Great comedy!.......2007-04-18

Hispanic-American Rudy (Cheech Marin) is just having a fine day until an immigration raid as he's wrongfully prosecuted as an illegal immigrant. He doesn't know a word of spanish and forgot to bring his wallet and ID, he's forced to be deported to Mexico as he must find a way to get back to the U.S. even if he has to work for a club owner (Daniel Stern) for money.

Entertaining, underrated and hilarious cult comedy written and directed by Cheech Marin in based on his comedy parody album of the same name. Co-starring Paul Rodriguez, this lighthearted comedy has good laughs and an original storyline from Marin fresh off his Cheech and Chong stuff, this is one of the best and funniest comedy movies i've ever seen for i highly recommend it.

The DVD here has good picture and sound with both fullscreen and widescreen versions and one extra which is the theatrical trailer.

I personally love this movie, first time i saw it, a long time ago, i didnt like it because I was a Kid,,, then i saw it a few years later and love it,,, now i went to amazon and looked for it,,, its now on my collections... Its not a huge Classic movie, but it makes you have a good tome.

I have been waiting for some time to buy this movie because it was one of my all-time favorites when I first saw it on television. Waiting to see if it would appear at a discount price (about $5-$7)I decided to go ahead and purchase it. I was disappointed to find out that this version had the shorten-version that did not show the marriage on the float at the end of the movie. Only then did I learn this movie had two different endings. Regardless, since it was one of my favorites, I decided to keep it anyway.

Good, politically incorrect ethnic humor!.......2006-11-11

What made this film funny is that Cheech Marin's character Rudy Ramos tried to behave as the straight guy while acting out just about every bad Mexican joke that's ever been told. In this respect, it's one gaffe right after another.

BTW I also got a big kick out of Paul Rodriguez as the cousin, Javier, who acted like the picture of Jesus with the phone behind it was talking to him... at one point, he obediently brings "Jesus" a can of beer, LOL!

If only the real situation were not so depressing. I went to Tijuana in December '88 with a buddy who's an American citizen (he's of Mexican descent, but looks Egyptian... so the border guards never gave him any trouble), and came back across at the end of the day wondering why any sane person would want to live there. As bad as Tijuana is, however, I've heard it's nowhere near as bad as Calcutta ( =Tijuana if it was hit by a bomb).

It's not what you'd call high art, but there are some highly enjoyable moments in this nicely packaged box set, featuring nine complete shows (plus ample bonus material) spread out over three discs.

Beginning as a summer replacement in 1971, The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour earned its own regular time slot that same year, running for three straight seasons and then returning in 1976 (as The Sonny & Cher Show), after the couple's divorce. The show's formula, which had already been established both onstage and on the small screen (their '69 pilot episode is among the extra features), includes plenty of music (duets, Cher's solo performances in typically outlandish Bob Mackie gowns, various guest shots); lots of shtick (consisting mostly of Cher's put-downs of the minimally talented but good-natured Sonny); and sketches and skits (ranging from lame to inspired, including a mock-opera based on All in the Family and starring Metropolitan Opera tenor Robert Merrill as a warbling Archie Bunker). Guests range from the obvious (TV stalwarts like Harvey Korman, Ruth Buzzi, and Don Knotts) to the downright weird (then-California governor Ronald Reagan). It's all fairly middlebrow, but Sonny & Cher's unpretentious, unself-conscious charm carries it; and once in a while everything congeals into one surreally entertaining package, like the '72 show featuring the Jackson 5 (led, of course, by Michael, who was then 14 and still apparently normal), who are followed to the stage by Reagan (telling jokes, sort of) and singer-actor Howard Keel, veteran of numerous movie musicals.

Bonus features include 2003 audio commentary by a nostalgic Cher, interviews with the producers, the '69 pilot, bios, discographies, and a show history. The DVD set also comes with a music-only CD, featuring live performances of "The Beat Goes On" and "I Got You Babe." --Sam Graham

If you haven't seen a TV variety show, this is the one to see. Music, comedy and technical effects of the day made this show a "must see."

Not what I expected.......2006-12-11

Sonny and Cher were one of the best variety show duos ever to inhabit TV land, so I was saddened that this DVD collections is not really the "best" that they've done.

