After building up the duo's popularity through recordings and several performances on Saturday Night Live, John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd--as "legendary" Chicago blues brothers Jake and Elwood Blues--took their act to the big screen in this action-packed hit from 1980. As Jake and Elwood struggle to reunite their old band and save the Chicago orphanage where they were raised, they wreak enough good-natured havoc to attract the entire Cook County police force. The result is a big-budget stunt-fest on a scale rarely attempted before or since, including extended car chases that result in the wanton destruction of shopping malls and more police cars than you can count. Along the way there's plenty of music to punctuate the action, including performances by Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Cab Calloway, and James Brown that are guaranteed to knock you out. As played with deadpan wit by Belushi and Aykroyd, the Blues Brothers are "on a mission from God," and that gives them a kind of reckless glee that keeps the movie from losing its comedic appeal. Have you ever had one of those days where you feel tired and alittle bored and depressed? You need a pick-me-up. If that is you, then don't waste anytime. Pop this in your DVD player and start feeling happy. This movie is the purfect cure for a bad day. It makes you laugh hysterical. It is just plain fun. The comedy, the music, the romance, the ridiculous car chases. It's got everything for everybody. And it's done perfectly. Dan and John have fantastic chemistry together and there both remarkably funny. the whole cast is grade-A. How can you go wrong with Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, John Candy, Cab Calloway, and director John Landis? You can't. The music is so good, you can't help but dance alittle bit. It's way better then what they call music today. And how can I forget: the car chases. The car chases in this film are the best I have ever seen. THIS IS NOT EVEN A ACTION MOVIE! That shows you how great this movie is. It is wall to wall fun. It's gotta be the greatest musical ever. It's definetly in my top 5 for my favorite movies ever. Everytime I watch it, it makes me smile. They don't make 'em like this anymore.

My husband never saw this film. He enjoyed it but the CD had a problem with the voice being out of sync with the lip movement. Not a serious fault but it was annoying.

Janey (Parker), the new girl at a Catholic high school in Chicago, dreams of becoming a dancer on Dance TV. "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" is one of my all time favorite movies! I love it! This movie is definitely a "buyer." It includes all of the components of a perfect girl's teen oriented movie...friendship, rivalry, romance, dancing (competitive), and catchy songs. One of my other all time favorite movies is "Adventures in Babysitting" with Elisabeth Shue. I can watch both of these movies again and again.

The best Moment in the Film.......2007-02-16

I have spent the last 20 years searching the video rentals and store looking for this movie. Unfortunately, I could not remember the names of the people who starred in it. I could only remember the name and that there was a hot, beautiful young man(Lee Montgomery)in it. I was not even sure if he was still alive or in show business yet. I managed to find a DVD copy of it. Discovering that it was Sarah, Helen and Shannon who were starring in it. I have after watching it for awhile aside form the music and the dancing in it. I finally decide that the greatest moment is when nasty Natalie was told by her Father to "Why don't you just Shut-Up" which made her jaw drop. After all of the trouble she cause to Janey and Jeff.

This was a jumping off movie for the future "stars" of America.. . If you think Sara Jessica Parker is tooooo cute for words now, take a gander at her in this movie, she'll give you a cavity, also she's the the same size now and she was then, does she eat at all? Helen Hunt, just change the first letter of her last name and you'll see she was one in training even back then, and the cute as a button, pre-witch, Shannon D. is adorable in this, one of her first movie outings. As for the two guys, the cute one and the nerdy friend, I don't think I've seen either one of them in anything since this movie. Enjoy!

If you come across a better performance and production quality than this DVD, please let me know. After watching this DVD several times, I become paranoid that I may not be able to enjoy another DVD if it's not close to the caliber of this one. My 12-yr old son, who never sit still and finished a DVD before, let alone a "musical" DVD, watched this DVD 2 consecutive times, back to back. Amazing.

