4 out of 5 stars item was great and just what i wanted but it was a little slow getting here.......2007-05-24

the dvd that i orded was just what i wanted and works perfectly. i am really happy with using Amazon and will use them again when shopping on line.

the only thing is that it took ages for it to get here. probably because I live in Australia.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful .......2007-03-09

If you are looking for a great deal on a wonderful bad movie, this is for you! I'm not a movie-watcher, let alone a movie-buyer, but I saw this one and had to have it. It is hilarious! And well worth the $4 I paid on Amazon's Marketplace.

5 out of 5 stars This goes on my shelf next to "Mommie Dearest" and "The Worst Witch".......2005-10-04

I have to say I was shocked when this came to DVD. I LOVED the TV movie and watched my VHS countless times. This is so well done and the camp value is HIGH. Please watch this movie. I wish we had more television like this. This movie is also great for film students to study. You can tell how they work this story around a limited budget. Every outdoor scene is filmed in the winter at seemingly the same time, the director uses a lot of stairs maybe indicating Martha's ascent. Cybill was robbed at Emmy time.

4 out of 5 stars The real martha.......2005-09-26

I thought it was a good movie to watch. I can almost imagine she was really the way the actress played her. It was fun to see her rise to the height of the business world and feel sad when things went wrong. She really showed for a women in the home entertaining business to get ahead, you need to do whatever it takes. Believe me she sacrificed everything to get where she is today.

1 out of 5 stars It's not a good thing.......2004-12-11

Unveils all the skeletons in Martha Stewart's closet. The acting here is fairly competent, however I don't find Ms. Stewart very interesting so I can't recommend this. Watch it for yourself and decide. But remember, you won't find this dvd on the shelves of her beloved K-Mart!

2 out of 5 stars How much effort does it take to find ecstasy?.......2005-03-01

Fair, at best.

This runs under 80 minutes, a good 10 from a scene with a nurse dancing on a table, while the narrator blah-blah-blahs about how twisted and sado-masochistic these broads are. Are they really maniacs, and do they find ecstasy?

Half the time, I was saying to myself "when are these sado-masochistic broads going to show some gory, unadulterated action?" The movie has its moments, but the narrator spells way to much out, a little too much telling and not enough showing (bordering at insulting).

No, this isn't as good as "Rabid Grannies," but okay for a cheap thrill. It's not as gory as one would hope, but not bone-dry for that matter.

No, these nurses did not find ecstasy because even the annyoing narrator admits that they are bored. I admit, I was bored too.

5 out of 5 stars Maniac Nurses Invade Your TV!!!.......2004-09-24

This movie takes alot of flack. In my opinion, anyone who would trash this flick has no right watching a movie entitled "Maniac Nurses Find Ecstacy" in the first place...I mean, what do you expect???

This is not high art by any stretch, this is trash cinema at its worst, and it is all the better for it! There is copious amounts of nudity, gore, incest, lesbianism, women with guns, bad acting, atrocious dubbing, a paper thin plot, SM, and no point whatsoever! It is everything I had hoped this movie would be!

It is...Maniac Nurses Find Ecstacy!!!

If you are a fan of truly bad cinema, this is the movie for you! There is no way that this movie was ever meant to be taken seriously, and it really has to be seen to be believed...I couldn't stop laughing!

The DVD has very few extras, with only a handful of trailers and a few of the typical Troma adds. But it is the movie that counts. Depending on you tastes, Maniac Nurses is either a 0/5, or a perfect 5...you can see what side of the arena I'm on!

Love it or hate it, there is really nothing else quite like it.

