Beautiful and believable.......2007-06-17

This is the first of the Comstock movies I've seen, but it absolutely won't be the last. This really is something different - "documentary" erotica, about a real couple not so different from anyone else.

The first half of the movie features the two talking to a silent, unseen interviewer. They describe their relationship, from the time they met, to their wedding (surprisingly like my own), through years of a complex and full home life. Throughout, they describe the career of their physical relationship at each period. It comes across as happy and a bit ordinary - I like that, it creates a kind of comfort with the couple that I don't have good words for, and teases me into caring about them.

The interview is broken into segments of a few minutes each, interleaved with moments from their bedroom love-making. That seems natural, too, the kinds of activities and positions I've enjoyed rather than bizarre contortions to create some camera angle. The interview ends about halfway through the movie. At that point, the bedroom scene restarts, then plays beyond what we saw in the first half. Because the interview made the two seem more real, my own arousal comes from theirs as if they're sharing it with me - not vicarious or voyeuristic, but friendly.

If you've been put off by adult films in the past, you probably had good reason: negative tone, forced activities and pacing, and people that look like plastic and sound worse. There's none of that here. It's warm, private, and above all happy - and isn't that what a love life should be?

Matt and Khym are a beautifully sexy, real life couple and I was completely charmed as I listened to them tell their story in the documentary style interview that opens this wonderful film and totally captivated to witness their lovemaking in the erotic scene that followed.

They seem to enjoy themselves in front of the camera in a way that welcomes us as viewers into their intimate life and into their bedroom with a disarming frankness that's become a trademark of Tony Comstock's films. As a result, this lovely film has been welcomed into my own bedroom on a number of occasions!

Not only do Matt and Khym shine and bubble over with a tender enthusiam for each other that seems to make them literally sparkle, but the film itself has the most beautiful lustre. It has a look that lends weight to the idea that love, sex, pleasure and intimacy are indeed important and special and wonderful. With his distinctive style, Tony Comstock has once again cleverly combined visual beauty, sexual heat, genuine chemistry, sympathetic characters and compelling real life stories into an erotic, well crafted film that I'm delighted to recommend.

Matt and Khym: Better Than Ever, just like all the other sexy Comstock Films I've enjoyed, was a real pleasure to watch alone and a great joy to share with a lover. It's sex filmed with grace, style and skill, with respect for the lovers and for the viewer.

I was so moved and delighted by this DVD that I emailed Tony Comstock to tell him that as soon as I got done watching it. For those who have misgivings about the content or quality of mainstream porn, this offering from Comstock may be just what you're looking for in that it is genuine, heartfelt, and sexy. For those like me who do delve a fair amount into mainstream porn, I recommend Matt and Khym as a magnificent and refreshing testament to how hot the depiction of genuine sex in the context of obvious true love can be. Very highly recommended.

One of the worst films ever. Absurd. The whole story.
In adition, tring to be an "important, deeply movie". Just pathetic. Don't even try to rent it, don't even try to talk about it. The sex scenes are awful too. Nothing to save, nothing to see, nothing...really, a full horrible experience.

as the director and actors of this mess should, on their skinny french knees. Complete waste of film and your time. Not erotic, sexy (? was that actress really a woman?, was her boyfriend really a man? or visa/versa) Damned if I could tell. And that old man who tired her up, ya think he had enough rope? The movie was as clinicial as the gyno exam she went through. French people are not pretty, and this woman was not only NOT pretty, but she drifted through the entire movie in a coma. Even when she got screwed she looked like she was in a fog. Save you money and your eyeballs and buy some french fries and eat them on your porch for the same experience.

The other side of Love.......2007-01-12

This is a pretty amazing movie, that does get graphic in nature and crosses the line in parts of what is art and what is not. Very good story in which Caroline Ducey goes out looking for love when her boyfriend, Sagamore Stevenin refuses to pay any attention to her. Caroline's character finds love in many different forms, men and means. From picking up a lover at a bar (Rocco Siffredi), to finding an older man into S&M, to having a quickie on a set of stairs by a total stranger (which I think is the best segment). A great film from Catherine Breillat. Also check out her 2003 masterpiece, 'Anatomy of Hell', which also stars Rocco Siffredi.

