Harlequin movie.......2007-01-26
Enjoyable. I would've preferred more emphasis on the romance. Chris Potter and Chandra West have good chemistry. I like them both as actors.
Enjoyable Fluff!.......2005-10-07
What do you want from a Harlequin movie? This one has intrigue as well as romance and I liked the twists and turns. Mixed reviews usually mean the thing is worth investigating. It is fun stuff!
The Waiting Game.......2005-04-29
The Waiting Game, a decent made for TV suspense drama. I couldn't understand why it was a part of a Romance Series, it was more about CIA mystery stuff than anything else. However, my biggest complaint is about Paula Abdul. For all of the future viewers of this movie, please be aware that if you're going to see it because of Paula, you should know that she's not really in it that much. She has more of a supporting role with a couple of lines sprinkled here and there. Don't be fooled by the advertisements. If you're planning to watch this just to see Paula, be careful, for you may end up playing a "waiting game" of your very own.
okay movie, made better with chris potter & jonathan crombie.......2004-09-27
This was your standard "romance book turned TV movie" fare. If you don't look at it as anything else and don't take it too seriously, you'll be happy with the result. The acting (aside from veterans like Chris Potter, Jonathan Crombie, and the lead actress, Chandra West) was less than stellar. I was flipping channels and actually stopped on the WE channel because I saw Jonathan Crombie who I love!! You may remember, he played Gilbert on the "Anne of Green Gables" movie Trilogy which also starred Megan Follows and Colleen Dewhurst. I fell in love with him years ago upon first viewing of those movies and have since seen them countless times - definatley one of my top 3 favorite movies of all time. He was one of my first teenage crushes. He has not aged too well but his acting is still good. He will always be Gilbert to me though.
Anyway, I am a lover of romance (both books and movies) and I got caught up watching this movie. The previous reviewer was right - the chemistry between Chris and Chandra was palpable. They really worked as a romantic pair and they were the only reason I stuck with it (aside from Jonathan of course). Chris Potter is total hunk and his scenes with Chandra are worth the price of admission. He is a romance novel leading man come to life complete with the smoldering looks, the totally hot body, and the sizzling chemistry with the woman he loves.
If you like fluffy romances with a fairly interesting plot in addition to the "will-they-or-won't-they" storyline and a happy, albeit predictable ending, then this movie is for you. Yes, Paula Abdul is in it and I thought she was passable as an actress. Not the greatest acting I've ever seen but definately not the worst.
Overall, a pretty good movie adaptation of a romance novel - I would definately recommend it and I would watch it again if it comes on TV.
Terrible Movie, but hey, Paula Abdul's in it!.......2004-07-20
I have always heard nothing but terrible reviews of this movie, so when I decided to finally see for myself (and this was solely because I am a Paula fan and wanted to see her...*bad acting*) it was worse than expected. The film lagged and reminded me of Paula's last venture in acting. "touched by evil" anyone (one of ABC's worst made for TV movies in history).
Bottem line: Not worth your precious time (unless you like Paula!).

At last, a movie made by and for actors with lots of experience in the service industry. The Waiting Game is a slight movie, but nice enough, and sure to provide a few moments of recognition for actors still slugging away in the trenches. The characters are familiar ones: Lenny, the Actor with the Upscale Girlfriend Who Doesn't Understand His Career; Andi, the Actress Who Is in a Dishonest Relationship; Shannon, the Midwesterner; and of course the Gay Guy. Then there is Dan, the Bitter Failed Actor, and clearly the most fun part--he is awarded the angry interior waiter monologues; the bad, pretentious one-man show; and the actor-blows-up-at-the-insensitive-casting-people monologue. The Waiting Game has nothing you haven't seen before, but it's made with affection and authenticity. Watch it after you've spent the evening in the weeds with a low-tipping eight-top. --Ali Davis
Customer Reviews:
Modest Amusements & Modest Charms From A Modest Indie.......2006-10-15
Still lamenting the death of TV's great "Arrested Development"? I know I am, that's why I checked out this very little indie from 1999. It stars Will Arnett who brilliantly played Gob on the aforementioned "Arrested Development" (buy all three seasons on DVD now!).
This is a small story about a group of actors who are working in the service industry awaiting their big break. Anyone who has lived in New York, or even Los Angeles, will instantly recognize this category of actor/waiters. The cast of relative unknowns do a nice job of bringing this group of friends to life. The film probably had a tiny budget, and it shows, but there are modest charms to be had throughout the production. The script is reasonably funny and the performers appealing, and it's particularly fun to see Arnett showing glimpses of star potential.
I would easily recommend this film to several groups of people: Aspiring actors who will identify with the characters, people interested in the subject matter, and aspiring filmmakers who wish to study the work of other indie directors. Strangely enough, the writer/director Ken Liotti has yet to do another film--I'd be interested to know why.
I'm more hesitant to recommend this film across the board, though. It is a minor, mildly amusing film. But it's biggest problem is a lack of originality. You may feel you've seen similar stories done with bigger budgets and better actors--and you probably have. But I forgave some of the cliche moments and embraced the gentle spirit of this sweet indie. KGHarris, 10/06.
An unexpected treat.......2001-05-14
This is a terrific movie to rent and watch and spend a fun evenig with a friend. The story keeps moving and has plenty of hilarity to keep you interested throughout. The advertising accurately describes it as a cross between Friends and Sex in the City. Neither to serious or to light its the perfect entertainment.
Ken Liotti: The Next Woody Allen.......2000-10-25
One viewing of this hilarious movie will convince you the name Ken Liotti is one to watch. His insightful vignettes of contemporary artists-in-waiting splays across the screen the bold colors of desperation, decadence, and the undaunted pursuit of a dream. Ken's mastery of colloquial New York-ese draws laughter and - at times - disturbing introspection from the audience. His hard-line realism in depicting the grunge and garishness of these aspiring artists' world transports the viewer directly into their midst. This man's days among independent filmmakers are numbered...watch for this boy in Hollywood!

the most boring movie ever.......2006-02-01
this movie is the most boring movie i have ever seen, its more boring then the teletubbies, the only good thing about this movie was Paula Abdul, and she wasnt even in it that much, this movie should have stayed a book the person who came up with the idea of having it a movie must have been seriously druged up, i would rather watch ryan seacrest gel his hair for six hours then ever see this movie again, thank god for Paula Abdul, who was the only thing that made it worth while