Don't get me wrong, there are many great clips in here... but... the producers of this DVD package have decided to include full shows (with lots of boring stuff I didn't really care about) instead of concentrating on the star, Cher!

What I would like to see is a 'best of' compilation with all the best guest-stars, musical numbers, outfits, etc...

The Ultimate Variety Show.......2006-11-30

As far as I'm concerned, these two set the bar for the slew of variety shows that followed in the 70's (though I'm well aware there were predecessors). Their opening song and banter were always entertaining. The skits were actually funny (most of the time) and who didn't love the medley portion of the show (complete with matching outfits and Sonny busting out some lame dance moves). They had really good writers, regulars (including Steve Martin and Teri Garr), great guest stars, and groovy clothes that put the Brady Bunch to shame. Little Chastity closed out the show with them, and it was just a nice little, sweet family (little did we know).
However, as an elementary aged child at the time, I had an odd crush on Sonny Bono (which to this day I will never live down with the family). I get a big kick out of watching this 70's time capsule (and call me crazy, but I still thik Sonny was a cute little guy). My only complaint is that they didn't put the show out in individual seasons. I realize it's hard to get the rights to the music, but I'd love to at least see the 1st three seasons in their entirety....I can do without the post divorce show (though the skits were funny--it didn't gel). Shame it didn't work out between these two--they worked really well together during their relationship.

I have been wanting to buy this set for a long, long time since I grew up anxiously awaiting each and every episode of The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour AND the Cher Show. Since I hadn't seen any of the episodes (like commentator Cher) since their original run in the early seventies,I noticed some good (and bad) stuff about the show.

The first season was a dress rehearsal in many ways; the editing was sloppy and continual "laughing" breakups from the lead couple during most of the skits got to be annoying after awhile. The best season seemed to be in 1973 with the episodes where Chastity comes out at the start of each show and newsworthy skits are performed on a cartoon train. You don't see the "cue cards" in the audience as much during the opening singing and monologues and Cher's vocals and delivery are more polished than in the first season especially. Sonny still stinks however (LOL) ... can't seem to act without looking off to the side to read his lines off the cue cards which director Art Fisher should have done something about but obviously didn't for one reason or another.

My favorite segements of the show are the "Vamp number," Lady Luck (another type of "Vamp sequence" in Season 3 ), Laverne at the Laundromat. (Cher was SO FUNNY along with Terri Garr and this showed her natural inclination towards comedy and acting) I really enjoyed watching a manic Sonny share the spotlight with "the hippest woman on earth" during the musical performances with their band backing them(which the final reunion season lacked incidentally)-their medley of "Brother Loves Traveling Salvation Show" and "Tamborine Man"-SO COOL!!!! On the sour side the "Opera" skits with Morgan Freeman annoyed the heck out of me as well as Sonny's Pizza. Cher's solos were very good-faves include "Half Breed," "Way of Love," and "Am I Blue?"
The first two discs were good to great especially disc 2!!

My only complaint is the chemistry and work on Disc 3 and the show they did after both their solo shows went off the air. They lacked the chemistry of the earlier shows playing it safe (of course they were divorced but they could have worked a little harder for an audience and ratings) the opening songs were only fair, the "Cutesie News" was totally stupid, liked the "War of the Sexes" with Sonny acting the sissy man he was (LOL) and Cher being very K.D. Lang....haha!! This season did not have them singing together which I really missed and Cher's solo's had her dressed to the nine's in typical Bob Mackie extravagant outfits but song selections for her were mediocre at best.

I loved Sonny and Cher-wish the CHER SHOW would come out in it's entirety as I thought she did a GREAT JOB on her own and that it was better than Sonny and Cher actually and more relaxed in many ways. She underestimated herself I think-however I would love to see all the original Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour episodes-Seasons 1 to 3 on disc-I will pass on the last show they did together. It just showed indifference and the writing and rapport was just not the same.

No offense to this great site but I would never pay almost 50 bucks for this-got it for half that somewhere else-maybe I'd pay it for for all the shows but not for nine episodes.