2 out of 5 stars Another case where the title is better than the movie........2003-07-01

The previous (OBVIOUSLY tongue in cheek.) 5 star review from "Terrance and Phillip" should serve to warn viewers of the potential harm that prolonged exposure to intestinal gas can do to one's brain cells. That said, this could possibly be the target audience the makers (Or maybe "hacks" would be more apt, given the subject matter) of MANIAC NURSES FIND ECSTASY had in mind.
Also known as BLOODSUCKING FREAKS 2, this Troma release bears no similarity to the "classic" gorefest that became the #2 cult film of all time (behind ROCKY HORROR). However, any movie that opens with a dedication to former adult movie queen Traci Lords can't be a complete write-off.
Written, Produced and Directed by Leon Paul De Bruyn, hiding behind the twin psueudonyms of Leon P. Howard and Harry M. Love; MANIAC NURSES FIND ECSTASY features a linking narrative introducing a slum known as Women's Hell USA, in which the viewer is welcomed to come on "a journey into sickness and sex and violence". The three compulsory main ingredients for any half decent schlockfest.
Women's Hell is run by the sadistic clinical director Ilsa (Haini Brown). Her payroll includes a bevy of busty beauties with an insatiable lust for blood, sex and violence of the most sadistic kind. One early such anecdote features the nurses chasing down a hapless couple in their ambulance/ makeshift morgue; blowing off the guy's head with a shotgun in classic DAWN OF THE DEAD fashion; then kidnapping his girlfriend and taking her back to the clinic for a quick bondage session and a literal roasting in the sauna.
Another of the nurses, Sabrina (Susanna Mackay) a sultry blond; happens to be obsessed with comic books featuring Nazis and serial killers such as Ed Gein: who; as anyone who knows anything about horror movies will know, was the inspiration for TCM's Leatherface. Of course, all this pulp horror feeds her insatiable appetite for pure unadulterated sadism- especially in a memorably dumb sequence where the culprits' names flash below the screen; which given the aforementioned target audience may actually have been quite a clever idea.
Also of note is an extended mumbo-jumbo narrative arrangement featuring a '70s style hypnosis device and topless dancing. Sure, bare breasts always fare well in this genre, but I was left wondering what the point was.
Basically if you want to spend over an hour watching a group of sexy, psychotic neo-Nazi lesbians massacring people and "exploring perversity to its limits" as the narrator puts it; MANIAC NURSES ought to be your kind of movie. A special highlight is the blackly funny scene where a guy gets his foot severed with razor wire (You have to see it for yourself). And beyond this roiling sea of bubbling blood and bouncy boobies comes a bravura finale (that is, if your stomach's still up to it) where sultry vixen Sabrina goes on a casual rampage clad in sexy lingerie; which takes a good 10 minutes for her to complete- but I'd imagine climbing two flights of stairs while wearing heels wouldn't be the most comfortable way of doing it. What's wrong with good ol' unsexy tennis shoes?
But what I found most amusing is the fact that ODE TO JOY plays during the end credits! MANIAC NURSES isn't quite up there with Troma classics like TOXIC AVENGER and BLOODSUCKING FREAKS; but its still far superior to some of their lesser efforts like SURF NAZIS MUST DIE and FEMME FONTAINE. Taken purely as a braindead trash movie, MANIAC NURSES is still worth the time of Troma devotees and curious BLOODSUCKING FREAKS fans; though it's lacking the visceral impact and warped comic genius of Joel Reed's cult classic.

4 out of 5 stars So bad it's hilarious.......2002-03-06

This movie is a bad one, make no mistake about it, but bad in such a way that it seems exceptionally funny. This is the kind of movie that you invite friends over to watch, to have a few beers with, and to gather around and take turns making jokes about, laughing at the movie every chance you get.

This is a cult movie in this respect, make no mistake about it. Like most such movies, it is not for everyone's taste. However, if you want to watch something that you can laugh at freely this is the perfect movie for you.

Among the highlights are a paper-thin plot, terrible acting by all concerned, a corny sounding narrator, plenty of skin, and a lot of gratuitous violence. In other words, this is very nearly the perfect movie for me. It is also almost perfect as silly entertainment. I recommend this to all.

