Amazon.com Review
Michael Powell broke with a decade of B movies with this personal project shot on the North Sea island of Foula, a magnificent, primal landscape of high, rocky inland plains and sheer cliffs jutting out of the sea like a dare. He renamed the island Hirta for this fictional story (based on the real-life evacuation of the island of St. Kilda) of an isolated community's traditional way of life slowly dying as the young men are drawn to the modern cities of the mainland. John Laurie and Finlay Currie play the two family patriarchs who struggle over the future of the island community, and Powell himself appears as the yachtsman in a framing sequence. The romantic melodrama at the heart of the tale turns on a breathtaking race up the sheer cliffs and the grudge it sparks when one of the climbers falls to his death.
The Edge of the World is more stately and still than Powell's cinematically playful and stylistically vibrant later films like The Red Shoes and Black Narcissus. The proud, hard residents of the island are constantly framed against the dramatic sky, the craggy mountains, or the rolling meadows with a dire seriousness. Yet there's a poetry to his images, which are never less than gorgeous, and Powell directs with a sense of tension, urgency, and desperation that pulls at the easy pace of this harsh lifestyle. This edition also features the lovely 1941 short An Airman's Letter to His Mother (narrated by John Gielgud) and the Powells' 1978 documentary Return to the Edge of the World, a 22-minute remembrance organized around a reunion on the island of Foula. --Sean Axmaker
Description
Add: Bonus Feature: Commentary by Academy-Award® winning editor Thelma Schoonmaker Powell, film historian Ian Christie and Daniel Day-Lewis reading from Michael Powell's book on the making of the film, "200,000 Feet on Foula."

Customer Reviews:
The wrong wrestlers are being pushed and this ppv is proof.......2007-06-21
Having Ric Flair open up a ppv to me is just disrespectful. This opening match to me was better than the main event and way better than the handicap match. Also mostly clean wins, even for the heels.
Ric Flair vs. Carlito. They got a good amount time to put on a very good opener. Even at his age Flair can always get the crowd pumped. This man deserves another Heavyweight Title run in my opinion. And Carlito is sticking with ground base wrestling which is a good thing to me. The high flying style just doesn't fit him. 4/5
3 on 1 handicap match.
Mcmahons and Umaga vs. Lashley
The only reason I dont truly hate this match is because its short. Lashley is just garbage and thats all it is to it. What I hate the most is how Umaga is being used now. He went from the unstoppable, undefeated monster, with victories over Flair, Triple H, Michaels, and Kane. To a mere jobber for a newcomer and Lashley's whooping boy. It seems he cant even beat Lashley without the Mcmahons in his corner. P*sspoor match, graced with a quick ending. 2/5 and the biggest low point of the whole ppv.
CM Punk vs. Elijah Burke
A pretty decent match but I expected more from these two. It was a bit too long and seemed to drag. Even at times the crowd wasn't even in to it. 3/5
Shawn Michaels vs. Randy Orton
These two have had better. But this wasn't even a match. Randy jumped Michaels earlier. Plus Michaels was selling his concussion that he got a week ago to the fullest. The match was fast as he**. That RKO at the end was murder though. 3/5
The Hardy's vs Cade and Murdoch
Once again the Hardy's deliver but this match is kind of weak next to other matches. Cade and Murdoch in my opinion are underrated. I've enjoyed most of their tag team matches. The only thing I'm not feeling is Murdoch trying to pull off the Canadian Destroyer. Please let Petey Williams execute his own move thank you. Still a pretty solid match. 3/5
Edge vs. Batista
Why is Batista still getting title shots every ppv?! I can think of anyone who can match Edge's style in the ring and have spectacular matches. This match was mediocre at best and could have easily been on Smackdown. Nothing special here at all. 2.5/5
Chris Benoit vs. MVP 2 out of 3 falls
This match saved my life. It fell very short from their previous matches. Especially the one they had at Wrestlemania. Still it was pretty good and they blended very well together. Lots of counters and submissions were utilized. For me, this was the match of the night. 4/5
Cena vs. Khali
What the he11 is Khali doing main eventing?! My god if it wasn't for the length of this match, I don't think I could have watched this all the way through. The only high point was Cena's resourcefullness to chop down The Great Khali using the ring steps. Otherwise, nothing too special about this match either. 2.5/5.
This ppv was a step down from the last one. And this is proof the wrong guys is being pushed. Hopefully the wwe bookers step their game up.
Judgment Day 2007 Dissappoints.......2007-06-06
This years's Judgment Day Was As Disappoinitng. Even when it had all the 3 brands but still didn't live up to the ecpectations.
Ric flair def.carlito. Flair made carlito tap out after giving a figure four leg lock.
CM pank def. that black guy. Punk when after giving his finishing move.
Lashley def. mcmahons n umaga. Lashley pinned shane after giving a slam. But vince had a story to say that he didn't pin him so that he is still the ecw world champion.
Hardz def. cade n murdock. Jeff pinned murdock after giving swanton bomb.hardyz retained the world tag team championship.
Randy orton n Hbk Fought in a no contest. reason hbk collapsed after suffering an injury.
Edge Def Batista. Edge won by giving a school boy to batista and retained his world heavyweight championship.
John cena def the great khali. Cena made khali tap after giving an STFU and retained his WWE championship.
Overall An Average PPV At Best.
