Slightly disappointing.......2007-05-11
The dramatizations were not very good in this one. They also didn't present as many facts as I had hoped. I saw a different knights templar documentary on the history channel and it was far far better than this one. This one is ok. Mildly entertaining, and some decent info.
Don't buy this DVD twice by accident.......2006-05-18
WARNING -- this entire documentary is included as a bonus on disk 2 of "Crusade: the Crescent and the Cross", also made by the History Channel. Not only that, but at the time I am writing this review, "Crescent and the Cross" is selling for less than $15, for 2 disks, with bonus material, while this DVD, "Knights Templar" is selling for about $22 and contains no bonus material at all.
"Knights Templar" is a good, not great, documentary. The story is very good, if brief, but the film footage is definitely NOT up to the History Channel's usual quality. They use a lot of Black and White footage from what looks like a very low budget film -- people swinging weapons like they don't know what to do with them. No actual actors performing for the camera, just background footage with voice-over.
My recommendation -- if you are interested in the history of the Knights of the Temple of King Solomon, buy this DVD, but as the bonus disk in "Crusade: The Crescent and the Cross". That, by the way, is a GREAT DVD!
Low value DVD.......2006-03-22
DVD shows a lot the same images and there are no visits to remaining castles in the world or so. Its the whole time narrating with few asthonishing images.
Informative yet also entertaining.......2006-01-24
The history channel usually does a good job at mixing the informative side of history with the Hollywood side of visual effects and this episode is no different. With clips of fighting, knights on horseback, actual geographical video and their new technology of 3D maps, they do an outstanding job of giving you a full understanding of the terrain mentioned and the layout of the events covered. The Knights of Templar are very much shrouded in mystery so the daunting challenge was handled well in not just covering what is known but logical explanations to a lot of the unanswered questions left behind. I don't want to go into any detail and give anything away for those who have not seen it, but, from conception to their demise, from logical motive of their creation to how they fared in battle it is all covered in an easy to follow and informative way. These knights played such a huge part in history and it is all covered; first standing army since Roman times, first real bankers, historians, what did they find in their tunneling under the Temple of Solomon? And as I said, what they don't have legit answers for they have experts with logical explanations and hypothesis. I thought I knew a lot about them, but really learned a great deal. Recommended highly.

Whats up with the loud, crappy music? Where's the voice?.......2007-06-19
Once again a lot of hype for a very poorly mixed and edited film. I don't know what it is about these films that always falls short with the music/voice mixing. The music is way too loud and the voices are too faint. Not to mention, the music sucks. And, what's up with the reverb? These idiots used a mic on a camera about 50 feet away for the primary voice track in a large hall, so you get all this heavy natural reverb making it even more difficult to hear what the presenter is saying. Maybe a mic a little closer? Idiots. If there is any 'hidden' knowledge being presented, you'll have to wear headphones or constantly adjust the volume for the crappy music interludes to hear anything - or watch it several times and take notes. Why can't they pan the music to one side, the voice to the other, and hire an experienced mixing engineer for appropriate levels? My suggestion to this production company: Stick to the information and tone it down a bit on the unnecessary bells and whistles, and, consider mic placement next time. Frankly, most of us just want to hear the presenter, not be subjected to a bunch of annoying heavy metal music and cheap transition effects. Are these guys trying to promote their friends bands? Just doesn't mesh.
This kind of low quality 'could' be forgivable 20 years ago, but with access to average technology - pre-installed on most computers today - it is criminal.
So Glad.......2006-11-12
I am so glad that Gardiner brought this out because I was furious I couldn't get to the UK to see it. Now I bought this and sat down with a beer and watched. I only wish that DVD's were longer so that I could see all the speakers whole lectures, but to be honest I might have got bored. As it is, this is just the right length and we get tales from all of them, with extras. I loved Crichton Miller, Hamish Miller's music of the crickets and Andrew Collins was shown fully explaining his new Cygnus Mystery. Tim Wallace-Murphy is like a modern day Gandalf and Gardiner is a great stand up comedian (as the outtakes show!)
