In his most effective thriller since Enemy of the State, Tony Scott makes time travel seem plausible. It helps that his New Orleans hero, ATF agent Doug Carlin (Denzel Washington in his third go-round with the director), spends more time in the present than the past. In order to catch a terrorist, FBI Agent Pryzwarra (Val Kilmer) invites Carlin to join forces. They have the technology to see the past. He has the expertise to interpret the data. Unfortunately, the bomb has already gone off and hundreds of ferry passengers have died. Then there's the body of a beautiful woman, Claire Kuchever (Paula Patton, Idlewild), that turns up in the vicinity of the blast. Evidence indicates she was killed beforehand. Since the FBI enables him to observe Claire prior to her murder, Carlin gets to know what she was like and finds himself falling in love. He becomes convinced that the only way to solve the case--and prove her innocence--is to travel to the past. But as Pryzwarra's colleague, Denny (Adam Goldberg), argues, "You cannot go back in time. It's physically impossible." Or so he says. Déjà Vu is constructed around a clever script and executed by a top-notch cast, notably Washington, Patton, and an eerie Jim Caviezel (miles away from Passion of the Christ). In shedding the excesses of recent years--the sadism of Man on Fire and weirdness of Tarantino favorite Domino--Scott re-affirms his rep as one of the action movie's finest practitioners. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

I Need Her To Matter To You" ~ We Can't Change The Past, Or Can We?.......2007-07-05
`Déjà vu' released in '05 stars some of my favorite male stars active today; Denzel Washington, Val Kilmer and James Caviezel. Add to the rooster the talented Adam Goldberg and the devastatingly attractive Paula Patton and you've got all the necessary ingredients necessary to provide a truly great viewing experience. However even with a cast of that caliber the film doesn't quite deliver all the potential it could have.
Time travel movies are always popular but could be a little tricky at times. I think the script handles the scientific explanation of time travel and warping space surprising well but some sequences are a little to unrealistic at times and you can only ask an audience to suspend reality for only so long. I also found the ending to make no sense whatsoever so that definitely is a minus. On the positive side, the romantic angle works wonderfully and Denzel Washington's love interest Paula Patton is drop dead gorgeous. `Déjà vu' combines the futuristic vision of `Minority Report' (`02) with the romantic longing of the '44 classic `Laura'. Not too bad a combination don't you think?
Repeatability Factor: Well worth at least one viewing but that's about it unless you're watching just to see Paula again.
A movie worth watching!.......2007-06-29
Deja Vu brings to the screen the story of an ATF agent as he tries to find those responsible for detonating a bomb aboard a riverboat in New Orleans killing hundreds of people. The investigation will lead to some unexpected discoveries including one that would blow most peoples' minds in a heartbeat...
There are slight hints of the X-Files, and strong elements of Timecop (Jean Claude Van Damme), Frequency (Dennis Quaid, James Caviezel), and The Lake House (Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock).
Denzel Washington, Paula Patton, and the rest of the cast, have truly outdone themselves with their performances, which are outstanding to say the least! All the actors, without exceptions, give it their 100% and it really shows (the chemistry is AMAZING)! Very well written and very well presented, the movie is without a doubt guaranteed to provide more than just a few thrills, not to mention a few tears.
The setting, the plot, the dialogues, and the music are all wonderful!
In conclusion, Deja Vu is a movie definitely worth watching and one to seriously consider adding to your movie collection as it is one of those films that gets you and keeps you thinking long after it's over. 4.5 Stars
Captivating Movie From Star To Finish!.......2007-06-29
Wasn't quite sure what to expect when I rented this movie.... It was a lot better than I anticipated as I thought it would be some cheesy suspense movie, but it wasn't.
It was a combination action/suspense, science-fiction, time travel, and a bit of romance thrown in at the end kind of movie. The acting was superb as well as the storyline.... With the created/fabricated technology and time travel used in movie, I wasn't sure how it all was going to fit together! But everything worked itself into a neat tightly fit package by the end of the movie.
A pretty interesting take on reaching back into the past to investigate the present.......2007-06-20
Denzel Washington always makes me want to believe in any movie he is in. Here he plays ATF agent Doug Carlin who is brought in to investigate a ferry bombing that killed more than 500 people. Some odd details start bothering him including the body of Caire Kuchever (played very well by the beautiful Paula Patton). At first she looks like another victim of the blast on the ferry, but Agent Carlin notices some things that don't match up.
Agent Pryzwarra (a nicely done turn by Val Kilmer) brings Carlin into a special investigative unit that has a special tool to view a stream from the past. I can't get into details of this team or much more of the movie because unraveling it is part of the fun of the film. You know from the title of the film that it has something to do with reliving the past, but how this film does it is pretty fresh. There is one very cool car chase that includes trying to drive in the present to keep in view the villain in a car from the past and is something I hadn't seen before.
Yes, there are things in the plot that require artificial limits on things and require the cast to say and not say or do or not do things that would make things much more mundane and realistic, but still, as a romantic thriller, it is a pretty good entertainment. And they do pull things together more neatly than one might expect from the early scenes.
So, enjoy the film. It is a pretty good way to have some fun.
Not A Cool Movie.......2007-06-20
Denzel Washington in this movie is way too emotional and not nearly as cool as in other movies like "Training Day". He was basically a stalker!
