This phenomenally popular reality TV series that put the Learning Channel on the map obviously hopes to further build its fan base with this nearly two-hour collection of memorable moments, behind-the-scenes segments, and crew profiles. The premise: Two sets of neighbors have 48 hours to redo a room in each other's home. At their disposal are a designer, a carpenter, and a $1,000 budget. Most entertaining are the "reveals," presented in too-brief "Love it" and "Hate it" segments. These are all subjective, of course. One couple loved their new safari-inspired bedroom. I thought it made Graceland look like Monticello. Those new to the series might want to get a few episodes under their (tool) belt to really appreciate this. Fans of the series will make it a valuable addition to their DVD library. --Donald Liebenson
Description
THE BEST OF THE BEST. Take the coolest show on daytime TV, select the best moments plus never-before-seen outrageous footage, and you have The Best of Trading Spaces. This unique DVD captures the fun, creative side of the crew and homeowners and places them in an interactive format. Meet each crew member in specially edited vignettes. Witness extreme reveals (when the homeowners see their redesigned rooms for the first time) complete with awkward moments of truth. And go behind the scenes for never-before-seen bloopers and outtakes. It's the best of the best! DO UNTO YOUR NEIGHBORS... In this one-of-a-kind decorating show, two sets of neighbors swap keys to transform one room in each other's home. They have two days, a set budget, and they're not allowed back into their own homes until the moment of truth. This is the "how-to" with a neighborly twist.
Customer Reviews:
A must see for anyone considering trading their space.......2007-03-22
I watched this DVD because I thought I'd learn something about decorating (can you tell I've seldom seen this TV series?). Instead I learned that it is definitely not a good idea to turn over a room of your house to the producers of this show. The DVD reveals the behind-the-scenes interactions between the decorators and worker-bee neighbors. Although the decorators are fun and entertaining, some try to bully the neighbors into assisting with a makeover that the neighbors insist the homeowners will hate (and they are proved right). A natural approach would be to detect the homeowners' taste and take it to another level. Instead, the decorators seem to be asking themselves, how can I make this room dramatically different (thereby abandoning any pretense of pleasing the homeowners). Even the section that purports to show the reactions of people who love their makeovers falls flat--anyone who can read faces knows that at least one spouse in most of those segments was unhappy or at least unimpressed. I gave the DVD an intermediate rating because although it teaches little about decorating it would be educational for anyone considering applying for the show.
Bad Designers .......2007-02-04
This DVD is almost as bad as the show has become. 99% of the designers should all be castigated for being selfish, self-centered emotional "artists" who DO NOT take into consideration the lifestyles and tastes of the homeowners. Yes, they're working with neighbors, but the designers rarely if ever listen to what the neighbors KNOW their friends are looking for. Have you looked at the faces of people who walk into the new rooms?!?! The vast majority are stricken, feeling ill.
Where do they find these designers? They sure aren't "Christopher Lowell". There is a way to meld your style as a designer to the client, and if totally at odds, the client should prevail. Boo hiss to this show. It's nothing but shock-value TV to me at this point.
Super short footage!.......2005-07-07
This footage was sooo short and only showed highlights. The biggest disappointment was Ty Pennington was not shirtless in this DVD!
Awesome.......2005-06-27
I don't have this DVD but I want it because I love remodeling shows such as Trading Spaces, Monster House, Extreme Makeover Home Edition, and a lot more. I am asking for it for my birthday. Besides I want to be either a carpenter, designer, interior designer, enterior designer, interior decorator, exterior decorater, or a contracter. So I am totally hooked.
The Best Show Ever.......2005-06-27
I don't have this DVD, yet. I want it for my birthday. I think since Trading Spaces is such a great show, I think it will be a useful DVD. That's why I think this DVD should recive 5 stars.

The age-old oriental form of Feng-Shui has been a way of life for millions of people over the centuries, and today it is becoming an increasingly popular practice in the western world. With the aim of creating harmony and balance, Feng-Shui can be the perfect way to help regain control and calmness over the everyday stresses and strains of life.