1 out of 5 stars this is piece of junk!.......2001-04-09

After viewing this movie I swear that I would never watch another B movie. The special effects (if you can call special effects) are fake, and the women in there are ugly and unattractive. The plot is terrible and the acting is aweful. And the funniest thing is there's a narrator telling you the story, it's like if the actresses don't know how to talk, (in fact, the dialogues of the movie is one of the worst ever). I can't belief myself that i waste my money on this worthless trash. If i can destroy every copy of this movie i would!

4 out of 5 stars Peter's Story.......2007-04-23

"Eden's Curve"

Peter's Story

Amos Lassen and Cinema Pride

"Eden's Curve" (WaterBearer) is the story of Peter (Sam Levine), an eighteen year old boy who is on a journey of self discovery while studying at an all male university in the South. His roommate, Joe and his roommate's girlfriend, Bess help him to learn more about himself and as he learns his values become crushed by those who love him. He also learns that he cannot do anything without relying on the strength of strangers and the decisions that he makes as he begins to discover himself will affect him his entire life.
The beautiful style of the film remains in the memory long after the movie is over. The movie itself is based on true happenings at a backwoods Virginia University in the early 1970's and beautifully conveys both the time and the spirit. The framework of the action is a bisexual ménage-a-trois and the coming-of-age of a young college student. Yet there are other themes as well--identity, commitment, and the extent of romanticism. Sam Levine plays the boy who is the paragon of innocence--a blank page that is waiting to be written upon.
The film concentrates on the beautiful landscape of Virginia and the subjects of longing and desire come across as narration as opposed to characterization.
We watch as Peter's tender love becomes jealousy and rage and the ethereal quality of the movie contributes heavily to the overall quality. What we get is a refreshing view of what mainstream America gets from the people who live there and not the standard representation of [...] life. We see life with all of its challenges and its ups and downs. All of this presented as one youth enters adulthood. Imagination, imagery, and reflection play heavy roles in this film and they hit us hard and raise our spirits simultaneously.
I have heard it said that this is a depressing film; that there is no compassion, no thoughtful revelation and no redemption. I disagree with this completely but then I suppose the way one lives influences the interpretation of what I consider a beautiful film. The believability of the cast enhances the quality of the film. For someone to discredit a film like this is a grave injustice. Because one has to think and feel the movie makes it that much more realistic and personal. The emotion is touching and it sets the tone in the opening and never lets go. The story is totally believable. Everything about the film is done with the utmost taste; especially the nudity and the issues that are dealt with by the characters are real and genuine. The rawness of the photography matches the storyline and the story is certainly sad but exceptionally honest. The atmosphere of an earlier time is completely captured and the sexual and substance exploration was not decadent but beautifully handled. What especially stood out to me was the totally non-stereotypical approach to [...] life. It is natural and it dealt with difficult issues with the utmost of reverence.

2 out of 5 stars Could have been.......2005-10-26

Movie has potential but does not deliver. All the ingriedients are there but the sum total is far less than ithe piecies. I would not recommend thsi as a new purchase to anyone. Okay for rental but definetly not a keeper.

2 out of 5 stars Another tragic love story... (yawn).......2005-06-07

This is another in a long line of tragic gay love stories. These movies always involve some impossibly beautiful young man and his painful awakening to the real world. It's not a very good movie but it's not a very bad movie, it's just kind of there. Another this is don't expect too much character development or plot. The story, such as it is, move forward very slowly and without any real sense of urgency. As far as it being based on the true story of a friend, it's just a bit too much of a cliche for me to really believe.

On major problem is the sound quality of the film. I had the volume turned up all the way and still was hearing mumbling and hiss. I love independent films but smaller producers need to remember sound is important. If your audience can't hear the actors, they get bored very quickly.

3 out of 5 stars Being gay in college in the South in the 1960s.......2005-05-29

In summary, a bisexual love triangle just as good as the French film "The Dreamers," less insane, and in English. If your decision comes down to that one versus this one, choose this one.

