Description
Influenced by Italian Neorealism, The Cow has the beauty and simplicity associated with the great films of that movement. In a small village in Iran, Hassan cherishes his cow more than anything in the world. While he is away, the cow mysteriously dies, and the villagers protectively try to convince Hassan the cow has wandered off. Grief stricken, Hassan begins to believe he is his own beloved bovine. The Cow won great acclaim at the Venice Film Festival after being smuggled out of Iran in 1971, and was twice voted the best Iranian film ever made by a survey of Iranian film critics

When the farmer's back is turned, the animals party down in Barnyard. A young cow named Otis (voiced by Kevin James, The King of Queens) loves to have fun at the farm's wild late-night hoe-downs, despite the disapproval of his father, Ben (Sam Elliott, Thank You for Smoking). When Ben dies defending the barnyard from marauding coyotes, Otis is chosen as the new leader--but responsibility sits uneasily on Otis' head and he fears he may not be able to protect his friends from the coyotes. Barnyard's design of the cows seems inspired by Gary Larson's The Far Side comics; though the style is simple, the characters are surprisingly expressive. From moment to moment, the movie is reasonably entertaining. The actors--including Courteney Cox, Danny Glover, and David Koechner (Anchorman) as a very menacing coyote--do solid voice work and there are plenty of amusing gags. But as Barnyard gallops towards its end, the combination of cliches (the story is a clumsy reworking of The Lion King), odd choices (the male cows have udders), and lackluster dialogue makes the movie sag. --Bret Fetzer

Didn't do it for me.......2007-06-10
This bit of somewhat crude computer generated animation was created by the same folks that brought you Jimmy Neutron, Would be great if it was as good, but I found it rather amatuerish, and fakey. BTW, the male cows with udders thing was an inside joke by the producers, who thought it would be funny. I found the whole thing to be a little on the creepy side. Not to mention that they (the udders) looked like plastic add-ons. The kids liked it tho. But after seeing "Cars", this just doesn't begin to stand up.
A Great Mooooooovie!.......2007-05-15

Picture this: Cows staring at you as you pass by on a walk or in the car, and you wonder, "Do cows just chew grass? Or do they have good and bad thoughts about humans? Well, the movie Barnyard tells all of what cows and other animals think of us.
At the farm, a milk cow, named Ben, has a hard time convincing his son, Otis that he needs to stop goofing around and try to be responsible. It's time for him to grow up and be an example for his friends by obeying the Barnyard rules. (One of them is remain on all fours during the presence of humans.) Then, trouble sets a foot, and it changes Otis' life forever. This causes a big issue in his confidence. Can Otis save the farm before it is too late? Or will trouble reign over the Barnyard?
This is a great movie because it was hilarious but sad, and it made me have different emotions all together. At one time in Barnyard, I would feel sad and then I would be happy. This movie has events like a death, sliding down a cliff, and cows driving a car that make you cry, laugh, and cheer from one moment to the next.
When I first saw the previews for this movie, I thought this movie would be one of those movies that would have no message at all, but I was wrong. The message seemed to be life is not always fun. There's a time to have fun, and there's a time to be serious.
This movie was so much better than the movie I watched with my cousin, which was Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. When I watched it, I was done watching it. It didn't seem to amuse me. The aliens and everybody else in the movie were not hilarious, and there were many jokes that I failed to catch. In Barnyard, you can understand all the jokes and it's hilarious. You can tell the director, Steve Odikerk, put a lot into this movie.
I give Barnyard an A+, because it has awesome music, great animation, and some of life's events that could change a person forever, which you will have to see for yourself.
People who love farms, talking animals, and cow tipping should go see this movie. I recommend this movie for kids over the age of six; because it has some content that is not suitable for younger kids.
Now you have an idea of what Barnyard is all about. This movie is what I would add to my collection of videos or DVDs, because it is funny and awesome.
Well, the Kids Liked It.......2007-05-14
Let me start by saying I ADORE Kevin James. The King of Queens (Seasons 1-8) is one of my favorite sitcoms. And that being said, I will admit that his voicing of a male cow with udders make me think less of the movie. I know others have said it doesn't matter, and maybe it doesn't. But even my 10-year-old son noticed that, for a male bull, it sure looked like a female cow.
The movie itself is fun in some parts, absolutely hilarious in others, and so-so most of the time. For a family film, it's okay, but there are better ones out there. And when you see a male cow with udders becoming a father to a calf for the first time, it just does something (not pleasant) to the overall effect.
Very Funny.......2007-04-28
It was funny to watch and it also had a moral behind it. Which made it better. This movie really rocks.
