See along with The Accused.......2003-03-03
I own this movie and am never disappointed by repeated viewings. It is is not, however, a film for everyone. It is stark and ugly in the vein of The Accused in its depiction of a twist on a rape trial. There is very poor character development here, but of course how much can you manage in 2 hours? There was much attention paid to the development of one of the rapist (the actress's name escapes my memory but she also appears in the fabulous "The Intern"), but the other rapist is left as just a nasty bully motivated by, um, nastiness? I love the performance of the main character and her reaction to the rape. However, there are flashbacks that elude to a past that is horrifying but none of that is fully developed and thus only distracts from the true plot line.... same for her relationship with the vaguely introduced best friend/potential lover/mainstream drop out??? Who is this guy anyway??? Again there is a lot of extraneous material here, but the basic story will draw you in and is highly entertaining.
I like this movie despite how my review might read. I think the concept is good if not well developed and there are a couple great performances (the main character and the defense lawyer and investigator, along with the bar owner). I may have an attration to this film because of the fact I am a lawyer and the interesting twist the way the local law is written affects the plot, but I think a layman can appreciate this fact as much as I can. I sincerely hope this is *not* based on a true story and if it is,I hope the laws have been re-written to clearly reflect the dilemna faced by both the detective and the victim here (Note: the detective is Tony Soprano's sister in a bit over the top, but nonetheless effective role).
It is well worth a watch if nothing else, but if you are a fan of indie character films as I am, this is one for your collection.
this movie is not a sex romp.......2003-02-18
to tell you the truth, i mean thats what i expected to, i mean just look at the girls on the cover(though i want to make one thing clear, the 2 on the cover are models used for a cover, they are not the actors in the movie, the girls in the movie are on the back in the black and green tinted picture of them all dancing, though the large photo on the cover is carla gugino "meg"), "BUT" there is also blood on the cover, is there not. Its about a girl named Meg. A strait girl. Shes had a rough night and wants to go to the bar for drinks with her friend. She ends up going stag and meets up with 2 girls named pat and alex at "jacks" a local bar. jack introduces pat and alex to meg and they buy her a drink. What she believes to be a fun night with the girls is actually a meditated sadistic rape being planned out. They go to the beach together to skinny dip and they sense she may be bi curious and decide to use that against her and they cut her up, rape her and leave her for dead. for the most part this movie is prep for their trial. See a while back women couldnt be tried for rape in the first degree. it didnt exist in legal terms, only sodomy in the first. it follows her throuought the process of trying to get justice.
its a great movie. i wouldnt be rating it if i didnt think so.
Not what the box says it is.......2002-11-05
I had this movie given to me, and have to admit, I am glad that I did not pay money for it.
The back of the box makes it seem like some kind of sex triangle, with 2 women trying to seduce her. But the reality in this movie is far from that.
In reality, the main subject is the victim of a vicious and sadistic rape by the two other characters. There was absolutely nothing in this that I found interesting at all.
Even movies like Silence Of The Lambs and Wild Things (which the box tries to compare this movie to) were riveting, because of the unexpected turns and suspense.
But Jaded has none of this. It concentrates on the rapeists and the sick relationship with the boyfriend of one of them. And the persuit of a videotape that may prove the victims story is true.
While it does show that same sex rape is possible, it is not a movie worth watching.
If at all possible, pass this movie up at all costs.
The Aftermath of Rape.......2002-05-10
A strange movie about a particularly horrific rape, JADED unnecessarily plays up the male-oriented eroticism associated to rape and voyeurism as the woman's victimization is show progressively over a series of disjointed flashbacks. Interestingly enough, the rapist(s) and victim are both female, also feeding into another series of male fantasies. The conclusion is rather forced and, sadly, unclear ... leaving the viewer wondering about the true consequences against those who perpetrated the deed. Certain scenes, particularly of the rape sequence, are not for the light-hearted.
Unwatchable.......2001-09-30
Apparently, things like pacing, character development, suspense, and logic are no longer required.