Buy it, better than most for sure.

Description
Philip Gardiner is a best selling UK author who has been researching the world of the esoteric for over 15 years. His critically acclaimed books include: "Proof, Does God Exist?", "The Shining Ones", "The Serpent Grail" and "Secrets of the Serpent, In Search of the Sacred Past". With his new DVD, "Gnosis: The Secret of Solomon's Temple Revealed," Gardiner proposes that not only didn't Solomon's Temple exist as we know it, but in fact had a much deeper significance. Gnosis, the Secret of Solomon's Temple Revealed- Solomon's Temple in Jerusalem, reputed to be the source of the most esoteric knowledge in human history-has fascinated scholars, seekers and dreamers for centuries. For generations, scholars and researchers have tried in vain to discover the fabled Temple of Solomon, only to be confronted by one problem after another. From the Queen of Sheba and the arcane secrets of the Christian Gnostics to the Muslim Sufi and Hindu Avatars, Gnosis weaves a tale that is both profound and precise. Gardiner declares that the truth of Solomon's Temple has been known all along within the realm of esoteric understanding. Only one question remains: Is the world ready for the truth? Find the true secret of the Knights Templar and the mysteries of the ancients. Find the truth for yourself in Gnosis. This is the story that has been kept from the ears of mankind for too long. You cannot truly live until you have Gnosis. * Reveals the real secrets brought back by the infamous Knight's Templar * The truth at the heart of ancient Freemasonry * The truth behind the real Grail and the Da Vinci Code * Who were Solomon and Sheba? * The secret of Solomon's Temple * The ancient and sacred nature of our quantum existence Gnosis, the Secret of Solomon's Temple DVD, 57 minutes, RYE 1001

GNOSIS, THE SECRET OF SOLOMON'S TEMPLE REVEALED.......2007-05-25
I THINK THE ACTIONAL DVD HAD ALOT GOOD IMFORMATION,BUT THE MUSICAL BACK DROP DEFEATED THE HOLD PURPOSE OF THE DVD,I PERSONALLY COULD NOT ENJOY IT AT ALL BECAUSE OF THE MUSIC, IT WAS TO LOUD AND THE SELECTION JUST DIDN'T BELONG TO THE DVD...
Some little gnostic ideas with lots of unpleasant music!.......2007-01-14
Well, I must say that the DVD has many aspects:
1. Most of the music is absolutely annoying and horrible for a topic such as gnosticism. Furthermore, the volume of the music itself sometimes does not allow us to listen clearly to the words of the narrator.
2. Everything in reduced to this: GNOSIS is an alectromagnetic experience with the quantum universe that lies within the self. Hence, to be illuminated by Christ or to be a Buddha is just to achieve an electromagnetic condition offered by the union with the Universal Mind and the kundalini in us.
3. The narratror fails to expose a very important and key idea: there are TWO types of kundalini and two main centers in the human body. He never speaks of the Kundalini of the Heart. He speaks only of the lower kindalini, the one responsible for the human sexuality.
4. Anyway, it is worth to watch the DVD once. But be prepare to endure a very disgusting and annoying music that hides the most important thing: the words of the narrator! Too much especualtion, at the end.
It is sad that there is not yet in the market a good DVD on GNOSIS or Gnosticism, made with ellegance, fair scientifical research and seriousness, without any music at all as the background.
This DVD is an excellent example of how annoying can music be!
Fair...Not Fine.......2007-01-12
Too much annoying music (played at such a volume) that you can barely hear what the narrator is saying.
Very little real insight (or information) on Gnosis.
Not very long (that could be bad or good).
If one didn't know any better, you would have thought you were watching an MTV Music Video by a band named "Gnosis".
A pity...since a serious (in depth) video on Gnosis and the history of Gnosticism is greatly desired (and needed).
Superb images, superb tale.......2006-11-12
Anybody watching this who does not love the beautiful imagery, wonderful underscored music and great narration must be blind, deaf and well, daft. This is a work of art which is why it won an award and as a work of Art I suppose it can be a subjective opinion on its merits. I loved every second and have watched it again and again and again. I have now bought Secrets of the Serpent, and to be honest, it's much better, but both are brilliant.