Buyer Beware - Not What's Advertised.......2007-01-04

Don't know why my first note hasn't appeared, so I'll briefly restate. the claim-to-fame of this film is it's avant-garde, push-the-envelope sexuality. Amazon describes this film as "Unrated", but that's not what nearly all of these listings are selling. These are the new "R" Rated version that is MASSIVELY redacted. In fact, all of what makes this film famous has been reduced to some brief nudity. Even though the box continues to bill it as "The sexiest movie ever made." On top of that, despite an English only cover, my VHS purchase was subtitled in SPANISH. The seller has offered an adjustment. He didn't know. But Amazon needs to drop the 'Unrated' description, as that implies the original. Those still interested might look for something like a 'director's cut'. I still haven't found one. Sorry if this is a duplicate of previous post.

I like this movie for it's authenticity in the portrayal of relationships with regards to married people and the opposing choices people made when thrust into a convenient affair. The male lead having chosen to walk out of a seemingly wonderful marriage because he just could not take it anymore only to find himself in an affair that tore him up emotionally. The female lead has chosen to stay on in a seemingly good marriage, and be eaten up emotionally inside, even though she eventually ended up sharing this affair. The ending is realistic as far as the strength of each character goes, duty versus want, mind versus heart, that's the underlying beauty of this movie, portrayed truthfully by these two torn characters.

A love that does not speak its name........2007-03-10

A worthy movie for adults. The plot is a bit like "Last Tango in Paris," with a man and woman accidentally meeting, then showing up one afternoon a week for some rabid sex, neither telling the other anything about themselves. The guy (Mark Rylance) decides to follow the woman (Kerry Fox), discovers she's married and works in a shabby theater, and is married to a not-overly-bright man who has too many chins and a puffy lower lip like Alfred Hitchcock's. Both of the men want her and she decides to stay with her husband and children. End of plot.

This is about as deglamorized a movie as has recently appeared. At first, both Rylance and Fox look like the kind of people who are right up there in the first rank of the third rate. He runs a bar. He's balding, skinny, always needs a shave, and lives alone in some seedy dump that looks like a Soviet-era zheloy dom. She first appears with her hair up, working-class style, glumly groomed. And the two of them are photographed -- dressed or otherwise -- in a way that makes their skin seem to emit a pale sickly blue. Your first thought is liable to be a red flag: This is going to be one depressing flick.

Then as the plot develops -- hard as it is to follow in its details -- we come to know them surprisingly well, the two of them. Rylance takes on a certain pathetic charm with his scarred eyebrow and occasional stutter. And Kerry Fox lets her hair down, literally, and we can see the self-knowledge and the desire in her big blue New Zealand eyes. They become likable.

In many ways the most admirable person important to the story is Timothy Spall as Kerry's husband, the Hitchcockian cab driver. He's not particularly bright and he trusts people a bit too much. And, man, he looks unprepossessing. But he's gregarious, generous, good-natured, and as harmless as a child. When he discovers that Rylance and Fox have been boffing each other, what does he do? Does he pick up a gun and spray lead. Does he do a plastic-surgery number on Rylance's face? Nope. He goes round to Rylance's bar, has a beer, and tells Rylance that he loves his wife. And that every day he loves her more. Later, when Fox prompts him to ventilate his anger over her affair, all he can come up with is something like, "I don't care about that s***! What really bothers me is that you're a lousy actress and will never be anything else!" When he's done shouting, she replies, "You don't even know how to hurt me." There are other characters in the story too -- children, an ex-wife, somebody named Victor with a Scots accent, and a gay French bartender who philosophizes a lot. (I wonder if the writers had a particular model in mind.) Next to Kerry's husband, the French guy is about the most articulate of the bunch.