Another thing I didn't like about this movie is the computer graphics. The director must have believed we will think the past viewer CG so cool and like it so much that he used it over and over again. On the contrary, I feel slightly insulted to be thought of that way. I like computer graphics in movies that are used to reproduce reality to show spectacular scenes that cannot be shot otherwise, like those in Star Wars episodes. However, I loath CG used as if it were something cool, e.g. CG on computer user-interface. When PCs are so ubiquitous these days everybody can tell a good user-interface from a bad one. And bad ones are not cool to me, no matter how much computer graphics you put into it. They should have just showed the past viewer as a Windows-based application as would be developed in research institutions in reality today.

One of Denzel's best ...........2007-06-13
Deja Vu [Blu-ray] Perhaps because we had not seen this film before, we were completely satisfied with Deja Vu. The Blu-ray edition was worth the added expense and Denzel was excellent. Recommend this for an evening of compelling movie-watching. It has a story and the story keeps you involved.
A different approach to a typical "action movie"..........2007-05-17
I watched the blu-ray version of this film, and the picture is stunning. Color saturation, black levels and sheer image crispness make this movie one of the finest i've seen yet on blu-ray. As for the movie's story it's pretty simple. Washington is an atf-agent sent to investigate a bombing aboard a New Orleans ferry where he meets Val Kilmer's character. Kilmer's an fbi agent who is in charge of a top secret "surveilance" project assined to this case as well. It's pretty clear early on that there is going to be some time travel in this flick, especially with a title like "Deja-vu". But the director knows how implausible this premise is, and tries hard to pull the viewer into the emotional side of this bombing first. This works with a lot of help from Washington's conviction to a beautiful victim of the attack...or is she? All the little clues of her death & the case in general don't add up. This combined with Denzel's performance makes the viewer care. It makes us want to stop this thing before it ever happens. I could empathize with Washington's desperation to try anything to help the girl, and of course stop this 'terrorist attack'. It's at this point where the film draws you into the techincal side of how Kilmer's fbi-team accidentally figured out a way to witness the crime scene before it actually happens...hmm. Anyhow, there are some nifty action pieces a lot of which revolve around the premise that all the events leading up to the attack are intertwined. True, there are a few times where whats happening onscreen can be a little confusing. That's okay. The movie-goer is supposed to be in a flux at these times. It's all going somewhere, so don't overthink it. One could endlessly analyze all of the parallels of time-travel until...well, the end of time, (ha-ha)...instead, just roll with the premise of this film, and have fun. It's a typical good-guy/bad-guy action movie, but with a fresh approach to the genre.

Falling neatly into the Enchanted April and Under the Tuscan Sun category, the made-for-HBO My House in Umbria boasts lovely Italian vistas and comforting Englishness. But it begins with a note of violence: on a train rolling through the sunny countryside, a terrorist bomb detonates, killing a handful of passengers. The strangers that survive recuperate at the villa of an eccentric but kindly romance novelist, also a survivor of the blast. She's played by Maggie Smith, who bustles through the role with a pleasing mix of gin and daffodils. Chris Cooper is an uptight American who comes to the villa to pick up his orphaned niece and bristles at the bohemian atmosphere. Director Richard Loncraine maintains the melancholy mood amidst the sun-dappled gardens of Umbria, but Smith really holds the film together with her authority and slightly tipsy humor. --Robert Horton
Description
Based on the acclaimed novel by William Trevor, My House in Umbria is a charming, evocative drama about a group of travelers in Italy who find solace and friendship after being thrown together by tragedy.
Customer Reviews:
A multistory level story of healing to delight for the whole family.......2007-06-08
This movie has wonderful, lovable characters that take you through joy, sadness, hope, challenge and especially teamwork with caring....setting is beautiful, Maggie Smith her gorgeous best.....it is the kind of story that could motivate some wonderful family discussions albeit with some difficult and some lovely themes and topics....I have given it to many people for gifts...one set of grandparents who have experienced a granddaughter muted by loss to another friend who consulted on the garden at my new house. A very highly recommended movie.
The woman is awesome..........2007-05-26
Maggie Smith lovers should not be without this HBO film. Age cannot hamper nor time diminish the beauty of this woman and her work. The story conveys the richness of rising above pain by giving as much love and understanding as one can in return. Supported by a superb cast, the film encompasses mystery, humor and pathos, not to mention the beauty of the landscape. Maggie rules!
Nonsense in Umbria.......2007-04-12
Maggie Smith is a wonderful actress and the Italian scenery is photographed to a luminous perfection, but the storyline of My House in Umbria is an exasperating mess. As the grande dame romance novelist with a dark past and a relentless imagination, our heroine makes a sloppy but sometimes piercingly insightful drunk: a complex and comprehensible character, a woman to be wary of. This marvelous mystery lady is even surrounded by a fine ensemble cast. But all these interesting actors are cast adrift in an unfinished plot hinting at complications it hasn't any idea what to do with. You're set on edge for some elusive explanation that they never get to. Just when you were convinced it didn't matter any more they toss you an extra clue or two, and then finally they expect you to be charmed by an off-camera change of heart in the cold American uncle who has never given the slightest indication of being thawed out by the warmth of either Italy or the lady of the house, such an unbelievable turn of events that you expect her to awaken from a dream so you can find out what really happened. Again and again I had to ask myself, Are these really the facts of the story? Or are we just muddling about in her imagination? And of the whole movie: Are we really expected to take this immense display of sentimentality at face value? Or is there an undercurrent here that would make sense of it all if they would just get to the point? Unfortunately these questions were never reasonably answered.