Good info, bad production!.......2006-11-10
I had to stop the DVD about 15 min into it.
The information seems to be extremely interesting as I have been working on this thought process for years. I anxiously waited for the DVD to arrive to see what the author had to say about this topic. Unfortunately, the audio and visual quality of the material was too distracting from the presentation. I was expecting something like a Discovery or History Channel type production with images and historical facts to backup the presented material.
Instead, the "music" is horrible, too loud, and it's hard to undertand what the author is saying in places, and the images are a constant collage of the author walking through museums and other places overlayed with images of artifacts to the point of sheer boredoom. There seems to be no purpose of the images other than to fill the screen with something. They may mean something in the author's mind, but how about explaining them to us. After 15 min of this, I had all I could take. I plan to send this back and order the book instead.
I think the content is going to be good. But the production needs a complete rework, better yet, just make an audio CD with no music or at least dead quiet while the author is speaking! If you can get past the distractions, you might enjoy this DVD.

Useful to the Uninformed.......2007-01-08
While not very visually engaging, it does make a good presentation of historic information regarding the history and activities of the Knights Templar. I wouldn't recommend it to any serious researcher, but it would be useful to those curious about the Knights but not interested in investing their time in a book. In addition, do not buy this film seeking to learn about Holy Grail myths. It mentions them, but spends the majority of its time on more concrete history and events.
More Instruction Than Entertainment.......2006-01-24
People interested in history should find this to be an excellent introduction to the Knights Templar. It stays away from the fanciful and recounts the history of the order. The photography is beautiful and adds to the information. The maps also add a great touch. This DVD will inform you. This is a documentary and does not attempt to be entertaining, yet I was entertained.
Historical reference, but visually challenged.......2005-11-17
The material is based on the researches of Professor Malcolm Barber of the University of Reading in England, who appears in this production discussing the history presented. It is augmented with material by Dr. David Nicolle of the University of Nottingham in England as well. Both men are noted Medieval Historians and authors, Prof. Barber being a noted historian on the Crusades, and Dr. Nicolle being very well versed on medieval history, castles and warfare.
The production is in four parts, covering Origins, Corporation, Frontier and Legend. Origins cover how the Templars came about. They do not mention Hugh de Payne or the original group who are credited with the founding of the Templars, but does pick up from the time of the First Crusades, and does cover the circumstances of why a military order was needed, and how the Order was finally acknowledged and accepted.
Corporation is much more interesting, showing how much of an important part the Templars played in the construction of the financial basis for that time period in history. The foundation of the Templar finances is examined and clearly laid out. This is necessary in order to understand what finally happens to them.
Frontier lays the basis for the fall of the Holy Land and the effects it had on the Templars. Reinforced and secure, they lose their ground to the Mamluks. The power struggle plays out, the Holy Land is finally lost to the Crusaders, and the Templars move back into Europe to find they are financially secure, but have no reason now for existence.
The final installment, Legend, examines the fall of the Templars. Their financial holdings appealed to a failing monarchy, they become the target for the financially strapped French King, and are arrested, tortured, tried and burned.
Throughout the documentaries, Prof. Barber and Dr. Nicolle, as well as a few other specialists, add their viewpoints and their expertise to the topic and make some sense out of what could be confusing and lacking in details. The material is augmented by the commentaries and is very much like a college class study than a read through a high school text book. A big plus in my view.
The examination of the legends and stories about the Templars is also a big plus, as it puts into perspective some of the myths that started almost as soon as the last Templars were put to death. A very good addition to the work.
While the history seems skimmed over, it appears the timing is probably the reason why. Each episode is approximately 30 minutes long, so there really isn't all that much time to get into details.
As far as the history, the material is well researched, well presented and the whole of the production is very interesting and the time allowed for the production covers the material well enough.