A Day at the Spa should be a REQUIRED video for everyone.
Compass Feng Shui.......2006-06-05
A Day at the Spa: Feng Shui introduces compass Feng Shui as related to a magic square. This is not as easy to understand as other Feng Shui DVDs I've watched, but there were quite a few new things to learn about dispelling negative energy in your home and how rows of books on a shelf or even a plant placed on a step can help to increase the positive flow of energy.
Should you paint your front door purple or create more harmony by placing symbolic objects in specific rooms? The benefits of essential oils is an interesting aspect and it may make you think more about candles or buying cinnamon or patchouli. There are beautiful scenes in nature and explanations of why this age-old art works to promote a sense of peace. I can tell you one thing, when you first move into a house and everything is still in boxes, there is definitely a sense of confusion. Once you have everything back in place, it seems like life is much less stressful. So, you can truly test Feng Shui out in real life to find out if it works for you. I'm much happier now that my books are back on the shelves.
While this DVD does not focus on the use of color, there is a fun section where you can figure out which color you should paint your front door and there are ideas about which colors to use in rooms according to your compass analysis. A compass is needed to follow this style of Feng Shui and I found it a little more complex than other methods. As with every Feng Shui DVD I watch, I learn something new and will definitely be buying plants for the stairs to encourage a more positive flow of energy into the house. The Day at the Spa DVDs are also just fun to watch because they are very calming.

Customer Reviews:
Must see movie.......2007-06-28
If you want to feel comfortable with yourself, don't watch this film. Decoration Day propels you out of complacency and into personal growth. After first viewing the film for its beauty and honesty, sit down and ponder the truths it so skillfully reveals. Based on a more complex novella by John William Corrington, the film is nevertheless rich in relationships among men and women in community. Judge Finch (James Garner) and Old Gee (Bill Cobbs) provide an interpersonal history against which an honest human can examine prejudice and race relations. Other relationships protrayed by the excellent supporting cast deepen the main plot through revealing other ways in which humans separate themselves from one another.
An Exceptional Film.......2002-07-08
Set in the state of Georgia, James Garner renders a powerful and very sensitive performance of a Judge who following the death of his wife, retires from the bench. He tries to with-draw from life esconced in his own grief and bitterness. The mys-tery surrounding an old friend's refusal to accept the Congressional Medal of Honor, and the personal crises in the lives of those closest to him, compel him to step back into the mainstream of society . As he reaches beyond his own pain and into lives of others, he not only becomes an anchor for them, but finds a renewed reason for living, himself.
The supporting cast is superb, esp. Bill Cobbs and Ruby Dee.
This is an exceptional film, providing wholesome entertainment.
Decoration Day - Great Movie.......2002-04-13
Decoration Day is a great movie - lots of heart and such a fine family show. It reminds us not to make assumptions when we don't have all the facts and shows the great value of friendship and family.
5 stars all the way!.......2000-12-20
James Garner plays a retiring judge who becomes an unwilling, but interested player in a story centered around the government's plan to award the Medal of Honor to an African American man because of heroic actions during WWII's Battle of the Bulge. Here's the catch -- the man doesn't want to have anything to do with medal!
Garner is convinced that he should intervene and persuade the man to accept the medal. A story of racism, bitterness, decepetion, and revelation unfolds as the movie progresses. Be sure to watch for an interesting, unexpected plot twist toward the end.
This is top-notch drama, and a real treat for James Garner fans.
5 stars all the way! Watch this movie, you'll be glad you did. This is the "Hallmark Hall of Fame" at its best!
Alan Holyoak
Pleasing drama.......1999-07-10
James Garner stars as a retired judge who is widowed but has a wonderful housekeeper who still keeps him in line. All he wants to do is spend his days fishing and live without any hassles. A call for help from family for an old friend and he finds himself caught up in the human drama that leads to his own renewal. Great performances by James Garner and Judith Ivey and beautiful cenima make this movie a delight.