Oh, Wow! This is a cd that will be liked by all who enjoy M E H D I, John Tesh or even Kenny G. It is the very essence of good new age. So tranquil, yet so spirited, this cd is a refreshing break from my well-worn collection, I just keep wanting to listen to it over and over again. I am amazed! It reminds me somewhat of Bond, but still very unique. This is music to the soul. Absolutely relaxing, as well.

i have both live in central park and boulder CO, and by far central park is better. longer songs with more solo's by all members of the band. the only disappointing part is everyday and crash aren't on this but the other songs MORE than make up for it.

I did have the pleasure of attending this show, which was free for people in the Tri-State area. This show is DMB in top form. I have seen them several other times and while they always put on a great concert, this set had a unique energy about it. It also features a nice song selection that covers a broad spectrum of their catalogue. I highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan or to serve as an introduction to people who are not familiar. The 3 CD set is a nice companion, but edits a couple of songs. This DVD set includes every minute of this great show.

The good news is, yes, Jennifer Lopez can do comedy. In The Wedding Planner Lopez is Mary, a lovable woman who believes "those who can't do, teach. Those who can't wed, plan!" Her slapstick moments are lighthearted and she is spot-on as the controlling, compulsive-yet-sweet planner. The bad news is Lopez didn't get much of a vehicle in which to test drive her newfound comedic skills.

Mary's life is her career. Planning other people's weddings takes all of her time, leaving no room for a love life of her own. Her only personal life is a Scrabble club, to which she and her father (Alex Rocco, whose wandering Italian accent is painful to listen to) belong. When a handsome young doctor (Matthew McConaughey) saves her from a collision with a runaway dumpster (really, it works), she is instantly wooed by his quiet charm. Too bad he's the fiancé of Mary's biggest client, Fran (played winningly by Bridgette Wilson-Sampras), the job that will launch Mary as a partner in her firm.

The main problem with this film is that no one wants to hurt anyone else's feelings. Everyone is just so gosh-darn nice. In a subplot, Mary's father is trying to arrange her marriage to just the nicest Italian boy. Gee, he's sweet. Golly, Fran is nice. Is there ever a way out of this mess and to leave everyone smiling? Yet, there is a touch of old-fashioned romance to this wholesome film, which can only be described as "cute." And while things may unfold in a predictable manner, The Wedding Planner is still lighthearted fun of the sort that inspires dreamy romantic thoughts. --Jenny Brown

Fun to watch..........2007-01-26

As most of the Revolution Studios movies, "The Wedding Planner" is not a conventional one. You won't find the classic leading lady with the classic leading guy in the classic romantic-and-predictable-as-usual story. And this stereotype-melting effort is probably what catches our attention. To see couples or situations you normally don't see due to social stereotypes and conventionalisms it is certainly a rather interesting exercise. Having said that, "The Wedding Planner" is also really fun movie to watch. Most characters are great (except perhaps Lopez' italian admirer who is plainly lame). And my other serious complaint is: what's with Matthew McConaughey's hair in this movie? It looks so dry and frizzy and so artifically colored! I think they could have afforded to give the leading guy a more stylish look. On the other hand, passing J. Lo as a italian gal is not very believable (I mean). But on the up and up, J. Lo's wardrobe and hairstyling are remarkably beautiful in this movie giving her a tidy, neat and classy look very distant from her usual flamboyant bombshell persona. Overall a nice entertaining light and funny romantic movie to watch.

This is the movie where I began to love Matthew McConaughey, and where I began to see that Jennifer Lopez is not a bad actress (in this type of role).
Basically she meets him and they have a connection, and little does she know that she already knows his fiancee because she is planning their wedding.
It's a cute light-hearted romantic comedy and if you like that genre, you will love this. Yes there are corny lines and outrageous situations, but that is part of the fun. It's a great movie that all romantics will love.