The pros- Sam Elliot singing and more extras than I thought. The cons- everything else........2007-04-11
What's going on here? All year, I've seen dozens of family movies, new and old. Of those I've seen, only two have been worth mentioning. They're actually incredible movies: The Cat Returns and Balto. Going into any family movie now though, I'm not expecting much. Barnyard didn't help that mind set. I'd like to tell you that I was disappointed by it, but it's exactly what I was expecting it to be. For the most part at least. I didn't expect it to rip off The Lion King, that's for sure. There's not a whole lot to Barnyard really, which is bad to say since the first trailers I saw for it almost 2 years ago made it seem like it'd be a cool lil' movie. Originally called Boy Tipping, it looked like a movie about farm animals getting back at humans who tease them on a regular basis. What happened? Well, considering how the final product turned out, I can't blame them for not showing much in trailers, since, like another bad recent family movie- Happy Feet, things get so boring that it's not worth mentioning. Now, don't think I'm some kid movie hater, because I'm not. Not one bit. But I can't see how anyone without vision or hearing problems can enjoy Barnyard. Why did this thing even get A-list actors to provide the voices? Man I hope Kevin James gets some good roles soon...
We start out by meeting the crew of the farm, which is held together quite well by Ben the cow. He's a tall, dark and beefy bovine who takes out the coyotes who try to feast on the farm folk, and has never let a single animal get harmed under his watch. His son, Otis, doesn't seem like he could care much, since he's a young cow just looking to party and have a good time. He and his buddies skip out on a farm meeting just to go hill surfing. One night though, Ben is overwhelmed by coyotes, and passes away, right before his son. Otis is elected the new head of the farm, but thinks he can't handle it, so he goes about his care free ways, and the entire farm turns into one constant party. They even invite pizza delivery guys to the barn (isn't that sick if the cows and pigs are eating pepperoni though?), not caring too much if they get caught. Heck, when the farmer checks in on them and sees them throwing a huge party, they knock him out several times in order to fix everything. This makes up most of the middle of Barnyard, and it's pretty boring with few jokes that anyone will get much out of. Only later on when most of the chickens are held hostage, does Otis do the right thing and head out to save them, as well as deal with the coyotes like his dad before him.
You could take out the entire second portion of Barnyard, and get the same results. The same jokes are used over and over to the point where you can think up a better one before it's even delivered. I kept falling asleep after the opening due to the lack of anything important or funny happening. Even the big musical numbers were dull. You'd think a rat with sunglasses singing Shaggy's "Boombastic" would be great, and I'm sure it would be, just not here. The only moment from the movie that sticks out in my mind is one that almost doesn't even fit in the movie. When Ben's taking out some coyotes, he's holding a guitar, and plays "I Won't Back Down" by Tom Petty. But given that it's Sam Elliot singing, with his signature deep voice, it's an even more beautiful rendition of the song. It's so great that being in this movie almost holds it down and makes me wonder if it should've even been put here in the first place. I guess mentioning the Lion King rip off bit is worth going into a little more here too. A lot of people claimed that Barnyard took what The Lion King had for the main plot point where Otis didn't want the responsibility of being the head of the farm. A minor thing that could be compared to many movies, sure. But the fact that he also doesn't want to because he makes an agreement with the head coyote (who strongly resembles Scar) seals the deal. Honestly, you're better off showing your kids The Lion King again. I also really do feel sorry for Kevin James being stuck in another lousy movie. After seeing his incredible stand up special, Sweat the Small Stuff, a few years ago, I knew the guy was awesome. His tv series is great too, but his lack of any good movie role choices, as far as I've seen at least, has me worried that he could be fading before he becomes a really big name like he should be.
The picture transfer looks like it was taken from a decent VHS copy. Most CG movies made these days get a great transfer to dvd, but I Barnyard manages to fail in this department as well. Lots of out of focus scenes, fuzz and even some aliasing plague the print. The sound's nice and loud though, and those musical numbers sound great (at least, in the technical sense). Lots of use of surround here for about half the movie, which is more than most animated flicks these days.
I remember commercials boasting that the special features were cool. But yet, once again, things just don't go like the advertisements would lead you to believe. The commentary being such a mess wasn't a good sign for how the other extras on the disc would be. It features Oedekerk, Marshal and "The Barnyard Crew", and is all over the place with people talking over each other. Someone could get a headache 15 minutes into this thing. They talk about some technical aspects, little in-jokes and the like, but never anything that interesting, as I've come to expect from Oedekerk. Boogying in the Barn is your standard featurette fare focusing on the band who made the original songs for Barnyard, North Mississippi All-stars. They seem pretty bored about the whole experience, even during the studio footage. Utter Talent is another short featurette that covers the voice actors, big or small. It's kinda sad to see the director praise some of the actors so much when most of them barely had 10 lines, namely Wanda Sykes and Andie MacDowell. Ironically enough, these two get tons of time during this extra, much more than they got in the movie. On top of this, I didn't even know Courtney Cox did the voice of the main female cow, and in seeing that, it feels like a waste of a big name actress. 'seems like she was expecting the movie to do better than it did. Keeping in the short featurette streak is An Animator's Life, probably the most boring of the bunch. The animators are stiff and keep showing differences between character designs that don't look that different. Having been interested in animation and character design for a long time, I didn't think I'd be saying that looking at something like this could be so boring. At least Method Acting With Kevin James ups things slightly- it's just footage of him on a farm with some cows, trying to act like them/gain inspiration from them. We also get about 10 minutes of deleted scenes with optional commentary. They wouldn't have helped the movie if they were left in, and are either in demi-complete animated or story board form. The Nick On-Air campaign is a series of little clips totaling 6 minutes, and are mostly trailers, but I guess exclusive to Nickelodeon. A lot of this footage is repeated from the previous featurettes, unfortunately. There are also the usual trailers, previews, a trailer for the game, music videos, and some DVD-ROM features (mostly games).