One thing I did find annoying was the production itself. There is much repetition in the visuals. The same knights keep trotting across the screen to fill in the visuals while the narrator Art Malaik covers some details. I gave it three stars because of this. We watch videos for the visual content, which is lacking here.
This would fit well as a four part series to augment any medieval history class, as they are roughly thirty minute episodes. And the expertise of Prof. Barber and Dr. Nicolle make this a very good all around picture of the Crusades as well. So, if you are looking for some good historical background material for the Crusades and the Knights Templar, this is a good production well worth the time to explore. medievalcrusadesbabe
The Knights Templar.......2002-09-15
I found the documentary a bit repetitive with its scences. It looks to have been made with a very low budget. So much more could have been said about the history of a very influencial order that changed many of the rules of warfare and even trade during the 13th and 14th Century and have given rise to a lot of speculation as to their connection with Masons, Rosicrucians and other secret organizations. The two "experts" did a credible job in their explanations and the photography, particularly that in the deserts was very good but as far as historical information, it left a lot out.
Knights Feeble.......2002-08-28
A dull and uninformative effort with low production values, utilizing two talking heads with the same limited graphics and music in mind numbing repetition for two hours! A poorly written documentary that jerks without explanation from one period to another, shows buildings without explanation of what they are and where, and even abruptly introduces Salidin without explanation of who he was and where he came from. The Knights Templar story is a fascinating one which has lead to some fevered speculations about their secrets, treasures, and religious icons, including the Holy Grail. So excess regarding the Templars has usually been the problem -- but this thing has suceeded in reducing the story to something that would bore a ten year old. Not worth buying at any price.

Customer Reviews:
An interesting look at several Holy Grail candidates.......2007-03-07
When you buy a DVD like this for a buck, you can never be sure you're getting something worth watching, but In Search of the Holy Grail turned out to be a surprisingly good documentary. At 52 minutes, it's certainly not an in-depth examination of the Grail legend in all of its intricacies, but this production communicates a lot of good information and calls upon several formidable and erudite experts from different sides of the debate. After the obligatory laying out of the foundation (the nature of the Grail according to legend vs. its probable factual nature - if it ever even existed, a quick look at life in the Middle Ages, when the legend first arose, etc.), the documentary turns its attention to four (or five) existing "grails" laying claim to the mantle of the Holy Grail, examining each one in turn. It also briefly examines the claim by Michael Baigent and others that the "grail" actually refers to a secret bloodline of Christ (thankfully, it does this with no mention of Dan Brown's name).
Spain's Valencia Cathedral houses an agate vessel said to be the Holy Chalice, the only Grail contender formally blessed by a Pope (John Paul II). Its provenance goes all the way back to the end of the fourteenth century, but it was supposedly taken to Rome by St. Peter, then sent to Spain for safekeeping when the Roman persecution of Christians put it in danger. A more romantic possibility is the Glastonbury Grail, for Glastonbury is intimately associated with the legend of King Arthur. Supposedly, Joseph of Arimathea brought the cup with him to England and buried it at the spot from which the Chalice Well now springs. According to the documentary, local priests threw the chalice into the well for safekeeping after Henry VIII broke from the Vatican and ordered the destruction of all Catholic abbeys. In 1906, a local mystic had a vision of the Grail in the well and, when he dug beneath that well, found a glass bowl which is now known as the Glastonbury Grail.
In 1988, Andrew Sinclair discovered a 15th century scroll containing a "treasure map" which suggested to him that the Grail is buried beneath Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland, the supposed headquarters of the Knights Templar after the surviving Templars fled France. He managed to get permission to excavate the site, finding one of the hidden vaults but no supposed Grail (although some still believe the Grail is there somewhere). The Nanteos House in Scotland holds a mysterious wooden cup, discovered under the ruins of Strata Florida Abbey in the late 1800s, said to have healing powers. The story is that, during the Reformation, seven monks escaped the monastery at Glastonbury with the sacred cup, and it eventually ended up in Strata Florida Abbey. (Physical evidence suggests it is not possibly old enough to be the Holy Grail.) While the Nanteos Cup is comparatively plain, the Great Chalice of Antioch is anything but. Discovered in Turkey in 1910, this chalice is ornately decorated with what some say are perhaps the earliest depictions of Christ's disciples. Since it dates back to the 6th century, however, it could only be the Grail if the Grail was in fact a commissioned piece that had no association with Jesus personally.