WWE JUDGEMENTDAY IS A 1 STAR PPV.......2007-05-30
80-76%-prefect
75-71%-awsome
70-66%-good
65-61%-poor
60-56%-awful
1. Carlito vs. Rick Flair- I thought this was an okay match to start off the show. I was expecting this match to be a little better conxsidering carlito had just turned heeel again and I was expecting a little bit of a better performance out of him. This match was really slow with Carlito working on flairs arm a lot. Flair was able to fight back and get the win but this one was to slow for me and not enough action for a carlito match. Winner Carlito. Match Rating 5.5/10.
2. Vince McMahon and Shane McMahon and Umaga vs. Bobby Lasley for the ECW World Title- So we move on from a disappointing match to a match that sucked even worse. I was expecting a decent match but this was worse than backlash. The entrances were longer than the match itself. Also the ending was pointless because even though Lashley won the match McMahon said Lashley had to pin him so the match meant nothing. Skip this crap ECW has turned god awful. Winner Bobby lashley. Match Rating 1.5/10.
3. CM Punk vs. Elige Burke- So we finally get a match that is decent and go figure its an ECW match. These two had been fighting and feuding for a while. This was just a solid match with some hard hitting wrestling. Good match. Winner CM Punk. Match Rating 7/10.
4. Randy Orton vs. Shawn Michales- Here we go again. Another crap match. The thing is this one could have been good but Shawn Michales was hurt. So instead of taking this match off the card and putting on a smackdown tag match we leave this on the card and of course it sucks. This match was like 4 minutes long but there was no action at all. I was happy to see orton get the win in this hometown but another bad decision to book this match when Shawn was hurt. Winner Randy Orton. Match Rating 2/10.
5. The Hardy Boyz vs. Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch for the world tag team titles- This was a good match. In fact in my opinion this was the match of the night. I really liked the way this was set up. The card was doing bad so far and these guys steeped there game up. I think about a 15 minute match which was pleanty of time for these guys. Lots of high flying moves by the hardys which made this match fast pace. There were tons of near falls in this match including a spinebuster that I thought the hardys had lost there titles. Still a great match. Winner and still World Tag team champs the hardy boyz. Match Rating 8/10.
6. Edge vs. Batistia for the WHT- This match I was looking forward to considering this was coming off edges hot title win and just a lot of hype behind it. Unfortunately this did not live up to the hype. One reason is because this match was only given 9 minutes. That is smackdowns title match only 9 minutes. This was worked on mostly batistias leg. Batistia fought back hit a spine buster but out of know were Edge rolled him up for the win which was a huge shock. Winner and still WHC Edge. Match Rating 5.5/10.
7. Chris Beniot vs. MVP for the US title- This was another match that I was looking forward to this one was accualty not that bad. They had so many great matches coming into this one so I was expecting a match of the year did not get that at all but this was still not that bad of a match. MVP controlled this whole match which was the main reason it was hard to watch at times. MVP won the first and second fall which was why I did not like this match as much cause it was not competitive. Still a good match though. Winner and new US Champ MVP. Match Rating 7.5/10.
8. John Cena vs. The Great Kalih for the WWE title- This was the third main event title match that sucked. That's right I do not know why this was the main event or why Kalhi was in the main event. There were so many things wrong whit this match including that the match was only 8 minutes long. Kalhi controlled this whole match except for the very end Cena hit the steps in Kalhis knee and than brought him in and Kalhi tapped. This was a horrible ending considering cena never even affected Kalhi and Cena pulls out another BS win. Lokk I do not like Kalhi but I am sick of Cena winning every time. This ending sucked and so did the ppv. Winner and still WWE champ John Cena. Match Rating 5/10.
Well that raps up another. I would give Judgment day 2007 a grade of 42/80 which means this is a awful ppv. This is the first time in a long time that I have ever gave out that grade but when all of your main titles combine for a total of 20 minutes that is sad and just a poor booked event. Try and avoid to get this. If you can tell me if my review was helpful or not I would appreciate that. Thanks for your time.
buying wwe judgment 2007 for edge he rules .......2007-05-24
the wwe stands for we want edge respect edge because he is the best and everyone know's it boo edge all you want say he sucks and crap but im a edge fan if im the only one I don't care but I know im not my friend is one to so edge deserve's respect and wwe fans should give it to him this is the only wwe ppv that I think is worth it so far wm would have been better if edge won the mitb match instead of kennedy I don't have ppv and can't afford 40 dollars every month so this will do on dvd
Judgment Day 2007.......2007-05-24
Carltio vs. Ric Flair
-- good opener. Nice to see Ric Flair win with the figure 4 leg lock
:winner Ric Flair
7/10
Lashley vs. Umaga and the Mcmahons(C) for the ECW title
-- Lashley dominated this 3 minute match and gets screwed in the end.
:winner Lashley (but doesn't win the title)
4/10
CM. Punk vs. Elijah Burke
-- a good match between two great wrestlers. A little longer than
expected but good nonetheless.
:winner CM Punk
7/10
Murdock/Cade vs. The Hardys (C) for the Tag team titles
-- match of the night (which says how bad this ppv was). The hardys
always give good matches and Murdock/Cade stepped it up in this match.
:winner The Hardys (retain the titles)
8/10
Randy Orton vs. HBK
-- this was horrible. If HBK wasn't gonna wrestle, then find a replacement
This wasn't a match.
:winner Randy Orton (by default)
4/10
Batista vs. Edge (C) for the World Heavyweight Title
-- another horrible match. Judgment Day is usually a Smackdown
ppv, so why isn't this match in the main event? There was no chemistry
between Batista and Edge.