My House in Umbria.......2007-04-10
DVD would not play. DVD stuck and would not go forward.
Cheers Maggie.......2007-03-30
This is a classic Maggie Smith, with a very brave protrayal of her charachter. The plot moves about, but you slowly begin to realize that her character is narating to you and bringing the other characters to life.
Not that you would need help. If you are a Maggie Smith fan... and it's why I bought the movie.... you will not be disapointed. It's one of her best if you wan't a taste of Maggie.

The political becomes personal in 9/11: Press for Truth, which examines the World Trade Center attacks from the perspective of the families who lost loved ones. Written and directed by Ray Nowosielski, the documentary draws partly from Paul Thompson's website-turned-book, The Terror Timeline, and much of the commentary comes from Lorie Van Auken, Patty Casazza, and Mindy Kleinberg, three of the "Jersey Girls." Along with Kristen Breitweiser, the 9/11 widows have become activists in its wake. As Casazza says, "We all had questions...and wanted answers." The primary one was: How could this happen? Interestingly, two of the women voted for Bush. Casazza adds, "Even though he should have been our biggest advocate, he turned into one of our biggest adversaries." Together with eight other spouses, parents, etc., they form the Family Steering Committee and lobby for an independent commission, which comes to pass, but fails to deliver the goods. The widows find more useful information in Thompson's timeline, which he compiled using material in the public domain (Thompson also appears in the film). The style of 9/11: Press for Truth couldn't be more conventional--talking heads, television footage, omniscient narrator, relentless score--but the personal approach makes it a valuable addition to the rapidly-growing list of 9/11 documentaries. The point is, to quote Patti Smith, "people have the power"--people like the Jersey Girls, Paul Thompson, and all the other ordinary citizens who have kept pressure on our elected officials and the news media to dig deeper and work harder. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
Description
The Coverup Exposed By The 9/11 Families
"They lied, they all lied." --Patty Casazza (one of the "Jersey Girls")
"We don't know the whole story, not at all" -- Lorie Van Auken (one of the "Jersey Girls")
"9/11 was the biggest 'don't ask-don't tell" --Sally Regenhard, lost Firefighter son.
"Press for Truth" is an astonishing portrayal of the lengths our public servants will go to protect themselves from any accountability. --Scott Horton, Antiwar.com
Although independent investigations began within weeks of both Pearl Harbor and the Kennedy assassination, the same was not true of the attacks of September 11th. Most are unaware that formation of the 9/11 Commission was strongly opposed by many in Washington, including the Bush administration. It was only due to pressure from the 9/11 families, led by a particular twelve calling themselves the Family Steering Committee, that, fourteen months after the attacks, the first hearing finally began. These twelve remained active in monitoring the Commission's investigation, providing a list of hundreds of specific, well-researched questions to the Commissioners. In the end, the 9/11 Commission Final Report failed to answer seventy percent of them.
In 9/11 PRESS FOR TRUTH, five of the most prominent members of the Family Steering Committee, including interviews with three of the "Jersey Girls," tell their story for the first time, providing the most powerful argument yet for why 9/11 still needs investigation. Adapting Paul Thompson's definitive Complete 9/11 Timeline (published by Harper-Collins as The Terror Timeline), the filmmakers stitch together rare, overlooked news clips, buried stories, and government press conferences, revealing a pattern of official lies, deception, and spin.

Essential Viewing...........2007-06-11
...for those that still believe dr evil on kidney dialysis pulled-off the theatrical events of 9/11 and craftily escaped through a labyrinth of underground caves. It's all for the "greater good" don't you know ! Outstanding introduction for the Complacency News Network crowd that still don't see that the Western government and mainstream newsmedia has become sick...very very sick. It would have taken roughly $1-2M to stage the events of that day - compare that to the windfall of BILLIONS that landed upon Halliburton, the oil and defence industries through privatization of Iraqi NATIONAL resources and this administrations lies and obstruction of justice all make perfect sense. 9/11 was PNAC and Karl Rove's rather convenient wet dream and people are stupid - has history taught us nothing? Free yourself from ignorance and view this dvd !
It only scratches the surface..........2007-06-06
This movie was interesting, but didn't nearly have the impact as 9/11 mysteries or loose change. It shows the struggles of the 4 Jersey women in search of answers and the horrible job news media did in covering the story. But, it only scratches the surface and doesn't provides answers.
This is a serious piece of work.......2007-05-24
I've watched a handfull of documentaries on 9-11 such as In Plane Site or Painful Deceptions, but this is the only one that made the hair on my arms stand up. I always thought that conspiracies were truths mixed with assumpitions, but I have changed my mind after watching this. Our Goverment may not have planned the attacks on 9-11, but it is becoming more clear that they opened the door to our skies and allowed it to happen. Corruption is stinking to high heaven and I'm sure when Richard Clark came out and admitted his guilt, President Bush made calls to some powerful friends to see if they could rub him out. To give you an example of some unsolved mysteries..they could not find most parts of the airplanes that crashed on Sept 11 because they said that the heat melted them, but can you believe they were able to find the passport of one of the highjackers?
