun DVD. "From This Moment" is my husband's and my favorite!

2 out of 5 stars Barbi Doll.......2006-04-02

I don't really like video collections. Live music is so much more interesting. The only exception I can think of to that rule is the video collection by Tom Petty, because he put out the most imaginative and well produced videos.

I'd much rather see Shania actually singing and relating to an audience than lipping it to these recorded songs. The only songs on this vid that are live are the last two, and one of them is the boring Rock This Country, one of her weakest songs, a sort of takeoff on Donnie and Marie's I'm A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit Rock and Roll.

It's mostly all glitz and glitter. It's mostly just seeing the latest outfit and makeup Shania is wearing. That is superficial. Let's have a real person instead. I don't care about the outfits and the makeup. Seeing her pretend to sing just doesn't cut it. I've heard these exact versions of the songs plenty of times. Come On Over is a fantastic album.

She looks great, particularly in her Hawaiian look during the romantic You've Got A Way. I love that song and I love her Hawaiian look. It's all so romantic. I'm not wild about her look when she's wearing slacks or sweat pants. It makes the bottom half of her look so ordinary and boring. She looks so much better in something feminine. Sporty Spice is not a turn on and is not romantic.

If you want to turn it up a notch in your music videos, pick up somebody's live performance. It's a whole different feeling. Granted, some of them aren't the greatest, but when they are good, they are a lot better than this. You actually see a real person on stage. Not just Barbi Doll in her newest outfit and makeup.

3 out of 5 stars Her music videos, part 1.......2006-03-21

Her most recent hits are NOT included in this collection. This package covers up to "Come On Over"... and includes most of her hits from the 90s and early 00s. This is, though, an interesting look at how a superstar made the transition from country bumpkin' to international "don't-peg-me-as-country-anything-my-image-is-universal" pop star. The package starts with Shania's country roots as she sings her earliest hits and looks more like a Loretta Lynn-wannabe than the Sporty Spice clone her handlers transformed her into when "Come On Over" launched her into superstar territory. It also shows how flashy music videos progressed over the past 15 years. Unless you're a diehard Shania fan from her early years, you'll only be watching the second half of this collection. There's even a couple of live concerts clips to break up her later videos, which have lots to do with "artsy" and little to do with the lyrics. If you're into close-ups of her piercing eyes and high cheekbones, you won't be disappointed. She's one of the most photogenic singer/songwriters this hemisphere has offered in decades... and some of the songs are catchy, too.

In the mid and late 1980s, Def Leppard was the biggest-selling rock band around, and the two programs on this DVD collection hark back to the British quintet's commercial heyday. Historia is an 85-minute look at the band's videos circa 1980-1988, from its debut, "Hello America," to its huge radio hits "Pour Some Sugar on Me" and "Love Bites." These videos, either silly "concepts" or lip-synched performances, are par for the early-MTV course. In the Round, in Your Face is a 90-minute concert culled from the 1988 Hysteria world tour; the excited fans are as much the show as the band, especially when hit after hit, from the opening "Stagefright" to the closing "Photograph," is played. --Kevin Filipski

5 out of 5 stars Liked these on VHS, love them on DVD, must have for Leppard fans.......2007-04-26

I originally collected these on VHS, great collections themselves individually. But, now on DVD, the quality is a bit better, the sound rules, and the 5 bonus videos, (work it out, Slang, all I want is everything, promises, goodbye), round out a great def leppard collection. Historia contains earlier versions of videos and my personal favorite leppard song video, Rock Rock, which was only released in Japan on video, and on historia for our viewing pleasure. So, must have for the Leppard fans, check it out, great value too here on amazon. Also pick up the Visualize/VideoArchive DVD to round out the Leppard DVD collection, and don't forget the Rock Of Ages DVD.

4 out of 5 stars Def Leppard - Historia/In the Round, In Your Face.......2007-01-26

If you are a fan of Def, you will want to add this DVD to your collection. It has most all of the old MTV videos and live concert footage. We are quite pleased with this purchase. Wish there was more video/concert footage from the Def of old, so if anyone knows of any other out there, place a post. Is it just me, or does anyone else think that Joe Elliot needs to go back to the dark hair? I always thought that he looked better before he started dying the hair. Just my opinion. Also, anyone that can drum with one arm is pretty darn impressive. A DEFinite must see!!

5 out of 5 stars Great DVD.......2007-01-20

Great DVD for the true Def Leppard Fan..a must have for your collection!

5 out of 5 stars An Awesome Value for your money.......2007-01-19

This CD is absolutely awesome!!! It starts with the progression of video tapes from raw talent to the band at the top of their game! Gives me flashbacks to the days when MTV actually played videos! I fell in love with Def Leppard in 1981 and they still are #1 with me (an honor they hold with Bon Jovi- who I saw the first time in 1983).
The video portion is followed by an exciting, adrenaline pumping, testosterone flowing concert in the round. I crank it up loud on my Cerwin Vegas and suddenly...I'm there...back with my "big hair" in the best decade in my life. This is a treasure to keep for all times. It's a shame that such a talented handsome genius,Steve Clark, had to leave us so soon.
The special features add bonus videos along with interviews with the band members. You will not be disappointed and will want to see this video over and over!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Old Leppard Fix...for now.......2007-01-16

I previously purchased another dvd, Def Leppard Rock of Ages and was pretty disappointed. As a a huge fan of the first 3 installments from Def Leppard I was looking for footage and concerts from Pre-Hysteria.