Before this year, I wasn't heartless or anything regarding family movies. But after seeing many disasters, and now Barnyard, I could end up being that way unless something fresh graces my dvd player. Some other bad news I just found out, is that there's going to be a Barnyard tv series. Kevin James is left out of it, but I see that Wanda Sykes has signed on. I guess another lousy animated movie claims another victim into going for roles just to get a quick buck. Do yourself a favor and watch something else, or go do some kind of family activity instead. One that doesn't involve Barnyard. I haven't seen Open Season yet, but I can pretty much promise it's better than this.

Kung Pow! Enter the Fist is best enjoyed with low expectations, if only because it might surprise you with genuine belly laughs. Writer-director Steve Oedekerk uses digital trickery to make himself a costar in the 1976 Hong Kong action flick Tiger & Crane Fist, just as Woody Allen turned a Japanese spy thriller into the comedy spoof What's Up, Tiger Lily? The results are both technically impressive and stupendously stupid. Oedekerk is blandly appealing as "the Chosen One," who sets out to avenge the evil Master "Betty" Pain for killing his family when he was still a kung fu-fighting infant. This stock setup is a cheap excuse for Oedekerk's 80-minute buffet of chop-socky spoofery, with gags lifted from The Matrix, Oedekerk's "Thumbation" comedies, and the rich legacy of Hong Kong action. Featuring "gopher-chucks," a kung fu cow, aliens from France, and enough bad dialogue to choke a crouching tiger, Kung Pow! is mildly spicy, but mostly it's full of nuts. --Jeff Shannon
Description
Writer/director Steve Oedekerk (The Nutty Professor and Ace Ventura 2: When Nature Calls) creates an off-the-wall comedy and a new martial arts genre that substantially alters dubbed action footage from a 1970's martial arts picture with a brand new twist in the story line and altered dialogue. The story follows The Chosen One (Oedekerk) as he seeks to avenge the death of his parents at the hands of the evil and seemingly indestructible kung fu legend, Master Pain.
Customer Reviews:
You're going to think you won't like it, but YOU WILL..........2007-06-27
This movie was loaned to me, and the only reason I ever put it in the DVD player was so I could watch enough to return it. A martial arts movie spoof? No thanks. But I was completely in weeds on this one, and it stands now as one of my favorite goofy comedies. You don't have to have even seen a martial arts film or be into the numerous spoofs that are always being released. This movie is funny as a stand alone experience, and even the special features are a hoot. You won't think you want to see this, but if you like comedies in general you'll enjoy this wacky movie.
Funniest Kung Fu Spoof I've Ever Seen.......2007-05-01
This is the funniest Kung Fu spoof I've seen, and that includes the fact I've seen the entire Kung Faux series. Kung Faux doesn't have ANYTHING on this!
This guy bought a kung fu flick and then inserted himself via blue screen (though nowadays they use green screens) technology and redubbed and massacred the entire thing until it became a comedy. And it draws on every single kung fu cliche imaginable; I'm quite a fan of kung fu movies and know even great kung fu movies tend to have cliches. The more into kung fu flicks, the funnier you'll think it is, as in this case familiarity breeds not contempt but laughter. I had to actually pause it several times I was laughing so hard. IMHO even every Stephen Chow flick pales in comparison to the humor factor inherit in this movie...Chow's flicks are meant to have humorous elements, but are not outright spoofs as this movie. Buy this for the kung fu enthusiast in your life (even if its yourself), you will not* regret it!
a real classic for me.......2007-04-01
this movie is silly and random. but i really love that. so if your like me then buy this movie
Some spoofs get it right, and this is one of them..........2006-12-12
If you don't like this movie then simply turn it off, it's not your speed. If you're a fan of films like `Scary Movie' or better yet `Monty Python' then this is a movie for you. Dubbing himself into a 1976 Hong Kong film, Steve Oedekerk gives us one hilarious acid trip of a film complete with quirky dialog and hilarious special effects. Spoofing everything that makes classic Kung Fu films so funny in the first place and adding a touch of modern cinema like a Matrix fighting cow, `Kung Pow! Enter the Fist' delivers laugh after laugh after laugh. So little tonguey may be ridiculous, but renaming the villain Betty was a classic stroke of genius!
Kung Pow is powerfully funny.......2006-12-12
I'm so happy to see all the great reviews for this film. These peeps have great taste and an even greater sense of humor. In a day and age where a movie is considered a hit if it provides two or three laughs, this movie is so refreshing. "Kung Pow" had me laughing from the beginning, the baby roll, to the end, THE FRENCH!!!! I'm not sure if I've ever seen a comedy that had me holding my sides because they hurt from laughter, trying to catch my breath before the next "bit" (which was usually only a few seconds) and almost pissing in my pants. When I saw the movie the 1st time, the theater was almost empty, but you couldn't tell from my laughter. I really embarrassed my dad. I have very few comedies in my DVD collection. That is because most of them have diminishing value, with each viewing the movie is less funny. "Kung Pow!" is the exception to that rule. I've seen it several times and have laughed as much as I did when I 1st saw it. The reason I am writing this is because a few moments ago several scenes from the movie popped into my head, "Call me Betty" and "I'm eeeevvvviiilll, so evil!" and seeing Taco Bell in the village (maybe that's the prob with Taco Bell, they're still using the ingredients they had back then, LOL!). No other comedy has done that, pop up for no reason and get me laughing all over again. Now that I wrote my review, I'm going to buy the film. I wish Steve would do another film like this. One last thing, unlike other films, the outtakes were actually funny as well. Okay weee weee weee folks!