The point in the movie where I was so frustrated that I laughed was when Bush chose to testify at the 9-11 Commission with Dick Cheney off camera. When asked why he needed Cheney, His answer was," The Commission wants to ask us questions and I look forward to meeting with them." The reporter asked why were they meeting together and not seperatly, His answer," Because it's a good chance for both of us to answer questions that the 9-11 Commission is uhhhh looking forward to asking us and I'm looking forward to answering them." My next question would be... Are you hiding something from us President?
Wake Up People.......2007-05-12
Criminals have infiltrated our government at the highest levels. The people who orchestrated the JFK assignation have gained and consolidated power. They control military and paramilitary forces capable of just about anything as long as the public is unaware.

This DVD is a good starting point in the search for the truth about what really happened on 9/11.A lot of the detail that is now out in the open is not mentioned, but the cover up is made obvious by the unanswered questions posed in this film.A film that takes the point of view of the families affected by crime commited by the US adminerstration.Terrorstorm - A History of Government Sponsored Terrorism

It's a good thing Sandra Bullock knows her strengths and weaknesses, because without Bullock as star and producer, Miss Congeniality would be an insufferable mess as opposed to being a mildly enjoyable trifle that is custom-made for Bullock's established screen persona. Only Bullock's fans could really appreciate this fluff (even then they'll wish its ripe premise had been more intelligently handled), but it's not without some highlights to accompany Bullock's reliable charms. Here she plays clumsy, nerdy FBI agent Gracie Hart, who is given the horrific pseudonym Gracie Lou Freebush (one example of the movie's juvenile tendencies) when assigned to infiltrate a beauty pageant to investigate threats of a terrorist attack.
Transforming Bullock from frumpy to stunning is a piece of cake (although she gives pageant coach Michael Caine a run for his money), so the movie's premise is trivial at best. More enjoyable is her character's uncouth disdain for pageant contestants and her mistaken perception that they're all a bunch of bimbos. The movie nicely charts Gracie's realization that her own pageant makeover provides a much-needed ego boost. In addition to Caine's effortless scene-stealing, pageant host William Shatner and organizer Candice Bergen are smart choices for comedic support (Shatner's a perfect Bert Parks wannabe), but the movie desperately needs a credible foundation for its comedy to really pay off. Bullock's bureau boss (Benjamin Bratt) is an unconvincing dimwit, and none of the plotting is as smart as say Beverly Hills Cop in combining procedure with laughs. That leaves Bullock to carry the burden of a comedy that just barely works in her favor. --Jeff Shannon
Description
Sandra Bullock stars as a bumbling female FBI agent assigned to go undercover as a participant in the Miss United States beauty pageant when it is discovered that one of the contestants is being targeted for murder. Benjamin Bratt leads the undercover team, while also playing the reluctant love interest. Candice Bergen and William Shatner manage the pageant and hire Michael Caine to turn Bullock from rough and tumble agent to stunning beauty queen. The physical transformation is impressive, although the klutzy personality remains. Everything seems to be fine once the killer is suddenly caught, but Bullock suspects there is more to this story, and the truth eventually unfolds with an unexpected twist. For her part, Bullock received a Golden Globe nomination for best actress, and heads the star-studded cast in the year's most hilarious comedy.

** From the lyrics to Tom Jones' hit song "She's a Lady" (played over the closing credits):
Well, she's all you'll ever want
She's the kind I'd like to flaunt
And take to deener.
Well she always knows her place
She's got style, she's got grace
She's a wiener!
I put off watching this movie for a long time, as I generally don't laugh at the comedies Hollywood produces these days. When I did finally watch, however, I had a wonderful hour and a half. It is an absurd situation - an FBI agent (Sandra Bullock) must transform herself from a tough tomboy to a beauty pageant contestant in just two days in order to thwart a unibomber-type domestic terrorist who has targeted the Miss United States pageant.
Bullock is charming, as is the entire supporting cast - including William Shatner who seems to be having fun in his Bert Parks-like pageant emcee role. Michael Caine glides lightly in his loafers as Bullock's handler and makeover artiste.
All in all, a very enjoyable way to spend an evening. Congratulations to everyone involved in making a light and fun piece of entertainment. "Miss Congeniality" is a real wiener!

Completing a trilogy that should be required viewing for all Americans, Unconstitutional explicitly reveals how the USA Patriot Act violates numerous civil liberties guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. Following the equally persuasive documentaries Unprecedented: The 2000 Presidential Election and Uncovered: The Whole Truth About the Iraq War, this film presents powerful and tragic examples of how the USA Patriot Act--passed with virtually no Congressional debate just 45 days after the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01--has been used to justify the unconstitutional arrest of innocent immigrants based on Arab stereotyping; the illegal detention of vaguely defined "suspects" and their improper treatment (including beatings and torture) during extended confinement; prisoner abuse of alleged terrorism suspects in Guantanamo Bay military prison; the allowance of improper search and seizure without due cause; prohibited travel based on racial profiling; bully tactics employed with impunity by local police in efforts to undermine free speech; and other clear indications of the Patriot Act's unconstitutional enforcement. The more personal these stories of violation are, the more gut-wrenching is the realization that U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft--and by extension, the George W. Bush administration--have used the Patriot Act to justify what is essentially a dictatorial police state.