Description
PLOT DESCRIPTION A Russian immigrant in arrives in the Unites States to discover that the American Dream has dampened somewhat in writer-turned-director Len Richmond's satirical look at America's preoccupation with all things sexual. Despite enthusiastic Alex (Michael York)'s best efforts, the only job he can find upon arriving in the United States is a low-paying stint in a sex-toy factory. When elderly factory owner Eppy (Nancy Fish) takes pity on the struggling newcomer and introduces him to has-been adult film star Catherine (Prunella Gee) in hopes of making a match, the romantic bachelor finds that true love doesn't always arrive in the most conventional form. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
Customer Reviews:
It's very funny!.......2005-09-14
Seeing Michael York holding a giant dildoe (and I mean giant) on his first day's work at a sex toy factory had me laughing till my sides hurt. This is an edgy independent movie that really takes chances. It's the first and only film I've seen that took me into the sex toy industry (realistically) and showed the daily lives of the Russian and Hispanic immigrants that work there (York plays a Russian). Beverly D' Angelo is classic as a porno actress who weilds a whip but has a lisp! I've loaned it to my friends and they all thought it was hysterical. A very entertaining film. I love Erasure and they wrote the original musical score.

The fourth film in François Truffaut's quasi-autobiographical Antoine Doinel cycle finds the idealistic child-man (played by Truffaut's alter ego and French new wave icon Jean-Pierre Léaud) married to his sweetheart Christine (Claude Jade) and still plugging away at odd jobs. When his experiments in the florist trade burn his bouquets to a smoky black ruin, he decides that it's time for another trade, and lands a job sending radio-controlled toy boats around a miniature harbor mock-up. It's about that time that he learns of his impending fatherhood, but he throws a monkey wrench into his new happiness when he becomes obsessed with a beautiful young Japanese woman (Hiroku Berghauer). Truffaut enlivens Doinel's courtyard apartment with the bustle and business of neighbors, creating a warm sense of community reminiscent of the works of Jean Renoir. He also pays homage to comic auteur Jacques Tati in meticulously constructed comic bits and a hilarious cameo by Tati's famous character, M. Hulot. However, he tempers the giddy screwball kookiness that characterized the previous film in the cycle, Stolen Kisses, with a less forgiving disposition toward Antoine's passionate irresponsibility and emotional impulsiveness. In one of Truffaut's finest moments ever, he plays out a conversation between the separated but still in love couple with a hard-earned sense of reflective maturity: "I love you," she confesses, "but I don't want to see you." It's a comedy with serious edges as Truffaut decides it's time for Antoine to grow up. --Sean Axmaker
Customer Reviews:
Bed and Board.......2007-07-03
The fourth installment of Truffaut's Antoine Doinel cycle, which began with "The 400 Blows" (featuring Léaud as a child), this bittersweet romantic comedy is full of smartly observed details that will ring true to anyone who's ever cohabited with a cherished mate. Léaud is charming as always, and Jade's a dreamy vision. Hiroko Berghauer also enchants as the object of Doinel's potentially housebreaking infatuation. Watch for famed French comic-director Jacques Tati in a brilliant cameo as M. Hulot. A simple, artful take on the growing pains felt in love and marriage.
Love on the Rocks.......2004-08-18
Francois Truffaut is one of my favorite directors. His films all have likeable characters and lighthearted material that one can simply smile while watching an entire film.
The "Antonie Doinel" series has given us some great films. My favorite would be "400 Blows" followed by "Love on the Run" and "Stolen Kisses" but for some reason "Bed & Board" just didn't live up to my expectations.
I had to search a long time to find this film, because I didn't want to buy it first without seeing it, as I waited my expectations grew higher and higher.
"Bed & Board" has Jean-Pierre Leaud and Claude Jade married and expecting a child. Life seems perfect. They are one of those extremely happy young couples, you know, the kind you hate to see in public. We suspect they are deeply in love. He even likes her parents!
But soon after their baby is born domestic problems ensue for the Doinel household. Antonie has started an affair with someone he met from work, Kyoko (Hiroko Berghauer).
There was something about the way this situation was presented that bothered me. First of all, we don't really know why he did it. If you want to shrug it off as "one of those young dumb mistakes" why doesn't the movie push that idea more?
The movie doesn't explore the situation to its fullest and show more hardships faced in young love. The movie goes easy on Doinel and doesn't make Jade seem real. She seems all to understanding.
"Bed & Board" is enjoyable, especially if you are already a Truffaut fan, but I don't think these characters here are as enjoyable to watch as the ones in 'Love on the Run" or "Stolen Kisses". Their is a lightness that is missing. A certain charm.