A spiky animation style and cowboy yodelling give Home on the Range some charisma. A trio of cows--Maggie (voiced by Roseanne, She-Devil), Mrs. Calloway (Judi Dench, Iris), and Grace (Jennifer Tilly, Bound)--hit the high prairie to track down a cattle rustler named Alameda Slim (Randy Quaid, Kingpin) in hopes that the reward money will save their farm. With the aid of Buck, a horse with heroic ambitions (Cuba Gooding Jr., Jerry Maguire), the bovine avengers track the villain to his lair and save the day, to the accompaniment of tunes warbled by k.d. lang, Bonnie Raitt, and Tim McGraw. These songs--composed by Alan Menken (who wrote the music for The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast)--are the movie's strongest element; the characters are largely trumped up to fit a number of weak jokes that reference current pop culture, thus rupturing the movie's Old West world. Still, it looks nifty. --Bret Fetzer
Description
Round up the family and get ready for a whole lotta fun with Disney's hilarious animated comedy HOME ON THE RANGE. It's a "total joy," raves Gene Shalit, The Today Show. When a greedy outlaw schemes to take possession of the "Patch Of Heaven" dairy farm, three determined cows, a karate-kicking stallion named Buck, and a colorful coral of critters join forces to save their home. The stakes are sky high as this unlikely animal alliance risks their hides and match wits with a mysterious band of bad guys. Experience Disney's new moo-vie adventure with spectacular bonus features, stunning animation, and original songs performed by k.d. lang, Bonnie Raitt, Tim McGraw, and The Beu Sisters and written by the Academy Award(R)-winning composer of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and ALADDIN. It's "good fun for the whole family," declares Leonard Maltin.
Customer Reviews:
My kids love it!.......2007-06-29
I don't understand the bad reviews. My 3 kids have watched this over and over. The story involves trains, horses and cows--and lots of laughs. Maggie only farts once or twice, and it is to communicate with the pigs--so what's the big deal.
My kids won't watch the sappy disney love stories like bambi, hercules, peter pan, cinderella, or even snow white---but you get their attention with farms, trains, and cowboys!
Worst. Disney. Animated. Feature. EVER........2007-06-15
HOME ON THE RANGE is rock-bottom Disney animation. It's amazing to believe the studio that produced memorable classics could turn out a movie as bad as this (yes, it's worse than HERCULES and TREASURE PLANET). The wire-thin storyline, which involves barnyard animals on the trail of an outlaw who can hypnotize animals by singing (huh?) is needlessly stretched out for 76 minutes (which is 70 minutes too long) with forced, unfunny gags, frantic but lifeless sequences and lame characterizations. The animation, usually a high point in a Disney feature, is both pedestrian and unappealing to look at. Alan Menken supplies the music, but like the movie, his tunes are banal, insepid, and unappealing, even weaker than his work for HERCULES. Failed Disney cartoons don't have to be this horrific; case in point: THE BLACK CAULDRON and ATLANTIS-THE LOST EMPIRE fell short financially and were flawed, but both movies made an attempt to be something more complex and adult-oriented than typical Disney fare (I actually liked both of those films). This film, on the other hand, is a big step backward, and the hectic, pedestrian execution ultimately cripples it. It's disheartening that this may be the last traditionally animated feature we may see from Disney, and even more unfortunate that they chose to go out with a flop as insidious as this. Uncle Walt would surely turn over in his grave if he found out his studio ever produced this film.
Love It!.......2007-06-13
This is a great movie! Roseanne ought to do more cartoons! Who would have thought she be so good? My son can't watch it enough. He loves the cows and the cowboys. I love when the sarcastic goat calls the little piglets "bacon bits". Too funny!
Hilarious.......2007-04-28
Honestly, I have no idea why this movie is getting so many bad reviews. I loved this movie. Sure it's unrealistic, what kids movie isn't? Oh, and they couldn't have found anyone better than Roseanne to do the voice for Maggie, she fit the part perfectly! Don't listen to the reviews, give the movie a chance, you'll be glad you did.
Bad Disney.......2007-03-15
You'd think a Disney movie should be safe to share with kids, but this movie has pretty much non-stop senseless violence. It was supposed to be funny, but it definitely was not. Just mean spirited. Shame on Disney for this movie.

L'age D'or.......2007-06-20
The mesmerizing "L'Age D'Or," a collaboration between young Spanish surrealists Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dalí, contains no traditional plot but instead a series of striking dream-like images: a cow on a woman's bed, a large, formal delegation arriving on a barren island for no apparent reason, a vision of fully bedecked cardinals arrayed there on a craggy rock, and amidst all the pomp, a couple rolling around lustfully in the dirt. Billed as a "madman's dream," the film became a scandal, reviled in particular by the emerging Fascist movement. Today, it's revered as a cinematic landmark, skewering what Buñuel saw as oppressive, outmoded societal forces. Pure gold!