The documentary puts forth no opinion on the true identity or whereabouts of the Holy Grail, although some of its experts declare their case for one candidate or the other. The only problem I have with the presentation is the fact that it does not come out and say that several, if not all, of these pieces have been effectively disproven to be the true Holy Grail. Still, it makes for quite an interesting program, especially for such a low-budget price.

Waste of Money.......2007-01-10
Do not waste your money on this item, it is the worst I have ever seen related to anything, let alone UFO's
Horrible DVD, sadly with credible roots.......2005-05-29
If you really do your homework, you will discover that the period when these discs first appear is the early 1940's and that credible people have determined the Germans were on to something beyond Newtonian Physics.
The first official sighting is claimed by two Navy Intelligence pilots over Washington State in 1947 and it's no coincidence that thousands of German scientists were spirited to safety after the war.
Obviously your mind is probably made up, and you wouldn't be investigating the phenomenon if you didn't have strong feelings about it. But before you dismiss me as a nut, read "The Hunt For Zero Point" by Nick Cook, aviation editor of Jane's Defense Weekly. Watch a TLC program called "The Billion Dollar Secret". These two sources will give you a good idea of what your seeing; a craft powered by a gravitational field that literally 'falls' in whatever direction the pilot steers. Another field inside the craft protects the occupant from G's that would kill anyone making a turn like the ones typically witnessed.
There's plenty of other source material, more than half mixed with fabrication and truth, including this video. The music is so cheesy and the production value so low that it is really not worth the price, however as I said, there is sadly a grain or two of truth here.
Intresting and unique content - poor quality dub.......2005-03-01
Makes you wonder why these types of UFO's haven't been seen since the post war period.
Makes you also wonder why lots of German scientists moved over to the US after the war, what else did they bring with them?
Though the quality of the DVD is about as good as an old VHS tape, the content is pretty unique and gives the view some new perspectives to consider.
The end of the DVD focuses less on fact and more on speculation, but overall - an intresting perspective.
Oh dear.......2005-01-31
Man, do i feel ripped off, i should of known just by looking at the cover. Home made baloney narrated by some moron who has not a clue about what he's talking about.
Avoid.
Nazi UFO Secrets - Yeah Right!!!.......2004-09-15
Oh Jeez, what a load of hogwash. It appears as though someone has cut and pasted images of the past, and created an unbelievable story line to it.
All the credible images are clear (Such as the German V-2, V-1 rockets) and all non-credible images (The Honey Bell UFO) nothing but blurred tacky images, which the narrator then makes something out of. "Conspiracy!" What the.....!!!
If you believe in this, then you surely believe in pigs can fly!
Can't believe that this is able to be purchased on Amazon!
Thank you for ruining my buying experience from Amazon, as I will never again trust, or buy a DVD that I can not physically handle.
The Disc has been burnt (copied at home by some clown, the cover, photo copied by some five-year-old.
The only person, who benefited out of this, is my dog! The Disc and Cover makes an awesome frizbi.

Product Description
They defended the Holy Land through bloodshed and prayer. Founded in the 12th century, these Christian warrior monks reigned supreme for nearly 200 years before suffering a spectacular fall from grace. Branded heretics, they were disbanded and their Grand Master was burned at the stake.
LOST WORLDS probes behind the legend for the lost world of the Knights Templar. Walk the streets of the city they knew as Tortosa-now hidden among modern homes in the Syrian city of Tartus. Visit the site of their Jerusalem headquarters in the Temple Mount, where underground vaults were said to stable 1,000 horses. Experts re-create their mysterious initiation rites in a London church modeled on the Templar's long-demolished home, and the tale of the Templar's last stand is told on the Mediterranean island where they met their end.