:winner Edge retains (without cheating, surpising isn't it)
6/10
MVP vs. Beniot (2/3 falls)for the U.S. title
--Why is this match after the world title match? Vince is dumb!! This
match was bad. The overall theme of this ppv is "bad". Nothing special
happened in this match.
:winner and New U.S. Champ MVP
5/10
The Great Khali vs. Cena for the WWE Championship
--This match sucked!!!!!!! Cena is a worthless piece of crap who "rapped"
his way to the title. He is the reason people are watching TNA. He does
a total of about 4 moves and wins. He is horrible. The Great Khali is
horrible too although he surpised me with some moves in this match.
:winner and still WWE Champ John "I can't wrestle" Cena
4 1/2 out of 10
This ppv sucked, plain and simple. DO NOT WASTE YOU MONEY ON THIS CRAP.

The Royal Rumble...For the 20th Time!.......2007-06-10
Are you ready to rumble? No, I said ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE? Well count me in as ready because ladies and gentleman, it is Royal Rumble time. Not only do we have the Royal Rumble match, but we also have a LAST MAN STANDING match and Test vs. Bobby Lashley. Wait let me repeat myself: Test vs. Lashley! Folks, if that didn't make you pumped than I don't know what will. Let's get on with it already.
First up is MNM vs. The Hardys. Mercury is still sporting his Hannibal Lector mask as JR and The King remind us of his defacing. Of course, if that wasn't enough they show us replays of the fatal ladder shot. WILL THE HARDYS PYRO EVER GO OFF AT THE RIGHT TIME? Poor guys, but at least they still have their face. Nitro and Matt start things off. Mercury tagged in and he is attacking Matt's jaw. Of all the body parts to work on guys...but to their credit Matt had a dislocated jaw. Actually I kind of like it. ATTACK THE JAW! Hardys do some double teaming and are in control. Nitro targets Matt's jaw yet again and MNM regain control. Nitro applies a CHINLOCK. Get it..chin-jaw, chin-jaw. Even a double jawbreaker by MNM and I'm loving their offense. Melina is keeping pretty calm unlike her Scott Steiner like tantrum last month. Jeff gets the tag and is going crazy. WHISPER IN THE WIND! The Hardys then try a top rope leg drop and splash combo but Nitro gets his knees up on Jeff's splash. ~INNOVATION~ MNM back in control and it seems like everyone is holding their jaw except Mercury because he doesn't have a face. ROLLUP BY JEFF! To no avail and MNM go back to the double teaming. HOT TAG TO MATT...NO the referee didn't see it. Can we get some security to escort Mike Chioda out of the building? NOW THE HOT TAG TO MATT! Some nice offense by Matt and the match is starting to break down. Nearfalls by both teams lead to the SIDE EFFECT on Nitro. TWIST OF FATE follows as Mercury takes Matt out of the ring. Jeff sneaks in the ~SWANTAN~ and picks up the victory for the faces...at least the team where 100% of their members had a face. This was a very good opener. Although I wish Matt's jaw would have come in to play a little more there is no doubt that these two teams have chemistry. Overall, just a fun match to watch. ***
Up next we have the sole reason many people ordered this event on pay per view. This is also the sole reason that Styles and Tazz showed up tonight. It is Test vs. Lashley for the ECW World Championship. Oh and for those of you at home that don't know, Test is the IMPACT PLAYER. The two icons lockup and Test slaps Lashley only to get speared. Thankfully, Test has decided to wear kneepads tonight. Nice t-bone by Lashley followed by another suplex. Test gets in control via ramming Lashley into the ring post. Armbar draws our first boring chants. Even I think that's unfair. Armbreaker by Test and then he goes back to the armbar. I smell psychology. Lashley back in control with a press slam, WAIT! Lashley can't pull it off because of his arm. BIG..ENORMOUS boot by Test. Test's TKO is blocked and he gets clotheslined out of the ring. TEST TAKES THE COUNTOUT!?!?! There wasn't even time for my dull humor during the match. Okay, well that was a big waste of time. They had an average match going and then the stupid countout finish followed. Not good. 1/2*
With a tough act to follow, it is Mr. Kennedy vs. Batista for the World Heavyweight Championship. I told you: dull humor. Mr. Kennedy is cocky and he has every right to be. Folks, he BEAT THE CLOCK to get here. As Batista hops to the ring, we see THE SIGN GUY. There is some justice in the world. Batista powers Kennedy down to start but Kennedy gets a shot to the knee and an early rollup for 2. Boot by Batista who then suplexes Kennedy. They go to the outside but Kennedy rams Batista's knee into the steel steps. Back in the ring, Batista is in control as JBL verbally abuses Cole calling him a parrot. Kennedy gets another shot to the knee and then goes on to get more shots in on it. Kennedy then puts Batista in his indian deathlock contraption. What do you expect, the guy BEAT THE CLOCK! Kennedy is bleeding from the nose which makes me wonder if he is beginning to lose his face as well. Now I know what they mean when they tell me not to try this at home. Single-leg boston crab by Kennedy who knows he better win while he still has a face. Batista rolls through and gets a small package followed by an attempt for a powerslam but Kennedy slips out. SPINEBUSTER!! Batista can't capitalize because of his knee. They trade shots and Batista pulls off his power slam and Batista STEALS KENNEDY'S GREEN BAY PLUNGE! JBL...Sign Guy...can someone stop this animal? REF DOWN, REF DOWN, REF DOWN! Low Blow by Kennedy followed by a neckbreaker. Kennedy has Batista beat, but no referee. Can we get some security to escort Nick Patrick out of the building? Kennedy goes for a clothesline from the top rope but gets caught. BATISTA BOMB and Batista retains his title. While not setting the world on fire, this match showed two things. Kennedy has improved significantly and Batista can sell somewhat consistently. Decent little match but nothing more. **1/4