Luis Bunuel's L'Age d'Or.......2007-02-09
Old film with the best of visions from Salvador Dali. Softly erotic.
The best off scenes was with the cow in the bed. Because then was very good music made by the cow bels, it was very inovative.
Buñuel, with characteristic perversity, intensified his attack on bourgeois sensibilities..........2006-12-17
Buñuel was one of the greatest of all filmmakers... He expressed a uniquely personal vision of the world through a remarkably self-effacing cinematic style, producing a body of work unparalleled in its wealth of meaning and its ability to provoke and disturb...
The film concerns a couple constantly frustrated by Church and Establishment niceties, as well as their own sexual guilt...
Such plot is structured according to the irrational dream-logic of fear and desire, starting with a 'documentary' on scorpions and working through a series of darkly comic, loosely connected scenes... The film climaxes in outrageous blasphemy, equating the meek figure of Christ with a participant in a murderous orgy in De Sade's 120 Days of Sodom... Unsurprisingly, the work was widely banned...
"In Christian tradition, the Golden Age is identified with Eden." (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia), .......2006-10-17
I saw "L'Âge d'or" ("Age of Gold") last week (twice, the second time with the commentary) and I am absolutely fascinated by it. As much as "Un chien andalou", Bunuel's first movie (1929) was equally Dali's and his, "L'Âge d'or" which is a sequel to "Un chien andalou" is all Bunuel's even with Dali credited for writing. All Bunuel's favorite themes and subjects have been stored in this relatively short (62 minutes) but still shocking and amazingly sensational film. And as all Bunuel's movies it is a great fun to watch. I think the closest to "L'Âge d'or" is his later masterpiece, "Le Fantôme de la liberté" (1974), another excellent collection of satirical vignettes, dark and comical.
The irony starts in the title of the movie - In the ancient mythology, the Golden Age emphasized the idea of original peacefulness, innocence and harmony in all of nature, including human society. In Christian tradition, the Golden Age is identified with Eden but in the Bunuel's paradise, there is no harmony or happiness and innocent are frustrated and rebellious by all kinds of obstacles, social and religious that prevent them from fulfilling their desire for each other ((favorite Bunuel's subject that he would explore over and over in his following films). There are many disturbing and shockingly violent images in the paradise created by Bunuel's fantasy; one is Lya Lys's face when she is sucking on the marble toe of the Greek goddess's statue desperately waiting for her beloved with whom she is never able to be together. It is agony and ecstasy which have not been matched on the screen since. The frustration and anger that always go together with Bunuel's unique humor culminate in the final attack on the organized religion of such vicious and darkly comical power, that the toothless and harmless "Da Vinci Code" could only dream about. The last episode contains the long quote from the infamous "120 Days of Sodom" by Marquise de Sade and the scandal as well as the dark humor is in the way some characters are presented in the scene. No surprise that the movie was banned for over fifty years. Made over 70 years ago, "L'Âge d'or" is still deliciously fresh, completely realized, outstanding work of one of the best and mysterious Masters of the Art of Cinema.
4.5/5
Outstanding.......2006-01-11
Although L'Age D'Or is around three times as long as Bunuel and Dali's earlier film, Un Chien Andalou, I find this almost three times as entertaining as well. That's not to say Un Chien Andalou is boring either, L'Age D'Or is simply a brilliant work of cinematic surrealism. It wasn't nearly as provocative as I expected, except for a few scenes, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. A must-see for those interested in surrealism and classic or cult cinema.
As for the actual dvd...I paid $25 for it, and although it was worth it, I feel Kino could have provided better packaging at the very least. Worth it either way, though.

This generic sex comedy--about a guy who can't decide whether or not to marry his girlfriend because he's still obsessed with a girl he saw in an airport when he was a teenager--really has only one thing to recommend it: Ryan Reynolds (Coming Soon, Van Wilder). Reynolds plays the main character's horndog friend who becomes convinced he's gay, and while much of his material is of dubious taste and quality, Reynolds has a mixture of ironic detachment and actor commitment that makes the most of his role. Everyone else--Jerry O'Connell (as the obsessed guy), Bridgette L. Wilson (as his understandably frustrated girlfriend), Ron Livingston, Bill Bellamy, and Alyssa Milano--have their moments, but the script doesn't offer them much to work with. When it isn't drowning in clichés about men and women, it's trying way too hard to be "over the top." --Bret Fetzer
Customer Reviews:
A comedy worth watching!.......2007-05-06
"Buying the Cow" is a very cute and funny film. I'd say that its charm is that the plot captures the humor, innocence and inevitable emotional crossroads of romantic relationships. There is at least one minor plot twist involving Ryan Reynolds' character, Mike, that'll keep you laughing for days! The major plot twist involving Jerry O'Connell's character, David, was predicable, but endearing and welcome. Today's films seem to ignore the audience's expectation of "conflict followed by resolution." But, predictable or not, what's wrong with a little heart warming resolution now and then? This film delivers the goods on the hoof!