Rodgers and Hammerstein's glorious score for South Pacific gets a surge of welcome new energy in this 2005 Carnegie Hall concert. Brian Stokes Mitchell (Kiss Me Kate, Ragtime) is in spectacular voice singing "Some Enchanted Evening" and "This Nearly Was Mine," but the real discovery is country star Reba McEntire as Nellie Forbush. McEntire won raves when she replaced Bernadette Peters in Annie Get Your Gun, but her performance was never recorded and released to the general public. Now we can understand the raves for ourselves, because McEntire is a joy in the role that features such standards as "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair" and "A Wonderful Guy." Those used to Mary Martin (which is nearly everybody) will need to get used to McEntire's scoops and twang, but it's not inappropriate for a character hailing from Little Rock, Arkansas.

Jason Danieley (The Full Monty) and Lillias White are both effective as Lieutenant Cable and Bloody Mary, respectively, and Alec Baldwin doesn't embarrass himself any more than he's supposed to as Billis. Because it's a concert performance, the singers carry books and don't wear costumes other than in "Honey Bun" (so the nurses jog in the surf and wash their hair wearing black gowns). But much of the story is conveyed through dialogue excerpts, so the 113-minute DVD is substantially longer than the 78-minute CD. --David Horiuchi

Reba is absolutely astonishing!.......2007-04-29

Reba definitely has a new calling in Broadway musicals! I didn't see her performance in "Annie, Get Your Gun," although I heard she was magnificient. In this special one night "South Pacific" debut seen on PBS at Carnegie Hall in 2006, the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical set in WWII, she absolutely knocks off your socks!

Not only is she stunning as Nellie the nurse, she makes you believe she really is that character. Her singing and acting are flawless and outstanding! I have the anniversary editon of the R&H musical classic of "South Pacific," which is great, but this version with Reba and Brain Stokes Mitchell is unbelievably even better! Even Alec Baldwin as "Luther Billis" does an outstanding performance, even with his one slip up that I and the audience certainly enjoyed. Certainly, Lilias White as "Bloody Mary" and Jason Danielly as "Joe Cable" have trememdous voices as well.

However, there is no scenery as the entire musical was done on stage with the Orchestra of St. Lukes, which in itself was simply outstanding. So if you liked the musical without scenery, you'll love this rendition with great performances by all the actors including the two wonderful kids!

This is a fantastic DVD - a powerful performance by all performers. Brian Stokes Mitchell has an incredible voice and is a great actor. His "This Nearly Was Mine" was awesome! Reba McEntire was fabulous. She made Nellie Forbush very believable. Her "Honey Bun" was especially great. Lillias White was all you could ask for as Bloody Mary. She has a powerful voice. I have singled out three of the preformers, but all the rest were just as impressive. The best way to appreciate this performance is to watch it many times...as I have done!!

Just caught this performance on PBS and it is superb:

-the "in concert" format with just a minimal amount of acting and costumes, and without the distraction of stage scenery or props, helps you focus on not only the quality of the performances but the historically set, yet timeless, nature of the music and lyrics of Rodgers & Hammerstein.

-You coudn't pick a better Nelly Forbush. Since Reba is restricted by the "in concert" format, she is not allowed to engage in a broadway stage performance like Mary Martin did. But the clear delivery and emotional strength of her singing gave me a deep, deep sense she eclipsed that historic performance in a single outing. Such marvelous broadway musical singing coming from a country singer...who woulda thunk it. I was also touched by what were real tears being shed by Reba at the end. Wow.

-Ditto for Brian Stokes Mitchell's deep, rich baritone as Emile. Like Reba, his voice outdoes the recorded performance of Enzo Pinza, something I didn't think was possible. As someone on IMDB said, his rendition of "This Nearly Was Mine" was so true you thought his heart was really broken by Nellie's rejection.

I first saw this show on a PBS TV show. It was so good that I had to find a copy of the DVD so I could watch again and again.

