The husband (Michael Douglas) is a currency trader whose portfolio value is going right down the drain. The wife (Gwyneth Paltrow) is the heiress to a $100 million fortune. Here, it's easy to assume that Douglas has pulled off, as the title implies, a killing that nobody will ever pin on him. But this is the kind of glossy thriller (loosely inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's Dial M for Murder) that delights in disrupting your expectations, so it grabs your attention right up to the final scene. It's a bit too cold to really draw you in (hey, these are not very nice people we're dealing with here!), but with its able cast and stylish direction by Andrew Davis, this less-than-perfect murder thriller is still definitely worth a look. The widescreen Special Edition DVD includes audio commentary by Michael Douglas, Andrew Davis, and producer Peter McGregor Scott, an alternate ending deleted from the finished film, and sketches by the film's costume designer. --Jeff Shannon

This is a great movie - entertaining, full of twists and turns and is beautifully underplayed. Not excessive in its violence, but packed with intrigue and moments that had us scrunching the cushions and on the edge of our seats.

Michael Douglas is brilliantly cold and classy, Viggo Mortensen keeps you in a permanent quest to work out what he is thinking and what he will do next. Gwyneth Paltrow and David Suchet are superb in their respective roles of potential victim and suspicious police officer.

This is a great thriller, very loosely based on the classic "Dial M for Murder", and makes a great evening's viewing. If you like a good murder mystery, you will enjoy spending a couple of hours with this stylish and absorbing film.

Mistake to compare it to the Classic.......2007-01-02

The stock review on this movie told me that it was a loose remake of the Alfred Hitchcock Classic "Dial M For Murder." The promo also told me that it had a clever script and unexpected plot twists. So what do I spend my time doing as I watch the movie? Waiting to be caught off-guard by plot twists, and waiting to be impressed with a clever script. Well, I waited in vain. The better promo would have been; "This is an ok movie that stands on its own as a tense thiller." Had they said this, it would deserve ... um ... 4 stars.

This feeble remake presents nothing clever, nothing surprising and does not come close to the mastery of Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece.
Sheesh, this movie might as well have put up a subtitle that said "the Grace Kelly wannabe will grasp the meat-thermometer to 'unexpectedly' kill her attacker."
As for us being "surprised" that the attacker was not the playboy guy, I knew it wasn't the moment the almost-masked guy slipped into the parking garage and the cameraman hid his face from us. duh!
As for the clever script, Michael Douglas basically tells his wife that he's going to kill her. Gee, is that tension? No, it's just annoying to watch and wonder just how stupid this blond wife is supposed to be.
As for the movie being clever? Not when they claim that it's a remake of a Hitchcock masterpiece. Also, the plotting husband gives an unconvincing reason as to why the playboy can't just go kill her in the bathroom. The viewer feels like shouting "it's because this is a remake of a film where the wife is on the phone when she is attacked!" I feel like also quoting the fictional-fictional Jack Slater (in Arnold's Last Action Hero) saying his expected and corny line of "big mistake."

A big reason why "Dial M For Murder" remains a masterpiece, is that Hitchcock limited himself to basically one set, with very few exceptions. Even his cameo was masterfully slipped into that expensive "flat" (in the picture on the wall). (He did the same self-challenge in Rear Window and Lifeboat.) The 1954 wonder-work (Dial M For Murder) has a tight script and mesmerizing camera work which endure to this high-tech day as one of the best of the best by the best, and not easily "remade" by this ok film.

twisted.......2006-12-10

Michael Douglas is so convincing as a cold, calculating criminal/big business man, who hatches a scheme to do away with his cheating wife. Since the other man in the picture is also quite deviant, the plot gets complicated and things don't work out as planned. The result is an intelligent thriller that will draw you into the intrigue and keep you guessing as to what will happen next. Definitely the kind of movie that can be enjoyed again and again. Absolutely not a good choice for younger viewers though.

This movie is based on the play "Dial M for Murder." Contrary to popular belief, this is not a remake of the famous 1954 Alfred Hitchcock movie that was also based on this play.

In this movie, Wall Street businessman Steven Taylor (Michael Douglas) seems like a devoted and caring husband...He isn't.

His beautiful, rich, sophisticated, accomplished, and much younger wife Emily (Gwyneth Paltrow) seems like the perfect wife...She isn't.

And when Steven hires Emily's lover (Vitto Mortensen) to kill her, it seems like a perfect murder...It isn't.

In fact, nothing is what it seems to be in this sleek and stylish thriller filled with suspense and smart, sharp dialogue.