Please Make a Season By Season DVD.......2006-04-30

I would give anything to have every season of each show from The First Season to the last season when they came back after their divorce. I would also love to have The Cher SHow on a season by season (What was it 2 seasons?) Anyway, I was so impressed by her when I was a child. I would entertain my family doing impressions of her singing (and yes, I can still sound like her LOL) from Dark Lady to Gypsies, Tramps, ad Theives and the opening monologue. The gowns and make up and jewelry are my favorite and why I love Bob Mackie and Carol Burnette Shows as well!!!!My daughter is 3 and she loves to watch these DVD's. I have both the Ultimate and the Christmas Collection. So please, whoever has the rights, put them out there in their entirety. The Sonny and Cher Show, the Sonny and Cher Comedy Revue, and The Cher Show.

well then you haven't seen this!!! I saw this in a crowded art theater with quite a few other lesbians present. At one point the two main characters begin a dialogue about how they love each other. Trite enough in itself. Then one says to the other, "Well actually I don't always love you in fact sometimes I don't even like you." When finally my film going companion had enough and yelled out, "Well, I hate you both!" bringing the house down in a roar of laughter. She pretty much summed up my feeling. I hate this film. If you like bad movies and like to laugh at how stupid everyone can be then definitely watch this. Although it lacks the wonderful camp of showgirls. Which is another terrible film but at least its good-bad ya know? For a decent lesbian film When Night is Falling comes to mind or Bound for that matter.

Kinda cheesy, but enjoyable nonetheless.......2005-02-11

"Bar Girls" is an enjoyable little romantic comedy about an obsessive, incredibly funny cartoonist, Loretta, who is continually looking for that perfect significant other. When she actually finds her, she thinks it's too perfect and all her neurotic, but hilarious, self-sabotage tendencies kick in. Clever dialogue between Loretta and her best friend, tension-filled moments between Loretta and the film's stereotypical "bad girl", as well as tender moments of self-awareness make up for the film's obviously lacking depth. The intermittent scenes of Loretta's cartoon and the cartoon's heroine are hilarious! In all, "Bar Girls" is kinda cheesy, but an enjoyable 90-minutes nonetheless.

I had thought about buying this DVD for a long time then it appeared on The Movie Channel, so I could see it for free. I almost couldn't stand to watch it even then. The acting is terrible and the situations between the women are even worse. I don't know why any of these characters would be considered attractive to anyone. If this is what is being used to represent lesbian culture, we're in worse shape than ever. Don't buy this. In fact, don't watch it.....even for free. Too bad I couldn't give it zero stars.

what happened to the gorgeous, husky-voiced, luscious, deliciously dykey Camila Griggs who plays the agressive cop J.R. Now, she is hot. My "ultimate dream girl" fantasy to quote her character in the movie.You could cast her as the Xena uber in any of those fan inspired novels with no leap of imagination whatsoever. Someone should've starred her in her own lesbian indie. The woman has got to have a following. It was great to see a strong, totally believable (and very attractive) amazon gay woman portrayed for a change.

I was terribly disappointed by this film. The sound, screenplay, acting and direction are all terrible. Everything about it just screams low budget. It has the quality of a home video created in someone's basement. This is a film to avoid!

i wanted so bad to see this movie when it opened in dallas texas where i was living when it opened in 1969. however it was rated R at the time and i was only 16. in those days they carded kids at theaters so i never got to see it. as the years went by i tried time and again to see it. never could find it on the shelves of video stores. i had heard cher and sonny both talk about how bad this movie was. i have read reviews from people who saw it and called it bad. i am here to say.. it ain't so bad. its a big try by sonny bono to make cher a movie star. it did not work. i think for several rwasons. one he was too close to the subject matter and to cher herself.two, he backed away from what ideas he had orginally for this movie in fear it would be too controversial. i had no trouble watching this movie. i liked it. i got the end idea of what he was trying to say and do. i think the movie has alot to say on a deep level. it deals with a subject matter that sonny was very brave to bring up at the time. cher lights up the screen. she gives a good performance for her 1st time out in doing drama. she needed a better director and a screen writer.. sonny.. who would stick to his guns on what he was trying to say. i liked the film. i did not think it as great. but it was good. i am very happy i bought this movie. after all these years i finally got to judge for myself whether or not it was as bad as its producer said it was. i say no it was not. i say good try sonny bono.

