Description

Only weeks after his father dies and his eleven-year marriage abruptly ends in divorce, James Dodson decides to go on a fly-fishing adventure with his unforgiv-ing child. His goal: to heal his wounded spirit and explain the vagaries of life and love to his seven-year-old daughter, Maggie, who can't come to terms with the sudden disruptions in her life. Together, they wander towards the spirit and lure of America's mighty rivers to find understanding within their fractured lives. Along the way, James discovers the special relationship that a father can forge with his child as it is handed down through generations of love and learning.

Dodson's Journey is a great film about relationships. David Elliot is super as a gentle feeling dad trying to communicate with his daughter and deal with his own feelings of loss. Loss of his father, his marriage and his dreams. Good for all ages. beautiful people and beautiful country. David's real life wife, Nancy plays a small part.

I purchased this DVD mainly because I'm a JAG-fan and wanted to see something else acting D.J.Elliott. I'm glad I did. This is a wonderful, quiet film, with unexpected depths. Since then, I've watched it many-many times, read Dodson's novel and almost all the other books he mentions. A good film lead me to a deeper knowledge of American literature and culture. Never before in my life have i seen such a beautiful film based on an such a beautiful book written by such an outstanding writer. Based on the deeply touching novel by "James Dodson" entitled "Faithful Travelers", this film conveys the novel perfectly. To understand the film completely, you will have to read the book of course. But even if you haven't read the book this film will still grab you, and touch your heart, whilst taking you into its own unique world of love and understanding. Showing ones emotional triumph over loss and sadness. With an added lift by its spiritual, poetic, and native American influence.

Directed by "Gregg Champion" this film of course holds very strong acting, and a very strong cast. Gregg Champion is a fantastic director. And If you've seen his previous film "The Simple Life Of Noah Dearborn", you will know what i'm talking about. Gregg Champion really knows how to warm the viewers heart, by telling a story as real and as refreshing as possible. Looks like he's done it again!

Also the films deeply moving music score is absolutely beautiful! It's composed by "Joseph Conlan". Joseph Conlan has worked with Gregg Champion on many of his films, and I can see why Gregg keeps working with him as the score to this film is absolutely fantastic. The music score really does emphasize the emotion in this moving film, as strongly as it does warm the viewers heart. The music is so beautiful and Joseph Conlan is fastly becoming one of my favorite film composers. Joseph Conlan also worked with Gregg Champion on "The Simple Life Of Noah Dearborn".

The locations and scenery are to take your breath away. After watching the film it really made me want to go on the very same journey. In all though, the film makers along with Gregg Champion adapting the beautiful novel of "Faithful Travelers" really did do a fantastic job. This is a film with a heart for a heart, and it certainly is a journey to heal the heart.

There's such a unique beauty to this film that I just pray everyone else can see. Watching this film really is a breath of fresh air. So just sit back an enjoy this masterpiece...

Acting was very realistic. David Elliot is brilliant in this one. You get a real feel for the sadness this family goes through as it is on the brink of divorce, but with the sadness is also hope for a new beginning!