This is as good a production of "South Pacific" as you could hope to see and hear. The cast is just about perfect and everyone from the biggest star to the smallest cast member performs flawlessly. The orchestra is big and luscious and all the voices are strong and well cast. Reba McEntire is a delightfully spunky Nellie, Alec Baldwin genuinely funny as a big bruiser of a Billis, and Brian Stokes Mitchell brings just the right dignity to Emile and justly had the audience explode into applause at the end of a truly extraordinary rendition of "This Nearly Was Mine".
One would think that one would miss the scenery for a show such as this, but curiously enough I found this concert version with a minimum of props, and only suggested costuming works even better than the lavish film version, in that one's imagination is far more engaged.
I cannot recommend this performance and the surround sound DVD highly enough.

Watching this director's cut, it's finally possible to see why the studio made Spielberg mercilessly hack up this comedy: it's a screaming movie (everyone screams a lot), and screaming movies do not need character development. So all those character-development scenes hit the cutting-room floor and, surprise, they were all critical to Spielberg's pace for the humor in this film. The screaming wasn't that funny then--and it still isn't--but what is funny are the reinserted development scenes, showcasing the now-evident sense of hysteria in the Los Angeles community, post-Pearl Harbor. A bunch of certified nitwits, and a few certified lunatics, act as if Tojo Hideki's entire Imperial force is just off the mainland. Actually, one Japanese submarine is, and it helps fuel the frenzy. John Belushi is Wild Bill Kelso, an insane fighter pilot, and Dan Aykroyd plays a conciliatory tank commander. Robert Stack's performance as General Stilwell, one of the best of the film, finally makes sense. Also fun for the numerous cameos, Spielberg's inside jokes, and John Williams's great score. --Keith Simanton

Boring, Tedious and Unfunny.......2007-06-20

As with another user who wrote in a review, I found this in a discount bin at Wal-Mart. I'd always been aware of the movie, at least from a musical point of view, because John Williams recorded the march and "Swing! Swing! Swing!," his Benny Goodman pastiche, when he was with the Boston Pops Orchestra. (Both are wonderful pieces of music.) But I'd never seen the film. Now I wish I hadn't.

I'm sorry, but this thing misfires in almost every gag. There are some wonderful concepts here, and some hysterical situations (in both senses of the word). And some fine slapstick visuals. But the whole thing is so incredidbly heavy-handed and forced that whatever humor should have been there is crushed to death. In his comments in the bonus material for this DVD (taken quite obviously from a laser-disc version released many years ago), even Spielberg admits that the film should have been funnier. I'll see his bet and raise it: It should have been funny.

Laurel & Hardy could have done the destruction bit in far less time and on a shoestring budget and it would have been funny. The same thing happened a few years ago with a film called MOUSE HUNT, in which an entire mansion is destroyed. Again, L&H did it better in less time. Woody Allen, I believe, once said that any comedy over 90 minutes is doomed to failure. A "comedy" like this, running two hours and 20-some minutes, is sheer torture.

Slapstick and Destruction! Wow!!.......2007-06-07

I "discovered" this funny movie on theatrical cut VHS many years ago and laffed alot. The directors cut does not diminish the pace. The DVD re-issue of the old Laser Disc in widescreen is OK but Universal gave the public a non-anamorphic version for 16x9 televisions (BOO on Universal!!). This is a collectors version???? Phooey! The zoom setting on projection TVs mess with the period style photography so I watch it on the 4x3 and the picture is sharper despite the purposeful soft, foggy 60 years ago "look". Everyone in this production does a fine job, it's too bad the more positive reviews in Europe were not included.

Don't judge a movie by the names on the box..........2007-05-23

This was in the cheap bin at Wal-Mart, so I thought I'd give it a chance, seeing as how it 'featured' Dan Akroyd and John Belushi directed by Steven Spielberg. Towards the end of the movie, I found myself crying out for the pain to end. Most of the humor lies in the ridiculous slapstick category, which would make it a great children's movie if not for the constant sexual references (honestly, the funniest joke was the innuendo about the B-17). My only hope is that you see this review while trying to decide if you should purchase the DVD, and it makes you decide not to buy it. Epic Failure in the truest sense of the term.