Cher is a knock out in her first feature film!.......2005-10-14

I got this DVD yesterday and i absolutely love this movie.Cher is so young and she did a great job for her first dramatic role.Chastity is very wise with the way she makes money for herself.In one scene chastity pretends that her father owns a gas station and she fills up somebodys tank and checks the car and she charges 5 dollars and runs off with it. she is always off running away because of something and you don't know what it is until the end when she's hearing her mom and dad's voice in her head and their yelling at each other and you eventually find out that she was abused as a child by hearing her mom yell at her dad about it and it won't stop so she runs away from the man that she loved because she didn't want what happened to her as a child to happen again.It is a dramatic,enjoyable,movie that should be more appreciated by others.

She was born in a wagon of a travelin' show, her mama used to dance for the money they'd throw... Yes, it's pre-nose-job Cher in her absolutely wretched dramatic debut, as a sullen and surly hitchhiking runaway with a heart of pressed tin. With her grating voice and punk-ass demeanor, she can often be misconstrued as acting, but do not be fooled - she is simply a marionette in the hands of producer Sonny "Svengali" Bono (whom one can also presume was also the never-heard-of-before and never-heard-from-again director de Paola). Chastity is a disturbed young woman who hits the road to escape her dreary, unhappy life, and finds more dreariness and unhappiness. In this turgid and lugubrious script, she takes her anger out on men by picking them up, leading them on and then "not letting them get anything." She works as a prostitute without ever having to give up "the goods," and winds up in a Mexican whorehouse for a lesbian madam who would like Chastity to be something more than an employee. With a creepy introspective/philosophical voiceover narrative by Cher, it is hippie-age BS and you can definitely see her *Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves* period looming on the horizon. Chastity is perplexing in a way that is peculiarly unintriguing, and despite all her woes, she is supremely unsympathetic. Her eventual confession of being abused as a child may have been shocking in 1969, but in retrospect, it is entirely predictable. There are some who will dig deeply to find some merit to this film, but it should strictly be taken as what it is: pure camp - meaning, of course, that's it's hysterically funny while it tries desperately to be serious. Would *you* name *your* child after this? "Chastity...pick her up if you dare." Indeed.

Curious peak at early Cher.......2004-08-30

This is Cher's PURPLE RAIN - sort of a semibiography that lets Cher play herself struggling through some hard times. She plays the lead character who runs the whole movie from one situation to the next until we finally get to see what she is running from in a pretty effective final breakdown sequence. It was a flop on its release, and it's still pretty much a midnight worthy cult film without too much you could call great cinema. But it is a peak at pre-plastic surgery Cher, and surprisingly you get the idea that yes there is a star in there.

I was disappointed that all you get is a widescreen transfer of the film and a trailer. Mono soundtrack too. But the curious will be vindicated, and yes this is at least the R-rated version since there are a couple of fleeting scenes of Cher in the buff. But no sex scenes to be found.

CHASTITY will not be everyone's cup of tea, but it is an interesting film. Not as bad as some would lead you to believe. It's about a troubled girl who runs away, and just keeps going. The music is very strong. There are some really funny lines as well. And it's a total trip! The price is pretty low as well.

I have seen this film lots of times on Showtime.I've read where Sonny Bono copped out on his own screenplay.Yet he put everything about Cher or what she had experienced into the film.It may not be at its very best,but yet it showcases Cher as to what was to come.

This movie wasn't as bad as some of the crap I've seen low budget that looks like it was shot on home cameras. True, some of the shots look amateurish but the story is pretty good and the commentary was interesting. The effort was there but the budget was lacking. The cover makes it look like it's a high budget film but it isn't...but I would not say this movie flat out sucks by any means. My vote is worth a look because of some of it's insightfulness.

Both the acting and picture quality are so bad you'll think you're watching someone's school project made with a home camcorder.

I thought this was a comedy. Its not, it just a cheap movie about 3 nerds driving around town trying to get some, while trying to avoid the neighborhood "thugs".

Don't buy this movie. Its not funny!!!

Compared to all of the other b-movies I've tried to watch, I thought this one was pretty good. It had good music, and It kept me interested from the start! It gets 4 stars for it being good for a low budget movie.