Sponsored by the American Civil Liberties Union and full of bipartisan testimony by lawyers, politicians, and victims of Patriot Act abuse, Unconstitutional makes an eloquent case for the careful interpretation of Constitutional law, exploring rising opposition to Patriot Act abuses while exposing how many of our freedoms have been undermined in the name of post-9/11 security. Regardless of your political affiliation, this is a chilling reminder of how seemingly good intentions can corrupt even our most cherished American values. --Jeff Shannon
Description
Unconstitutional: The War on Our Civil Liberties is the new, hour-long documentary from Robert Greenwald - one of the most prolific and progressive producers in Hollywood - in conjunction with the ACLU. This new film, written, directed and produced by Nonny de la Peña, details the shocking way that the civil liberties of American citizens and immigrants alike have been infringed upon, curtailed and rolled back since 9/11 and the USA Patriot Act.
Autumn of 2001 brought us assaults against Americans' comfort zone on many fronts. We learned that we could fall victim to attacks on US soil, and we learned that those guarantees provided to us in the Constitution were equally vulnerable.
Unconstitutional is the third in a series of Public Interest Pictures films that follows Unprecedented: The 2000 Election and Uncovered: The Whole Truth About the Iraq War. True to their legacy, Unconstitutional provides the facts and stories that illuminate administration lies, wrongheaded policies and the real victims of these actions - the American people.
Here, you'll get the real story behind the USA PATRIOT Act and other administration policies and the gut wrenching stories behind those affected - from law abiding sales clerks to United States Olympians unable to travel. It'll remind you of what America used to stand for and what it seems we're falling for now. In short, this film will affirm why you're angry and give you a tool to help others join your ranks.

It's the end of the innocence.......2007-05-11
As with all documentaries I've seen by Robert Greenwald, he enlists experts to give credible testimony to support the information in his programs. In `Unconstitutional' you are able to hear from experts on legal analysis and constitutional law along with counter-terrorism specialists to confirm the disturbing information about our disappearing rights and civil liberties.
Just over a month after the cowardly attacks of September 11, 2001, American citizens were presented with the `Patriot Act' which was, in essence, protections for citizens against terrorism and tools for the war on terror. If it was such a good plan, why did the Bush administration present it to Congress and tell them not to hold hearings on its contents which would then avoid any public input whatsoever? To add insult to injury, this legislative bill was presented to Congress before anyone had a chance to review its contents but it still passed with overwhelming support. It even contained provisions that Congress previously rejected before 9-11 ever happened. Using the cover of terrorism, the `Patriot Act' largely and inappropriately expanded the power of federal law enforcement which may haunt us for many years to come.
Not long after 9-11 occurred, federal law enforcement began to indiscriminately arrest and detain immigrants from Arab and Muslim countries. This sinister trend began to look suspiciously like ethnic or religious profiling not to mention targeting someone because of stereotypes. Those that were victims of the system were subjected to solitary confinement, inhumane treatment, no contact with the outside world whatsoever, and no due process of the legal system. The phrase `guilty until proven innocent' immediately springs to mind and it fits the equation. The Justice Department even coined a term for this nefarious activity. It was the `hold until clear' policy.
A solution was even found to incarcerate those detained (in the interests of the war on terror) outside of the United States. It was in the form of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. This opens up a completely new level of questionable legalities due to the known information. First, those confined in this facility are not subject to legal restrictions. Secondly, everyone here is not subject to constitutional protections because they are not being held in a United States territory. Lastly, no one is subject to the Geneva Convention because they are not combatants and therefore are not considered prisoners of war. As the war on terror continues, it becomes readily apparent that the government makes the rules as they go to fit their agenda.
When it comes to your expectation of privacy as a citizen, well, that is right out the window. Without probable cause, federal law enforcement agencies can check your employment, medical, and bank records without your approval. Oh, your email traffic and internet browsing history isn't confidential either. And if that's not enough, the `Patriot Act' also allows for secret search warrants of your home and wiretaps of your phones, again without your permission. Big Brother is not only watching you now, it is smothering you and taking away the protections that the Constitution has promised you for over 200 years.
`Unconstitutional' is a very good documentary, in my opinion, and it relates a very serious message that every American citizen absolutely needs to hear. It can also be interpreted as a warning of sorts of what is to come in the future if no attempts are made to change these dangerous policies. A government for the people, by the people, and of the people should be just that and not an all-powerful administration teetering on the edge of totalitarian control. I highly recommend this documentary to everyone and I commend the producer for his courageous work.
Wonderful job documenting frightening loss of our rights.......2007-04-28
Greenwald does it again. He's produced a well-crafted film showing clearly some of the substantial losses and further threats to our civil liberties by the fiercely anti-democratic Bush administration. You see a wide range of folks who've been personally oppressed by the strong-arm, unconstitutional tactics allowed and encouraged by the Bush administration all in the name of fighting terrorism, but not having much effect on terrorism at all.