At each unexpected twist and turn in his "perfect" murder plot, Steven manages to improvise brilliantly. (The numerous twists in this movie are what keeps it interesting and suspenseful.)

Michael Douglas gives an extraordinary performance as the Wall Street wheeler-dealer Steven Taylor. Both Paltrow and Mortensen also give good, interesting performances.

The inside photograpy of the Taylors' luxurious apartment is beautiful. Actually, this entire movie is filmed quite well. The background music helps add to each scene.

I had problems with the movie's ending. I felt it was not of the same high calibre as the rest of the movie. But wait! There is an alternative ending that I thought was much more satisfying.

Finally, the DVD itself (Special Edition) is perfect in picture and sound quality. It has a few extras, the alternative ending (alluded too above), I felt, being the most interesting.

In conclusion, this is a sleek, sophisticated, and stylish movie that keeps you absorbed in it due to its numerous twists and turns!!

Much Better Than The Original....Except The Ending.......2006-05-05

Boy, here's one re-make I thought was far superior to the original ("Dial M For Murder," with Ray Milland, Grace Kelly and Bob Cummings.) In this film, the stars are Michael Douglas, Gwyneth Paltrow and Viggo Mortensen.

The best part of this film may not be the story, or the acting, both of which keep you glued to the screen, but the stylish photography and sets.. They look magnificent, mainly the apartment of the the two leads. I was constantly awed by how good this film looks. The DVD transfer is beautiful.

I also prefer the sequel because it has more twists and is complex enough to thoroughly enjoy every 3-4 years. Also fun are the short speeches each character gives on occasion, usually when they smugly think they have the upper hand. Each time that happens, their antagonist winds up going one up on them! There isn't much action in here but when it occurs, it's very intense.

The only thing that annoys me - unfortunately it's a big one - is the ending in which I don't believe justice totally prevailed. I can't wrote much more without spoiling it for those who have not seen this. One of the parties comes out looking like a 'an innocent victim" and that person was hardly a "saint." If all the parties had received just due, it would have been more satisfying and I would have rated this a '5' without hesitation.

If you can get past Jennifer Aniston's form-fitting wardrobe in a movie about a woman struggling to advance in her profession, this romantic comedy is a fair match with My Best Friend's Wedding. Both films feature conniving, self-centered heroines who undergo a transformation--Aniston presents a bogus fiancé (Jerry Maguire's Jay Mohr) to impress her advertising agency boss and gradually discovers a mutual attraction with the imposter. Both movies go off in delightfully unpredictable directions. Picture Perfect falls prey to occasional sitcom fluff, but it's a fine showcase for Aniston's comedic and dramatic attributes. Critics were mixed-to-harsh in reviews for this movie, perhaps because it's a bit derivative and poses slight challenge to Aniston, who proved her skill with light comedy as a principal cast member of TV's Friends sitcom. It's clear that Aniston is a fine comedian, and she shows that talent to advantage in Picture Perfect. Jennifer Aniston, Jay Mohr, Kevin Bacon, and others of note star in this delightful and consistently believable and interesting, twists and turns romantic-comedy/drama. This flick is perhaps what made Ms. Aniston more a "movie-star" than her sit-com character, and it is easy to see how she made the leap. Jenny not only plays a sexy and hot-to-trot corporate, rather shallow advertising exec-wannabe, but also a rather wholesome, down-to-earth, and deeply desiring (but not aware of it), "good girl" who only wants to be truly loved for who she really is.

Jay Mohr is equally as good because in this film, he doesn't play his usual smarmy, over the top "bad guy," but instead gives a low key but effective performance as a rather normal, photography and art loving, "good guy," who eventually falls head over heels for Jennifer during an elaborate scheme by the latter to "use" Jay to further her corporate ambitions.

Kevin Bacon is a fellow corporate riser who is both a good guy and a bad guy, good in that he eventually comes to see Jennifer as something more decent and deep than he thought, but bad so in the way he seems to use Jen in a casual sex way. During the movie, all the characters behave as real people, and all evolve, leading to a very pleasing, linear story that pulls heavily on all of our most cynical strings where "true love" and values in life are concerned.

Fast paced, with excellent performances and dialogue, and with pretty good insights into various NYC corporate characters and what makes them tick, this is one movie whose heart in the end is in the right place. Somewhat a modern day twist on 1960's Best Picture "The Apartment" (one of my top ten all time films), there's a truly special blend of comedy and drama, and we generally "care" for everyone here in the end. And the end, which I won't give away, is just about picture "perfect."