But that's the problem with the movie. I was frankly lost at times. I honestly don't know how Spall's character found out about his wife's affair. Evidently she confirmed suspicions he already had, but since the scene doesn't appear on screen we have to guess. In fact, if the love scenes are speechless, the rest of the script isn't much better. More than once a character says to another, "I can't understand a word you're saying." Sometimes I couldn't either. "We shouldn't be gay because someone died." "Nobody died." "I died once. It was the only day I could tell the whole truth." I think we're in "Last Year at Marienbad" territory here. A shouting match between Rylance and Kerry in the basement theater made no sense to me at all. It reminded me of my marriage.

I recommend it though. It's a rare movie made for adults. It's a challenging drama about lives that are either half empty or half full, depending on how you look at them. The ending is sad, but we are at least left with the hope that these characters can mend their tattered lives and get on with things.

Intimacy isn't about titillation or tanned toned Hollywood studs and babes having perfectly choreographed sex in beautiful lighting while poor piano music plays. Instead it's about an ordinary pair of people seeking solace in a purely physical relationship. Both are empty individuals and briefly find something to fire them in their weekly sexual meetings. Nothing is said but there is a purity of understanding.

The relationship, and the film, only falters when the film moves outside the seedy flat that the liaisons take place in. The wordless arrangement can only work while everything is strictly anonymous, and once Jay (Rylance) delves into Claire's (Fox) personal life their apparently simple relationship becomes more complicated.

It's also here that the film briefly slumps. Jay encounters Claire's taxi driver husband, played by an uncharacteristically off form Timothy Spall. Speaking nonsense and totally over the top, his scenes are almost unbearably dreary. I can certainly see why Claire would want peace and quiet and intense sex after listening to that intensely boring man twitter on. Still, it doesn't make his scenes any better to watch.

Despite that though the film regains it footing and ends strongly. Even Timothy Spall's character shows some hidden depths! However, Intimacy works best as a comment on the relationships people trap themselves in. It's easier to stay in an unhappy relationship than walk out, and starting something new takes courage. Jay and Claire are unable to escape their empty lives, except in their sexual relationship. Really both are cowards. Neither is happy, but neither makes a serious effort to change their circumstances. Sex is a temporary answer to a permanent problem, and until they reach out for something more neither will be happy.
The film had an increasing energy which I liked, and I'm sure you would like it too, if you let yourself inside the film.

A couple of years back I went seeking sexy films I might watch with my husband - something fun and erotic that we could share. Having trawled through acres of trite, poorly crafted, not very inspiring videos and on the verge of giving up the search, I had the luck to find Tony and Peggy Comstock and Comstock Films. I've been a fan ever since - hence the reviews!

Marie and Jack: A Hardcore Love Story, from director Tony Comstock, has been talked about a good deal and justifiably cooed over since its release in 2003. Reviewers one by one have succumbed to the film's charm. They've no doubt been beguiled, like I was, by the fresh faced enthusiasm that Jack and Marie demonstrate for each other, engaged by their good natured humour and captivated by witnessing the intimacy and pleasure of authentic sex between this real life couple, all skillfully captured buy a clever filmmaker.

As I discovered on my search, Marie and Jack seems to represent a rare find in explicit erotic material -- a film that truly celebrates sex as a joyous, intimate connection between people and does so in a way that clearly reminds us of why beautiful lovemaking is so enthralling and pleasurable to watch. I highly recommend this film.

What a sex film should be.......2007-03-12

Along with his wife Peggy, filmmaker Tony Comstock makes a name for himself in filming real couples having sex. These are not the horrible "amateur" films one can find everywhere on the internet, but lovingly filmed and beautifully lit near-documentaries of couples who genuinely enjoy each other. "Marie and Jack: A Hardcore Love Story" was the first Comstock film, and if you have high standards for erotic films you won't be disappointed.