For those who can't understand how Germany became as it did before and during WWII, watch this film for how insidious the process of losing civil rights in a democracy can be. Obviously the US today is NOT as bad as Nazi Germany, but there are disturbing parallels. You see how perfectly law-abiding citizens have their civil rights increasingly denied or whittled down and how this threatens the very fabric of our fantastic democracy.
I dare anyone to see this film and not come away concerned for the future of our republic if we do not change course soon.
good veiw.......2007-01-11
Well what can i say if you like seeing your rights vanish then see this dvd you know whos hitting you from in front and behind ....lol.
Unconstitutional - The War On Our Civil Liberties .......2006-08-25
Good movie. A must watch for anti-Bush crowd. Sad direction we're headed with this guy in the lead.
Unremarkable.......2006-06-28
Unconstitutional is a movie about an extremely important topic. It's even more topical now in 2006 than when it was produced in 2004 (with some interviews done earlier than that). Unfortunately I found it overall a less powerful message than Greenwald's previous films, Unprecedented, Uncovered, etc. I think it's unlikely to win over those who support the Bush Administration's actions on its own, but it will provide some valuable tidbits of information for those who are already concerned about the loss of our civil rights.
The main problem with the movie (to me) was that the first half of it illustrates its point with examples of a lot of people toward whom Americans who support the administration's "war on terror" simply are not going to feel very sympathetic: Moslem immigrants from the Middle East, Jose Padilla, etc. It's only the second half of the movie that starts to address how this threatens the liberties of everyday, homegrown, law-abiding American citizens. Of course the revelations of what this administration has done have only increased in scope since the movie was produced. This is a movie worth watching--but don't expect to be on the edge of your seat.

Description
With the increasing controversy surrounding the federal probe into the September 11 terrorist attacks, GNN decided to pre-empt the government and produce its own version of a `truth commission' with AFTERMATH: Unanswered Question from 9/11.
What did the Bush administration know and when? Should airlines have been more prepared for 9/11? What ties did the US government have, if any, with the terrorists?
AfterMath delves into the troubling span of issues that have arisen since the attacks on 9/11, including:
- the negligence of military officials in reacting to the hijackings, - proven links between the hijackers, Pakistani intelligence (ISI) and the CIA - the role of oil in the Eurasian conflict, - the impact of post-911 legislation on American civil liberties.
The film poses questions that continue to overshadow and critically challenge the administration's official version of the story, and is a must see for those who continue to question the terrible and as yet unexplained events of that day.
Extras Over 90 minutes bonus footage Extended interview clips Live panel discussion featuring George Soros, Mike Ruppert, Nafeez Ahmed and more!
Narration and original score by hip-hop legend Paris.

This is interesting, but the most convincing 9/11 conspiracy documentary was 9/11 mysteries.
Aftermath: Unanswered Questions from 9/11.......2007-02-06
First I want to say that the shipping and service was first rate. This movie was OK, but it was not the movie I thought I was ordering. That is no fault of the seller. There is another that is more informative that I still have not located. This one is good as a warm-up to one I saw at a friends home. This movie is thought provoking, but it is a toned down version of the other whose title I am not sure of.
UNanswered Questions answers a few of mine.......2007-01-19
It was pretty good. What was there was pretty truthfull, there just wasn't anything really knew for me.
Another Good Film .......2006-10-25
The Hunt for Truth in matters that have been distorted is not a hard thing to do. Just take your head out of the sand and look. Truth stands out clear from error! There are a number of films out that are telling the "real deal" of 911 and aftermath. My prayer this Ramadan is that everyone wakes up! Stop believing everything that is on the nightly news for Gods Sake. This goes for my emotional brick throwing brother and sisters in Iraq as well. Helloooo we are all being used.
Limited But Relevant.......2006-10-06
9/11 Press for Truth is better, but this DVD is very worthwhile. It opens with George Soros being concerned about the dangerous foreign policies and actions of the Bush Administration, and then moves directly into asking 9 people 11 questions (generally one person per question). Here are the questions in abridged form:
1) Should airlines have been prepared?
2) What did Bush Administration know, and when?
3) Why wasn't the US military prepared or able to respond?
4) How did Administration respond to military failure?
5) Any ties between US Intelligence and the terrorists?
6) Were there plans for a war in Central Asia before the Bush election?
7) Is there an underlying motive for putting US military into Central Asia?
8) Is there historical evidence that US Government is willing to kill its own citizens and blow up its own ships and buildings as a pretext for war?
9) How has the US Government reaction to 9-11 impacted on civil liberties?
10) How has present legislation affected lives of American people?
The movie concludes with some very reasonable thoughts:
1) Across America people are oblivious to what is being done in their name by the US Government and the US military.
2) The War on Terror is a pretext for imperial expansion into oil-rich areas.
3) Criminalization of the state occurs when the state gets to decide who is a criminal without the consent of the people, the courts, or the Congress.
4) Congress rolled over and gave both airlines and US Government a free get out of jail pass the day after 9-11.
5) We *need* the voices of dissent now more than ever, to uphold the Constitution and the Rule of Law.
6) The Patriot Act must be repealed.
7) Need to rebuild on the basis of individuality and honor, not corporations and corruption.