Taking the plunge - Biting The Bullet - Tying the Knot - Buying the Cow.......2007-01-06
This movie asks the question: "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?" David (Jerry O'Connell) finds himself under increasing pressure to take the final plunge with his long time girlfriend (Bridgitte Wilson) after his best buddy Tyler becomes engaged. This news wreacks havoc on David's life as he tries to find the answer to the question the movie asks.
This movie is funny, very funny at times and also at times quite stupid, but it is good quality entertainment nonetheless. Ryan Reynolds steals the show unsurprisingly, as Mike, a freind to David and Tyler who is trying to figure out his own problems where he fits in in the world. A scene where he wakes up in a strangers bed after a hugely intoxicating night is absolutely hillarious...
I bought this movie because I am a fan of the young cast, especially Reynolds and also because it is directed by Walt Becker, the same guy who gave us Van Wilder. Fans of that movie will love this, as will all fans of Reynolds and Jerry O'Connell. Anyone else may find it to be 'not their kinda movie'.
(:D) ....ok.......2006-06-11
This movie is sooo funny. Some of the parts will seriously have you rolling. Ryan Reynolds is hilarious and a complete stud!
Funny movie.......2006-03-16
It's a funny movie, and without going in to too much detail I will say, while Alyssa Milano was quite gorgeous, I am very angry the scenes in the menu and on the back of the DVD apparently never actually happen.
Other than that, great movie. Acting is decent, movie is hilarious, the plot is kinda ... weak, but still good.
Comedic but too sexual.......2006-03-05
This movie was very comedic but too sexual for my taste.
The plot was simple. Girl gives guy ultimatuem. Guy trys to find old crush he never met. Girl and Guy get back together but then Guy finally meets old crush and so they live happily ever after.
My fave scene had to be the one with all the dates at the same time. I couldn't help but die laughing. The cast was excellent and there was definately some chemistry between Alyssa and Jerry that should've been explored.

Teen pop music stars Aly and AJ make their movie debut as two rich and very spoiled teenage girls who experience a radical change in perspective in the Disney Channel original movie Cow Belles. Courtney (Amanda Michalka) and Taylor Callum (Alyson Michalka) have been well provided for by their dairy owning father Reed (Jack Coleman), but have become obsessed with fashion and societal image and lack compassion for anyone but themselves. When the girls' selfish absorption gets out of hand and leads to a kitchen fire, their father demands that they spend the summer working in the company dairy, hoping to instill in them a sense of responsibility and duty. The initially resentful girls quickly find themselves in a very uncomfortable predicament when the dairy unexpectedly runs out of funds while their father is out of the country. Hopelessly at odds with one another regarding the appropriate action and even their own levels of responsibility, the sisters are forced to grow up in a hurry and end up learning more about compassion and responsibility than their father could have ever imagined. Aly and AJ deliver a believable portrayal of stereotypical spoiled rich girls and their hit song "On the Ride" serves as appropriate background music during one scene of the movie. DVD extras include an exclusive alternate ending; a brief behind the scenes featurette in which Aly and AJ comment on their characters, wardrobes and stunts; and two music videos: "On the Ride" and "Rush." (Ages 7 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

Not As Erotic As It Should Have Been.......2007-07-03
The words `Cow Belles' and Alyson Michalka invokes fantasies her in sexy milk maid outfits and rolling in the hay.
Unfortunately `Cow Belles' chooses not to use any of Alyson's resources and falls flat as a boring failure. There are really not entertaining aspects to this film, which is an accomplishment since it starred Alyson Michalka.
The Plot: Aly and AJ Michalka come across like Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie in `The Simple Life' as pop tarts in a small farming community. Their single father the richest man in town owns the local pasteurization plant.
The girls think it will be fun to work at the plant during their father's overseas vacation. But their follies at the factory are not sexy or funny. Instead they are vindictively ridiculed by the envious employees. "Let's face it you and your sister are nothing but a couple of spoiled brats." Not something I recommend saying to your boss's daughters.
Within a matter of days the plant faces a bankruptcy from which it cannot recover. Putting the entire town out of work. It's up to the girls to save the whole town.
Sadly, none of this is entertaining in any way. Even a die hard Alyson fan like me was disappointed. You are warned.
Sweet Heart of a movie.......2007-01-27
This is a great movie for kids, I love the fact I can let My 9 year old watch it without having to worry about content. I enjoy the movie too, has a great message about work ethic, however I'm afraid that may be lost on alot of kids-but we can always hope!
typical junk from disney for material young girls.......2007-01-20
terrible and moronic screenplay and dialog, horrible acting, bad directing with formulaic sound track, mimicking every movement of all the characters just like disney's cartoons. don't why all the movement even expression on the faces of these terrible actors need music to exaggerate or emphasize it. these two young female actors need go back to performing art school to learn the basics or just quit. i strongly suggest that dmv files a complaint to disney for the low blow insult to their driving test people. what a big yawn with teary eyes, i just couldn't help it.
Okay..............2006-12-10
I really like Aly and AJ, but I wasn't too impressed when I saw this movie. It definitely wasn't the worst thing I've ever watched, but it's not worth buying or even watching twice...