This DVD, while not completely comprehensive, offers up a lot of what I was looking for. Including a set (Die Hard the Hunter) from the Hysteria tour at the now defunct McNichols Arena in Denver.

The early videos really brought me back. Hello America and Let It Go were great.

Hopefully, Def Leppard puts a few more concerts out on DVD for fans of their earlier work but for now this works.

Product Description

At 6pm on April 20th, 1992, Roger Taylor, Brian May and John Deacon, the surviving members of Queen, took to the stage of London's legendary Wembley Stadium to announce the start of one of the biggest events in rock history, organised by Queen themselves to pay tribute to their former colleague - the incomparable Freddie Mercury. The atmosphere of emotion, mixed with joy and sadness, shared by stadium audience, worldwide television viewers, and performers alike, was an experience that will never be forgotten Queen had invited some of the greatest musical talent in the world to join them in paying tribute to Freddie, who tragically died of AIDS on the 24th of November, 1991. The aim of the concert was to celebrate Freddie's life and work, but also to increasepublic awareness of the awful disease which prematurely ended his life. A bonus result was a huge and still growing sum of money raised by the event and its spin-offs which has provided funds to help fight AIDS worldwide ever since. All the guest artists offered their participation for free. The concert was broadcast live on television and radio to 76 countries, from the USA to Russia, and all proceeds, then and now, go to the Mercury Phoenix Trust, a charity formed at that time whose charter is the relief of suffering from AIDS throughout the world. The 72,000 people who were fortunate enough to see the concert live did so in glorious Spring weather in front of a stage 370 ft wide by 90 feet deep. The Stage was flanked by scaffolding towers over 80 ft tall, and crowned at the centre of the proscenium arch by a giant Phoenix - a symbol from Queen's crest designed by Freddie in 1969, and now the emblem of the Mercury Phoenix Trust. It is a lasting tribute to be shared by all. Profits from this DVD will be donated by the Mercury Phoenix Trust to AIDS charities; thank you for buying it.

1 out of 5 stars COMPLETELY DISAPPOINTING!.......2007-05-27

If I could give it a "0" stars I would. They cut all the best performances out of this DVD from the original airing. ESPECIALLY the amazing Extreme Medley...as well as Def Leppard performing "Now I'm Here" with Brian May (which was ironic as they showed Joe Elliott and Brian May in the cover booklet.

I wish I could get my money back.

5 out of 5 stars Freddie Mercury is alive.......2007-03-24

Great DVD. If you are a Queen's fan, must add this show to your collection.

4 out of 5 stars A great tribute to a Great Man.......2007-03-09

Freddie, as I've mentioned in my "Queen+Paul Rodgers" review was/is absolutely irreplaceable. Although there are several members of bands that I've been in that I wouldn't have missed at ALL, should THEY have taken a dirt bath, Brian May, John Deacon, & Roger Taylor are to be commended for quelling their grief at Freddie's loss. And, believe me, the magnitude of Freddie's loss is sadly, brazenly displayed here, "other" performers "doing" Freddie's part. In the "oh, be serious" category, a couple of members of "Guns 'n Roses" display how poorly they play/sing, and...well, my Mama always told me, "if you can't say anything nice about somebody, don't say anything at all" - so I won't mention Elton John or George Michael. And although I have quibbled about David Bowie of late ("Americans Scare Me?"), he is definitely THE STAR here: on "Under Pressure," he duets with the great Annie Lenox, late of Eurhythmics (I don't know how to spell it and it's a stupid name!), and she is great, although that black makeup around her eyes is very distracting from her beauty. Then Bowie reminisces about the music scene, late sixties/early seventies, and brings out Ian Hunter & Mick Ronson of Mott The Hoople. They, with Queen, perform an effervescent "All The Young Dudes." Finally, Hunter leaves, and Bowie/Ronson/Queen perform an almost tender version of "Heroes," a song from Bowie's "lost in the wilderness days." But what happens next is so shocking that it - alone - justifies the price of the DVD: Bowie drops to one knee and prays The Lord's Prayer. And I'm grateful that we get to see Mick Ronson (who, by all rights, SHOULD have gotten R Wood's job when Mick Taylor left the Stones in 1974) perform his last concert. He's suffering from the cancer that would kill him just over a year later, but, by his performance here, you'd never know it. These are MY interpretations of the Tribute Concert Film. For more information about "whose performance was not included," refer to all the other reviewers - and remember that I DIDN'T say "justifiably," either.

4 out of 5 stars Pure Entertainment and music superstars.......2007-03-08

It's an original aproach to Queen Music from the point of view of many top artists. I enjoyed the full concert and the A&E Music special with backstages and some cool stuff. If you are a Queen or Freddye's fan, this DVD must be in your hands.

5 out of 5 stars Gotta love Queen.......2007-01-15

First purchased on Laser Disk. Had to modernize. Was very happy to see it available. If you love Queen, you'll love this. The numerous performers did an excellent job singing Mercury's songs. A very respectable tribute.