Leaud and Jade are perfect in the beginning of the film. They play their character correctly and do bring out that sweetness so it's disappointing when their characters begin to lose some of that likeability because the script written by Truffaut, Claude de Givray, and Bernard Revon seem to lose focus with these people.
Watch "Bed & Board" if you've seen the other Doinel films and honestly tell me those other films were not satisfying. Fans will enjoy the movie, as do I, but on a small scale because I know Truffaut has done better.
Bottom-line: Not one of the best films in the "Antonie Doniel" series, but than again it's hard to top films like "400 Blows" and "Love on the Run" still worthwhile for Truffaut fans.
Simply Love This Film!.......2003-04-16
I simply love this film! Everything in this film (music, dialogues, lighting, angles, actors/actresses, costumes, locations)fits perfectly. Claude Jade is beautiful in the film. By coincident, I saw this film right after a long trip from France. Made me relive my whole French experience all over again.
Claude Jade is brilliant in this bitter Doinel-Adventure........1999-06-28
It's one of the best movies, I'll ever seen. The couple of "Stolen Kisses", Jean-Pierre Léaud and Claude Jade, is brilliant. You want to the how a director MUST work with actors? See this bitter comedy about the marriage.

Looking to stay busy and useful in her latter days, Grace McQueen (Jessica Tandy) discovers the wonders of cable-access TV and starts her own show, reading stories for kids whose parents are too busy to pay them enough attention. A rising TV exec and single mom (Stephanie Zimbalist) realizes "the Story Lady" could advance her career--and maybe help her connect with her own daughter. This film has a lot in common with Miracle on 34th Street--both revolve around Christmas and both explore that uneasy middle ground in which children's dreams collide with modern commerce. Like the original 1947 Miracle, The Story Lady tells its story with heartfelt sincerity, while avoiding the mawkishness that marred the '94 remake of Miracle. Tandy brings a bit of spice to her role as "ideal grandma," and she's surrounded by a cast full of top pros, including Charles Durning in an unbilled cameo. Production design and directing clearly mark this as a made-for-TV movie, and you can see the plot points coming, but there's something very charming and true about it. Trivia factoid: That's Jessica Tandy's real-life daughter, Tandy Cronyn, playing her daughter in the film. --Geof Miller
Description
You're never too old to enjoy a good story. Jessica Tandy stars as Grace McQueen, a retired woman who begins a new chapter in her life by bringing the world's greatest children's stories into the homes of New York via her public access show. When a television network comes to call, Grace must choose between becoming a commercialized creation or being herself.

Story Lady.......2007-01-13
My mother who loves this movie, she has looking for years. So one day I popped in my favorite place, Amazon and whala there it was. Thank you This has made her happy and it made me feel worthy.
A Christmas movie you can watch anytime of the year.......2004-09-27
I am more used to movies starring the husband and wife team of Jessica Tandy and Hume Cronyn. However, Tandy sparkles in this delightful tale of a "senior citizen" who didn't quit. When advanced age caused her to move in with her grown daughter and son-in-law, she found she had too much time on her hands, and went looking for work. After being turned down again and again, she stumbled upon a channel on the TV that interested her. After being told anybody, through cable-access TV, could have their own show, she went for it, and a world of children with busy parents found themselves seated in front of their sets while Grace read stories out of a book. The TV studio producer, enchanted by her, came up with a title for her show -- The Story Lady. One young lady who got hooked on it introduced it to her mother, a TV ad exec (played by Stephanie Zimbelist), and that's where the story takes off. She and her partner, played by Ed Begley, Jr., convince Grace to sign a contract, and try to take control of her. But Grace, and we viewers, find out in the end she proves more than a match for them. A final escapade lands Grace in trouble with the law, but again her indomitable spirit wins out, and she ends up teaching the judge (played by Charles Durning) how to portray himself as Toad of Toad Hall to his daughter. Funny, warm, fast-paced, sentimental, and very delightful.
heartwarming movie!.......2003-12-15
This is a must-view every Christmas! Jessica Tandy is superb as usual and reminds us of what is truly important in life.
This movie is true classic........2002-10-09
Jessica Tandy does a beautiful job portraying Grace, a kind old lady that finds happiness by sharing her gift of story telling.
This is a perfect film for the entire family.
A wonderful movie!.......2002-04-12
This movie is an artful combination of humor, moral instruction, and a reminder of what is really important in life. It is beautifully written and the acting is fantastic.