Mediocre for TV Movie.......2006-09-06
Made for TV movies are just that, stuff that you would watch for free but you would never pay for.
The plot is simplistic. Aly and AJ are brats (a repetitive disney theme). Dad makes them work. Dad goes on a mysterious trip. While Dad is away, Dad's best friend robs the company, Aly and AJ cause all heck to break lose in the dairy plant - but true sisterhood triumphs over materialism and the desire for a hip prom dress.
The plot is simplistic, paint by numbers, and easy to anticipate. The dramatic conflict is typical superficial disney materialism. One girl loyal to dad seeks paternalistically to save all those really cute working class people - the other girl seeks to be hip for the prom. In the wider context of Disney material with these consistent superficial plots, its disappointing. After a while you have to wonder what message is being sent to your children from disney. According to disney, the height of teenage anxiety is a prom dress. With the greater issues of life - which include the US working class and the widening gap between US corporate rich and the working poor - the disney theme disappoints.
This movie is a well done, made for TV movie. Watch it for free. Dont buy it. But while you are at it, read to your children "Harvesting Hope: The Story of Cesar Chavez " - and explore the real struggle of farm workers.

Good old fashion animation! .......2007-06-27
I have loved this movie since I was a kid and it's good that it finally came out on DVD. Let's be real if you saw this animated version of "Jack and the Beanstalk" the Disney and other B versions are garbage! The songs are great and easy remember, it has a tween twist to it, so the language is not adult but rather closer to early adolescents. How often do you see a dog like Crosby that is so laid back and loyal? Crosby and Jack make this movie! So if you're sick of the current trends in Anime, take a look at an older version of Anime. There are plenty of entertaining songs for kids and lots of funny moments for the adults.
Anime Jack and the Giant.......2007-05-13
I remember watching this as a kid back I don't know how many years ago and seeing it from time to time on cable when you had decent quality programming. Now it's back again for those who remember this version on DVD. Kinda makes me wish that various films from this era (i.e. - Animalympics) would make it to DVD to be preserved in a better format.
The storyline is basic,....not hard to follow but it is wierd here and there. The evil mother / witch (Heccuba) is almost like a robot with that human trait. I'm giving a spolier when her giant, ogre-like son, Tulip crushes her at the end. Certain scense and the musical score are almost Pink Floydian (ummm....Pink Freudian???? lol) here and there....but overall it is a great watch for the fans of this film as well as those who are young at heart. I've noticed some other people making comments and indicating that really young kids shouldn't watch it for it may be....well...too trippy. But that is done out of pure discretion.
However,...if you have watched this....and are a fan of it....get it. You won't regret it.
Wonderful memories.......2007-05-13
I first saw this movie when my daughter was a young girl. I would rent it, and we would sit together and watch it over and over until I had to return it. Then one day I couldn't find the video. Years passed, and one day I happened to be thinking about it and decided to check Amazon. To my delight, they had it for sale. I purchased the DVD and surprised my daughter (now 24) with it. She was thrilled. We have both watched it several times already.
In a word, bizarre!.......2007-03-29
This film stayed with me since childhood, and like the reviewer below, I couldn't find any mention of it on IMDB, Amazon or anyplace else. And now here it is, in all its DVD goodness - and what a thoroughly strange film it is, too. I couldn't believe how much of it came back to me as I watched - it must be 25 years since I saw it last.
This is a very strange take on the standard tale. Jack is an impulsive, impudent kid who has to learn not to be selfish, with a very funny dog who fancies himself a military man. A creepy, possibly kiddie-fiddling musician with an electric organ tricks Jack into buying the magic beans, which grow overnight in a gorgeous sequence. The giant is a hulking beast called Tulip, and his mother is an evil, normal-sized witch who treats him so badly you almost feel sorry for him. There's an enchanted Princess, people turned to mice, a talking harp, a golden chicken, and some paper cut-out people...
The songs are mostly terrible, and yet weirdly compelling - especially the Pink Floyd-ish music for climbing the beanstalk and the ghostly wedding song. "Are you happyyyy?" Many sequences in the film are surreal, even psychedelic, and there's a strange undercurrent of Freudian unease in the relations between Jack and the Giant and their harsh, controlling mothers. The animation is pretty good, with some very nice backgrounds. The Princess has a proto-anime look to her.
I'm not sure I can recommend this film to kids or not, to be honest. It's weird and unsettling, and there's a terrible scene early on where Jack recieves a lengthy beating with a broom. Then again, kids don't pick up on a lot of stuff that raises adult eyebrows. For anybody who vaguely remembers it or is into funky kid-vids, it's a good party video. Parents, you might want to watch it first before showing it to the kids. But hey, it didn't freak me out. Much.
SPOILER WARNING: The image of the giant smashing his wicked, emasculating mother and finding only clockwork inside has haunted me for years.