The couple--Marie Silva, a porn actress who works under the name of Aria, and her husband Jack Bravo, also a porn actor--talk frankly about their relationship and how their sex life intermeshes with their professional lives. Interspersed with their interview are the sex scenes. Despite their professions neither Marie nor Jack look like typical porn stars--they're good-looking, but not gorgeous; there are no fake breasts or painted faces or overly buff bodies or bad fake tans. About the most outrageous thing to be seen on either of them are Marie's silver-painted nails! The chemistry between them is palpable, which makes the sex scenes scorchingly hot. There is no overdone moaning or screaming or weird positions. It is voyeurism at its most intimate, but with much better camera angles.

This is a great couples film, as well as a good introduction for the sex film neophyte. Comstock Films has released three other films since "Marie and Jack"--one, "Matt and Khym: Better Than Ever" is also available on Amazon--but "Marie and Jack" remains a sentimental favorite of mine. It's always enjoyable to watch people having sex who look like they're actually having fun. Thank you, Tony and Peggy!

This DVD already had many reviews, but I'd just quickly add that it's important to consider that "sensual massage" doesn't necessarily imply anything sexual. It merely means massage for the purpose of engaging and soothing the senses. That as opposed to "therapeutic massage," where the purpose is to relieve symptoms of medical difficulties. This DVD certainly does show some things that could be sexually exciting, but that's not its primary emphasis.

Useful DVD.......2006-06-15

The Art of Sensual Massage DVD is divided into sections that correspond with different parts of the body. The Chest and Abdomen contain massage sstrokes for that area, with every step show very clearly. You can see the motion that you need to use and the exact pressure. This is very important if you want to learn to give your own sensual massage to your friends and lovers.

I found this to be a complete and humanistic treatment of an often abused subject. In fact, massage is quite worthwhile and should be part of every home environment, along with fine cooking and music. I recommend this DVD for those who want to learn how to do sensual massage.

The video is beautifully made, sensual and artistic throughout and in good taste. The instructional technique is very well thought out and you can learn at your own pace. Every part of the body is presented with great attention to details you will actually need to do a sensual massage. Common errors are discussed, so you don't have to worry about getting it wrong. The net result is a massage techique that feels incredibly good.

If you are interested in sensuality and deep relaxation, get this DVD. It's very enjoyable to play with, especially in a romatic setting.

If you really want to learn massage, this DVD delivers!.......2005-12-20

This is a very thorough companion piece to the books on how to do massage by Gordon Inkeles. Even if you have several of the books, as I do, this DVD will still teach you a lot about rhythms and pressures to use on every part of the body. There is nudity in every scene and the people being massaged look very satisfied, but it is done with restraint and good taste. I found it to be an artistic work, with much information that I couldn't get from any book. You will see every step of a complete body massage here and any questions you might have about technique will be clearly answered.

The massage technique in this DVD closely resembled that in the book called "The Art of Sensual Massage." I really appreciated being able to freeze a frame and try things myself. I think that anyone who is interested in massage will learn something here. This is a very good way to learn how to do a sensual massage.

Very, very useful in learning how to do sensual massage. You don't need a single thing more; it's all here. The DVD takes you step-by-step through a complete body massage, leaving nothing out. Fingers to back, there are strokes and hints for every body part. All are clearly shown and explained in detail. The technique explanation has a warm, friendly quality which becomes part of the massage you learn.

Prudes take heed--there's plenty of unapologetic nudity here and it's a beautiful thing to behold. The people shown in the DVD are actually being massaged so you learn exactly what to do and where. Pressures and rhythms are clearly show as well.

Many hints on technique round off the DVD. When you try this massage on a partner you get terrific results the first time out. I can't recommend this highly enough. I've shared massage with a number of people since I got this DVD and have gotten great feedback. It's not difficult to learn at all.

If you are new to erotic massage, I recommend this video. It shows that a slow, gentle, and sensual massage leads to more eroticism. If you want a regular massage, go to a massage therapist. If you want to learn erotic massage as foreplay, try this one.