WWE Championship time as John Cena faces Umaga in a Last Man Standing Match. This match was setup nicely by their match at New Year's Revolution so let's see what they can do here. The SIGN GUY comes through again with his sign saying: "Umaga...Last Man Eating". They trade blows to start but Umaga gets the advantage by going to Cena's ribs. Outside, Umaga throws Cena into the steel steps. Both men battle in the entranceway and then take it back inside the ring. Umaga is just attacking Cena's ribs to the point where Cena is down for a 7 count. Umaga throws the steel steps into the ring. Cena recovers for a moment and sends Umaga back outside. Cena picks up the steps...the steel steps...and KILLS UMAGA BY THROWING THE STEPS AT UMAGA ON THE OUTSIDE!! Umaga gets back in control via spin kick. Of course, Armando Estrada did massage him after that big spot as well. You think I'm lying? BEARHUG by Umaga. Steps are back into the ring and Umaga sets up Cena against the steps but misses his running butt slam (what do you want me to call it?). Cena follows up by nailing Umaga with the steps. Cena gets caught doing a crossbody and Umaga hits a fallaway slam. Things are looking bad for Cena until he gets his knees up on Umaga and follows up with a BULLDOG ONTO THE STEPS! Cena hits his side suplex. YOU CAN'T SEE ME...FIVE KNUCKLE SHUFFLE...FU...NO! Cena can't pull it off. Cena is busted open and Umaga smells blood. Umaga continues to use logic but then CENA HULKS UP! All that gets him is a samoan drop ~PUN~. Samoan spike is blocked but Umaga rebounds with a headbutt. Umaga misses another headbutt and Cena hits his top rope legdrop. Umaga dies for the second time tonight as he gets blasted with a TV monitor. Cena gets caught again and rammed into the ring post. Armando tells Umaga to lay on the announce table for another massage but Umaga interprets differently and lays Cena on the table. UMAGA RUNS THE ANNOUNCE TABLES BUT MISSES A SPLASH!! That gets a 9 count. Armando whips out his toolbox and looses the top rope so it comes off completely. The intention here is the ~ULTIMATE SAMOAN SPIKE~. It's blocked and CENA GETS THE FU and hits Umaga with the metal turnbuckle. STFU USING THE ROPE! EVEN A MONSTER'S GOT TO BREATHE!!! Umaga gets up so Cena locks it on again. Umaga can't make the 10 count at Cena retains his title. Once again, these two have a very good match. I do feel this is overrated to an extent. Most of the psychology was off as it wasn't Cena's ribs that stopped him from performing moves but rather the weight of Umaga. Nevertheless, original spots and an original ending make this a very good, almost great match. ***1/2
Finally we come to the ROYAL RUMBLE MATCH. Now I am going to do things a little differently. Instead of doing play by play I will just give you my overall thoughts on the match. If I did do play by play, it would be incredibly long (like most of my reviews) and repetitive (Person enters, person gets eliminated). So time to get my analytical face on. First of all, the announce team was very good. It consisted of Cole, JBL, and Jerry Lawler. Mixing JBL and Lawler will always be entertaining. The actual match itself is disappointing for the most part considering the talent involved. There are many periods during the match where everyone in the ring is in pairs trying to eliminate each other. There also aren't many memorable eliminations; the most memorable being Sabu chokeslammed through a table. My final problem is that no one really stands out and shines. That is, until we get to the final four. This is where the match gets turned up a notch. In fact, it even gets better when we get down to just Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker. These two provided us with an insane amount of suspense helped by each having a legitimate chance of winning. With all that said, there still are some fun interactions and Undertaker winning from Number 30 was a nice touch. How do you rate a match like this? Each reviewer has different criteria so I'll just leave you with a closing statement. The 2007 Royal Rumble Match was for the most part dull but had maybe the best final four segment ever.
So there is the 2007 Royal Rumble. We had two matches hit three stars in Hardys/MNM and Umaga/Cena. I guess you could say I underrated Umaga/Cena as many people liked it a lot more than I did. The Royal Rumble match was fun as always but not that great of a match. Then of course Test and Lashley put on their clinic. To finish, it is still the Royal Rumble with a hot opener and a very good Last Man Standing Match.

In his entire career before this event Undertaker had never won a royal rumble, but now he can finally join the illustrious list of rumble winners as well as one of the few who went on to Wrestlemania and win the world title. The rest of the card was stacked as well, all three titles that were on the line were retained by their own champions, including a wild brawl between Cena and Umaga...