While the film does have some confusing elements at times, and seems to swell at times with a bit overly done melodrama, almost everyting else about it is a series of well done, well scripted, well directed scenes, with some pretty good and timely music as well. When I first saw this, I really didn't expect much, and am not really much of a fan of the main stars, but this one is a real winner from start to finish.

A Marvelously Mindless Chick Flick.......2007-01-21

Starring the Debbie Reynolds of our generation, PICTURE PERFECT tells the story of Kate Mosely (Jennifer Aniston), an advertising agency copywriter who finds true love while trying to advance her career.

Released in 1997, PICTURE PERFECT is far from deep and meaningful, but it does succeed in delivering an enjoyably mindless chick flick that is even more interesting to watch ten years after it was shown in theaters.

Featuring the trendy short skirts popularized by TV's Allie McBeal and the razor thin eye brows of the mid 1990s, PICTURE PERFECT looks dated ten years later but the story line is timeless. Girl meets and overlooks a diamond in the rough and then realizes he's the one -- after he's gone.

A great find late at night while flipping channels or for that secret stash of fun (but embarassing to own) girly films, PICTURE PERFECT is recommended for bored women looking for mindless entertainment.

Love this movie.......2006-07-25

I saw this movie a while ago, kind of forgot about it, and then saw it again and realized how much I loved it. Of course Jennifer Aniston is adorable, and the plot line is a little more original and different from the average romantic comedy. It's funny and definitely very sweet - I highly recommend.

The OTHER Jenny from the block........2006-06-12

Picture Perfect is about a woman who hires a guy to pretend to be her boyfriend so she can seem more desirable to the guy she REALLY wants. Only she ends up falling in love with the guy for hire as she realizes how great he is and how un-great the object of her affection (no pun intended) is. Sound familiar? Maybe that's because Debra Messing and company recycled this same storyline for The Wedding Date. But there's no question Aniston does it better.

This remains my favorite JA movie. She's playing a slight variation of her "Rachel" character from Friends, but who cares? The movie is still fun to watch, and so is Jennifer Aniston, who has become very endearing to me over the past few years.

I saw this film a while back, and I loved it so much I bought it on dvd. It has a great storyline and great acting. I am a fan of jenifer aniston as well as jay mohr so this film was great for me. I can truely say its one of my favorite films.

The Perfect Man is about a girl, Holly Hamilton (Hillary Duff), her mother, Jean Hamilton (Heather Locklear). The main idea that happens is well, the Hamilton family moves around a lot. Not because they don't like where they are, it's because when-ever Jean (Locklear) doesn't find the perfect man she ends up hooking up with some loser, "some guy that isn't even good enough to mop the floors" (said by Hillary Duff in the movie) and when it doesn't work out because it basically never works out they pack up and move again. Holly (Duff) is getting sick of moving around and doesn't want to anymore. So when she meets her new friend's uncle, she makes up a man based on her friend's uncle that sends her flowers, notes, presents and more, but when she finally makes the plan to have her meet him they can't meet because she sent her mom a picture of the secret admirer and he has no idea that this happening.

I think this is a good movie because I like things that are funny and heartwarming and this id that kind of movie. I also think it is exciting because you never know what Holly (Duff) is going to do to trick her mother next.

I would recommend this movie for kids about 8 to adult. It is the kind of movie that any age girl would like to watch. So, watch this movie and learn how to be a good member of your' family.

It's a nice movie for the whole family. It has some comedy, it's sensible teaches a lesson and it's a movie that the whole family can see together.
Hilary Duff actes very good and makes a very good match of mother and daughter with Heather Locklear. The 3 girls(duff, locklear and sister) make a nice litte family.

All of you Hillary duff haters out there you should watch this movie because it will change your mind about her. She is very cute and good in this movie and her acting has really grown since her last movie which I don't remember what that movie was called. Hillary Duff is very charming in this movie and so is Heather Lockleer who is very cute and she is pretty because she is married to the Bon Jovi. I put this movie on my Chrismas list for the DVD because I have only seen it once on HBO at Katie's birthday party last May. I think there were alot of funny lines in this movie that I will be qouting for a long time to come and Hillary Duff's costumes and Heather's hair were all fun to watch and look at. Anyway all in all this movie was cute and funny and Hilary Duff is a fantastic actress too. The Perfect Man is the PERFECT movie for anyone who likes to laugh and watch funny movies.