Great Urban Comedy!.......2003-02-21

This is one of those rare gems that you may not have heard about, but is definitely worth checking out. The movie centers around lead character Sketch and his high school cronies on the night before graduation. I know what you're thinking, "Been there done that." But this ain't Jennifer Love Hewitt and her homogenized group of whitebread cohorts--these are idiosyncratic, urban dwellers (without guns) that we've never seen before. The dialogue and scenarios ring true and Nicole Pulliam ("The Man Show") is worth the price of admission alone. Rent it. You won't regret it.

Old "skool" Kung fu!!.......2006-06-06

I gave this flick 4 stars because it deserves it. I had the opportunity to view this flick in it's entirety. I must admit I started watching not expecting too much, but I was pleasantly surprized. The fight scenes were immense, and intense. The DVD transfer was pretty good. The story/ plot very transparent and easy to follow. I refuse to give too much details of this flick, it's worth cheching out,,you will not be dissapoinment!!

ARGUABLY ROBERT TAI'S BEST.......2006-05-31

the reason i say "arguably" is because alexander lo rei is severly underused but his not being used is made up for by the spectacular fight scenes by everyone else. the fight choreography is done by wong chi sang who also has a small role in the movie. it seems like him and sifu robert tai were fans of american pro wrestling too and you can tell by watching some of the fight scenes in the movie. like when the big muscular villain suplexes alexander lo rei, and the armlocks, the body slams all mixed in with great kung fu. you can also catch a brief display of shaolin lohan fist. this also stars li hai sheng the great acrobat from taiwan who was a very crafty fight scene with the leading lady of the film. the dvd features like the others are great and the picture is good but the sound youll have to turn all the way up but do pick this one up as well.

ALEXANDER LO REI DOES NOT SHINE IN THIS HORRIBLE MOVIE.......2006-03-16

their is a reviewer who does an excellent job of reviewing this and gives it a 4/5 stars. How they could have actually watched this movie and liked it, I have no idea. The shaolin monk is the only one who has a good fight scene in this and that's is the only good one in the movie. So if you wanna see a movie with only 2 good fighters(only one of which shines), then check this out.

The baddies are all some of the worst fighters I have ever seen. I mean these have to be the stupidest fighting scenes I have seen since thunder ninja or one of those stupid godrey hoe movies.

THE only reason to watch this is for the kids, the kids are actually kind of funny and are very acrobatic. Though don't expect ANY good fight scenes in it..

Si I would say if you are age 10 or under to watch this and it would be great for your kids.

No Shortage of Fighting, and Easy to Follow.......2001-12-12

The Wu-Tang clan really dug up a winner with this one. You are treated to their rambling social commentary and analysis before the movie too (I recommend skipping that part).

The plot for this movie is pretty straightforward: nine bad guys move in to a village out in the middle of nowhere and kill all the adults. The kids (ranging from maybe 5 to 18) shack up with two Shaolin monks and learn Shaolin Chastity Kung Fu (according to the back of the box -- it was actually called something else in the movie, but I like this name better). If you guessed that revenge for the death of their village follows, you by be a psychotic, or telepathetic or something!

The fight scenes are mostly well done. There is a LOT of acrobatic work! There is a little bit of wirework, most of these stunts look real. The villians are really cool too. Some are beefy like WWF wrestlers. One is kinda goofy looking at wears striped clothes (watch out for that guy). One even wears an eyepatch like a Chinese land pirate. The main bad guy is sort of an evil Erik Estrada, but very very tough. As a bonus, you get to see a guy's head punched off and another villiager gets thrown up in the air and then head butted in half!!!

The movie is about 90 minutes long, and approximately 3 of that are dedicated to plot. The rest is fighting, or training scenes, which are full of kids basically being tortured and wailed on.

The video quality is actually pretty good, especially compared to some old kung fu movies I have seen.

This is really worth a watch!

Iron Mike's favorite flick!.......2001-08-09

First of all,the other reviewers don't know nothing about kung fu flicks. This video is from Robert Tai who directed sh@t like 5 Venoms and Golden Arms etc, so you know it's going to be good.Totally original concept of the Virgin kung fu style.I read that this flick is one of Iron Mike's top 3 films next to 1 Arm Boxer and 5 Venoms.This is all action.No b.s. plot lines and what not. And the Wu has they best music video on here with the killah Beez! Check it!