MNM vs. The Hardy Boys:
Great way to start off the show. I am sorry to hear about Mercury being let go, because matches like these prove why tag team wrestling is the best form of wrestling ever! This match was very fast paced, back and forth action and a lot of tagging in and out. Jeff Hardy is his usual self of unpredictable high flying moves, and yes Melina is still as hot as ever! In the end the Hardy Boys win. 8/10
ECW World Heavyweight Championship
Bobby Lashley [Champion] vs. Test:
I dont know if it was because these two fought three times in two weeks, but this match was just horrible. I never liked Test and Bobby Lashley is still a little too new to be made a champion. This is the match that many people left to go to the bathroom, including me. Bobby Lashley wins, big surprise. 5/10
World Heavyweight Championship
Batista [Champion] vs. Ken Kennedy:
I am glad Kennedy won the Money in the Bank ladder match and he will be champion sometime this year, but this match was just bad too, mostly because of Batista. The crowd was actually solidly behind Kennedy in this one, and Batista just pretty much got owned by Kennedy and his submission skills. Near the end Batista does a Hulk Hogan version of "Hulking Up" and gets the win for the cheap ending. 7/10
WWE Championship
Last Man Standing Match
John Cena [Champion] vs. Umaga:
Sigh, once again Cena remains champ. This match was actually pretty intense, a lot of weapon use such as chairs, steel steps, even the ring ropes as they were broken in the middle of the match! One sick spot saw Cena throw the steel steps out of the ring right into Umaga's face! Umaga then had Cena on the announce table and tried to do a running splash but Cena moved and Umaga put himself through the table. In the end Cena uses the ring ropes to literally strangle Umaga and got the win. 8.5/10
Royal Rumble Match:
Very good royal rumble for the 20th annual royal rumble. A lot of top names such as Undertaker, HBK, Chris Benoit, Rob Van Dam, and others were used. Some highlights include Kane chokeslamming Sabu out of the ring right through a table in a great spot! Others include many old rivals getting to faceoff against each other and of course it came down to HBK and Undertaker. Undertaker won even though the rumble was in HBK's hometown, still a great match. 9/10
Extras include the match where Rated RKO lose the tag team titles to Cena and Michales, as well as Kane congradulating Undertaker for his impressive win, some interesting stuff. This rumble is highly recommended.

WWE Backlash.......2007-07-05
1) JEFF & MATT HARDY VS. LANCE CADE & TREVOR MURDOCK (WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP)
THIS MATCH WAS JUST OK. IT WAS A GOOD START TO THE PPV THOUGH. THESE MEN HAVE WAY TOO MANY MATCHES TOGETHER. 6/10
2) MELINA VS. MICKIE JAMES (WWE WOMENS CHAMPIONSHIP)
OK MATCH. THATS ABOUT IT. 5/10
3) CHRIS BENOIT VS. MVP (U.S. CHAMPIONSHIP)
R.I.P. BENOIT!!!
SOLID MATCH. I DONT GET WHY THEY WAIT TIL JUDGMENT DAY TO GIVE MVP THE TITLE. 7/10
4) BOBBY LASHLEY VS. MR. MCMAHON, SHANE MCMAHON, AND UMAGA (ECW WORLD CHAMIONSHIP)
YOUVE GOT TO BE KIDING ME. THIS IS A RIDICULOUS MATCH! ECW JUST ISNT WHAT IT USED TO BE. 7/10
5) UNDERTAKER VS. BATISTA (LAST MAN STANDING MATCH FOR THE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP)
IN MY MIND THIS WAS THE MATCH OF THE NIGHT. I THOUGHT IT WAS AWESOME!
THESE MEN ARE SO EQUALLY MATCHED THAT THEY MAKE A GREAT MATCH. 10/10
6) EDGE VS. RANDY ORTON VS. SHAWN MICHAELS VS. JOHN CENA (FATAL FOUR WAY MATCH FOR THE WWE CHAMPIONSHIP)
THIS WAS ANOTHER GOOD MATCH. I DONT LIKE HOW NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES CENA HAS TO DEFEND HIS TITLE HE NEVER LOSES IT!!! SOONER OR LATER HE NEEDS TO LOSE IT. THE ENDING IS PRETTY COOL THOUGH. 9/10
OVERALL THIS PPV IS PRETTY GOOD. WORTH WATCHING.
An ALMOST Perfect Follow Up To WrestleMania 23.......2007-06-26
World Tag Team Champions Hardys vs. Lance Cade & Trevor Murdock - I assume this is WWE's attempt to bring some credibility back to their tag team division because this was one of the best tag team matches of the year right behind the various matches in the Hardys/MNM series. The match had it all you would expect in a good tag team match: double team moves, suspension for a tag team partner to finally make a tag after getting beat on for minutes, mat wrestling & highspots. Good & solid match to kick off the show but the one moment to look out for is Trevor Murdock's executing TNA wrestler Petey Williams' "Canadian Destroyer".
Womens Champion Melina vs. Mickie James - This was the match we were SHOULD have gotten at WrestleMania. It went around 9 minutes but both divas here brought their A game here with Melina using her legs various time for innovative wrestling moves such as a full nelson & both girls fighting back & forth while doing the splits.
Normally I don't comment on backstage promos but you gotta check out the one here for the interaction between Edge & "Mr. Money In The Bank" Mr. Kennedy teasing about cashing in the title shot.
United States Champion Chris Benoit vs. MVP - I think MVP has a twin brother or something because it's amazing how the guy who was fueding with Kane late last year is this guy putting on these performances. Their WM match was the "sleeper" match of the show where it wasn't heavily hyped but delievered. That was the same case here as they topped their WM match earlier & the storytelling about MVP avoiding the headbutt & focusing on Benoit's neck was also very impressive. As for Benoit...he's just Benoit & you can never go wrong there. Once again, the best pure wrestling match of the night.