At first this sounded like a gay fantasy, similar to the ones you read on Nifty, but then I concluded it was probably based upon a true story, and indeed there is an acknowledgement at the end to that effect. There is little nudity compared to mainstream films, but ironically plenty of sex taking place, with the filming of such acts being discreet and abbreviated.

I liked this low-budget indie film better than other low-budget indie klunkers such as "Primer" that have sneaked their way into the video store.

The acting is good, the script terse but effective. The characters are not heroic, whether for good or evil, though the smack-injecting, witty castoff of the villain shows a faint glimmer of nobility. A moody, melancholy film about painful memories of being gay in college in the 1960s South. No new ground being broken here, no unforgettable characters or scenes, and no important new ideas, but an entertaining film nonetheless, and fairly well-done.

At twenty-seven bucks, this seems rather over-priced, like the majority of gay-oriented films, no matter where you buy them. Gay films seem to run 4x to 5x what mainstream films cost, but perhaps you can find a used copy, or simply buy new, share with friends, and then sell used, like many people do. These things sell rather easily online, so if you do buy-then-sell, you can probably come out just paying ten bucks or so.

1 out of 5 stars Oh, Brother!.......2005-05-09

This is a movie we are told is "Based on the events in the life of friend". This friend lead a boring, talky life. Certainly not worth making a movie about. A southern boy goes away to a college with apparently 10 students, one small frat house, one teacher and a president. He averages a three way with girl and a guy about every 20 movie-minutes in grainy slow motion. He falls for the male teacher. They sleep together. Teacher looses position and boy is sent home. Boy realizes he loves teach and races back but, wouldn't you know it, he gets there a minute too late as teach has drowned himself. The End.

3 out of 5 stars Burns out after first 30 Minutes.......2001-06-10

Greetings from Tromaville!!

This film is basically about a guy who gets revenge on his mistress/girlfriend who seemingly starts fires. It reveals what a 4th degree burn is (total carbonation of the skin) and clearly had an influence on such modern films as "Fatal Attraction" and Sam Raimi's "Darkman". Despite this, it is dated has loses steam after the first thirty minutes. The extras are simply the Radiation March, and an interview with the script writer.

FYI: This film bombed in America, but was a blockbuster overseas with it's alternative title: "Phantom of the Ferris Wheel".

          Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Good Poverty Row Movie - Bad DVD .......2006-02-04

Crime, Inc. was a higher budget effort from PRC, one of Hollywood's famous "Poverty Row" studios of the 1940's. It featured a solid cast, and a fairly tight script. The direction, while fairly nondescript, was solid enough, and the sets and music were good as well. A solid organized crime movie of that era, Crime Inc. may have been one of PRC's best efforts, and it certainly merits release on DVD.

Unfortunately, the Alpha DVD is a huge disappointment. The picture looks stretched horizontally, and is then cropped so that the sides are cut off. The very top and bottom of the original frame is cut off as well, giving the movie a cramped, claustrophobic feel - not to mention the "stretching" makes the actors all look short and stocky. The picture is soft, but if that had been the only major flaw it would have been acceptable, however, when you add a soft picture to a distorted (horizontally stretched) and cropped frame it makes for a very poor viewing experience. To add insult to injury the mastering/authoring of the DVD is poor as well - with most movements onscreen looking jittery and/or blurred. Those responsible for this DVD at Alpha should be deeply embarassed by the poor quality all around on this release. The only upside to the release (besides the quality of the movie) is the decent audio - no major hiss or distortion is present on the audio track.

The movie itself earns a 4 star rating (graded on a curve - this WAS a "poverty row" film, after all), but the DVD gets 1 1/2 (and would only earn a 1 rating, but the decent audio makes it worth an extra half star rating). Buy this version of the DVD ONLY if you've really got to see the movie - otherwise, wait and hope that Roan, VCI, Image, or Kino releases a better version.