Arousing but not enough detail.......2004-08-26

I was hoping to learn something new but was a little disappointed. I have never watched a video like this before and was expecting lots of detail on new techniques. I know tantra offers details and good instructions on how to perform certain techniques but the video left those out. I did give it four stars though because the movie was very arousing and the actors (hard to tell they are acting at all) were honest and believable. It was well presented and not offensive. Overall a good investment but if you are looking for more info on tantra then look at the books instead. The books offer more detailed instruction. Boyfriend found the video distracting during lovemaking. So if you buy this film try to watch it in its entirety before practicing its technique.

Hands down my favorite Comstock title (and all of his titles are first rate).......2007-04-19

Tony Comstock is the creator and master of a new genre of films: explicit couples' sexuality documentaries. Comstock states that "intent to arouse" is often cited as the dividing line between art and porn. Of all the emotions a director might hope to induce in an audience, arousal remains the last taboo, and Tony Comstock takes it head-on.

I bought all of Comstock's collection at the urgings of the editorial team over at the Feddy & Eddy website. Comstock is a genius, and Damon and Hunter is my hands-down favorite of all his titles. For reference, his other titles include Marie and Jack (Comstock's first film, with married pornographic actors), Xana and Dax (an experienced NY blonde and her younger Brazilian lover), Matt & Khym (a 30-something married couple), and Ashley & Kisha (a lesbian couple). Damon and Hunter is the story of two gay male lovers, and I encourage viewers of any sexual orientation to pick this one up. I'm a heterosexual female and I can assure you that both my partner and I enjoyed this one.

Damon and Hunter found one another as roommates in New York City, and started a sexual relationship before their romantic one. One is a Canadian from a family in which they gays outnumber the straights, and the other was raised as a tried-and-true Southern Christian. In the first half of the film, they discuss their love life, attraction, relationship history, and personal turn-ons in frank terms. Who actually doesn't enjoy anal action during stimulation? Was one worried about handling the size of the other? What are their rules for outside guests in the bedroom? The second half of the movie is movie is pure intimate action.

The DVD comes complete with a bonus track showing alternate camera angles, including an optional audio commentary from Tony and Peggy Comstock. The camera angles would be of interest to cinematography students, but for the casual fan, I recommend sticking with the terrific editing job Comstock did for the main film. The audio commentary contains insights about how Comstock finds his subjects (I guess you can find someone to do anything on Craigslist) and his movie-making strategy. Buy this film to enjoy again and again, both as a documentary piece and as erotic cinema, and look to the audio commentary and previews of other titles when you want to go deeper.

In Comstock's award-winning Xana and Dax: When Opposites Attract, he stays true to his mission of showing flesh in the context of intimacy and love. The conversation between husband and wife is in many ways more revealing than the pure sex, as the two discuss their initial attraction, personal turn-ons, secret desires, and intimate moments. In this case, Xana, the pale blonde with a gorgeous full-color back piece, is the older and more experienced of the two. Brazilian Dax is shyer about his sexuality and reveals some of his early fears about his body hair and lovemaking style.

The DVD is straightforward and to-the-point. The first half consists of a conversation with Xana and Dax, with brief segments from their lovemaking style interspersed within the narrative. The second half is an uninterrupted bedroom session (outtakes from which are what add spice to the first half of the move). The viewer is a part of their bedroom, and at no time does it appear that the director has interrupted to give them any cinematic tips. This is raw and intimate, beautifully shot, with no exaggeration or acting.

This is recommended along with the other Comstock Films advertised on the DVD. Just watch the outtakes and you'll be rushing out to purchase Marie & Jack (Comstock's first film, with married pornographic actors), Damon & Hunter (a male gay couple), Ashley & Kisha (a female lesbian couple), and Matt & Khym (a 30-something married couple).

In teaming up with filmmaker, Tony Comstock, Xana and Dax get to tell us their love story and show us their lovemaking. It's a beautiful and delightfully sexy tale, just like a good love story should be, and exactly the kind of story I love.