ECW Champion Lashley vs. Mr. McMahon, Shane McMahon, Umaga - This match was designed for Lashley to fail & it did. Lashley tossed around Shane & Umaga for a while until the odds overcame him & Mr. McMahon got the cover for the win without really doing anything in the match. This went on for over 15 mins. & it was just a waste.
Last Man Standing: World Champion Undertaker vs. Batista - A great match with both men using their power moves against each other & each one also selling their injuries (Batista's leg & Taker's arm). Eventhough the finish of the match was a draw, don't let that take away from the effort of both men in this match that was an ideal followup to their WM encounter. Look out for Taker's legdrop onto Batista though the announce table because that looked sick!
WWE Champion John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Randy Orton vs. Edge - This four way match wasn't a big cluster like most of these type of matches are and everyone was able to leave still looking somewhat strong. Each man had a chance to get certain highlight spots in like HBK's moonsault at the beginning of the match and each man attempting their finishers in the end cancelling one or another out of the match with the story of Shawn Michaels once again having the title slip though his fingers.
DVD extras include an interviews with Mr. Kennedy & a promo by RVD about Mr. McMahon becoming ECW Champion.
Overall (with the exception of the ECW Title match), this had an overall better match quality than WrestleMania and each match was given enough time to tell a story & become something special instead of just being rushed though or becoming nothing more than a filler match. This is a PPV event that I highly recommend.
Backlash 2007 Review.......2007-06-09
Backlash 2007 was a great ppv.
The Hardyz vs Cade and Murdoch Tag Team Titles
A pretty good match. 7.5/10
Melina vs Mickie James Womens Title Match
This is one of the best womens title matches ive ever seen. 7/10
Chris Benoit vs MVP US Title Match
Good match not much to say about this. 7/10
Heres where this ppv gets very good.
Lashley vs The McMahons and Umaga Ecw Title Match
I liked this match a lot i think this is under-rated. 7.5/10
Undertaker vs Batista Last Man Standing World Heavyweight Championship
WOW! Amazing Match! 9/10
Cena vs Orton vs Edge vs HBK Four Way Fatal WWE Championship
Great match not as good as the last match but still a great match. 8.5/10
Overall Backlash is a great ppv with no bad matches but some of the matches could be better.
Last Years Was Better!!!.......2007-06-07
This PPV sucked, I was at last years in Lexington KY, first ever PPV I've been to and it was better then this years. I would never buy this dvd, unless it was like $4 at Wal-Mart like the big sell they had last fall.

1. The Hardy Boyz vs. Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch for the World Tag Team Titles- This was the right choice to kick off the show. There was a lot of fast pace action to start off the match. Than Cade and Murdoch slowed it down. Hardys got the win after a couple close near falls match better thought than expected but it was just to predictable on who was going to win. Winners and still World Tag Team Champs The Hardy Boyz. Match Rating 7/10.
2. Melina vs. Mickie James for the wwe womens title- This was one of the btters women's matches in a long time and this is the match that should have been on the wrestlemania card. This was given enough time at 10 minutes long. It was a little slow but it picked when Mickie hit a near fall off the hurricanrana. Melina got the clean pin which is cool cause you don't usually see that for the heels. Winner and still wwe womens champ Melina. Match Rating 6.5/10.
3. Chris Beniot vs. MVP for the wwe U.S. title- This was another very solid wrestling match. I saw there match on smackdown and it was better than there mania match but this one was about the same as mania. MVP worked on the leg of Chris Beniot a lot in this match but Beniot was able to fight back with lots of suplexs. MVP fought out of the crossface and the sharpshooter a few times. Mvp went for the leg of beniot but beniot rolled him up for the win. I think they should try a submission match at judgementday it would be great. Winner and still US Champ Chris Beniot. Match Rating 7.5/10.
4. Bobby Lashley vs. Umaga, Vince McMahon, Shane McMahon in a 1 on three handicap match for the ECW title- This was not a fun match to watch. In fact this was the worst match of the night. Usually in a McMahon match you get quite a few hardcore spots but not in this one. They worked on lashleys arm a lot but Lashley made a comeback but Umaga hit a big splash from the top rope tagged in Vince and he got the pin to become the new ECW champ. There was a nice ending to this match and that was to see a huge surprise as no one saw lashley losing this match. Winner and New ECW Champ Vince McMahon. Match Rating 3/10.
5. Undertaker vs. Batistia in a last man standing match for the WHT- This in my opinion was the match of the night. These two when they first met weren't even supposed to have that good of a match but they did and here they proved they could do it again. This match started off as a decent brawl but than the match broke to the outside and taker hit a sick shot to the head of batistia with steel steps that busted him wide open. There was a nice table spot were taker set batistia on the table and than hit a leg drop through a table. They continued to fight and both men took some sick shots to the head with chairs. Both men hit there finishers and they went on stage and batistia fought off the arms of taker and when he turned around he hit a spear off the stage to the satge below a sick spot. Winner No Contest Double Count Out. Match Rating 9/10.
6. John Cena vs. Shawn Michales vs. Randy Orton vs. Edge in a fatal four way match for the WWE Title- This was a good match but to me this did not live up to other triple threats or fatal four ways. The match started out with just some solid action with every man for himself. The match was just a big brawl and solid wrestling there was one spot were michales got hit with a chair shot to the back by edge. The best part of this match was the final 5 minutes with non stop action and the end came evrypne hit there finisher and micahles hit cena with sweet chin music but cena fell on orton and got the 3 count complete crap a horrible finish for the winner and cena wins again which sucks. Winner and still wwe champ John Cena. Match Rating 8.5/10.