8) We're in a war for the future of humanity.
The general tone is a bit too left-wing for my taste, but in no way does this undermine the reasoned sanity of the questions and the answers. Definitely worth buying, viewing, and sharing.

Accurate, Detailed & Comprehensive 9/11 Report Before, During & After Event.......2006-12-10
This is the most footage you're going to get before, during & after 9/11.
There is enough information in this journalistic video to realize there are people raising their children to believe it is divine to kill themselves in order to destroy America.
Terrorists attacked the World Trade Center in 1993 and 2001. Eight years. It's only been five years since 9/11 ... are we prepared for another attack?
Katrina should be another big lesson-learned that America doesn't have the infrastructure to help everyone in a disaster. Terrorists know this, now.
What can you do to prepare and protect yourself & your family, today?
Watch this video with your family and friends. Talk about it. Ask questions of one another. Take action for readiness. Stay motivated!
wake me up when 9/11/01 ends.......2006-11-08
I love the cnn tells us about september 11 2001 and I felt sad when the world trade center fell but my brother told me they are going to rebuild the towers
Touching, But Thats All.......2006-08-07
To start of this is probably of the better 9-11 tribute DVD's. But, if that is all true, we need better ones. The first 45 minuites are very well done and deserves applause for it's stories and good information. But the rest is all just about are reaction to 9-11. This DVD is great, but if you wanted more information on the events of 9-11 you will fell hungry.
Let The Media Blind You From The Truth.......2006-05-25
I am on a mission. I am out to find un doctored video of what happen that day. In this edition of America Remembers is media hog wash. All of the impacts of the planes have been removed so that the victims and the american people are blinded by what really hit those towers.
Although they show 1 to 2 impacts of planes, this stripped down version of the real events hides the truth.
In this dvd no reports of the hundreds of eye witness accounts that reveal many explosions going on at the twin towers before and after the "planes" hit.
There is so much left out of the dvd that i decided to compare it to the first dvd.
The differences clearly show that a lot more needed to be edited before the public figures out, what really happened that day.
This dvd is a one sided slap in the face to victims and Americans in general.
Everyone that reads this should call or write cnn and tell them we want the original dvd. Not this government version of events of mass murder.
"how do we explain this to our kids".......2006-05-04
like many people i know where and what i was doing when the events of 9/11/2001 took place!never before has such an event happened to us and i hope it never does again! now we are left to tell and teach our sons and daughters about this day and what it did to change the world. this documentary is a fine example of what t.v. news can do when it wants,a far balanced record of the worst attack ever done on american soil.when i talk to my boys about this day i will use this dvd to help them understand how big this day really was.
the best thing about this is the times you can see the reporters choke up or just cry, nice to know that even they aren't that jaded. belongs in every collection.

Movie highlights the broad themes of Cornwell's book, if missing the details.......2007-02-15
"Sharpe's Eagle" is the second in the British TV adaptations of Bernard Cornwell's colossal Richard Sharpe series of novels. It is a more polished episode than the kick-off film, "Sharpe's Rifles," but only slightly more so. This was essentially an extended TV series, and one with a fraction of the budget of an American blockbuster such as "Lost," much less a major miniseries like "Band of Brothers."
So if you want to be a snob, there is plenty to snicker at in "Sharpe's Eagle." Sharpe spins a terrifying tale of the might of Napoleon's infantry column to some green troops, and yet in the actual battle the French only appear to muster about fifty guys. Wounds are indicated by bloody clothes rather than realistic special effects, and cannons clearly fire blanks.
But if you're the kind of person who looks past low budgets and so-so special effects and instead focus on character and story, then "Sharpe's Eagle" has a lot for you to enjoy. Sharpe, ambitious gutter trash that he is, continues to allow himself to be used by the cynical Major Hogan (Brian Cox) to rise in the esteem of General Wellesley (soon to be Lord Wellington). Along the way, Sharpe runs afoul of that nasty breed of British Army officer - the kind who rose to command through birth rather than merit. Times being what they were, Sharpe was instantly hated by these men as a threat to their established order, and they play for keeps. Indeed, in this movie Sharpe is in more danger from his own side than from the French - look for a very young Daniel Craig as a sinister junior British officer who wants to see Sharpe dead.
Through the bumbling of the leader of the South Essex, a battalion Sharpe's beloved 95th Rifles are attached to, the French steal the battalion's battle flag. This is an unforgiveable sin, the kind that a commanding officer should eat a bullet over. Sharpe's commmander, however, chooses to blame Sharpe. That's one problem. The other is that a good old soldier who knew Sharpe from their days fighting in India was killed defending the lost flag, and with his dying command he makes Sharpe promise to exact revenge against the French by stealing a gold Eagle standard - the Eagle of the title. Only by stealing this battle standard can Sharpe restore the honor of the South Essex.
Look for strong performances again from both Sean Bean and Brian Cox as Sharpe and Hogan, and for solid supporting performances from virtually everyone else. There is also a good deal of soldier's humor in "Sharpe's Eagle," and overall it must be said that this is a nicely balanced film. Check it out, but only after watching "Sharpe's Rifles" and preferably after reading the book.