There's Xana -- all blonde, creamy smooth skin and lovely curves and then there's her handsome, dark haired, Brazilian husband, Dax -- she's a little bold -- he's a little shy -- on the surface they do indeed appear to be opposites, but as we hear their story, we learn just how close and complementary they truly are. When we see them make love, it's confirmed without a doubt. These two enjoy themselves with the unhurried grace of a couple who've come to know each other well, with the assured, confident moves of soul mates who know what it takes to turn each other on and with the ease of real life lovers whose motivation is pure pleasure. Their pleasure quickly becomes ours.

In making a film that lets the lovers shine, Tony Comstock allows some of that warmth to spill over onto us.The filmmaker seems to indulge the viewer, wanting us to see everything he sees and much more -- it's a generous kind of filmmaking that presents sex in an elegantly explicit but almost defiantly straightforward way.

The DVD is a very good looking production from the box cover, disc titles, the clear, simple and easy to navigate menu to the paragraphs of text that introduce and provide context for the clips that follow. There are four extended trailers included for the other currently available Comstock Films Marie & Jack: A Hardcore Love Story, Damon & Hunter: Doing It Together Love, Ashley & Kisha: The Right Fit, and Matt & Khym: Better Than Ever.

Xana and Dax is a very sexy love story -- one that starts sparks flying in our household regularly. I recommend it highly.

You Can't Fake the Sizzle.......2007-03-10

Xana and Dax is a great film for couples . . . but don't get it just for that reason. It is a beautifully filmed display of personal connection and lovemaking. The heat between these two is what I wish for everyone.

This graphic film is quite satisfying, and I am glad to see Amazon offer this very healthy and entertaining DVD. I am thankful to see sex and love be accepted in this day where we flip TV channels only to see people maimed and killed for entertainment's sake.

Comstock Films is a big part of changing the world for the better. Buy it for a friend.

The sinclair institute may have a reputation for quality products but the better sex series is a big let down. What the other reviews fail to tell you is that these videos were originally produced in 1990. IT was an exeriment to use "actual couples for loving sex". It was a neat idea at the time but this is what you get. Ugly models having sex. My wife and I had to turn this off the first time. The models are just ugly and old. It seams as if the majority of models are over 4 and not good looking at all. Kinda like a swing fest for loosers.

If you are going to look for help on sex, look at Anne Hoopers guides or the old Kama Sutra series. They were much better than this.

1) A couple of the actors are not pleasing to look at, period!
2) The theme of the video is mostly concerned about okaying you that oral sex is okay.
3) I'd say this video is geared toward a very young couple who have never tried oral sex before.
4) The second time I watched it with a new girl friend, I almost fell asleep! LOL

He's right the people on the video are just horrid to look out instantly ruining the mood you were trying to capture by watching this with your spouse. There is a scene early on where a rather fat hairy pale guy whose image still haunts my mind is getting oral sex, and i have yet to make it past that scene and probably never will. All the sinclair videos i've seen have extremely gorgeous people on the ads and sometimes covers of the Dvd but no where in any of the tapes does anyone look remotely of the same caliber as the ads. It's hard to watch this, you most likely aren't going to learn a single new thing this is just going to be a waste of your money and then time.

If you have had ANY sex outside of the missionary position - this is not the movie for you. We found it very boring. Nothing we hadn't tried before (and we are not THAT adventurous). And... the actors... hello?? Could they at least be attractive and not keep showing the guys hairy butt!!!

If you've never seen one of these movies before, they're all a little bit like watching a porno. This is one of the better ones, most of them aren't very educational. There are some basic sex-ed things they go into that's a little ridiculous but it's a pretty good video. For being a DVD though, the quality was a little on the rough side.

My wife and I found this video both educational and informative. Let's face it, one of the best aphrodisiacs is novelty and there is plenty of novelty in this DVD. It's nice that they used real people and the expert commentary was very permission giving. It has definitely helped our relationship.