Well that raps up another. I would give Backlash 2007 a grade of 41.5/60 which is a 69 % which means this is a good ppv. I would say it could almost go under awesome in fact I would put it in the awesome column everything except the McMahon match everything was good so I recommend you pick this one up. If you can tell me if my review was helpful or not I would appreciate that. Thanks for your time.

Customer Reviews:
With there extensive library it could have been much better........2006-12-24
This disk when I bought it looked cool. However there are alot of incomplete matches. Also no war games matches are in here. The four horsemen had some cool war games matches left out. The Bret Hart vs Owen Hart match at summerslam for the title was not even mentioned. Dave Meltzer gave the match 5 stars. It makes no sense to me to have these excluded. I ended up selling the disk. I would buy the TNA Best of the Bloodiest Brawls before this. WWE could have made this dwarf the tna disk, but they did not unfortunately.
Okay, but could've been better..........2006-08-01
I like the concept of this DVD set, as cage matches have always been a favorite for this old school fan. However, this is not as well-executed as it could've been. My main problem is a problem I have with 90% of the WWE DVD releases of this nature.
LITTLE TO NO COMPLETE MATCHES!
Practically every match is joined "in progress" or cut up so much you'd think Jason Voorhees was in charge of editing. That takes away a lot of the enjoyment for me.
Of course, the nostalgic value of most of this matches make this a fun selection to watch once or twice.
But that's about it.
GOOD BUT ONE PROBLEM.......2006-07-17
THIS IS A GREAT DVD ABOUT CAGE MATCHES. IT HAS A LOT OF VIOLENT MATCHES ON IT AND A LOT OF CLASSIC CAGE MATCHES. BUT THE REASON WHY I I AM GIVING THIS 4 STARS IS BECAUSE MOST OF THE MATCHES ON HERE ARE JIPS.(MATCHES JOINED IN PROGRESS.) IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IF ALL THE MATCHES WERE FULL. BUT ON DISC 2 IT HAS 7 FULL MATCHES BUT THAT IS STILL NO ENOUGH MATCHES. THIS DVD IS WORTH A BUY BUT REMEBER ONLY 7 MATCHES ARE FULL.
Its ok but is too random.......2006-02-06
(It is really random the selection they used as you hardly have a great cage match in every choice and for the millionth time that WWE lies to us, Snuka-Backlund was NOT 1980! It was June 28, 1982! The date they claim from 1980 was Backlund-Patera in a Texas Death Match. A company with that much money has no excuse for such a continous screw up! Snuka was not working for Vince Sr in 1980, he was in the NWA feuding with Ric Flair as part of Gene Anderson's stable!)

The Edge of the World.......2007-06-21
Based on the real-life exodus from St. Kilda, near Scotland, Powell's gripping melodrama was his first breakthrough before embarking on a fruitful life-long partnership with producer Emeric Pressburger. Combining documentary-like footage of ragged shorelines, craggy cliffs, and the rugged beauty of Foula (the film's actual location) with a simple story of economic hardship and romantic conflict, Powell concocted one of the most deeply personal and moving British films of the `30s. Sparse yet potent, "Edge" stands out for excellent performances--including John Laurie and Finlay Currie as the young lovers' squabbling patriarchs--and one thrilling sequence involving a treacherous foot race up Foula's forbiddingly steep cliffs.
Peter Manson Gone Over.......2006-01-31
It has been 10 years since The Shadow of Death fell on the outer isles of Scotland. This is the tale of Peter Manson, his family and the last days of inhabitance on the island called "Ultima Thule" The Edge of the World. You will come to identify with the inhabitance and their plight. But with all the triumphs and tragedies the worst for me was when they let the cats fend for themselves and the dogs (due to economics) drowned.
The filming was spectacular and there is a social statement. Many facets go into making this a first class movie. The film was shot by Michael Powell on the island of Foula in the North Sea. Michael Powell is the visiting yachtsman that hears the story.
Odd, but beautiful film.......2004-05-14
"The Edge of the World", directed by Michael Powell, is an odd little film. It's set in the 1930s on Hirta, a tiny remote Shetland island. Fishing trawlers are depleting the local cache of fish, and there are questions about the viability of continuing life on the island. Two young islanders disagree about the future of the island--Robbie believes that living on the island will soon become impossible, and Andrew believes that the island still offers a solid living. The two men, lifelong friends, decide to hold a race to decide their argument. The race ends in tragedy and a self-imposed exile.
This area of the world has always fascinated me, so when I discovered the existence of the film--combined with the fact that it was directed by Michael Powell, I had to track down a copy. "The Edge of The World" does a marvelous job of portraying island life--right before it disappeared. I was aware that life on the islands had to be harsh, but the film reveals the living conditions in some detail. The islanders' system for getting letters to the mainland has to be seen to be believed.
The cinematography is absolutely outstanding and lends itself to black and white--visually this is a beautiful film. The shots of the craggy rocks are stunning. The film was shot on location on the Shetland island of Foula. The story is a teensy bit corny, but it's not too over-the-top, and the romance plays second fiddle to the story of the island. "The Edge of the World" stands as a record for a way of life that is lost forever, and as such, the film is an amazing relic.