My husband never saw this film. He enjoyed it but the CD had a problem with the voice being out of sync with the lip movement. Not a serious fault but it was annoying.

The ship is gorgeously designed, borrowing from the dark, organic look of Alien and adding the menacing touch of teeth sprouting from bulwark doors and clawlike spikes inexplicably shooting out of the engine room floor. Could've been great. .......2007-05-27

This movie had so much going for it, but it never really found its groove. So many elements necessary for a good sci-fi thriller were there but not put to good use.
Having said that, I still recommend checking it out. It's kind of a mess, but I can't deny the creep factor of this movie. It's dark and brooding and has a few good shocks.
As with everything else I've seen by Paul Anderson, something's missing. It's the body of a good movie absent a soul. Maybe one of these days he'll get it all together on one. I'll look forward to it.

Not worthy of the fifth star, as I found the editing to be confusing, with a 'limited budget' feel about it, with the acting not as expected from the known actors.

Event Horizon is a very good film spawned from a unique idea. The blend of sci-fi and horror borders on genius. It was equally original and terrifying. I like the idea of having a futuristic film involving space travel that doesnt involve a ridiculous story about aliens. Lawrence Fishburne is outstanding in this movie. I think it's a must have for any intelligent person who appreciates a movie that is outside the realm of typical American cinema. This film can be appreciated even if you dont like sci-fi or horror. It's that good.

This is probably one of the scariest movies of all time. Sam Neil at his best. You've got a great script mixed with awsome special effects. This movie is just all around pleasing, and I recommend it for any library.

This review will be used interchangeably for a few titles. Event horizon, The darkness (Anna Paquin), And Jeepers Creepers. These are all excellent in one way or another, have good production values and acting. Jeepers has the best movie monster creation of the last 20 years. And the darkness has a great story and a solid non happy ending. Event horizon has excellent acting by Sam neill and Laurence fishburn and a truly creepy story. The bottom line is you see reviews for movies like these and Wes Cravens They for example where many people give them 2 star ratings while going on and on about The grudge or the ring 2 or house of wax, Blair witch 2 and Ring around the rosie (one of the worst and most pointless movies Ive ever watched.) This just goes to prove once again that the average person refuses to think and doesnt want a movie that might require any thought to follow. Originality is punished by the masses because clever things make them feel dumb.

I first watched this movie when it came into theatres, and I actually talked my friends into watching this instead of another movie, which was a hit thriller.

The main reason why I chose this over the other movie was not because of the cast members. Though i admit that I admire the beautiful Miss Hilary Duff and Mr Chad michael Murray as many teenagers do out there(hey! I'm only sixteen myself!), I watched the movie because I was attracted by the story.

Cinderella is one of my favourite fairytales since I was a kid, and I am really glad that it's made into a comedy telling the story of a girl. A Cinderella Story illustrates many aspects of lives of teenagers; family, school, friends, part-time job... and it's shouting out to every teenager out there: never give up. Cling onto your dreams. Eventually, everything will be alright.

Fairytales are like dreams of every person out there, no matter you are a kid or you are an adult. Many say that they are like perfections that don't exist. Well maybe they don't. But if you really look and you really try to see, they are there, waiting for you to explore.

This is a great movie! About a girl named Samantha [people call her Sam]attending high-school.She has two mean step-sisers and a mean step-mother. Sam meets a boy through her cell-phone and they start chating.They don't know who they are talking to,so Sam calls him "nomad.'' She is really talking to Austin Ames,a populer boy in school.They talk through their cell-phones and computers.Then Austin askes Sam to go to the dance at the high-school with him.Sam's step-mother forbids her to go,but Sam, with the help of some friends,gets out of he house,and gets a lovely dress to wear.The party is a costume party,or a halloween party.Sam gets dressed like Cinderella,with a little white eye mask.Her and Austin dance the whole time,but Austin still dosen't know who she is.DON'T MISS HIS FILM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