My uncle of all people was the one that recommended this movie to me. At first I was skeptical but I rented it and loved it! Usually this type of movie is considered a "chick flick" but I think this particular movie caters to both men and women. It is a very romantic and tastefully done movie. I recently purchased the movie and sent it to my uncle as a "thank you" gift and he couldn't be happier.

I love Robert Urich, so anything with him starrring in it is great! He really was a great actor, and I was extremely sad when he lost his battle with cancer a few years back.
A Perfect Stranger is a beautiful love story written in typical Danielle Steele fashion. You cry and hurt for those involved, but you know you're going to get a happy ending, so it's all worth it!

The story line is beautiful. The acting is excellent. These two really "click." I first saw it on television and now I have ordered it so that I can see it again and again. I love the travel between the cities of New York and San Francisco. It is just plain WONDERFUL. Whoever put it together - thank you!

I have owned this set for a while now and I must say I am glade I put the money down.
This anime is packed full of emotion, but you need to remove the distractions and pay attention, you can miss a lot of things.
when you finish this show keep this in mind... the first season is 25 episodes long, and the 26th episode is the first episode of the second season. the second season was abandoned due to a major lack of money. I have done some searching and this is what I have found, the money brought in by DVD sales of the show raised enough money for the company to make a movie, the Love Hina Christmas Movie. this movie follows the story further extending it. the money the company raised from this movie raised the funds for the next installment, Love Hina spring movie treating the Christmas movie like a previous episode and going from there. The spring movie raised enough money that the company finished off love hina with a series called Love Hina Again! Love Hina Again is three episodes long and ends the series in a fast but great way.
It is very important that if you wish to finish the series after the perfect collection you need to watch them in this order, Christmas movie, Spring movie, then Love Hina Agian. They follow each other story wise and if you don't you will be confused and mad.

If you're looking for a anime to laugh at, this one if for you. I first started off reading the Manga, and thought of getting the series on dvd since I fell inlove with it. I cant stop watching. Its soooo funny. Although, I have to admit, I'd rather read then watch.

Shock and awe.......2007-02-10

I loved this series as a manga and thought the DVD would live up to the reputation. Indeed it did and I only had a few issues with it.
For one they gave Mitsune some odd southern accent, thankfully original jap voices and subs fixed that. Also the episodes seem slightly out of order and changed a bit. But other than that this is an excellent investment, Keitaro is oddly comparable to Kintaro from the series Golden boy, though Kietaro is only perverted by accident (well mostly)

Either way I would reccomend picking this up, no anime collection can be complete without it.

A surprisingly good story.......2006-06-21

I typically dislike these sort of fanservicey-plot-thin romps, but I have to say Love Hina is probably a standout in this category. Of course, there isn't really much competition to be the best of this category, but I wouldn't be ashamed to say I really like this series. True, it has a little too much obvious fanservice for my tastes, but all the same, it's a really great cast of likeable characters and a nice story. The manga expands on the story more, but it has even more fanservice then the anime.

The story and plot synopsis can be found all of the internet, so I won't go into that here. Basically what I will say is the show succeeds as a comedy because it is very funny, but a surprise is that's it's also a surprisingly well done romance story as well. It isn't always top notch but it is definitely entertaining the whole way through, and when it's over, you'll be almost definitely left with an imprint in your mind of the show's likeable characters and enjoyable plotlines. There are also some geniunely well done moments, like when Keitaro (main character) first visits Toudai when he believes to have failed his exams.

Perhaps it's not a masterpiece of storytelling, but I believe that despite it's faults it's a worthwhile series, mostly because of it's great cast.

Good anime with some overdone fanservice.......2006-06-21

I usually don't like these kind of animes, for good reason, but I wouldn't call this show a fanservicey-harem show like so many others do, simply because I don't think it does the show justice. It's true I've watched other animes with deeper plots, more emotional climaxes, intelligent writing, etc. but somehow this series is still a favourite of mine and many others. It's a phenomenon that I can't explain, but I hope that all the other viewers won't view this show with the bias I originally had when viewing it. It's been 6 long years and Love Hina is still popular, and there is a reason for that.

Another somebody done somebody wrong story.......2006-04-03

This is another love story that is just OK. I can't really decide what went wrong for me, but I know that the stars of this movie are much better actors than this. Piper moves across country with her boyfriend (Artie Lange). She gave up family, a job, etc., for him. What happens? He decides to leave her and Piper is left heart broken. Piper moves on and marries someone else. Artie is crushed that Piper has married because the longer he is away from her, he realizes that he really can't live without her. Piper divorces 3 years later and their friendship rekindles. Will the 2nd time around be better than the first time around?