The sound quality was a little rough--especially in the beginning of the film. It was almost as through everything was recorded on a very windy day. The sound quality, however, evened out as the film progressed. If you enjoy this film, I recommend "I Know Where I'm Going." The DVD has some nice extra features--including 2 short extra pieces "A Letter from an Airman to his Mother", and "Return to the Edge of the World." The latter is a short documentary film--displacedhuman
Brilliant film, long unavailable..........2001-07-03
Stunning 1937 film set in the Shetland Islands, and filmed on the North Sea isle of Foula. Director Michael Powell has been called "the British John Ford", and you'll see why when you watch this film.
Based on a newspaper article the director once read, "The Edge of the World" is a heartbreaking documentary-style look at a phenomenon that really faced island-dwellers off the coast of Scotland in the 1930's and 40s.
On Hirta, the ficticious isolated coastal island, the fishing is becoming impossible thanks to the mainland trawlers and their huge nets. The peat the islanders harvest and sell for fuel is almost exhausted. The youth of the island are leaving in droves.
As a result, the islanders face a harsh choice; try to go on with their way of life, or give up everything and ask the government to relocate them on the mainland. There is bitter debate among the inhabitants, with part in favor of leaving, others wanting to fight on, and still more who are uncertain what to do.
While the acting may occasionally seem a bit overdone today, the real winner here is the outstanding photography done on location. Hills sweep up and end abruptly with sheer cliffs. The pounding sea sprays the rocks, and clouds sweep over the expanse of the island, leaving telling shadows on all below. There is also a truly heartstopping race as two men climb the sheer cliffs to decide questions between them.
This is an amazing and moving film that focuses on characters, with their odd beliefs, their customs, their culture threatened, and their whole way of life hanging in the balance.
After one viewing, you will never be able to leave this film behind. Truly an overlooked work, it is indespensible to the serious film buff and student.
Cheers to Milestone, who copied the film's recently restored 35mm print for this tape (and in SP mode, no less!). Until a Criterion DVD edition comes out, this is the best version you're likely to find of this wonderful film, and well worth the price.
The tape includes the twenty minute documentary "Return to the Edge of the World" in its entirety, as well as the Powell WW2 short subject, "An Airman's Letter to His Mother".

Description
On the bleak, storm-tossed southern tip of South America, a lonely lighthouse guards the world's most treacherous--and lucrative--shipping lane. But beyond the forces of nature, the lighthouse keepers must face an even more formidable foe, and soon the turbulent waters become the bloody battleground of two men who fight for control of the cruel Cape Horn and for the pleasures of a helpless, shipwrecked beauty. Kirk Douglas is Denton, the iron-willed lighthouse keeper who confronts the murderous pirate captain Kongre, played with delicious malevolence by Yul Brynner in one of his favorite roles. Samantha Eggar is Arabella, an English noblewoman imperiled by her beauty, desired by both men. The only hope to save the seas and their many travelers flickers in a single dim beacon, known to sailors as "The Light at the Edge of the World."
Customer Reviews:
Good Action!.......2007-02-21
I rate this dvd with four stars basically because it has no subtitles,no theatrical trailer, no bonus. But apart from that, the movie itself is full of action, adventure and the scenery is beautiful.
I had childhood nightmares for years afterwards...........2005-05-18
I somehow got dropped off at the theatre in 1971 as a 9 year old boy and saw this film, which gave me really vivid nightmares for years afterwards. Somday I'll see it again as a 40-something for therapy. That fat bald giant trying to kill that cute little monkey was too much. Parents beware!
A high seas adventure that needs more attention.UNDERRATED!!.......2004-08-16
I loved this movie as a kid.And still like it today.Although i do agree with a previous reviewer that it might not be suitable for kids. But i think a lot of adults who like an adventure with a great setting and excellent acting by the likes of Yul Brynner, Kirk Douglas, and Samantha Eggar will love this DVD.Its A little pricy but it does contain a fairly decent transfer to DVD with no apparent age defects, blemishes etc.And has quite a clear crisp picture on DVD.However there are no sepcial features. But highly entertaining and colourful nonetheless. With great performances.A worthwhile view, and for fans of Yul and Kirk.A gem for your DVD collection. Cheers!
Not for the kids!.......2002-05-18
The movie stars Kirk Douglas and is based on a book by Jules Verne, but parents expecting another 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA will be in for a surprise. It is very violent and includes things like torture and a gang-rape that are totally inappropriate for kids. Adults will find a well-acted but slow moving adventure story. The scenery is beautiful but the movie has a low budget look and feel. And the DVD has no bonus features, not even the theatrical trailer. Pricey for a DVD with no bells and whistles.
Very Entertaining.......2000-08-16
Highly enjoyable movie in which Kirk Douglas is a lighthouse keeper on an island at the tip of South America. Yul Brynner plays a blood thirsty Pirate who eventually hunts Kirk Douglas down at this deserted outpost. Very Entertaining tale in which finally, a pirate movie where they arnt all singing and dancing.

Description
The construction of Hadrian's Wall began in 122 AD, to separate the Romans from barbarians and was built under the direct orders of Emperor Hadrian. Hadrian's Wall took over a decade to complete and was built out of stone. The wall is over 73 miles long and marks the northern border of the Roman Province of Britain, running between the North Sea and the Irish Sea. This fascinating program provides a glimpse of military life during the Roman occupation. This program contains superb graphics and computer animation, detailed reconstructions, location footage of the Wall today, and insightful interpretation and analysis.