The Jack In The Beanstalk We Remember!!!!!.......2007-03-24
I remembered this as Japanimation. This is the one from TV when we were kids in the 80's. The music and lyrics are what makes this movie so inticing. I remembered the giant's face from the cover and knew this was it!!! The mystical wedding scene where the princess is under a spell to marry the giant has memorable music with feeling. This is the Jack in the Beanstalk I want to introduce to my child and I can't wait to see it again myself. I can hear the music in my head already..."Are you happeeeeeee?" I really thought I'd never find this and I am so excited that I wrote this review so you would know that you have to have it!! I never write reviews, so know that I am serious. I love it so much that I want to share it with the world and the next generation.

Description
Sarah Lassez (Nowhere, The Blackout, Until the Night) delivers a star-making performance as Therese, an ass-kicking health inspector with a failed marriage, an on-going affair with a creepy televangelist, nymphomania, and an obsession with old kung-fu movies. Further complicating her life is a very questionable relationship with her brother Thierry (James Duval from The Doom Generation and Donnie Darko), a meat importer who may (or may not) have infected her with mad cow disease. Mad Cowgirl is practically impossible to describe, but it's a Narrative - Experimental - Art - Comedy - Horror - Tragedy - Kung Fu epic that features multiple languages, a flying guillotine, the old ultraviolence and Walter Koenig (Cmdr. Pavel Chekov) as a slimy sex-addicted preacher. Great Scott!

No middle ground here........2007-04-14
You are either going to love this movie or despise it. I really enjoyed it, but it's not for everyone. I'll spare you the plot summary since Amazon already has it, but I will tell you that words cannot describe this movie. The grindhouse influence on this movie makes Tarantino and Rodriguez's effort look like a mainstream blockbuster. This movie is basically a mind-trip through 70's kung-fu, sexploitation, and gore flicks with a modern-day headline thrown in to pull it all together. It's almost like Cronenberg decided to film an artsy homage to the grindhouse era. Sarah Lassez is a super talented actress (not to mention that she's SMOKING hot). If you're into trippy movies like Requiem for a Dream or Donnie Darko and you liked 70's grindhouse films, this is for you. However, the mainstream movie or horror viewer will likely hate this.
The most bizarre, unique film I've seen in a while..........2007-03-26
...and that is not a bad thing. I love the music, the actors, I have never seen a film quite like this one. A lot of things you would not expect to see, crazy, crazy, crazy, but it works. It's one of those you have to watch instead of reading about it.
Brilliant.......2006-12-15
Gregory Hatanaka's "Mad Cowgirl" represents the most visceral and explosive cinematic mind trip since Stanley Kubrick tossed Keir Dullea into the psychedelic vortex. Rarely has an experimental film come along like "Mad Cowgirl" that can take reckless and daring risks and earn a payback on its artistic gambling with a tenfold return. Viewers discovering "Mad Cowgirl" should install seatbelts on their sofas, because they are in for the ultimate wild ride.
LOVE Sarah Lassez!!.......2006-11-26
This girl's a one of a kind! her book "Psychic Junkie" is fantastic and her role in "Mad Cowgirl" is a out of this world. She is truly one of the best actresses of her generation who keeps just bellow the radar doing really interesting avant-garde work.

sing, hoot & howl with the sesame street animals.......2007-03-12
my little 22 month old grandson just loves the DVD over and above his baby einstein DVD's. I have seen an increase in his vocabulary. he has even learned to sing the song.
ONE OF OUR FAVORITES!!.......2006-12-28
My son has watched this dvd since he was a few months old. It has some of the oldy, but goldy songs from sesame street past. The songs and images are great because they use a variety of real images in daily life as well as the animals and big bird. My husband even commends this dvd as the songs are the kind that you just want to hum. GREAT PURCHASE!
Classic Sesame Street.......2006-06-08
Sing, Hoot and Howl is classic Sesame Street, educational and enjoyable. I remembered all the songs fondly from my childhood and I think it's still entertaining for kids today. Big Bird and friends meet together to sing their favorite animal songs. As a Sesame Street fan from way back, I remember not only listening to these songs, but learning from them. I learned about the kinds of jobs dogs can do and what animal babies are called ("Cows have calves and I bet you didn't know that elephants have calves too.") This show also encourages pride in one's self ("Proud to be a cow") and getting along with each other despite differences ("We Are All Earthlings.") It's great that these Sesame Street DVDs are being reissued now. I definitely recommend "Sing, Hoot and Howl" for kids and their parents to make Muppet Memories together.
Never gets old!.......2006-02-11
To my two year old son anyway. He absolutely loves this video. (and has since about 8 months old) He's equally entertained by the old grainy song segments from when I was a kid as he is by the newer muppet segments.
This is one of the few videos of his that I don't mind hearing over and over. Maybe because a lot of it's deja vu for me but mostly because the songs and skits are so cute and catchy.
I think this one will be a fav for quite a while.
Worth it for a few gems.......2005-05-08
I bought this DVD for "I'm a Hard-Working Dog", "I Love Being a Pig", and "Which Comes First (The Chicken or The Egg)", along with the grainy '70's video that I remember so fondly from childhood. As with the other Sesame Street videos, I wish they would just let those old clips stand on their own instead of feeling the need to pad them with some contrived Muppet scenario (this time it is a meeting of the "Sing, Hoot and Howl club". However, my 4 1/2 year old enjoys the DVD as a whole anyway.