My Favorite TV Series.......2005-02-18
I own the entire Sharpe series on VHS but this is the only episode I have on DVD, and it is one of the best. (Incidentally, I don't understand all the complaining about the quality of the DVD and the lack of grandiose battle scenes--I have no complaints with either the quality of the DVD or the fact that the battles are on a relatively small scale. As to the last, this was a TV series, after all, and the point, as I see it , is the study of the central character, Sharpe.)This is a beautifully done series, with Sean Bean absolutely sterling as Richard Sharpe. I have thought for some time that Sean Bean is underutilized in most of his films and wish that he had more opportunities like Sharpe, whose character as a low-born man who found the army the only place he could go and who proved himself a better man and soldier than most of his high-born peers, is a role any actor would relish. In this particular episode all the elements that make the whole series good come together particularly well as Sharpe has to defend himself from lesser officers out to get him while asttempting to right a number of wrongs, including ill treatment of women and sacrifice of a heroic officer by the cretin who leads the South Essex. He captures the essence of the character perfectly--a "man among men", a rough soldier with a strong sense of honor, a willingness to "stand and fight" and, as Major Hogan tells him, a romantic soul. What could be more captivating? Not much, judging by Sharpe's almost unconscious success with the ladies. The entire cast is excellent, pasrticularly Darrah O'Malley as Sgt. Harper, Sharpe's tough and loyal subordinate, and Brian Cox as the aforementioned Maj. Hogan. I regret that Cox didn't remain with the series because he added a wonderful element of cynical humor, but the series still has a strong humorous element throughout and that is one of its many virtues. In sum, whether it is the depiction of the behind-the-scenes conniving or the blood and gore of the battles or the easy comraderie of the up-from-the-gutter riflemen led by Sharpe (the "Chosen Men"), you will find it hard to tear youself away from this terrific series.
True, this is character over spectacle, but characters count.......2004-08-11
Granted, the budget on these television movies is such that the spectacle of battles during the Napoleonic War are reduced to dozens of soldiers on each side rather than massed formations of thousands of troops. But if these adaptations of Bernard Cornwell's novels were given the big screen treatment so that the battles sequences met our expectations we would certainly not be in double-figures with regards to the number of movies made to date. Consequently, "Sharpe's Eagle," the second in the series (but the first novel), sacrifices spectacle to focus on characters, which is fine because that is what this series is about.
For his second mission Lt. Richard Sharpe (Sean Bean), is sent with his Rifles to join the South Essex. The battalion is run by the incompetent Sir Henry Simmerson (Michael Cochrane), who, along with most of his officers, turn their collective noses up at Sharpe having risen up through the ranks. There are a couple of notable exceptions, one is Major Lennox (David Ashton), an officer Sharpe remembers for his distinguished service in India and Captain (Gavin O'Herlihy), who hails from Virginia, who play pivotal roles in what is to happen. The problem is that Sharpe has to fight his war on two fronts, not only worried about the French in front but also the other officers, who are looking for a chance to stab him in the back (literally).
Another key part of this story has to do with how the South Essex have never been in battle and there are a couple of nice sequences with Sharpe and his Rifles prepare the troops for their baptism under fire. Unfortunately, the incompetence of their leaders results in a disaster during what should have been a simple mission to destroy a bridge when the South Essex lose their colours, which is not a bad thing of monumental proportions. The need to regain their honor and the unspoken promise Sharpe makes to a dying man to capture one of the Imperial Eagles, touched by Napoleon himself, that sit atop the French standards set up the final part of the story.
The climax of "Sharpe's Eagle" is the Battle of Talavera, one of the bloodiest of the war and the one for which Sir Arthur Wellesley (David Troughton) becomes Lord Wellington. Of course the cowards run to live another day and brave young soldiers die, but such is war. As many have indicated, all we get is a sketch of the battle, which suffers in comparison to the historical details Cromwell provides in the book. But the best moments in this movie are those of character, such as when Sharpe proves repeatedly he has more of a sense of honor than the strutting peacocks who call themselves gentlemen and when Major Hogan (Brain Cox) gives an officer some idea of why challenging Sharpe to a duel would be suicide. Throughout the movie Hogan gets all of the good lines, while most of Sharpe's best moments involve intense looks at the objects of his displeasure.
"Sharpe's Eagle" also makes excellent use of a song sung by the British soldiers throughout the episode, especially by one young tenor. There is a sense in which these movies are more about the men serving in the British army during the Napoleonic Wars than about the officers, which is as it should be. The relationship between our hero and both Patrick Harper (Daragh O'Malley) and Teresa (Assumpta Serna) continue to evolve as do the plots to get rid of Sharpe. Clearly there are elements here to be continued, but that is the primary attraction. There are well over a dozen of these Sharpe movies and we can watch these early ones knowing that there is a long haul to enjoy.
Disappointing to fans of the books.......2004-07-15
I am a big fan of Bernard Cornwell's series of Sharpe books. While I enjoy these DVDs, they do not measure up to the books. The most disappointing part of these DVDs are the battle scenes. Cornwell's books are centered on the battles. The battle's in these DVDs are small, low budget affairs with about 100 soldiers on each side, not the grand spectacle that is demanded.
Great Adaptation of the Book.......2004-06-05
I found the movie captured the imagination, feel, and spirit of the book. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
